* AntiClimaxBoss: The Queen of Monsters, the GreaterScopeVillain of the Chaos Lords Saga, Drakath's secret master, a recurring villain for 6 years running. All in all ultimate villain of the entire game right? [[spoiler:Malgor shows up out of nowhere and the Queen is abruptly decapitated. You [[TheUnfought never even get to fight her]]... until the "Into the Plane of Monsters" and "Queen of Monsters: First Reign" storylines, that is.]]
* AssPull:
** During the Arcangrove Saga, you run around collecting the four pieces of the Supreme Arcane Staff to use to defeat Ledgermayne with (the last piece, the Chaos Focus Gem, gets broken into shards by Ledgy but the shards are accepted into the staff), but during the battle you don't need to use it until you feel the need to during the final cutscene, where Drakath appears to focus his Chaos powers through the staff, replacing the shattered gem and allowing it to blast Ledgermayne. And as a bonus, the Supreme Arcane Staff is even one of the item drops from Ledgermayne itself, which has a 1% chance of dropping the staff.
** [[spoiler:In the Sandsea saga, Sek-Duat tells you that you can only defeat Tibicenas with another Djinn, and the Djinn you get is Saahir, who tells you of how Tibi got kicked out of the Djinn world. Then later, [[TheWorfEffect Saahir goes to throw down with Tibi and gets owned by him. BADLY]]. [[CurbStompBattle And he doesn't even last five seconds against him.]] However, as requested by yourself, the Efreet strips Tibi of all his Djinn powers turning him into something you can actually defeat, proving that now you don't need another Djinn to beat him.]]
** [[spoiler:You can skip the Tower of Necromancy without having to become a Necromancer by completing quests to create a fake Necro U ID. You can still buy the Necromancer class if you want, but you won't need it to enter the Necropolis whatsoever.]]
** At the end of the Mythsong storyline, [[spoiler:Kimberly being the actual Sixth Lord of Chaos came out of nowhere and was hard to predict for people who had not seen the LateArrivalSpoiler.]]
** During the Queen of Monsters saga finale, we see [[spoiler:that the Queen has been killed, with the new BigBad Malgor holding her head in front of the hero. Then Malgor reveals that it wasn't him who killed her, but the hero who just so happened to forget those events. Keep in mind that there was no mention or hint of Malgor anywhere beforehand.]] Technically, [[spoiler:Malgor]] does actually appear during a story recap cutscene in Dreadrock Citadel, but it's rather easy to miss for newer players. This makes it more so FiveSecondForeshadowing.
* AudienceColoringAdaptation: As the most well-known of the Creator/ArtixEntertainment games, it is this game's version of characters that became the goto versions.
** Thanks to AQW, Drakath is forever ingrained as the Champion of Chaos. Not some {{dracolich}} like he was in ''VideoGame/AdventureQuest'', not the HarmlessVillain underling of Sepulchure like he was in ''VideoGame/DragonFable''. Drakath is the BigBad and the mightiest villain of all.
** Gravelyn is now the iconic Empress of the Shadowscythe. Few remember or care about when she was a baby in ''VideoGame/DragonFable''.
** Noxus is now better known as a [[DemBones skeletal lich]] which is a farcry from the human {{necromancer}} he was back in ''VideoGame/DragonFable''.
* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: All of the theme music for the Throne of Darkness Sagas. They even get reused by ''VideoGame/DragonFable''.
* BaseBreakingCharacter: The Queen of Monsters. Some think of her as a worthy successor to Drakath and that her stories progress in an interesting direction. Others despise her for replacing the far more popular Drakath, view her stories as a complete unorganized mess, especially the Elemental Titans being an AbortedArc. However regardless of the views about her, nobody approved of the TakeThatScrappy moment where she is [[spoiler:unceremoniously killed off by Malgor at the end of her storyline.]]
* CompleteMonster: See [[Monster/ArtixEntertainment here]].
%%Do not add any other entries without discussing it in the cleanup thread first.
* ContinuityLockOut: Because this game is the ''most recent'' title set in another AlternateUniverse of other [[Creator/ArtixEntertainment AE games]], those numerous [[ContinuityNod little references]] (coupled with the aforementioned difficulty) of playing the ''whole'' story from the beginning ''can'' make it difficult to figure out what's going on each week- as well as who some of the people or {{Non Player Character}}s you keep encountering were ''supposed'' to be (for new players).
* CreatorsPet: Memet the nightmare moglin is a character that receives quite some flak from fans due to her constant featuring in filler releases, and her character doesn’t provide anything interesting aside from being able to serve as a messenger for greater characters like Mirror Drakath. This is partly due to the fact that the real life Memet is the main story release writer, and it just so happens that she likes featuring herself in events.
* CreepyAwesome:
** Vordred. A [=DeathKnight=] who [[OmnicidalManiac exists to end the world]], and turns others into his undead slaves.
** Sally. Her AffablyEvil ploy is cute, funny, and downright creepy.
* DracoInLeatherPants: Multiple villains are this trope.
%%ZCE Drakath
%%ZCE As well as Zorbak
** Gravelyn also counts since she has lots of fans.
** Sepulchure naturally has fans as well.
* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** [[EvilRedhead Gravelyn]]. It's very hard to find someone who ''doesn't'' like her. She is one of the main reasons why so-many players chose to align with Evil in the first place.
