Here is a partial list of [[TheWoobie Woobies]] in WebOriginal series.
[[index]]
!!Subpages:
* ''Woobie/SCPFoundation''
* ''Woobie/UltraFastPony''
* ''Woobie/WeAreAllPokemonTrainers''
[[/index]]

----
* The four main girls from ''WebVideo/TheSecretLifeOfAMermaid'' switch these places often
* The title character of ''Literature/SailorNothing''. Let's face it, when one's happiest moment in her life is realizing she no longer is tempted to ''slit open her wrists with her dad's razor'' when she wakes up, she needs a hug. ''[[ThereAreNoTherapists Badly]]''.
* A lot of abused/outcast characters tend to get this treatment among the users of ''Roleplay/SurvivalOfTheFittest''. For example, in v3 Matthew Wittany tends to receive considerable sympathy from a number of SOTF handlers, primarily because he's just such a complete {{Buttmonkey}} and treated harshly by so many of his classmates when he's mostly just looking for friends on the island. Nanami Nishida from v1, despite being insufferably annoying and nearly killing fan-favourite Madelaine Shirohara, got looked upon this way (if [[spoiler:posthumously]]) in retrospect and after people realized just how hard she had it living in Madelaine's shadow. Especially when [[spoiler:killing her]] caused a HeroicBSOD for Madelaine.
* Marilyn Williams from the Program spin-off of the same work. Her first thread involved her being beaten up for accidentally walking into somebody, to the point of being made to bleed and having her hair ripped out. This before the 'game' even started.
* ''Roleplay/{{AJCO}}'' has a fair few, but the sympathetic demon Finn stands out above all the others. He was cursed by an absolute jerk when he was alive and was then killed, became a demon even though he's an extremely nice guy and isn't cut out for it, was summoned by accident just after one of his former friends died, everyone he knew when he was alive now hates him and even the normally amiable angel ''Kaja'' hates him. The only people who don't seem to instantly mistrust him are Curls and Egg.
* ''WebVideo/DoctorHorriblesSingAlongBlog'':
** Dr. Horrible. He needs lots and lots of hugs. Does he ever! Poor guy, it's almost made worse because, [[spoiler:even though he's nominally a villain, none of it was really his fault. He has idealistic motives (at least did in the beginning), doesn't want to kill people, only tries to kill his arrogant jerk of a nemesis when he has to kill someone and everyone hates him.]] And how about the look on his face when he sings [[spoiler: "and I won't feel...a thing." at the end of the final number?]] Hugs all around. And possibly tissues.
** Penny
** Moist
* David in ''WebVideo/EconomyWatch'' is an example of this, especially when he goes on to talk about his problems in the Season 2 finale.
* All characters in ''Roleplay/RubyQuest'', more or less, but Tom is a special case even among them. Poor kitty's the sweetest, kindest, the most innocent character in the game by far, and yet he has so far had [[spoiler:got himself betrayed and murdered by the woman he thought he loved, forgot about everything until now, had an arsenic poisoning, lost his eye, was rejected by his crush, and finally discovered things of his past he wouldn't have wanted to, including that this new companion of his was responsible of his messy death a while back]]. Thankfully, he has gained liberal amounts of hug therapy, and [[AngstWhatAngst all this doesn't seem to bother him as much as it should.]]
* ''Literature/TalesOfMU'':
** Two, an emancipated {{golem}} who, despite her ostensible free will, enters the story with an incredibly flat affect - a sign of severe emotional damage. The cause of this eventually becomes clear; most golems are freed with a full if inexperienced personality but Two was given only one fundamental drive - she wants to do what she is told, whether she likes it or not. This makes her the victim of a horrifying array of abuses, the full extent of which is only implied. Since falling in with some of the kindlier inhabitants of Harlowe Hall, she has gotten better. Still desperately needs hugs, though. About a week of in-story time in, we got to see [[http://www.talesofmu.com/story/other/bonus-story-diary-of-a-golem-girl Two's diary]]. She needs so many hugs.
