* {{Adorkable}}: Navarre, despite being a general of an army and is a powerful companion that accompanies you during the Final Pursuit storyline quest, is actually pretty dorky as he makes some extra comments about wanting to plant flowers beside the barracks and complains about the food he gets.
* {{Altitis}}: This is outright encouraged and practically mandatory due to how progression works. Because there are hard caps on how much a single character can accomplish per day, it is common for players to create multiple characters to function as alts to funnel materials and Gold into at least one or more main characters as progression time-gating is on a per-character basis (which also conveniently skirts around Korean gaming restriction laws). The Explorer Club also serves to encourage creating a ton of alt characters as it exists to aggregate the total progress you've made across every character on your entire account and grant substantial boons for doing so.
* AntiClimaxBoss: Before the Metastasis came into the picture, Gangling Lotus was this. One of the "Apostles" (the thirteen strongest beings in the world), who is responsible for enslaving the entire GBL order (who interestingly continue serving him after his demise), is trapped in a statue and barely attacks. This is justified, Lotus was extremely weakened prior to his boss fight. However, post-Metastasis, this has been averted.
** See his redesign [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5LLskH3UUI here]]
** Almost all of the stationary bosses are easy to defeat.
* AmericansHateTingle: In a [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/c4d085/kdnf_userdirector_meeting_of_2019_summary/ translated interview]], it was revealed that the Korean version, somewhere along the way, gained a reputation as a game for "the mentally ill, weeb, and losers". The game's director believes that this is a case of ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontWatch - however, Korean players have scorned the game in the past for being extremely grindy even by Korean MMO standards, especially prior to the level 95 cap update. The 95 cap update itself still didn't help the game's reputation, with Korean sentiment shifting over to calling DFO a "homework game", criticizing how the RNG gearing was dumped in favor of FakeLongevity in the form of dailies that time-gated endgame gear for several months.
* [[Awesome/VideoGameLevels Awesome Levels]]:
** Final Pursuit. From a storyline perspective, the Kartels have mainly been on the offensive and pushing Ghent into a corner until the dungeon fighters came along. The dungeon is a DecisiveBattle to finally push the Kartel out of Ghent, and the dungeon does everything to make you feel like it is, with APCs (automated player characters) reinforcing you throughout the dungeon, the enemies showing fear for you (as opposed to what some said in the earlier dungeons), [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlD1u-EDx_g this]] awesome piece of music playing throughout the dungeon up to the boss room, and a HumongousMecha as the boss.
** Mount Hardt Showdown possibly tops Final Pursuit. Not only do you get three of the best APCs from Final Pursuit plus Sandstorm Varracht helping you, but you can watch as some of the most annoying minibosses from the previous dungeons get either shreded by the APCs or nuked to death. Also, the same HumongousMecha from the previous dungeon is the boss again, but this time, if you make it through the dungeon fast enough, you can battle it with one of your own.
** S2 turns certain questline finales into this as final battles against Lotus and the Death dragons you'll have 2-4 of the legendary blade masters as allies, lending weight and epicness to the battles. Only downside is that your ranking will suffer.

** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Psn6p6xSqcU Fight Club's boss theme]]. A FantasyKitchenSink game like this would be the ''last'' place one would expect TrapMusic, but it somehow works wonders, especially when the setting its paired with is a cage fight with a scumbag like Ricardo.
** The [=DFO=] 4th Anniversary event brought with it two [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Izq9PKwm6bc dance]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X_sQ0h_D9aY club]] sets running for almost 15 minutes straight, to ''really nail'' the feeling of being at Harlem's Royal Casino. 28** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4308kbpd-m4 Prey-Isys's theme]] is amazingly suspenseful, with violins, drums and omnious choir giving a great sense of foreboding. Fitting for the dark side of the only being to match Cain the Fatality.

** Sirocco Raid:
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xwn30QCQqk The Gatekeeper's theme]], the very first song heard in the raid, is a somber alternative rock track with that gives the spotlight to different instruments as part of its VariableMix. Although only one part of is heard during the actual raid, the whole track itself is worth a listen.
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRQRiUuqoMA Sirocco's theme]] is a haunting piece that combines OminousLatinChanting with a OneWomanWail, fitting for the FinalBoss of the raid.
* BaseBreakingCharacter: The Knight class, fans are divided if she is a character with a unique subclass system and gameplay or PurposefullyOverpowered with a design that incorporates too much {{Fanservice}} that looks rather out of place or [[FetishRetardant disgusting]]. Korea in general seems to dislike her, since she was released during the time when people were looking forward to another class being released after they had been waiting for it for a long time. Oddly enough, she was hated on arrival on the global version as well, having replaced the hotly anticipated Female Slayer release. Neople interpreted the [[MemeticMutation DREAM4U spamming on the forums]] as legitimate demand for the character, which irked a lot of players.
* BetterOffSold: You collect all sorts of neat collectibles, but they're all either used for some quest or have other purposes, like ingredients for recipes. However, that useless equipment you can't even wear or is inferior to what you're using now? Sell it. Or disassemble it for more ingredients.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment:
** With no context whatsoever, the [[http://www.dfoneople.com/news/events/Adventurer-Maker Adventurer Maker event]] might seem like an overly simplistic ShoutOut or [[AffectionateParody parody]] of [[RaisingSim Raising Sims]] like [[{{VideoGame/PrincessMaker}} Princess Maker]]. In the grand scheme of [=DFOG=] events, however, it just seems [[QuirkyWork really weird]], totally out of left field, and might leave some players wondering what the hell Neople's staff members were thinking about when designing the event.
** If the Jane Doe event in [[NightmareFuel/DungeonFighterOnline the Nightmare Fuel page]] didn't scare you, it probably left you scratching your head, wondering why such an event ran in the middle of summer rather than around Halloween.
** The [[https://www.dfoneople.com/news/events/997/A-Dream-of-Romantic-Adventures?page=1 Dream of Romantic Adventures]] event thoroughly confused everyone for being a DatingSim event that came right out of nowhere. It doesn't help that the event started nearly three months ''after'' Valentine's Day, making its existence make even less sense.
* BrokenBase:
** The return of Fatigue Points in Neople's revival of ''Dungeon Fighter Online Global''. Supporters argue that FP helps stabilize the economy over Blitz Points, while detractors dislike the AntiPoopSocking aspect of it. {{T|akeAThirdOption}}hen there's the group of people who have realized FP is designed specifically for a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_gaming_in_South_Korea Korean video gaming culture]] - PC cafes and gaming addiction laws. On the other hand, Neople is pretty good at keeping this issue at bay with a Western audience by giving truckloads of free FP replenishing items in events and free NeoPremium Plus days (a subscription service under normal circumstances) that more than double the daily FP limit. And if that somehow isn't enough, players can buy FP potions of varying effectiveness with mileage, a reward point system that's accumulated through real money, or more importantly, simply playing the game.
** [[http://dfcentral.com/2015/04/08/dnf-game-update-49/ News of Korea]] [[https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/91cd0a80b27bb99e18e7891a424c9ddc.png slimming down the female Fighter's sprite]] ([[http://i.imgur.com/IS6aNXF.jpg most noticeable with the arms and legs]]) added another small schism to parts of the fanbase. People are split between those who hate the idea of it since it makes her look more typical and less unique, as well as because it makes her lose some of her unique appeal, while others either don't care for it or welcome the change.
** The fact that Neople restricted Auction Hall usage to characters Level 50+ and only kept it open on weekends as a temporary countermeasure to fight gold selling bots essentially split the playerbase into two factions: those who support everything Neople does to keep the game running, and those who are upset that they would use extreme measures and restrict an incredibly useful and integral part of the game because they don't have a better plan yet. Currently the Auction Hall is unavailable to characters below level 30, but to compensate, all magic-sealed equipment in dungeons below that level is dropped in box form, which allows you to pick your preferred kind of weapon, armor and accessory from them, lessing the need for the Auction Hall at lower levels.
*** These days the equipment issue is settled by epic quests giving you equipment of that level at certain points in an area's quest line.
** The [=NeoPremium=] contract caused a major backlash when it was initially announced due to its exorbitant price: while most other MMO games have a monthly subscription fee of around 10-20 dollars per month, the Plus version was initially priced at a massive 42 dollars a month. The logic behind the price was that it was mainly aimed for players who wanted to do as many Otherverse runs as possible per day, and from that point of view, the contract was a noticeably better deal than buying an equal amount of Otherverse resets: however, most people don't want to spend that much time running Otherverse, the price of resets can easily be thought to be artificially inflated and there's no option to buy the contract and opt out of the daily items including the Otherverse resets, which make up for most of the price. Thankfully, the price of the contract was quickly dropped to a more competitive and sensible 15 dollars per month for the basic version and 30 dollars for the Plus version, the amount of extra FP for both contracts was increased and one-time 3- and 7-day trial versions of the Plus contract were made buyable with ingame gold. They're often rewards for various events as well and a vending machine that can be operated with tokens that drop randomly from enemies when Premium is active was also added that gives various Cera items as prizes, including Premium extensions, making the contract more or less of a permanent feature if you play the game regularily enough.
** DFO Global's 2nd anniversary events caused a lot of uproar, mostly due to the fact that Neople's EXSTREAM announced the week before said events that they were going to be "[[HopeSpot better than last year]]"... then the [[http://www.dfoneople.com/news/events/view/DFO-2nd-Anniversary events]] actually dropped, and turned out to be decidedly lackluster compared to [[http://www.dfoneople.com/news/updates/FirstAnniversary the 1st anniversary]][[labelnote:note]]Scroll to the bottom of the page for the events.[[/labelnote]], giving nowhere near as many rewards. People's reactions were mixed, to say the least:
*** Long-time [[AllegedlyFreeGame whales]] have declared the game dead and started boycotting CERA purchases after the BlatantLies about the quality of the events.
*** "BETTER THAN LAST YEAR" started [[MemeticMutation getting spammed]] almost immediately after the announcement to highlight the irony of the statement. It has effectively become the response to anything questionable since then.
*** Some other people think everyone who's complaining about the 2nd anniversary is acting [[EntitledBastard way too entitled]] and expecting too many free things.
