* ArchivePanic: In their first four years, Odd Future released more than 20 albums and mixtapes, along with numerous remixes, singles, and incomplete songs. This is not counting unofficial compilations (like ''The Lonny Breaux Collection'', chronicling Frank Ocean's early work) and even [[http://sibatmedia.wordpress.com/2011/03/01/the-odd-future-wolf-gang-bible/ more unreleased material that fans know exist]] [[http://www.oddfuturetalk.com/forums/topic/2938-the-jet-age-of-tomorrow-discography/ but don't actually have]]. One fan has apparently uncovered ''[[http://www.oddfuturetalk.com/forums/topic/2962-your-odd-future-libary/page__st__60 over 500 songs]].''
* AwardSnub: ''Absolutely nothing'' from Odd Future received any nominations at the 2014 Grammys, not even anything from Tyler's highly-acclaimed ''Wolf''.
** This is especially depressing when you consider that one of Tyler's biggest musical goals has been to eventually win a Grammy. Thankfully in 2019, he finally got one for ''Igor''.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Of all the work released by the collective, ''Bastard'' is among the most highly regarded.
** ''Earl'' has some of the best lines ever. And that was when he was ''sixteen.'' And ''then'' [[GrowingTheBeard he got back]] [[SerialEscalation from Samoa]]...
** ''Goblin'' also received a lot of praise, despite its status as a somewhat ContestedSequel.
** ''channel ORANGE'' seems to be riding a wave of acclaim, much like its predecessor ''nostalgia, ULTRA'' a year before. ''Blonde'' even moreso.
** ''Wolf'' has Tyler GrowingTheBeard in almost every department, and its acclaim is beginning to rival ''Bastard''.
*** Domo's verse on "Rusty" is widely agreed to be his best one yet, and even somewhat overshadows Tyler's and Earl's. ([[spoiler:If it weren't for the fact that Earl gets shot by Samuel half way through it.]])
** ''Cherry Bomb'' has also gotten notice for Tyler's sonic diversion and experimentation. When "Fucking Young" and "Deathcamp" were both dropped in the same video, the Internet was understandably hyped.
** ''Flower Boy'' is considered by some to be Tyler's best work since ''Bastard'', if not his best by far, thanks to its sound that echoes back to ''Wolf'' and easily the most hearfelt, sincere set of lyrics that Tyler has ever put on paper. And then he [[SerialEscalation catapulted that higher]] with ''IGOR'' and ''CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST''.
* ContestedSequel: Both ''Goblin'' and ''Wolf'' were this for Tyler, with opinions all over the place, though they are both still mostly critically well-received, and after the hype died down, Goblin is now held up by most odd future fans as more of a peak for Tyler rather than a let down.
** Though by now [[VindicatedByHistory some of the dust has settled]] and ''Wolf'' is generally agreed to be as good if not better than ''Bastard''.
* CrossesTheLineTwice: Multiple times in multiple songs, which side it ends up on is up to the listener.
** Domo slapping a woman in the "Rella" video hard enough to change her race from African-American to Asian.
** "I'm not an asshole, I just don't give a fuck a lot / The only time I do is when a bitch is screaming 'Tyler, stop'"
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Ever since [[AmbiguouslyBi Frank Ocean's]] coming out-letter and the acclaim ''channel ORANGE'' has obtained so far, he's on the fast track to becoming even bigger than Tyler.
** Taco gets ''a lot'' of publicity despite, in his own words, "(not doing) a damn thing."
** Earl as well is the only other member besides Frank that seems to be universally loved and acclaimed.
** In some sadly small portions of the fandom, Jet Age of Tomorrow and The Internet are well loved.
* FridgeBrilliance: Earl's rhyming and wordplay, especially post-Samoa, are often so complex and multi-layered that they seem like WordSaladLyrics at first, but they're not.
** Listening to Goblin after you listen to Lone makes total sense, as the last words from Lone were death threats, and the first from Goblin were Dr. TC telling Tyler he wouldn't kill anybody.
* GrowingTheBeard: Hodgy Beats. His lone solo album, ''The Dena Tape'', is a painful listen that isn't worth writing home about. His work with Left Brain under the name [=MellowHype=] really gave him a chance to grow as an artist and as of November 2010, he's starting to hold his own.
** Similar arguments can be made of some of the other rappers in the collective, though they weren't as visible as Hodgy has been. Casey Veggies also grew lyrically after his amicable departure from Odd Future.
** Jasper Dolphin, of all people. His earliest recordings are full of nervous giggling and the inability to make anything rhyme. On Tyler's album ''Goblin'', yeah, he's [[RhymingWithItself rhyming words with themselves]] a lot, but he can at least hold his own in some respects.
