* AlternateCharacterInterpretation:
** Is Bella an altruistic and rational heroine who's willing to put her life on the line for what's right and do something about vampires eating humans when no one else will? Or is she a WellIntentionedExtremist who's convinced she has all the answers and takes irresponsible risks with other people's lives as much as her own?
*** For that matter, Bella's mental control. Is she simply levelheaded and good at managing her emotions, or is she an EmotionlessGirl?
** Does Aro genuinely believe in the stability of the vampire world under the Volturi, while happening to also enjoy the perks of his position? Or is he purely motivated by his own love of power?
** Siobhan's choice to [[spoiler:help put a VegetarianVampire government in power]] is also subject to this. Did she decide she was willing to give up human blood in order to have a stable government not prone to holding innocents in [[BlackSite Black Sites]] (and not have to run said government herself)? Alternatively, did she expect to be able to worm her way out of that restriction, and realize only too late that she wouldn't?
* CryForTheDevil:
** Chelsea was treated poorly by her father, and it's implied this is the reason she's so obsessed with being loved. Combined with how emotionally fragile she's shown to be under her [[StepfordSmiler smiling exterior]], it's hard not to feel at least a little bad for her.
** Jane and Alec's entire backstory. Hated and feared as witches from the time they were young children, to the point where they were burned at the stake and nearly died. It gets even worse when [[spoiler:Jane is killed and Alec is basically doomed to a life of loneliness after agreeing to be snipped from her]].
* FanficFuel:
** The second book ends with the DawnOfAnEra as [[spoiler:Bella begins the transition to TheUnmasquedWorld where any human who wants to can become a vampire]]. What that era actually looks like is only shown in bits and pieces in ''Flashes''. As a result, there are a ton of [[RecursiveFanfiction fanfics]] depicting various aspects of everyday life in the post-''Radiance'' world.
** Whether [[spoiler:Elspeth and Jacob]] will become a couple is left unresolved, leading a number of fanfic writers to speculate in various directions.
* SugarWiki/FictionIdentityPostulate. To the friggin' ''max''. The series requires zero background knowledge of ''Literature/TheTwilightSaga'', to the point where it can be read like an original work. As a result, there are a lot of people who have never read or watched ''Twilight'', or who read it and hated it, but love ''Luminosity''.
* FridgeHorror: [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/posts.php?discussion=5dt6ub9yrpgzcwi5gjw1r0mf&page=24 Pointed out by the author on this very site]]. Allirea's state of rest -- what happens when she's not actively exerting effort -- is to be unnoticeable. This has always been the case for her. Anything that is clearly "about" Allirea is not worth notice unless she acts to counteract that default. She's also a half-vampire. [[spoiler: This means that her mother died an agonizing death by childbirth. And no one cared.]]
* FridgeLogic: An in-universe example. ''Luminosity's'' Bella is much more inquisitive and logical than ''[[Literature/TheTwilightSaga Twilight's]]'' Bella and outright questions and resolves some Fridgy issues from the original books. The issue of female vampires not being able to procreate, for example, is resolved when Bella proposes freezing her eggs while she's human in the event that she may want children as a vampire.
* GatewaySeries: The series has gotten more than a few people to read the original Twilight books just for comparison.
* GeniusBonus: Gianna is given the last name Trafeli in this fic. The name Trafeli is heavily historically associated with and concentrated in Volterra -- nearly ''half'' of all households in Italy with the name are located there.[[note]][[https://www.italianames.com/italian-last-names-maps/TRAFELI Source]] (click through to see smaller geographies). For context, Volterra has a population of about 11,000, while Italy as a whole has a population of about 60 ''million''.[[/note]]
* HilariousInHindsight: When Bella learns about Edward's past [[SerialKillerKiller hunting human murderers and the like]], she briefly wonders if he's considered "going on with the Batman routine sans complimentary beverages". Later, [[Creator/RobertPattinson Edward's actor in the Twilight movies]] would go on to play Batman, in [[Film/TheBatman2022 a movie]] that sees him hanging out with a woman named Bella who has aspirations of political leadership and social change.
* IronWoobie: Allirea. Jacob could count being forced to head a pack at fifteen, his father having been murdered and his sisters taken to Volterra. But he never complains and even manages to do a decent job as a Alpha. Cody also, his parents murdered and his siblings kept wolves and yet he is always joking and cheerful. More tellingly he does not resent Bella for surviving what killed his parents.
* JerkassWoobie:
** Allirea's attitude toward humans and belief in her father Joham's ideas about hybrids as a MasterRace don't exactly inspire sympathy, but ''no one'' deserves [[DomesticAbuse what she had to go through]].
** As awful as Chelsea is, it can't be easy for her to constantly have her emotional well-being hinge on what everyone around her thinks of her.
* MindGameShip: A lot of readers saw subtext of this kind between Addy and Elspeth in ''Radiance'', to the point where the author actually edited the end of chapter 14 to avoid ending on a certain line. This was only made worse by Flash 4 ("Mimicry"), which details how Addy finds Elspeth's power to be extremely [[MagicalSensoryEffect tasty]] and wants to teach her just to experience how it will develop.
* MoralEventHorizon: The Volturi cross this at the end of the first book when they [[spoiler:force all the Quileute wolves into their service via Chelsea, and then kill every human on the reservation, effectively committing genocide to cover up their actions]].
* NoYay: The author's reaction to the perceived Addy/Elspeth LesYay. Between Addy subjecting Elspeth to ColdBloodedTorture and threatening Jacob's life to make her compliant, and the fact that Elspeth is [[YoungerThanTheyLook five years old]], this reaction is understandable.
* ParanoiaFuel:
** Chelsea. You ''don't even notice'' when she [[MindRape cuts all your emotional ties]] to your friends and family.
** Allirea, for similar reasons. She can be right in the room with you and you won't notice ''anything'' she does unless she wants you to (or you have a power that specifically counters hers).
* SpiritualSuccessor: To ''Fanfic/HarryPotterAndTheMethodsOfRationality'', being another fanfic of a popular SpeculativeFiction series that starts from the premise that the protagonist is now some flavor of rationalist. ''Luminosity''[='=]s author, Alicorn, is a part of the same community blog, Blog/LessWrong, as ''Methods of Rationality'''s author Creator/EliezerYudkowsky.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic:
** To some readers, Bella in the first book comes off as megalomaniacal in her ambitions to change the vampire world, and unwilling to consider when she might be wrong. This isn't helped by her tendency to go behind her family's backs to do things that may [[spoiler:and do]] have disastrous consequences for them all. The impact of her actions on the rest of the Cullens is explored in Flash 16 ("Esme").
** Particularly while the fic was ongoing, some readers were turned off by Bella's propensity to push her pro-vampirism beliefs on humans, particularly in regards to persuading them to turn. This reaction died down for the most part after [[spoiler:Chapter 52 of ''Radiance'' was posted, where Bella is shown carefully designing the new laws to [[ProHumanTranshuman protect the right of free choice for humans]], including stringent penalties for non-consensual turning under any circumstances, in the face of opposition from other characters. Though given the nature of ''Twilight'' vampires, her ''believing'' these penalties will mean anything might make her come off as naive]].
* ValuesResonance: The message of introspection, self-understanding, and not letting your unexamined emotions get out of hand and control you has become a lot more relevant in recent years with the rise of mental health awareness.
