----
* ArchivePanic: As of 2020, there are well over 700 movie sin videos alone, and the ''Sins'' franchise also extends into individual episodes of various TV series as well as music videos.
* BaseBreakingCharacter:
** Some fans liked WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic, the guest narrator for ''Everything Wrong With Film/HowTheGrinchStoleChristmas'', while others found him boring due to having done a review of the movie beforehand, and many of his contributions came across as just repeating the same points he made in that video.
** Jeremy himself is an interesting example as while most people don't mind him as a narrator, his attitudes in his Dear Hollywood videos regarding the movie industry are either endorsed by fans or lambasted due to his extremely abrasive and judgmental attitude, with the Disney video being blatant in this regard, and found borderline hypocritical in regards of his hate for remakes/sequels/reboots, noting that Jeremy has branched ''[=CinemaSins=]'' into multiple forms such as Music Video Sins and Brand Sins. His reactions during the "Review Crew" scandal haven't helped his case either due to actions being seen as petty by some.
** Creator/KevinSmith in the ''Film/ANewHope'' video. Some appreciated the gesture of gratitude for Kevin [[ColbertBump putting Cinema Sins on the map]], while others hated his annoying voice, tendency to drag sins on much longer than Jeremy, and raunchy humor that goes far beyond what Jeremy does.
* BrokenBase:
** Don't even touch the shitstorm that followed the announcement of Brand Sins. Either it's an intriguing concept that aims to explore more aspects of society, or it's a long and boring series whose topic is ill-suited by the Cinema Sins style, with an irritatingly voiced narrator. Either way, [[ForumSpeak G.I.F.T]] applies.
** Even among fans of the franchise, there's debate over which "style" of Cinema Sins is better. The Old Format was shorter and focused more on actual FridgeLogic, while the new format has longer videos with many of the sins falling under RuleOfFunny or nitpicking.
** Jeremy's Dear Hollywood videos already have this going due to his abrasive attitude, but the "F*ck Disney" and "F*ck Hollywood" videos in particular are divisive due to Jeremy accusing the industry of killing creativity over remakes and sequels and proclaiming that people who enjoy these films and other remakes and sequels [[OpinionMyopia are doing so as well.]] This sparked debate between people who agreed with him and those angry at him for overreacting and making a myopic statement, noting that remakes and sequels are nothing new and on how bad original works are nothing to praise. After all, he still finds plenty of sins with films that are more original. Another crowd even sees him as borderline hypocritical, noting that Jeremy has branched ''[=CinemaSins=]'' into multiple forms such as Music Video Sins and Brand Sins, and makes a living nitpicking off the work of others, or the fact both he and Chris got their start writing clickbait articles, which hollows his "dumbing down of entertainment" complaint.
** Jeremy's now deleted video where he accused Screen Junkies of ripping off his Before and After reviews with their now deleted Review Crew video, which contained ProductPlacement has become this. While there are those who side with him, others have called him out for being immature, especially considering the Screen Junkies claimed to have not seen his series and included the ProductPlacement due to it being from a sponsor, in addition to pointing out that car review shows have been done by other people before. The fact both deleted their videos and appeared to make up has only made the matter more contentious.
** UsefulNotes/DonaldTrump's cameo from ''Film/HomeAlone2LostInNewYork'' got 1,000,000,000 sins (In comparison, the ''Ocean's Eleven'' scene where Danny Ocean is in a phone booth next to the Trump Plaza gets 10 sins). Some appreciated the TakeThat aimed at the president, while others saw it as a political cheap shot and/or felt Jeremy was signaling that Trump supporters, or right-wingers in general, were not welcome in his fanbase.
* DontShootTheMessage: Jeremy's Dear Hollywood videos would probably be taken seriously by film professionals if he wasn't so abrasive and openly loathing towards them.
* FriendlyFandoms:
** With the WebVideo/HonestTrailers crew. They often cover the same movies and even collaborated a number of times. (once they even [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6cWS-E1utN4&src_vid=H53183mVc2o&feature=iv&annotation_id=annotation_3767145197 switched]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H53183mVc2o shows]]) To the point where Honest Trailers [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1bYCCTF6Zk complained]] that people think that they're the same and ask them to do sins videos. However, the car review scandal caused a clash between the two that the channels deeply regretted.
