* AccidentalInnuendo: One of the women who works in Ramus' store has this to say to Alex:
-->"I hope my service is good enough to make you come again and again!"
* AntiClimaxBoss: Xenobia in the original game. While not that hard in ''Silver Star Complete'', she's still a joke for a how much a threat the plot makes her out to be, [[spoiler:especially with her beating Laike off-screen]].
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic:
** The music composed by Noriyuki Iwadare
** Whichever version you prefer, it's hard to deny the game's intro song "Wings" is a fantastic song. Setting the mood for the game and story.
** The original Sega CD intro song "Fighting through the Darkness" is also great.
* BrokenBase: Small one going on between the [[{{Woolseyism}} Woolseyized]] versions of the songs from ''Silver Star Story Complete'' and the more faithful retranslated versions from ''Silver Star Harmony''. The comment section for just about every video of the songs posted on youtube tends to degenerate into a debate between purists and fans of Woolseyism at some point.
* CaptainObviousReveal:
** The game doesn't even ''try'' to make Luna's real origins a secret. This hits a whole new level with the PSP version's entirely new prologue scene that highlighted the Four Heroes and Althena stopping the previous world-threatening entity [[spoiler: where Althena strongly hints towards a HeroicSacrifice that ultimately causes her reincarnation, sings ''the exact same song'' that Luna does ten minutes later, and Ghaleon is even given a damn TraitorShot in finishing off Eiphel just to foreshadow his BigBad role]]; meanwhile every other version of the game just skips to Alex at Dyne's memorial and leave the player to discover these reveals far, far, ''far'' later.
** Most gamers figure out that Nall is a dragon ''long'' before it's actually revealed. In fact many online character guides, including the one here on TV Tropes, don't bother hiding it. And for people who haven't played the game yet, it's practically a case of ItWasHisSled.
* CultClassic: While the game never garnered the mainstream success of the ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'' or ''VideoGame/DragonQuest'' series, it still sold a respectable number of copies in the United States[[note]]Around 300,000 for the Playstation remake[[/note]] and is, to this day, a favorite among [=JRPG=] enthusiasts.
* EvilIsCool: Ghaleon.
* GameBreaker:
** Alex was a MasterOfAll in the original ''Lunar: The Silver Star''. By the end of the game, he will have the highest HP, MP, physical damage, magic damage, defense, and is a decent healer.
** White Dragon Protect in the remakes is pretty costly to cast, but defends each party member from one attack. In ''Silver Star Harmony'', Mia's LimitBreak is even worse as it protects each member from multiple attacks, not just one.
*** The final boss ''viciously'' punishes you if you get complacent with Mist Barrier, though. Use it, and he uses an attack called Blast Loci on the last turn it's active. What does it do? It makes the next spell he cast change into one that does 1,200 HP of damage. For comparison, Kyle's HP at the level cap (the highest in the game) is 276. There is no way not to die from this, unless the player knows it's coming and casts White Dragon Protect.
** In ''Complete'' and ''Harmony'', Nash's ultimate weapon, the Starlight Bow, can inflict instant death. You can also get an accessory called Ghaleon's/Fiend's Tear that makes the user's normal attacks hit all enemies (at the cost of reducing their Attack# to 1). Slap both of these on Nash (who almost always acts first in battles and won't get more than one Attack# except at extremely high levels anyway) and he can open every round of combat against normal encounters by wiping out up to half the enemy team with absolutely no costs or drawbacks. The only downside is that you can really only do this in the final dungeon, since that's where the Starlight Bow is obtained.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: The scene where Alex gets Luna to come along when sailing to Meribia in the remake, especially if you know that Luna stays behind in the original Sega CD version.
--> '' Luna! All the exciting adventures in the world mean nothing if you're not with us. This isn't just my adventure, Luna, It's ours!''
** After Alex becomes a dragonmaster, talk to Alex's parents. They'll tell you all about when Alex first met Luna and Nall when they were babies. They even remark that Alex and Luna were like twins in that they had the exact same smile. [[CuteKitten And just try to imagine a baby Nall]].
* GameplayDerailment: ''Lunar Legend'' doesn't bother to remember what your HP and MP are when you quit the game. So you can just save and reset for free full healing anywhere.
* MagnificentBastard: [[BigBad Magic Emperor Ghaleon]] was once one of the four great heroes who becomes disillusioned with the world after the supposed death of his best friend Dyne. Ghaleon decides the world cannot function without gods, feeling betrayed by the goddess Altena's decision to be reborn as a mortal and seeks to either supplant her or force her to resume her role. Ghaleon manipulates the heroes into assisting him in his goals, capturing four great dragons to harness their energy to pull his plans off. Ghaleon remains one step ahead of everyone, even capturing Altena's human form Luna and [[NearVillainVictory almost succeeds in his ultimate goal]]. In ''Lunar 2: Eternal Blue'', Ghaleon is revived, seemingly as a minion of the God of Destruction Zophar, but having grown repentant for his actions, Ghaleon instead works against Zophar and assists the heroes, becoming a StealthMentor to the young warrior Hiro before peacefully passing into the afterlife once he tests Hiro's strength enough.
