----
* AccidentalInnuendo: Krillin's line after hearing Trunks's BadassBoast was "[[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome Badass]]." However, what a lot of viewers heard was [[StupidSexyFlanders "That Ass"]], which admittedly made an awesome moment into a funny moment.
* {{Adorkable}}:
** Like in the original series, Goku is an endearingly-simpleminded goofball.
** Krillin at times.
*** His awkward attempts to hit on Android 18 are most definitely this.
*** He makes laser noises in his head whenever he fires ki blasts. [[NotSoAboveItAll Trunks ends up emulating him]].
** Vegeta has a moment like this in the Broly special when he basically fanboys over the Legendary Super Saiyan... until Broly starts ignoring him and yelling "Kakarot" over and over.
** Future Trunks is badass, but adorkable nevertheless. He gets hilariously awkward when meeting Goku.
** The Ginyu Force are practically even more than the original versions.
** Android 17 surprisingly. He's still a SmugSnake, but when he comments that he hopes that they get to drive a truck, he's this in ''spades''. He's pretty disappointed when Vegeta blows up the truck that came around the corner.
*** When they fail to find Goku at his home and they decide to go to Kame House, he wants to use a boat. Then when we see him after being resurrected at the end of the Cell Saga, he comments he never got that boat.
*** Additionally, he comments that Piccolo's Hellzone Grenade has a cool name just before getting hit by it.
---->'''Android 17''': Aw man, it's even got a cool name...
*** Even more so, as he finds Android 16's rocket punch awesome. His sister begs to disagree.
** Android 18 as well. Her interactions with Krillin in Episode 51 pushes her into this. Cemented in [[Recap/DragonShortZE3 her first date with Krillin]], where she's just as much of a dork as he is.
** Broly's base form is like a combination of [[Franchise/NeonGenesisEvangelion Shinji]] and [[Franchise/RickAndMorty Morty]], speaking in a quiet voice and acting rather awkwardly around people. He is a special boy.
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation:
** Is Nappa really evil, or [[PsychopathicManchild is he just too stupid to know right from wrong]]? Alternatively, is he really dumb or [[ObfuscatingStupidity does he actually understand things, but maintains a fool's guise to distract Vegeta from the mass genocide of their race?]]
** Was Ghost Nappa real, or was he a figment of Vegeta's imagination? [[WordOfGod Lani and Kaiser]] have stated that [[ShrugOfGod they have purposefully left ambiguous which is true]], and to this day even ''they'' don't know.
** Also, is Goku really as dumb as he lets on?
--->'''Goku:''' We have to wait on the Hypertonic Lion Tamer!\
'''Mr. Popo:''' That one was on purpose!\
'''Goku:''' Coulda been.
*** Also this little bit.
---->'''Goku:''' Well, I still got the Spirit Bomb, but I need both arms to charge it. You'll have to distract him while I gather energy.\
'''Piccolo:''' Well, that's not so ba--\
'''Goku:''' --for five minutes. And considering how bad he was kicking ''my butt''... ehh, I'm sure you can handle it.\
'''Piccolo:''' Did...you just hold a grudge?
** Episode 60 would finally answer the question. [[spoiler:Goku is an idiot, yes. But, he’s a tactical genius. If he considers what he’s doing as one big fight, he can manipulate everyone to the point of being legitimately scary and make the entire saga work how he was planning. But he’s still an idiot, so he never realized his plan would deeply traumatize his own son, something Piccolo has to make clear to him. To his credit, this is what leads to his HeroicSacrifice.]]
** Mr. Satan, like in the original, takes the credit for defeating Cell. His reasons for doing so are a bit more ambiguous here, however. Is he, like in the original, a GloryHound who's just taking advantage of the debacle to make himself look good? Or is he just trying to ease the worries of the panicking people of the Earth? Note that Mr. Satan seemed unsure of how to respond when asked what happened to Cell, and only took the credit after Jimmy Firecracker stressed to him that his fans were rioting. The Creator Commentary for Episode 60 Part 1 has the three suggest the latter, where Mr. Satan's FlatEarthAtheist explanations are done to reassure people that their lives aren't in danger (which Larry and Jimmy support as things escalate).
** In the Buu Bits snippets is Sharpner good-naturedly teasing people or is he doing it just to insult them and just hiding behind the claim that they know he loves him?
** Is Paragus as much of an AbusiveParent here as he is in canon? Even the members of Team Four Star debate this in their episode commentary. On the one hand, Paragus abandons Broly to die on New Vegeta once he's assured his plot against Vegeta will succeed. On the other, the Abridged version doesn't use a PowerLimiter to control Broly, knows that once Broly is triggerred he can't really be controlled, and can reasonably assume Broly will survive New Vegeta's destruction (like he did for Old Vegeta). Team Four Star point out that him pleading with Goku to stop trying to figure out Broly's trigger word could be read a few different ways; genuine concern for his son's well-being, self-preservation because Broly is so dangerous when triggered, or exasperation just because trying to de-escalate Broly when he gets going is really annoying.
* AluminumChristmasTrees:
** Raditz's line to Piccolo after he loses his arm in Episode 2 "Aw, excuse me, has anyone seen my arm? You can't miss it- it's green!" was actually a line from the Ocean dub lifted wholesale, specifically because [=Vegeta3986=] loved that line.
** Some fans were surprised to learn that "Jimmy Firecracker" is actually his canon name and not something Team Four Star came up with. This is supported in the Creator Commentary when they found a Monopoly tie-in game with ''DBZ'' that featured Jimmy as one of the "properties" that can be bought in-game.
** Quite a few people had no idea that Piccolo's [[{{Narm}} motivational speech]] after fusing with Nail for the first time was actually taken from both the Ocean and [=FUNimation=] dubs... at least until Nail interrupts him in the abridged version.
** Go onto any video of ''Series/TattooedTeenageAlienFightersFromBeverlyHills'', read the comments section, and see how many people were surprised that Team Four Star didn't make that show up as a joke. [[note]]According to Kaiser, this also applies to TFS themselves: when they were brainstorming the joke and said they needed a really obscure Western {{toku}} series, his husband was the one who suggested ''TTAFFBH'' and the general reaction around the table was "That show exists?!"[[/note]]
** Yamcha's "Cat Loves Food" song was actually in the [=FUNimation=] dub (during his conversation with Bulma, Oolong, and Puar before Mecha-Freeza comes to Earth), a non-sequitur joke so bizarre that TFS just took it and ran with it.
** Several viewers didn't realize that Gohan pissing on Krillin in ''[[Anime/DragonBallZDeadZone Dead Zone]]'' and the FreezeFrameBonus of Goku's nuts exploding after he gets a GroinAttack in ''[[Anime/DragonBallZSuperAndroid13 Super Android 13]]'' were in the original films and not edits by TFS.
* AngstWhatAngst:
** Kid Vegeta just lost his planet, his entire race, and his father, but Nappa, in his wisdom, is taking him to '''Dairy Queen'''. Vegeta agrees, [[DownplayedTrope if only just to get Nappa to shut up]].
--->'''Gohan:''' I'm beginning to think I have issues.
** Bulma isn't very upset about Vegeta being a deadbeat dad who leaves her to raise Trunks alone... because she's one of the richest people in the world and can easily afford help with childcare. Additionally, her natural human fear of death seems to be deeply eroded by the events of her life by the androids’ appearance, given that she actively flies into danger just because she wants to see it, with her baby. But, death has no consequence, and there’s actually a rewards card system for dying a lot.
* AntiClimaxBoss: [[spoiler:Garlic Jr., despite his build-up in the ColdOpen of Episode 31 for his arc, is killed immediately by Mr. Popo without any effort]]. [[ForegoneConclusion Freeza and King Cold followed suit.]]
* SugarWiki/AwesomeArt:
** A fair bit of the original art that Team Four Star has done to fit in with the series, including Ghost Nappa, Revived Nappa as a Producer, but the most impressive was Kid Videl in Episode 59.
** The minute-long video that gives us the origins of Android 16 in Episode 56.
** ''Plan to Eradicate Christmas'' features a lot of original art of the main characters in completely new poses rather than simply taking and editing existing footage.
* AwesomeEgo:
** Vegeta's heart is ''pure, unadulterated badass''. Well, so ''he'' claims - [[spoiler:he went Super Saiyan by throwing a temper tantrum]].
** Freeza is of the CreepyAwesome type. He's a flippant {{Sadist}} towards everyone and has some of the coldest lines of the series and more than enough power to back all that ego.
** Perfect Cell is even more smug than Vegeta, but he manages to make it work.
---> [[BadassBoast "You're either perfect,]] [[IronicEcho or you're not me."]]