** [[VillainOfAnotherStory Sepulchure]], despite his very limited time onscreen, is still an extremely popular villain. Storylines and cutscenes featuring the Doomknight tend to be among the best.
** Chuckles the skeleton, who appears to be headed for AscendedExtra status.
*** Artix even mentions it in the Design Notes: it was actually a joke that went way out of control. It even brought about its own cheesy commercial, T-shirt and a quest in game to save said skeleton.
*** [[spoiler:As of the end of the Shadowfall War, Chuckles is back, and with a new body (Noxus' former one) courtesy of Gravelyn! Who says wishes can't come true?]]
*** There is also a fish based on Chuckles called The Chuckles Fish.
** Dage the Evil has a [[{{Pun}} Legion]] of fans.
** Red Hunting Hood is pretty popular and is viewed as a clever take on the classic [[Literature/LittleRedRidingHood fairytale]].
** The cute dancing moglin in Frostval.
** Xeven the Chrono Assassin from the "Throne of Darkness" Saga. Her Paradox Portal release was one of the most well received in the game.
** A lot of the moglin pets have become these
*** Most notably the Slendermog and Slender Battlemoglin, both based off [[Franchise/TheSlenderManMythos Slenderman]].
*** The various Franchise/StarWars themed Moglins.
** Fa, the assistant of Darkon who is often seen playing her parody of the UsefulNotes/NintendoSwitch, seems to have attracted a lot of fans for her [[{{Moe}} cute]], [[TheQuietOne quiet]], and [[EmotionlessGirl emotionless]] personality, seeing as how much fanart has been put up since the release of [[NightmareFuel the terrifying Summit of Insanity area]].
** The other members of the Scale, as well as [[spoiler:Darkon's love interest Suki]], are also very popular, and have a lot of fanart dedicated to them as well. King Drago counts as well due to being a very convincing HateSink. The fandom reacted with huge amounts of enthusiasm when they learned that So, Fa, and Mi[[spoiler:, the three surviving members of the Scale after the ending of Darkon's Elegy of Madness saga]], were all involved in the Age of Ruin saga (and were also led to believe that [[spoiler:Suki]] was involved until the big reveal [[spoiler:that it was actually So disguised as her]]).
** Waddles the Duck's popularity exploded with the fandom the moment he arrived with the Birds with Harms Harvest Day 2022 update, as he was subjected to lots of pictures with him as the star. His popularity even resulted in him appearing in several monthly event hub maps.
* FandomRivalry: With ''VideoGame/AdventureQuest3D'', primarily due to the fact that some of the AQW crew was moved over to work on [=AQ3D=], and that a lot of AQW’s fans feel as if their game is being neglected.
* FanonDiscontinuity: A lot of the story beyond 13 Lords of Chaos (aside from maybe the Throne of Darkness saga) is often skimmed over or outright ignored by a sizable portion of players, with them often citing its inconsistency, frequent filler villains, and forgettable, underdeveloped characters as reasons why. Some have also voiced their dislike of the main story's CerebusSyndrome that started kicking in later in the 13 Lords of Chaos saga.
* [[HoYay Les Yay]]: Gravelyn and Robina/Victoria. They're supposed to only be working together as part of an alliance, but they seemingly become close friends. In the Infernal Invasion Saga, Victoria is still with Gravelyn after all this time, and she and Gravelyn hug after the Shadowscythe rescues them.
** [[spoiler:Though one should consider it is '''heavily''' implied that Victoria and Gravelyn are half-sisters right? Whether or not they're aware of this is left ambiguous, but if they are then they may have gotten closer after learning they have the same mother.]]
* LoveToHate:
** Drakath and Sepulchure, two of the highest profile villains from ''Creator/ArtixEntertainment'' who pretty much [[WolverinePublicity sell the game]].
%%ZCE Escherion.
** Even though he's a SmugSnake, Vath also counts. You can't help but admire how handsome he looks.
** Ledgermayne is also eligible for this, despite crossing the MoralEventHorizon by shattering the Chaos Focus Gem.
* IKnewIt: Many fans correctly guessed that Sepulchure's wife is [[spoiler:Queen Lynaria, given that Sepulchure mentioned her name back in VideoGame/DragonFable]].
* MemeticBadass: Artix. If he wasn't badass enough, this game adds that [[spoiler:he's the Champion of Darkness with the power to lay waste to the world.]]
** Class-wise, classes that are considered underpowered or outright [[JokeCharacter joke classes]] such as Rustbucket, No Class, and Hobo Highlord (a variant of No Class) are often praised by the community as being able to beat the top-tier classes (including the likes of Void Highlord and Yami no Ronin).
* MemeticMutation: Borgars. [[labelnote:Explanation]] Derived from the controversial [[WesternAnimation/BobsBurgers Yulgar’s Börgars]] release, which was either praised due to the event’s craziness and visiting of older maps, or criticized due to it being filler, having non [=AC-tagged=] items, and having tedious quests. [[/labelnote]]
** [=HollowbornQuest=] Worlds. [[labelnote:Explanation]] The frequent featuring of Lae’s and Snowvers’ Hollowborn sets, which mostly consist of blackish remakes of other sets that have eye color-custom spots, has made certain segments of the community (particularly those that enjoy dressing up their character) riled up. Some even fear that Lae is overshadowing other artists in the development team, hence this meme. [[/labelnote]]
* MisBlamed: Cysero (the real-life person, not the NPC), as the head developer, gets an enormous amount of flak from the community for every thing they disagree with, even though he's not in charge of every single detail of the game.