* MemeticMutation: The internet-famous "Shii's Song" is a pitch-shifted version of "Wind's Nocturne." Likewise, "Longcat's Song" is a SpeedyTechnoRemix ''and'' pitch-shifted version of "Wind's Nocturne."
* SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound:
** Any time Luna sings. Even her simple “lalalala” has a soothing feel to it.
** The music from Alex’s ocarina. [[spoiler: Becomes valuable in the climax of the [=PS1=] version of the game as you must play it for Luna.]]
** The Level-Up sounds each time a character levels up. The Victory Music also counts.
** The music that plays each time Alex acquires pieces of the Dragon Master armor.
* {{Narm}}:
** The entire ActionPrologue for ''Silver Star Harmony'' is such an unabashed ClicheStorm that lays out ''all of the major twists of the game'' that veteran fans can't help but be baffled by its inclusion. The fact that every other JRPG in the span of 1992 to 2005 managed to shift the genre enough that each of the Four Heroes' personalities and attributes were only contributing to the immense anime cheese of the sequence doesn't help.
** [[https://clips.twitch.tv/SnappyFrozenTofuUWot-Q55kS3I43lLJnE6c This moment]] shortly after Alex and co. meet Tempest and Fresca, and are informed that a friend of their's was abducted. Nall informs them that Alex's friend Luna was abducted too, but the game developers had Nall say this with his happy/excited expression, as opposed to his sad look which would have been more appropriate. It makes it seem like he's excited that they share something in common with Tempest and Fresca.
** In the scene that reveals Nash's status as a mole, and uses his magic to destroy the air ship, his battle line "Check this out!" plays, which sounds out of place for a scene meant to be shocking and serious.
* NightmareFuel: When Alex's party first encounter Luna after she's long been abducted, and is being mind-controlled, she is presented with very pale eyes, and she has a very unnatural stare, and a very blank expression which looks rather unsettling.
* OlderThanTheyThink: Many thought Alex playing the ocarina instead of the harp in the remake was [[FollowTheLeader trying to cash in on]] ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime''. In actuality, Silver Star Story came out in Japan two years before Ocarina of Time, [[ScheduleSlip it just took a very long time to make it to the states]]. The Ocarina was more likely inspired by the Ocarina of Hope in ''VideoGame/EarthboundBeginnings'' which was also popular in Japan (and indeed, likely inspired Ocarina of Time too). And for those who are unaware of the Sega CD games at all, the song "Thoughts Far Away" actually first appeared in the Sega CD version of ''VideoGame/LunarEternalBlue''.
* OnceOriginalNowCommon: The story and its twists also aren't helped by the industry shifting. Back in 1992 or '98, [[spoiler:Ghaleon]] being the evil BigBad was a big twist, and it was novel for the time because gaming just wasn't used to seeing such a thing. If you looked at that reveal nowadays, [[spoiler:Ghaleon]] is so ObviouslyEvil ''because'' his very physical attributes became a common standard for villains to use, even having tropes on this very site, that PopCultureOsmosis doesn't even have to [[ItWasHisSled reveal the twist]]; the average player will see it from a mile away.
* PolishedPort: While the localisation of the PSP version is controversial, the PSP version includes enhancements such as widescreen support, quality-of-life features, and an all-new exclusive prologue. Some changes may stray too far from the [=PS1=] and Saturn versions, but it is still an interesting experience.
** The iOS version is more similar to the [=PS1=] and Saturn versions, but it has multiple enhancements not seen in other versions. These include improved rendering (being just as, if not better than the Saturn version), widescreen support for non-iPad devices (iPads instead get the original 4:3 presentation as the screens are in 4:3), cloud saves, better quality cutscenes than even the PC port, dual-audio (Japanese or the PSP version's English dub), and multiple soundtracks (either the Saturn or PSP soundtracks). The only flaw is that some PSP features were not brought over, and that the original Working Designs translation is not available as an option due to ExecutiveMeddling. And the port is also playable on Apple TV and Silicon Mac devices.
* PortingDisaster: The [[UsefulNotes/GameBoyAdvance GBA]] version, ''Lunar Legend'', is absurdly bug-ridden. One wonders [[ObviousBeta if there was any playtesting done at all]].
** While not an absolute disaster, the [=PS1=] version has some visual downgrades compared to the [[NoExportForYou Japan-only]] Sega Saturn version.
** The [[NoExportForYou Asia-only]] PC port has the best-quality cutscenes (until the release of the PSP and iOS versions), but it is a bug-riddled port with even more visual downgrades than the [=PS1=] version and worse audio.
* RetroactiveRecognition: Alex's English voice actor in ''The Silver Star'' and ''Silver Star Story Complete'' is Ashley Parker Angel, who would later become a member of the boy band O-Town.
* SequelDifficultyDrop: Harmony is significantly easier the previous versions of the game, due to rebalanced stats for the characters and enemies, the presence of Limit Breaks, and characters receiving a free full heal every time they level up.
