Ryback Allen Reeves (born Ryan Allen Reeves; November 10, 1981) is an American {{professional wrestl|ing}}er, best known for his tenure with Wrestling/{{WWE}} under the ring name Ryback. One of the eight finalists on ''Wrestling/WWEToughEnough 4'', Reeves later signed a developmental contract with WWE and wrestled in its developmental territories Deep South Wrestling (DSW), Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW), and Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). He participated in the first season of ''Wrestling/{{WWE NXT}}'' in early 2010 under the ring name Skip Sheffield, and joined the main WWE roster later that year as part of Wrestling/TheNexus before being sidelined due to injury. Following his return as Ryback, he was portrayed as an unstoppable powerhouse who would [[SquashMatch squash]] two people at a time, and headlined several pay-per-view events for WWE – some of which were for the WWE Championship – and became a one-time Intercontinental Champion before departing from the company in 2016. He wrestled on the independent circuit from 2016 to 2018.

!! "WAKE UP! IT'S TROPE-ING TIME!":
* AlliterativeName: As "Skip Sheffield".
* AntiHero: Type IV or V as a face. Whether a face or a heel, all he really cares about is beating people up. The only reason he was a face in the first place is because the people he beat up happened to be heels or nameless jobbers.
* BaldOfEvil: As a heel, as he's bald.
* BarbaricBully: Ryback's underwent a "bully" gimmick for a while, which had him terrorize random enhancement talent backstage.
* BeatThemAtTheirOwnGame: A main event match featuring Wrestling/JohnCena and Wrestling/CMPunk that ended with a few ''Wrestling/{{WWE NXT}}'' wrestlers making their invading debut to the main roster. Are we talking about the 2010 debut of Wrestling/TheNexus (which Skip Sheffield was a part of) or the [[Wrestling/TheShield Ambrose/Rollins/Reigns]] attack on Ryback at ''Wrestling/SurvivorSeries'' 2012?
* BerserkButton: BOWLIES, during his alliance with Wrestling/PaulHeyman. He seemed to flip-flop between being a BOWLIE and hating BOWLIES for the rest of his heel run.
* BigBeautifulMan: Referred to as such by Paul Heyman, though it's actually an aversion.
* BigEater: During ''Wrestling/WWEToughEnough'', Wrestling/AlSnow gave an [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HY3g4CGdM0&feature=g-vrec interview]] about Ryback constantly sneaking large amounts of food around and getting in trouble for with Bill [=DeMott=] for it. Years later, [[Wrestling/BryanDanielson Daniel Bryan]] gave an interview also describing Ryback's eating habits. It pretty much became his character, used to describe him literally as well as metaphorically in terms of in-ring competition.
* TheBigGuy: As a face, as he's a strong, large guy.
* BloodKnight: His face gimmick was to pretty much to beat a guy (or pair of guys) down, then promptly ask for more guys to beat down. Cena probably put it best on the October 15, 2012 episode of ''Raw'' when he said that Ryback was probably the ''only'' man in the company who didn't give a damn about the WWE Championship; he just wanted to beat down the WWE Champion Wrestling/CMPunk. This comment ''may'' had come back to bite Cena in the ass in April 2013 when Ryback turned heel and basically said the same... just that Cena was by then the WWE Champion.
* TheBrute: As a heel, as he's a strong, large guy. Although he actually started referring to himself as "TheBigGuy" after his heel turn.
* CallingYourAttacks: He signals when he's about to perform his FinishingMove, called the Shell Shock; by loudly yelling to the crowd that he'll [[Franchise/MortalKombat "FINISH IT!!"]] (started as "FINISH HIM!", presumably changed due to being the exact quote from the aforementioned ''Mortal Kombat'').
* CanonDiscontinuity: He was in no way shape or form part of Wrestling/TheNexus. What they acknowledge is that he was part of NXT season 1, before getting hurt.
* CatchPhrase:
** Most notably, "'''FEED! ME! MORE!!'''". Other catchphrases include; "'''WAKE UP'''" when entering the ring, "'''I HIT! ''HARD!'''''" while he assaults his opponent, and "'''FINISH! IT!!'''" before Shell Shocking the opponent.