*** Others were quick to point out that if DFO Global was still under Nexon of America's management, there probably wouldn't even ''be'' anniversary events to begin with, often citing the fact that Nexon DFO's final event was a Halloween event that lasted until ''May of the following year'', and thus should be grateful DFO Global is still getting events at all.
*** [[OverlyLongGag Others still]] believe that the complaints were unjustified, considering that events have been steadily giving out less and less useful items over the past year, and that the player base [[FailedASpotCheck should've seen a bad 2nd anniversary event coming]]. Some looking into revealed that the first anniversary event for DFOG was based on kDnF's 10th anniversary.
*** Finally, there's everyone else who are (rightfully) disappointed, but [[OnlySaneMan otherwise not on either extreme of the argument]].
*** To complicate matters further, DFO Global's community manager and community advisors at the time were telling Neople [[https://dfonexus.com/posts/383255/ not to run the 2nd anniversary events]] to avoid backlash (amongst other oft-repeated, more general complaints), but instead [[IgnoredEpiphany got ignored]], [[ExecutiveMeddling questioned the advisors' reasons, then ran the events anyway]].
*** Most of the anger over this has faded, though might flare up depending on how the third anniversary goes.
** DFO Global is currently the only version of Dungeon & Fighter where normal avatars are notably ''not'' tradeable, made all the more glaring that the mostly lampooned {{Nexon}} version of DFO ''had'' tradeable avatars. Players have speculated that this is to drive avatar sales - understandable, as DFO Global has the smallest population out of all the versions, making it harder to turn a profit - but it's still a sore point for many. Others have suggested that Neople would make more from generous players if they would just enable the permanently disabled "Gift..." button in the avatar shop. In any case, Neople made it clear what their stance on the matter was when they swiftly deleted [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/78mkcp/rip_tradeable_avatars_in_dfog_oct_24_2017oct_25/ a set of tradeable avatars]] that weren't supposed to be in the game. [[AuthorsSavingThrow However, in early 2018, avatar packages started getting released with tradeable avatars, reversing this long-standing decision.]] [[WordOfGod MJ]] cited technical issues as to why only avatars released after a certain date are tradeable, but he hopes to convince the rest of the development team to make older avatars also tradeable.
** Pretty much every time a new class gets announced, there's sure to be criticism from a lot of people asking why Neople is wasting their time designing yet another DPS class rather than expanding upon the few endgame activities the game has to offer. Doubly so if the new class is weak or comes with its own new weapon types (see "REMOVE LANCER" in MemeticMutation below). The Gunblader class is already getting this treatment from Korean players as it partially recycles Lancer animations and uses its own version of a gun and sword rather than any existing weapon types that Gunners and Slayers use.
** There was some rather nasty fallout from the 2017 winter holiday event bug being removed in part due to the backlash the buff got from how it via a bug caused an event dungeon boss to drop epic items far more often. This resulted in a few groups: one of the original complainers (who by having spent all their event dungeon invites couldn't take advantage of it), people who were upset at the ruined boost to epics (often derided by the first group) and people who were looking forward to the buff for other reasons (easier/faster leveling/item farming). Only time will tell if it fully settles.
** In the Korean version, the [[NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast Beast Dungeon]] is this for being more of a hard gear check than even Luke raid. One player in particular, [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/7p97e6/kdnf_192018_first_server_update_beast_dungeon/dshemgw/ BJ Dangeun]], called out the lead designers of the game in a livestream after failing to do any significant damage with a team of four highly geared players, telling them to "actually try playing the game like the rest of us". The main point of contention was the fact that the final phase was a TimedMission that basically was impossible to do no matter what the party's gear level was. Given that the initial release of Beast had the client [[GameBreakingBug actually crash]] if the final boss was killed, its difficulty was likely intentional. After several reworks, Beast is more of a gear check, observation game, and a test of how coordinated a team of 4 can be, with the much reviled time limit being nowhere in sight.
** The introduction of "package bonuses" in ''DFO Global'' sometime in late 2017/early 2018 has constantly been met with derision from most players. The bonuses entail buying up to 10 avatar packages (almost always priced at around US$30 each) for [[BribingYourWayToVictory increasingly useful items]] exclusively to these buyers, or otherwise excessively costly in gold to non-paying players due to their rarity. This came to a head with the November 2018 [[https://www.dfoneople.com/news/sales/The-White-Beast White Beast package]], which not only had a standard pet that was [[RandomNumberGod no longer of the player's choice]] (possibly encouraging more package sales), but the bonus for ten purchased packages was a pet with a hefty damage increase for its pet skill, which was available in the past as an event pet. Not only that, but these bonuses could be obtained ''twice'' (for a total of ''twenty'' packages). Unsurprisingly, players were less than pleased at this sudden, but not wholly unexpected, change of business model, and many took it as a sign that ''DFO Global'' is dying and Neople/Nexon are trying to [[MoneyDearBoy wring out as much cash as they can]] before that happens. The randomized standard pet was a particular sore point for some people, seeing as it came almost right after [[AuthorsSavingThrow the MIKUMIKU package]].
** The unannounced removal of the 7 day [=NeoPremium=] trial from the [=NeoPremium=] Token slot machine in November 2018 was, for the most part, not very well received. Most people relied on these 7 day trials to extend their [=NeoPremium=] duration (to the point where hardcore players could be sitting on several months' worth stashed in their safe) as the average player thinks the [=NeoPremium=] subscription price is ''still'' too high for the benefits it gives (it hasn't changed since its inception). On the other hand, there's a smaller camp that believes the rate at which these trial items dropped from the slot machine was a little ridiculous (see: aforementioned hardcore players), but still agree that the change should've been less drastic than complete removal, such as a shorter trial period per item (1 or 3 days), or a change in the trial item's drop rate. Neople's [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/9wy3c4/neoples_stance_on_vending_machine_neoprem/ official stance on the matter]] doesn't really help matters, as it basically boils down to "because bots", which many saw as a weak excuse.
** [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/a8yunc/why_have_people_lost_faith_in_kdnf/ A video]] (in Korean - translation in the comments) details why the original version of ''Dungeon & Fighter'' seems to be in dire straits. In a nutshell, Kiri's Promise[[labelnote:*]]a variant of the reinforcement protection ticket which [[BribingYourWayToVictory keeps the reinforcement level]] on a failure that would've broken the equipment instead of resetting it to +0[[/labelnote]], the aforementioned Beast debacle (paired with Nexon's inaction on banning players macroing through Beast), and a laser focus on mobile gaming at the expense of level 95 cap content (despite several mobile ''[=DnF=]'' spinoffs ''outright failing'') made Korean players' expectations waver quite a bit. To add insult to injury, 2018's [=DnF=] Winter Festival spent only about a fourth of the eight hour presentation talking about new level 95 content, while the rest of it was about DPL[[labelnote:*]][[https://www.dfoneople.com/news/events/1005/DFO-Premier-League-2018?page=1 DFO Premier League]], a speedrunning event where, naturally, the ones that paid to win the most have the best chance of winning - Kiri's Promise abusers included[[/labelnote]] and yet another mobile game spinoff. The only thing that got ''any'' reaction from the mostly silent audience was the reveal of ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RG8Y254L5Q Project BBQ]]'', a 3D SpiritualSuccessor. Not even the reveal of two veteran classes getting [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WuLbHINq58&feature=youtu.be their own]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPjAZA1RTo4&feature=youtu.be fifth subclasses]] did anything for the audience - in fact, those official trailers are about one-thirds ''dislikes'' on Website/YouTube.
** Sometime in September 2020, it was [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/ipvhnl/kdnf_gm_super_account_issue/ discovered]] that a GM on the Korean version of the game was abusing development tools to spawn best-in-slot gear upgraded to whale-tier heights not only to use himself, but also to sell illegally to other people. On the one hand, some people think the GM's impending lawsuit by Neople for this incident is a justified punishment. On the other hand, some hardcore players somewhat sympathized with the fact that the GM gave himself best-in-slot gear, since obtaining it legitimately is excessively hard even for whales due to the game's brutal RandomNumberGod mechanics for Epic-dropping dungeons and gear upgrade systems. There are also those that outright wish for ''DFO Global'' to have a similar scandal simply to obtain all of the [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/iust0b/holy_the_super_account_problem_update_insane/ apology items]] the Korean version gave out, not realizing that the scandal will slow down development of far more than just [=KDnF=]. The latter group [[BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor did ultimately get their wish somewhat]] with the reveal that [[https://www.dfoneople.com/news/notices/3559/A-Message-from-Live-Director-Jong a Neople employee had used admin privileges in DFO Global to generate items worth over 7,000,000,000,000 Gold, forcing the previous Global director to step down]] and resulting in the distribution of a similarly hefty compensation package consisting of several extremely valuable paid items.
** The 5th female Slayer's subclass teaser at Dungeon and Fighter Festival 2020 was this. There's the people who are excited for the class, people who think she's an uninspired genderbent version of Secret Agent, and people who are mad because yet another subclass was announced while the game's balance was still in limbo (the Epic/Mythic rework didn't happen yet and not all Neo: Awakenings were out at the time). Come [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/o11hcy/female_slayers_5th_class/ the actual subclass's trailer]], and things got worse - there were still people that were excited for the class, but her generally mundane gameplay in comparison to the other female Slayers (along with her style of dress) just cemented the Secret Agent comparisons further, while the people mad about the lack of balance changes downvote-bombed the video, since an underwhelming balance patch that amounted to a few minor-to-unhelpful numbers tweaks came out not even a month prior to the trailer.
* BreakoutCharacter: Berserker and Vagabond in the Chinese version. The Berserker subclass is one of the more popular ones in the game, mainly for his ability to perform well even in horrendous lag (especially in PlayerVersusPlayer settings) thanks to his incredibly large area of effect attacks. The Vagabond, on the other hand, is popular for thematic rather than gameplay reasons since she's an [[ActionGirl Action]] AnimeChineseGirl. Unsurprisingly, both the male and female Slayer base classes were the first ones to receive third Awakenings, with the Berserker specifically getting an announcement for his from the Chinese version first rather than the Korean one.
