Go To

* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: He and Wrestling/AkiraMaeda had a match in New Japan in which they both refused to do the job, so Akira floored Andre by kicking his legs a lot. Then Andre threw Akira out of the ring. When Maeda came back for more Andre was now in the mood to job but Maeda refused to go over. Then Antonio Inoki came out and demanded the match end, much to the audience's confusion.
* GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff:
** He was arguably bigger in Japan than he was in America, which is saying something.
** In Mexico he is revered at the same level of Wrestling/ElSanto or any other [[MaskedLuchador Mexican legend.]]
* MemeticBadass: In a unique case, Andre is often treated as such not in terms of his abilities, but of his ''size.'' Look up any photo of Andre on the internet, and chances are someone has jokingly claimed that it depicts something that makes him seem even bigger than he actually is (for example, claiming a photo of him next to a child is actually him standing next to a grown man.)
* MemeticMutation:
** "André The Giant has a posse." A meme that started ''before'' the Internet. This of course inspired the iconic [[https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0827/9097/products/ObeyIconhighres_1024x1024.jpg?v=1435265610 "Obey"]] image created by graffiti artist Shepard Fairy.
** Remember when Andre the Giant tripped/bodyslammed himself at Wrestlemania 3? [[labelnote:Explanation]]A reference to Hulk Hogan getting [[{{Unperson}} Unpersoned]] following his use of racist language being bought to light.[[/labelnote]]
** [[https://media0.giphy.com/media/5KyYuIyRe1KeI/200.gif This GIF]] of André looking utterly terrified (for context, Jake had threatened to unleash his snake on him) has become a bit of a meme, particularly on Tumblr.
* NightmareFuel:
** One actually lampshaded. During a 1981 match against Wrestling/KillerKhan at the Philadelphia Spectrum, announcer Kal Rudman remarked that the beating that Andre was delivering to Khan (in retaliation for trying to take him out months earlier) was nothing short of "a nightmare."
** Arguably, the one thing that kicked off his feud with Wrestling/JakeRoberts: A snake, being wrapped around his body, to the point where Andre suffered a [[HollywoodHeartAttack (kayfabe) mild heart attack]].
* OlderThanTheyThink: André had been body slammed many times before his ''Wrestlemania III'' match with Hulk Hogan. Hogan himself had done the deed several times before then. [[https://youtu.be/vQjC1mTSklk?si=jxkeXwP1gWu8uF3C See here.]]
* TearJerker:
** Once saved his brother's life by overturning the tractor he was stuck under. He said about it in his biography that "It's okay that I have this condition that's going to kill me, I now know that God had a plan for my size".
** In retrospect, watching many of André's later matches in the late '80s. His match against Wrestling/HulkHogan (in which he won his first and only WWF title) in 1988 was especially painful. At that point, he could barely move and could only manage a small handful of offensive moves, limited to punches and one or two bodyslams. At the time, audiences would have seen him as a typical slow and plodding big man, but with the knowledge of his medical condition now more widespread, it's easy (and heartbreaking) to see the pain that he goes through while performing.
** Just look at any video or photo of him once he began wearing the black singlet, it's clear just by looking at his waistline he's wearing a back brace trying desperately to support his spine, judging by how his waistline is pushed in. It's a band-aid at most, back supports aren't designed for people of Andre's size, they just can't contain that kind of bulk, so Andre had to keep working and living with half-measures.
** André died while he was in Paris for his father's funeral. Have to feel sorry for his family.
** Purportedly one of André's dreams, which he confessed to his agent near the end of his life, was to go and see a live theatre show. His agent offered to buy a couple of tickets so the two of them could go see a show, but André declined, explaining that - thanks to his size - he wouldn't be able to fit in the seats and he would block the view of anyone sitting behind him.
* TooCoolToLive: Died at the age of 46 due to heart failure; this was partially due to his enormous size.
