For YMMV tropes relating to Ares and it's continuity, [[YMMV/InazumaElevenAres go here]].

[[folder:A-F]]
* AccidentalInnuendo: The English Dub of the anime changed the title of Season 1 Episode 9, Megane's DayInTheLimelight episode, from ''"Megane, Stand!"'' to ''"Willy Rising!"'', the innuendo comes from the fact that Megane's Dub Name, Willy, while an actual name, also just so happens to be British slang for Penis, causing the episode title to suddenly sound less like it's about Megane TakingALevelInBadAss and more like it's about someone getting an erection.
* {{Adorkable}}:
** Kageno is a rather socially awkward boy who has the quirk of standing behind other people when talking to them. He also becomes flattered when many people look at him. At the end of the day, he just wants to fit in despite all his flaws, which is what makes him endearing.
** Tachimukai comes across as endearingly dorky when he fanboys around Endou (the first time he meets his idol, he hides behind his teammate and walks towards Endou like a robot) or when he feels nervous when taking Endou's position as a goalkeeper.
** Midorikawa claims that it took him a while to develop a convincing alien persona which is the opposite of his friendly, cheerful and hardworking personality.
* AmericansHateTingle: While he is better liked in Japan where he has the status of a memetic character, a lot of people from the overseas fandom strongly dislike Kurimatsu. Aside from his annoying voice and VerbalTic, many people believe he doesn't deserve to be in Inazuma Japan, especially over more popular characters like Max. The fact that he's considered weak and useless, with minimal contribution to the national team before being eventually withdrawn from it, only makes him more divisive.
* AnticlimaxBoss:
** Arakumo Gakuen in ''GO''. They're the team you face for the semifinals and they're billed as one of the strongest opponents in the competition, and their striker is supposed to be one of the best ever (and it ''shows'' in his stats) Wouldn't expect them to fall into this trope, right? Well, you happen to get ''two'' back-to-back [[EleventhHourSuperpower Eleventh Hour Superpowers]], each more ridiculously [[GameBreaker Game Breaking]] than the last, ''and'' it's one of the very few times where ''you'' get a scripted goal, so the whole thing quickly devolves into a CurbStompBattle in your favour.
** Delibarately invoked with Seidouzan. They're the team you have to play in the finals, they're coached by the BigBad and they're supposed to be incredibly strong (winning one of their previous matches 19-0). You're also given the ominous warning that you must be in the lead by half time or you'll get a NonStandardGameOver. Yet they're suspiciously easy. [[spoiler: This is because ''there is no second half''. At half-time, the ''real'' BigBad takes over and [[BaitAndSwitchBoss subs out the entire team and their coach with his own]], and you face Dragonlink instead, who are definately a challenge befitting of a FinalBoss. And it's implied that Goenji was instructing Seidouzan to hold back.]]
* ArtifactTitle: Depending on how you choose to interpret the title.
** If ''Inazuma Eleven'' is taken only as the original Inazuma Eleven, then the trope is played straight. While [[spoiler: Hibiki]] did have a minor (yet important) role in GO, [[spoiler: Daisuke]] helped created Chrono Storm in ''Chrono Stone'', and [[spoiler: Kageyama]] coaches Inazuma Japan in ''Galaxy'', the focus never goes back to the original Inazuma Eleven by GO.
** If ''Inazuma Eleven'' is interpreted as the original Inazuma Eleven in the original series, and Inazuma Japan (despite having 16 players) by GO, then the trope is averted; as GO has a strong focus on how former Inazuma Japan players [[PassingTheTorch passes down the torch to the new players]].
* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** Coach Hitomiko. [[RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap She was redeemed to some]] after TheReveal [[spoiler:that she's been trying to stop her father's dastardly plot]], but naturally that doesn't account for everyone.
** Someoka. Some people love him because beneath his tough and unapproachable exterior he's actually a genuinely caring person, but other people think he's a hot-tempered {{Jerkass}} and nothing else. More so in the episodes where Fubuki joins the team, due to acting hostile towards him [[spoiler:for replacing Gouenji as the ace striker]]. He comes across as a {{Tsundere}} to [[YaoiFangirl some]], but as a {{Hypocrite}} who can't make up his mind to others.