** Mackenzie has this mixed with ButtMonkey and (maybe, maybe not) a bit of CosmicPlaything. Her entire third week in the first year comes to mind, but her life seems to be a [[DeusAngstMachina neverending cavalcade of suck]].
* From the Platform/SCPFoundation, [[http://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-231 SCP-231-7]]. Saying anything more here would just ruin how bad it is for the girl. Read it yourself, and ''understand'' what the true meaning of TheWoobie ''really'' is.
** Just to make you feel more horrible: Look at her description. She may be a prepubscent girl. And to make it even ''more'' horribly depressing: If the poor girl ever catches a break, it will probably cause TheEndOfTheWorldAsWeKnowIt.
** Suffice to say, if there is a sentient SCP that isn't an AxCrazy psychopath, they're likely a Woobie. And [[JerkassWoobie there's some overlap between the two categories, too]].
* Charlie from ''Series/IAmNotInfected'' sealed his status as a woobie when he spent almost an entire episode with the ConfessionCam crying.
* Creator/FeliciaDay's character, Codex, in ''WebVideo/TheGuild''.
* Severin from ''[[http://www.fictionpress.com/s/2718227/1/Fragile Fragile]]''. When he [[spoiler:confesses his love to Page, Page - who is at this point quite homophobic - rejects him and accuses his love of being lust, even though Severin is later found out to be asexual}}]]. And then of course there's [[spoiler:his incurable insanity and later admittance to an insane asylum]]. All the while, he has some kind of undiagnosed mental disorder that impairs the way he views the world and reacts to it (Page says that he spent most of the time he knew Severin feeling sorry that he could never be normal). To make the situation much worse, it is revealed in the sequel ''Perpetual Change'' [[spoiler:that he was sexually abused regularly by his sadistic aunt starting when he was a child, which led him to develop masochistic tendencies and emotionally scarred him, possibly causing his later psychological problems. It's also heavily suggested that it was an episode of abuse from her that caused his mental breakdown. His psychologist, Dr. Mangum, is also revealed to have given him medication that she knew would only increase his problems.]] As you can see, a lot of bad things happen to this guy. It's rather difficult not to be sorry for him in some way.
* WebVideo/{{Retsupurae}}'s treatment of [[LetsPlay LetsPlay/BillyMC]]
* ''Website/GaiaOnline'':
** Gino Gambino is the king of this trope on the website, subjected to neglect and [[WeirdnessMagnet shenanigans]] by his father for years, yet unwilling to so much as protest this treatment.
** SecondPrize goes to Louie Von Helson and his [[IHateYouVampireDad love-hate relationship with his father]], though he loses points for that whole Moira fiasco.
** Third place is a tie between Timmy, openly abused and placed in dangerous situations by his JerkAss legal guardian who is also skimming his paychecks, and the Sentinel, a demigoddess who accidentally cursed herself [[SealedEvilInACan into a box]] to be tortured by demons for a thousand years, was released at the height of insanity by the spirit of Halloween [[ForTheEvulz for lulz]], and was finally stripped of all her powers and [[HumanityEnsues reduced to a mere mortal]].
** And last but probably not least, we have Liam, who has implied in several places that he's been completely without family since the age of ''five''.
** The Gimpi item. It's evolutions before the Star Academy forms scream "Woobie".
** ''Gaia'' also had an entire Christmas event based on this trope a few years back. The users had to take care of orphans, and get them cleaned up for adoption. The [[OrphanageOfFear horrible living conditions]] that the orphans mentioned slid somewhere between HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood and VideoGameCaringPotential. Many users didn't want to part with the orphans once all their conditions were met and the event was over, to the point where they were eventually made into equippable items for your avatar.
