!!Franchise-wide:
* CompleteMonster: See [[Monster/StarWars here]].
* MagnificentBastard:
** [[Characters/KnightsOfTheOldRepublicRevan Darth Revan]], prior to being mindwiped into a blank slate, brought the Republic to its knees. Once a bold, dynamic young Jedi commander who singlehandedly won the Mandalorian Wars for the Republic, Revan [[TheParagonAlwaysRebels slipped to the Dark Side]] and sacrificed many of the troops whose loyalties they were unsure of. Becoming aware of the True Sith Empire, led by the monstrous Emperor Vitiate, Revan embraced Sith teachings and launched a campaign that crippled the Republic, leaving its infrastructure intact so they could one day harness it as a weapon against Vitiate and his empire. Revan executes a multitude of brilliant, perfect strategies, [[MagneticHero converting other Jedi to their cause]], seeking to both conquer and save the galaxy all at once.
** [[ChallengeSeeker Canderous Ordo]] is a hardened Mandalorian warrior-turned ruthless mercenary. Having lead countless victories over the Republic during the Mandalorian Wars, Canderous was renowned for his skill and honor equally, the man facing the ultimate loss of Mandalore to Revan with pride and dignity in a battle well fought. Eventually allying with Revan themself and considering it the thrill of a lifetime, Canderous works with them to outsmart the Sith on Taris and crime lord Davik Kang, securing the prized Ebon Hawk for Revan's use. Canderous [[VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublicIITheSithLords goes on]] to play a key role in taking down the Sith Lords Malak and Nihilus with his strategic mind, and gains so much prestige that he takes up the mantle of [[BigGood Mandalore the Preserver]] to reform the Mandalorian armies in preparation for a new campaign of conquering.
** [[RoboticPsychopath HK-47]] is an assassin droid designed by the Sith Lord Revan. A brilliant assassin in its own right, HK performs countless hits for Revan, eliminating those who might cause political strife throughout the Galaxy. Separated from Revan, HK-47 goes from owner to owner until reunited with Revan. Later managing to win over its [[AssassinOutclassin inferior duplicates]] and destroy the rogue Droid GO-TO, HK-47 survives another three centuries to find Revan and assist him again. Destroyed, HK-47 returns in the modern days, manipulating its way to seize control of a Mustafar foundry and mass produce droids for its own revolution. Defeated, HK-47 sends a [[GracefulLoser cheerful, congratulatory message]] to the spacers who bested it, though not without a light jibe at them as "meatbags".

!!YMMV for the video game ''VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic'':

* {{Adorkable}}: Bastila; it's incredibly easy to fluster her with some minor flirting. [[spoiler:Justified (at least at first) because it's [[BigBad Darth]] [[TheDreaded Revan]] doing the flirting.]]
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** Light-Side Revan. Is that who they are because [[spoiler:the council brainwashed them]], or is it a remnant of their original personality [[spoiler:from before they were brainwashed by Vitiate]]?
** Given what we now know from ''VideoGame/StarWarsTheOldRepublic'' about what happened to Revan and his followers, and the example of several Jedi during the Clone Wars millennia later, was the Jedi Council right to not involve the Jedi in the Mandalorian invasion all along? Just as the pressures of war helped push Anakin Skywalker among others closer to the Dark Side and make him more vulnerable to Darth Sidious (shown developing more extensively in ''WesternAnimation/StarWarsTheCloneWars''), the pressures of war also made Revan and Malak vulnerable to [[spoiler:Sith Emperor Vitiate]].
* AngstWhatAngst: Rahasia Sandral doesn't act very upset when you tell her that her brother is dead.
* AwesomeEgo: Assessment: HK-47 is an egotistical braggart that mocks everyone not named Revan and The Exile, and frequently boasts of his exploits and abilities. He is proud to say fans love him for it. It was almost inevitable that he'd get an {{expy}} in ''VideoGame/StarWarsTheOldRepublic'', HK-55.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Courtesy of Music/JeremySoule. This game has gems such as the very heroic and patriotic [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jSKvMyruPTA "The Old Republic"]] which is later revealed to be the Republic's anthem "All stars burn as one", the tense and militant [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZQ0MjRR8q8 "Darth Malak's Theme"]], and the epic [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDwl-31afEc "The Sith/Endar Spire"]], which establishes the tone of the tutorial level.
* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** Most fans either adore Carth to pieces or outright loathe him. Bastila often gets similar reactions.
** Some view Canderous as a sterling example of a brutal but badass warrior culture, exemplifying the honor and glory inherent in combat and a [[PragmaticVillainy pragmatic alternative]] to the [[EvilIsPetty petty, cruel evil in the Sith.]] To others he's an unrepentant jerkass hypocrite of epic proportions whose open pride in the horrific war crimes he and his people committed during the Mandalorian Wars make even the resident psychotic KillerRobot HK-47 appear tame in comparison.
** Mission Vao. Either folks think she's a useless TagalongKid who is too squishy to be of any use and pointlessly opening her mouth to annoy or distract people, or an awesome LittleMissSnarker who makes a few good points, does a pretty good job as a MoralityPet and is a awesome DifficultButAwesome LittleMissBadass whose skillset more than makes up for her squishiness. Complicate matters further by bringing up [[VideoGame/StarWarsTheOldRepublic her de facto reincarnation as Vette.]]