** Natsumi, ''especially'' after ''GO''. People who didn't care for her started to hate her after [[spoiler:[[DieForOurShip she was revealed to be Endou's wife]], in favor of more popular ships like [[FanPreferredCouple Endou and Aki or any of the guys]]. What makes the OfficialCouple so controversial is that some people claim it comes out of no where, but those that support it point out that it didn't come out of no where and there's enough build up for it in the original series.]] Shipping issues aside, some people think she's an interesting and well-developed character, but others think she's too bossy and mean.
** Beta. [[spoiler: More so in the Asian fandom than in the overseas fandom. She is considered sadistically cute/badass by some, yet annoying by others, who especially hate her for capturing Endou Mamoru.]]
** Shinsuke became very divisive over the years in the western hemisphere. While he's still well-liked for his personality, his cute design, his hissatsu techniques and for being a supportive friend for Tenma, other people find him annoying or preferred him as a defender. Many fans are also salty about Shinsuke being hit with TheWorfEffect in ''Chrono Stone'' and sneaking on the Earth Eleven ship, essentially forcing himself onto the team, in ''Galaxy''.
* BizarroEpisode:
** TheMovie, which starts out as a recap of the first season then things start swerving off of continuity; and the events of TheMovie never seem to be mentioned again. An AlternateContinuity where Endou could easily point at certain people he just met and exclaim [[spoiler:they came from the future to help him win the Football Frontier]] sounds pretty confusing.
** Episode 100 when Hiroto and Kogure get lost in the woods, and are challenged to a match by a pair of Kappas, no character development happens, no new techniques are learned, and it's only mentioned in a blink and you miss it scene during a flashback. The Kappas, surprisingly enough, make a brief cameo in Go's movie.
* BreatherBoss:
** Despite the match taking place during the fifth chapter, Team Otaku is one of the easiest opponents in the first game. The opposing players have unremarkable skills, which are meant to be compensated by the chapter's main gimmick: After you visit a certain location, your team's stats are all dropped to 1. However, this debuff does ''not'' affect characters that are recruited after said event or backup players, which can be promptly swapped in to take out Team Otaku with minimal effort.
** Kidokawa/Kirkwood in ''GO''. After the first two Nationals teams, these guys are surprisingly easy, as most of the mid-match scripted events are in ''your favour'', giving your team a new tactic that lets you ignore the arena's gimmick and giving one of your members an Avatar. Also, unlike the first two teams, these guys didn't know the arena's gimmick in advance, so it hurts them just as much as it hurts you. Justified, since there's massive infighting within the team as to whether to support Fifth Sector or not, and the team's captain is more concerned with having a fun match than winning at all costs.
* CaptainObviousReveal: The plot twist that [[spoiler: Ishido Shuuji]] was the one who saved Tenma's life in ''GO''. Anyone familiar with the original games would've recognised [[spoiler: Gouenji]] in the flashback cutscene immidiately, so when TheReveal comes it's easy to put two and two together. It's also very easy to see coming from a plot standpoint: [[spoiler: the BigBad had [[WeUsedToBeFriends a persona connection]] with Endou, but not with the actual main character Tenma. This plot point fixes that by making him a BrokenPedestal, giving Tenma some angst and later motivation.]]
* CargoShip:
** Endou x Sakka Ball OTP.
** Might be ''even more so'' with Tenma. Heck, Tenma x ''Soccer itself'' is [[CompanionCube practically canon.]]
** Fudou/Bench is also fairly popular due to [[spoiler: [[BreakTheHaughty Being benched during the Asian preliminaries]] and in ''GO'' he is found sleeping on a bench.]]
** Asuto/Soccer to a lesser extent. Seems to be a thing with the GenkiBoy protagonist in the series.
* CompleteMonster (''VideoGame/InazumaEleven Go Galaxy''): [[GalacticConqueror Ireid Orbes]] is the first ruler of Faram Orbius, whose evil is still felt [[PosthumousCharacter centuries after his death]]. During his rule, Ireid started countless wars to steal the resources of his enemies, with planets like Ixal being obliterated by his fleet. Ireid also tries to mold his son Arculus into a ruthless strategist, criticizing him for caring for their loyal soldiers, which Ireid [[WeHaveReserves considers expendable resource to be sacrificed]]. When the Queen is caught in a battle, Ireid coldly orders his son to leave her to die, and when Arculus refuses to obey, Ireid [[OffingTheOffspring tries to murder his own son]], considering him a failure.