* On Platform/DeviantArt ++ [[http://le0patra.deviantart.com/art/Eyeless-and-Starving-141195101 That]] [[http://le0patra.deviantart.com/art/Come-Over-Here-and-Help-Me-138442435 poor,]] [[http://le0patra.deviantart.com/art/Tail-cut-off-132221755 poor]] [[http://le0patra.deviantart.com/art/A-Slave-lion-Being-WHIPPED-132221539 lion]] from Leopatra.
* ''Literature/ShadowOfTheTemplar'': Jeremy Archer hides it well and therefore it's only hinted at throughout the series, but [[http://community.livejournal.com/teamtemplar/8258.html WordOfGod]] says he fits this trope quite well. And how!
* The Smith emoticon from the Website/SomethingAwful forums. Don't tell us you don't feel any sympathy looking into that piteous monochrome face.
* ''Literature/{{Worm}}'': Taylor is an [[TheFettered idealist]] in a world which practically breaks the SlidingScaleOfIdealismVersusCynicism and damn does [[NotEvilJustMisunderstood she]] suffer for it. Any time that things might be starting to look up, [[FromBadToWorse they don't]].
** Taylor's Woobie status is at least mitigated by her [[{{Determinator}} fortitude]] and numerous [[SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome crowning moments of awesome]]; Canary and Amy Dallon are purer examples of this trope.
* Starkid gives us Duder in ''WebVideo/LittleWhiteLie''. A fairly decent, honest guy is dragged into lie after lie by his pushy, {{Jerkass}} sister, then he gets awkwardly shot down by... Lauren Lopez's character, Tanya.
* 80% of the protagonists of various [[Franchise/TheSlenderManMythos Slendyblogs]] tend to come across as Woobie-ish. Most notable are probably Noah from WebVideo/TribeTwelve, [[DamselInDistress 'Damsel']] from WebVideo/EverymanHYBRID and [[spoiler:the young Vincent from the Bag in the same ARG]].
* ''WebVideo/MarbleHornets'':
** Jay only wanted to look through the tapes from his old college friend's scrapped student film to try and find out why the project was abandoned in the middle of production. The result? Well, being stalked by a [[Franchise/TheSlenderManMythos tall, faceless abomination]] turns out to be the ''least'' of his problems when he starts losing huge chunks of his memory and people are disappearing around him. By the time he finally meets up again with Tim, he's been living in a hell of paranoia and fear by himself for nearly ''four years''.
%%** Tim. [[TraumaCongaLine Poor,]] [[SplitPersonalityTakeover poor]] [[BreakTheCutie Tim]].
** Anyone who comes into contact with the Operator is almost guaranteed to warrant this status.
* Not quite sure if this goes here but the "forever alone" meme definitely fits this trope.
* Nella, WebVideo/TheNostalgiaChick's {{sidekick}}. Usually a ButtMonkey but every so often, you see that having a best friend who ignores her feelings and treats her like shit is really hurting her.
** Her Robot is just as bad: He was basically built to wash dishes, make coffee and be sex slave, but he has the soul of a poet and is programmed against suicide. You really feel bad for the guy when he's willing to join Dark Nella knowing she will kill him just so he can finally die after being ignored by everyone else. His speech in part 2 of "The Disaster Films of Roland Emmerich" really clinches it.
* Waluigi from ''WebVideo/ThereWillBeBrawl''. Being a ManChild who Wario keeps locked in a pen would be bad enough, but Wario [[spoiler:using him to deliver a bomb to kill Red, and Waluigi ''never realising what he is doing is wrong'']] is what really clinches it.
* WebVideo/{{Fred}}: Funny or not, sometimes one has to feel bad for that poor kid.
%%* [[http://failbook.failblog.org/2011/02/15/funny-facebook-fails-sometimes/ This]] poor guy. Daaawww.