* BrokenBase: Fans are divided on whether the game has stood the test of time as a fun, worthwhile gaming experience, or is a bland, bog-standard RPG so thoroughly surpassed by its successors that it's boring.
* CharacterPerceptionEvolution: Carth was seen as a "Dork" in the TurnOfTheMillennium because he talked about his feelings, which at the time was seen as a sign of weakness and it wasn't uncommon to hear him described as "Girly" for this reason. However, later on, people took a second look at the character and realised that Carth's emotional and trust issues were very much justified, and he has a defined character arc involving sticking to his beliefs and overcoming such issues even when things don't work out. On top of that, he also made a good foil to Canderous. His voice actor returning for a similar character in ''VideoGame/MassEffect'' also helped others appreciate his character arc.
* ComplacentGamingSyndrome: Once you can have a full party of Jedi, you're probably only going to use Jedi party members for the rest of the game due to how much better they are than non-Jedi in combat. The only exception is Canderous.
* CrossesTheLineTwice:
** Statement: HK-47 is a homicidal assassin droid whose 90% of dialogue involves how much he enjoys killing. It's a no-brainer even to silly meatbags that he crosses the line multiple times.
** [[CoolOldGuy Jolee's]] escape on the Leviathan. He [[JediMindTrick mind controls]] a guard in letting himself out and then mind controls him again stating the guard should be locked up instead for letting him out. As if that wasn't enough Jolee decides to drop the mind control just to {{Troll}} the guard while he's down.
--->'''Guard:''' Damn you, old man! I'll kill you if I ever get outta here!\
'''Jolee:''' (With a cheerful tone of voice) Then I'll be sure to never let you out. Goodbye, sonny!
* DemonicSpiders:
** The terentatek. They almost never miss, even if you have a high defense, hit hard enough to kill your character in about five hits, have a chance at Force pushing you, poisoning you, and are [[ResistantToMagic resistant to Force powers]].
** The Guardian Droids in the ruins on Dantooine. Their defence is so high that your party will miss two out of three times, and if they do hit, your energy attacks will just bounce off their shields. They use stunning moves in addition to fairly accurate blaster fire. Finally, they have an abnormally high save rate (for droids), meaning Stun Droid, which seems like the most useful skill in this fight, will only work occasionally.
* DisappointingLastLevel: The Star Forge as it ends on a level of CutAndPasteEnvironments with lots of pointless combat -- more than the rest of the game even!
* EnsembleDarkhorse: As a result of her being a non-hostile Sith (at least at first) with a tragic backstory who provides insight into the philosophy of the Dark Side, and due to the possibility of redeeming her in a similar manner to Juhani, Yuthura Ban possesses a respectable number of fans. She stands out compared to other [=NPC=]s, with fanart and even a mod to make her a party member.
%%* EsotericHappyEnding: The Light Side ending rings hollow when you remember that [[spoiler:Revan now has to deal with the fact that not only was their entire life prior to TheReveal a total lie, but that the entire conflict ''was entirely their fault!'']]
* EvilIsCool:
** Statement: HK-47 is by far your most evil companion, and yet the silly meatbags love him for it.
** Canderous, to a far lesser extent. His is more the "LawfulEvil" variety, and his OneManArmy stats put him on par with Boba Fett.
* FanDislikedExplanation: Bring up the novel ''Literature/{{Revan}}'' with caution on the fan boards. A lot of the fanbase was far from happy with the [[spoiler: explanation that Revan and Malak completed their fall to the Dark Side because [[InvincibleVillain Vitiate]] brainwashed them.]]
* FanNickname:
** Captain Paranoid/Flyboy - Carth Onasi.
** Big Z - Zaalbar's in-game nickname.
** Mish - Mission Vao
** Bald Old Coot/Grandpa/Trollee - Jolee Bindo
** T3, Tin Can, Mobile Trashcan - T3-M4
** Tall, Pale and Jawless - Darth Malak.
** Darth Bastila - Bastila when she's becoming particularly grating, [[spoiler:and when she falls to the Dark Side for real.]]
* FanPreferredCouple:
** There's a pretty sizeable fanbase of folks who think that Juhani and Yuthura Ban would make a great team. The ladies have similar backstories, motivation, and temperament, but Juhani stuck with the Jedi and Yuthura went Sith (but comes back if you can talk her into it).
** Modding the game to allow female player characters to romance Bastila is common. At least three "biromantic Bastila" mods exist on Deadlystream and 100+ fanfics with that ship circulate on Archive of Our Own.
** For those favoring the Dark Side, there's some disappointment that the three available love interests are all heavily light sided [[spoiler: though Bastila is corrupted by endgame if you want to go the UnholyMatrimony route]], so there have been requests for the remake to include Canderous as an option, especially gender neutral. Given the HoYay between [[spoiler: the "canon" Revan and Canderous in the [[Literature/{{Revan}} tie in novel]]]], it's not a stretch.