* ContestedSequel: The Inazuma Eleven ''GO'' series for fans of the original. Some think that it is much better than the original while others think that it is a step backwards. That said, ''GO'' has been VindicatedByHistory over the years when ''Ares'' and it's continuity, especially with the Anime adaptation, [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter prove to be even]] [[ItsShortSoItSucks more divisive]] in several ways.
* CriticalDissonance: ''Chrono Stone'' and ''Galaxy'' from the ''GO'' installment had fans that look at it fondly. But the game's sales flopped so badly that the series as a whole went defunct for a few years until the reboot that is ''Ares''.
* DieForOurShip:
** Natsumi and Fuyuka can get this pretty badly from Aki fans who think she's "entitled" to Endou's affection for being his PatientChildhoodLoveInterest. [[spoiler: It got worse when ''GO'' revealed that Endou can marry Natsumi (Light) ''or'' Fuyuka (Dark), which means Aki is ''definitely'' the UnluckyChildhoodFriend for him.]]
** Rika is hated by the Ichinose/Aki shippers due to her crush on the former and it doesn't help that her clinginess and overall personality makes her annoying for them. But unlike the previous example, [[spoiler: [[ChildhoodFriendRomance they might have ended up together]] in Go and Rika isn't an obstacle anymore.]]
** Lalaya Obies for the Tenma/Tsurugi fans because [[spoiler:she kidnapped Tsurugi to serve her.]]
* DiscOneNuke:
** In ''GO'', some of the downloadable moves are disproportionately strong for how early in the game you can get them. In particular, it's possible to get Emperor Penguin 7 ''extremely'' early in the game [[note]] (download the dlc from the title menu, then buy the attic key for Tenma/Arion’s apartment from the shop right by the school store) [[/note]], at which point it's basically an automatic goal.
** The player with White King: [[note]] Ou-Sama (or Leroy Kingsley to use his English localized name) [[/note]] can be aquired very early if you know what you're doing [[note]](download data from wifi and go to the Kizunaku/Palpacker with male and only male players just outside the school store) [[/note]], long before you have access to most of the plot-relevant Fighting Spirits. And it's actually ''stronger'' than most of the spirits you get for a while. And White King's special ability boosts the odds of boys succeeding in duels, which, [[GameBreaker considering all your starting lineup (and pretty much 90% of the recruitable players) are male...]]
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** {{Fandom}} wise, [[EvilDuo Burn and Gazelle]] seem to be this. They have a massive amount of fanart and fanfiction, especially as a couple, despite only appearing a few times and being the only Aliea Gakuen captains that didn't appear in ''GO''. Their popularity seems to come from their contrasting personalities and how they merged their teams to create Chaos, making them one of the most popular ships and therefore some of the most popular characters.
** Nepper’s became a fan favorite in thanks to all his badass efforts and abilities in his match with Chaos against Raimon, despite appearing in only 2 episodes out of 127. More exactly, he's the only character who ever broke through [[spoiler:Aphrodi's "Heaven's Time".]]
** Many people have found a place in their hearts for the Orpheus because of their relevance to the story, their development and the likeness of its players in general. In particular the captain Fideo is loved for being one of the very few characters to be friendly to the Inazuma Japan from the beginning and also for being [[spoiler:the character that actually managed to convince Reiji to accept his father and to remind him of his love for soccer]]. Other than him, Nakata is also beloved for his role in all this, while Gigi and Angelo are also much beloved.
** Endou becomes this in ''GO''. Heck, the original cast in general has become this by ''GO'' because of the FromHeroToMentor role that they play in the series. That, and [[ShesAllGrownUp they've grown up]] [[HotterAndSexier good looking]].