** Also with WebVideo/GameCareNetwork, who does a series of Gaming Sins, the video game equivalent to Cinema Sins. Cinema Sins has come to their defense on occasion, stating that they do not mind.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** In the ''Spider-Man: Homecoming'' video, he criticizes Peter Parker when he is running towards fire, claiming that he "should be ash at this point". [[spoiler:In ''Film/AvengersInfinityWar'', Peter ends up disintegrating into ash due to Thanos's BadassFingersnap, in one of the film's saddest scenes, right in front of his mentor, no less!]]
** In the Music Video Sins video "Everything Wrong with Music/CharliXCX - Boys", one of the first sins is "monogrammed robes died with Hugh Hefner, dude. Wait, Hef is still alive? Really?" Hugh Hefner died a month after the video was released.
** Jeremy's comment on Valerian's behavior in ''Film/ValerianAndTheCityOfAThousandPlanets'', involving him having attended the "Harvey Weinstein School of Workplace Behavior" became this after director Luc Besson was accused of sexual assault by several women.
** One of the stingers for ''Justin Bieber: Never Say Never'' features the bit from ''Film/Godzilla1998'' where Madison Square Garden gets blown up, presumably during the concert. It seems less funny after [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Manchester_Arena_bombing the bombing of an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester in 2017]]. The shooting up of the Music/EaglesOfDeathMetal at Bataclan in Paris and later the massacre at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival in Las Vegas only make it even harsher, even though those were not bombings and the artists playing had far less in common with Bieber than Grande does.
** In "Everything wrong with ''Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy2014''", after the explanation of the Infinity Stones' power, Jeremy concludes that the stone's [[InformedAbility "wheat field genocide" power]] won't be used. [[spoiler:Come ''Film/AvengersInfinityWar'', the stones are used to wipe out half of all life in the universe, which is definitely WAY worse.]]
** In the Music Video Sins episode for Music/IggyAzalea's "Team", Jeremy comments on Iggy's footwear during the airport scene, commenting that only Music/{{Prince}} could get away with those shoes. One day after the video was posted, Prince died of an accidental fentanyl overdose.
*** Similarly, for Christmas 2016, they did a video on Music/{{Wham}}'s "[[ChristmasSongs Last Christmas]]", only for Music/GeorgeMichael to die that Christmas Day of a heart disease.
* HePannedItNowHeSucks:
** In every one of his sin videos, you will find many mixed Website/YouTube comments, usually those who criticize or insult him on being too serious and overly critical about an entertaining movie. In the descriptions of some videos, they even note that they like some of the films they're covering; examples have included ''Film/BackToTheFuture1'', ''Film/TheHuntForRedOctober'' and ''Film/TheMatrix''. In ''Everything Wrong With [=CinemaSins=]'' Jeremy notes that one of the films they've covered is in his personal top ten.[[note]]"And no, it's not motherf*cking ''Film/{{Twilight}}''. It was ''Film/{{Battleship}}''".[[/note]] Some people do have a point about not reading too much into the films, focusing on narrative themes rather than minor nitpicks, and though the nature of the channel is satirical, they often add some serious criticisms and treat sins as fact... which comes with its own share of flaws. Also despite their own claim that, "[cinema] sins have no real value", the number and length of the bonus rounds tend to indicate their disdain for a film, and sometimes they'll actually ''state'' as much.
** In a Reddit post, Jeremy noted that the films [=CinemaSins=] has specifically gotten the most hate for sinning are the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse.
** The first two Music Video Sins episodes for Music/MelanieMartinez had the highest number of dislikes on the channel until they made a video for [=JoJo=] Siwa's "Boomerang", and the two Music/TwentyOnePilots videos also went straight to the bottom 5.
** Jeremy's minor remark in the ''Batman Forever'' video noting people haven't realized ''Film/TheLostBoys'' is terrible yet got more than a few people livid.