* GameBreaker:
** [[OneManArmy Canderous]] can regenerate his health, take tons of punishment and his marksmanship is devastating. When you first acquire him as a companion, it is best that you let him handle most of the combat in Davik's compound for you.
** A very good reason to augment your Repair skill kicks in when you're repairing HK-47. Once he's fully repaired, he has regeneration, awesome stats, and can mow through enemies. The only downside is that you can't use heal spells on him.
** Clever builds can turn Juhani into one as well. Her Guardian Force Jump can put her right in the thick of things and draw aggro. Add Force Speed, Master Flurry, dual wielding saber feats and Force Heal, and you have the closest the Star Wars universe gets to ComicBook/{{Wolverine}}.
** Several Force Powers can make combat significantly easier:
*** Burst of Speed lets you move at double speed to [[MundaneUtility traverse large maps with ease]]. When you upgrade it to Knight or Master Speed you get to perform additional attacks per round of combat. This stacks with the extra attack granted by the Flurry feat, by the way, which makes for a total of ''five'' attacks per round if you dual-wield or use a two-handed melee weapon. The character basically becomes a murder machine, and very few enemies can last longer than a few minutes against this.
*** The aptly-named "Destroy Droid" spell deals high damage to hostile droids and knocks them out if they fail the save. He just spent the last few hours going through the final mission with nothing but this.
*** Force Wave will blast almost every enemy around you, dealing damage, flinging them metres away, and potentially stunning them.
*** Stasis Field and Insanity are Light-sided and Dark-sided powers respectively that do the same thing -- paralyze a group of non-droid enemies in a radius, leaving them vulnerable to about 3 rounds of unhindered attacks.
*** Throw Lightsaber is an AlwaysAccurateAttack, doesn't cost too many Force points to use, and is fairly long ranged. It can be used to endlessly kite melee enemies - including bosses - around battlefields while whittling down their health and only facing the occasional Force attack, which can be dodged with decent stats or equipment.
** Buy and wear the Electrical Capacitance Shield belt that grants you [[NoSell 100% immunity to electric attacks]]. [[ShockAndAwe Force Lightning]] is one of the Sith's most frequent attacks and they will now be rendered useless. No wonder the belt was nerfed in the sequel.
** In general, retreating allows you to tear things to bits. Need to heal? Just retreat from the battle and either use Drain Life from a safe distance or medpacks. Need to regenerate Force? Retreat until enemies lose aggro, then sit around for a bit. Being ganged up on and need to split up enemies? Just run and you can either pick them off one by one as their numbers reduce, or lose aggro and be able to pick them off with Throw Lightsaber instead. Locked in a room with melee enemies and can’t lose aggro? Just zone them with Burst of Speed and place mines until they die.
* GoodBadBugs:
** The game forgets to add the two weapon penalty when using a double-bladed weapon. So not counting the Dueling feats, using a double-bladed lightsaber has the same accuracy as a single blade. The penalty is still applied as normal when using a weapon in each hand.
** It is possible to duplicate any equippable item on Manaan by saving the game, removing the desired item, then going out the airlock and then back in.
** It is possible to get an extra 200 credits and a second copy of Bendak Starkiller's blaster by talking to Starkiller immediately after defeating Twitch without getting the reward for doing so.
** Similar to the Manaan trick above, if Zalbaar is stripped of all of his equipment before temporarily leaving the party on Kashyyyk, everything he was wearing will be duplicated.
** Force buffs have weird interactions with loading, whether from zone transitions or simply loading a save. It's not unusual to pass from one area to another only to discover your Burst of Speed buff has lasted several times longer than it should have. If you’re lucky, it can even last indefinitely.
* HarsherInHindsight: Go [[HarsherInHindsight/StarWarsLegends here]].
* HeartwarmingInHindsight: When you play ''VideoGame/StarWarsTheOldRepublic'' on the Maelstrom Prison flashpoint, one of the ships leading the jailbreak effort is named the ''Onasi'' - three hundred years later, and Carth is still bailing Revan's ass out of trouble.
* HilariousInHindsight: Go [[HilariousInHindsight/StarWarsLegends here]].
* HoYay:
** Some interactions between Carth and male PC, especially if the PC is light-sided.
*** Becomes HilariousInHindsight come ''VideoGame/MassEffect3'' when Kaiden Alenko, who shares a voice actor with Carth, becomes an available romance for Male!Shepard as well as Femshep.
** Even without the romance options, Female PC and Bastila seem closer than friends. Destinies tied by their Force bond, intimate conversations about the Force and their struggles with the Dark Side. Carth even seems jealous of how close you are at times. Even more so if you choose the Dark Side ending, where the two of you take over the galaxy together and she is the only one standing by your side in that ending cutscene.
*** Creator/JenniferHale also voices Commander Shepard herself in ''VideoGame/MassEffect'', who happens to have a female romance option in all three games.
** And of course, Juhani is the official GayOption for female PC.
*** Naturally, her voice actor returns in Mass Effect, but it’s inverted from the above in that Jack (female, as in Jacqueline) can only be romanced by a male Shepard.
