!!Super Rookies Era

* The surprise visit of Dracule Mihawk, a much, much more powerful foe that gave readers an idea of how strong people are in this story. Also counts as a GrowingTheBeard moment.
* The moment Nami spies a wanted poster of Arlong, suddenly starts acting really troubled, and suddenly takes off with the Going Merry unannounced provides a Foreshadowing to the Arlong Park Arc.

* Luffy's first and second consecutive defeats by Crocodile. The only Straw Hat at that point in the story to be severely beaten was Zoro (by Mihawk), so naturally the main character being handed two defeats in a row out of nowhere (and by being impaled by an enormous hook hand and then dried out into a skin-sack, no less) was pretty surprising for the audience and the crew (This also marks the first in a long series of epic battles where Luffy pushes himself to the extreme for his friends; a trait that eventually nearly costs him his life hundreds of chapters later).
* Nico Robin, TheDragon to Crocodile, joining the crew in the epilogue of the arc. Although it's a LateArrivalSpoiler and ItWasHisSled by now, it was a huge moment of surprise when it first came out.

* The Straw Hats getting curb-stomped by Aokiji at Long Ring Long Land, even as they all teamed up against him, showed that there were characters vastly stronger than any of the main characters. This incident provoked Luffy into finding new ways to get stronger, now that he was aware of people like Aokiji.

* The lovable and helpful square-nosed carpenter, the hilarious and badass ventriloquist, the sexy secretary, and the kindly bar owner? Yeah, they're the villains, and part of the World Government's assassination/intelligence organization: Cipher Pol No. 9.
** And that's relatively tame compared to the other plot points: the Going Merry is revealed to be damaged beyond repair, Robin leaves the crew for then unknown reasons and supposedly betrays the crew, and Usopp, due to both his own fears of being too weak and Luffy's decision to get another ship, not only leaves the crew as well but also challenges Luffy for the ownership of the Going Merry. Long before Marineford, Water 7 was also a Wham Arc.

* The first time Luffy demonstrates Gear Second. Blueno is proving an even match with Luffy, so the latter performs a transformation of sorts. Aside from reddening his skin and causing steam to emenate from himself, Luffy doesn't appear much different, so Blueno charges forward- and is suddenly blasted backwards by a Gum Gum Pistol so fast that it isn't even visible, signalling that Luffy has gotten a massive power boost. Blueno gets utterly thrashed from this point on.
* Nico Robin's flashback, in all its details. Robin is actually a survivor of Ohara, the sole survivor to be exact, where many scholars lived delving into the past of the world, which was soon destroyed because they figured out the true power behind the Void Century hidden by the World Government. Robin was given the nickname "Demon Child" and put a heavy bounty as a young girl because she's the only person alive who can translate the Poneglyphs, and thus can expose the Void Century to the rest of the world.
* The Straw Hats and the Water 7 Crew are trapped by the Marines as Enies Lobby is being bombarded to kingdom come and it surely looks they are going to perish... Wait is that Merry in the Horizon, who is piloting - Did she just travel to the Straw Hats alone??
** Merry's keel rupturing as the Straw Hats and allies finally escape the ruins of Enies Lobby and rescuing Robin, and the ship dying and getting a sorrowful VikingFuneral.

* Nearing the end of the arc, the Straw Hats are visited by a high ranking Marine, then the identities of Luffy's father and grandfather are revealed. And nobody saw that coming. They are Monkey D Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army, and Monkey D. Garp, the Hero of the Marines, and a Marine Vice-Admiral.

* Bartholomew Kuma arrives on the ship to aid Moria, dropping news that Blackbeard has been promoted to Warlord of the Sea, as reward for capturing Ace.
* The CallBack to the Vivre Card Ace gave to the Straw Hats. The current state of the card reveals that Ace's life is in danger.
* The narrator notes that something is overseeing the Thriller Bark island, and implied to be the reason for the ships' disappearance in the Florian Triangle. And whatever they are, they don't seem to be good in the slightest.

* Luffy punches a Celestial Dragon, in broad daylight, after he tried to resist the Straw Hats. His father Rosward then called Admiral Kizaru to deal with the pirates, leading to--
* The explosive end of the arc that led to the events of Chapter 513. Quite possibly the greatest Wham in the entire series simply due to how it was delivered; After teleporting Zoro away in the last chapter, Kuma goes on to single-handedly deliver the entire crew their first true defeat (as a team) by teleporting every single last crewmate to several different locations across the globe. And mind you, this was literally right before they were about set sail for the New World. With NO hint by Oda AT ALL that any such thing was about to happen, this left the entire fanbase stunned as the next 88 chapters were focused solely on Luffy's adventures.
** The anime extended the scene, added in a reverse Nakamania montage set to a violin solo version of Binks' Sake, and to increase the impact for the Anime only crowd followed the scene with an alternate universe filler arc so that you didn't find out what happened to everybody for another few weeks!
** Not to mention a display of Bartholomew Kuma's sheer power, first seen near the end of the Thriller Bark arc -- his bounty is lower than Gecko Moria's (though One Piece showed time and again that bounties are not the true indicator of strength), whom Luffy had recently defeated, but Kuma curb-stomps all of the Straw Hats in record time. This time, however, all of the crewmates saw each other vanishing into thin air, and the chapter ended with the declaration of the Straw Hat Pirates' eradication. It was painfully obvious the series was taking a different and darker direction at that very point.