** [[AdaptationalPersonalityChange Unlike his canon counterpart]], Abridged's version of Mr. Popo is extremely egotistical, but his status as TheDreaded and being the most powerful being in the series [[WordOfGod (per TFS' claims)]] makes him more than able to back it up.
** Recoome, who's a lot more [[LargeHam hammy and theatric]] than his canon counterpart (which is saying something), yet he's so confident in his fighting moves that it's awesome to watch.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: [[AwesomeMusic/DragonBallZAbridged Has its own page]].
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment:
** ''Episode of Bardock'' seems to be a BigLippedAlligatorMoment in-universe.
** The ending of Episode 12 where not only Krillin wonders whether he is in a dream and got scared by Mr. Popo, but also a live-action sequence of [=KaiserNeko=] being frightened of Mr. Popo. This is never referenced again in the next episode.
** When Kaiser decided to have Cell Scat ([[{{Scatting}} the type of singing]], not...[[{{Squick}} other things]]) out of nowhere in the episode breakdown, which is especially jarring since the humor in breakdowns tends to be accidental or technical, not intended.
** Episode 45 starts with Goku accidentally throwing Chi-Chi into space just after a heartwarming reunion, even combusting during it. The next scene, she's fine with no explanation, LampshadeHanging nor even any mention of this incident.
** A [[NightmareFuel particularly chilling example]] in the epilogue of Episode 60. As Android 17 starts calmly taunting an old man about his [[ImmuneToBullets attempts at killing him being futile]], he starts to talk in a VoiceOfTheLegion. This is for no reason, and it's never brought up again.
** The mentions of Bojack in Episodes 5 and 6 got turned into this when the abridged version of Movie 9 was canceled. That is, until Bojack ends up appearing in the follow-up spin-off series ''WebAnimation/{{HFIL}}''.
** The scene of Bulma drinking Namekian salt water and collapsing comes of as this in the abridged version since in the source material, it was supposed to be the scene where Ginyu switched bodies with Bulma but since he died in this version, it ended up being a completely random moment that has no bearing on the plot at all. The creator's commentary for that episode the scene was featured in has a simple explanation for the scene existing at all: it allowed the action that took up 90% of the episode to take a breather for a quick, comedic moment.
* BrokenBase:
** The "Goku is a Bad Father" RunningGag and Gohan's resentment of such by extension. Some people like it for being an effective DeconstructiveParody that both makes light of and shows the realistic consequences of growing up with a fighting-obsessed StockShonenHero for a father. Others find it unfunny due to being an annoying case of {{Flanderization}} on Goku's end, or because it makes Gohan come off as {{Wangst}}y since many of the instances of Goku not being around were beyond his control. It doesn't help that the interpretation of Goku being a lousy parent [[ParodyDisplacement skyrocketed after this series called attention to it]].
** The ''Broly'' special was pretty well-liked, but some fans took issue with Team Four Star really hammering their dislike for [[CreatorsPest Broly]], taking pot shots at his fans, and ending the special with an uncomfortable gag with Chi-Chi demanding a divorce.
** There's a minor disagreement over the series serious moments (mostly the Cell saga). For some, they're very well done, for others, having an abridged series go into straight drama, sometimes including scenes devoid of jokes, feels out of place, even if the execution is solid. In fact, the [[FixFic "serious fixing"]] mentality can come across as ''Abridged'' trying to be its own official take of the series, which had the side effect of some folks claiming is better than the original series (not even dub, the ''series''), much to the creators regret.
* CantUnHearIt: Quite a few viewers have reported imagining dialogue in TFS's voices rather than those of one of the official dubs, which is quite a feat, given how well-established the latter are.
* CatharsisFactor:
** Freeza hasn't changed one bit in this series, so it's both incredibly hilarious and satisfying to see Goku beat him up and make him lose his temper, all while his taunts go right over Goku's head.
** While she is technically a villain, seeing Android 18 deliver a humiliating NoHoldsBarredBeatdown to Vegeta can feel very satisfying to watch given his sexism towards her and abusive attitude towards his own son.
** Just like in the original series, Gohan becoming a Super Saiyan 2 and wrecking Cell also feels very cathartic given how many people Cell has killed and how smug he acts after achieving his Perfect form. Watching Cell suffer a VillainousBreakdown is both hilarious and awesome.
** Three regarding Trunks:
*** When Vegeta decides to let Cell absorb 18 to achieve his Perfect form, Trunks finally has enough of his father's crap. He knocks Vegeta on his ass and tries to stop Cell from getting to 18. He fails, but seeing Trunks standing up to Vegeta is very satisfying.
*** Killing the Androids 17 and 18 of his timeline. Extra points for [[HorrifyingTheHorror getting 17 to feel fear]].
*** Killing his timeline's version of Cell while taunting him.
** Yamcha taunting Vegeta about getting his spine broken by Cell. It's somewhat undercut by him having to run away afterwards, but it's still satisfying to see someone get to Vegeta.
** Tien's rage-fueled barrage against Cell in episode 48 is this for those who hate how much the human characters got OvershadowedByAwesome.
* CharacterRerailment: An Abridged version to the point of {{Flanderization}}. Goku's personality is mostly based on the manga counterpart's tendencies of being a BloodKnight by always seeking challenges while knowing it could risk the Earth for the sake of a good fight, which according to Creator/AkiraToriyama, is a slip of poison to his character. Anime!Goku is similar, but he comes off as more heroic than he actually is, especially when friends and family are endangered. Abridged!Goku is heavily influenced by his manga personality, but is a lot more interested in fighting than proper quality time with Gohan (a flaw that Piccolo points out). It isn't until Gohan's torture by Cell that he realizes that he went too far. As [=KaiserNeko=] points out, it's not that Goku ''is'' a bad parent. He isn't ''mentally-equipped'' to be one.
* CrackPairing:
** Intentionally with Bulma and Vegeta, to make fun of what an unlikely pairing they were in the original.
** ''History of Trunks'' has Bulma and Adult Gohan, though it's one-sided on her part. [[note]]Kaiser Neko reveals they recorded an alternative version where Gohan does sleep with Bulma, but decided in the end against the inclusion[[/note]]
** Starting with the first Cooler movie, ''DBZA'' have made Korin and Yajirobe into a couple, even creating original animation for the Broly movie so they could have a wedding reception.
** Also, in the Broly movie, ''DBZA'' gave us Broly and Future Trunks, although it's a one-sided [[VillainousCrush crush]] on Broly's part.
** According to hbi2k on the Broly Release Livestream, fans on Twitter began shipping Piccolo and Chi-Chi after the Broly movie ended with the latter wanting a divorce from Goku.
** Perfect Cell and Goku, with the two displaying FoeRomanceSubtext and their dialogue often seemingly like [[InterplayOfSexAndViolence flirting]]. This is especially the case with Cell who has [[StalkerWithACrush a deep obsession with]] Goku and seems to want him in an intimate sense.
* CrazyIsCool: Goku might be much dumber than his source material counterpart, but it makes him no less badass, and sometimes actually more so.
* CreepyAwesome:
** Freeza has a very sadistic [[EvilHasABadSenseOfHumor sense of dark humor]], yet he retains [[FauxAffablyEvil an air of sophistication]] but is also downright terrifying with how he kills.
** Cell, especially in his Imperfect Form. On top of being a people eater, loves throwing in [[RapeIsASpecialKindOfEvil rape]] innuendos as he absorbs others. His Semiperfect form isn't much better in this regard where his obsession with Android 18 borderlines on being a StalkerWithACrush.
** Mr. Popo. Everyone is [[TheDreaded terrified]] of him. The cast has confirmed that only King Zen-o is above him in terms of power.
* CrossesTheLineTwice:
** Mr. Popo saying "Oh, look at that. A woman who doesn't know any better" about Bulma? Probably sexist. Mr. Popo saying the exact same thing about Krillin immediately afterwards? Definitely funny.
** "We here at Team Four Star do not condone child violence. We do, however, find it hilarious."
** The ''Christmas Tree of Might'' special is especially full of this, between all the rape/molestation jokes (three words: "I raped Rudolph," and Krillin saying the only mall Santas worse than Slay are the ones that molest kids, with Slay replying that that makes him the worst mall Santa).
** The orphans on the mirror spaceship [[BetterToDieThanBeKilled taking suicide pills]] when they see that their blasters [[GunsAreWorthless have no effect on Krillin and Gohan]].
** Goku trying to wake his son after Recoome has snapped his neck with a kick:
--->"Maybe he'll wake up if I shake him some more..."
** Freeza's FantasticRacism is exaggerated to comical degrees. With probably the most hilarious example being his speech about the [[SpaceJews Clorfors]].
** Freeza effortlessly tearing off Nail's arm is scary. Freeza letting Nail grow it back and then doing it ''again'', with a cheerful "Yoink!" is ''hilarious''.