* ItWasHisSled: [[spoiler:Your character is Revan with his/her memories erased.]] One of the most famous spoilers of the game's generation. The spoiler is so well-known that it's not even marked on the character page.
* MisaimedFandom: Canderous Ordo is often well liked for being such a ProudWarriorRaceGuy. Indeed, some of his stories about his war actions are a sight to behold. He's also [[TrueCompanions canonically very loyal to Revan]] - [[spoiler: supported in gameplay by the fact he is one of the few party members who will ''never'' leave your side and will always find a reason to side with you, even when you're light-sided]]. But what is so misaimed about him is the fact that, Mandalorians of ''this'' time period are... ''not'' someone you ''want'' to be friends with. Canderous's war tales include things such as wrecking ''entire worlds'' (meaning loads of collateral damage) so [[ButForMeItWasTuesday casually]]. In fact, taking a hypothetical war option that protects civilians has him call you out on it because [[ValuesDissonance sometimes you have to risk people like that in war]]. In-game, he is Dark-Sided for ''many'' reasons.
* MemeticBadass:
** Among many fans, Revan can beat anyone. ''Anyone.'' In The Old Republic MMO forums, the Star Wars Discussion forum is filled with "Revan vs. X" threads. Just to dethrone Revan's status as a Memetic Badass, there are multiple polls of "Revan vs. Palpatine" or some ridiculous fight Revan cannot win, one of the most unfair ones being "[[{{TabletopGame/Warhammer 40000}} Revan vs. The Emperor of Mankind]]". The fans decided that Revan would win.
** Calo Nord. "Go away. One... Two... smart."
** Canderous Ordo. A Mandalorian [[OldSoldier ex-warlord]] and one of your best combat-oriented companions. [[BadassNormal It doesn't matter if he can't use the Force]]. He can mow down Force users as easily as anyone else.
* MemeticLoser: As opposed to his former master, Darth Malak doesn't have too good of a reputation among fans. While he is undoubtedly a powerful Sith Lord, he is also a rather poor strategist, didn't accomplish much on his own and is said to have always been Revan's inferior. It doesn't help that [[spoiler: the first battle with him is very easy from gameplay perspective, and the second one involves him repeatedly losing most of his health, running away to heal and facing you again about dozen times, unless you kill (or free) the captive Jedi]].
* MemeticTroll:
** Statement: HK-47 and by extension, his creator [[spoiler: Darth Revan]]. [[FantasticRacism He views organics as inferior]] and calls them meatbags at every turn. If you call him out, he'll make half-assed apologies and [[HypocriticalHumor keep on using the term]]. And the reason why he's saying that is because [[spoiler: Revan]] programmed him as such after he called Malak a meatbag, much to his creator's amusement.
** Jolee has this reputation thanks to him taking advantage of the fact that he's an old man and acts senile, wise, grumpy, and irreverent all at the same time without even making it clear if this is an act or not.
* {{Moe}}: Love her or hate her, or anywhere in between, no one can deny that [[LittleMissBadass Mission]] is a very adorable, pure of heart character. She’s the protagonist’s MoralityPet for a reason. Her attempts to seem tough and street savvy despite her age just make her even cuter.
* MoralEventHorizon: See [[MoralEventHorizon/StarWars here]].
* {{Narm}}:
** The game engine is not always as versatile as the interesting setting or epic story calls for. Characters always have their weapons equipped, resulting in them sometimes stabbing themselves in the face by accident. The screen frequently fades to black when complicated-to-animate things like kisses happen.
** If an alien doesn't speak Basic, expect to hear the same [[SpeakingSimlish alien gibberish]] over and over, with only a handful of variations depending on species, gender and tone. It's hard to take the conflict on Kashyyyk seriously when 90% of the important dialogue is spoken with the same Wookiee sample, and the Manaan courts become a lot more boring when it's mostly Selkath gurgling sounds.
** There is one scene in which the player, Carth, and Bastila are subjected to ColdBloodedTorture while being trapped in prison pods. When all three of you are shocked, they all end up doing the ''exact same motions'' in sync while screaming [[SpecialEffectFailure with their mouths visibly closed]]. They look almost like they're ''dancing''.
** The male voice for the protagonist’s grunts and short words is generally fine, but if you suffer the poison status effect, he gives this hilariously whiney “Ohhh, I’ve been poisoned!”
** The [[http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:KotOR_Dark_Jedi.png Dark Jedi robes]] look distinctly... wedgie-inducing.
** Malak is a frightening antagonist... until he laughs, which seems so forced and not sinister that it's hard not to laugh yourself.
** Speaking of Malak, the scene where he tortures Bastila has the latter [[BigNo screaming "NOOOO!!!"]] in an absurdly goofy/melodramatic tone. [[https://youtu.be/bNXA2Q81sno&t=50s It has to be heard to be believed.]]
** A lot of the Dark Side options are [[EvilIsPetty eye-rollingly petty]]. [[spoiler: Given who the player character turns out to be, it becomes harder to take Revan seriously knowing that they would probably take candy from a baby if given the chance.]]
** Darth Bandon tries ''way'' too hard to look intimidating. Killing a random trooper for crossing in front of him feels less like a terrifying villain who will kill subordinates to demonstrate their lack of respect for life, and more like EvilIsPetty taken to such a level of silliness, it borders on parody.