* BreatherLevel:
** The Iced Wall of Resignation dungeons are much easier than most of the other post-Metastasis dungeons. The main gimmick of the dungeons is that they're based on the pre-Metastasis dungeon areas with occasional out of place enemies thrown in (ex. Dark Elves in the middle of the Grand Flores dungeon, Zombies in the middle of the Mt. Thunderime dungeon, etc.). However, all the pre-Metastasis enemies are much less dangerous than the post-Metastasis enemies. Lampshaded by the game -- a mid-to-late quest in the area involves you discouraging other Dungeon Fighters from getting involved. How do you do this? Gather a bunch of Madness Bandit badges in order to convince them there's nothing more interesting in there than some wimpy enemies that aren't worth their time.
** Vilmark -- Area 50. While largely the same as its predecessor, it's been vastly toned down in difficulty to match its much lower access level, allowing many same-level characters to simply brute-force it instead of sticking to the strategy required for the original, which very well qualified for ThatOneLevel. Nowadays, it serves as a buffer between the Death Dragon mini-arc and the Emperyan arc and fills out a few remaining plot details. However, the real version, and the Requiem mode version are level cap dungeons and very much pose a challenge to end-game players (especially the Requiem mode version).
** Side story versions of other ancient dungeons serve as this as their difficulty never exceeds a certain point.
** The Bloody Lane special dungeon in the Metro center area serves as this both plot and gameplay wise after the other dungeons as despite the name, it's merely some of the residents messing with a rail system.
* ComplacentGamingSyndrome:
** Gunner Classes. Just try to beat a competent Ranger or Mechanic in PVP.
** Prior to re-balancing, M. Brawlers would often resort to spamming Needle skills due to the high amounts of Poison Resistance in endgame dungeons that effectively made most of their good skills [[UselessUsefulSpell utterly worthless.]]
** Crusaders of both genders in raid-level content, mostly for the fact that the two classes are the only [[CombatMedic healers]] and [[StatusBuff buffers]]. Despite Neople's efforts to make them less prominent in raids, the male and female Crusader still manage to hit the first and second spots, respectively, on most players' [[CharacterTiers tier lists]].
** For similar reasons, classes that are effective at debuffing the enemy's defense such as Soul Bender and Mistress often follow closely behind the Crusaders on most tier lists.
** In Anton raid, the "4 leg" and "ck" (counter kill) strategies are this. Instead of doing phase 1 the normal way with a 20 man team, the process can be sped up immensely with only a 16 man team and enough gear. Since the objective of phase 1 is only to immobilize Anton, having 4 decked out teams whaling on Anton's legs can do the job. "ck"-ing the final boss of phase 2, Mateka, involves similar levels of SequenceBreaking and overpowered gear. Normally, players have to counter hit Mateka during the brief moments he lets down his shield to attack, and then use the floating orbs he drops to play a [[MatchThreeGame match-the-colors minigame]] with magic circles on the floor for a chance to do any real damage to him. However, with enough gear, one can just [[OneHitKO kill Mateka outright with a counter hit]] - hence "counter kill". These two strategies are so ingrained into every Anton raid that anything less is considered unacceptable for most raid leaders, fostering a sense of elitism where new, unlucky, or low-tier-preferring players are unwanted.
** Fiend War has the "hard reset" strategy, which is vital to Crusaders getting their LimitBreak buffs back, especially with Fiend War's strict [[TimedMission per-battle time limits]] limiting their usage to twice per battle at best. Since the level 95 cap update rendered [[CooldownManipulation cooldown-resetting equipment]] useless in most endgame situations, the only way to actually get a cooldown reset in any capacity is to [[HeroicSacrifice commit suicide]] and use a Life Token. Naturally, this means having tons of Life Tokens to begin with, which is a problem for newer Crusader players who aren't sitting on hundreds of them from event giveaways, what with the only other source of Life Tokens being the [[{{Microtransactions}} Cash Shop]] (or players in the party [[ThePowerOfFriendship kind enough]] to spend their own tokens on the Crusader).
** In general, most endgame pubs inflate gear requirements far past what's reasonable to 1.) power their way through almost all gimmicks for an easy clear and 2.) to account for the possible stupidity of the average random player. For those unfortunate enough to not have a steady raid group in a guild, this often results in [[OnlySaneMan more level-headed players]] saying one thing ("You should be able to clear in that gear") and the reality being totally disconnected (being declined because one didn't [[BribingYourWayToVictory pay to win]] enough for the party leader's tastes). If an endgame activity takes even a few minutes longer than expected due to not having enough carry-capable players, get ready to take a shot for every [[CreatureOfHabit person]] that starts losing their shit in the chat box. This mentality got thrown on its head, ironically, when the [[https://www.dfoneople.com/pg/fantastic-jumping-server jump server event]] handed all comers with a free suite of level 85 Epic equipment, injecting the Anton raid scene with geared but clueless players, utterly confusing and frustrating everyone else.
** Like most other [=MMOs=], [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/p2di6w/help_me_understand_this_endgame_process/ paying other players for carries]] is a common phenomenon in the endgame community, exacerbated in ''Global'' due to its comparatively smaller player base (and thus, lack of low-geared players to band together and help each other). Neople once tried to curb this problem by implementing Exorcism during the Luke Raid era - a numerical representation of a player's equipment power, but with the added caveat of penalizing the entire party's damage and survivability if any player in the party is below a dungeon's Exorcism requirement. It was eventually removed in 100 cap due to not really preventing sells effectively, since low-geared players cheesed the system by equipping enough random Epics to get over any Exorcism barriers.
** As of 110 cap, expect to see pretty much every DPS character running ManaShield (AKA [[Franchise/StarCraft "Archon"]]) Epics. The short explanation is that the Bracelet reduces your HP by 99.0% in exchange for making your MP bar your "health"; every other piece of the set either boosts your MP recovery, grants ManaDrain on hit or grants bonuses for having low HP. Compared to every other 105 Epic set in the game, it is the most universally applicable since it gives every character very high survivability and fantastic damage that only falls off at min-max levels (when Custom Epics start coming into the picture), and unlike the Object Damage (AKA "Nature") set which doesn't work in multiplayer, Archon is usable in all content either solo or party since the only difference is a loss in heal efficiency from Buffers since they tend to not recover your MP that well. Even when stripped down the core pieces the set is still used at endgame alongside Custom Epics; it's just ''that'' good compared to everything else.
* DifficultySpike: Post-Metastasis, the first one occurs around the time of the subclass change. Enemies in the later part of Abnova and onward start to have more varied attack patterns and enough damage to take out the player in only a few hits, not to mention that dungeons in the Meltdown area feature changable difficulty, as opposed to Abnova being pretty much easy difficulty by default. The next one occurs when the player get to Empyrean at level 55, where Ultimate difficulty is unlocked. Enemies in Ultimate boast much higher HP and defense, making them harder to kill and more likely to kill you.
** Even in the otherwise easy Scenario mode, enemies become much more durable and able to do a lot more damage per hit when you reach Metro Center, in addition to gaining annoying gimmicks such as spamming status effects and becoming invincible for large perioids of time.
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Woon Lyonir is an [=NPC=] that is only prominent in the late game era but has grown quite a fanbase in the eastern fandom. [[{{Bishounen}} His looks]], [[SugarAndIcePersonality personality]], and [[AbusiveParents tragic]] [[ChildSoldier backstory]] may have something to do with it.
* FanNickname: Plenty.
** "Sword Mom" or just "Mom" for Sword Master, mostly because of her hairstyle in her [[http://wiki.dfo-world.com/images/2/28/Majesty_Render.png 2nd Awakening art]].
** "Red Dog" for Berserker, primarily by Chinese players, since his level 85 skill briefly turns him into what appears to be [[{{Hellhound}} a dog]] [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin made out of]] [[BloodyMurder blood]].
** "Bug Mage" for Battle Mage, because of her numerous [[GameBreakingbug gameplay bugs]] and the fact that Neople is content with not fixing them.
** "Milk" for Crusaders, because of a [[MemeticMutation Chinese meme]] (see the YMMV page for details).
** "Ebins" for Epic equipment, [[RougeAnglesOfSatin an intentional misspelling]].
** "Duffo" for DFO as a whole, which is what happens when applying FunWithAcronyms to acronyms that aren't actually words.
** "Fashion Fighter Online", since many people regard [[VirtualPaperDoll avatars]] as the real endgame of DFO.
** "Solo Fighter Online" for both the ease of leveling and gearing a character by yourself, and the fact that the developers keep making solo versions of endgame dungeons.
** "Ghostboob" for Spectre, given her gameplay and aesthetic similarities to her SpearCounterpart, the Ghostblade. Sometimes also called "female Secret Agent" due to her relatively more modern style of dress compared to her other subclasses (especially her CoolShades) and both subclasses being the BadassNormal of their base classes.
** The Object Damage Equipment set is nicknamed "Nature" after an older Epic set that provides similar qualities.
** The Mana Shield Equipment set is nicknamed "Archon" after the unit class from the ''{{Franchise/Starcraft}}'' series in reference to the Archon unit's high Shield stat but low HP.
* FanPreferredCouple: There is plenty of fanart in pixiv and twitter that ships the player characters's [[ScrewYourself subclasses with each other]].
* FandomHeresy: As noted in BrokenBase above, the Fatigue Point system is pretty controversial amongst newer players. However, years after the game's re-launch, any anti-AntiPoopSocking sentiments end up getting quashed by veteran players by sheer force of numbers, at best reassuring FP gets burned slower at endgame or at worst comparing said people to Koreans who've literally died via gaming too long in PC cafes.
* FetishRetardant: The Knight's constant bouncing is often cringeworthy among players and can even be the sole reason people refuse to play the class.
* FountainOfMemes:
** Amongst DFO Global's [=ExStream=] team, MJ was considered the fan favorite over [[OnlySaneMan Gerri]] and [[CloudCuckoolander Danjun]] for his [[ComedicLolicon unabashed love of the Female Mage classes]], his overuse (and occasionally misuse) of English memes, and his occasionally silly facial expressions. When he had to go on hiatus due to a brain surgery, a lot of people (especially on [[Website/{{Reddit}} /r/dfo]] eventually came to miss him. Neople has taken notice of his popularity and had [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vnd1b4gJIA a video]] dedicated to his return to the team, opening with "GOD BLESS LOLIS" on a fiery background and MJ [[MemeticMutation once again donning his "deal with it" sunglasses]].