** "'''RYBACK! RUUUUUULES!'''"
** "Everybody loves the big guy!"
** "IT'S FEEDING TIME!"
** After the match is over and Ryback has won (usually decisively): "'''DONE!'''"
** As Skip Sheffield, he had "Yup yup yup, what it do!"
* CharlesAtlasSuperpower: Established in kayfabe, he lifted up two jobbers at the same time, but the jobbers were small and scrawny. He also tossed one of Miz's stage couches out of the ring after interrupting one of his shows, but seeing how it barely made an impact as it landed, it was very lightweight. By contrast, he showed considerable difficulty getting the 360-pound Tensai up on his shoulders for the Shell Shocked, a slightly modified Samoan Drop, whereas his predecessor Wrestling/{{Goldberg}} managed to hoist up Big Show vertically for a Jackhammer (though Tensai had dead weighted Ryback on the move, while Goldberg had Show's full cooperation). He has, however, managed to get the even ''larger'' Wrestling/MarkHenry up onto his shoulders for the move, with some help from Henry. Then he does it to Khali and does his signature walk around twice.
* TheChewToy: A minor example; the poor guy just doesn't seem to have much luck. He already [[GameBreakingInjury had a hard enough time getting to the main roster.]] And, he'd probably have the WWE Championship already if other people didn't keep sticking their noses into his business.
* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: If his Website/{{Twitter}} rants and behavior in the ring as of 2014 are any indication.
* {{Cowboy}}: As Skip Sheffield.
* CrowdChant: When Ryback prepares for the Meat Hook Clothesline, he backs into a corner and thrusts his right shoulder forward three times, pauses, and then repeats until the opponent gets up. With each thrust, the crowd chants in rhythm: "FEED! ME! MORE! FEED! ME! MORE!" He even gets this reaction as a heel.
* DemotedToExtra: Came within seconds of winning the WWE Championship. ''Several times.'' Had since slipped further and further down the card and had been in an afterthought tag team with Wrestling/CurtisAxel for around a year.
* {{Determinator}}:
** Fought for over a year to come back from a broken leg (see GameBreakingInjury below).
** Gave John Cena a run for his money in their Last Man Standing match at ''Extreme Rules 2013''. An Attitude Adjustment through a table? Speared through the barricade? Splashed through a table by Cena and blasted in the face with a fire extinguisher? He ''kept.'' ''coming.'' ''back.''
* DiscontinuityNod: A close look at his ring gear reveals a subtle (if not accidental) one, in that he wears arm bands on his biceps with a huge "R", right where the Nexus armband(s) would be, and his time in the Nexus as Skip Sheffield wasn't acknowledged during his time as Ryback.
* DumbMuscle: As Skip Sheffield.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: They actually tried having him cut a promo once back toward the beginning of his undefeated streak. Either his mic skills needed work or they decided that TheQuietOne was the way to go, because afterwards he only said a few words at a time, and it wasn't until he became seasoned in the main roster that he started to speak eloquently again.
* EveryYearTheyFizzleOut: More like "Every ''Month''" through one year: He was made to look like a beast on TV during his initial face run but went a full year of failing to win ''every'' match he had on pay-per-view, bookended by victories over Curt Hawkins and Tyler Reks at ''Money in the Bank 2012'' and Chris Jericho at ''Money in the Bank 2013''.
* {{Expy}}:
** His first gimmick in OVW, and the first time he used the Ryback monicker in his career, was based on ''Film/TheTerminator''. He even started using the F-5, a move who was used a few years before by another ''Terminator'' wrestler, Wrestling/{{TNA}}'s Trytan.
** His large, imposing figure, shiny dome, and tendency to obliterate opponents in short periods of time recall Wrestling/{{Goldberg}}, which the crowd invariably {{lampshade|Hanging}}s with the former’s chant during the latter’s matches. In interviews, Ryback sees the comparison as an insult (because he considers himself to be a more passionate and harder worker than Goldberg) while Goldberg treats it as a compliment (as fans are still chanting his name years after his retirement). Ryback even, perhaps foolishly, utilized a Spear/Tackle maneuver at the TLC pay-per-view in 2012. You get one guess as to how the fans responded. But by February 2016, [[http://whatculture.com/wwe/ryback-debuts-his-new-goldberg-look.php he fully embraced the comparaison and started wearing attire based on him]].