* First of all, Ace being revealed as the son of the late Pirate King, Gold Roger.
** It really is a big one, considering that there was no indication that Gold Roger had a lover, let alone a child, due to Portgas D. Rouge extending her pregnancy with Ace for twenty months straight so the Marines or anyone will never know.
* Chapter 573. Admiral Akainu punches a hole through Ace's chest with a magma fist. The name of Chapter 574? "Portgas D. Ace Is Dead".
** Right after Ace dies, Whitebeard orders his men to take Luffy and escape while he makes his last stand against the Marines. After Akainu blows off half of Whitebeard's face, Blackbeard suddenly shows up with his crew and the most dangerous prisoners from Impel Down. After a brief one-sided fight in Whitebeard's favor, the rest of Blackbeard's crew retaliates with a joint attack, finally killing the old man. After which, Blackbeard does... something while hidden away from anyone else's view, he comes back and reveals that he's now taken Whitebeard's earthquake powers on top of his own darkness-based powers, something that's supposed to be impossible, and proclaims that the new era now belongs to HIM. One Piece might go from being a CrapsaccharineWorld to just a CrapsackWorld. Marineford is THE Wham ARC!
* Whitebeard's dying speech drops some major bombs regarding the MythArc. He confirms that One Piece is out there to the world and that finding it will cause a massive upheaval in the world. He also reflects on how the "wills" of Ace and Roger have been passed down for centuries and specifically excludes Teach from that group. In essence, he took the three main mysteries of the series (what One Piece is, what's the Will of D., and the Void history) and strongly implied they are all interlocked.
* Chapter 579 achieves a SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome as the once pathetic wimp Coby finally snaps under the pressure and shouts at the top of his lungs that all the fighting between the pirates and Marines was pointless. This effectively causes ALL OF MARINEFORD to stop fighting to listen in. Coby shouts how continuing this fight no longer means anything. All the pirates and Marines who have lost their lives in the senseless fighting would only look like complete idiots in the long run. The Marines had accomplished their goal of killing Ace, but now they insist on fighting off pirates who don't want to fight back, and just extending the battle beyond what it needs to be. He doesn't care if he gets punished by the Marines for his outburst, but he does it anyway. Unfortunately, the Marines insist on fighting further... Then Shanks shows up to put an end to this war.
* Chapter 583 introduces Luffy's other brother, Sabo. Ace's crossed 'S' tattoo was in tribute to Sabo himself. This finally explains why Luffy had a CynicismCatalyst regarding Alabasta's Civil War, and why Luffy was also eager to wage war on the World Government, because a World Noble shot Sabo when he was escaping his abusive parents!!!

!!New World Era

* Shirahoshi is the Ancient Weapon, Poseidon, as evidenced by her (unwitting) summoning of several Sea Kings.
* Humans had done nothing wrong to Hody, showing how Fishmen are taught to hate humans.
* Aokiji and Akainu fought for 10 days over who would become the new fleet admiral, with Akainu being the victor. Worse, it's later made clear who really wanted the position -- Akainu maimed Aokiji to the point he's now CoveredInScars and down a leg, replaced with a Devil Fruit power-generated prosthesis made of ice.
* Blackbeard has become one of the Four Emperors and is looking to hunt down powerful Devil Fruit users to take their abilities.
* And finally, Luffy has challenged Big Mom over ownership of Fish-Man Island, succeeding the deceased Whitebeard who previously held the territory.

* Trafalgar Law is a Warlord.
** Said warlord is hell-bent on summoning the wrath of one of the Four Emperors -- namely, Kaido, the most savage of them all, the new owner of the title "Strongest Man Alive" following Whitebeard's death, and ruthless to the point he even scares Doflamingo.
* Kuzan (former Admiral Aokiji) appears in a BigDamnHeroes moment to save Smoker from Doflamingo when he was a hair breadth away from killing Smoker. In a conversation to Smoker, he reveals he has discovered the corruption of the Government which he didn't bother to notice as a former Admiral. Smoker insinuates Kuzan is now affiliated with the Underworld, which he doesn't deny.