** Jeremy has received some intense criticism for "Everything Wrong With ''WesternAnimation/LiloAndStitch'' In 18 Minutes Or Less", in which (among several issues that viewers had with his criticism, including the fact that he doesn't remove even one sin for anything in the film) he bashes Nani for being a "terrible human being" (going as far as to state that no amount of a redemption story will ever change his mind) because she couldn't properly handle taking care of Lilo, even though most people with a sense of understanding in the context of the Pelekai sisters' situation know that Nani was thrust in the position of taking care of Lilo against her will thanks to the deaths of their parents (and that fact gets sinned as well because of Disney's infamy with the DeceasedParentsAreTheBest trope) and the both of them were struggling to cope with the situation at hand. Viewers pointed out Nani was trying her best, but the stress of everything going on was easily overwhelming her and thus causing her to make those mistakes depicted in the film.
** His video on ''WesternAnimation/ThePrincessAndTheFrog'' has attracted a good number of negative comments, due to him expressing distaste for "Friends on The Other Side" as well as Creator/KeithDavid's performance of the song.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** Jeremy's spinoff channel, [=CinemaSins=] Jeremy, is ripe with these. His Dear Hollywood videos in particular have become pretty prophetic regardless of whether he likes the results or not.
*** "Dear Hollywood - Captain America 3 Vs. Batman v Superman." Jeremy goes on a rant about Disney and Warner Bros. announcing ''Film/CaptainAmericaCivilWar'' and ''Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice'' to both open on the same exact weekend. He complains about how it is counter-productive and if they were to both carry forward without one moving, they would see diminishing returns. However, Jeremy ended up predicting wrong which movie would be the one to change dates, as even though he had criticized many parts of ''Man of Steel'', he believed it would be Captain America, as he called out Marvel as having "lost your god-damned mind" because apparently no-one cares about ComicBook/CaptainAmerica and ''Franchise/{{Batman}} v Franchise/{{Superman}}'' was absolutely ''guaranteed'' to completely and utterly slaughter ''Civil War'' at the box office. Fast forward a few months and DC blinked first and changed the release date of their movie. Fast forward a few ''more'' months and even Jeremy himself is [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUz096-FGYk regretfully admitting]] that he really, ''really'' doesn't like the look of the new ''Batman v Superman'' trailer and he even predicts it's going to be "the ''Film/TerminatorGenisys'' of 2016". Possibly HarsherInHindsight, depending on your point of view, but considering how passionate he was being to Marvel about what an utterly insane idea pitting ''Civil War'' against ''Batman v Superman'' was, the hubris is particularly sweet. This culminated in the critical '''''flogging''''' and/or overall mixed impression for ''Batman v Superman'', in addition ''Civil War'' receiving critical acclaim and making more money.
*** In the same vein, his "Conversations with Myself" about the (at the time) extremely controversial casting of Ben Affleck as [[Film/BatmanVSupermanDawnOfJustice Bruce Wayne]] had one Jeremy supporting the decision, while the other complained that he didn't know anyone who liked Affleck. Though the film was extremely divisive, it was nevertheless generally accepted that not only was Affleck one of the best parts of the film, some considered him one of the best film portrayals of Bruce Wayne ''ever'' (or at least, [[TallDarkAndSnarky physically so]]).
*** "Dear Matt Damon & Paul Greengrass - Make Another F*cking Bourne Already". When Damon and Greengrass actually decided to make another Bourne film, Jeremy remembered this and declared himself in charge of Hollywood and mandated all the changes in his previous videos, plus a few new ones. Fast forward to the [[Film/JasonBourne actual film]] receiving mixed reviews, and Jeremy complained briefly about it in a Dear Hollywood while deciding to dedicate a whole video to it. A classic case of BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor if there ever was one.
*** Jeremy complains in his "F*ck Disney" rant over Creator/RidleyScott and Creator/NeillBlomkamp trying to create more ''Alien'' films due to his claim that neither have made a good film in a decade. Later in 2015, ''Film/TheMartian'' was released to acclaim by Scott and Blomkamp's ''Alien'' film was shelved by Scott, which many believe was tied to Blomkamp's ''Film/{{Chappie}}'' being negatively received.