* StrawmanHasAPoint: [[spoiler:Ghaleon]]'s belief in the ''Complete'' and ''Harmony'' versions, that [[spoiler:humanity ''needs'' a god for protection, and cannot look after itself]], turns out to have been extremely well-founded considering the events of ''VideoGame/LunarEternalBlue''.
** Except that the Power of Humanity totally wins the day in ''Eternal Blue'', while [[spoiler:if divine power had been used, it would have destroyed the world.]]
*** Which is likely the reason for his HeelFaceTurn in the intervening time-span. He realizes Althena may have been right about humanity after all. Though [[spoiler: It was Althena's absence in the first place that allowed Zophar to corrupt Althena's chosen and allow a pretender (Fake Althena) to assume her identity]], so he might still have some point.
* ThatOneAttack: Huge Keeper in ''Harmony'', an attack used only by the final boss, deals a ''minimum'' of 1200 damage to the entire party. None of the playable characters even break ''300'' maximum HP. The boss telegraphs it with the spell Blast Loci, so you ''have'' to use Mist Barrier or White Dragon Protect on the next turn. If you ever ''do'' use Mist Barrier, though, the boss ''always'' casts Blast Loci on the last turn it's active; if Alex doesn't have enough MP for White Dragon Protect, sucks to be you.
* ThatOneBoss: Royce, in ''Silver Star Story''/''Harmony'', aside from Ghaleon, is likely to be the hardest part of the final dungeon. She curses your party when you enter the dungeon, making you start every battle with two random characters asleep. Sleeping characters take double damage from attacks, and thus tend to almost instantly die in every battle. The curse doesn't end until you defeat her, and she's all the way at the end of a rather long dungeon. It's entirely possible that your main damage dealing character (Alex), and healer (Jessica) will be asleep at the beginning of the fight with her, get instantly killed, and then she'll immobilize your other characters for several turns while she kills them.
** One trick that simplifies this: By this point, you should have a Fresh Ring (cancels Sleep) and the Tri-Ring (cancels all status effects). Give them to Alex and Jessica, and you're basically insured from getting screwed over.
** The Black Dragon can be quite challenging. Especially since the battle occurs fairly late in the game, and all previous boss battles have been quite easy. The only method of healing via magic is Blue Dragon Healing, but Alex is your main damage dealer and the spell costs an arm and a leg, necessitating items. It can be a struggle to keep everyone at full health one healing item at a time, all while trying to find a free turn to whittle down its generous HP. The black dragon always attacks twice in a row. ''Usually'' its first turn is a non-damaging Blowback, and the second turn is a powerful spell that hits all characters, but not always. It will also just attack two times in a row, leaving everyone critical and one or two characters dead, most likely. And it will frequently get its turn before the characters, which means if its turn came up last the previous round, and first this round, you could be facing four powerful all-character-hitting spells in a row, and certain death. You better hope that's not the case, as there was a fairly lengthy scene before the battle...
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Half of the fanbase attitude towards ''Lunar Legend''. The one for the PSP even more so thanks to there being a bunch of changed and/or new additions. People have gone so far as to judge the game by its demo ''alone.'' Others denounced the game the very moment they learned Creator/WorkingDesigns (or rather its members) weren't involved in the localisation. Especially nonsensical in ''Silver Star Harmony'''s case, considering Creator/{{XSEED|Games}} used Working Designs's script with a few alterations.
** Was also the case to some degree with the PSX version since it changed several important plot points from the original [[UsefulNotes/SegaGenesis Sega CD]].
** Some of the changes in voice actors were hotly debated. The most controversial seem to be Nall (voiced by a girl with a digitally-altered voice in the PSX version, changed to a high-pitched but distinctly male voice in the PSP version), Mel (given a Scottish accent in the PSP version), and the Magic Emperor (was a [[LargeHam ham the size of a small planet]] in the PSX version, while the new version gave him a deeper, more menacing voice).
** Also, as noted in BrokenBase above, fans of the PSX version weren't very pleased with the more-accurate translation used in the PSP version of "Wind's Nocturne," even though XSEED actually got Jennifer Stingle (the ''original'' singer in the PSX version) to come back and record the song. Common complaints often include how some lines of the lyrics has too many syllables that it doesn't fit in the song, and how the mood of the moment is ruined outright just by the change.
** In a truly strange case of 'They Changed It Back Halfway, Now It Sucks'; In the GBA version, Ghaleon is given back his more evil vibe and attitude he had in the original Sega CD version... but keeps and even adds to his WellIntentionedExtremist scenes from [=PS1=]... resulting in in some finding his character being a mashed-up mess.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Fresca is a warrior woman with a bullwhip. So what does she contribute to the story? She gets sick and talks about how much she wants to have Tempest's babies.
* ViewerGenderConfusion: Due to his high pitched voice, many people assume Nall is a girl.
* {{Woolseyism}}: Working Designs did a somewhat liberal translation job of the series when they released it in the West, which included adding in a series of pop culture references and various other bits of humour. Needless to say, [[BrokenBase whether or not this was better than a more faithful translation is an oft-discussed topic in the fandom]].