* Remember when Doflamingo claimed that he was only a Warlord for kicks and that he could quit any time he feels like it? Turns out the reason he's not scared of the consequences of this (facing the admirals) is because he's actually a former World Noble, and despite having had lost most of his privileges, he can still overrule the Marines if he wants to, which is how he pulled it off.
* Chapter 730: The Straw Hats already have their hands full with Doflamingo kidnapping Law after injuring him in the last chapter, but the Thousand Sunny group encounters one more problem: one of Big Mom's ships coming to get Caesar.
* Chapter 731: The Dressrosa whams before were big, but none of them top the next one: Sabo, Luffy's other "brother", is alive.
* Chapter 763: Trafalgar D. Water Law.
* Chapter 764: After over a decade of knowing next to nothing about the enigmatic D., we finally get some information. While it seems that the truth and finer details have been lost to history, D. is rumored to be the antithesis to God, or put more plainly, the mortal enemies of the Celestial Dragons.
* Chapter 783: Gear... Fourth!
* Chapter 785: Doflamingo then promptly reveals the concept of "Awakened Devil Fruit Powers" via turning the buildings and ground around him into string. That is all.
* Chapter 793: Two big whams in this -- former admiral Aokiji/Kuzan, one of the most benevolent members of the Marines, was hinted in the last arc to be allied to an Underworld figure. And now not only is that confirmed, but we know who it is: Blackbeard. Also, Kid's alliance is quite relieved that Law and Luffy are targeting Kaido, leaving them with no clear obstacles in pursuing their own target among the Four Emperors: Red-Haired Shanks.
* Chapter 795: Ladies and Gentlemen... Kaido.
* Many fans of One Piece love guessing who will be the next character to join the crew. Well, Chapter 799 does reveal that 5600 people are willing to join the Straw Hats. The hype surrounding the buildup of each crew and their leaders was palpable.
* Chapter 800: Luffy turns them down under the reasoning that he doesn't care about how great he is. Realizing that means they're free to do whatever the hell they want, ALL 5600 JOIN. Thus the birth of the Straw Hat Grand Fleet. The ability to predict what happens next in One Piece has just been torn asunder.
* Chapter 801: Rob Lucci reappears in the manga, from his last appearance where he was a fugitive from the World Government after Spandam's condemnation, and is promoted to Cipher Pol 0, the strongest Cipher Pol Unit. Speaking of Spandam, the BadBoss of [=CP9=] is working under Lucci now, a far cry from his haughty early appearance.
** Meanwhile, Sanji's bounty reads ONLY ALIVE.

* Chapter 812: Sanji's last name, "Vinsmoke" is finally revealed, and he's engaged to one of Big Mom's daughters, with their earlier-mentioned party being his wedding.
* Chapter 816: After all the devastation Jack brought to Mokomo Dukedom in search for a Samurai whom the Minks know nothing about... it's revealed that the Minks were harboring Raizou, and they were and are ready to die to the last Mink rather than rat out their friend.
* Chapter 818 is just a cluster bomb of whams regarding the MythArc:
** The red Poneglyph on Zou is called a Road Poneglyph, so named because the contents of it are a map, which reveals the location of Laugh Tale. It's not the only Road Poneglyph, however; it's one of a set of four, and you need all of them to make any use of the information. So, where are the other three? One is lost, and the other two are in the possessions of Kaido and Big Mom.
** The Kozuki clan that Momonosuke belongs to are descendants of the stonemasons that CARVED the Poneglyphs. Momonosuke is now the last of them due to his family's massacre.
** Momonosuke can't read Poneglyphs because his father never got the chance to pass on the knowledge, due to being executed by the Shogun of Wano and Kaido. Why did they do that? Because they wanted information he had on Laugh Tale, since he sailed with Gold Roger.
* And Oda goes all of one chapter before making another whammy with Chapter 820. Let's see...
** Dogstorm and Cat Viper sailed with Oden and Roger, and all three of them also sailed with Whitebeard.
** Halfway into the timeskip, the remnants of the Whitebeard Pirates fought against the Blackbeard Pirates, lost horribly, and the captains vanished. We find that out because Cat Viper and Dogstorm are looking for Marco to join their alliance. And that's how Blackbeard became an Emperor.
** Finally, just as Jack begins attacking Zunesha, Luffy hears a voice he can't identify.
* Chapter 821 is much less whammy, but still enough for this: Momonosuke can also hear the Voice of All Things, Zunesha is fully sentient and destroyed Jack's fleet with one swipe of his trunk, and Apoo is Kaido's subordinate.
* Chapter 823: The final page -- Baltigo has been destroyed.

