* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: Of Nathaniel Adam, the second Captain Atom - blindly loyal government stooge and hawkish military man unable to shake his MyCountryRightOrWrong mindset, or a good man struggling to do the right thing with the god like power that he's been granted? It's very much a case of DependingOnTheWriter.
** The New 52 version of Nate makes it very clear that he won't work strictly for the government.
** Bear in mind also that in the Bates and Weisman series, he was written as a former special operations officer and was portrayed realistically as such. For those who don't know, it has often been said that if special operations officers weren't the most badass soldiers in the world, they would be hippies. Indeed, Cap more or less did become a hippy once he left the service during the Bates-Weisman run. The more hawkish government stooge portrayal came quite a bit later from writers who were obviously unfamiliar with the character or just didn't care.
* CompleteMonster: Major Force. See [[Monster/TheDCU here]] for elaboration.
* IconicSequelOutfit: Captain Atom's ComicBook/PostCrisis silver/white containment suit with red gloves and blue boots is more well known than the red and yellow number he wore in his original Creator/CharltonComics series.
* MemeticLoser: Gets hit with this due to his tendency to show up in events just to [[MadeOfExplodium explode]]. For instance, it’s about the only thing he does in ComicBook/KingdomCome.
%%* MyRealDaddy: John Ostrander who wrote Nightshade in the Suicide Squad and Bill Willingham who wrote her in Shadowpact.
* {{Narm}}: The third costume worn by the original Charlton Comics Captain Atom, a strange red/blue combo that replaced his yellow WesternAnimation/MightyMouse-esque costume. Even by Silver Age standards, the third suit was just plain goofy looking.
* NarmCharm: The yellow suit. It has a certain WesternAnimation/MightyMouse charm to it.
* TheWoobie: Between her troubled relationship with her father and her mother and brother dying, Nightshade has had a pretty rough life.