*** By the time his verse comes up on Oldie, he actually sounds like he tried really hard to make his 9 bar sound as good as he could make it. it shows that if he got really serious about rapping, he could be pretty fuckin' good.
** Earl Sweatshirt. He already had hype way back when he was Sly Tendencies solely for the quality of his wordplay, but compare ''Earl'' to the more recent "Chum" and you find an artist who has grown both musically and as a person. If he didn't grow the beard on ''Doris'', he definitely did with ''I Don't Like Shit, I Don't Go Outside'', which codified his lo-fi production style and introspective lyrics to even greater acclaim.
** One can also make a case for Tyler on ''Wolf'', especially in the department of production, and, similarly to Earl, his subject matter has also drifted away from {{Gorn}} and BlackComedyRape. Anyone who disagreed with that assertion was ''definitely'' won over with ''Flower Boy'' and its musical and lyrical maturity, as well as Tyler's personal growth.
*** Also, Hodgy's verse on "Jamba" is further evidence of his own improvement.
** Domo, on ''No Idols,'' his collaboration with producer The Alchemist. Even '''''Pitchfork Media''''' stated that Domo is growing into a gifted technical rapper after its release.
*** While some critics even felt mixed towards ''that,'' nobody disagreed that his verse on "Rusty" from Tyler's ''Wolf'' was definitely his best verse yet, and almost even overshadowed Tyler's and Earl's.
*** Even further is his work with Earl on ''Doris.'' His work is steadily growing and he is becoming a respectable rapper.
** Taco has vastly improved as a rapper. Compare his contributions in ''Tina'' and ''Swag Me Out'' to ''Real Bitch'' and ''Trashwang''. The difference is jarring. He could become a respectable rapper.
* HeartwarmingInHindsight: On the title track to ''Bastard'', Tyler expressed his wish to win a Grammy with his mom attending the ceremony. [[https://pitchfork.com/news/grammys-2020-tyler-the-creator-wins-first-grammy/ Come 2020]], he finally succeeded.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: Tyler accepting his [=VMA=], you can tell he never expected to win it.
** Their video for "Oldie." ''The entire group'' (or at least most of it) appears in the video, with all the members hanging out and playing around with each other. Everyone is obviously excited to be there, especially Tyler, who dances with Earl at one point and does a weird standing stage-dive at the end. The song itself could also count, especially the final verse -- it's Tyler rapping about starting Odd Future and how [[TrueCompanions it is his family]].
*** The dedication at the end of "Oldie" is also pretty heartwarming.
** The outpouring of good will for Frank in the wake of his coming out. Hip-hop and R&B took a big step forward.
* HilariousInHindsight: One line delivered by Tyler on Domo's album ''Rolling Papers'', is "Domo smoke, I heard your album sound like some shit a fake Wiz Khalifa papa wrote." Wiz would release his own album titled ''Rolling Papers'' only months later.
* HoYay: In "Domo23", Tyler kisses Lucas to prove that he isn't really homophobic.
* HypeBacklash: With them gaining insane amounts of popularity in just a few months, this was bound to happen.
** One can actually make the case that the career of a ''totally unaffiliated rapper''--Funk Volume founder Hopsin--was truly kicked off because of a not-entirely-serious diss toward Tyler in his song "Ill Mind 4", where he says ''Goblin'' sucks. Hopsin's popularity skyrocketed shortly thereafter. Though, if Tyler ever found out about the diss, he didn't respond on record in any way.
* ItsTheSameNowItSucks: A common complaint from music reviewers about ''The OF Tape Vol. 2'' and some of the members' 2012 mixtapes and [=EPs=].
* MemeticMutation: Swag!
** '''WOLF GANG, GOLF WANG, FLOG GNAW'''
** Free Earl!
** Bumpin' Oldies on my cellular phone!!
** "I WISH ODDFUTURETALK FANS WOULD JUST....GIVE IT UP...GIVE UP ON ME...GIVE UP ON LIFE. I'VE HATED THE LOSERS ON OUR FORUMS SINCE DAY 1...BUY MY ALBUM GOLD WHEN IT DROPS" - KING MIKE[[labelnote:explanation]]Mike G is not fond of semi-official fansite OddFutureTalk.com and tweeted his displeasure. The phrase is now used on the site's forums whenever something particularly stupid happens, which is often.[[/labelnote]]
** "EY YO IT'S JASPER, NOT EVEN A RAPPER"[[labelnote:explanation]]said site also has a "vanity house" subforum where members can post their own music. It's often not very good.[[/labelnote]]
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4Uw3m_dPpw "So that was a fucking lie."]][[labelnote:explanation]]A quote from Tyler in an interview that has become a common reaction image to lies.[[/labelnote]]
** [[https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/tyler-the-creator-mugshot A mugshot of Tyler with a bizarre expression]] following a 2014 arrest has become a popular photoshop meme on Instagram and Reddit communities.