*** "Dear Hollywood - Splitting Books Into Multiple Movies." Jeremy's belief that splitting up book adaptations into multiple parts have finally run their course. He compares splitting the movies up is like playing Russian Roulette in which eventually fans will revolt and not see the sequel. He caps it off by saying the ''Literature/{{Divergent}}'' series is likely the one that's going to get impacted. In 2016, it was reported the Lionsgate was considering tanking the series and releasing the last film on TV due to the diminishing returns, before finally outright cancelling it, which was probably the trend killer for sequel-splitting.
** In the video for ''Child's Play,'' one of the sins points out a Godzilla toy on a shelf. Take a wild guess what their next sin video was about.
** Early on in their take of ''Film/TheAmazingSpiderMan2'', a scene of Richard Parker killing the super-spiders is described as a visual representation of what the movie did to the rebooted series. A few months later, it was announced that ''Film/TheAmazingSpiderManSeries'' would be discontinued, and that the character would be integrated into the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse following the agreement to share the character between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.
** When Jeremy sinned ''Batman Forever'', he expressed lament that Creator/BillyDeeWilliams couldn't reprise his role to play Two-Face. One year after the video was released, Billy Dee Williams was finally given an opportunity to play Two-Face in ''WesternAnimation/TheLegoBatmanMovie''.
** These lines from ''Everything Wrong With Film/JurassicPark3'', if we consider that it was kinda-sorta what happened in ''Film/JurassicWorld'':
--->'''Jeremy:''' "It's not a ''Franchise/JurassicPark'' movie if someone isn't trying to smuggle something dino-related off the island. No, seriously. ''Every movie''. I bet ''Jurassic World'' has some theme park investor trying to smuggle a baby dino inside his suitcase or some sh*t. You watch." [[spoiler:(The ''Indominus Rex'' was designed as a prototype for a biological battlefield weapon, as well as it's the reason the attempt to train Raptors was allowed in the first place. As well, Wu manages to leave the island with various dino embryos)]].\
'''Jeremy (on the detail of the pterodactyls flying off into the sunset and nobody seems to care)''': "Also, somehow the 4th movie will completely gloss over these escaped pterodactyls, I guarantee it." [[spoiler:(Supplemental information on the ''Jurassic World'' website says that [[DroppedABridgeOnHim the pterodactyls were exterminated in Canada by Hoskins]]. As he guessed, this isn't brought up in the movie).]]
** A similar thing (which could also admittedly double as HarsherInHindsight) happens in ''Everything Wrong With Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol2''. Jeremy points out that Peter Quill has mommy issues in [[Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxy2014 the first film]], daddy issues in ''GOTG Vol. 2'', and predicts that he will have trouble with the in-laws in the next film; "basically Film/MeetTheParents [[JustForFun/RecycledInSpace in space]]". [[spoiler:In ''Film/AvengersInfinityWar'', Quill has to help stop Thanos - Gamora's adoptive father - getting all the Infinity Stones, but Thanos not only gets all the stones, he kills Gamora in order to activate one of the Stones. Those ''definitely'' qualify as 'trouble with the in-laws'.]]
** The ''Film/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtlesOutOfTheShadows'' video has a rant from Jeremy in the beginning complaining about the CriticalDissonance of its predecessor allowing the movie to exist and claims the sequel will also create a sequel. [[http://www.slashfilm.com/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-3/ It seems Jeremy didn't pay attention to the news]] since Paramount confirmed it likely won't happen before the video even went up.
** ''Everything Wrong With Film/{{Elektra}}'' points out that the Hand sending more killers after sending Elektra after the same target as "a case of the left The Hand not knowing what the right The Hand is doing". According to ''Series/{{Iron Fist|2017}}'', which belongs in [[Series/Daredevil2015 the very continuity that Elektra has been inserted back into]], the Hand is already in an EnemyCivilWar.