* {{Moe}}: Fa is generally seen as this especially for her adorably quiet and emotionless personality and her habit of playing on her gaming console that resembles a Nintendo Switch.
* MoralEventHorizon:
** [[spoiler:After Lionfang is defeated following his KickTheDog moment of burning the gifts, he pulls a SUPREME dick move by knocking the orb holding the Spirit of Frostval out of the hero's hands and shattering it (which he had threatened to do at the start of the adventure, because it would kill her) and lays bare his intent to make the world suffer for "giving in to Evil" by destroying Frostval. Fortunately, the Spirit of Frostval cannot be killed so easily, and she returns to Lionfang's [[ThisCannotBe shock and disbelief]] in order to set everything right again.]]
*** [[spoiler:But that doesn't stop there; he has another horizon-crossing moment in the Thunderforge saga, and it's just as bad as the one in the Frostval events, if not worse. After having claimed the last vial of the Tears of the Mother that the hero and Sir Valence were going to destroy his Chaos with, he goes ahead and WASTES THAT LAST VIAL ON DRAKATH! And as it turns out, the Tears won't be able to effect him at all due to him being the Avatar of Chaos. Upon finding out this, it results in Lionfang's VillainousBreakdown where he tries to murder the hero in a fit of rage. Due to the fact that the vial he wasted on Drakath was the last vial itself, this means that there most likely won't be a cure for Chaorruption again for a long time, which is not good at all, because it eventually serves as a setup for the tragic events in Swordhaven (see Drakath below).]]
** [[spoiler: Vordred is becoming one: making every High Paladin, except Artix, into undead paladins? Yep. Turned US into an undead minion? Definitely. And what's worse? It's the person who helped CREATE him.]]
** Ledgermayne also crosses the line. Just when the hero is about to accept the Chaos Focus Gem into the Supreme Arcane Staff, Ledgermayne interrupts and voices the part where it had already informed him/her that he/she would not be allowed to complete the staff, and crushes the gem into shards in order to lay bare its intent to make sure of that. Because of this, the shards have been rendered too weak to use against it until Drakath comes to help him/her by focusing his Chaos energy through the staff, replacing the shards and allowing it to convert Ledgermayne back into the harmless mass of magic from which it was made.
** The Master crossed the line when he brought about Terra's DisneyVillainDeath by pushing her off a cliff and into the ocean. This action is what led to Captain Stratos' worst day. [[spoiler:And she's not the first of their siblings that Exos has murdered either -- Lithos was knifed to death for stopping him from murdering Stratos himself]].
** [[spoiler:Yeah, Dead Morice definitely crosses the line. Turning people into Ice Symbiotes? Check. Terrorizing the Frostvale Moglins? Check. And to top it all off? He HATES Frostval. So much that he decided everybody should be as cold-hearted as he is. And if it weren't for the hero refusing to succumb to his ice venom thanks to his/her determination and destroying him with the Flame of Frostval, he would've gotten away with it all.]]
** Sir Roderick starts off being a SmugSuper, but later crosses the MoralEventHorizon as well when he orchestrates for his henchmen to attack Lord Brentan before he ambushes him with an attack that mortally injures him from his back, and then has his henchmen drag Brentan to a garbage dump just to get him out of his way during the Tournament of Heroes. This action was more than enough for Brittany to label him as a monstrous brute as well as a [[SmugSnake treacherous snake]], and Brentan [[YouMonster called him a monster]] for that as well.
** It's hard to feel any kind of sympathy for Drakath anymore after the tragic events of the Swordhaven saga. [[spoiler:While the siege of Swordhaven by Drakath's forces is pretty standard villain fare by this point, and chaorrupting Swordhaven's sewers is a new level of low, everything takes a turn for the worse when King Alteon finally succumbs to the Chaorruption he's been having to deal with all game thanks to Drakath's first appearance, becoming the Twelfth Lord of Chaos and striking down his eldest daughter and heir to the throne Princess Brittany in a fit of Chaos-induced madness -- and right when she had just gotten married to Lord Brentan! And to make things even ''worse'', that tragic act happens to be the trigger for releasing the worst Chaos Beast yet, a three-headed Chaos Dragon who unleashes horrific devastation upon Swordhaven before the Hero is able to take it down, and King Alteon himself ultimately has to be slain when the Chaos proves too much for him. Because of all of this, Swordhaven will never be the same again, and will most likely never know peace for a long time due to the inevitable conflict for the throne. And from Drakath's smile as the twelfth seal is broken, you can just tell he's enjoying the whole show. ''Bastard'']].
*** [[spoiler:What makes it worse is that King Alteon refused to allow himself to be cured of the Chaorruption until Drakath's defeat - not even by the Tears of the Mother. Sadly, the vial of the Tears he refused to allow himself to be cured by was the last vial of the Tears, and Lionfang later wasted said vial on Drakath, seeing for himself that Drakath could not be effected by the Tears and instead only shrugged them off and allowed them to boil onto his solidified storm clouds, therefore seeing to Lionfang being the one to be deprived of Chaorruption. Since that was the last cure left for Chaorruption, this means that there's no cure left, which therefore meant that Alteon's condition would only get worse, making both Lionfang and Drakath responsible for that whole series of tragic events. This, in fact, was what infuriated the hero so much after these tragic events that he / she decided that they would have every reason to want Drakath taken down and made to pay for all the pain and suffering caused to the people of Lore by the Chaos spread by him.]]