* FanNickname:
** Enbro, Broenji, Kibro, Ichibrose... you get the point.
** One by the seiyuu themselves is Zenda (Fidio). Since he's like a complete Handa.
** Another unfortunate one invented by the seiyuu is Sakuma as Kidou's "goldfish poop".
* {{Fanon}}: It is near universally agreed-upon by fans that Kariya is the adopted child of Hiroto and Midorikawa.[[note]]Hiroto and Midorikawa's few appearances in GO have them always by each other's side, and the title "personal secretary" does sound a certain way, leaving fans to conclude that they're HappilyMarried. Then there's the fact that Kariya is stated to have come to Sun Garden as part of his FreudianExcuse but it's never mentioned what happened to him after that, and that [[https://i.ebayimg.com/images/a/(KGrHqZHJCQFDFCq1vvWBQ0e5DRvKQ~~/s-l1600.jpg official]] [[https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/PqgAAOxyUrZS2a0Y/s-l1600.jpg art]] suggests that he and Hiroto have some kind of affectionate mentor-student type relationship that is never really specified on. There's also an equally ambiguous cutscene in Shine where Hiroto and Midorikawa both scold Kariya for his lack of cooperation with his teammates (and Midorikawa implies Kariya is no longer at Sun Garden). And ''then'' there's the fact that in the Chrono Stone game, their best Mixi Max matches are with each other. [[OccamsRazor What other conclusion is there to draw?]] At last, one comic in the game ''Inazuma Eleven SD'' [[AscendedFanon confirms they are Kariya's guardian-likes.]][[/note]]
* FanonDiscontinuity: A lot of the fandom doesn't care for game canon because of how many different options available and a lack of "true story". Various things from the games they tend to disregard include [[spoiler: Kazemaru's beatdown, the Kogure/Haruna ship tease (they substitute it with the anime's Tachimukai/Haruna ship tease) and Endou marrying Fuyuka in GO (Dark).]]
* FanPreferredCouple:
** Endou and Aki, as opposed to the OfficialCouple formed by Endou and [[spoiler: either Natsumi or Fuyuka depending on adaptation]]. Though most of the fans got over it when they realized that [[spoiler: she has more of a chance with [[VictoriousChildhoodFriend Ichinose]].]]
** Some fans ship Natsumi more with Goenji rather than with [[spoiler: her eventual husband]] Endou.
* FirstInstallmentWins: The entire series (Which includes GO and the ''Ares'' continuity in it's entirety) still has problems overcoming the original series in terms of sales and fan reception as noted above in CriticalDissonance and ContestedSequel.
* FountainOfMemes: Everything Nosaka does becomes a meme. Sitting on a bench, talking to Akane, even smiling has reached people on the western and eastern hemisphere making memes about Nosaka. Everything becomes Memetic whenever he's involved.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:G-N]]
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: Specially in Spain and Italy. Both the TV show, which has become a new GatewaySeries for a new generation of kids, and the games, which are top sellers.
* GoddamnedBoss: Team Zeus in the first game. Before and after half-time, there are long, story-driven segments in which [[spoiler:the player must control Nelly as she infiltrates Zeus' locker room and sabotages their SuperSerum]]. Said cutscenes are unskippable, so the player will be forced to sit through them again if they fail to defeat the team in their first attempt.
* GoodBadBugs: In Inazuma Eleven GO, when the game's graphics engine decides what direction to draw a character facing, acceleration seems to take precedence over velocity. In most cases, this makes perfect sense.[[note]]for example, one would expect someone trying stop quickly to both face and accelerate in the opposite direction of his velocity vector.[[/note]] But with the SlippySlideyIceWorld physics of Snow Land Stadium, characters may be slowly decelerating due to skidding, meaning they should be facing the direction they're moving in but their acceleration vector is in the opposite direction. This causes characters to start ''moonwalking''. [[SugarWiki/FunnyMoments Even if they're simultaneously dribbling the ball.]]
* HarsherInHindsight:
** In episode 15 Kazemaru is accused by the others of quitting the soccer club to return to the athletics club. This moment becomes harsher when [[spoiler:he leaves the team for real in season 2 because he thought he wasn't strong enough. His teammates were right that it would happen, they just weren't right ''when''.]] What makes it worse is that Kurimatsu was the one who suspected him first and announced the others about this. So what does he do when his nightmare comes true? [[spoiler:He crosses the DespairEventHorizon and leaves the team as well, which isn't helped by the fact that the team was already falling apart.]]
** Endou's mom didn't want him to play soccer at first becaused believed that's what killed her father and she was afraid of happening the same to him. [[spoiler: In Chrono Stone, after Endou was captured, a time paradox happened where he was considered dead in a car accident in the current timeline, just like his grandfather was considered dead in the original series.]]