* Though it was hinted at, Chapter 835 finally confirmed that Lola is one of Big Mom's daughters, and that she had an older, identical twin sister, Chiffon, whom Sanji met aboard the Firetank Pirates' ship.
* Chapter 840: All five Vinsmoke children were artificially enhanced using gene manipulation technology discovered by Vegapunk and Judge years ago, and perfected by the later in the years that follow his escape from the World Government.
* Chapter 850: Pudding is evil and has been playing everyone, including the Straw Hats, for fools. This is accompanied by a WhamShot of Pudding's creepy, three-eyed face as she laughs at her own cruelty.
* Chapter 852: A rather tearjerking wham that concerns Sanji, who along his brothers were not only artificially enhanced, they had their ability to feel and understand positive emotions such as love and compassion surgically removed by Judge in utero, against the wishes of their kindhearted mother, Sora. Sora sacrificed herself to save her sons by consuming a drug that completely undid Lineage Factor experiments, but only managed to save Sanji. Judge's experiments were also the reason why Sanji's brothers acted like utterly cruel assholes towards everyone around them all their lives.
** The wham factor of this reveal intensifies when you look back on every good and kind deed Sanji had done in previous arcs, including helping out the Straw Hats. Had it not been for his mother, Sanji, the perverted, chivalrous, and abrasive SupremeChef fans know and love, would have never existed.
* Chapter 863: Pudding's two-faced behavior was the result of physical and psychological childhood bullying for being three-eyed, which caused the still young girl to snap and become a broken, deceitful, and murderous psychopath who believes that all she would ever be is a "monster".
* Chapter 865: After over 17 years of being hyped up, we finally see one of the most anticipated locations in One Piece -- Elbaf, land of the giants!
* Chapter 867: Three major whams, two of which concern Carmel.
** First, she was the previous owner of Big Mom's Soul-Soul Fruit.
** Second, her motherly personality? All an act. In reality, she's actually an Underworld broker, who sells her orphans to the government!
** And third, the possibly that Big Mom inheriting the Soul-Soul Fruit by (likely) eating Carmel by accident along with the kids in present of her 6th birthday! Likely confirming another way to inherit a DF is to EAT the user of that DF.
* Chapter 868: With everything going according to plan, it looks like Big Mom's assassination is in the bag. However, Big Mom's scream is so powerful, it manages to destroy Caeser's KX Launchers. Not only that, but it also destroyed Luffy and his allies' only means of escape. To top it all off, Katakuri had used his Devil Fruit powers to create earplugs for his fellow family members, allowing them to gang up on the allies. What does this mean? Not only did the entire assassination plan of Big Mom fail, but the entire alliance are surrounded by Mama's crew, and have NOWHERE TO RUN!
* Chapter 883: Charlotte Katakuri has proven to be THE strongest opponent Luffy has faced, with a bounty surpassing Jack's and an Awakened Devil Fruit. After he believes to have defeated Luffy, Katakuri heads to his shrine to enjoy his delayed snack time. Having none of this, Luffy destroys Katakuri's shrine... and we see the Sweet 3 General without his scarf, revealing a mouth full of FANGS as he lays down (debunking Brúlee's praise of him earlier), gluttonously pigging out on some donuts. Basically, this is a wham episode solely because of Katakuri's true nature outside of battle.
* Chapter 900. The Straw Hats look ready to depart from Big Mom's territory with the unexpected arrival of the Sun Pirates carving a path for their escape and the Germa fleet seeking revenge against Big Mom's children. However, things begin to fall apart once Oven uses his ability to boil the sea and defeat the Sun Pirates, followed by the Germa 66 children getting Gatling gunned by candy-jacketed bullets designed specifically against them, and Judge looking overwhelmed by two silhouetted combatants of Big Mom. And for the coup de grace? The Thousand Sunny, with Luffy, Sanji, Nami, Chopper, Brook, Carrot, and Jimbei on board without room to escape, appearing to get blown up by cannon fire from Big Mom's singing ship, last mentioned in story since Chapter 807. With the chapter's final panel showing the Straw Hat's Jolly Roger flag floating in the sea in tatters. Hoo Boy.

* Chapter 903: For Luffy's role in the assasination attempt on Big Mom, defeating two of her Sweet Commanders: Charlotte Cracker and Katakuri (who have bounties of 860 million and 1.057 billion Beris respectively), allying with Germa 66, the Sun Pirates, and the Fire Tank Pirates, destroying Big Mom's castle, making out of her territory alive, and as the head of the Straw Hats Grand Fleet, Luffy was given a 1.5 BILLION Beri bounty and was labeled as an unofficial Fifth Emperor.
* Chapter 906: The revelation that the incredibly dangerous, secret treasure of the Celestial Dragons that Doflamingo spoke of in the Dressrosa Arc is apparently a giant straw hat sent the fanbase into a WildMassGuessing frenzy the likes of which hasn't been seen in years.
* Chapter 907: Saint Mjosgard is back, having lost several pounds and on his way to growing a beard since we last saw him. And he shows off his HeelFaceTurn by showing up at the Reverie to deck Jerkass Saint Charloss for trying to enslave Princess Shirahoshi in front of her family, and makes a DeclarationOfProtection towards Fish-Man Island. Oh, and he's a member of the Donquixote family, which means Rosinante isn't the only WhiteSheep anymore.
** On top of that, Big Mom and Kaido were once part of the same crew. On top of THAT, Shanks has enough clout to pay a visit to the Five Elders and seems to know at least one of them.
* Chapter 908:
** Kuma is actually a former King of Sorbet Kingdom.
** This information in nothing compared to the fact that a mysterious person named Imu stabbed the pictures of Luffy, Blackbeard, and Shirahoshi, and with an intact picture of Vivi in his hand. They then sit on the Empty Throne and all Five Elders kowtow to them, showing them to be the true ruler of the World Government, asking which "light" needs to be extinguished from history.