*** And it gets even worse in the Mount Doomskull saga. [[spoiler:After delivering a CurbStompBattle to the Hero in a HopelessBossFight, he proceeds to ''ACTUALLY'' Chaorrupt him/her into the 13th and final Lord of Chaos, who then has their own army of Chaos monsters go on a rampage all over Lore, destroying different areas and even manipulating the Lycans into murdering Safiria. As they confront him again not long after summoning the Eternal Dragon of Time, he, after revealing them to be the dragon itself, overpowers said dragon, rips out its soul, and crushes it, thus actually murdering the Hero and sending them down to the Underworld, and tries his hand at attempting to get around their respawning capabilities by controlling Death into forbidding them to respawn again like usual. Since the defeat of all 13 Chaos Lords is required for the full opening of the Chaos Portal, this, worst of all, means that Drakath's horizon-crossings are what eventually trigger an ApocalypseWow event, especially when the Queen of Monsters is finally set free into Lore once more]].
** [[spoiler:Karok the Fallen's past may be tragic, but his own horizon-crossing moment of killing Lorentz and destroying the Horologium Gate that the hero and Syrrus intended to send the Frostspawn horde back through is absolutely unforgivable. His heinous act of killing Thermax later on and then gloating about how his enemies would never be able to win no matter how many heroes they threw at him afterwards is even worse, especially since Thermax was the new Champion of Ice, meaning that a new Champion will have to be born soon. And judging from what Kyanos and Abel said after Karok's second defeat, you can just tell that [[ThisIsUnforgivable they have every reason to want to see that both Karok and the Queen of Monsters pay for what they had done]].]]
** [[spoiler:General Nevanna loses a lot of sympathy when she murders her own former teammate, Aven Greywhorl, to prevent both him and the hero from recovering the Celestial Horn of Balance. If that's not enough, she even gloats about Brightoak's imminent fate and tells the hero to "be prepared to kneel" the next time they meet and then disposes of Aven's corpse and summons a horrific monster in his place. And to make matters worse, she later has the Earth Titan Gaiazor unleash massive destruction upon Brightoak, especially with the World Tree crippled beyond repair. And after her freedom from the Queen of Monsters' influence by Aven's spirit, [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone she realizes the consequences of her actions and is led to know herself that these actions of hers will never be forgiven]], which is why she decides she can't stay in Brightoak due to the fact that she crossed the horizon herself with all the horrible acts she committed against her own home while under the Queen's control.]]
** [[spoiler:The murder of Xeven as she performed her HeroicSacrifice for the hero is what really crossed it for the Mors Temporis, which probably enraged several fans of Xeven herself into cursing said boss monster in their very eyes, even to the point of possibly vowing to make it pay for that.]]
** [[spoiler:The Infernals crossed it when they killed Princess Tara during Swordhaven's part of the Infernal Invasion storyline. While she was revealed to have survived her death and been reborn as the Champion of Mana in the Shadowflame finale, that still doesn't change the fact that what they did to her is absolutely unforgivable.]]
** [[spoiler:Kolyaban the Rehsaper crossed it when we learn of what she did to Aria: turning her into a monster and bending her to her will, which, without a doubt, forces the hero to fight against her. And what's worse is the fact that [[KarmaHoudini she got scot-free]] the minute Eremon jumped in the way of Aria's attack that was meant for Kolyaban, giving her the chance to escape.]]
** If you thought [[spoiler:Glutus roasting dragonslayers with his fire breath and rotating them above fires to cook them, along with Valsarian attacking Darkmoor Village, enslaving its residents as a result, having his Drakel shock anyone trying to defy him and threatening to kill those refusing to serve him]] were bad enough, you'd be surprised to learn just what kind of sick bastard [[spoiler:Goregold]] would have to be to actually [[spoiler:slaughter his own fellow dragons just to steal their own treasure hoards for himself out of his own over-inflated greed. Galanoth even lampshades it himself]].
-->'''Galanoth:''' [[spoiler:''[after completing the "Follow the Trail" quest]'' [[ThisCannotBe I can't believe it]] - this dragon was so greedy that it was actually killing its own kind for their treasure! That's a kind of evil that even other dragons can't achieve. Still I am relieved that Goregold turned out to be the culprit, rather than one of the members of our Order. That would have been hard to accept, no matter who it was.]]
** As with his appearance in VideoGame/DragonFable, Drakonnan crossed it during the Great Fire War when [[spoiler:he mind-controlled Akriloth into destroying Ashenvale and later destroyed the Frozen Claymore and killed Demento in front of both the hero and Galanoth]].
** Malgor flies over the edge of the MEH when [[spoiler:he attempts to kill Fiamme after draining her Fire Avatar powers out of her and giving them to Tyndarius. If she hadn't awakened Galanoth as the Champion of Fire, he would've succeeded in doing so and been damned even further in the eyes of players. If that doesn't already cross it for him, his later attempt to corrupt the Mana Core while declaring himself everyone's salvation does, and it results in a huge crisis involving magic and mana that delivers huge damage to Lore and its residents when it results in Princess Tara and the Old World Order lashing out at him for said attempt]].