** In the original series, Hibiki was PutOnABus throughout the FFI due to [[spoiler:getting ill from a SoapOperaDisease that caused him chest pain]]. It gets harder to watch now that his original Japanese voice actor has passed away from esophagus cancer in February 2019, a disease whose symptoms include chest pain.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** In the first season of GO, a new power called Avatar is introduced and are said to be a player's fighting spirit given form- wait, [[Manga/JojosBizarreAdventure that sounds familiar]]...
*** To take it even further, a year after GO was first aired in 2011, Manga/JojosBizarreAdventure aired it's anime adaptation for the first time.
** In the original series, the characters face off against people who claim to be aliens, [[spoiler:but are not]]. In ''Galaxy'', the characters face off against [[spoiler:ACTUAL]] aliens.
* HoYay: EVERYWHERE. So much so that it even has its ''[[HoYay/InazumaEleven own page]]''.
* IKnewIt:
** TheReveal that Ishido Shuuji was actually [[spoiler: Gouenji Shuuya]]. The same seiyuus, the fact that [[spoiler: Gouenji's]] character design for GO wasn't out yet, and even several similar details they have.
* IncestYayShipping: In Japan, some fans shipped Kidou with Haruna. There's also the Fubuki twins which overlapped with {{Twincest}} at least when the original series is regarded.
* IronWoobie:
** Tenma. His dream school is under heavy jurisdiction of managed soccer right in the first day, he has to fight on to bring free soccer back, and that's not counting the events in Chrono Stone and GALAXY. [[TraumaCongaLine Yet even with these huge roller coaster of events]], [[ThePollyanna Tenma stays positive]].
** The entire Raimon team in both the original series and GO. Things may take a turn for worse as the series progresses but they still keep going.
** From "Chrono Stone", Yuuichi. Even as he disappears to make sure time is fixed, he is only hoping for Tsurugi to continue in his stead.
* JerkassWoobie:
** Fudou might be rude, arrogant and sometimes plays violently, but it's hard not to feel sorry for him after all he's been through. [[spoiler:His father had to quit his job due to being blamed for his boss' mistakes and pursued by debt collectors and eventually left Fudou alone with his mother, who told him to stay strong and not end up like his father, but unfortunately, he was convinced that becoming strong means that he has to literally get power in order to rise to the top, which is why he accepted the Aliea Meteorite and joined Shin Teikoku, only to be left behind again by Kageyama. When he joins Inazuma Japan, [[ReformedButRejected he's not accepted by the others at first]] due to his actions in season 2 and he continues to act like a jerk until he learns to work better with his teammates and finally be accepted. And ten years later in ''GO'', he's found sleeping on a bench, implying he's still poor and homeless]].
** [[spoiler:Kariya]], in ''GO''. [[spoiler:He was abandoned by his father and lose trust in people as a result]].
** Kogure to a lesser extent. He might be a BrattyHalfPint who always pulls (admittedly funny) pranks on the others, but he didn't deserve to be left by his mother at a train station and presumably be left without a family.
** Heck, even the BigBad of GO, [[spoiler: Senguuji Daigo]] is one. His methods of controlling soccer are brutal, but you can't help but admit that his childhood ''sucked''.
* LauncherOfAThousandShips:
** Endou has been shipped with basically any major character, both male and female. The most popular Endou ships seem to be with Gouenji, Kazemaru, Natsumi, Aki, and Fuyuka. There are also fans who jokingly ship him with [[CargoShip soccer itself]].
** Tenma is similarly shipped with most of the major characters from the ''GO'' series, as according to some characters he's an Endou's clone. He is usually shipped with Tsurugi, Aoi, Shinsuke, Midori, Taiyou, and Fei among others.
** All of the [[TheAce Inazuma All Stars]] could be considered this.
** Shindou, definitely. He's shipped with [[ThoseTwoGuys Kirino]], [[FanGirl Akane]], [[InferioritySuperiorityComplex Ibuki]], [[AllLovingHero Tenma]], [[spoiler: in the beginning]] [[FoeYayShipping Tsurugi]] and [[TimeTravelRomance Okatsu]], just to name the main ones.