** Freeza impaling [[spoiler:Krillin (and raising Krillin's "Owned Count" to 15)]]. At first, it's gruesome. Then it gets funny [[spoiler:when it hits 20 and Freeza begins getting one-up points from it]].
--->'''Gohan:''' [[spoiler:Krillin, stop, you're making him stronger!]]\
'''Krillin:''' [[spoiler:I... CAN'T... HELP... IT!! GAH!!]]
*** And then in ''Dragon Ball Z Kai Abridged'', Freeza flashes rainbow colors accompanied by the ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros1'' star music.
** Freeza taking on Vegeta does this rather frequently.
--->'''Freeza:''' Kidney punch, kidney punch, kidney punch, kidney punch, and pause[[{{Beat}} ...]] kidney punch!
** Freeza desperately trying to keep his organs inside of his body after getting cut in half. Crosses even further when Goku unleashes a HurricaneOfPuns.
** Krillin's Chiaotzu impression before he [[spoiler:gets blown up by Freeza in a deleted scene]].
--->'''Krillin:''' Goodbye, Tien!
** The Yamcha from Trunks' timeline [[spoiler:[[DiesDifferentlyInAdaptation hung himself]]]], which is either this or just plain tasteless. Also Bulma and Vegeta [[spoiler:having audible sex]] later in the same episode. Especially the [[PrecisionFStrike aftermath]].
*** Even better, the alternate take reveals that TFS originally had it so [[spoiler:Future Yamcha used Future Puar ''[[VoluntaryShapeShifting as the rope]]'']]!
** Any and all interactions between Vegeta and Future Trunks in the Android / Cell saga tend to have at least an element of this, given Vegeta's [[HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood hilariously abusive]] treatment of his son. It takes a special kind of asshole to tell your own son to his face "I don't listen to bastards", and hearing it prompts a final shift from Piccolo being a DrillSergeantNasty to Gohan to basically being a better father to him than Goku, just so he doesn't turn out like Trunks and Vegeta.
** Chi-Chi reading the disclaimer while Goku is ''screaming in agony'' in the background.
** Cell coughing up a [[EatsBabies pacifier]] is horrifying. Complaining about how embarrassing that is and that it came out of the wrong hole is hilarious.
** Making an abortion joke out of killing Baby!Cell, then having Krillin brag about it.
** This exchange with Android 18 after she plants a kiss on Krillin's cheek:
--->'''Android 17:''' If you wanted to piss off Mom and Dad, why didn't you just date a black guy?\
'''Android 18:''' Oh my god...\
'''Android 17:''' Oh, that's right. They're dead.\
'''Android 18:''' ''Oh my God!''
** In the ''History of Trunks'' movie, TJ and the Wombat announce that Wombat's getting married, only for Wombat to reveal that his fiancée is currently in the city that the Androids are attacking, and that she's almost certainly dead. He follows this up with a segment of Chopin's famous Funeral March being played on an organ, which is cut off by a highly suggestive female moan (which had been interspersed throughout the radio segment)-- followed by cheerfully announcing that he's single again.
** Pretty much ''anything'' this series' version of [[RacistGrandpa Dr. Briefs]] says counts, especially when Season 3 rolls around. His line "You can't kidnap an orphan, they weren't wanted in the first place!" gets Taka to compare him to [[WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons Mr. Burns.]]
** Krillin openly declares "That line has been crossed!" after Semi-Imperfect Cell gloats about how Android 18 is [[NotIfTheyEnjoyedItRationalization "practically asking]] [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything to be absorbed"]].
** Hetap sponsoring the Cell Games. Yes. [[RefugeInAudacity Hetap is sponsoring an event that could possibly end the world.]] [[EveryoneHasStandards Even]] ''[[EveryoneHasStandards Cell]]'' [[EveryoneHasStandards is surprised!]]
*** It seems to be their specialty. A few episodes earlier, one of their commercials shows a man murdering another (thankfully off-screen) to take his Hetap.
---->'''Announcer:''' "Hetap! Come on, you've killed for less."\
'''Vegeta:''' ''[thinking]'' "That's not ''un''true..."
** Mr. Satan's inevitable and humiliating defeat. If it was anyone else being smacked into a plateau with a visible blood spatter, it would've been horrifying. But after all the egocentric hype he built up, it's just hilarious.
** The notion of Goku abusing his wife would be horribly unfunny in any circumstance, but when Goku [[PoorCommunicationKills unintentionally implies]] that he's done this[[note]]he claims that he beat his wife (in a martial-arts tournament before they were married), put a baby in her after they were married, and that she now stays at home, cooks, and raises their son (by her own volition)[[/note]] in front of the entire world while he's innocent and cheerfully oblivious saying this all, it's funny for all the worst possible reasons. Bonus points for Chi-Chi [[LampshadeHanging lampshading]] the awful wording.
** In ''Plan to Eradicate Christmas'', the Z-Fighters kill Santa. And Vegeta apparently spent every Christmas Eve of his childhood[[note]]He says he did it until Christmas was replaced with Freeza Day (when Freeza blew up Planet Vegeta)[[/note]] firing ki blasts into the night sky in the hopes of killing Santa Claus, not even caring that the one time he thought he succeeded he'd actually killed his own brother Tarble.
** After Gohan kills all of the Cell Jr.'s, Cell announces that he's going to start referring to Gohan as "whooping cough" because he "just devastated [his] children".
* CryForTheDevil:
** Cooler's sibling rivalry with Freeza. Even Goku can't help but to pause their fight to show him pity for how his father treated him.
** Dr. Gero's obsession with killing Goku becomes somewhat more understandable when Bulma finds out [[spoiler:that his son (whom he built Android 16 to resemble) was among the many Red Ribbon Army soldiers who died when Goku destroyed the organization's HQ]].
* DiscreditedMeme: Lanipator and [=KaiserNeko=] are on record that they refused to add existing ''Dragon Ball Z'' memes on the grounds that it's both done to death or that it's technically stealing. Examples include Goku accidentally deflecting one of Freeza's Death Beams into Vegeta's chest or making Android 16 act exactly like The Terminator.
* DracoInLeatherPants: Downplayed; Nappa still does what he did in the source material, but unlike his canon version, he seems to be completely unaware of what he's doing is bad, and is PlayedForLaughs.
* EnsembleDarkHorse:
** Nappa. It says a lot about the popularity of the character that they're bringing him around post-mortem [[spoiler:(and then back to life, though out of the way)]] solely because of how much he pisses off Vegeta. Lampshaded in ''[[TheAbridgedSeries Dragon Ball Z Kai Abridged]]'' with this quote:
--->'''Nappa:''' I am hilarious and you will quote everything I say.
** Mr. Popo, whose re-characterization as TheDreaded had fans in stitches.
** Dodoria, or at least his[[spoiler:/her]] portrayal as an FauxAffablyEvil GoodOlBoy, seems remarkably popular for such a relatively minor character.
** Zarbon eventually fell under this category, especially after what Episode 17 did to him. He even does the disclaimer opening (granted, [[TonightSomeoneDies in an Episode where he dies]])!
** Pretty much all of the Ginyu Force. Guldo for being an endearing ButtMonkey who gets picked on by Vegeta, Jeice being from [[SpaceX Space Australia]] while being best buds with Burter, and Recoome for being just as [[LargeHam overly top hammy]] as he is in the source material.
** Super Kami Guru. Also lampshaded in ''Dragon Ball Z Kai Abridged'' Episode 2 with his last words:
--->'''Guru:''' I am hilarious... and you will quote... every-thing.. I... s-a-y...
** Despite getting his ass handed to him in the fight against Freeza, Nail still managed to be completely badass and is one of the few people to actually piss him off and live. Well, [[FusionDance sort of]].
** Cooler, due to being a [[NoNonsenseNemesis legitimately competent and badass villain]]. Also, his dislike for his younger brother has never been more understandable in any other version. And of course this line from the Bardock special:
--->'''Cooler:''' "[[RunningGag Because I'm a prick.]]"
** Android 19 is extremely loved. He appears to have the voice of [[MachineMonotone Windows LH Michael]] and his dialogue is very full of computer jargon, while making constant jokes about computer technical problems, which is absolutely hilarious. Not to mention his voice is a lot less annoying than the source material.
** Tien, who was made into a MemeticBadass in this series. Kikoho-ing Cell is hailed as one of the most badass moments in the show, then there's him being a constant troll to everyone. All this made Tien into a fan favorite.
** Yamcha, believe or not, in season 3. In the first season, he was just written as an arrogant, all-talk-no-bite kinda guy, but [[CharacterizationMarchesOn come the third season]], he's much more calm and reserved, and one of the few actually sane characters in the show. Not only that, but most of the others always treating him like shit, even worse than Krillin, to the point that he was DrivenToSuicide in Trunks' timeline, earned him some major [[TheWoobie Woobie]] points. Many viewers are clamoring for him to [[ThrowTheDogABone get a win for once]]. Cell at least has the decency to treat him like an actual friend (though notes he was on the Cell Games' list as "half-time entertainment").
