* CriticalBacklash: In the early [=2010s=], Bieber was relentlessly mocked on the Internet for being a "manufactured" pop star whose music was bland radio fodder, a reputation that wasn't helped by the bizarre antics he got up to offstage. As time went on, however, many people began to see this mockery as disproportionate to the actual negative qualities of his work. It helped that Bieber himself [[GrowingTheBeard adopted a more mature image and sound]].
* CultClassic: ''Journals'' was not a commercial success at all, but many fans enjoy it for showing a ContemporaryRAndB side of Bieber that wouldn't get explored until ''Changes''.
* FanNickname: So, so many of them:
** For starters, there's "Biebus" (since his fans think he's like Jesus).
** "Beliebers" like having Bieber Fever, while haters dislike having the Biebonic Plague.
** People who are into ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' seem to call him "Justin [[TheScrappy Bibarel]]".
** And then there's "Justine Bieber" for the haters who purposely call him a girl.
** [[{{Pun}} "Justin Beaver"]] exists too. It's the name of the parody of the singer in ''WesternAnimation/SonicBoom''.
** The seemingly ubiquitous grandfather nickname: "Jason Booby"
** One of Music/TheJonasBrothers called him [[{{Spoonerism}} "Bustin Jieber"]] on Twitter and it caught on for a while.
** Many of his haters call him Justin [[CensoredForComedy *Bleep*er]].
** Then there's "The Biebs."
** And don't forget [[WesternAnimation/SpongebobSquarepants SpongBieb SquarePants.]]
* GrowingTheBeard: ''Purpose'' is generally taken as the point where he went from Internet punching bag to serious artist.
* HarsherInHindsight: When Bieber went through quite a crazy phase of controversy back in 2013, almost everyone hated him. Flashforward to 2020 and the release of the emotional track "Lonely" and everyone got to see a glimpse of Bieber that nobody knew he was struggling with at the time.
* {{Narm}}:
** "Yummy" is supposed to be a sensual track to show his new, mature self, but it becomes hilarious thanks to the chorus, "Yeah, you got that yummy, yummy, yummy, yummy, yummy, yummy yum", which makes him sound more like a little kid than adult showing his love for his wife.
** "Holy", another song dedicated to Hailey ([[GodIsLoveSong and God]]), comes as more laughable than love-inspiring thanks to Bieber's vocals coming off as less soulful and more deadpan and several out-there lyrics, such as "On God! Running to the alter like a trackstar!".
* {{Tearjerker}}:
** His 2020 single "Lonely" is just ''heartwrenching''. Despite his massive fan base of Beliebers, Justin wrestled with feelings of isolation as few could relate to his newfound fame to provide him with emotional support. The lyrics of this melancholy song tell a story of loneliness despite success.
*** The Canadian pop star explained that when Blanco and Finneas first played him their original demo, it was hard for him to listen. It brought Bieber back to those tough years as a child in the limelight, which had been so hard to get through.
*** When he went into the studio, Bieber didn't find it easy to sing the track, but he started to see the importance of telling his story knowing that everybody gets lonely at times. "Being someone in my position I believe it is powerful to express vulnerability and that's why I believe this song is so powerful."
*** Paper Towns director Jake Schreier shot the music video, which depicts a My World-era Biebs played by 14-year-old Room star Jacob Tremblay. We see Tremblay, complete with side-swept hair and purple hoodie, making his way from the backstage of a theater to an empty stage where Bieber is the only one in the audience. Justin commented that it "was emotional to see him play me from the outside looking in.
** His 2022 single "Ghost" portrays the loss of a romantic relationship, with several [[ShoutOut Shout-outs]] in the music video suggesting that it was inspired by his ex Music/SelenaGomez. The music video takes it up to eleven when it depicts him mourning his grandfather along with his on-screen grandmother played by actress Diane Keaton. The Colin Tilley-directed clip opens on the death of his grandfather. While their grief never completely goes away, the grandmother and grandson find ways to connect and rediscover joy, hanging out on a scenic beach and toasting and dancing at a bar. Life goes on as he encourages her to date again.
** “Hold On” is an upbeat continuation into the new era of music. The track grapples with the idea of overcoming cyclical feelings of worthlessness. It's been confirmed by Bieber that the song is about hope and holding on in desolate times.
*** The music video for "Hold On" begins with an intro, Justin on a motorcycle chase with the police, where one of them shoots him. The title of the song appears, the name of the director Colin Tilley and the video clip begins. Justin Bieber's role in the music video is of a man with his partner who suffers from cancer. Where in scenes you can see where the couple (Christine Ko) leave the hospital with the test of the disease. Justin's character has a garage sale selling things from his house to pay for his partner's treatment. The garage sale is not very good and does not raise enough money for the operation, the Justin character as a last option decides to rob a bank. In preparation for the robbery. When the character arrives at the bank on a motorcycle, he is nervous. Upon arrival, he leaves a paper for the cashier that says "I don't wanna hurt anybody but I had to", the woman gives him the money but presses the emergency button. When Justin leaves the bank with the money, the alarm sounds and security intercepts him, Justin pushes him and runs out breaking the window; He runs with the motorcycle and the police start chasing him. In that moment the footage of the intro where the police chase, where the policeman shoots him and Justin leaves the place with his motorcycle is there. After that scene, Justin arrives at the hospital with the shot and lies down on the bed where his partner is, he drops gun and was a toy gun, the police realize that and do not decide to arrest him at this moment.
** On the melodic track “Anyone”, he sings about his love for his wife Hailey Baldwin Bieber, expressing that he is and he will always be there for her regardless of anything. The music video takes inspiration from the ''Franchise/{{Rocky}}'' films and depicts Bieber as a struggling boxer with Zoey Deutch costarring as his on-screen wife.
** The track "Holy" (feat. Chance The Rapper). In the song's music video, Justin plays the part of an oil factory worker who lives in poverty, living in a motel with his wife/girlfriend. The girl is working as a nurse in an elderly care center and is shown to have developed a friendship with one of the elders. The factory workers are having a meeting with their boss, who announces that due to the coronavirus pandemic, the plant has to shut down and that they are now unemployed. Leaving work, Justin's car refuses to start and he has to walk all the way home. The girl also finds out her patient died overnight. To make matters worse, the couple are being evicted from their motel room. They end up becoming homeless and dragging their bags along the road at night-time. Wilmer Valderrama makes his appearance, playing a soldier driving home after coming back home from deployment. He pulls over, concerned about the couple, and invites them to come over to their house for a warm meal. The music video ends on a bittersweet note as the soldier embraces his welcoming family and ends with the group having dinner as a family.