** King Drago crossed it in Darkon's backstory [[spoiler:when he turned all of Astravia against Regulus, Titania and Aurola - the third of whose eye he gouged out - and fatally wounded Suki, Darkon's love interest, and later [[SadisticChoice forced Darkon himself to have Alprecha crown him king instead of him if he wanted to see Suki again]] before fatally injuring him with a back slash to his head as well, leading Drago himself to become TheCaligula for Astravia that he is today]].
* {{Narm}}: Glutus is built up to be a repulsive [[ImAHumanitarian [=Maneater=]]] monster, however when fighting him the first time only his head acts as an individual monster. If the player moves to the side, his head floats off from his body to follow the player.
* PlayerPunch: [[spoiler:Kolyaban certainly made players feel terrible once they saw that she turned the sweet and innocent Aria into a [[MixAndMatchCritters mix-and-match monster mutant]] and [[BrainwashedAndCrazy placed her completely under her control]].]]
* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: Malgor used to be detested for [[spoiler:appearing out of nowhere and abrubtly killing the Queen of Monsters and rendering her TheUnfought until the "Plane of Monsters" and "Queen of Chaos" sagas (as she developed a compelling story and served as the ultimate villain despite all the hangups about her)]]. However, his CharacterDevelopment and [[spoiler:later reveal to have a tragic past and deep connection to the hero, as well as having a good reason for wanting to corrupt the Mana Core, resulted in players liking him even more as a villain and seeing him as a tragic WellIntentionedExtremist instead of the generic stock armored warlord villain they initially thought him to be. Having a badass OneWingedAngel design for the final boss fight of his saga boosted his popularity even further]].
* TheScrappy:
** Memet the Nightmare Goblin is viewed by many as a CreatorsPet who is given [[SpotlightStealingSquad too much focus]] and is often a pointless QuestGiver shoehorned into events.
** Eremon started out as likable when he was at first helping the players out in their search for Aria and Kolyaban, but soon shot way up to this status when [[spoiler:he betrayed them and Madra to side with Kolyaban, and later pulled off a SenselessSacrifice to save her, which, no surprise, was not mourned by a single player since Kolyaban crossed the MoralEventHorizon by turning Aria into a monster earlier.]].
** Malgor, the overall BigBad of the Shadows of War storyline, used to be this. At first, he was heavily disliked for [[spoiler:abruptly showing out of nowhere and killing the Queen of Monsters, making her TheUnfought AntiClimaxBoss at first.]] This made him a ReplacementScrappy to the Queen of Monsters, as despite all the hangups about her she still delivered a compelling storyline and maintained her status as the ultimate villain. Malgor by contrast was initially seen as a very generic stock Creator/ArtixEntertainment villain of a heavily armored warlord and conqueror seen in many games. As the story progressed, though, he underwent CharacterDevelopment, [[spoiler:making him a WellIntentionedExtremist vulnerable to hope and Elemental Champion powers, and revealed that his plan was to take control of Lore's leylines in order to save it and bring it peace through complete and utter silence with the heroes feeling sorry for him in the end but still fighting to find another way to bring peace instead of killing everybody through the corruption of the Mana Core, revealing a much better reason for him to have killed the Queen and a well-developed tragic backstory revealed in the finale, and he got an awesome OneWingedAngel design for the final boss fight of the saga, making him much more well-liked as a villain and now being seen as a tragic AntiVillain with a deep connection to the hero instead of the generic stock armored warlord villain that AE players initially thought him to be]].
* TakeThatScrappy: The Queen of Monsters [[spoiler:being abruptly killed off at the end of her Saga can be seen as this, due to the very vocal hatred projected at her by many players, leading the devs to DroppedABridgeOnHim, making her an AntiClimaxBoss and TheUnfought.]]
* ThatOneAttack:
** Ledgermayne's charged-up attack hits any players that aren't in the safe zones for massive damage that can OneHitKill players with anywhere below 1,600 HitPoints.
** Tibicenas has his Claw Swipe AOE, which can take you down to 1 HP in one blow and which he starts using once he's down to half his health. If you're a player who likes to solo, you will HATE this move.
** Khasaanda's ability to shut down your most-used skills has caused headaches to many a party trying to face her.
*** And Binky and Undead Raxgore (and his ultra form) have inherited this ability from her.
** The mega-attacks possessed by all four of the prime dragons of the Dragonplane as well as Desoloth himself.
** The Desterrat Moya from Knave1's storyline has the ability to put a stun on you, which does not allow you to use any of your skills until it wears off.
** Ultra Epic Vordred's Shadow Grasp, which stuns you and leaves you unable to move or even attack for a while, along with his Noxious Decay attack that inverts your healing powers, causing your normal healing attacks to actually damage and poison you for a short moment, and his ability to enlarge his power by drawing from your life force, which causes you MASSIVE damage.
** Aeacus's Strenght in Death buff, which doubles his damage output for some time. His normal attacks during this deal are insanely powerful, having a 600-1100 damage range, and when he crits, which he does A LOT, he usually deals 2000+ damage. And if you thought this was bad, his Ultra version is even worse.
** The Ultra Chaos Dragon's Chaos Apocalypse attack is insanely powerful, plus it hits everyone for massive damage. That's quite a reason why a lot of people can't complete the "Defeat Ultra Chaos Dragon" quest provided by Celestia for many tries, wouldn't you agree?