--->'''Yamcha:''' Frankly, I'm just happy to be included.
*** And he did, episode 4 of ''WebAnimation/DragonShortZ'' has him earn 20 billion zeni after being forced to retire from Baseball, given he could only win in this sport, and using his money to invest in a successful grill bar.
** Despite not having "officially" appeared in the abridged series, Goku Black is getting immensely popular thanks to [=MasakoX=]'s short but ''evil'' role thanks to this line:
--->'''Goku Black:''' Because Vegeta, [[PreMortemOneLiner a rose by any other name]]--- ''[stabs him]'' ''[[CantCatchUp is still Goku]]''.
** Dr. Wheelo. His AdaptationalHeroism turned him into a genuinely (and strangely) likable WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds AntiVillain.
** Lord Chilled is much more preferred here than over his [[TheScrappy main series counterpart]].
** After Videl's EarlyBirdCameo during TheStinger of Episode 59, a number of commenters mentioned how adorable she was.
** [[MachoCamp Sharpner]] from ''Buu Bits'' has his fair share of fans to due to his sassy demeanor and hilariously snarky comments.
* EsotericHappyEnding: ''Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan Abridged''. Sure, Goku kills Broly and avenges the South Galaxy's destruction, but is South Kai happy? Of course he isn't, because his entire galaxy is ''still'' gone. All King Kai can do is offer a halfhearted apology since there are no Dragon Balls that can wish that many people back to life. [[HilariousInHindsight Or, well, there weren't at the time, since the Super Dragon Balls had yet to be revealed.]]
* EvilIsCool: Cooler, due to being highly intelligent, assuming that Goku is still alive because his henchmen NeverFoundTheBody, and is much stronger than Freeza.
* FranchiseOriginalSin: Some viewers were put off by how Yamcha started getting more viciously mistreated starting in the Android Saga. The thing was, Yamcha was always TheChewToy. However, when [=Vegeta3986=] still played him, Yamcha was portrayed as cocky, self-absorbed, unfaithful to Bulma, and regularly made homophobic jokes at Tien and Chiaotzu's expenses, which made his beatdowns LaserGuidedKarma. However, once Faulerro started doing the voice, Yamcha [[TookALevelInKindness took a sudden level in kindness]] and is a lot less overconfident, making him more of a DesignatedMonkey.
* GeniusBonus:
** The Namekian language spoken is actually Klingon.
** Piccolo saying that a group of Namekians is called a "cornucopia" might seem like they picked a random word for the sake of humor, but that's the ''actual'' term for a group of slugs.
** During his nightmare in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Chi-Chi tells Gohan that being able to prove or disprove the Riemann Hypothesis is more important than saving the world. The Riemann Hypothesis is one of the greatest unsolved problems of mathematical theory; Chi-Chi is basically demanding that Gohan be able to win a Nobel Prize rather than defeat Cell.
* GenreTurningPoint: Prior to ''DBZA'', most AbridgedSeries tended to run on wacky NoFourthWall humor, general disregard for the actual plot of the series, [[ShoutOut Shout Outs]], exaggerated {{Flanderization}} of characters, being often devoted to making [[TakeThat Take That's]] at whatever official dubs of the series exist. In contrast, ''DBZA'' (from the second season onwards) instead moved towards more low-key, character driven humor that tried to retain most of the drama of the actual plot while making genuine attempts [[FixFic to improve upon the original.]] Nowadays, modern abridged series, such as ''WebVideo/SwordArtOnlineAbridged'', use this formula instead.
** Not only that, but this shift in writing and tone inspired their friend and fellow castmate, Little Kuriboh, to do similar changes in Season 3 of ''Yugioh Abridged''. He's even said so himself on social media. That's interesting, considering he was the person who started the Abridged Series genre.
* GrowingTheBeard: ''Dragon Ball Z Abridged'' doesn't just grow the beard, but it grows it over and over again, getting just a bit longer every time.
** The series started off as a simple {{flanderization}} of several characters, with the occasional [[BreakingTheFourthWall fourth wall-breaking]] and one-time gags. Ever since season 2 however, the characters became more distinct, the jokes became more structured and original, and the fourth-wall breaking stopped. Not to mention that the editing and voice acting have greatly improved. If one had to pick a point where the shift ''really'' became noticable, it would probably be around Episode 13. Season 3 then goes above and beyond with every episode making a sincere effort to retain the drama of the original story while still being funny, even including some quite moving original material like Kami's speech about exactly why he's so hesitant to rejoin with Piccolo.
** Also mentioned in the [[Awesome/DragonBallZAbridged awesome page]]. ''The World's Strongest'' may be the crowning achievement of this evolution. They did a good work while editing and dubbing it, managing to change most of the plot, including the ending, and going to extensive effort to make sure the changes blended almost seamlessly with the original footage. The movie also features some genuinely sad moments, as well as some heartwarming ones (the biggest example may be [[spoiler:Gohan being able to convince the [[TheWoobie woobie]] AntiVillain [[AdaptationalHeroism Doctor Wheelo]] to do a HeelFaceTurn and then the gang gathering the Dragon Balls to give him a new body]]). Although ''History of Trunks'' could also qualify.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** Android 16's "Kill Goku" mantra takes a whole new level of "dark": [[spoiler:Gero's real son sends a video call to him, who he hasn't seen for a long time, with him suggesting "Cyborgs" to be a preferred term rather than "Artificial humans". However, near the end of the video, kid Goku attacks the Red Ribbon base, with him being a casualty]]. Given what Dr. Gero did to avenge [[spoiler:his death]] makes Gero's real goal even more disturbing... yet also more understandable at the same time.
** During episode Episode 42, Trunks sticks his hand inside imperfect Cell's molt and gets rightly grossed out. He then asks Gohan if he carries hand sanitizer, to which Gohan replies with "Do you not?". Originally intended as a joke about how Chi-Chi is MyBelovedSmother, but fast forward 6 years and the UsefulNotes/COVID19Pandemic makes this hit quite differently.
** In ''Christmas Tree of Might'', Gohan mentions to everyone, Yamcha included that suicide rates go up during the holidays. Then they all laugh about it. [[spoiler:And later it's revealed that Yamcha committed suicide when he learnt of Bulma's pregnancy by Vegeta in the BadFuture.]]
** During the Freeza Saga, Freeza has a minor tantrum about being reminded of his failures, with Piccolo snarkily replies with "What, your failure in killing me?" Guess what happens in ''Anime/DragonBallSuper''?
** Speaking of ''Super'', Korin and Yajirobe's [[HappilyMarried relationship]] is [[SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments very sweet]] and remains that way for this series. However, the aforementioned ''Super'' reveals that [[spoiler:Yajirobe was one of the people who survived in Future Trunks' timeline, but Korin didn't]]. Poor guy...
** Towards the end of ''Bardock: Father of Goku'' and beginning of ''Cooler's Revenge'', there's a scene where Cooler, watching Freeza destroy Planet Vegeta, sarcastically comments "Killing off a bunch of monkeys; any liquored-up hillbilly with a shotgun could have done that at the zoo." After 2016 and the death of Harambe, the gorilla at the Cincinnati Zoo when animal control were forced to shoot Harambe when a child fell into the gorilla enclosure, this joke gets a whole lot darker.
** Shortly after the release of ''Super Android 13 Abridged'' containing a few jokes about terrorists, came the November 13, 2015 attacks in Paris.
** We have pretty much a world record with the ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'' short "Burning Blue" with Trunks cleaving Merged Zamasu in half with his Spirit Sword. Shortly after, [[spoiler:Zamasu is NotQuiteDead and kills mostly everyone in Future Trunks' timeline.]] [[BlackComedy Though if you want to]] [[HilariousInHindsight be really dark about it…]]
** Broly's sexually aggressive remarks towards a ''clearly'' non-receptive Trunks can be uncomfortable nowadays, since Broly's English VA in the official dub, Creator/VicMignogna, later faced accusations of sexual misconduct.
** Goku reassuring Gohan in the Broly Movie about how his movie is next becomes this, as [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlzF5ettugs TFS revealed]] that they've cancelled Bojack because of how little of the villain there was to work with, and that they're getting slightly burned out from their abridging. On the other hand, it could also be seen as HilariousInHindsight considering how often Gohan gets screwed over after the Cell Saga, with him getting his own movie cancelled as just another shot at his expense.
*** Also from the Broly movie, it's a bit awkward that the whole movie's climax with the Spirit Bomb is resolved due to the characters (clearly reflecting TFS' own experience) getting burned out on dealing with Broly... when Kaiser revealed just how burnt out they really were behind the scenes working on the Bojack movie.
