* CommonKnowledge: While it's gotten better over the years with quality control, inaccurate information added by users who didn't bother to do the proper research is still a bit of a problem, especially since it's considered so authoritative. The main issues are flatly-wrong Trivia items, and people deciding that extras and bit-part performers are actually well-known people based solely on a slight resemblance (like Creator/MegRyan, a high school student in Connecticut at the time, allegedly being in a library scene in ''Film/SomewhereInTime'' that was shot in Chicago, when the young woman in question has her back to the camera anyway).
* ItsPopularNowItSucks: Majority of the "One Star Reviews" of many popular movies heavily featured in the top 250 will consist of people complaining about how highly regarded the movie in question is. '''Especially''' ''Film/TheShawshankRedemption'' and ''Film/TheGodfather''.
* PraisingShowsYouDontWatch: When a highly anticipated movie is about to come out, several people would rate the film with a 10 before its official release, whether or not the movie ends up being good or bad.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: The understandable reaction most people had upon the removal of message boards in February 2017. Many felt that the removal was pointless and that the boards allowed people to share information or freely discuss their favorite titles or people with each other.
** For a time starting in December 2017, company pages were only accessible to Pro users. While non-Pro users can once again view company pages, they've changed their format from before. Now, they only list if the company worked on a production, but don't list their specific role (such as "post-production facilities"). To view that, you have to click into the entry and then into the companies sub-page. Also, they're sorted by Popularity by default, which is not very helpful; if you want to view by alphabetical or by newest to oldest, it's an extra step.
** The site was criticized in October 2019 for not only changing the layout of Box Office Mojo (a site they acquired in 2008), but also for putting a lot of information behind a paywall. The changes were partially reverted in March 2020.
** The site removed another popular feature in March 2023, that being the ability to break down a movie's user rating by demographic (age group, gender). Long-time users were not happy about this change, since it was one of the major advantages that [=IMDb=] continued to have over its competitors, such as Website/{{Letterboxd}}.
* VocalMinority: If one judged the popularity of a movie solely by its [=IMDb=] rating and/or comments section, they would believe that most well-regarded movies and TV series are widely despised.
