* CoveredUp: Music/SineadOConnor's cover of "Nothing Compares 2 U" is usually considered an original by her because The Family was such an obscure band.
* EndingFatigue: The Time's second and third albums eschew song endings in favour of repeating the backing track and adding not-funny SpokenWordInMusic. Their first album also seems like it was recorded without an edit button, but the jams slap hard enough that a good number of fans prefer that album.
* FetishRetardant: Most of Prince's early female associates embodied this trope with their attempts at being sexy with their {{Narm}}-filled lyrics and posturing. Wendy and Lisa (who ironically come off as the most wholesome out of the bunch) are the most notable exception to the rule.
* FirstInstallmentWins:
** Wendy & Lisa's self-titled debut, which arrived in 1987, hot off the heels of their departure from Prince.
** The Time's self-titled debut, from 1980. General fan consensus is that their albums got less musically satisfying and more gimmicky as time went on.
* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments:
** Apollonia 6's "Sex Shooter". It's so ridiculously literal you'd think it was a StealthParody.
** Morris Day and Jerome Benton of The Time are pretty funny guys, ya know. Remember the "password is what?" scene from ''Film/PurpleRain''?
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: Wendy and Lisa found plenty of success in Britain while going ignored in the US.
* HarsherInHindsight: "Donald Trump (Black Version)" by The Time. When it was released in 1990, it was received as a satire, as even then people were making fun of Trump's poor finances juxtaposed with his insistence that he was both wealthy and successful. As soon as the real Trump began his run for President of the United States in 2015, the satire of the song doesn't land.
* JustHereForGodzilla: One of Sheila E.'s main draws were her drum solos.
* MemeticMutation: Morris Day's catchphrases.
* {{Narm}}: All of the acts, to varying degrees. Prince was a pretty over-the-top guy, but all these little "hobbies" of his tended to get the short end of the charm stick and just came off as silly.
* NarmCharm: The Time were a rare exception, thanks to their charisma and Morris Day's excellent showmanship.
* OlderThanTheyThink: The Time's "Chocolate" and "My Summertime Thang" were originally written in 1983 before being released in 1990. "Chocolate" was released as-is, including uncredited performances by Wendy and Lisa.
%%* SophomoreSlump: Wendy and Lisa's album ''Fruit at the Bottom''.