*** That being said, now that Bojack managed to come back in the SequelSeries spin-off ''HFIL'', this ends up all becoming HilariousInHindsight as well. Episode 10 of said series would confirm that ''Anime/DragonBallZBojackUnbound'' did happen off-screen, keeping the details of what happened to the bare minimum, allowing Bojack to be unbound from his special and allowed to be a jovial space pirate.
** In the Android 13 movie, we see Goten get {{retgone}} after Goku got hit in the balls. After Team Four Star announced that they wouldn't be abridging the Buu Saga, the joke became a lot darker.
*** Likewise, all the jokes regarding Goten's existence, such as Goku's non-answer to Chi-Chi's request for another baby or "Go for ten! Go for ten!", becomes this with the cancellation of ''DBZA''. Though at least ''WebAnimation/DragonShortZ'' showed Goten's birth.
*** Luckily, the pain is mitigated by the existence of ''Buu's Bits'', which adapts select scenes from Buu Saga, which are included in Totally Not Mark's review on the Buu Saga.
** ''History of Trunks'' has people going around as usual, unconcerned about the danger of the Cyborgs until it affects them directly, by which time it’s too late. As [=KaiserNeko=] says in the developer’s commentary, it’s far too believable in a post-[[UsefulNotes/COVID19Pandemic COVID]] world.
** Goku lamenting the death of a bird that he calls "[[Creator/AkiraToriyama Toriyama]]" in ''Revenge of Cooler'' is a lot harder to stomach as Akira Toriyama himself passed away on March 1st, 2024.
** In a similar vein, the Abridged Broly movie's off hand comment of how Dr Wheelo died of brain cancer becomes this when Takashi Matusayama, a former assistant, confirmed that Toriyama had been suffering from a brain tumor for a year prior to his passing.
* HeartwarmingInHindsight:
** Dr. Gero's oddly protective attitude towards Android 16 takes on new significance with the revelation that the android is modeled on his dead son.
** Early on in the Saiyan Saga, Nappa mentions that everyone important to (Gohan) is dead, totally dismissing Krillin. Come ''History of Trunks Abridged'', and Krillin is one of the people Gohan remembered fondly enough to go Super Saiyan when he died.
** Vegeta is noted to be proud of Future Trunks as he acted out of his own will rather than harping after Vegeta. The abridged version follows the canon in that Vegeta went absolutely ballistic over his son dying by the hands of Cell, even calling him his baby boy. In the canon, Vegeta hardly acknowledged Trunks as his son, till the above scene.
** If what Cell said about Mr. Satan is true, and he used to be homeless, then Nappa picking him up and making him a star becomes this. He essentially took a random nobody and turned his life around.
* SugarWiki/HeReallyCanAct: Everyone as Season 3 proved with its much more dramatic atmosphere with particular mentions going to [=MasakoX=], Lanipator, [=KaiserNeko=], [=Takahata101=] and [=GanXingBa=].
** Creator/LittleKuriboh got in on this as well with his absolutely chilling portrayal of Freeza in Season 2.
* HilariousInHindsight: Has [[HilariousInHindsight/DragonBallZAbridged its own page]].
* IKnewIt:
** After Freeza's comment on [[spoiler:how Guru can be so fat when Namekians only live on water]], many started to believe that [[spoiler:Guru caused the great drought by simply drinking it all and framed the Albino Namekians for it]]. They were right.
** That the Garlic Jr. Saga [[spoiler:would be covered in only one episode]].
** That Kami, like Nail, would retain his personality as a part of Piccolo. And that he would try the "lower" joke (but Piccolo wouldn't fall for it).
** Jeice was predicted to be specifically from [[SpaceX Space Australia]].
** Guldo is [[ButtMonkey "The Raditz"]] of the Ginyu Force.
** Believe it or not, [[spoiler:Ghost Nappa]] was planned from the very beginning. The fans guessed that it would happen, and they were right!
** The Tom in episode 49 is the same Tom that is (or was) [=MySpace=] friends with Piccolo.
** The ''Buu Bits'' ultimately showed many assumptions fans had about a potential ''DBZA'' version of the Buu Saga. A twofer was the scene where Vegeta sacrifices himself in an attempt to stop Majin Buu; fans assumed that [[spoiler:Vegeta would acknowledge Goku as his "best buddy", and that there would be a CerebusCallBack to the "Vegeta, no!"/"VEGETA YES!" exchange between him and Krillin, but this time while Krillin is attempting in vain to stop him]].
* JerkassWoobie: There's ''a lot'' of assholes that, at one time or another, someone can feel sorry for:
** Vegeta's a horrible man to be sure, but [[CosmicPlaything the sheer amount of abuse he gets put through]] [[RuleOfFunny in the name of comedy]], and the fact that the series suggests [[FreudianExcuse just how broken his formative years with Freeza and Nappa left him]] earns him a few sympathy points.
** In the Ginyu Force. They all are mercenaries who gleefully work for Freeza and do his dirty work. However…
*** Burter is revealed to be deeply insecure, believing that he has absolutely nothing that makes him unique, [[IJustWantToBeSpecial and just wants to be special]]. He claims that he's the fastest in the universe because without it, he's just "that big blue snake guy". Becomes sadder when we learn that this is why Ginyu had him on the team: a tall blue guy to balance out Jeice's short red guy.
*** Jeice becomes this after the death of [[EvenEvilHasLovedOnes his best friend Burter]].
*** [[TheFriendNobodyLikes Guldo]] is looked down on by everybody and, unlike the two former, doesn't even have a friend to show him support.
** Krillin acts insensitively, as well as awful at times, towards a lot of people, but that's because the world is constantly out to get him.
** Then there's Piccolo, who acts cold and aloof but is so insecure and desperate for friends that you kind of feel bad for him. Of course, he has Nail, but he doesn't do anything to help in the most dire of situations.
** Cooler, who's shown to be more responsible, powerful and much less needlessly homicidal than his younger brother, yet aside from [[UndyingLoyalty his minions]] is rarely given the respect he deserves, be it from the main characters or his own family. Even [[TooDumbToLive Goku]] [[CryForTheDevil expresses pity for him]].
** Raditz if you think about it. His father paid little to no attention, his planet was destroyed and he was treated with ridicule by his fellow remaining Saiyans, Nappa and Vegeta, due to him only being as powerful as a Saibaman. Even after he dies he still doesn't get any respect.
--->'''Raditz:''' I... hate... ''all of you''.
** Dende. He tells Freeza the heroes are from Earth for a petty reason, turns out to be as narcissistic as Guru (Super Kami Dende) and can be a vengeful one but you can't help but feel bad for the kid who lost his family once and then got kidnapped by Goku, separating him again from his family.
** If you aren't ''completely'' turned off by Satan's ItsAllAboutMe attitude, you may feel a little sympathy for him in a JerkassWoobie kind of way. If Cell really was [[AccidentalTruth accidentally telling the truth]] during his brief TheReasonYouSuckSpeech, Mark "Hercule" Satan used to be a homeless man who started his career in Bum Fights. [[SelfMadeMan He still managed to become a famous star nonetheless]]. Now, he may be an AttentionWhore, but he's also LonelyAtTheTop and the only person who may genuinely still love him is his daughter. Then comes the ForegoneConclusion of his "fight" with Cell, and the outcome is ''way'' more graphic than in the source material.
--->'''Cell:''' "Do you have any actual friends? Any relationships at all that aren't about your money or your position?"\
'''Mr. Satan:''' ''[weakly]'' "I have a daughter..."
** Tien is far more a JerkAss than in the source material, his personality more so resembling when he was a villain, but fans can't help but sympathize with his frustration over how he CantCatchUp with the Saiyan characters, a sentiment the audience shares. It helps that his rage mostly gets directed at Cell and Vegeta, the latter of which he shares a "mutual hate boner" with.
* LoveToHate: It helps that by the end of a given season every one of the villains tends to [[BreakTheHaughty get a physical and emotional beating for their sins]], and knowing it's coming eventually makes their bad attitudes in the lead-up fuel for CatharsisFactor later.
** Vegeta is an arrogant asshole who treats everyone around him like garbage even ''after'' his HazyFeelTurn and barely learns anything or grows at all between seasons, but his audacious attitude and insecure yet overinflated ego is [[CrossesTheLineTwice sometimes pretty funny]].
** Freeza. His pompous overconfidence and casual demeanor make him very punch-worthy, but is he ever hilarious while being so.
** Cell. Depending on the situation, he can be even more of a jerk than Freeza, but he's downright hilarious when he does it, usually.
