* {{Glurge}}: One of Wodehouse's frequent targets was the novelist -- particularly the woman novelist -- whose attempts to tug on the heartstrings are generally referred to by Wodehouse as "stearine bilge" or the like. Among many are Leila J. Pinckney in "Honeysuckle Cottage" (of whom one review consisted entirely of the words, "Oh, God!") and Bobbie Wickham's mother; but undoubtedly the pinnacle is Bingo Little's wife, Rosie M. Banks, whose romance ''Mervyn Keene, Clubman'' (related to Bertie by Madeline Bassett in ''The Mating Season'') is something of a Glurgic Apotheosis.
* HardToAdaptWork: Wodehouse's great genius is in describing people and events in his unique voice, leading to difficulty in turning his works into live-action productions. Also his dialogue, hilarious as it generally is, tends to sound forced and artificial when rendered by physical human beings.
* OnceOriginalNowCommon: In the early 1900s, Wodehouse's school stories were innovative in that they were actually stories aimed at schoolboys rather than badly-disguised religious propaganda. Seen from the present day, they don't really stand out from other school stories, and readers expecting the intricate language and comic plots of Wodehouse's later works will come away disappointed.
* ValuesDissonance:
** The plot of ''Literature/ThankYouJeeves'' is dominated by Wooster "blacking up" with boot polish, and the terrified reactions of various staff to the "nigger devil".
** In ''The Head of Kay's'', a popular tune of the day among the schoolboys is called "The Coon Band Contest".