** "[[https://twitter.com/tylerthecreator/status/285670822264307712 Hahahahahahahaha How The Fuck Is Cyber Bullying Real Hahahaha Nigga Just Walk Away From The Screen Like Nigga Close Your Eyes Haha]]"[[labelnote:explanation]]A tweet from Tyler about cyberbullying that rapidly became a popular copypasta on the Internet.[[/labelnote]]
* MisaimedFandom: ''Hooo boy...''
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome: Tyler winning the Best New Artist [=VMA=].
** [[HesBack "Aaaand I'mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmback...]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2nKDkSBepk Bye."]]
* NightmareFuel: [[NightmareFuel/{{OFWGKTA}} See here.]], as well as [[NightmareFuel/TylerTheCreator Tyler's own page]].
** The end of the ''She'' video, which features the most terrifying moment of BreakingTheFourthWall ever to be put on screen.
** The whole damn "Yonkers" music video, which shows Tyler, The Creator [[NauseaFuel eating a cockroach and vomitiing.]] [[spoiler: And that's before we see him hang himself...]]
** Tyler's verse on Window... [[spoiler: and the murder of Frank, Domo, Mike G, and Hodgy afterwards...]]
* ParanoiaFuel: "She", which is from the perspective of a StalkerWithACrush. Doesn't help that Frank's hook makes the stalker's act extremely catchy.
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: ''Wolf'' is shaping up to be this for Tyler, along with the other members GrowingTheBeard on their appearances on it, Earl GrowingTheBeard even more and releasing new material in 2013, and Frank Ocean's explosion of acclaim following ''Channel Orange'', the whole group is seeming to do this over the course of 2013.
* SignatureScene: Tyler eating the cockroach in the video for "Yonkers" was both his and the whole group's EstablishingCharacterMoment.
* SignatureSong: "Yonkers" for Tyler, "Thinkin' Bout You" for Frank Ocean, "Bitch Suck Dick" for Jasper and Taco, "Oldie" for the group as a whole, and "Earl" for Earl.
* SignatureStyle: Tyler is known to make heavy use of [[StylisticSuck deliberately cheap-sounding synthesizers and clunky beats,]] mixed with frequent, catchy uses of jazz chords and progressions, {{Minimalism}}, and elements of R&B and 90's HipHop in his production. Left Brain's production is often similar but DarkerAndEdgier and without the smooth jazz and R&B influences, but often more experimental.
* SoBadItsGood: Tyler, Jasper, Taco, Lionel, and Domo are absolute geniuses when it comes to invoking this.
** Left Brain's verse on "Swag Me Out"
** ''Loiter Squad''
*** On ''Loiter Squad,'' most of the cast employ BadBadActing. In Mike G's case, it's ''[[DullSurprise Bad]] BadBadActing''. However, [[TheStoner his]] [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} personality]] just makes it even funnier, [[StraightMan especially since he's such a laid back guy]] in a group of {{Large Ham}}s.
** The beat to "Transylvania"
** I Smell Panties
* SoOkayItsAverage: Some of the members' technical skills often get this criticism from some Rap fans. One of the things that makes them TheScrappy to a lot of communities is their perceived [[ItsTheSameNowItSucks lack of progression]], though even on this very page, several of their members are listed under GrowingTheBeard trope. Their reputation as such seems to be fading as each member grows, though.
* SpiritualSuccessor: Dare we say to Music/GeorgeClinton's P-Funk universe? They're similar in structure, wackiness and wordplay, only the old-school funk has been switched out for edgy hip-hop. And while there's not many crazy costumes on stage, they're all over many of their music videos.
* SurprisinglyImprovedSequel: ''Wolf'' is reaching the same levels of acclaim as Tyler's debut, after the more lukewarm and divisive reception of ''Goblin''.
** Then there's ''Scum Fuck Flower Boy'', which has quickly garnered a reputation as not only (arguably) Tyler's best album to date, but also came as a shock to many fans and skeptics with just how ''good'' it is, being one of the most acclaimed albums of 2017 so far.
* {{Squick}}: Besides nearly all of Earl's and Tyler's lyrics before 2012, there's Lucas eating a melting ice cream cone and smashing it everywhere in Earl's "Woah" and Tyler infamously eating a cockroach and vomiting in the video for "Yonkers"
* SugarWiki/SweetDreamsFuel: Quite a lot of ''Blond'', most notably "Nikes", "Pink + White", and "Seigfried". The latter is also an enormous TearJerker.
* {{Wangst}}: Some have accused Tyler out on this.