* Chapter 918 ends with Law telling Luffy to check the ruins of Oden Castle to see the "Ghosts of Wano Country". We're then shown a group of tombstones, and on them is written Oden, Momonosuke, Kinemon, Kanjuro, and Raizo.
* Chapter 919 gives us a reason why Momonosuke and his retainers have tombstones -- the four the Straw Hats met, as well as a few others, went forward in time from 20 years ago to the present! That's right, we're going full-on WesternAnimation/SamuraiJack here!
* Chapter 921 gives us insight into the exact nature of Kaidou's Devil Fruit: He's a goddamn dragon!!!
* Chapter 923: Continuing from the epic punch from the last chapter, Luffy unleashes his fiercest attack yet on Kaido, which barely fazes him, and then Kaido one-shots Gear Fourth Luffy out. That's right, Kaido earned his epithet.
* Chapter 925: What a Thanksgiving delivery from Goda.
** During an intermission from Wano, Moria makes his first post time skip appearance in a news coo report after attacking an island, prompting Perona to leave Mihawk to return to him. And Mihawk approves, hinting she may be right to leave him after an interesting topic was brought up at Reverie, possibly hinting at the start of the elimination of the Seven Warlords system Fujitora desired.
** Then, we find out Gecko Moria's island attack was motivated to find his crewmate Absalom before Blackbeard kills him for his Invisibility Devil Fruit power to pass onto one of his crewmates. Not only is Moria too late to save him, seeing Shiryu using Absalom's power to attack him, we also see Catarina Devon's DF power revealed as the user of the Mystical Beast Zoan, Nine Tailed Fox, followed by Devon cruelly teasing Moria he can have Absalom's corpse back.
** THEN, Blackbeard asks Moria to join his crew, followed by casually dropping the news the Leaders of the Revolutionary army fought against Admirals Fujitora and Ryokugyu during Reverie to rescue Kuma, and declaring the events in Wano with Luffy, Kaido, and Big Mom the start of the Throne Wars Doflamingo mentioned a few arcs ago. All while appearing post-timeskip in person for the first time with a $2.2 billion beli bounty, wearing a pair of sunglasses similar to Kuzan's, possibly implying something bad happened to the former admiral after connecting with Blackbeard Or Kuzan simply lent it to him and wandered off.
** And finally, we return to Wano, with two more whams, one minor, one major. Minorly, [Shutenmaru confirms he's Ashura to Kinemon, but shows no loyalty to the Kozuki clan, creating difficulty in gaining his help to rebel against Kaido. And majorly, the two remaining Calamities/All-stars are shown dwarfing & bullying Jack the Drought. One being King the Wildfire, wearing BDSM gear, a fiery mane, and a Shiryu sized sword, and the other, Queen the Plague, a leather strapped Wilson Fisk clone with a steampunk gear arm similar to Kid's, casually revealing in conversation Queen's in charge of breaking Luffy and Kid's spirits. And both of them are stronger and crazier than Jack. Oi.
* Chapter 930: Big Mom has entered Wano -- and she brought her family with her. Worst-case scenario, we may get to see the Straw Hat Pirates and their allies vs. the Animal Kingdom Pirates vs. the Big Mom Pirates! Suddenly, Oda's claim of the Marineford arc looking cute isn't that far-fetched anymore...
* Chapter 931 doesn't have much impact for most of it, until the very last page here Big Mom wakes up on the shore of Wano and asks "Who am I?"
* Chapter 938: Not only is Komurasaki alive, but her true identity is revealed to be Kozuki Hiyori, Momonosuke's younger (technically now older) sibling.
* Chapter 941: Tonoyasu is revealed to be a former daimyo of Wano -- Shimotsuki Yasuie.
* Chapter 942: Not only is Tonoyasu executed, but he and the people of Ebisu Town were forced to smile against their own will -- making the SMILE fruits take on a whole new meaning.
* Chapter 943 further elaborates on the above Wham. Only 10% of people that eat a SMILE fruit actually gain powers. The other 90% have most of their emotions shut off, leaving them with a permanent smile and the inability to express sadness or anger. When Orochi saw the people in constant mourning over their lost loved ones, he took the failed SMILE fruits and gave them to the peasants, cursing them with the same permanent smile. The people of Wano quickly figured out the curse, but when faced with the possibility of starving to death... some ate the fruit.
* Chapter 944: Kamazo's true identity is revealed. He's Killer from the Kid Pirates, and he's been subjected to a failed SMILE fruit too. Then Big Mom shows up to the prison...
* Chapter 954: As days of preparation until the raid on Onigashima go smoothly for the Ninja-Mink-Pirate-Samurai Alliance with the gathering of 5000 soldiers and weapons to take on Kaido, we are given three bombshells from what happened this chapter.
** One: Scratchman Apoo was working for Kaido all along and betrayed his alliance with Kid and Hawkins, which led to the former held prisoner while the latter had to join just so he has a chance of survival.
** Two: Another group of Kaido's pirates are called The Numbers who arrived along with Apoo and they are all freakishly gigantic and may be above the Headliners especially the Flying Six!
** Last but not least, do you remember when the World Government would heavily fear the thought of two of the Four Emperors forming an alliance when it took a whole Marine force taking on one of them and their crew? Well guess what? Kaido and Big Mom have formed a pirate ALLIANCE!
* Chapter 956. First, Garp tells the Fish-Man Island royal family that after the resolution of the Reverie, an incident happened involving the Alabasta Kingdom, potentially endangering Vivi and Cobra. We then learn that someone was killed at the Reverie, and that the World Government is attempting to cover it up. THEN we learn that something happened to Sabo. Then we learn X. Drake is still a Marine, of the secret task force SWORD. And we end the chapter with the reveal that the Seven Warlords of the Sea were abolished, with the Marines closing in on all of the Warlords to capture them.
* Chapter 957: An exposition bomb of a chapter, it's revealed that:
** Kaido, Big Mom, Whitebeard, Shiki and Captain John were all part of the Rocks Pirates, a crew led by a man with the ambition and power to take over the world. They were so absurdly strong that it took Garp teaming up with the future Pirate King Gol D. Roger himself to take them down in a battle that completely wiped an island off the map.
** Another double-whammy reveal comes with the name of the captain of the Rocks Pirates: Rocks D. Xebec, with "Xebec" being the name of Blackbeard's ship (Saber of Xebec).
** Finally, the bounties of the Four Emperors (including Whitebeard) and Gold Roger are shown: in his heyday, Roger had a whopping 5.5 billion Beri bounty to his name.
* Chapter 967:
** We now have a hint as to where the missing Road Poneglyph is. The last known holders of it were none other than the kingdom of Fish-Man Island.
** We get our first hint at what the One Piece truly is. Whatever it is, it made Roger and his entire crew laugh until they teared up. Because of what he saw, Roger christened this final island Laugh Tale.
* Chapter 973: As Orochi laughed regarding the disgraceful manner in which Oden was executed, Denjiro ran away in anger to a house nearby, and after a long time, emerged as a grey-haired boy whom we all currently know as one of Orochi's top men, Kyoshiro.
* Chapter 974:
** Not only is Kanjuro of all people TheMole that has been feeding Orochi information on the heroes from the beginning, his real name is revealed: Kurozumi Kanjuro. He's also been faking his whole TerribleArtist persona this whole time, using a copy of himself as a decoy in the present and kidnapping Momonosuke.
** Just when all hope for the Red Scabbards has been lost, TheCavalry has arrived with the Hearts and Straw Hat Pirates. Their arrival shouldn't have come as a surprise, but the real whammy is that they have brought a new ally: Eustass Kid.
* Chapter 985:
** Kaido's plan is revealed. Teaming up with Big Mom, he wants to obtain the Ancient Weapons and get One Piece to turn the world into one ruled by fear and violence. In order to do that, he's planning to completely take over the Flower Capital of Wano and convert it to New Onigashima, installing Yamato as the Shogun. Orochi objects, only to be swiftly beheaded by Kaido, ending their 20+ year alliance. Luffy and Yamato then expose themselves when Kaido reveals that he wants Yamato to serve as the PuppetKing of New Onigashima.
* Chapter 999:
** The name of Kaido's Devil Fruit is revealed, destroying many theories. He ate a Mythical model of the Fish-Fish Fruit. That fruit is also the debt Kaido owes to Big Mom, as she gave it to him during the God Valley incident.
* Chapter 1000:
** Yamato reveals that within Oden's logbook, he left a message describing what will happen in the future.
---> Over 20 years in the future, powerful pirates leading the next generation will come swarming into the New World!! If I am dead by then, they will be the ones to strike down Kaido!!!
** Luffy finally reaches Kaido and Big Mom, and with the training from the prison and enraged over all the friends he's made this arc being hurt, summons a Red Hawk variant of Elephant Gun called Red Roc, which draws blood from a sober Kaido.
* Chapter 1007: The battered Akazaya Nine encounter Oden who is somehow alive.
* Chapter 1008:
** "Oden" is revealed to be a fake created by a still alive Kanjuro, and Ashura sacrifices himself to stop the fake from blowing himself up.
** Orochi is revealed to still be alive, and has set fire to Onigashi castle as revenge.
** Kaido's hybrid form is revealed.
* Chapter 1010:
** Zoro has Conqueror's Haki.
** Luffy figures out where Kaido is getting his monstrous strength from. He's been infusing his attacks with Conqueror's Haki similar to how one infuses Armament Haki. After Luffy figures this out from an attack he received, he learns how to do it himself and starts hitting Kaido on equal ground. Without his Gears. He then declares he plans to take on Kaido 1v1.
* Chapter 1011:
** Big Mom, seeing that Zeus has failed her, is inspired by Prometheus to create a replacement named Hera.
** Tama reveals that Okobore village, the same village that was nice to Big Mom while she was amnesiac, was destroyed by Kaido's men due to being accused of stealing food. This revelation has Big Mom break her alliance with Kaido, signified by her using Conqueror's Haki to punch Page-One right in the Adam's apple. And Ulti witnesses this.
* Chapter 1013:
** Big Mom defeats Ulti effortlessly, showcasing her power as an Emperor. She then kills Zeus and feds his remains to Hera.
** Just as she's about to kill the fleeing Straw Hats, Captain Kidd shows up to take her on.
** Luffy has lost once more to Kaido and he is falling from Onigashima while unconscious.
* Chapter 1017… good lord where to start:
** Firstly, enraged at being called "Judge's Brat" once again, Sanji demands Queen to cut it out, which leads Queen to revealing he was originally a part of MADS, the same group as Vinsmoke Judge, in the distant past… which is significant, when one recalls who he worked for: Dr. Vegapunk.
** But wait, there’s more! Later on, as Jimbei fights against Who's Who's, it's revealed that the Tobi Roppo is in fact a former [=CP9=] agent and rival to Rob Lucci, who got in trouble because he failed to protect a certain Devil Fruit. That Devil Fruit? Luffy's Gum-Gum Fruit, which Shanks had at the beginning of the story.
* Chapter 1023:
** Luffy encounters a giant dragon in front of him, except it's not Kaido, it's a grown up Momonosuke that grew up due to the effects of the Ripe-Ripe ability of Shinobu.
* Chapter 1028:
** The World Government is sending troops to Wano with two goals. The first, on the off-chance that Kaido actually loses, they will take control of Wano. The second, capture Nico Robin.
** Throughout the battle, Sanji noticed that his body had been acting strange. During his fight with Queen, he gets crushed by his "Braciosnakeus" form, and is visibly broken in multiple places. But then he turns back to normal like nothing happened. Queen tries hitting him with his sword only for the blade to shatter. Sanji's Germa abilities have finally awoken.
* Chapter 1030: It turns out that Law and Kid have already awakened their Devil Fruits, but they consider it a DangerousForbiddenTechnique that neither have shown off until now due to how much stamina it drains.
* Chapter 1031: Sanji destroys his Raid Suit can upon realizing that's why his Germa powers are finally being realized, as a last bridge to burn from his family. But should Sanji ever lose himself, he tells Zoro that he should be the one to put Sanji down.
* Chapter 1032: Komurasaki is apparently still around despite Hiyori having abandoned that identity, but whether it's an illusion much like the one of Oden conjured by Kanjuro is currently unknown.