* MagnificentBastard:
** ''[[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedM2 The Christmas Tree of Might]]'': [[TheGrinch Turles]] is a Saiyan survivor who leads a band of loyal criminals, whom he [[BenevolentBoss rescued from the Planet of Misfit Minions]]. Turles developed a burning hatred for Christmas, due to [[FreudianExcuse Santa Claus never visiting Planet Vegeta]] and robbing him of the joys of Christmas. As a result, Turles made it his life's mission to [[HowTheCharacterStoleChristmas ruin Christmas on other planets]] by planting the Christmas Tree of Might, which would absorb all of the planet's Christmas joy, intending to do so on Earth. Meeting Gohan, Turles recognizes the boy as a Saiyan, where Turles pushes a PressurePoint to make Gohan's tail regrow, then tricks him into looking at an Artificial Moon he created. Gohan transforms into a Great Ape, with Turles pitting him against Goku, though when Goku halts his son's rampage by cutting off his tail, Turles [[VillainRespect commends Goku for this move]]. Fighting Goku, Turles gives himself the advantage by eating fruit from the tree, beating down and very nearly killing Goku.
** ''[[Recap/DragonBallZAbridgedM11 Broly — The Legendary Super Saiyan]]'': [[SinsOfOurFathers Paragus]], after being stabbed and LeftForDead along with his son Broly by King Vegeta out of fear for the latter's power, desires revenge through the King's son. To do this, he recruits the Shamosians to build an infrastructure on a planet on a collision course with a comet before arriving on Earth and offering Prince Vegeta a planet to rule over, [[FlawExploitation purposely taking advantage of his egotistical personality]]. When his plans are inevitably exposed, Paragus does not descend into a VillainousBreakdown but rather confesses his plans and backstory to the Z-Fighters. Even though he did not intend to trigger Broly's transformation -- due to previously having wiped out the South Galaxy before -- Paragus nevertheless showed pride in his son while letting him kill the Z-Fighters for him. [[AdaptationalHeroism Lacking the worst traits of his original counterpart]], Paragus attempts to eliminate Vegeta not through brute strength but by knowledge and manipulations of the arrogant Prince.
* MemeticBadass:
** '''[[TheDreaded Mr. Popo]]'''. He's nightmarishly terrifying and he is quite possibly the single most powerful character in the show. This one has seeped into the main Dragon Ball fandom and people treat canon Popo as godlike as well.
** Early Yamcha served as a reverse ButtMonkey, with everyone always shilling him for how awesome he is. Then after Season 2 it got flipped around and he went back to being a MemeticLoser.
** Tien due to a combination of mocking Vegeta and getting away with it as well as his performance against Cell.
* MemeticPsychopath: This series is the root cause of Mr. Popo becoming one.
* MemeticTroll: Goku, [[AlternateCharacterInterpretation if you're of the belief]] that he's intentionally playing up his dumbness. There's times when he shows unexpected HyperAwareness which leaves the implication that [[TheGadfly he's intentionally riling up everyone around him]].
* MisaimedFandom:
** Many fans were upset during the ''Broly Abridged'' movie when Gohan casually revealed that [[spoiler:Doctor Wheelo died of brain cancer in-between movies]] with many feeling that it was a cruel HappyEndingOverride for the man. However Kaiser stated during the Team Four Star podcast after the movie was out that [[spoiler:the ending of ''World's Strongest Abridged'' wasn't supposed to be happy in the first place and Wheelo getting stuck with a giant head was meant to be seen as a dark joke]], not that it makes the reveal in ''Broly Abridged'' any less of a gut punch.
** Much like ''Yu-Gi-Oh Abridged'', some fans watch under the impression that the show is meant to be an insult and criticism towards the original series and that the creators don't actually like the show. On many occasions Team Four Star has made it clear that they love ''Dragon Ball'' (but still recognize its flaws) and that they would never abridge something they didn't like since it would be little more than a HateFic.
** On the flipside, there are also people who believe the show to be the definitive version of ''Z'', even basing assumptions of the actual source material off the abridged series.[[note]]One example being people assuming that Dr. Gero's son (on whom Android 16 was based off) was killed during Goku's rampage against the Red Ribbon Army, which was a notion generated from this show; the actual anime/manga never specifies how Dr. Gero's son died, and the only specifics came from Toriyama, who stated that he was killed while working for the Red Ribbon Army, and even then, specifically said that it was long before Goku's rampage.[[/note]] This is despite the fact that it's first and foremost a parody, due to the team retaining the overall story of the original while also adding in Fringe things that haven't been confirmed in the source material itself and also pointing out the absurdities with the original series. The rewritten characters and voice acting are also considered reasons for this. TFS has said they do not consider themselves as trying to replace the official version and often instruct their fans to support the official release, and have sometimes commented on social media about people misunderstanding the source material due to the abridged series.[[note]]One example being [=MasakoX's=] video on his own channel about how it was better to consider the movies not canon in relation to the anime, due to the many inconsistencies between them, despite DBZA making a RunningGag about referencing events from the movies (such as Bojack's voice being heard from King Kai's planet).[[/note]]
* MisBlamed: A common misconception was that [=Vegeta3986=] left Team Four Star on bad terms, or that ''Naruto: The Abridged Movie's'' poor reception either got him fired or he quit abridging out of shame. The true story is that he got a teaching job in Japan and he wasn't able to commit to schedule. In the Creator commentaries, Lanipator and [=KaiserNeko=] even give their support for his endeavors, showing that there's no grudges or hard feelings despite the abruptness of his departure.
* MoralEventHorizon:
** Freeza's absolute relish when he kills [[spoiler:Dende]] (which is not PlayedForLaughs). He goes even further during his savage NoHoldsBarredBeatdown of Vegeta, which is arguably ''worse'' than in the original. At least then he had the excuse of being royally pissed but in the Abridged series, you get the impression that he's torturing Vegeta ''[[ForTheEvulz for fun]]''.
*** The series implies that Frieza destroyed Planet Vegeta for his amusement rather than his fear of the Saiyans rebelling against him like in canon.
** Cell crossed it before his first appearance when he drank an entire town. To make it worse, he keeps doing it after that.
--->'''Piccolo:''' How... How many people?!\
'''Cell:''' Enough.
*** If for ''[[AffablyEvil whatever reason]]'' you didn't think he'd already crossed it, Cell crosses it with absolutely no chance of returning when he [[spoiler: [[DoomedByCanon stomps on #16's head]], killing him mid-sentence and callously delivering this line.]]
---->'''Cell:''' I'd say he's gone to a better place, but... [[spoiler:''[[KickTheDog We both know he never had a soul.]]'']]
* SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound: The Krillin Owned Counter [[spoiler:running in reverse as the series ButtMonkey finally catches a break by scoring with Eighteen at the very end of the story.]] Best payoff ever.
* {{Narm}}:
** Gohan's speeches in Episode 60 are trying way too hard to sound badass and methodical and end up having the opposite effect for some viewers. It's not really a failure of the voice acting, more so that the lines themselves were just bad. The Canadian subtitles even make fun of how edgy Gohan sounds, calling him [[VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog "Shadow the Super Saiyan"]].
** For some, the dramatic scenes as a whole can be a little hard to take seriously since they greatly contrast with the completely over the top humor present elsewhere.
** Gohan's belief that Goku is never there for him from season 2 on is this mixed with {{Wangst}}, as his death in season 1 wasn't his fault and he came back to life after a year and saved him and Krillin from Vegeta and Nappa, he came back after training with the Yardrats, and he spent a combined total of 4 years training with him during a mix of the time skip and Time Chamber training in season 3. Not to mention the 4 years of Gohan's life that Goku was around for prior to the series' starting and the fact that Goku's saved him on multiple occasions from certain death. Sure, Goku's not the ideal parent, but he's there for him and is usually very supportive of him, even if he can get ahead of himself with certain things. The fact that this is also one of the last few dangling character traits that wasn't taken care of at the end of season 3 also doesn't help.
* NarmCharm: You wouldn't expect "[[CallBack eat that horse]]" to sound so epic in the context of [[spoiler:the Father-Son Kamehameha]], but somehow... it works!
* NightmareFuel: [[NightmareFuel/DragonBallZAbridged Now has its own page.]]
* NightmareRetardant:
** Even though Mr. Popo is made out to be terrifying, some of his quotes can easily negate this; like "I'M SO F**KING HIGH RIGHT NOW!" and "CAUSE IT WAS NOTHIN' BUT GARLIC!"
** In Episode 40, he's completely whacked out on a gallon of LSD. And it is hilarious.
** Surprisingly, [[spoiler:Cell]] at times. Keywords being at times.
* NoYay: Cell lives and breathes this trope with nearly everyone he interacts with, especially Androids 17 and 18. In fact, he claims that Android 18 is "practically asking to be [[DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything absorbed]]," and the image depicted in his Solar Flare is [[spoiler:a cropped illustration of him raping her]].
