* GeniusBonus:
** The vampires' family name is "Magpyr". Before his research into Transylvanian history turned up the name of a certain warlord infamous for impaling his enemies, Bram Stoker had intended to call Dracula "Lord Vampyr".
** The book mentions stuffing a lemon in the mouth as a way to fight vampires. In Germany, one common vampre-slaying method was cutting off the head and sticking a lemon in the mouth.
** On Roundworld, at least, axes are indeed a holy symbol.
** The Omnians have several anti-witch books, the first of which mentioned is the Malleus Maleficarum, a reference to the Roundworld witchfinder tome of the same name, which translates as The Hammer of Witches. Other such texts are Auriga Clavorum Maleficarum and Torquus Simiae Maleficarum, with the set collectively known as the Arca Instrumentorum. These more or less translate as The Screwdriver of Witches, The Monkey Wrench of Witches, and The Box of Tools.
* StrawmanHasAPoint: While the vampires are most certainly tyrants, Vlad's HannibalLecture to Agnes does a little too good a job at arguing that they're not actually worse tyrants than the regular, standard-issue nobility and royalty that rules most places on the Disc. In fairness, other Discworld books treat nobility and royalty with great scepticism, but this particular book takes place in a monarchy ruled by a somewhat bumbling but ultimately heroic Good King whose subjects have been mentioned to staunchly refuse any efforts to introduce democratic reforms - though it's also worth noting that the Lancrastrian monarchy has never been particularly powerful, considering that its armed forces consist entirely of Shawn Ogg, and Verence is usually politely ignored by his subjects. And the real sticking point is not that they're a case of AristocratsAreEvil - they are predators, predators treating people like cattle, and expecting them to be grateful for it.
