* AccidentalInnuendo: ''(Junior holding up his father's journal)'' "Now comes the best part. This book also happens to be the family album!" [[https://www.snafu-comics.com/grimtales/photo-album The first picture is his mom lying on a bed in her underwear]].
* SugarWiki/AwesomeArt: Bleedman's detailed and complex artwork tends to be one of the few positive things ([[BrokenBase most]]) people can agree on about the comic.
* CommonKnowledge: A lot of people, even on Website/ThisVeryWiki, seem to be under the assumption that Drax from ''After Birth'' is Dexter from ''Webcomic/PowerpuffGirlsDoujinshi'' after a FaceHeelTurn (possibly caused by the grief of [[spoiler: losing Blossom]]); however, [[https://storygirl000.deviantart.com/art/Not-your-everyday-Valentine-154889268 this picture]] Bleedman put out, along with several other factors (like the fact that he claims to have [[spoiler:killed Dee Dee]], when in ''PPGD'' [[spoiler:her death was the result of a HeroicSacrifice]]), seem to confirm that he's actually Dexter's counterpart from [[MirrorUniverse the Powerpunk Girls' world]].
* ContestedSequel: ''After Birth'' isn't even out yet (and may not be for some time to come), but already some have voiced their immense dislike of it simply stemming from the rumours surrounding problems in its production. The comic is completed but has hit a final snag with publishing. Many feel that the sequel's high ambitions is enough reason for it to suck.
%%* Crazy Awesome: When Mimi [[spoiler: betrays her father]], she throws a ''kettle''. At his ''face''.
* CreatorsPet:
** It seems like hardly anyone can stop themselves from telling Junior and thus the audience how great Minnie is, at least when she's onstage. Mostly in the earlier chapters; later they're more likely to talk about how powerful she is instead. Both kinds get very tiresome. Possibly inverted as the author's plan all along was to [[spoiler:kill her in her first actual battle.]]
** Come Chapter 8, we have Chi, the [[HilariousInHindsight daughter of Aku]] who was a breath of fresh air for the readers at first due to her plan to [[spoiler: bust Mimi out of Castle Grim, not to mention being hinted for a very long time to be Blossom's reincarnation which explains her infatuation with Mimi.]] Sadly, due to an infamous {{filler}} 11-page segment that ran from late May 2016 to late September 2016, a total of 4 months which in webcomic time is practically an eternity while at the same time [[SpotlightStealingSquad making up a majority of the filler pages whenever she appears later on.]] Combine that with the fact that the comic goes by a page-by-page update, the entire plot was reduced to a snail's pace.
* CryForTheDevil: Considering whatever Mandy did to Mimi, it's hard not to. [[spoiler:Namely, she tricks Mimi into using Horror's Hand, which shows her her worst nightmare. For Mimi, it's being forced to relive the day everyone she cared about, sans her mother and Jeff, died, and she was permanently ripped away from her mother Blossom in the process.]]
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Empheles, [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter short lived as his role was]], was very memorable for just how cool and efficient he was. Helps that he's far from a horrible person as well.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Let's have a quick summary of the first 6 chapters of the comic: Our main hero is the GrimReaper who has a severe case of sibling issues with a LovecraftianSuperpower that he had to constantly wrestle for control and fight. Said sibling is {{Yandere}} for him and has a massive case of IJustWantToBeSpecial. The BigBad is a CardCarryingVillain god and The BigGood never offer much help. A poorly written fanfic or the ThemeParkVersion of ''VideoGame/BlazBlue''? The comic started in ''2004.'' ''VideoGame/BlazBlueCalamityTrigger'' would debut four years later.
** This webcomic features Chi, the daughter of Aku. Years later, when ''WesternAnimation/SamuraiJack'' was renewed for a fifth season, a major part of the new plotline was that Jack is tracked down by the seven daughters of Aku.
*** Likewise brought back Demongo as a severed head to serve Chi. In the fifth episode of season five, it's revealed Demongo is still alive.
*** Also Aku in here is pretty much as apathetic/depressed in here as he was shown in Season 5, though for a [[AntagonistInMourning different reason]]. Inversely, Season 5 has Jack being [[TheAgeless immortal]] due to time travel. The second reason both of them stay low was because they were worried about his sword, [[spoiler: [[LockedOutOfTheLoop not knowing that something happened to it]] that would make them jump right back into action upon finding out. In Season 5, it was being lost while in Grim Tales, it got turned into an UnholyHolySword.]]
* JerkassWoobie: Junior. He later turns into regular woobie after his HeelRealization, coming to terms with the fact that he caused a lot of trouble and that his sister died for his actions and is now [[spoiler: trying to kill him for helping a friend instead of spending time with her.]]
* {{Narm}}: Early in the comic, Mandy cuts her own throat. It's presented for drama... but it's a flashback, so we ''all'' know it didn't stick. (The next page has Grim inform her she won't die until he feels like it.) It comes across as a drastic attempt to milk emotional response.
* NightmareFuel: When not out and out scary, [[FridgeHorror the comic gets more and more creepy]] as it goes along.
* OvershadowedByControversy: The flashback depicting Mandy perpetrating the September 11th attacks, as well as Bleedman's hostile responses to the criticism this attracted, [[note]]The chapter that had this particular flashback was released only a few years after the attacks, so it was still fresh in a lot of people's minds at the time.[[/note]] is the reason most people have ever even heard of this comic.
* {{Squick}}: Junior's birth (read: abortion) explained in extremely graphic detail.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: How do so many great characters get killed off without even getting some good development?
* TooBleakStoppedCaring: There's not really any character that can be defined as TheHero or all that heroic of the comic. [[spoiler:The few that ''were'' heroic are either long dead, like Blossom, Raven, Irwin, and Hoss, are regularly put through the wringer, like Junior and Jeff, or have been broken beyond belief, like Mimi. Even characters like Minnie, who started off kind and sweet, get twisted and become more evil as the series goes on.]]