* OlderThanTheyThink:
** "Find me in the Alps" comes from a {{Bowdlerization}} of ''Film/TheBigLebowski'' that changes "This is what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass" to "This is what happens when you ''find'' a stranger in the ''Alps''".
** Goku and Ginyu's body swap averts VoicesAreMental unlike the original version, and their voices stay in their normal bodies. However, the Japanese dub of the first ''VideoGame/DragonBallZBudokaiTenkaichi'' game also did this years prior - for the segments where the player fought Ginyu in Goku's body, his voice was still provided by Creator/MasakoNozawa.
** The "Goku is a bad father" sentiment[[note]]always present in the community to a degree[[/note]] had already been parodied far more severely in ''Webcomic/ButtlordGT'' - in a way which makes TFS's take seem rather quaint by comparison.
* OneSceneWonder:
** [=GanXingBa=] as King Yemma. And his (mahogany) desk.
** And the nameless farmer from Episode 1 (the one with the marijuana-- I mean, "carrot" patch).
** Toolo from ''Bardock: Father of Goku''. Of course, he knew this would be on the page-- [[RunningGag HE CAN SEE THE FYOOO-CHURRRR!!!!]]
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: A lot of characters get this, especially Maron, [[spoiler:who's revealed to have acted stupid to get Krillin to confess to insurance fraud]], and Lord Chilled, a very uninspired villain in the source material whose Abridged incarnation is beloved and immensely quotable for his [[SissyVillain foppish]] [[EvilIsHammy hamminess]] and hilarious voice.
* SignatureScene: The whole series is a FountainOfMemes, so there's a lot:
** Series proper
*** Mr. Popo explaining the pecking order.
*** Piccolo's last words to Gohan, scolding him [[RunningGag for not dodging]].
*** Vegeta retreating from earth, and the introduction of Ghost Nappa.
*** Vegeta's RageBreakingPoint in Episode 18 that causes him to [[TheScream scream]] across time and space.
*** Tien using a DesperationAttack against Cell because he's frustrated that he CantCatchUp.
*** Cell singing after achieving his perfect form.
*** Cell's ReallyDeadMontage to the tune of Music/FrankSinatra's "Music/MyWay".
** Movies & Specials
*** Vegeta repeatedly getting kicked in the dick in ''Cooler 2''.
*** Goku getting punched in the dick in ''Super Android 13'' so hard that Goten is erased from existence.
* {{Squick}}:
** How everyone reacts when learning that [[InconsistentSpelling Cui/Kui/Kiwi's]] race reproduces asexually.
** A RunningGag is that an image of this type appears for a split-second whenever someone uses Solar Flare:
*** When Krillin blinds Dodoria with a Solar Flare, there's [[spoiler:[[BrickJoke a shot of Freeza in the shower]]]]. When Krillin uses it on Freeza, it's the other way around. It's a shot of [[spoiler:[[http://fc03.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2011/239/0/d/tfs_dodoria_solar_flare_by_makemyheartstop-d480l5a.png Dodoria as a fat woman in lingerie]]]].
*** In Kai Abridged 2, when Krillin uses it on Dodoria we get [[spoiler:[[http://i.imgur.com/1XciHc3.png this shot]] of Lanipator as [[Film/TheRockyHorrorPictureShow Dr. Frank-N-Furter]]]].
*** Imperfect Cell's Solar Flare flashes [[spoiler:a close-up image of flies mating]].
*** Semi-Perfect Cell's Solar Flare flashes [[spoiler:a (mercifully cropped) picture of Android 18 and Cell porn]]. Extra squicky given Cell's obsession over absorbing Android 18 throughout the episode.
** After TheReveal that [[spoiler:Dodoria is a woman]].
--->[[spoiler:'''Dodoria:''']] And that's why I was considered the most beautiful, ''and fertile'', woman on my home planet. Before Freeza blew it up.\
'''Vegeta:''' He tends to do that, also huh-uugh.
*** Kai Abridged 2 kicks it up another notch.
---->[[spoiler:'''Dodoria:''']] I have a thick... MEATY... '''VAGINA.'''\
'''Vegeta:''' ''[annihilates [[spoiler:Dodoria]]]'' Huh-uuugh...
** Trunks gets freaked out when Bulma (his mother) comes on to him. [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone When she finds out that he's her son from the future she is likewise disturbed]]. Even worse is that before she found out, she explicitly tried to ''solicit sex'' from him by saying '''"I'll be your mommy."''' ''Yikes.''
--->'''Future Trunks''': (Internal Screaming)
** Cell absorbing his first victim, complete with close-up shots and sound effects. In-universe, Nail throws up watching it.
** Android 17 and Android 18's reaction to [[spoiler:Android 16 tearing off Cell's tail]].
--->'''Android 17:''' ''[looking shocked]'' I was not ready for today.\
'''Android 18:''' ''[also shocked]'' I don't think any of us were.
** An extreme example in Episode 47.
--->'''Cell:''' Hello... ''brother''.\
'''Android 17:''' Come again?\
'''Cell:''' In a moment. And hello, my ''beautiful'' sister. ''[suggestive slurping noises]''\
'''Anrdoid 18:''' Oh, ''fuck'' no.
** Cell literally talking out of his ass. Even Vegeta is disturbed by it.
** The birth of the Cell Jrs is portrayed completely realistically as a childbirth, complete with Cell complaining his stinger is going to be spasming for the rest of the day.
* StockFootageFailure:
** In Episode 9, when Kami is dying due to Piccolo's death, Mr. Popo shows cold indifference. However, right as this happens, you can see Mr. Popo shivering in sadness as Kami disappears in the source material. Much later, when Piccolo is absorbing Kami during the Cell arc, a similar situation is avoided by explaining Popo's somber expression and continuous staring at the floor as him undergoing a horrible LSD trip.
** Vegeta's scouter has a habit of appearing and disappearing in Season 1, especially noticeable when multiple shots are used of Vegeta for lengthy monologue sequences.
** In Episode 13, after arriving at Namek, Krillin's hat disappears and reappears randomly. Also, while he normally wears it frontwards, he suddenly wears it backwards in one scene, and then it reverts back to frontwards. In the same episode, Cui's scouter disappears and reappears randomly during his confrontation with Vegeta.
** In Episode 17, Zarbon's armor inexplicably becomes damaged as soon as he transforms, due to the earlier part of his and Vegeta's second fight being cut out.
** In Episode 19, during the scene when Freeza is watching Captain Ginyu's "Wheel of Death" TV show, they forgot to edit out the Dragon Balls nearby, despite them being stolen from him earlier. Additionally, they forgot to remove the [=GalacTV=] watermark from the first cut to Freeza.
** In Episode 23, when Gohan and Krillin try to figure out how to summon Porunga, Krillin's dark blue shirt somehow appears underneath his orange gi again, even though he took it off in Episode 13 and hasn't worn it since up to that point.
** In Episode 25, after Freeza's scouter blows up in his fight with Vegeta, it appears and disappears randomly in the following scenes.
** In Episode 31, when Maron tells Krillin the truth, the background constantly changes between sunset and broad daylight.
** In Episode 38, Dr. Gero's severed arm somehow keeps reappearing at points during the scene in his lab. This was unintentionally carried over from the source material.
** ''Super Android 13 Abridged'' opens with Dr. Gero's death from Episodes 38-39. However, it's easy to tell where the TV footage ends and the movie footage begins thanks to the shading on the Androids.
** In Episode 57, when the Z-Fighters gather, Tien is wearing a white t-shirt. However, when they arrive at the arena and Cell addresses Tien, he's suddenly wearing his green robe from earlier in the season.
** In Episode 58, during Goku and Cell's fight, Piza, Piroshki, and Caroni can briefly be seen in the background, despite [[DeathByAdaptation having been killed off]] in the previous episode.
* SugarWiki/SuperlativeDubbing:
** Lanipator nails Vegeta and Piccolo perfectly, with some even thinking he does a better job than Creator/ChristopherSabat himself. Especially Piccolo who has a bigger voice range than Sabat's portrayal. Lani has even managed to pull off Creator/BrianDrummond's version for Kid Vegeta during ''Bardock the Father of Goku'' abridged. Sabat believes so as well, if Lani's story regarding how Sabat tweeted that he would give the part to Lani in his will.
** Also, Creator/MasakoX's Goku is somehow the perfect synthesis of Masako Nozawa, Sean Schemmel, and even Peter Kelamis' previous portrayals… And, like Nozawa, he does double duty as Young/Old Goku and Gohan… and manages to make Young Goku and Gohan sound distinct from each other.
** Taka's Nappa received critical acclaim, which even got noticed by Creator/ChristopherSabat. He even got a role in ''VideoGame/DragonBallXenoverse'' as male custom character voice 8.