* LoveToHate: Ichihoshi from "Orion no Kokuin" to some people. He is perhaps the most vile villain that the franchise ever come across second only to Kageyama in the original Inazuma Eleven. But these people love him just for that as he proves himself to be much more of a threat than the previous antagonist in the series. So it's a bit of a [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter sour point]] to several people that [[spoiler:he had a HeelFaceTurn so quick in ''Orion'']].
* MagnificentBastard:
** [[EvilMentor Ray Dark]] is the coach of the successful Royal Academy. Having a grudge against the Raimon Institute, Dark even tries to murder their team. After the Royal Academy rejects him, Dark coaches Zeus Junior High and uses [[SuperSerum ambrosia]] to enhance their skills, while remaining a formidable foe even without their drink. Later, Dark allies with the Ailea Academy to create the Royal Academy Redux, convincing the friends of Jude Sharp to join his team and use {{Forbidden Dangerous Technique}}s before confessing to Jude that he considers him to be his greatest work. Taking a new identity during the Football Frontier International, Dark tries to convince Jude to join him and becomes the coach of the Italian team Orpheus, paying for the operation of their ace's little sister. Eventually regretting his wrongdoing, Ray Dark cooperates with the police and is murdered by Garshield, [[FaceDeathWithDignity smiling at his own death]] in the anime. Resurrected and ordered to train the Earth Eleven for the Grand Celesta Galaxy tournament, [[SinkOrSwimMentor "Astero Black"]] selects untrained talents that are constantly tested and even manipulated to create a team that eventually saves Earth and the entire galaxy.
** ''Chrono Stone'': [[SuperSupremacist Simeon Ayp]] is the leader of Nu-Gen, an organization comprising Second Stage Children--powerful mutants with a low life expectancy--who rebel against societal mistreatment and their own mortality. Already having won when the story starts, Simeon counters El Dorado's attempts to erase football using TimeTravel by sending his lieutenant Fei Rune, [[MemoryGambit whose memories are altered]] to take advantage of the kind-hearted nature of the Raimon team. When the Raimon discovers the truth, Simeon breaks his ceasefire with El Dorado to destroy their headquarters and announce the Ragnarok Tournament to decide the fate of the world, planning to annihilate regular humans if he wins. During Ragnarok, Simeon awakens Fei's memories and tests his loyalty by making him score a goal against the Raimon yet also accepts Fei leaving Nu-Gen after that. In the match against the Chrono Stone team, Simeon uses diverse techniques to win the advantage, and despite his despair at realizing his own limitations, he remains DefiantToTheEnd alongside his friends, accepting his defeat as he promised and renouncing his powers.
* MemeticBadass:
** Endou becomes this as in episode 7 of ''GO''. [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kgUlH6kv5A He's like a boss.]]
** The internet claims that Gouenji is so badass that his badassery defies the universe itself.
* MemeticBystander: Masaru Gojou, midfielder for Teikoku, has never gotten a single line, is never even referred to by name (the only reason his name is even known is because the games [[CastOfSnowflakes have individual data for each and every one of the 1000+ characters, including a name and short bio]]), looks like he's in his 30s despite being a high schooler, and [[https://i.imgur.com/ImlJzID.png his face seems to be permanently frozen in one facial expression]] best described as "you might wanna draw your curtains." He won a popularity contest thanks to the meddling of [=2ch=]; it's a long story really. The creators noticed this and gave him an appearance in the GO movie (the only member from Teikoku sans the ones who joined Inazuma Japan to appear in GO at all) and a cameo in VideoGame/LBXLittleBattlersExperience.
* MemeticMutation:
** "''[[CatchPhrase SAKKA YAROUZE!]]''" -- The Internet's View Of Everything That Comes Out Of Endou's Mouth
** "WHAT THE HELL ARE THOSE NETS MADE OF?!" Because, seriously.
** "''[[SayMyName KAAAAGEEEYAAAMAAAAA!]]''" Quoted for Kidou's constant dramatic screaming of his name.
** Where the hell is the ref?! / What are they paying the refs for?!
** Summarizing the series as "little boys playing magical soccer".
** * Insert Sport Here* YAROUZE! Then drawing the characters from the show playing said sport.
** ''CAR ACCIDENT''[[labelnote:Explanation]]Many characters' loved ones died or have been critically injured from car, truck, and automobile accidents due partly too their . Not only have fans pointed this out memetically several times, Endou's kidnapping retconned to be dying in a car accident![[/labelnote]]
** Penguins![[labelnote:Explanation]]The Emperor Penguin hissatsu functions have become a meme in its entirety due to their absurdity and awesome actual effect of shooting penguins to score a goal, but the series' love for penguins has extended it to multiple fanart, a promotional crossover with Film/HappyFeet, and ''I lost to evolved penguins'' [[/labelnote]]
** Writing "soccer" as "SAKKA". This is often used for poking fun at how common it is to hear this word right out of the cast's mouth.