* ThatOneBoss:
** Since the PTR update, all the main bosses have received a major damage upgrade and can easily wipe out a party that does not know what they are doing. But the Red Dragon of Vasalkar's Lair and Wolfwing, the fifth Chaos Lord, are in a class all their own in terms of difficulty.
** Also, if you thought Wolfwing and the Red Dragon were tough enough, just wait until you fight Vath, the third Chaos Lord, and Ledgermayne, the seventh Chaos Lord. Vath qualifies as ThatOneBoss because he has Stalagbite, who will stomp you to death for 3000 damage or more if you attack Vath first, and so does Ledgermayne because every once in a while it will stop to [[ThatOneAttack charge up a powerful attack and the game will urge you to enter the glowing safe zones]], and if you're not quick enough to get there in time, the resulting blast of the charged attack will deal massive damage and may even [[OneHitKill ONE HIT KILL YOU]].
** Tibicenas, the eighth Chaos Lord, can be pretty tough as well. Not only does he use an attack that heals himself and hits as many players as he wants for massive damage every once in a while, but, just like Wolfwing, he also goes berserk once his HP drops low enough, meaning he'll attack TWICE AS FAST! Think that's tough enough? Try your luck against Ultra-Tibicenas. He's himself, the Frost King, and the French Horned Toadragon combined. Not only does he have almost as high HP as the Frost King, he can petrify you for a few seconds every once in a while, steals life more often, and goes berserk when, instead of just below 5500 HP, it drops below 20000! YIKES!
** Out of all the Chaos Lords released so far, Khasaanda has proven to be the most difficult. Her [[ThatOneAttack ability to lock players' most-used attacks]], as well as her ability to use Prophetic Vision, which not only lets her become immune to all attacks for a while but also lets her foresee and counter them with the same amount of damage players would've inflicted on her, all adds up to an extremely frustrating Chaos Lord battle.
*** Raxgore and Ultra Raxgore are just like her, but with MUCH more hp (In the 1.5 million mark), making them nearly the epitome of DamageSpongeBoss. In particular, Prophetic Vision in Raxgore's hands is the bane of the Undead Slayer, who is normally a powerhouse against undead and quite capable of soloing tough undead bosses, because of the Undead Slayer's utter dependence upon attacking to maintain the Spirit Power they need for both their main attack powers and their healing.
** Ultra Epic Vordred qualifies big time. His ability to cause massive damage to multiple players at the same time is so goddamn annoying, plus he has the equally annoying abilities to stun you with his Shadow Grasp attack as well as to invert your healing powers with Noxious Decay, all of which makes him a total {{Troll}} and at the same time make this fight seem like a HopelessBossFight. It gets even worse when there's horrible lag to keep you from attacking.
** Meet Ultra Kathool. He's like normal Kathool, big deal, except that his Mind Twist allows him to regenerate much more health MUCH faster than his regular counterpart did, plus he has Kathool's Gaze, which can increase your mana costs. Sometimes Ultra Kathool tends to use an attack that causes MASSIVE damage. Just one critical attack with this much damage may guarantee a OneHitKill on you for sure.
** Ultra Lionfang can be pretty annoying to fight because his Curse of Chaos attack adds up additional damage for its [=DoT=] when used on you, much more so than his regular counterpart. This [=DoT=] especially gets worse when he petrifies you and either shifts his power or drains yours.
** The Ultra Blood Titan is truly a demonic, torturous DamageSpongeBoss that requires real planning and skill. Not only does it have ridiculously high HP (even if it's not as much as the Doom Overlord or Ultra Kathool), it also uses ''intensely painful'' attacks that all hit for huge damage, and that's not all, it can increase the damage range of its attacks with Bloodrage, which can kill you in seconds flat if you're unprepared.
** Binky the Magical Man Eating Unicorn is quickly shaping up to be one of the nastiest bosses of the game. Not only does this guy have a ton of HP to use and hit like a freight train, but he can use most if not all of the above {{That One Attack}}s from every boss this game has had in order to ruin your day.
** Aeacus qualifies too. While he doesn't have the tons of hp that Binky and Raxgore have, nor can he regenerate or lock players' skills, his normal attacks are insanely powerful, but the 4 temporary buffs that he keeps using during the battle are what make him a complete nightmare to defeat. He can raise his dodge chance to annoying levels, reduce all damage done to him by 3/4, double his critical hit's damage, or, for the complete nightmare, [[ThatOneAttack DOUBLE HIS ATTACK POWER (Which also doubles his criticals)]]. Oh, he can use any one of them at will, and can even use more than one per time. And if you thought he was difficult... try to beat his Ultra version. For both of them, killing entire parties in seconds is not unheard of.
** Ultra Chaos Dragon really had players running for the hills due to its ability to hit all players with a massive Chaos Apocalypse attack that is five times more powerful than its already highly damaging normal attacks. Not to mention, it even has about as much HP as Binky does, which probably means that players won't be able to defeat it quick enough before it unleashes said attack for many tries. Trust us, you do not want to face this boss. It's nearly impossible to take down, even if you have to defeat it to complete the quest involving it.