** Carth's hilariously off-model [[https://66.media.tumblr.com/315016703b57e8c4199fb3cf757f8f30/tumblr_png3ej1lwN1v49zbb_1280.jpg smile]] in the LS ending looks like he's wearing a set of novelty teeth.
* SugarWiki/NoProblemWithLicensedGames: Prior to the ''Franchise/BatmanArkhamSeries'', this game was considered to be the gold standard for licensed video games, and is still considered one to this day.
* OnceOriginalNowCommon:
** When the game came out, Creator/BioWare was still relatively new to non-isometric gaming and the idea of a ''Star Wars'' RPG set in the franchise's ancient history was novel and exciting. Now, with a more-mature [=BioWare=] coming out with better games, and with many other titles, including its own sequel, improving on it in many ways, the original ''Knights of the Old Republic'' can come off as a bog-standard console RPG with bland and simplistic writing to more modern audiences.
** Bioware has become very well-known for having a GayOption, to the point where it's very noticeable when it's ''not'' there. They only managed to get Juhani in the game by flying very low under the Lucasarts radar, and even there, there was a lot of controversy and protest as she was the first established LGBTQ character ''ever'' in ''Franchise/StarWarsLegends''.
* PlayerPunch:
** Remember all the people you helped directly or economically on Taris? [[spoiler: Nearly all of them got killed in the ensuing bombardment.]]
** TheReveal is quite the PlayerPunch if you play as Light Side. [[spoiler: Instead of simply fighting Malak, you realize that YOU dragged him to the Dark Side to begin with so now you're undoing the atrocities you helped create.]]
* PolishedPort: The mobile port of the first game adapted pretty well to touchscreen control, despite being built from the ground up for either Keyboard and Mouse or controller.
* PortingDisaster:
** The UsefulNotes/{{Steam}} versions of both ''KOTOR 1'' and ''KOTOR 2'' struggle to run on modern operating systems despite being released long after Windows XP computers were in the minority, with movie cutscenes being a particular problem spot. The Website/GOGDotCom versions enjoy a bit more support but are still crash-happy. The Steam version of [=KOTOR=] 2 edged more towards PolishedPort eventually, however.
** The mobile version of the game is mostly a PolishedPort, but the RacingMinigame is much harder to complete than other versions.
** The Switch version is prone to crashing upon loading new areas, and the May 2022 update introduced a GameBreakingBug that locks the player in Naga Sadow's tomb. Said bug wouldn't be fixed until February 2024.
* RetroactiveRecognition:
** As hard as it is to believe now, Saul Karath became [[VideoGame/MassEffect2 Zaeed Massani]], [[VideoGame/DragonAgeOrigins Murdock, and Harrowmont]].
** Juhani would eventually go on to voice [[VideoGame/MassEffect2 another troubled Force-user]] with a tendency to shout "I will destroy you!"
** Carth acting as your voice of conscience is also pretty HilariousInHindsight, considering his role in ''Series/OnceUponATime.''
*** Carth also shows up in [[Franchise/MassEffect the Mass Effect series]] as a military man troubled by emotional issues, and who is a potential romance option.
** Does the voice of Canderous's old buddy Jagi sound familiar? He should, because he's none other than [[VideoGame/DawnOfWar Devastator Sergeant Avitus, Blood Ravens Fourth Company]]. Later still, he would play [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolidVThePhantomPain Skull Face]], which makes it an interesting coincidence that his enmity is with Canderous, who was voiced by fellow Metal Gear villain [[VideoGame/MetalGearSolid2SonsOfLiberty Solidus Snake]]. More recently still, he'd provide the voice of [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIIRemake President Shinra]].
** Although [[Creator/JenniferHale Bastila's voice actor]] was already quite prominent at the time, Creator/BioWare fans will, once they get past her accent, recognize her as [[Franchise/MassEffect Female Commander Shepard]].
* RewatchBonus: So, ''so'' much of the game's plot makes a lot more sense after you learn that [[spoiler:you are an amnesiac Sith Lord]].
* ScrappyMechanic:
** Whose bright idea was it to make nearly every loot drop completely random, but not the chests or merchants? (See the second game and its almost complete randomization, occasionally giving you some pretty good items from the get-go).
** Sometimes, your party members will just stop following you for no apparent reason, forcing you to either wait for them or manually walk them back to you, which will lead to the rest of your party running over to them. Worse, they will also sometimes run in a completely random direction.
*** Sometimes, they get stuck on [=NPCs=].
** During the Star Forge level, there is a glitch where one of your party members will stop responding to your commands, essentially forcing you to watch them die.
** Combat can be a huge pain if you want your party to stick together in a large space (like the Star Forge), since you cannot manually control their movements without ignoring the rest of your team. If your party members are too far away from you when they pick a target, it is impossible for you to bring them back to you. This is one of the main reasons why the Star Forge is not remembered fondly, as this mechanic hurts this level the most.
** When selling items of certain value or higher, the computer will pester you with a message box asking you to confirm the transaction. There's no way to turn it off.
