* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: The song parodies.
* HarsherInHindsight: The "Life Cycles" episode starts with Bill playing an old man looking back on his life, including how he "passed on some genes" (had children). The episode ends with Bill pointing out that death isn't the end of the line for a life cycle because of reproduction, which starts a new cycle all over again. These humorous, mundane, even hopeful lines become sad after 2017, when Nye first revealed that, due to [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ataxia ataxia]] running in his family, he made the conscious decision not to have kids of his own to avoid passing on the gene.
* SugarWiki/HeartwarmingMoments: The "Germs" episode features a segment where several kids talk about how they were born with [=AIDS=] or contracted it. Each one is a CheerfulChild and says the most important thing about having the virus is remembering to have a normal life and for other people to treat them as normal. The group then plays games at an amusement park and goes on a rollercoaster.
* HilariousInHindsight:
** The fake ad for water sold in bottles as a sports drink. At the time, it was funny to imagine that anyone would do that. Now it's hilarious that they actually do -- and it's a massive cash cow.
** In the episode about gravity, Bill stands outside a movie theater that is ostensibly playing a film called "Gravity" (and there's silent film parody of people being affected by it). [[Film/{{Gravity}} Come 2013]]...
** The running gag in the "Dinosaurs" episode where they show old movie footage of dinosaurs and humans interacting to remind people that that NEVER happened with dinosaurs that aren't birds. As it turns out, Bill takes this ''quite'' seriously as he's recently made it his life's work to completely obliterate the theory of creationism (which claims the exact opposite).
** One Season 4 episode is a countdown of his [[WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic Top 11]] best music videos -- particularly amusing to Creator/DougWalker fans, who made such countdowns part of his SignatureStyle. [[CatchPhrase Why Top 11?]] In Bill's case, "Because it's a prime number."
** The intro shows Bill at the end of the famous "March of Progress" image, which depicts an ape slowly gaining the ability to walk upwards as it evolves into a human. Thanks to Nye's steadfast anti-creationism beliefs, it almost comes off as a real-life EstablishingCharacterMoment.
* JustHereForGodzilla:
** A lot of youngsters just tuned in for the entertaining skits, songs and wacky presentation, without much concern for the science being to blatantly taught to them.
** Adult UsefulNotes/{{Seattle}} residents watched this to see the ''Series/AlmostLive'' cast members, as KING had cancelled the series at that point.
%%* MemeticBadass: ''Bill Nye''.
* MemeticMutation: Bill Nye the [[Website/FourChan doubles]] guy!
** "Consider the following:"
** "Richie, eat your crust!"
*** [[LargeHam "MY PLATES!!! MY TECTONIC PLATES!!!!"]]
** The Chinese theme song: "[[http://youtu.be/THH7P08zuhU BEER!]] BEER! BEER! BEER!"
* MisBlamed: Some people wrongfully accused Creator/{{Netflix}} or Bill Nye himself of censoring the series by editing out a segment about sex chromosomes. [[http://www.indiewire.com/2017/06/netflix-bill-nye-the-science-guy-censorship-1201837460/ The edit was actually made in 2007 when Buena Vista decided to sell 31 of the episodes on iTunes]], and cut out many segments they couldn't get the music or talent rights to. [[ReclusiveArtist The actress in that segment couldn't be found]], so it was cut.
* NightmareFuel:
** Bill gets stuck in a tidal flat. He explains that QuicksandSucks doesn't exist in real life-- at least, you won't be buried alive in sand. Instead, you'll more likely be in an area with water, so if you do panic, then you may sink to the bottom and drown. In the case of a tidal flat, the problem is that the tide may come in and envelop you in water. He gets rescued before it gets that far.
** One segment shows the consequences of a world without water or liquids. It shows objects vanishing from the fridge, and reservoirs running dry. Then the girl looking around starts coughing and collapses. It cuts to her having turned to dust. Yeesh.
** The "Pollution Solution" episode ends with Bill getting tangled in scrap wiring and then ''falling into a trash compactor''.
--->'''Narrator:''' No actual science guys were hurt in the filming of this episode!
* RetroactiveRecognition: The show's narrator, Creator/PatCashman, is better known as the announcer for ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosBrawl'' as well as the voice of Master Hand and Crazy Hand in that game.
* SacredCow: Used to be this. Similar to Mr. Rogers, Bill Nye was one of the most beloved people around, ''especially'' on the internet. His staunch activism against anti-science groups had elevated him to near god-like status. This status started to become eroded however after Bill got increasingly political and made some... Distinct statements on [[BeliefMakesYouStupid religion]] and [[HardOnSoftScience philosophy]]. Unfortunately, the premiere of ''Series/BillNyeSavesTheWorld'' with its shortcomings and the controversial topics it presented [[CreatorKiller fully ended this status]].
* SpiritualSuccessor: To "Watch Mr. Wizard", though Bill was a bit longer on the gags and shorter on the DIY stuff.