* The titular character, Lenny Penguin, in ''WebOriginal/LittleLennyPenguinAndTheGreatRedFlood''. He was, until later in the beginning, damned to spend the rest of eternity alone in endless blankness even though he would eventually get out anyway and was ''destined'' to do so in the first place. And ''then'', out of pure curiosity, he enters a Time Crack and is sent to an otherwise terrifying DarkWorld full of equally terrifying {{Eldritch Abomination}}s. Talk about unfair...
* ''WebOriginal/ProtectorsOfThePlotContinuum'':
** Ithalond. He's the Ithalond from ''Celebrian'', and even after being recruited to the PPC he is a HenpeckedHusband. And then there was the [[Literature/{{Discworld}}Dibbler meat pie]] incident...
** Hul Choka. A [[Literature/NewJediOrder Yuuzhan Vong]] who eventually gets assimilated by the [[Franchise/StarTrek Borg]]. And he is rescued, but the ''Series/StarTrekVoyager'' episode "Imperfection" makes it abundantly clear that he will always be a cyborg.
* ''WebVideo/SuperMarioLogan'':
** Mario qualifies to an extent, presumed to existing just to be tormented. [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption His plans never go the way he wants them to be.]] His roommates Shrek and Black Yoshi are inconsiderate of him, and come 2016, he is forced to babysit a handicapped child named Jeffy, who annoys him 24/7 with his stupidity, cat piano and pooping in his pants. The latter takes a toll on Mario and slowly turns him into more of a {{Jerkass}}, specifically trying to get rid of Jeffy. In "Jeffy's Bad Word!" some fans felt sorry for him due to the Mario torture porn and worldwide humiliation he suffered from the video.
** Chef Pee Pee works for Bowser, who continuously treats him like a slave, and his son Bowser Junior annoys him just as bad, even more in some cases. Pee Pee has sworn to kill the latter multiple times, but he has either never did it or actually attempted it to no avail. It's not hard to feel sorry for Chef Pee Pee sometimes, especially when he gets tortured. He even sang a song about his misery in "Chef Pee Pee Quits! Part 6". In "Chef Pee Pee's Birthday Surprise!", Junior and his friends, Joseph, Cody and Toad, feeling sorry for him, throw a surprise birthday party, and Chef Pee Pee goes through an emotional rollercoaster on his party. A heartwarming moment indeed.
** Junior himself can be this sometimes, specifically in the ''Bowser Junior Goes To Military School!'' mini-series [[TheChewToy where he gets tortured far beyond normal]] by Sergeant Brooklyn T. Guy. He is forced to squirt hot sauce in his eyes, watch ''WesternAnimation/BigHero6'', have Thomas burn in a fireplace in front of him, and eat dirt before breaking both physically and mentally. Thanks to Joseph and Cody though, he restores his original side at the end.
* Legacy -Battlers 2+ introduced Sparks, an upsetting backstory ensues through arcade mode and then [[spoiler: you are challenged to EXE in STAGE EIGHT, who in this case is a [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HopelessBossFight Hopeless Boss Fight]] in which Sparks is literally killed by EXE upon losing.]] [[spoiler:He comes [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BackFromTheDead Back From the Dead]] in the 3D sequel as a [[https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds Woobie, Destroyer of Worlds]] though. ]]
* Tempferret from ''WebVideo/TheFundayPawpetShow''. There's a running gag about things that make him cry, he is always getting fired from his job and eventually picked up a smoking habit from stress.
* Discussed in WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic's editorial regarding Loki from ''Film/{{Thor}}'' and ''Film/TheAvengers2012''. He expresses surprise that he's on the list too--although they're both closer to JerkassWoobie instead.
* Poor Donnie [=DuPre=] from ''WebVideo/DemoReel'', with his always hopeful smile and tragic doe eyes. 42 but acts far younger, still misses his [[spoiler: dead mom]], is in an abusive and failing marriage, has such good intentions but keeps on getting crushed, is kidnapped twice and treated as a "pathetic fag" by comment sections when he's abandoned in the woods and is trying to survive in winter, has his present made lovingly by his friends destroyed by SWAG, and [[spoiler: dies scared and alone]].
