* ContestedSequel: It's overall considered on the lower end of the DCAU productions, but had a better than expected reception coming after the release of ''Film/BatmanAndRobin''.
* HoYay: Some of Freeze and Dr. Belson's interactions can be interpreted in this way.
* HarsherInHindsight:
** The happy moments between Dick and Barbara, considering how later stories in the animated continuity imply that things eventually go badly between them.
** The later ''[[ComicBook/TheBatmanAdventures Batman: The Adventures Continue]]'' tie-in comic then reveals that Nora lived only a short few years and [[YankTheDogsChain then died from the same illness]].
* HilariousInHindsight:
** A pop remix of the standard "Am I Blue" plays on the radio in Barbara Gordon's room. In the ''WesternAnimation/JusticeLeague'' episode "This Little Piggy", Batman goes onstage in a nightclub and sings -- you guessed it -- "Am I Blue".
** The movie's subtitle is this when you realize that [[VideoGame/MortalKombatVsDCUniverse Mortal Batman would later meet a guy named Sub-Zero in]] [[VideoGame/Injustice2 two crossovers]]. The latter of which has Mr. Freeze himself as a premium skin.
* JerkassWoobie:
-->'''Barbara:''' How can you treat people this way?\
'''Freeze:''' It's the way they've always treated me. Nora was the only good thing in my life... and they took her from me. I don't care what I have to do to get her back.
* KarmicOverkill: Dr. Belson's fate of getting crushed by the debris of the oil rig. He may have been an OpportunisticBastard who willingly put Barbara in danger just so he can pay a debt, but he was still the lesser evil compared to Mr. Freeze, who murdered an innocent submarine crew for a complete accident.
* NightmareFuel:
** Mr. Freeze's revenge on the submarine crew. Imagine returning to the cave where your team's sub is parked after a scientific expedition...only to discover the frozen corpses of your comrades.
** Being kidnapped for an involuntary organ transplant.
*** Adds a fine layer of FridgeHorror when you realize that there were seventeen other people on the list that were compatible with Nora's blood type. Seventeen ordinary people who aren't superheroes, who don't spend their time with the world's greatest detective, and wouldn't have the police commissioner sending all available forces to look for them. If Mr. Freeze had chosen anyone else on that list, they would have been brutally killed.
* SoOkayItsAverage: The general consensus is that while Sub-Zero was a solid movie with good animation, it just wasn't as groundbreaking or as masterful as ''WesternAnimation/BatmanMaskOfThePhantasm'' or ''WesternAnimation/BatmanBeyondReturnOfTheJoker''.