** Depending on who you ask, Danjun is also one of these. The best way to describe him is if one took Creator/TommyWiseau's quirkiness and gave it to a Korean streamer. He constantly loses his train of thought on-stream, occasionally strokes his ego, and sometimes stretches jokes to the point where they've overstayed their welcome. Some people think his weirdness has its own charm, much like Tommy, and is a welcome replacement in the absence of MJ, while others are just plain annoyed by him. Players who attended the 2016 [=ExStream=] tournament [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/5ujtdi/so_this_snippet_of_a_conversation_about_danjun/ claim]] that he's about as weird off-camera as he is on it, driving his roommates crazy and holding post-tournament interviews where the questions consisted of how handsome Danjun is. As far as more recent events go, the entirety of the [[MemeticMutation Demonic Penetrators]] Website/{{Twitch}} stream and [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ds9p10eMKmU this highlights video]] show that Danjun raises MJ's stress levels through the roof just being in the same room with him. Despite all of this, his final appearance on [=ExStream=] in late May 2019 (and subsequent announcement of leaving Neople) was met with surprisingly heartfelt goodbyes and some people on [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/bv2gh1/stream_confirmations_confirmations_on_the_may/ said stream's recap thread on Reddit]] say that they'll miss his trademark weirdness.
* GameBreaker: [[GameBreaker/DungeonFighterOnline Has its own page]].
* GameBreakingBug: In general, bugs in ''Global'' already exist in the Korean version, but are more prone to happening thanks to generally increased latency from players' geographical distance alone. Below are some more specific examples:
** In Tayberrs, lag can sometimes cause the boss, Silvery Harbart, to start overlapping some of her attack patterns. In other content, this might not be a problem, but each attack pattern is announced by a lengthy, dramatic knockback which only a few classes can negate, and this knockback can slide players into an attack pattern already in effect if it's bugging out.
** Fiend War has bugs aplenty, and thanks to strict time limits per battle and severe penalties for failing, these bugs often lead to UnintentionallyUnwinnable raid wipes.
*** Axion and Euclid revolve around the old Anton [[SarcasmMode fan favorite]] of counter hitting them a fixed number of times within a time limit. The problem with this is that, like Mateka in Anton Raid, the counter window changes depending on your party members' lag by virtue of the game's peer-to-peer netcode.
*** Schrodinger's gimmick is that everyone is [[PowerNullifier silenced]] until one player picks up an orb that temporarily removes silence, but [[ManaBurn "poisons" their MP]] and eventually [[UniversalPoison poisons them for real]] once the MP runs out. The only way to prevent your death is to pass on the orb to another player and have them attack, like a game of GrenadeHotPotato. The problem with this battle is that lag (once again) can sometimes make passing the orb harder than it really should be, or in some cases, even merely picking it up (at which point it [[StuffBlowingUp explodes]] and [[TotalPartyKill kills everyone]]).
*** Crasher is notorious for bugging out even in the Korean version, where lag in excess of 100 milliseconds presumably isn't a factor at all. The gimmick is simple - destroy the floating eyeball matching Crasher's current color. After destroying all four of them, you and your party get 15 seconds to whale at it. The bug in question happens when players get to this 15 second damage window and instead find out that Crasher has permanently shut off [[HitboxDissonance and nobody is able to hit it]] for seemingly no reason at all.
*** In rare cases, the FinalBoss of the raid, Cosmo Fiend Rosen, can [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/bi3pde/we_make_wonders_rosen_edition/ simultaneously be dead and "alive"]]. The Fiend War map sometimes fails to register Rosen as dead, but since he ''is'' dead, [[UnintentionallyUnwinnable players can't try to kill him again to clear the raid]].
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff: It wouldn't be much of a stretch to say that ''Dungeon & Fighter'' is a cultural phenomenon in China, and that's ''after'' considering their exclusive [[BribingYourWayToVictory pay-to-win elements]], rampant PowerCreep that makes the Korean version look tame, and [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/4lhcw8/comparisons_between_dfo_and_cdnf/ other similar problems]]. Their version is the one that contributes the most to Nexon's year-after-year profits[[labelnote:*]] [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_video_game_franchises According to]] Website/TheOtherWiki, it's earned $1.6 billion every year since 2016, causing at least one major Korean news site [[https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/tech/2018/09/134_247195.html to worry about]] Neople putting all of their eggs in one basket[[/labelnote]], and it's not hard to see why when some of its most hardcore whales pour [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/cs58ks/popular_cdnf_stream_asked_how_much_he_spent_on/?st=jzhnkcic&sh=dd560bce literally millions of dollars]] into the game singlehandedly to one-up the competition. Outside of the main game, one of DFO's two anime adaptations is funded by Tencent Studios ([=CDNF=]'s publisher), and at least one third-party light novel - ''Literature/TheKingsAvatar'' - has one long, extended ShoutOut to ''D&F'' within its setting, the FictionalVideoGame "Glory".
* GoddamnedBats: Per zone, there's pretty much a list of them.
** Special mention goes to the ranged scorpions in the Rotting Lot. To wit: their hitboxes are rather low to the ground, making them awkward to hit. They like to hang back and shoot poison stings that do a lot of damage and can poison you to do even more damage. And, to make it worse, you usually find at least 2 a room.
** Ice Dingles (found in the second dungeon in the game) deserve special note as they fire homing ice balls that persist a while, have a sizable hitbox and do a nasty chunk of damage. Many early deaths are cased by them, enough to the point of Season 2 tweaking them to be less obnoxious by removing the homing feature and making them disappear much quicker.
** To give you an idea of what status makes an enemy a goddamned bat: ranged attacks (aforementioned scorpions), being immune to launching (whisps/stalkers are hard because you can't use conventional combos to stop them attacking), or have an annoying gimmick that gets in the way of battle (the flare worms at Dendroid Hub)Generally, they won't kill you, but they will be a headache to deal with in a crowd for various reasons.
** One standout enemy type that gives most classes disproportionate amounts of trouble when you first meet them are the Parasites found in specific Time Gate dungeons: they're small and hard to hit, they attack you the second you enter the dungeon, leaving you little to no time to cast your buffs and they're extremely effective at ganging up on you and stunlocking you to death with their ice and fire breaths.
** In the level 95 cap, Slave Trackers and Shadowmancers are this, whose attacks range from annoying to outright deadly depending on the difficulty. Slave Trackers have a homing jump attack that is often the first thing they do as soon as they're able to move, and if the player doesn't act fast enough, they can potentially dogpile them to death. On the other hand, Shadowmancers prefer to sink into their own shadows, giving them short but still annoying invulnerability frames, and their most notable attack is having their shadow turn into a bouncing projectile. They have tons of hitstun and do respectable damage by themselves, but in groups they are exceptionally deadly especially for classes that don't have a lot of sweeping AOE attacks. The worst part is that both of these enemies show up in large numbers in the 95 cap's definitive gold farming dungeon, Total Eclipse.
* GoodBadBugs: The Elven Knight gets the good end: Casting a buff skill such as ''War Cry'' allows the Elven Knight to keep her ''Chain Rush'' going between rooms as long as the actual buff persists.
** If an Avenger uses his Demonize form's Demon Guard at the same time they trigger a room change, the effect stays permanently with them until the end of the dungeon, massively reducing the amount of damage they take from all physical attacks.
** The powered up Chasers that Battle Mage gets with her second Awakening have multiple bugs associated with them, some of them helpful, some of them harmful (for example, broken hitboxes, nonexistent area of effect damage, hitting dead or invincible enemies creates glitched Chasers that do ridiculous amounts of damage, etc), to the degree that people jokingly call her a [[FanNickname Bug Mage]]. For a list of them, see [[http://imgur.com/a/e3sq4 here]].
** Late December 2017 had a short lived bug due to an event buff (for christmas eve/day) interacting with the Epic Road event in such a way that Turiel, one of the two bosses had a 99% epic drop rate. Cue everyone that could (i.e. having event invites still) running the dungeon in hopes of running into him more. This got backlashed from the more overly zealous players who used up all their invites before hand. It turns out that the staff found out about it but let it slip as a nice present, but ultimately decided to disable the event buff's 2nd occurrence on the 31st/1st, leading to some more base breaking.
** Luke's Laboratory has a pretty good one when fighting Luke himself in Solium Machina - the huge computer system at the top of the room. It doesn't do anything by itself since it's a scenery object, but when players stand right next to it, [[HitboxDissonance almost all of Luke's attacks fail to hit them]]. This extends even to the raid version of the dungeon, and it still hasn't been patched out as of September 2018.
* HoYay:
** The Demonic Lancer and his unnamed companion who shows up in his intro; as the Demonic Lancer is greatly grieved having to kill him for entertainment for the empire. The lyrics of his ImageSong [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zI0oQbIdo_s ''Crack is Over'']] fuels this up.
-->''I finally feel your cold hand over the bright moon-light. The times we spent together looking at the stars; it's gone like the dust remaining in the dream of ours. As I gain my strength and by the time I was shining over my powers; it also brought me the same amount of sorrow. Crack is Over. The looks I gave you, changed everything as I turned to the others. My warm heart is gone, and my eyes are cold. [...] It only remains beside you, in the cruel tears I drop.''
** [[spoiler:When Azalea dies, her last words is asking you if Terra was beautiful and confessing that she loved being with you, regardless of what gender you're playing as.]]
* ItsEasySoItSucks: If new players don't end up quitting over ''Global''[='=]s [[ScrappyMechanic seemingly draconian sanctions on new accounts]] and [[AntiPoopSocking fatigue system]] first, the braindead "difficulty" of Scenario quests is often the thing new players have gripes against. Said difficulty is tuned to facilitate {{Altitis}} and is designed to let veteran players get a new character painlessly from level 1 to cap in around two weeks; a far cry from other, more traditional {{MMORPG}}s where the challenge comes from the leveling. To new players, all it does is give them the wrong impression of the game's overall difficulty, and the fact that fatigue points get burned through faster as an indirect result of this just serves to compound the problem.