* ''WebVideo/TheAutobiographyOfJaneEyre'': Jane, poor lamb. Her life has been extremely difficult, she grew up without proper family and friends, she was abused and expects that it will continue, and she lost her only close friend while she was at school with her. Sometimes she's so down and depressed that it's painful to watch it, and she always beats herself up for being whiny. It's even harder that following Jane Eyre in the book, because it is narrated by the adult Jane who is quite comfortable with herself and controls certain emotions. But PragmaticAdaptation makes this narrative very real and very immediate. Jane, hang in there!
* ''Podcast/WelcomeToNightVale'': Cecil. Most notably in the episodes 'Station Management' where he cowers under his desk in terror while his nightmarish boss(es?) hunt him in the station. 'Sandstorm part B' where he is clearly distressed after ending up in a horrible parallel version of his radio station, ankle-deep in blood. And in 'Cassettes', where his incredibly woobie-ish and adorkable teen-self is abandoned by his family and finally, confused and alone, is attacked in his empty house. The fandom often exhibits the desperate need to care for and protect him from Night Vale's horrors. To a lesser extent, also Carlos, who is the OnlySaneMan in town (as an outsider and a scientist), and rendered hurt, confused, upset and angered by the town on various occasions.
* Raven Queen of ''Toys/EverAfterHigh'' webisodes, she's treated as a villain simply because her mother was an evil queen, even though she's really far from anything like her mother.
* ''WebVideo/MedukaMeguca'': Madoka is cemented into this role at the end of episode 3 when a crowd (the decidedly rude members of the audience who pressure the team to make episodes faster) boo her to tears when she admits that work on episode 4 hasn't started yet. Kyoko even calls her a Woobie while defending her (and simultaneously ''yelling at her'').
-->'''Madoka:''' ''[through tears]'' I think they get it, Kyoko--\
'''Kyoko:''' If you interrupt again, I will ''feed you glass and throw you under a bus-- '''have I made myself clear'''''? [...] CRAM IT WOOBIE!
* WebVideo/MatthewSantoro:
** Eugene, Matt's clone, is a nerd, and is looked down upon by Matt and the other clones. In addition, he doesn't know basic social skills. He doesn't really deserve all of this, especially when it makes him sad.
** Hugo, one of Matt's clones. It's implied that there's something actually wrong with him, so it's mean of Matt to look down on him.
* ''WebVideo/TenLittleRoosters'' has Chris, who seems to be trapped in his own little ''Literature/TheLordOfTheRings'' fantasy. It gets worse when you find out that he most likely blames himself for his parents' divorce, ''nobody'' in the company likes him and, worst of all, [[spoiler:ends up pulling a HeroicSacrifice saving Burnie from a hail of arrows after Burnie gives him a TheReasonYouSuckSpeech.]]
* From ''WebVideo/EpicsGameshows'', contestants "[=TheWaddlerMC=]" and "Jacaljt10" from Epic's Minecraft Survivor Season 2 ended up being victims to "[=DevinwithDevin=]"'s bullying. Some of Devin's comments weren't aired due to how bad they got.
* From ''WebVideo/KawaiiVinnysMinecraftSurvivor'', some examples include Radiant_Oblivion, Michael918, Emperor_Vayne and Blockie. Things didn't go right for them in their respective seasons to put it lightly.
* ''Many'' in ''WebVideo/CriticalRole'', considering it's a series with many characters and the party isn't always the greatest at taking care of their allies...
** Within the party itself, Vex and Vax lost their mother at a young age and were emotionally neglected by their father. Vax becomes a HeartbrokenBadass for a number of episodes after [[spoiler: nearly losing Vex in the Raven Queen's temple]], and Vex is a StepfordSmiler with major self-confidence issues.
