* BaseBreakingCharacter: Shady. One side finds her pessimism and timidness funny and endearing, while others view her as annoying.
* EndingFatigue: ''End of Flutter Valley'' is ''ten episodes'' long and can drag out.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Surprise alongside the ''Friendship Is Magic'' crowd, having a similarly-colored pony among the Wonderbolts.
* EvilIsCool: Grogar is a very popular villain of this series, with many considering him second only to Tirac of ''Rescue at Midnight Castle''. [[spoiler: Many were disappointed that he never really appeared in ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic''.]]
%%** Wind Whistler and Fizzy.
* FanNickname: "The Rocklings" for the living boulders that serve as Crunch’s mooks.
* FanPreferredCouple: Wind Whistler and Fizzy have always been pretty popular.
* GeniusBonus:
** In "The Great Rainbow Caper", Danny and Surprise get kidnapped by [[MadScientist the Gizmonks]], and proceed to destroy their lab from the inside. When they escape from it, they do so by getting inside a giant wooden horse. [[TrojanHorse Sounds familiar]]?
** A more subtle example from "Mish Mash Melee" where small, pastel-coloured "droplet" creatures known as the Frazzits are scrambling the minds of the dell dwellers (and the episode's main ponies Wind Whistler, Fizzy, Gusty and Shady). Fizzy receives Wind Whistler's intellect due to the effects of the Frazzits' scrambling, while Wind Whistler becomes as much of a goofball as Fizzy normally is. While Fizzy is ordering Wind Whistler to take action, she refers to the Frazzits as "protoplastic". A "protoplastic organism" (the literal words used by Fizzy) is a plant, fungal, bacterial or archaean cell which has lost its cell wall. The cell wall keeps cells rigid and prevents them from falling apart. As the Frazzits transform people's minds into their opposites, guess how the Frazzits affect the dell dwellers? They transform them from diligent workers into goofball with no sense of responsibility -- they are no longer "rigid" and their community is falling apart due to the Frazzits.
* GrowingTheBeard: Many fans view the first four serials as of debatable quality. The show, however, finds its footing at "The Return of Tambelon".
* HarsherInHindsight: The episode "Bright Lights" features a pop star who is an homage to Michael Jackson, and his manager steals fillies' shadows as AppliedPhlebotinum. Several years after the episode was produced, Michael Jackson himself began to face accusations of taking indecent liberties with children.
* HilariousInHindsight: [[HilariousInHindsight/MyLittlePony See here]].
%%* {{Moe}}: Molly, Fizzy, Sweet Stuff.
* InformedWrongness: In "Fugitive Flowers", the mean-looking Crabnasties chase the innocent-looking Flories, and when it turns out the Crabnasties are legit law enforcement and the Flories are not so innocent, we get a lesson about not judging based on appearance. EXCEPT... the Crabnasties were destroying everything in sight in their search, refused to explain themselves in any kind of detail when the ponies asked them what they were doing, and nobody is making them use [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast that name]]. The ponies had every reason to think they were the bad guys at first. Nobody ever sees fit to mention that.
* MemeticMutation: An image from "The Magic Coins" of Megan crying while surrounded by flames with the subtitle "Welcome to Hell, Megan" is somewhat popular amongst the brony community.
* MoralEventHorizon:
** The Raptorians cross it by convincing Porcina to turn Ponyland to glass with everyone in it for their own selfish reasons.
** Lavan is told that his plans for the Princess Ponies' wands might destroy all of Ponyland by throwing things into utter chaos (which is exactly what happens). He doesn't ''give a darn'' and goes ahead with his plans anyway, putting everything in danger out of his own greed. If that's not the point where he crossed the line, it's most likely when he tried to kill the Princess Ponies and their group by having them ''thrown into lava'', primarily for spite.
* SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound: The noise the ponies' hooves make when they walk.
* NarmCharm: The cartoon's shoddy animation, amusing goofs, some silly voices, and occasional broken aesops all make the show a hilarious watch. But the setting, creepy villains, and some downright [[BewareTheNiceOnes badass moments courtesy of the ponies]] makes the show awesome when it isn't silly.
%%* OneSceneWonder: In "Mish Mash Melee", we get a personality-swapped Wind Whistler and Fizzy for a few glorious minutes.
* PeripheryDemographic: Yes, even before ''Friendship Is Magic'' made it cool, there were male fans of this show. For many boys in the 80s and 90s, this was their first fantasy adventure cartoon.
* RetroactiveRecognition: Creator/ScottMenville stars in this show as Danny in one of his first voice-acting roles.
%%* TheScrappy: Most fans loathe Molly and Danny, as they felt they were unnecessary and couldn't do anything that Megan couldn't. [[BaseBreakingCharacter Danny less so, as he was a male main character in a female-dominated show]]. Shady and Baby Lickety Split can also fall into this, the former for her negativity and the latter for being a brat.
* VindicatedByHistory: ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' helped pull this series out of obscurity.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Some people who don't mind the babies wish that they interacted more with their mothers. The only ones who actually acknowledged they have babies are Heart Throb, Lofty, and Ribbon, and the two pegasi only interacted with them in Bright Lights. In the My Little Pony Movie, Lickety Split wasn't even present to realize her daughter was missing.
* {{Wangst}}: If you didn't feel that Shady's insecurities were warranted, then you saw her this way.
%%* TheWoobie: Shady