* {{Moe}}: Fubuki and Tachimukai from the original series. Shinsuke and Hikaru from ''GO''.
* MoralEventHorizon:
** Fuyukai crosses it when he tries to kill the kids in a bus accident by tampering with the bus that Raimon were going to take to the regional finals [[DirtyCoward just to save his own skin]]. Indirrectly, Kageyama crosses it as well, because he's the one who manipulated Fuyukai into doing something like this. If this can be overlooked, he definitely crosses it when he directly tries to crush Raimon to death with iron bars.
* NarmCharm: As said by a [=YouTube=] user:
--> "This storyline is so stupid, but in such a lovable way."
[[/folder]]

[[folder:P-W]]
* PeripheryDemographic: CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS [[YaoiFangirl FUJOSHI]] FODDER IS FOR BOYS?!! And then the first Ares episode to air has a ShowerScene with Haizaki and Kidou, seems like Level-5 embraced it.
* PlayerPunch: A non-lethal variant in the second game, when [[spoiler:Kazemaru is the victim of a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown that gets him [[PutOnABus Put On An Ambulance]].]]
* ScrappyMechanic:
** The scouting system in ''Inazuma Eleven 3'' is generally regarded as the worst version of the scouting system in the entire series due to not only [[ReplacementScrappy replacing]] ''Inazuma Eleven 2'''s version of the scouting system, which is widely regarded as the best version of the scouting system, but also due to implementing Gacha-style mechanics, forcing players to rely on luck in order to get the character they want. To make matters worse, not only will you sometimes end up getting an item instead of a player, so it isn't simply a matter of recruiting players non-stop until you get the one you want, but this version of the scouting system also has its own form of in-game currency, that being three types of coloured tokens (Red, Blue and Yellow) that you have to spend in order to use the capsule machines that you scout characters from, and every character is assigned a specific capsule machine and token colour, meaning that if you run out of the type of token you need in order to get the specific character you want, then you'll have to search/grind for more as the only ways to get these tokens are to either find them in treasure chests in the overworld, of which there are a limited amount, or get them as a [[RandomDrop random item drop]] from [[RandomEncounters random battle encounters]]. This system's only saving grace is that the Player Binder tells you which capsule machines you need to go to and which type of tokens you need to use in order to get the specific characters you want.
** The scouting system in the ''GO'' video games, while seen by many as a step up from ''3'''s, though not by much, as you once again have control over which characters you get, is widely criticised by fans for turning scouting into a tedious fetch quest in which you need to obtain items and sometimes multiple other characters for just one.
** When it comes to match-related mechanics, event flags in story matches are criticized for wasting precious match time, potentially costing players the match as a result, and [[GuideDangIt not always being clear about what they need to do]]. The ''GO'' games manage to [[AntiFrustrationFeatures mitigate]] this to an extent by putting match time on pause and sometimes even preventing the opposing team from scoring until the event is cleared, as well as providing players with clear instructions on what they need to do.
* ShipsThatPassInTheNight:
** Fudou/Fuyuka is the most popular hetero ship for both the characters and one of the most popular het ships fandom-wise even though they never interact even once throughout the entire series. The ships popularity might stem from their similar names, relationship with Coach Kudou and fondness for...bananas.
*** Another popular Fudou-related ship in Japan is shipping him with [[TheSmurfettePrinciple the only female Shin Teikoku player]], Takanashi Shinobu. Shinobu only appeared once as part of Shin Teikoku in the anime and barely interacted with Fudou by much, but Japanese fans thought the two look good together and in fanarts, are often shown having BelligerentSexualTension with each other.
** Max and Handa had little to no interaction on-screen, but the couple still has a fair share of fans. Sure, [[spoiler: their Dark Emperor versions]] had Revolution V, which is one of the gayest hissatsus, but [[spoiler: they weren't themselves back then.]]