* ItsTheSameNowItSucks: The Dark Miscreation dungeon is this for both sides of the pond. It's largely regarded as a less-than-useless dungeon that provides tradeable Product of Wisdom Epics that take entirely too long to farm for their supposed "crutch equipment" design. It doesn't help that the weekend-only hard version of the dungeon requires full epics to make it manageable. As with the level 85 Products of Wisdom, the only niche Dark Miscreation really appeals to are players who fear getting level 100 Epics on characters that aren't their mains.
* LGBTFanbase: Gay {{Rule34}} of DFO characters comes in only slightly less numbers compared to their Straight counterparts, as the DNF tags of Website/{{Tumblr}} and Website/{{Pixiv}} can confirm. The most popular characters for this are the [[WalkingShirtlessScene Male Fighter]] and the [[TheBigGuy Male Priest.]]
* LowTierLetdown:
** Necromancers are considered to be one of the least fun classes to play, since her moveset is mainly built around her 2 minions...one of which is largely controlled by the AI and another of which essentially works like a simplified secondary character you have more direct control over and without either of them, she can do little more than lay traps and use basic thief moves. It doesn't help that her endgame builds involve heavy amounts of gear swapping.
** Not a lot of people use the Creator class, but when they do, it doesn't last very long due to her gameplay that gets really repetitive really quickly.
** Despite ostensibly being designed from the ground up to provide Crusader-like buffs, in reality Enchantress was more like she had [[MasterOfNone mediocre DPS compared to her fellow female Mage subclasses with medicore buffs tacked on as an afterthought]]. She also came out at a rather poor time, not even a month after the level 95 cap, so practically nobody's Enchantress was geared. As a result, she was ranked 18th on the popularity poll for that month (both genders of Crusaders, on the other hand, almost never fall below the top 3). A few weeks later, a patch [[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment buffed her buffs]] (so to speak). Unfortunately for her, a change in general synergy class mechanics a few weeks ''after'' she got buffed caused her to [[https://youtu.be/0BoifGEeF_0?t=37 fall in popularity even further]]. The only time players really speak highly of her is with the raid selling meta, where the Enchantress only has one DPS character to buff.
** Vagabond [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/pw6ac9/ending_of_her_arc/ plummeted in Korean popularity polls]] after the release of Blade, due to a combination of Blade's sheer damage potential and a round of character buffs that used Vagabond as the baseline -- meaning she went unchanged while everyone else in the cast got better.
* MemeticBadass: G.S.D. is considered to be the equivalent of Chuck Norris in Dungeon Fighter Online, though with his inactivity in post Metastasis DFO, another might take his spot.
** Considering he's level 84 out of 70 (original DFO) and can use his ultimate attack at any time, it's no surprise why.
* MemeticLoser:
** Male Brawler. He's gained a reputation for being the "wheelchair class" due to being rather trash at endgame, when most enemies resist Poison, the primary status effect that Brawlers inflict. Thanks to the Season 2 update, M. Brawler has been coming back from being "wheelchair-tier" as the result of massive re-balancing overhauls that have increased the class's endgame viability. It's now argued that he's the strongest M.Fighter class
** Avenger got hit with this twice: Once in Nexon-era for his lacking performance compared to others and currently for his difficulties in the Anton meta and some Oververse dungeons (due to his shadow damage being resisted highly)
** Lancer in general, for being a weak class (at first) in raids and spawning the "REMOVE LANCER" meme.
* MemeticMutation:
** [[LargeHam STRAIGHT PUNCH LIKE A MAN!!!]]
** Kiri (equipment enhancer) being portrayed as someone [[MemeticTroll who delights in breaking weapons]].
** YOU GOTTA SPEND MONEY TO MAKE MONEY![[labelnote:Explanation]]Back in the Nexon era, Danjin and his crew of Pot vendors had a voice clip that constantly shouted this phrase [[LargeHam as loud as possible]] at the player. Unfortunately, it went away with the Neople era, although a not-as-hammy version was featured briefly as the result of a voice acting contest.[[/labelnote]]
** [[BadExportForYou "Unique Experience"]][[labelnote:Explanation]]A quote from Nexon as to why the first run of DFO was different than other areas; it has since become synonymous among DFO vets for BadExportForYou.[[/labelnote]]
** [=DREAM4U=][[labelnote:Explanation]]The name of Knight's ImageSong, which caught on with NA players. Their ironic embracing of the song was seen by Neople by them wanting Knight first resulting in just that.[[/labelnote]]
** "Anton ready" and variations thereof[[labelnote:Explanation]]The moment Anton released, the entire meta shifted towards beating Anton. This involves reaching a god-like state which is commonly called "Anton ready", which involves gearing yourself with full sets of InfinityMinusOneSword gear appropriate for challenging Anton. With the release of the Luke Raid in DFOG, it's now Luke ready.[[/labelnote]]
** [[SarcasmMode BETTER THAN LAST YEAR]][[labelnote:Explanation]]See BrokenBase above.[[/labelnote]]
** REMOVE LANCER [[labelnote:Explanation]]A lot of people hate the existence of the Lancer and his subclasses, partly because of his general weakness in raid parties and partly because Lancer weapons "dilute" the drop pool with even more irrelevant epic items (even Korean players [[https://dfonexus.com/threads/7th-dfog-to-kdnf-translated-responses.14649/ express this sentiment]]). The announcement of [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/6mchgq/be_afraid_very_afraid_2_to_3_new_lancer/ two new Lancer subclasses]] at the 2017 [=DnF=] Summer Festival only made this meme more prevalent.[[/labelnote]]
** [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/411366/deal_with_it/ Deal with it]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]On an old episode of EXSTREAM (on Twitch), a chat member asked why Bind Cubes are making a return in DFOG as the only way of obtaining rare avatars. [[note]](For the uninitiated, Bind Cubes combine two normal avatars of the same slot to get either a different, randomized normal avatar, or a small chance to get rare avatars and rare clone avatars, which have better stats over normal clone avatars and the completely stat-less normal avatars. Since normal avatars are untradeable and only obtainable with real money, Bind Cubes were effectively useless to non-paying players.)[[/note]] Former stream member MJ replied by using the [[http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/deal-with-it eponymous meme]], only realizing after the fact that the phrase is rather rude in English if taken seriously. On a later stream, MJ makes a CallBack to this gaffe by putting on sunglasses and posing for the camera. The pose ended up becoming a meme image (the one being linked).[[/labelnote]]
** [[MemeticNiceGuy Santa Turiel]][[labelnote:Explanation]]Due to a GoodBadBug, he as a boss in the epic road event dungeon, dropped an epic 99% of the time. This led people praising him, even making pics with a santa cap on him.[[/labelnote]]
** Demonic Penetrators [[labelnote:Explanation]]The official title of [[https://www.dfoneople.com/news/updates/967/Overview the update]] that brought the remaining two Lancer subclasses to DFO Global. On the stream that announced it, [[CloudCuckoolander Danjun]] (who thought of the title name) attempted to justify the "Penetrators" part by saying that's what Lancers do with their lances. One Twitch chat member replied by saying that "nobody uses that word except in a sexual context", to which his fellow streamers Gerri and MJ agreed with wholeheartedly. To add insult to injury, the word "penetrator" was misspelled in the stream's title, which the chat kept poking fun at. The event that followed for these two classes' second awakening, [[https://www.dfoneople.com/news/events/989/Demonic-Desires?page=1 Demonic Desire]], doesn't really help make the innuendo look [[AccidentalInnuendo any less accidental]].[[/labelnote]]
** [[UsefulNotes/MisplacedNationalism TAIWAN NUMBER ONE]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]Some Taiwanese players on DFO Global have the tendency to spontaneously start spamming this line, or some variation of it, in megaphone chat - often with zero provocation from anyone else. This inevitably starts a FlameWar with any Chinese players presently online [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_status_of_Taiwan (for good reason)]] and/or derision from everyone else who isn't from either country.[[/labelnote]]
** Africa. [[labelnote:Explanation]][[https://www.quora.com/Is-it-true-that-Chinese-internet-slang-uses-the-word-African-to-mean-unfortunate-miserable-and-European-to-mean-the-opposite Long story short,]] black is an unlucky color in Chinese superstition. Chinese gamers often refer to a BornUnlucky player as a "black person" (as in, if AuraVision was real, these players would probably radiate black [[PurpleIsTheNewBlack and purple]] with [[TheJinx their sheer bad luck]]), which got taken to a more literal direction by referring to "black people" as "Africans". Raid parties in DFO will often start spamming "africa" in chat when an ''entire raid party'' gets absolutely nothing of note at the end of the raid, especially if it's a 20 man Anton raid.[[/labelnote]]
** Female Crusaders with "Milk" in their name. [[labelnote:Explanation]]Another Chinese meme, like "Africa" above. As [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/7exjz0/just_came_across_this_in_my_raid_cdnf/dq883lc/ this post explains]], female-only [[WhiteMage healers]] are called "nannies" by Chinese players, and they're said to [[UnusualEuphemism "breastfeed"]] (read: [[SupportPartyMember support]]) their fellow party members with their spells. Despite the presence of a male Crusader in DFO, the label still sticks. Ironically, the female Priest is ''not'' the [[MostCommonSuperPower most stacked]] playable female class in the game.[[/labelnote]]
** Pig luck. [[labelnote:Explanation]]A meme coming from the Korean version, this is basically the polar opposite of "Africa" above, used to describe BornLucky players.[[/labelnote]]
** [[SayingSoundEffectsOutLoud Joop]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]On DFO's official Website/{{Twitch}} stream, one episode featured Gerri [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WB9zv3pHufU using the "word"]] to explain why she prefers male Crusaders over Enchantresses (apparently, his buff sound effects are [[SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound most wonderful]] to her). The chat ''immediately'' jumped on spamming the word all over the place (and later spilled over to [[Website/{{Reddit}} /r/dfo]]), much to her embarrassment. Oddly enough, ''Joop!'' is [[AluminumChristmasTrees a real brand of]] [[https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=joop+perfume men's perfume]], [[https://clips.twitch.tv/CrypticSecretivePhoneBlargNaut as they discovered]] two weeks later. The meme was [[AscendedMeme ascended]] in late 2020 when the Avatar Marketplace was added to ''Global'' - one of the hashtags players can label their avatar sets with is "Joop".[[/labelnote]]
** [[AsianSpeekeeEngrish Smol team, prease andastand.]] [[labelnote:Explanation]]See NoBudget on [[Trivia/DungeonFighterOnline the Trivia page]].[[/labelnote]]
** [[GratuitousForeignLanguage dalao zhu c 666]][[labelnote:Explanation]]Yet another meme originating from Chinese gamers, roughly translating to "big brother is carrying" ([[JustForFun/IThoughtItMeant no, not that]] [[BigBrotherIsWatching Big Brother]]), with 666 being a homophone for a ''hanzi'' that means "good luck" (they're both pronounced ''liu''). Non-Chinese ''Global'' players eventually caught on and started using the phrase to describe Non-Chinese [[BribingYourWayToVictory whales]], with some even using the phrase attempting to recruit actual Chinese whales to their raids.[[/labelnote]]
** Homework Fighter Online[[labelnote:Explanation]]As noted under AmericansHateTingle, the game [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/c4d085/kdnf_userdirector_meeting_of_2019_summary/ caught a lot of flak]] during 95 cap for the sheer amount of dailies and weeklies an endgame player is expected to do [[LuckBasedMission for an indeterminate amount of time depenidng on luck]] to get anywhere. The phrase "homework game" was eventually appropriated by similarly disgruntled ''Global'' players, and the sentiment persisted into 100 cap, when the "homework" became more plentiful and [[ItsHardSoItSucks more difficult]].[[/labelnote]]
** Promoted/Promotion[[labelnote:Explanation]]For most endgame players that regularly attend raids, getting assigned to green party (usually the lowest tier in the raid) is often regarded with relief due to the more lenient damage cutoff and responsibilities required of green party. Some players describe this as "getting promoted", especially if they were initially assigned to harder parties by the raid lead. Conversely, people tend to treat getting moved out of green party with disdain, with some [[DecliningPromotion begging to go back]] or more extreme players even [[DeliberateUnderPerformance deliberately undergearing]] to fool unsuspecting raid leads.[[/labelnote]]

** Some of the 2nd Awakening Class names, while the advancement itself is a SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome, the names are rather too goofy to really feel the awesomeness, particularly [[Franchise/StarWars Storm Trooper]] (Which did get changed to Storm Bringer in DFOG) and Blood Evil.