** Also while shopping, you can only sell ''one item at a time'', including ''stackable items''. Have fun selling those hundred of racing bonds.
** For a significant number of fans, the turret fighter sequences are all but impossible using the keyboard controls. Especially frustrating is the first one that happens while you're escaping Taris, since if your ship explodes you have to watch all the cutscenes again. Fortunately, there are mods that exist which eliminate all but the plot mandatory sequences and make the fights easier to get through.
* ScrappyWeapon: Blaster Rifles and Heavy Weapons. They are {{BFG}}s, but has the exact same range as blaster rifles/carbines and their firepower are barely any better. Combine with a bad critical threat range, mediocre attack bonus and low availability, they are not very popular with players. Even for ranged specialists you're better off dual-wielding blaster pistols since that means you get two hits per round of combat. The DLC rectifies this by adding the Baragwin Assault Gun and the Baragwin Heavy Repeating Blaster which are the most devastating non-Jedi weapons. They are very expensive, however.
* SlowPacedBeginning: Taris takes a long time to complete, usually two hours if not more. Even after you reunite with Bastila, you still have two more dungeons to go through before you can finally get off the planet. The pacing doesn't really pick up until the galaxy map is unlocked.
* StrawmanHasAPoint: Czerka on Tattooine - Yes, Czerka is a colonial force, except thanks to the BrokenAesop around the Sand People, it's actually kind of hard ''not'' to fault them in this case. Not helping is that one of your contacts for the Dark Side route is a Jawa - who are a WoobieSpecies that are ''also'' common targets of being enslaved and killed by the Sand People. Czerka may be a crooked megacorp, but the Jawas (who are just as indigenous as Sand People) will express they greatly prefer dealing with Czerka because Czerka's local leadership is willing to peacefully trade with them, instead of enslaving them like the Sand People do. The Light side option essentially forces the player to just "look the other way" when it comes to what the Sand People do to Jawa.
* StockFootageFailure: The Sith fighter minigame reuses the same cutscene and background regardless of what system you're in. This means that the same nebula appears in about half a dozen systems across the galaxy.
* SpecialEffectFailure:
** The aforementioned torture scene has Carth, Bastila, and the player being subjected to ColdBloodedTorture via electricity... and they are not only screaming with their mouths closed but they perform the exact same motions ''in sync'' so it looks more like they are dancing.
** On occasion, the game will render scenes in-engine, meaning characters will not place down their weapons. Completing Mission Vao's personal quest in particular might involve her accidentally ramming a vibroblade right through her face.
** The ArtificialAtmosphericActions wherein random townsfolk will just walk aimlessly. Sometimes they will ''clip through your weapons'' or ''walk through you mid-conversation'' if you're far enough from the person you're talking to.
* ThatOneBoss:
** Ironically enough, the dark side alignment lock boss fight can get very messy very fast if you've been playing optimally. [[spoiler:It's a two-on-two fight between you and a freshly fallen Bastila (who is stuck with a poorly optimized JackOfAllStats build) vs. Jolee and Juhani, who retain their stats and equipment from their time in your party. If they are well-built enough, they can tag-team and annihilate you in short order, and Bastila is no match for them on her own.]]
** Malak can be this if you haven't done your build right (though he can also be an AntiClimaxBoss if the player knows what they're doing throughout the game). Going Light Side Scoundrel/Consular is one example, as you have very few hit points compared to, say, a Soldier/Guardian, and most of your damage comes from stunning your enemies and doing loads of sneak attacks. Problem is, Malak's got very high saves and will almost always make his saving throws against your Force attacks.
* ThatOneLevel:
** Taris is loathed by many due to being a MarathonLevel for a SlowPacedBeginning. The level involves spending a huge amount of time running around many areas (including the Upper City, Lower City, Undercity and its sewers, as well as the Black Vulkar base) to track down Bastila. Later, you need to break into a Sith base and infiltrate Davik's estate to steal the Ebon Hawk so you could get off Taris. Eventually it is followed by a mandatory gun turret mini-game. While the challenges are scaled for characters up to level 6 to 8, players looking to maximize the amount of Jedi levels they gain want the player as low a level as possible, and since you CantDropTheHero, it means going with an effective two-man party for this planet's entirety.
** Manaan. The first half has lots of running back-and-forth with very little combat to break up the monotony, and the major sidequests that take place here put you into very long dialogue sequences with the Selkath courts. This means listening to looped Selkath speech audio while you develop eyestrain reading the subtitles. When you finally get to the real meat of the section, the Hrakert Rift, you're forced into underwater sections where you trudge along the seabed at a snail's pace with only a second's reaction time to repel firaxan sharks that can instakill you.
** Kashyyyk. It's full of monotonous "go here, get that" type of quests, doesn't give you a lot of choice in how the story plays out, the terrain is frustrating, party members switching is disabled for the most part as well as [[EscapeRope party transit]], and since virtually every character is a Wookiee you're going to hear a ''lot'' of Wookiee speech. The common saving grace is that you meet Jolee here, who's a useful party member and a great character to talk to.