** He has also been compared to the Wrestling/UltimateWarrior because of his... ‘’interesting’’promos. His voice to some is even similar to Warrior's.
* EyeScream: For a while, he came down to the ring with an eye that was bright red. This came from an accident involving a kettle bell if Daniel Bryan is to be believed.
* ExactWords: Ryback said he wouldn't let John Cena get up in their Last Man Standing match. Cue the end of the match, where Ryback drove Cena through the PPV set onto a ''metal brace.'' The match was called a No Contest, but whereas Ryback was standing, albeit helped out by officials, Cena was carted off on a stretcher in a neck brace.
* EyeTake: Ryback has huge eyes that don't blink very often at all. Makes him look rather intimidating.
* FaceHeelTurn:
** When he Shell Shocked John Cena on the April 8, 2013 episode of ''Raw''. The fans (for better or worse) cheered it like he finally got his hands on the top heel, which made it really difficult to tell what the intended reaction was. A week later it became more clear when they had him act like a complete coward when face to face with Cena.
** Did it again on the February 22 episode of ''Raw'', during a tag team match against Wrestling/TheWyattFamily, Ryback walked out on his tag team partners [[Wrestling/TheBigShow Big Show]] and Wrestling/{{Kane}}, and later proclaimed that he was tired of being in tag team matches
* ForcedMeme: At the beginning of his Ryback gimmick, his "Feed Me More!" catchphrase. The guy ''had to lead his own chants''. Fortunately for him, it caught on pretty quickly and he became very much over with the WWE universe, so you'll hear the crowd say it LONG before he does in the match. An attempt to do the same as a heel with "Ryback Rules!" didn't work out as well, however.
* GameBreakingInjury: The poor guy broke his leg right as the Nexus angle took off in 2010, keeping him out of the ring for well over a year. Although, given what his previous character was and how the Nexus angle turned out for everyone involved ''not'' named [[Wrestling/BryanDanielson Daniel Bryan]]... this may have been to his benefit.
* GreenEyedMonster: Possibly. One of the reasons he gave for turning heel was that he was sick of living in John Cena's shadow.
* GroinAttack: A blatant nut-shot from referee Wrestling/BradMaddox kept him from winning the WWE Championship. [[RoaringRampageOfRevenge Maddox would pay dearly for his actions soon after.]]
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Went through a heel turn and a face turn on a single episode of ''Raw'' (November 10, 2014). First, crushing Wrestling/JohnCena with a Spinebuster when confronted by both Cena and Wrestling/TheAuthority to join their respective Survivor Series teams (Ryback claimed that he's "Not afraid of The Authority, but [he] doesn't see John Cena's name at the bottom of The Big Guy's paycheck." Cue Spinebuster). The implication was that he had turned heel and would fight for The Authority at Survivor Series, but throughout the night, each of the other members of the team continued to rub him the wrong way with repeated visits to his locker room, and it finally boiled over at the end of the night, when Kane interfered in Ryback's match against John Cena, despite being told by The Big Guy to stay out of his way. [[MistreatmentInducedBetrayal Ryback cleaned house and destroyed nearly every member of The Authority.]] The next week, Ryback essentially considered himself neutral until Cena delivered an [[ArmorPiercingQuestion armor-piercing statement]] that the guy who constantly proclaims "Feed! Me! More!" suddenly doesn't want to eat at the "big table." That moved Ryback to make up his mind and cement his HeelFaceTurn by joining Team Cena and clearing Team Authority out of the ring to close ''Raw''.
* HellIsThatNoise:
** For a lot of his foes, the moment his audio cue hits. '''"FEED! ME! MORE!"'''
** For a brief period of time around ''Extreme Rules 2013'', he's had begun to drive an ambulance out, so the first thing his opponents usually heard was the siren.
* HulkSpeak: Initially, his gimmick consisted of a lot of this, but as he's spent more time in the WWE, he's become slowly more articulate.
* InformedAttribute: He's known as "The Big Guy", and he is a very large man at 6' 2'' and 290 pounds. However, quite a few wrestlers are just as or even taller than he is, so he isn't as imposing over them as his nickname implies. The only thing that separates him from them is that he has a bodybuilder build while the others tend to be not as toned.