** One of Neople's advertising taglines back in 2016 was "[[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/4qt0up/found_this_ad_on_youtube_seems_theyre_advertising/ Play Your Anime World]]" - arguably more questionable in quality than Neople's [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/3d1xvi/finally_saw_a_dfo_ad_with_actual_picture_d/ previous advertising effort]]. Almost every player who's seen the ad noted that, without the Dungeon Fighter Online logo, it looks like a cheesy, low-effort ad for a Facebook game, designed around the fact that people who play DFO also happen to like anime. Before the tagline was found [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/4rm4hd/i_acquired_the_dfo_ax_banner_somehow/ plastered on a banner shown off at Anime Expo 2016]] (and then found as [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/4sqecr/dfo_ad/ actual clickable ads]], it was initially assumed that the tagline was a result of outsourcing the advertising (much like the few instances of BlindIdiotTranslation that cropped up after Neople stated that translation efforts were also outsourced).
** The game tries its damnedest to show violent, tragic, and meaningful plot developments through in-game cutscenes, but this results in most scenes being done within the confines of the game's limitations, which means a ton of recycled animations/sound effects that are identical to player character animations. Nothing says "someone got murdered in cold blood" like seeing a bullet identical to a Gunner's normal attack fly slowly across the screen before the target flops over dead like every other player. Luckily a few extremely relevant scenes have extremely high-quality animated videos to go with them instead of being done in-game.
* OvershadowedByControversy: A lot of average people got their first exposure of DFO not through the game's InvisibleAdvertising, nor through anecdotes of how bad the game ostensibly is from long-time players, but through [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xglwJft6Nec Kira TV's coverage of an insider illegal real money trade incident]] initially valued at US$2.4 million and/or [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srI7KR9-mp0 Asmongold's reaction]] to said video.[[note]]For context, this is the same incident that all players received a paid item compensation package for in August 2023.[[/note]]
* PlayTheGameSkipTheStory: As most [=MMOs=] would go, while the scenario dungeons are story driven and explore the depth of many characters (including the player depending on what you're playing as), people are more likely to engage in the scenario dungeons for the sake of leveling than learning the lore.
* PortingDisaster: ''Dungeon Fighter Live''. It's closer to a paid ''demo'' than a port of ''DFO''. The game only features three classes (with no subclasses to speak of), is fairly lacking in RPGElements, has clunky item usage controls, and caps out at level 20, which is attainable in a few hours. Most of what the game has to offer can be discovered by simply playing its trial period (which only disables saving progress) for an hour or two.
* RealLifeWritesThePlot: After Nexon of America shut down the original DFO service and Neople took over, the latter company included the resultant fallout into the game's storyline as The Great Metastasis, essentially writing Nexon of America's mismanagement of the original game into the plot as an AlternateUniverse wherein everything remained in comparative chronological stasis[[labelnote:Explanation]]Nexon USA not only failed to address the myriads of game-breaking glitches and [[NoExportForYou utter lack of content patches]] during their entire run, they also had piss-poor customer service which forced players to resort to finding other methods of making the game playable amidst the numerous bugs hampering their experience. To make matters worse, the resultant epidemic of botters, hackers and Real Money Trading was merely met with random player bans, if not complete disinterest on Nexon USA's part. The result was a game that was incredibly broken, had very little content compared to the Korean version, and had a ''very angry and disillusioned'' audience. This is a huge part of why a majority of the fanbase is still incredibly bitter to this day, although they're slowly getting better thanks to Neople's timely intervention.[[/labelnote]] and its repercussions as a WorldWreckingWave that destroyed the continent of Arad and resulted in Pandemonium appearing above their world with its Apostles directly threatening its existence. The result is a subtle yet massive TakeThat at how Nexon USA neglected the service during their tenure. Of course, this was only possible because of how several elements of Korean Dungeon and Fighter's storyline was never localized into old DFO to begin with, most notably the Female Slayer's backstory which led into The Great Metastasis.
* TheScrappy: The newer classes save Female Slayer (mostly) get treated like this mildly in the NA regions for delaying subclasses of M.Mage and Thief.
** In Korea however, the Knight Class gets this treatment HEAVILY due to being a fanservicey, overpowered but flawed character who seems groomed to be the protagonist. That and getting her instead of the much awaited second awakenings for later characters (M.Gunner, F.Mage, Priest). Knight players were popular targets of Town [[PlayerVersusPlayer PvP]] Ganking early on.
** Thief also got hit with this soon after she was released due to being faster and stronger than existing characters and while she got nerfed to a more balanced state (at best), the sentiment seems to have stuck. M.Mage is an exception as he's merely not popular. Such cold (at best) receptions are a factor in why they're slow to get their last two subclasses.
** However Neople did chose to give them 3 more subclasses instead of the usual 2 which is unprecedented.
* ScrappyMechanic:
** Despite how basic and essential of a gameplay mechanic it is, switching rooms can be a pain in the ass at times: there's no way to prevent switching rooms when you're close to a door, which can be troublesome when there's some other action you need to perform when next to it such as boarding a vehicle or picking up an item, some of the room transition triggers aren't positioned correctly and finding them can be more difficult than it should be and finally, doors only take moving inside their trigger area into account, meaning you can try to actively run away from a door and still be sent to the room it leads to in some cases, and when playing with a party, the game can be extremely eager to immediately send you back to the previous room if you need to backtrack for any reason (ie. party is in room 2 but needs to backtrack back to already cleared room 1 for whatever reason, which often causes the game to send them right back to room 2 right as they switch to room 1 before they have a chance to move away from the door or vice versa), forcing your party members to move away from the door and back again to trigger a room switch and get the party back on the right track.
** Also, in Forgotten Land, switching rooms can take much longer than usual, making it easier for enemies to knock you away from the spot and force you to kill them and waste more time.
** Epic weapons that force the player to play "full manual" (empty out their hotkeys). People who came to [=DFO=] from other Korean [=MMOs=] rather than fighting games don't exactly appreciate huge damage bonuses being locked behind [[SomeDexterityRequired a skill gate]]. In the level 100 cap, the "Arid Desert Legacy" armor set has a downplayed version of this gimmick, requiring players to forego six of their hotkeys (out of 14) for the full damage bonus.
** On the flip side, players have more than half a second between button presses to execute a skill manually. This is to accommodate the group of players described in the point above, but it's more known for unintentionally fuzzing inputs (e.g. pressing ↓ to line up a →→+Z skill, which ends up registering as ↓→→+Z, a completely different skill).
** The Fiend War raid by itself has plenty of scrappy mechanics:
*** It forgoes the usual stage select screen and instead uses an enormous town area that players have to walk through to get to their battles. Players not wearing rare avatars or rare clone avatars - a huge source of the "Town Movement Speed" stat - are at a disadvantage as they'd be lagging behind their assigned party.
*** Raid battles activate automatically when an enemy moves over a town area sector occupied by at least one player, which can result in situations where one player who entered a sector slightly too early is stuck in a HopelessBossFight by themselves and forced to retreat to base.
*** The final boss, Cosmo Fiend Rosen, must be fought in two different maps at the same time with different, randomly-changing attack patterns. The two versions of Rosen [[{{Synchronization}} equalize their health when one of them "dies"]], so coordination between the two raid parties is of utmost importance. At least one of Rosen's attack patterns makes doing this harder than it sounds, taking more time to deal with than his other three patterns. An impatient (or simply naive) party can blow through the "easier" Rosen and give the other party a hard time if the raid isn't coordinated enough.