** Thanks to a delay, [[WebVideo/AtopTheFourthWall Linkara]] posted a video about ''ComicBook/{{Flashpoint}}'' on May 30, 2017--the same day ''[=CinemaSins=]'' posted a video about ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeagueTheFlashpointParadox'', its AnimatedAdaptation.
** One of the sins for ''Film/DoctorStrange2016'' is Jeremy wishing that Stan Lee's cameos throughout the MCU told a story. [[spoiler:His cameo in ''Film/GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol2'' sees him playing a Watcher telling other Watchers stories, implying that Lee's previous cameos in the MCU were all done by the same Watcher character, including one time when [[Film/CaptainAmericaCivilWar he played a FedEx delivery man]].]]
** The sentence for ''Film/TransformersTheLastKnight'' was "Just End Already!" It becomes funnier when you realize it did end; ''The Last Knight'' was a FranchiseKiller for the original film series, with ''Film/{{Bumblebee}}'' serving as a ContinuityReboot for the franchise (not to mention that it received ''much'' better reception).
** In the ''Film/TheGreatestShowman'' video, Jeremy claims that if Creator/HughJackman wanted to do another musical, he would've been perfect as Harold Hill in ''Film/TheMusicMan'' (although he accidentally calls him [[Film/GoodFellas Henry Hill]]). Well, [[https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/hugh-jackman-lead-broadway-revival-music-man-1194075 now he is.]]
** In the video for ''Film/SpiderManHomecoming'', Jeremy makes fun of Creator/RobertDowneyJr's constant presence in the film saying that Marvel has tricked him into starring in another ''Iron Man'' movie while making him believe that he is in a ''Spider-Man'' movie. In 2019, Creator/GwynethPaltrow revealed that she didn't even know she was in this movie (in the very scene that Jeremy was mocking, no less!) and believed that she was in an ''Avengers'' movie, although in her case, Marvel hadn't tricked her, given that she went on to reveal that she remembers almost nothing [[note]]Including Creator/TomHolland's name, Creator/SamuelLJackson's involvement in the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse and even who Creator/SebastianStan is![[/note]] about the [[Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse franchise]].
** In his review of ''Film/TheTerminator'', Jeremy snarks that it's a good thing Sarah Connor called her apartment when she did, because otherwise the T-800 would have mistaken his kill of Sarah's roommate Ginger for a completed mission and would have gone on to "have sex with robot hookers". [[spoiler:In ''Film/TerminatorDarkFate'', the T-800 that kills John Connor goes on to make a living as a construction worker, even marrying and adopting a child. Not ''quite'' the same thing, but still fits under "ok, I completed my mission, what do I do now?"]]
** The sentence for Music/BrunoMars's music video for "Versace on the Floor" was "Music/GucciMane Collaboration". Guess who Bruno collaborated with on "Wake Up in the Sky" a year later?
** One of the misfit sins from the fan made ''Film/IronMan3'' video was "The f*king villain is named after a f*king fruit", referring to the Mandarin. [[spoiler:(Note that this was before ''All Hail the King''.) In ''Film/ShangChiAndTheLegendOfTheTenRings'', Wenwu reveals that the group who appropriated the name Ten Rings didn't know his name so they named him after a chicken dish and reveled in the fact that the Americans were scared of an orange.]]
** A sin in the ''Film/BladeRunner'' video refers to the creators thinking Pan Am would still be around in 2019[[note]]problems with finances caused by the Lockerbie bombing in 1988 and the first Gulf War in 1990/91 pushed them into bankruptcy[[/note]] and asks "What's next... a new Creator/BrendanFraser film?" In 2022, he would appear in ''Film/TheWhale'' to great critical acclaim. It's even been reported that he did the film in the first place as a result of that sin.