* ThatOneBoss: [[ThatOneBoss/InazumaEleven Has its own page]].
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter:
** Several people feel this about Max, because he was never truly given a chance to shine. He was mostly OutOfFocus in season 1, then PutOnABus at the beginning of both season 2 and 3 along with four other guys (who may count as well, depending on who you ask). Especially in the latter case, because when it looked like he would be given a second chance by becoming a member of Inazuma Japan, it was blown up by him not qualifying in the end, despite showing that he has potential.
** Shadow has this even worse. He is the only member of Raimon who was never involved in the main plot, much to the disappointment of the people who would've liked to see more from him. First, unlike other characters introduced in season 2, he didn't join the Inazuma Caravan when he was given the chance because his hissatsu hadn't been ready yet. Like Max, his chance of becoming a member of Inazuma Japan was also blown up.
** A lot of people were disappointed when Midorikawa, after training hard to improve his abilities and keep his position on Inazuma Japan, had to be taken off the team [[HeroicRROD due to overexterting himself]] and never came back. He later sends a letter to Inazuma Japan about how he's been training hard in order to return to the team, but that never happened.
** Fubuki not showing up in the Inazuma Eleven Dream Match on either the Best Eleven or the Battle Eleven left fans scrtaching as he was the only member of the Inazuma All Stars not present in the match at all, especially with the possible interactions with similar characters in Fei and Hayato.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Tenma Matsukaze from ''Go'' got this from a handful of people, especially in the western community. Many people find his trait of speaking about soccer like it's a person to be very annoying and childish, rather then cute and innocent like it's supposed to come off as. Incidentally, the characters in the show and the game make fun of Tenma for this exact reason.
* UnpopularPopularCharacter: Fudou Akio is disliked by his Inazuma Japan teammates, especially in the beginning when he still had his old sadistic personality back when he was a villain, but is nevertheless one of the most popular characters in the fanbase.
* ValuesDissonance:
** Mamoru and co. are startled when they discover that Tsunami is one year older than them, and look genuinely frightened that they might have offended him by addressing him so informally. To Western audiences, this will seem like a highly exaggerated reaction.
* ViewerGenderConfusion:
** Several fans have mistaken Afuro (Aphrodite in the English dub) for a girl, due to his androgynous appearance, long and delicate hair, and the fact he is named after the Greek goddess of love and beauty.
** Kirino Ranmaru from GO. It's impossible to tell he's a boy unless you've either played the game or noticed that the sub (or even dub) mentions Kirino as a "he", in fact he's so feminine to the point that some people have actually accused him of being a crossdresser.
** [[Literature/RomanceOfTheThreeKingdoms Zhuge Liang]] turns out to actually be a girl...
* VindicatedByHistory: Due to ContestedSequel regarding ''Ares'' and ''Orion'' in general, many of the older fans who once saw ''GO'' unfavorably started to see the ''GO'' series in a much better light as a result and remember that for all it's faults, ''GO'' had a great story and at least captured a part of the charm to why these very fans got into Inazuma Eleven in the first place. Not to mention, the animation and the Anime adaptation's story pacing for ''GO'' is considered much more well done than ''Ares'' and ''Orion''.
* TheWoobie: Everyone has at least one moment of this.
** Fubuki from the first series spends a very long time struggling over his SplitPersonality disorder.
** Taiyou is terminally ill and yet still loves soccer and is on the receiving end of a major CurbStompBattle from Raimon.
** From the ''GO'' movie there's Shuu, [[spoiler: whose little sister got used as a HumanSacrifice thanks to losing a soccer game and blames himself for it]].
* {{Woolseyism}}:
** Though the dubbed character names are honestly laughable, the localisations of the games themselves aren't half bad. One notable instance is in the first game, where Zeus's [[SuperSerum Aqua of the Gods]] is changed to "ambrosia", which both rolls off the tongue a lot better and fits quite nicely into the Myth/GreekMythology theme of the team.
** One case where a DubNameChange actually fits: Shuu gets given a vaguely {{Mayincatec}} name, which makes sense when you learn his backstory, as [[spoiler: using ball games to determine [[HumanSacrifice Human Sacrifices]] was TruthInTelevision for those cultures]].