** Account creation, of all things, is a scrappy mechanic. In place of a halfway-functioning anti-cheat, most new ''DFO Global'' players will instead find themselves instantly temp banned just for making an account, which they have to send a ticket to support to get lifted... only for the ban system to [[HereWeGoAgain automatically ban them again]]. Unsurprisingly, this has done less than nothing for retaining new players. The appalling state of ''Global''[='=]s anti-cheat is not one unique to this game - in fact, most Korean games localized overseas often have trouble coming to terms with the fact that [[https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/1jorkx/nexon_now_allowing_foreign_residents_in_south/ personally identifiable information suddenly isn't doing the anti-cheat for them anymore]]. One episode of their Twitch stream had one of the developers [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmgvuSoJt4o flat out admit]] that this system is a thing because ''Global'' has NoBudget for bot monitoring. This sometimes indirectly affects veteran players, as well - events that involve helping new players for rewards are harder than they should be, because the new players keep getting banned upon account creation.
*** On a related note, account security is similarly unwieldy, or just outright not an option if one can't or won't use Google Authenticator. Should you lose the device the authenticator is on, Neople's support team will [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/upu58a/used_google_authenticator_lost_phone_account_lost/ ask for account and/or bank info]] that the average person either forgot, or the info isn't relevant enough to prove account ownership.
** As ridiculous as it sounds, ''entering dungeons'' in Prey Raid is a scrappy mechanic. The raid travels around Prey's turf on [[GiantFlyer Slenikon's back]] and raid parties enter dungeons by either moving to Slenikon's head or tail to defend Slenikon or attack Prey's forces, respectively. If even one player in a raid party isn't paying attention (or, worse yet, has an untimely disconnection), they end up staying put on Slenikon and potentially passing up a mission-critical dungeon, likely causing a snowballing effect for other parties that ends up spiraling the raid into failure.
** One of the new dungeons in 100 cap was "The Dark Miscreation's Garden", a place where players can farm Product of Wisdom Epics called "Neo Legendaries" that augment Legendary sets to the same power level as lower-tier Epic sets. It sounds like a fairly good idea on paper until one realizes ''DFO Global''[='=]s port of the dungeon restricts entry to a scheduled window of ten minutes once every two hours, severely limiting how fast these Epics can be farmed. Even if one were to tolerate its grind, the annoyances don't end there -- the crafting recipe for Neo Legendaries ''has a large chance to fail'', which is reportedly the same percentage used in the Korean version. As a result, ''Global'' players mostly gave up on attempting to farm for this equipment not even a month after the dungeon made its debut.
** Sirocco Raid has the dungeon "Hall of Consciousness: Oblivion", a dungeon that's required to expose Sirocco's weak point for a 25 second DPS window. The problem with this dungeon is its LuckBasedMission nature - the boss is hiding unmarked in a 4x4 room layout, and he's generally never near the starting point of the dungeon. The dungeon itself also sometimes needs to be cleared more than once - exceptionally unlucky raids might need to see this dungeon cleared ''four times or more''. The effects of both of these design decisions range from annoying to potentially raid-ending, depending on what mistakes the rest of the raid did (if any).
** Synergy gear from Aeterna was this in the Korean version, at least during its test server run. The gear was almost unanimously hated by Korean players for making ''all synergy classes useless'', as having an 11-piece Aeterna Epic set gave even the most party-unfriendly DPS classes insane synergy buffs. Needless to say, whales who invested their money into maining synergy classes were less than pleased. In response to this backlash, the synergy gear was nerfed to near-uselessness after exiting the test server, being only useful in the incredibly niche case where two DPS party members have more than twice the damage of the Aeterna-wearing synergy and are okay with carrying them, so now it's a scrappy mechanic in the "why does this even exist?" sense.
** Mythics are considered this on both sides of the pond, as players need to tailor their Epic setup around their equipped Mythic, largely seen as defeating the purpose of the gear diversity the level 100 cap introduced. Their immensely low drop rate (a Korean community effort pegged it at approximately ''0.05%'') also gatekeeps BornUnlucky players from damage for no good reason. A quality of life update in the Korean version added a variation of Guide of Wisdom that raises Mythic drop rates sixfold at the cost of more Time Guide Stones per run, but most players saw the change as too little, too late. One [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/oz6wqi/the_bullshit_rng_twins_of_100_cap/ controversial /r/dfo rant]] in particular specifically highlights the sheer randomness of Mythics and Sirocco Epics as 100 cap's lowest points game design-wise.
* SoBadItsGood:
** The live action promotional trailer for the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1sd0WTWsJk Kunoichi]]
*** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vc3-6SttKh8 The Global counterpart]] for the Kunoichi trailer produced by the ''DFOG'' team has even ''lower'' production values and even more cheese, and is just as great.
** The live action promotional trailer for the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGp_rSUKoSU#t=33 new Male Mage classes]] are also a new contendor.
* StopHavingFunGuys: There are plenty of them in the endgame scene and always seem to come out of the woodwork during events involving new classes specifically to beat perceived [[{{Scrub}} scrubs]] back from tainting the pristine, extremely fast, and extremely optimized endgame content runs. For example, the Ghostblade and Enchantress-focused High Five event ended up opening old wounds like the similarly generous Jump Server event, [[CasualCompetitiveConflict pitting]] the "retarded" people with free gear against the "elitists" in ridiculously-amped gear. [[Website/{{Reddit}} /r/dfo]], as usual, is quick to poke fun at [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/crkuci/shitpost_why_cant_i_get_into_pubs/ both]] [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/cqvpvj/big_mood/ parties]] for once again missing the forest for the trees.
* TearJerker:
** The Female Fighter's intro is quite sad. Her parents were forced to send her away as a child, and the next time she saw them years later, they were killed by a monster infected by the Metastasis. The sheer trauma of seeing their deaths causes her to break down crying in the middle of her training.
** Poor, poor Lenny [[spoiler: is ''always'' doomed to die. The first time, ''you'' murder her in a fit of insanity caused by Lotus's MindRape. In an alternate version of Arad, ''she'' ends up as the victim of MindRape, and you have to MercyKill her.]]
** The Season 2 update added a Scenario Dungeon involving rescuing Lorainne and her Denkas from Sky Tower, a CallBack to an identical quest pre-Metastasis. This can be rather disheartening if you saw [[spoiler:the EasterEgg in Chessboard of Despair that highly implies that she died.]]
** Going through Reshpon, the City of Pain is a minor one as unlike most stages, the music is a sad piano heavy piece heightening the fact a big tragedy took place here.
** The Lancer's intro story is probably the most depressing one out of all the player characters, as he has gained freedom from the empire at the cost of his friend's life, whom he killed in the finals. It ends with him putting up a memorial of him at Silver Crown, where he wished to visit one day if he is ever freed. If that's not enough, the lyrics to his ImageSong ''really'' shows how much he's grieving over him. Ouch.
* ThatOneAttack: The final battle in Ozma Raid has a few:
** "I hereby declare the end of this rotten world": Ozma spawns three orbs in the center of the room that explode and send out a shockwave that players must get over. The problem is that players jumping (or otherwise going above two feet off the ground) ''also'' produces a shockwave when they land, meaning players must either backstep over it to avoid triggering this, or just [[NoSell iframe]] the whole attack. Lancers can't even use the former option, since their "backstep" is technically a backwards slide that keeps them grounded.
** "Who wants to be sacrificed first?": One player gets a yellow aura, while the other three get red auras. The player with the yellow aura needs to keep an eye out on the others, watching for which player Ozma is targeting with his FrickinLaserBeams and run past them to knock them over so that they can use a Quick Rebound to avoid the lasers. The problem is that the lasers fire at an incredibly fast pace, and the party is likely running around trying to avoid everything else when this gimmick kicks in. In most cases, players will just iframe through the lasers if they can instead of trying to do the gimmick properly.
* ThatOneBoss:
** High Priest Aslor. The boss has no annoying gimmicks, but the combos she is capable of are annoying. There are 2 attacks that are notable. 1. is her jump, which moves very quickly and homes in on a character, making it harder to avoid than most regular hunters. 2nd is her nail/blade throw, where she doesn't have a long charging time, unlike the mooks, and can sometimes throw 3 in a single volley, which can remove a good chunk of your HP or outright ''kill'' you if you are caught in it, and it also inflicts a nasty bleed status that can finish you off if you survive the initial attack. She moves fast as well, making what are normally scaled attacks on mooks demonic on her. She also has an annoying habit of using dragon's roar, a weak [=AoE=] that is meant to knock others back and normally activated on level up or revival, at random times, meaning you immediately get knocked back from a combo because the A.I. was being spitefully, possibly knocking you into place for a nail barrage.
*** Post-Metastatis, she isn't as hard as she's fought later and you have more tools at your disposal.
** [[WakeUpCallBoss Isadora]], one of the two bosses in the Endless Nightmare. She has a near-unavoidable teleport/smack attack that, with her dark balls of energy, can deal well over 1000 damage, a OneHitKill fireball spell, a meteor storm spell, and, to top it off, [[FlunkyBoss summons a bunch of]] GoddamnBats.
** Post Metastasis Gangling Lotus. Now, instead of stationary boss you can wail on, Lotus hangs in the background for most of the fights. For the most part, the only way you're going to do damage to him is by attacking his tentacles, the same tentacles he uses to attack you. The hitboxes for the attacks also tend to be larger than they appear, leading to getting attacked even if you think you're safe.
** Gold King Widir, the boss of Gold Tunnel (and Gold King's Secret Cave). He moves insanely fast and has multiple ranged attacks that force the player to run around to avoid them, leaving very little opportunity to attack. And then when you take off enough HP, he [[TurnsRed removes his armor]] and gains a very long multi-hit melee combo that shreds through HP bars very quickly (it leaves him immobile after it finishes, but good luck dodging it) and new even more annoying ranged attacks.
** Riot Captain Shred, a bike riding boss who has a full screen stun by jumping a certain ways, a laser, missiles, land runners as well as attacking with his bladed front wheel. That combined with his nigh-permament super armor makes attacking him a pain barring someone able to stun/freeze him.
