!In Ground Control

* GameBreaker: Artillery cannons have a very long range, way beyond harm's way and are insanely powerful. The only thing they need is anti-air support.
* IronWoobie: Sarah Parker. Throughout both the first game and ''Dark Conspiracy'' she has to suffer massive setbacks, losses of her troops to things beyond her control, and nearly every ally sans Deacon Stone and the Phoenix Mercenaries betraying her. And at the end of the ExpansionPack, it's revealed that she has essentially been an UnwittingPawn for the ones behind the scenes all along. ''Damn.''
* MoralEventHorizon: Major Thomas destroying the medical facility whose occupants already waved a white flag at the beginning of battle.

* BreatherLevel: Missions 21 and 22 introduce the final arc of the game.
* FridgeHorror: If the entire population of Morningstar Prime (aside the military and the Virons) manages to fit onto the ''Astrid'' in the finale, ''just how many people have been killed'' by the Terrans during this war?
* GoddamnedBats: Artillery units in this game, while much less powerful than in the first game, are ''extremely'' annoying to fight here. You either have to keep your forces on the move, or have to spam shield units and bunker down until you take the offending artillery out with something else. Not to mention the enemy player can actually exploit this and send in a swarm of helidynes in while more than half your anti-aircraft units are busy shielding. Imperial Howitzers are particularly despised for their range, movement speed, and fire rate.
* SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound: "We secured a landing zone!/LZ secured!" and "We captured a victory location!"
* {{Sequelitis}}: Fans of the first game aren't too fond of GCII removing squads, reducing risks through the addition of reinforcements, simplifying the story and reducing the landscape's effects on the gameplay.
* ThatOneLevel: Several missions stand out as being harder than the others. Missions 23, 24, and Viron Campaign are particularly murderous.