** [[TheVeryDefinitelyFinalDungeon The Star Forge]] is relentlessly hard and without the right squad (read: Juhani and Jolee) it will tear you apart. It sends infinitely-respawning waves of Dark Jedi, Sith Troopers, and battle droids. If you let Dark Jedi swarm you, you're as good as dead. You can't run past them, because your companions won't ignore enemies and will attack on sight. Should you backtrack because of it, there's a chance another division will appear. Adding to the frustration is the maximum level 20 cap you probably hit before even reaching the Star Forge, meaning that all those kills won't make you gain a level.
* ThatOneSidequest:
** The sidequest to defeat Bendak Starkiller is infamous as one of the most difficult fights in the game. You have to fight him on Taris when EarlyGameHell is very much still in effect and you don't have any Jedi powers, he's a DuelBoss (meaning no hiding behind Zaalbar or Bastila to keep you alive), and he has very high combat parameters for that point in the game plus three plasma grenades. And if you're saving levels for more Force powers? God help you. It's quite telling that the typical strategy is to run away until he's done chucking plasma grenades at you and then use your own supply of plasma grenades (which generally ignore stats and would normally fall under the heading of TooAwesomeToUse at that point in the game) to overwhelm him.
** Beating all the swoop racing champions. Not only does it take a lot of practice, patience, trial and error, but the promoters also charge you 100 credits every time you race. Even more frustrating is an unskippable cutscene of you slowly returning from racing and getting booed you have to endure every freakin' time you lose. It gets ''really'' annoying if you only lost by a tenth of a second or so, though you can always SaveScum to just before you talked to the race manager the first time to save money.
** Trying to end Sunry's trial with an innocent verdict involves questioning the witnesses extensively, gathering a load of evidence to present to both Sunry and the witnesses, and it's capped off with careful maneuvering through a very long dialogue sequence at the Selkath courts. It's far easier to land a guilty verdict for him -- this still ends the quest but yields a smaller reward.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Dark-Sided Juhani. The only option to deal with Juhani and allow her to be a party member are to redeem her to the Light, while the Dark-Sided option is to kill her. While a Dark-Sided player can still redeem her in order to get Juhani as a party member, it would have been very interesting to instead be able to recruit Juhani while she was Dark-Sided and corrupt her further over the course of the game.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: The game never explores how Revan comes to terms with TheReveal that their personality has been rewritten by the Jedi Council. The game's BlackAndWhiteMorality shoehorns all of Revan's responses into either "I am a servant of the light now" or "Darth Revan is back!" and going fully dark side.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: The Light Side choice on Tatooine is to make peace with the Tusken Raiders, otherwise known as the Sand People, while siding with Czerka is the Dark Side. Clearly, you should side with the natives rather than the colonialist force. Unfortunately, it's not until you fully commit that you actually get to ''see'' a more morally grey side ''to'' the Sand People - and even then their characterization is largely consistent with the rest of ''Star Wars'': Intentionally violent, merciless, and xenophobic. Whenever you encounter them? They are... enslaving and killing people for no apparent reason. (Worse yet, these people are ''also'' Jawas... who are also native to Tatooine.) This is mitigated somewhat by the fact that doing so gives the Tusken Raiders a way to move further in and not step on Czerka or presumably the Jawas toes, but it still does require you to basically excuse the crimes they did and still do commit.
* ValuesDissonance:
** The indigenous population of Tatooine are referred to as "Sand People". While the use of the name to refer to them was consistent with ''Star Wars'' lore at the time (and is what they call themselves, the "Tusken Raiders" appellation coming later in the ''Legends'' timeline and imposed on them by later colonists), it's become somewhat of a slur against people of Middle Eastern and North African descent during TheNewTens.
** Juhani's romance option and sexual orientation is never directly stated and carried through on subtext that is very easy to miss. It seems a classic HideYourGays by today's more friendly atmosphere but back in 2003, it was the only way to smuggle a gay character past very homophobic censors, making it a FairForItsDay.
** Some newer players have remarked on Website/{{Tumblr}} that they find the heterosexual romance options off-putting with a male character teasing a nervous Bastila until she relents and Carth's flirting with a female character to be much too aggressive.
** There's also some who are uncomfortable with the AgeGapRomance part of the OfficialCouple; [[spoiler: the "canon" Revan is a thirty-eight year old man and Bastila is roughly twenty-three]].
* TheWoobie: Juhani. The very first time you talk to her, you want to comfort her and reassure her that her life isn't over because of one mistake. That's before you learn all the rest: the details of her traumatic childhood, how she had trouble making friends when she joined the Jedi Order and spent time mostly by herself, and how one of the few friends she did make had his heart broken after he confessed his love for her and that she feels terrible about how much it hurt him to hear that she didn't share his feelings [[spoiler: because she's gay]]. It's difficult to imagine anybody not wanting to hug her, tell her that everything's going to be all right, that things will be better from now on, and that not everything she feels guilty about is her fault.

!!YMMV for the comic book ''ComicBook/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic'':
* AssPull: The hints had been dropped so steadily and for so long that [[spoiler:Demagol having switched places with Rohlan]] probably qualifies as TheUnreveal. But the fact that he's also [[spoiler:Jarael's childhood mentor and Chantique's father]]? ''Nobody'' saw ''that'' coming. And yet, in retrospect it [[FridgeBrilliance makes perfect sense]].