* MemeticMutation:
** "Discount X, ding" [[labelnote:Explanation]]When a character, setting etc. is mimicking a more famous example.[[/labelnote]]
** "This scene does not contain a lap dance".
** "[[WhyWontYouDie They survive this]]! - Ding!" [[labelnote:Explanation]]When a character survives something they wouldn't in real life.[[/labelnote]]
** "[[TitleDrop Roll credits]]" *''ding''*
** It's satire. [[labelnote:Explanation]][[ParodyRetcon The go-to explanation for any time the videos get information wrong or the guys act a bit entitled over their opinions on the matter]].[[/labelnote]]
** x: ''(anything)''. [=CinemaSins=]: *''ding''* [[labelnote:Explanation]]A sarcastic shorthand for their perceived tendency to "sin" literally everything about a movie just to fill an arbitrary counter, including basic essential aspects of a movie like including a title, actors, and a soundtrack, or things that it had previously criticized other movies (or even the same movie earlier in the review) [[MovingTheGoalposts for not including]].[[/labelnote]]
** That's racist. *''ding''*
* MemeticTroll: You're bound to become this if your channel about almost nothing but shitting on movies, good or bad, becomes popular.
* SugarWiki/MostWonderfulSound:
** The sound of a rewinding *ding* that comes with sins being taken off.
** Whenever Jeremy honestly laughs.
* {{Padding}}: Sins in later videos are prone to being plain statements of fact in order to increase the length of the video and make it more likely for [=YouTube=] to recommend to other viewers.
* ReviewsAreTheGospel: There are overzealous fans who will take the videos at face value and use it as evidence against a movie they dislike. The Cinema Sins crew have acknowledged this MisaimedFandom and for extra irony, they even stated they ''loved'' ''Film/TheAmazingSpiderMan'', their very first video.
* SeasonalRot: Initially, the videos were pointing out the actual ''flaws'' in movies, like a PlotHole or SpecialEffectsFailure. However, the show has gradually devolved into a parody of itself, picking apart a movie for the most minor things, like just showing the studio logo or having narration. It's telling that the earlier videos were around 5 minutes long, later ones are 20-30 minutes. ''At least''. Additionally, many of the sins now suffer from OverlyLongGag, are a lot more vulgar in their humor, or feature Jeremy getting angrier and louder (even if he's playing it up), sometimes a combination of some or all of the above.
* ShockingMoments: "Everything Wrong with ''Music/JustinBieber: Never Say Never''". At first, it seems like the film has a standard sin score, with 98 sins respectively. Then the bonus rounds happen...by the end, the film now has over '''''13,332,791,808 sins'''''. For reference, that's ''the most sins a movie has ever gotten on the entire series''.
* TakeThatScrappy: [[KidAppealCharacter Jar-Jar Binks]] single-handedly earned [[Film/ThePhantomMenace his film]] over one hundred sins. Twice.
* TearJerker:
** The second-to-last stinger for the ''WesternAnimation/BigHero6'' sins video is a mashup of the "Hiro, I will always be with you" scene with the similar, just as tearjerking scene from ''WesternAnimation/TheIronGiant''.
** Regardless of one's thoughts on the matter, the "Review Crew" scandal is this as Jeremy appeared to be deeply hurt in his accusation video I and over the attacks from his own fans against Screen Junkies. This is especially sad when one considers the tight bond the fans of both channels share.
** Jeremy reveals in his review of ''Film/TheMightyDucks'' that he had an abusive baseball coach as a kid, one who spent a whole car ride telling him he'd never be as good as his older brother. "We were eleven!" indeed.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks:
** Before [=YouTube=] hid the dislikes in November 2021, the "Like/Dislike" ratio would skew more towards dislike if the creators actually does something different than their regular schtick, especially if they have a Special Guest Voiceover. The guys have now started mocking those who get upset.
** Some fans will sometimes complain that new videos are either too long (many twenty minutes or longer compared to earlier videos of five minutes or less) or rely too heavily on [[RunningGag running gags]] or dumb jokes instead of actual sins. While making longer videos came with the channel making more revenue, the latter forgets that [[OlderThanTheyThink there were just as many lowbrow jokes in the original sins videos as there were actual sins.]]
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Jeremy can come across as this in his ''Dear Hollywood videos.'' While his pleas for more original and better films are a reasonable demand, his often vulgar demeanor makes him come across as rather entitled and arrogant.