** Dage's Undead Horsemen can be incredibly hard to beat. While they're only level 35, all of them have six-digit health pools that are higher than most bosses of the same level and pack highly damaging attacks, which they will constantly use against you. Particular mention goes to Death and Famine, who can deal 2000+ damage ''per hit'' - enough to OneHitKill most players, even without considering critical hits. Facing them with a class dedicated to reducing damage (such as the [=StoneCrusher=]) makes them more bearable, though even they can have a hard time of it. As of September 2020, most bosses have been taking pages from the Horsemen, such as the Shadowflame Dragon, Elius, [[spoiler:Avatar Tyndarius]], the Queen of Monsters, [[spoiler:the Eternal Dragon as seen in the Deadlines map, the Mask of Tranquility and both Malgor in your second fight against him and his OneWingedAngel form, the Mainyu]], for example (and even before then there were also some non-ultra bosses that have been dealing highly damaging attacks such as the Scarsgarde Captain in the first chapter of the Sepulchure's Rise saga).
* ThatOneLevel: The Delta V Laboratory area based on BioBeasts has some of the toughest areas in the game to get through. You have to defeat every monster in each room in order to continue to the next, and some of the monsters' HP tends to be high. They also do good amounts damage, and some of the ones in later zones of the lab tend to become aggressive when you approach them. The most difficult zone, of course, is the final one, the hangar, where all of the monsters there are high-HP, high-damaging, and aggressive all at the same time. And what makes things even worse about how difficult the areas are is the fact that you have to keep the Hovership Token in your inventory in order to access the entirety of the area, or else start the whole Delta V Lab and its entire questline all over again. [[BreatherBoss At least the lab's boss, the Hovercraft, isn't as difficult as the zone it's placed in]].
* ThatOneSidequest: The quest chains to unlock the Blinding Light of Destiny and the separate, Legends-only "Sepulchure's Doomknight Armour" are absolutely brutal. Both require copious grinding to obtain ''over three million spirit orbs each'' (though this number assumes that the player doesn't find any Auras needed to make the equipment, which would require several thousand orbs each to make) which drop in increments of 5, 10, 15, and 20 from quests that require 25 or 40 of other drops from undead, [[LuckBasedMission metal which is a random drop from a daily quest]], and high amounts of Auras that can only be obtained through a random drop which requires a separate weapon that requires the above materials to make. It takes so much grinding that Artix himself estimated that either item would take players roughly SIX MONTHS of farming to obtain, and neither chain overlaps, so you're looking at a YEAR to obtain both pieces. And to top it off, the armour's only practical advantage over any other is a 51% damage buff against humans (which there are barely any) and the [=BLoD=]'s only practical advantage over any other is a 75% damage buff against Undead, [[BraggingRightsReward who you've killed tens of thousands of on the way to making it and were probably enough to get you to the level cap]].
** The Blade of Awe is comparatively much less brutal, but still frustrating; while the first four quests are fairly easy, the final one requires the Runes, [[LuckBasedMission an item which has a .1% drop rate (.3% from Tibiacenas)]]... and can only be obtained by fighting Chaos Lords, most of which have plenty of health, are at the ends of fairly lengthy quest chains, and are usually among the toughest enemies in the game. Expect to fight hundreds of them and spend several days while trying to complete this one. Thankfully, unlike the above two quests, the rewards are much more worthwhile, especially the Enchantments.
** The quest to unlock Drakath's armor quickly shapes up to be even more brutal than both of the BLOD & Blade of Awe quests, but still not as brutal as the quest for Sepulchure's armor. To unlock Drakath's armor, you would need to gather the Blade of Awe, the Blinding Light of Destiny, three Unidentified 13's, 100 Treasure Chests, a Le Chocolat, 13 of Dage's Scroll Fragments, and the Face of Chaos helmet. Since both the BLOD and the Blade of Awe are rewards from both of the above sidequests, the Face of Chaos is a 20% drop from the Champion of Chaos and a 2% drop from the regular Drakath monster, Treasure Chests are a 1% drop from all monsters, Unidentified 13's are rewards from Nulgath's quests, Dage's Scroll Fragments can only be obtained one at a time each day, and the Le Chocolat is found in a Hyperium shop and costs over 3 million gold... Yeah, good luck with that.
** If you thought getting the Blade of Awe was a pain, try getting the Armor of Awe set by killing the following monsters in the following number of times:
*** '''Ultra Akriloth:''' 225 times
*** '''Carnax:''' 100 times (if you're lucky),
*** '''Ultra Blood Titan:''' 225 times
*** '''Ultra Alteon:''' 125 times
*** '''Mutated Void Dragon:''' 150 times
*** '''Undead Raxgore:''' ''250 times''
*** '''Binky:''' [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking 1 time]]. [[SarcasmMode Have fun!]]
** Getting the Necrotic Sword of Doom can be a pain as well, as it requires plenty of quest completions and most of these quests are plenty difficult, and some even require certain conditions to be met like having Rank 10 Evil and the Necromancer class. And to top it off, the only way to speed up the quests requires Sepulchure's [=DoomKnight=] Armor from one of the above {{That One Sidequest}}s in your inventory.