* FanPreferredCouple: Zayne and Jarael. [[spoiler:At least, they started ''out'' as this since fans thought Zayne would end up with Shel. Safe to say the last issue made ''a lot'' of fans happy]].
* SugarWiki/FunnyMoments: Copious, especially in the introductory story-arc.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** The Jedi Covenant see a vision of a Sith lord dressed in a red environmental suit. At first, and given the events later, they're considered to have interpreted the vision wrongly. [[spoiler: Alek wears one at the end of the flashpoint arc. The comic even calls attention to it.]]
** After preventing the orbital bombardment of Serroco from being a total holocaust by calling in bogus tornado warnings and causing the native aliens to retreat to underground bunkers, Carth tells Zayne that "I hope, if it comes down to it, that someone would play the same trick on my family." [[spoiler: He later loses a wife and son when his own captain defects and glasses his homeworld.]]
** In light of what happens later, Saul trying to jail Zayne and his friends and turn them over to the Jedi for what will likely be a death sentence. Bastila may believe Jedi don't use the death penalty, but the Covenant sure didn't get the memo.
** Also, in light of what happens later, Carth getting tangled in a Jedi conspiracy and cover up, and befriending the poor fellow at the center of the mess explains a lot about why he rightly suspected the Jedi Council was pulling something shady during the game.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: Zayne Carrick telling Gryph that he's going to be a Jedi of the People and not let people who slip through the cracks suffer because of the Jedi Council's high handedness. Effectively choosing his friends over a Jedi Knighthood.
** Gryph telling the Jedi Covenant that they never knew Zayne at all if they ever believed he could hunt them down and murder them.
** Zayne and Shel's reconciliation in Knights of Suffering, especially considering the fact that she was planning to kill him less then fifteen minutes earlier. Her crying into his shoulder while hugging him probably helped to establish this atmosphere.
** Zayne meets his father after being framed and notes that he hasn't asked about the murders Zayne has been accused of. His dad immediately answers that he never believed Zayne committed those crimes and if he actually did then it must have been something he needed to do.
** Zayne and Jarael [[spoiler: getting together at the end of comic. Even though it's a bit of a LastMinuteHookup, after everything the two of them have been through it's still very sweet. Even better, the end of mini-series reveals that they're still together even after Zayne gets back from the Mandalorian Wars. ]]
* HoYay: When Celeste asks Zayne and Gryph if they were bitten (by Rakghouls), Zayne responds "No, we're just friends".
* MagnificentBastard: [[HyperCompetentSidekick Cassus Fett]] is the [[TheDragon second-in-command]] of the Mandalorian army, passed in rank only by his leader Mandalore the Ultimate, to whom Cassus is utterly dedicated to conquering the galaxy in the name of. Reforming the frazzled people of the planet Mandalore into a competent armada that ever-expands its ranks by offering warrior posts to anyone able and willing, Cassus brilliantly pulls off a variety of extremely successful strategies that result in the Mandalorians conquering world after world all while manipulating the Galactic Republic into believing Mandalore is weaker than it truly is. Vicious and smart enough to pull off a full-scale genocide of the powerful planet of Cathar as vengeance for their betrayal of Mandalore decades past, Cassus ends up indebting himself to Zayne Carrick when the rogue Jedi saves Cassus's life, and Cassus later assists Zayne in taking down the horrific [[MadScientist Demagol]], proclaiming it to be not only about repaying Zayne, but also due to a [[EvenEvilHasStandards personal distaste for Demagol]].
* SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome: Far too many for this page. A partial list can be found at [[Awesome/StarWarsLegends Moments of Awesome: Star Wars Legends]].
* MoralEventHorizon:
** Chantique crosses this during Destroyer, when she mindrapes Zayne, screws with his head, forces him to kill his friend, and causes him to drive Jarael away. Adding to the cruelty is the fact that Zayne fails to realize that he's been played until right after it's too late. Not even the fact that her father sold her into slavery, or the fact that Jarael doublecrossed her justifies the cruelty she shows Zayne during those two issues.
** Raana Tey does when she tries to manipulate Shel into killing Zayne. Before she was kind of sympathetic, as her madness was caused by her guilt for what she had done.
* NightmareFuel: Demagol's experiments. The Exgorths. The way that the Crucible tries to break Zayne Carrick.
** Haazen's... "[[{{Squick}} reconstruction]]". ''[[http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/File:HaazenRebuilt.jpg GAH.]]''
* TearJerker: Zayne has two of these in issue 6; the first when he sees his girlfriend's betrayed face in the crowd, and when he learns that his friends never really believed in him. Yeah, he gets better, but still.
** "The people! The people!"
* TheWoobie: Zayne Carrick's life continually goes from bad to worse.
** Snout qualifies big time. He's forcibly turned into a killing machine and made to experience the memories of over 1000 years of pain and misery, and is forced to fight the one person who showed him any compassion in many years. Ultimately he kills himself rather then murder his friend even though he could have easily done it.