* Chapter 1033: Zoro finally gets a handle on Enma draining his Armament Haki through learning of his home village's connection to Wano via Shimotsuki Kozaburo, who taught Zoro about cursed swords.
* Chapter 1035: King is finally unmasked, and we get a hint of his past too. King, formerly known as Alber, was experimented on in Punk Hazard until Kaido found and recruited him. King's subordinates also claim the World Government will reward anyone who gives them info about any living Lunarians.
** Also, Sanji, whose Jambe techniques have been just improved, actually beat Queen.
* Chapter 1037: The Five Elders discuss the events of Wano, where it's revealed there was a Devil Fruit they renamed for reasons unknown, while Zunisha just so happens to be making its way to Wano, giving the implication that they're connected somehow.
* Chapter 1040:
** Kid and Law manage to stop Big Mom and take her out of the battle.
** Big Mom's monologue as she falls seems to indicate that part of the One Piece is on Wano itself.
** Momo reveals that Zunesha was Joy Boy's companion.
* Chapter 1043:
** Kaido seems to have done the impossible: he killed Luffy. Momo and Law claim that they can't "hear" his voice anymore. But as Kaido announces his victory to the enemy forces, who refuse to back down, Zunesha makes an announcement: for the first time in 800 years, he can hear the drums of liberation. Joy Boy has returned. Cut to Luffy, who is now grinning and melting, Straw Hat and all.
* Chapter 1044: Holy crap.
** We get to find out what the Five Elders were talking about earlier: they were referring to the Gum Gum Fruit. Its true name and nature? The Mythical Zoan-type Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika.
** As it turns out, Luffy has awakened his fruit thanks to that huge loss. His awakened powers gives him even more freedom to control his rubbery body, limited only by his imagination. In other words, Luffy can now fight with ToonPhysics, and he decides to call this power GEAR 5TH.
** The Five Elders also say that Zoan fruits have wills of their own, with Luffy's having the will of a god, hence why it has escaped them for 800 years. And that the fruit turns them into an embodiment of the Warrior of Liberation meant to put smiles on peoples' faces. And with Zunisha saying to Momonosuke that Luffy is Joyboy, it's become clear that he and Sun God Nika were one and the same all along.
* Chapter 1049: We get more of Kaido's backstory, revealing how his home kingdom sold him out to the Marines in exchange for being allowed to attend the Levely. The chapter also ends with Luffy finally defeating Kaido in a OneHitKO.
* Chapter 1050: As everyone celebrates Kaido being defeated at last, Denjiro confirms that the new shogun of Wano has come.
* Chapter 1051: The Akazaya Nine, including Kin'emon and Kiku, are revealed to have survived. Momo, now an adult, officially becomes the new Shogun of Wano. Yamato asks to join the Straw Hats.
* Chapter 1052: A LOT to unpack in the aftermath of Wano a week later.
** The Five Elders are now fully aware that Nika has resurfaced via Luffy, Big Mom and Kaido defeated, Wano borders remain closed which prevents the WG from sending their forces to occupy the nation, and that the timing couldn't be far worse for them due to what happened recently. When the sole surviving [=CP0=] agent on Wano tries to assure them that the mission to capture Robin is still ongoing, they are being contacted by another source.
** Hawkins knew all along that Kaido's defeat was imminent to X Drake and that he didn't betray him to return to Kidd's side was out of pride. Then he reveals the person who had a 1% chance of survival among them as Kid and Killer are still alive after the war... it was himself before dying from his wounds. The first of the Worst Generation has died.
** Speaking of deaths while most of Akazaya Nine are confirmed to be alive, Ashura Doji and Izo did not make it as their deaths are confirmed from their weapons being recovered. Luffy and Zoro are now awake with the latter surviving his near-fatal experience.
** Apoo joined by the Number Inbi has successfully leaked intel of what happened to the press and outside, leading to not only updated bounties of the involved in the war on Wano, but also the names of the new Emperors of the Sea following the defeats of Big Mom and Kaido!
** Last but not least, the arriving flight of the third current and newly added Admiral Ryokugyu who is in Wano and by himself!! Not only is he there for his own reasons as Sakazuki warns him to not cause any more trouble, but a hint to his Devil Fruit is revealed by the large flower from his back as a propeller.
* Chapter 1053:
** The news of Big Mom and Kaido's defeats quickly spread across the world. For their efforts, Luffy, Kid, and Law all receive a bounty of 3 billion berry. Luffy's picture also updates to include him in Gear Five.
** Kid reveals to Luffy that because of Big Mom and Kaido's defeats, Luffy and Buggy replace them as two of the Four Emperors.
** Tenguyama Hitetsu reveals to Robin he's Kozuki Sukiyaki, Oden's father, and confirms her suspicions that the ancient superweapon Pluton is somewhere in Wano.
** Admiral Ryokugyu finally makes his proper debut by absolutely trouncing King and Queen, claiming that he's gunning for Luffy's head next. Finally, he alludes that since the Straw Hats made it to Wano, the rest of the world has been thrown into chaos.
* Chapter 1054: The events surrounding Alabasta and the Revolutionaries during the Reverie are finally revealed: the Revolutionary Army commanders managed to escape with Kuma in tow. Before that, however, Sabo seemingly killed Cobra, with Vivi going missing at roughly the same time.
* Chapter 1055: Robin, Law, and the audience get to learn more about the Road Poneglyph beneath Wano, also revealing that Wano was once underwater during the Void Century. It's also confirmed that Pluton also exists in Old Wano, with the additional revelation that Oden opening Wano's borders would mean revealing the Ancient Weapon.
* Chapter 1056: As the Straw Hats prepare to leave Wano and dissolve their alliances with Law & Kid, Inuarashi and Nekomamushi name Carrot their successor as ruler of Zou while they stay on Wano, Caribou learns of Pluton and decides to alert someone, Kid plans to search for a man with a burn scar to help him find the One Piece, and one more thing. How did Buggy become one of the Four Emperors? By joining forces with fellow ex-Warlords Mihawk and Crocodile while issuing bounties on the Marines!