* InvincibleHero: While he's lost his fair share of matches as a face, very few, if any of them, have been clean losses. His record as a heel was pretty even.
* {{Jerkass}}: Big time with his heel turn.
* JerkWithAHeartOfGold: His Rybaxel run had shades of this with him being good friends with Wrestling/CurtisAxel and his 2014 return is this, especially if you look at his [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vdk1S3ySgLk backstage promo]] where he thanks his fans for supporting him even when he failed before. The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpBYZetmb5k Rybaxel split]] was wonderfully sincere. They're great friends but they lost... often, and after their respective returns they agreed to stop teaming, at least until they had both re-established themselves as singles competitors.
* {{Leitmotif}}: If Ryback's [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOSitBxpTWg YouTube channel]] is to be believed, he is accompanied by his WWE theme music wherever he goes, be it the gym, a drive-through or the hardware store.
* LightningBruiser: Dude's so big, it's usually quite the surprise when he proves how agile he actually is and manages to pull out a move someone of his size wouldn't normally do, like a high knee in the corner or a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M50cC7ySJ5E Corkscrew Plancha.]]
* MeaningfulRename: Getting his first name changed to Ryback in RealLife. He'd spent years wrestling as Ryback even before his mainline WWE run, and it was a shorthand for his nickname and real name "The Silverback" Ryan Reeves from all the way back to his initial Tough Enough season 4 appearances at the latest, so it makes sense he'd want to protect the name from WWE's ownership.
* MilkingTheGiantCow: An integral part of his entrance.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: The explanation behind his FaceHeelTurn in April 2013 was that he was there to help Cena every time Cena was attacked by the Shield, but Cena didn't return the favor when Ryback was attacked by them.
* MusclesAreMeaningful: Used in kayfabe, but averted in real life, in spite of his defined physique he's got problems lifting up guys like [[Wrestling/MattBloom Tensai]] (though it should be noted that Tensai seemingly dead weighted him on one occasion, and he succeeded in an attempt before and after this incident). He'd also lost an arm wrestling match against the much smaller Daniel Puder back in Tough Enough 4.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: He did this to rogue ref Brad Maddox, after destroying him in the match they had, he then outright annihilated him then threw him into a waiting ambulance. Keep in mind that this ''wasn't'' an ambulance match. [[ForegoneConclusion The ambulance just showed up because they knew what was going to happen.]]
* OhCrap: For a lot of his foes, the moment his audio cue hits. '''"FEED! ME! MORE!"'''
* OnlyFriend: The only person he follows on Website/{{Twitter}} is his former tag team partner Curtis Axel.
* PermaStubble: Has a five o'clock shadow as Ryback, which fits like a glove with him being a Type IV/V AntiHero under that gimmick. In contrast, he was clean-shaven as Skip Sheffield.
* PetTheDog: Comforted Vickie Guerrero after she was fired.
* {{Portmanteau}}:
** Ryback is actually the combination of his first name Ryan and his original nickname, "Silverback".
** Taken to new levels with his continued partnership with Wrestling/CurtisAxel, which the announcers were forced to call (with a straight face) "Rybaxel."
* PromotedFanboy: Has been a wrestling fan since he was five. Also invoked this himself when he responded on a radio show to the Goldberg chants he draws: he says the difference is that Goldberg was in it for the money, but he's in wrestling because he loves it.
* PunchPunchPunchUhOh: A not uncommon spot in his matches is for his opponent to try and kick him, only for him to catch their foot leaving them open for one of his signature lariats.
* PunctuatedForEmphasis: Initially, his gimmick consisted of a lot of this, but as he's spent more time in the WWE, he's become slowly more articulate.
* TheQuietOne:
** Rarely ever talks, and when he does it short and to the point.
** With his heel turn, that aspect of his character has been scaled back. He began to cut a lot more promos, and they were pretty standard length.
* RedBaron:
** WWE tried to give him [[BigEater "The Big Hungry"]] as one, but it didn't stick, and they just stopped calling him that. Wrestling/JerryLawler occasionally refers to him as the "Sin City Cyborg" (which is a ShoutOut to the ''Franchise/{{Terminator}}''-inspired gimmick he had in FCW), but that doesn't seem to be sticking either.