** Red Flame Hexos, as you have to escape a constantly adavancing flame while trying to deal damage to him. He'll do various blasts that may leave damaging lava pools around and if you're unfortunate enough to run into a blast, you'll likely end up pushed into the flames, killing you. Furthermore, since the flames advance constantly and they bypass all forms of invincibility, they can kill you easily even if you avoid all of Hexos' attacks if you make the mistake of using any move that takes a long time to execute or moves you forward.
** It's easier to list bosses and minibosses in Otherverse that AREN'T this or a GoddamnedBoss: a large number of them either have attacks that cause a TotalPartyKill if you don't do their gimmicks correctly or are annoying to fight either because you need to fulfill a specific condition to be able to defeat them or because they counter your strongest attacks with ones of their own.
** Don Enzo Sipo, boss of Battle at Arden City. Powerful attacks, loves to break out of combos, and has an annoyingly high amount of health that will take even powerful classes forever to take down. Even worse, once you get him below about 15 bars, he explodes while turning invincible for a few seconds, and then gets a high damage tracking energy ball that leaves a radius of pain where it lands, and a lightning storm that leaves him totally invincible and has hitstun that will almost certainly chain every hit into each other, potentially killing you from full health.
** Aldebain from the Fanatics special dungeon. He has nigh-permanent super armor, and once his HP is low enough, he turns invincible and summons 4 bulky mobs. If you can't kill them all in time, then he blows up the entire room, instantly killing you.
*** There is a trick that takes out a great deal of difficulty, involving clearing out the pots in the lower right hand corner and using it as a safe spot, where afterwards, he ends up not doing much.
** Quatro Manus in King's Library has massive amounts of HP, his only weak points are his arms that are only vulnerable for short perioids of time, he can't be stunned or thrown due to being a BackgroundBoss and he spawns turrets that constantly spawn lingering energy balls. To add to this, his easiest-to-counter attack are his punches, but once he loses half of his life, he stops using that attack and won't take any more damage until he retracts his arm. What's worse, apparently the fight as it is is glitched and is thus unintentionally easier than it is in other versions: after his life is reduced to half, indestructable debris is meant to fall from the ceiling, trapping the player in the middle of the arena and making his attacks harder to avoid. This is assuming the boss doesn't just stop and do nothing, forcing an exit.
** Human Betrayer Finver in Fiend War is this to most endgame players. His battle in general? Imagine a 4v1 PVP match, with the party of 1 having permanent super armor. There's ''one'' gimmick to wait out for any sort of lengthy damage window, and it takes several minutes to appear. Trying to beat him before then with a party lacking in holds is an exercise in frustration even when being generally overgeared for the raid. As a rule of thumb, most Fiend War raids make it a point to avoid wasting time fighting Finver altogether if possible.
** Isys-Prey raid has a few:
*** Moonbow Eike is arguably the most annoying Intercept boss. The Intercept dungeon is meant to have [[MiniBoss mini-bosses]] that are [[ConservationOfNinjutsu plenty but relatively easier and less tanky]]. The other two bosses encountered here fit the bill, but Eike single-handedly makes this dungeon annoying by having [[MultipleHealthBars seven health bars]] (one for each color of the rainbow), annoying attacks, and an even more annoying extremely slow "teleport" that's completely invincible, which is detrimental to the time-sensitive nature of the raid. Raids that start off with [[https://www.reddit.com/r/DFO/comments/ehij1b/just_ignore_the_deer/ a majority of Intercept being Eike]] are dreaded by even veterans.
*** As far as Sanctum bosses go, Archer Alexandra's gimmick seems relatively simple -- get her to [[HoistByHisOwnPetard get hit by her own yellow crystal arrows]] as they're coming down on a targeted player one-by-one. The problem with this is that she moves quickly all over the place and she's immune to holds and crowd control effects (e.g. moves that drag enemies around), making this particular gimmick harder than it should be.
*** For raid parties skirting the cutline, Plunderer Rossol is another annoying Sanctum boss to deal with. It's a giant bat ([[GoddamnedBats appropriately enough]]) that searches for its targets via echolocation. This is represented by a yellow circle that shrinks the more players move around or attack, with standing still and a special pickup being the only two ways to enlarge it. That would be all well and good, except its berserk attack runs on a timer, so players can't just hold still and dodge and attack when appropriate. Lastly, it's protected by a pendant that prevents damage to its actual health bar and if the party lets Rossol use its berserk attack, the pendant's shield gets restored to full health.
*** The Japanese ''Arad Senki'' version has a [[PaletteSwap palette-swapped]] version of Golden Wing Tritura for their version-exclusive Isys-Prey Hard Mode, developed as a response to the perceived criticism of the support classes' lack of damage output. Their solution? Said boss can literally only be damaged by support classes. Both sides of the pond agree that it's probably the most ham-fisted, tone-deaf solution to a problem ''any'' version of DFO has come up with.
* ThatOneLevel:
** Dendroid Hub is filled with tons of [[GoddamnedBats really annoying monsters]]. For one, the Dendroids themselves cannot be launched or grabbed, meaning fewer moves are effective on them. If that weren't bad enough, there are camouflaged versions of them that blend into the background doodads which like to attack without warning, knocking you over and granting them super armor. The problem with the attack is that it's supposed to bend in with the ground flowers and you trip one to activate it, but the collision can be way off and you'll get attacked even if you weren't touching a flower. If that weren't enough, there's also the Flare Worms, zombies whose only attack consists of granting themselves super armor, grabbing you, and gnawing on you for about 5 seconds, which cannot be escaped by mashing buttons or anything else, and can cause bleeding. To make this [[FromBadToWorse even worse]], this attack knocks you down when it finally finishes, which can be disorienting. Oh, and they like to travel in packs, so you can get stun locked into endless attacks. Finally, they leave a puddle of acid which slows you down and damages you when they die. The boss, Amphora, is mostly a pushover, save for when its HP gets low, where it will set itself on fire and start moving and attacking much faster, and do heavy damage to anyone that gets too close to attack it.
** The post-Metastasis version adds Centaur mages, which depending on the type can easily summon lightning or ground spikes beneath you. If you get there using a blimp, they're scriped to use an unavoidable attack that destroys it instantly. The spearmen and the Centaur boss aren't so bad in comparison.
** Within Anton raid, the Durable Leg dungeon is arguably harder than the final dungeon, Black Volcano. The second room of Durable Leg contains a small group of zombies and four magic circles on the ground. Players need to kill the zombies such that their bodies land on the circles. This is the only way to get the miniboss wandering the room to become vulnerable, and if not done correctly in time, [[TotalPartyKill a meteor wipes out the entire party]]. It's very hard to recover from doing this gimmick correctly, even with the fact that the zombies revive themselves periodically - only a handful of classes can save a botched run by dragging dead zombies around with certain skills.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Players who have spent a long time playing Creator/{{Nexon}}-era ''DFO'' generally don't like the game's present-day game design, shifting away from a meta where being good at the game's BeatEmUp elements was rewarding (e.g. juggle combos) and instead focusng on timed damaged windows and bosses that are ImmuneToFlinching, making them play more like a ''VideoGame/MonsterHunter'' encounter rather than a traditional beat-'em-up. These people often blame [[ExecutiveMeddling management]] pushing a paradigm shift to raids above all else. These same people also tend to share complaints with new players regarding the game's difficulty pre-endgame (see ItsEasySoItSucks above).
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks:
** Any class that gets the {{Nerf}} bat is inevitably going to get this reaction. Special mention goes to Neople's systematic gutting of support classes in an effort to make raid content less of a cakewalk, which has obviously ''not'' gone well with support players.
** People are already declaring ''[[https://mmos.com/news/thingsoft-developing-unreal-engine-powered-sequel-dungeon-fighter-online Project D]]'' dead on arrival despite the only things of note being a 3D model of the male Slayer and female Fighter briefly appearing in one trailer. DFO fans fear that the game will turn into yet another generic Korean 3D MMO (the devs wanting to "demonstrate 3D dungeon design that utilizes the 3D effect and transcends the limitation of lateral scrolling" did nothing to dissuade these fears), and the one thing developing studio Thingsoft is known for is their [[{{Vaporware}} glacial development pace]] for their more well-known MMO, ''Peria Chronicles''. Lastly, fans will cite the ill-fated TwoPointFiveD mobile game spinoff ''[=DnF Spirit=]'' as another reason why ''Project D'' will inevitably fail.
** ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RG8Y254L5Q Project BBQ]]'' has gotten a similar treatment not even one day after the trailer's release, with long-time players comparing the gameplay unfavorably to VideoGame/{{Kritika}} and generally against the fact that it's no longer a side-scrolling beat-em-up.
** The level 100 cap update introduced Mythic items and Epic sets with more varied effects in the name of build diversity, which sounds good on paper, but in practice ended up reverting the game to how Epics worked in level 85 cap (that is to say, one meta set dominates over the rest of them). The update also did away with the easier gearing progression introduced in 95 cap, once again going back to farming Hell Mode and having to contend with the RandomNumberGod. Needless to say, players were not pleased.
** Some players who were around during the very early days of the game resent the fact that the game has shifted away from its more skill-based aspects in favor of RocketTagGameplay and classes getting increasing amounts of AreaOfEffect screen nukes and skills designed to make everything die faster rather than offering gameplay diversity.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: The Season 4 remade version of Sky Tower introduces a brand-new section where the player runs around the fragmented exterior of the tower. This is the one and only instance in the entire game where rather than the level layout being static, the entire building geometry rotates as you run around it in a similar style to Butter Building from ''VideoGame/KirbysAdventure''. For some reason, this effect is never seen again and it's not even a proper level even though it looks really damn cool.
* ToughActToFollow: Female Slayer; none of the characters after her really met with the same popularity overall that she did.
* ViewerGenderConfusion:
** [[{{Bifauxnen}} Zeldine Schneider]], the confusion has lessened after the season 2 update as other [=NPCs=] described her as a {{Tomboy}} and uses the female gunner model when she appears as an APC. The innaccuracy extends to her being a pistol using Spitfire when her art shows her with a prosthetic hand cannon arm.
** Some players occasionally mistake Creator as a boy because of her [[HatesWearingDresses default]] [[BoyishShortHair appearance]] and deeper voice compared to her female Mage counterparts.
