* AudienceAlienatingPremise: This is probably why the anime adaptation flopped so miserably, at least in Japan (in the US, it's a borderline CultClassic). The crude, childish nature of the show put off otakus, while the otaku-targeted advertising and merchandise scared off most other potential audiences (and made some believe it was a lolicon show). The second season bombed so badly in terms of ratings and DVD sales that it was cut down to eight episodes before it even finished airing. The manga didn't have this problem, since it managed to be serialized for eleven years.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: The openings to both seasons are incredibly catchy and cool-sounding, especially that of season two.
* CreatorsPet: Matsuoka is revealed to be this. In fact, she has started appearing more in the manga due to it.
* DesignatedHero: InUniverse. In the broadcast episode of Gachiranger, the heroes act amoral and moronic, and do get called out on it.
* FanPreferredCouple: If Pixiv is any indication, Hitoha/Yabe is the most popular pairing, followed by Mitsuba/Miku and Futaba/Satou.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: The anime flopped horribly in Japan, to the point that the second season was cut down to only eight episodes due to low sales. Despite this, it still managed to gain a small following in the US.
* HollywoodPudgy: Yet another of Mitsuba's issues is her weight. While it's shown that she really does have some little rolls of fat, which she is frequently shown squeezing in frustration, she is still far from overweight especially for someone her age.
* Moe: Alternately played straight and subverted.
** Hitoha when she caught a cold.
* NauseaFuel: The manga and anime frequently indulges in scatological humor. One early chapter has the CuteClumsyGirl school nurse handle a bag of urine samples. They get absolutely everywhere and she accidentally pours one into her coffee and mistakes it for eyedrops.
* NoYay: Middle-aged mother and ComedicLolicon Marina Sugisaki aggressively pursues Mitsuba, a bratty 12-year-old classmate of her daughter, because she thinks Mitsuba has the perfect personality to fulfill her sexual desire for domination and humiliation. The first time they meet, Marina corners Mitsuba and refuses to let her go until she gets a blast of Mitsuba's caustic condescension, despite Mitsuba visibly freaking out. As Marina's children get into an unrelated argument over one trying to turn the other into a slave, Mitsuba screams at her for being a terrible mother who raised a family full of perverts. Marina falls to her knees with an orgasmic moan while her anguished daughter whines that Marina isn't disputing it. Mitsuba storms off in disgust.
* ToyShip:
** Futaba and Shinya.
** Miku and Mitsuba.
* UglyCute: The art style.