** Mainly after his heel turn, he's been called the "Human Wrecking Ball."
** And as Skip Sheffield, he was [[DumbMuscle "The Cornfed Meathead."]]
** His mini-tron (the screen underneath the large "Titantron" screen) features a graphic of a bear trap, which has given him a smattering of nicknames along the lines of "The Walking Bear Trap."
** He ended up giving himself the nickname "The Big Guy" and it ended up sticking.
* RedemptionPromotion: Inverted and played with. As a face, Ryback was practically unstoppable, usually requiring massive amounts of interference or a well-organized group like The Shield to be defeated. After his heel turn, his opponents were generally allowed to get much more offense in against him, although he still usually wins, except for title matches. This became more extreme when he ended up getting injured by ''Wrestling/JustinGabriel'' of all people, who is essentially a jobber, then a week later ended up having to quit a match against Wrestling/TheMiz because of it. On a meta level, Ryback gets lukewarm reactions at best as a heel (despite looking the part), but tends to be pretty over as a face.
* SchoolyardBullyAllGrownUp: Played '''Straight''' with a capital "S" after he settled into his {{Heel}} role.
* ShoutOut:
** His signal that he's about to perform his FinishingMove, called the Shell Shock; a loud yell to the crowd of [[Franchise/MortalKombat "FINISH IT!!"]] (started as "FINISH HIM!", presumably changed due to being the exact quote from the aforementioned Mortal Kombat).
** His heel CatchPhrase "Ryback Rules!" is a ShoutOut to ''Film/BillyMadison,'' as evidenced by his tweet:
--->'''Ryback:''' Just had a meeting with the O'Doyle family paperwork signed and #Done! It is official now so you can all stop whining. #[=RybackRules=]
* SmugSmiler[=/=]SlasherSmile: Since turning heel, Ryback had perfected a grin that's about halfway between these two.
* SpellMyNameWithAThe: Several wrestlers, especially Daniel Bryan, have referred to him as "The Ryback" during interviews or other related publicity. In mid-2013, John Cena started calling him "The Ryback" on ''Raw''.
* SquashMatch: What his matches were from his (re)debut as Ryback until his streak was broken by CM Punk at ''Hell in a Cell 2012''. Afterwards, every match of his except non-singles matches or title matches still were this until turning heel in April 2013.
* StrawHypocrite: His mid-2013 character was a flagrantly obvious bully who claims not to like bullies.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Rybaxel had become this. When his push fizzled out, Ryback joined up with Wrestling/CurtisAxel in a heel tag team as the two were drifting in the lower card.
* TookALevelInBadass: More like '''SEVERAL''' levels. The whole repackaging from Skip Sheffield to Ryback definitely qualifies, as clearly someone in WWE realized that "Yep yep yep what it do" was so hopelessly dumb that the only way they could make him sound intelligent was to turn him into a grunting monster. And it worked - although recent segments indicate that he's probably more articulate than WWE allowed him to show in the early goings.
* TrashTheSet: On the September 17, 2012 episode of ''Raw'', he interrupted Wrestling/TheMiz's [[TalkShowWithFists "Miz TV" talk show segment]] and did this. Part of his set-trashing included lifting a couch up over his head and throwing it out of the ring.
* VillainousBreakdown: Had been going through one, based on his Website/{{Twitter}} rants and behavior on ''Main Event''.
* VillainTeamUp: Even after (and perhaps because) Paul Heyman essentially abandoned both of them, he and Wrestling/CurtisAxel had continued to team together.
* WarriorPoet: Has shown brief shades of this:
-->'''Ryback:''' Revenge is a confession of pain. I am not hurt; I am hungry. And when I feast again, it will be on CM Punk.
* WhatTheHellHero: Gave one to Cena, asking him why he wasn't there when Wrestling/TheShield kept ambushing him.
* WrestlingMonster: Described as such by rogue referee Brad Maddox.
* WritingAroundTrademarks: Very early on, Ryback would yell FINISH HIM! before hitting the Shell Shock. WordOfGod says WWE Legal encouraged the change to FINISH IT! to avoid complications with ''Franchise/MortalKombat''.