** As said above, Creator/LittleKuriboh as Freeza is absolutely amazing, managing to sound sinister, uppity, polite, bored, irritated, funny, and at times [[NightmareFuel genuinely horrifying]].
** Some fans have already started agreeing that Kaiser as Trunks is done amazingly well, having more emotion and versatility than the gruff voice of Creator/EricVale's Trunks. Sabat believes so as well, according to the ''History of Trunks'' commentary, where he complimented that Kaiser's take as Trunks is one of the most natural performances he's heard.
** Taka has somehow made Cell both hilarious and way more terrifying than the official dub.
** Many of the minor characters also get this. For example, Lord Chilled in ''Anime/DragonBallEpisodeOfBardock'' was transformed from an unmemorable Freeza clone with the same voice to a hilariously [[SissyVillain foppish]] and [[EvilIsHammy hammy]] {{cloudcuckoolander}} thanks to [=GanXingBa=].
*** Speaking of [=GanXingBa=], his performance as Tien during the scene where he [[YouShallNotPass keeps Semi-Perfect Cell down with the Kikohou]] is considered to be one of the most awesome in the entire series.
* TakeThatScrappy:
** It's no secret that TFS ''hates'' the original Broly, to the point where in the first Broly movie all the characters start to say that they would rather fight ''any other of the past movie villains'' (and Vegeta doesn't want to hear him say "Kakarot" again). Vegeta even suffers a HeroicBSOD over the fact that Broly has a cool concept that's ruined by '''''HOW DUMB''''' his motivations are.
** Mr. Satan's students, who are disliked for being pointless {{filler}} characters during the Cell Games, [[spoiler:get unceremoniously killed by Cell before the games even start]]. The point is absolutely driven home in the commentary videos, where their non-prescence is highlighted at every opportunity, mostly because there's usually rather distinct negative spaces where they would normally otherwise be, and editing them out was a pain in the ass for Kaiser, but as far as he's concerned, as he notes in the Episode 60 Part 2 commentary? ''WorthIt''. Without ''question.''
---> '''Kaiser''': I ''hate'' those sons of bitches.\
'''Takahata''': This is why this was one of the most contentious things - "are you sure you want to do this to yourself, Scott? They're in ''every shot.''"\
'''Kaiser''': They were in a ''third'' of the shots - maybe even ''half'' of the shots that I needed - but I [[spoiler:killed them]]. I'll [[spoiler:kill them]] again!
** TFS has also been vocal about their distaste for ''Anime/DragonBallSuper'''s Jiren, calling him a completely boring non-character who only exists to be an obstacle for Goku, with Lanipator in particular nicknaming him "Franchise/{{Superman}} [[Manga/{{Naruto}} Uchiha]]". In the Season 3 epilogue, Future Cell says that he considered naming himself Jiren, but decided against it because of how boring it sounds. The Buu Bits similarly has everyone present reminisce about the events of ''Super'', with Goku fondly stating "Remember Jiren?" only to be met with complete silence.
* TearJerker: Has its [[TearJerker/DragonBallZAbridged own page]].
* UglyCute: Guldo crosses into this, thanks to the endearing voice [=Takahata101=] gives him.
* UnintentionalPeriodPiece:
** It's inevitable for an online parody that spanned over a decade of unprecedented social, political, and cultural shifts. It's particularly obvious in the first two seasons, which were chock-full of then-contemporary pop culture trends, after which TFS realized what was going on and toned it down a bit.
** Piccolo uses Website/MySpace, where he only has one friend. He agrees to help Goku when the latter offers to befriend him there. In the commentaries Kaiser and Lani point out that [=MySpace=] was already way past its prime when the episodes were made in 2008, which served to highlight Piccolo being behind the times. In a later episode he mentions he switched to [[Website/{{Facebook}} Spacebook]].
* UnintentionallySympathetic: Despite being a villain and ButtMonkey, Raditz does get more than his fair share's worth of crap. It doesn't help that Bardock was a pretty negligent father. ''WebAnimation/{{HFIL}}'' makes it more intentional.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Gohan (namely in Season 2) when it comes to his problems with his father, since he's shown to be angry with Goku for being absent since he was four and sees Piccolo as more of a father for being around more, but he seems to disregard the fact that Goku was '''dead''' during that time because Piccolo killed him which unlike the source material wasn't a HeroicSacrifice-- it was flat out murder. Season 3 has him less upset Goku isn't there and moreso his lack of ability to serve as a sufficient father - namely choosing not come back to Earth at the finale of Season 2, him choosing to talk to Trunks instead of his family and friends after nearly 2 years, throwing Gohan at Cell without any true warning, etc., giving him a much better reason to be upset(on top of his previous mistakes by letting Vegeta and Freeza live), softening this trope somewhat.
* UnpopularPopularCharacter: To the fanbase, Vegeta's egocentric penchant for irreverent sass is [[AwesomeEgo awesome and hilarious]] and he's the most popular character in the series. In-universe, he's so [[TheFriendNobodyLikes hated by the others]] that to associate words like "love" and "friends" with him at all is to make too many assumptions.
* ViewerGenderConfusion:
** Freeza, of course. Gohan inadvertently breaks it to Krillin at the beginning of Episode 14 when Gohan admonishes Krillin for calling Freeza a "fag," which to Krillin means a "'''F'''reaky '''A'''lien '''G'''enotype," not a derogatory term for a homosexual.
--->'''Krillin:''' THAT THING'S A ''GUY''?!?\
'''Goku:''' (in Episode 21) [[CallBack Haha, that thing was a guy.]]
** Retroactively in Episode 15, [[spoiler:Dodoria]].
*** FridgeBrilliance, once you add in the fact that [[spoiler:Zarbon is MistakenForGay, the three primary villains of Season Two before the Ginyu Force show up are all subject to other characters being baffled by these revelations]].
* SugarWiki/VisualEffectsOfAwesome:
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iVu_WfkiyM The credits sequence]] for ''History of Trunks Abridged'' - with Future Trunks' time machine acting as the TARDIS from the 2005-2008 ''Series/DoctorWho'' intro while a mashup of [[AwesomeMusic/DoctorWho the theme]] and [[AwesomeMusic/DragonBall Cha-La-Head-Cha-La]] plays.
** The ''very'' well done animation used for [[spoiler:Dr. Gero's son's final video that Bulma finds in Android 16's hard drive]].
* TheWoobie:
** Dende. His entire family is killed in front of him, he is mistreated by both Krillin and Vegeta, he watches his only friends beaten to near-death, [[spoiler:he experiences the pain of death, and, to add insult to injury, his AnguishedDeclarationOfLove to Gohan blows up in his face]]. Even if he's a bit of a whiner, can you blame him?
** Also Gohan himself, enduring all the stuff he did in the source material and more, while also have the problems of being the OnlySaneMan.
*** Future Gohan has it even worse. First Future Goku dies for good, then everyone else dies against them and he's left all alone and he hallucinates Future Piccolo as he tries to kill the Androids and fails each and every time until he ends up dead.
** Future Chi-Chi, who only has her father since Future Goku is dead and Future Gohan never talks to her and for all she knows, he's dead. And without knowing it, she's outlived her son.
** Yamcha in season 3, especially in Episode 35. He's treated poorly by almost everyone, and actually killed himself in Future Trunks' timeline after learning that Bulma, his ex-girlfriend, had a baby with Vegeta, the former enemy who killed him. It got to the point that other characters started taking this view of him in-universe, with Goku and Tien going out of their way to [[YouAreNotAlone make sure he knows they value his friendship]].
** Much like in the source material, just poor, poor Trunks. Wanting so badly to meet his father, and then Vegeta treats him like absolute shit. You can't help but feel really sorry for the kid.
*** Vegeta treats Trunks even worse here. At least in the source material he never flat out called Trunks a bastard to his face.
** Episode 42 earns Kami some woobie points. He's been trapped up on the lookout for hundreds of years and now his duty as Guardian of Earth demands that he fuse with Piccolo, effectively surrendering his free will to someone he doesn't like and rid himself of centuries ago.
** Surprisingly, [[MadScientist Doctor]] [[GrandTheftMe Wheelo]] becomes this. He's gone through a pretty severe case of AdaptationalHeroism so now instead of being actively malicious, he's just a poor man helpless to watch as his insane assistant turns all his peaceful inventions into evil weapons. By the end, he breaks down crying over the fact he is now trapped in a robotic body. [[spoiler:[[BusCrash And then he dies of brain cancer between movies.]] [[TearJerker Poor, poor man.]]]]
** 16. He tried to keep 17 from being absorbed by Cell, failed, then got a chunk of his head blown off. He once again tried to protect 18, but was powerless to save her from Cell. [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking And Cell has the audacity to try and befriend him]].