** There's also Keyleth, who has a ''serious'' guilt complex and constantly blames herself for everything the party does wrong, and every life they couldn't save.
** And, of course, there's resident IronWoobie Percy, whose entire family was killed [[spoiler: but for his sister]], and who suffers through torture, betrayal, a bad case of DemonicPossession, the [[MyGodWhatHaveIDone guilt of having invented the universe's first firearms]] and even ''[[spoiler: his own death]]'' without giving up. Incidentally, he's played by Creator/TaliesinJaffe, a former child actor whose role in ''Film/MrMom'' might have been the TropeNamer for the Woobie. He gets [[OldShame slightly irritated whenever it's brought up at the table]].
** As for {{Non Player Character}}s, the helpful, {{Adorkable}} mapmaker Tyriok [[spoiler: loses an arm]] after Vox Machina finds him [[spoiler: turned to stone]] and they botch their attempt to fix him.
** There's also [[spoiler: Cassandra de Rolo]], who has been living under the subjugation of a vampire and a necromancer since her early teens, suffering a serious case of UsefulNotes/StockholmSyndrome all the while, after [[spoiler: losing the rest of her family but one: she's Percy's younger sister]].
** The carriage driver the Briarwoods take to Eman is a minor character but he has a ''very'' rough go of it: Percy shoots off two of his fingers and the Briarwoods attempt to assassinate him with an invisible stalker, and all that within a couple of days - not to mention [[spoiler: his backstory is very grim, which he explains while Vox Machina is holding him captive]].
** In recent arcs, Gilmore, a fan-favourite NPC, is turning into an IronWoobie as well. Barely days after Vax [[spoiler: turns down Gilmore's romantic advances]], Gilmore loses his businesses in Eman and Westruun to the Chroma Conclave attack, nearly dies [[spoiler: fighting Thordak]], survives an assassination attempt, and thereafter spends his days running himself ragged trying to maintain a magical barrier over Whitestone. The players love Gilmore dearly, but can do almost nothing to help him.
* Bouygues Telecom (I'm informed that it is pronounced like "[[EverythingSoundsSexierInFrench bweeg]]") has a help forum called "Woobees" (http://forum.bouyguestelecom.fr/). For a Troper, this is part BilingualBonus and part MindScrew. But, then, they ''are'' tech support for a mobile (cellphone) company, so maybe they are TheWoobie until they've had enough and evolve into WoobieDestroyerOfWorlds.
* In ''WebVideo/VesterAndFriends'' Yellow Yoshi Jr really wants to be like his dad but since he is too stupid to do anything right his father frequently abuses and humiliates him.
* ''Literature/CanYouSpareAQuarter'': InUniverse, Graham perceives Jamie as this, given the state the boy was in when Graham first met him and his [[AbusiveParents backstory]].
* ''ARG/TheNoedolekcinArchives'': Jenica Avery Wakeman. The earliest known victim of Kirk Odd, he brutally murdered her in the summer of 1998, and it's implied that her murder case went cold due to a lack of evidence. Her soul remained trapped in his hell for close to nine years before she was able to issue a cry for help that mostly went unheard by the public. Somebody give this poor girl a hug.
* Gilear from the first season of {{WebVideo/Dimension20}}, ''Fantasy High'', becomes a shell of a man when he discovers his wife cheated on him and that his daughter Fig isn't his biologically, living a truly pathetic life-especially by the standards of the skilled adventurers he finds himself surrounded by-[[spoiler: up until the end of season 2, where he finally admits to himself that he deserves to live in a house and moves out of his girlfriend's garage]].
--> '''Brennan:''' I'm gonna go through his modifiers real quick: Strength? 0. Dexterity? 0. Constitution? -1. Intelligence? +1. Wisdom? +1 Charisma? -2. Gilear Faeth has an armor class of 10 and 5 hit points.
--> '''Emily:''' ''laughing'' Why would you create such a cursed creature?