** After December 2015 and February 2017, we have the Archfiend Doomlord and Void Highlord, the most difficult armor and class in the entire game respectively. It helps that these two avoid [[AndYourRewardIsClothes being solely cosmetic]] (the entire AFDL set gives 15% damage boost and 25% boost to each rep, gold, exp, and class points while VHL can solo most if not all of [[ThatOneBoss the most difficult bosses in the game]])
** As of October 2021, the Chaos Avenger class is considered one of the toughest classes to obtain, as most of the item requirements for the quest to unlock it are hard to collect, one even requiring twenty items to merge into it that can only be obtained five at a time per week from Champion Drakath, an incredibly tough [[OptionalBoss Optional]] {{Superboss}} who's basically both versions of Drakath rolled into one with several abilities and his own ThatOneAttack for when his HP is running low. Two other items also require six Chaos Lord armors each, and since Chaos Lord armors are fairly tough to obtain and can be found on the Chaos Lords (most of which, as mentioned before, are fairly tough as well and have their own ThatOneAttack for some), you'd most certainly have a lot of work cut out for you doing all that. On the bright side? Once you finally unlock it, you'll find CA to be one of the most powerful classes in the game alongside the aforementioned Void Highlord above, and the reward is worth all that insane hard work you have to go through.
** The questline for the Archmage class is considered long and grueling, and for good reason. The quests start at Level 60, and most of the required reagents for them have ludicrously-low drop rates, even going so far as to be 1% for some (you could buy some of them as an alternative, but be warned that those could cost several reagants and hundreds of gold). The required level to finish all of the mandatory quests for the class is 80, and some of them even require rannk 10 of certain faction reputations to take (Chaos, Spellcrafting, Embersea, Etherstorm and Loremaster, to be exact). The final quest involves killing Prismatas 250 times, which is easier said than done for a low number of players fighting them as they have huge amounts of HP, deal good damage, and can charge up for even more powerful attacks that would be enough to result in total kills of parties of very few players. The good news is that once you finally obtain the class, it proves to be an incredibly great farming class, making it another one worth all that difficult farming similar to the likes of Void Highlord, Legion Revenant, Dragon of Time, and Chaos Avenger. If you wish after obtaining the class, you can take an optional bonus quest to unlock color-custom versions of the Archmage set, which, according to Warlic, will also be incredibly long and difficult and rightfully so, especially when it requires you to be Level 100 to take it and, for two of the requirements for its completion, you have to collect two items from some of the Forge enhancement quests that require the completion of some other difficult ones and kill the already incredibly tough Prismatas 2500 times.
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: For most of the latter releases of 2015 and the early releases of 2016, players were upset about the questlines released at the time requiring them to keep certain misc. items in order to proceed, which they feel is a waste of inventory space. These questlines include the ones in Luna Cove, the Golden Shipwreck, the Starsinc Fortress, and Dage the Good's Bright Fortress.
* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: Drakath is almost forgotten about after the events of 13 Lords of Chaos, when there could have been tons of potential for character development. What especially makes this stick out is that [[spoiler:he was literally stripped of most of his powers by the Queen of Monsters after her summoning, and he could've worked alongside the hero in an effort to regain his powers and take his revenge against the Queen.]] Instead, [[spoiler:he hangs out in Crownsreach, serving as nothing more than a representative for the Chaos faction. His dialogue there even implies that he really wants vengeance against the Queen, but none of that ever happens during the Queen of Monsters saga.]]
** There's also the villains of the Throne of Darkness saga. The ending implies that [[spoiler:the hero was meant to recruit them in order to deal with a now-regenerating Sepulchure, only further proven by Artix and Gravelyn’s dialogue after finishing the saga. However, even when Sepulchure does come into play during the Queen of Monsters saga, they're nowhere to be seen, and they aren’t even mentioned.]]
* UglyCute:
** [[spoiler:The Dark Makai in Nulgath's secret area. You can even get one as a battle pet from Nulgath by completing his Juggernaut Items quest and choosing it before turning in the quest!]]
* UnexpectedCharacter: [[spoiler:King Alteon]] makes a surprise appearance in one of the MultipleEndings of Adam's wedding event alongside the Creator/ArtixEntertainment staff, having been brought from five years prior to said event to bare witness to his and Michelle's legendary wedding and pronounce them both "Game Maker and Wife" for their respective preacher.
* UnintentionallyUnsympathetic: Eremon suffers this [[spoiler:betraying the Hero and Madra to side with Kolyaban and starting a war and while his sacrifice to protect Kolyaban and final moments are meant to be sympathetic, its hard to feel sympathety for what he did.]]
* TheUntwist:
** Artix [[spoiler: as the Champion of Darkness is way too obvious with the foreshadowing with him not casting a light spell.]]
** Queen Lynaria (Alteon's wife) being [[spoiler:Sepulchure's lover. Those familiar with VideoGame/DragonFable would have heard Sepulchure {{Name Drop}}ping her after he gets defeated by Mysterious Stranger.]]
** There is also the matter of the last two chaos lords [[spoiler:with King Alteon as the 12th lord of chaos and the Hero as the 13th Lord and considering Drakath says that he saves both King Alteon and the Hero for last. Which can bring a hint after the former become the 12th lord. Depending on how long ago the player had watched that cutscene, it may end up being TheTwist instead.]]
* ViewerGenderConfusion: Ledgermayne's body appears to be very feminine in appearance. Guess what? That thing has absolutely no gender whatsoever.
* {{Wangst}}: Some people see Wolfwing's motivation for becoming a Chaos Lord (turning people into Werepyres so he wouldn't be alone all the time) to be so much wangst.