* Chapter 1059:
** The Seraphim, the new Pacifista models, are shown during the attack on Amazon Lily: they are child versions of the former Warlords spliced with Lunarian Lineage Factor. The Mihawk Seraphim is strong enough to cleave an entire mountain in half.
** We are given a few more details concerning the Rocky Port incident: Koby's involvement somehow allowed Blackbeard to oust Ochoku, formerly a member of the Rocks Pirates, and become the new ruler of Pirate Island.
** Shakky is revealed to be a former Empress of Amazon Lily and ex-captain of the Kuja Pirates from two generations prior to Hancock's tenure.
* Chapter 1060: Oh boy.
** While Luffy's dream to be the Pirate King is well known, it turns out he's doing that to facilitate his true dream, and he tells his crew what that dream is (the only other people he's told were Ace, Sabo, and Shanks). However, the audience is left in the dark.
** Sabo declares his innocence to Dragon and tells him that he didn't kill Cobra, but before he can reveal that supposed Empty Throne isn't actually empty, the Kingdom of Lulusia (where he was hiding), gets nuked from orbit while someone tells the Navy, who intercepted the communications between Sabo and Dragon, that the Kingdom of Lulusia Unperson never existed. One wonders if this is how God Valley also disappeared from the map.
* Chapter 1063: Jewelry Bonney reveals herself to be Kuma's daughter. And Law has arrived at his destination, straight into an ambush. The crew that ambushed him? Blackbeard's.
* Chapter 1065: Nami, Usopp, Sanji, Robin and Franky meet Shaka, who reveals the truth about Egghead: as it turns out, all of the futuristic technology on the island is actually derived from the past, rather than the future. Not specifically, Shaka reveals that the technology is derived from a kingdom that existed 900 years ago--heavily implying that Egghead was inspired by the Great Kingdom itself.
* Chapter 1066: It's outright confirmed that the highly-advanced kingdom of the past was, indeed, the Great Kingdom. Not only that, but we get more info on the destruction of Ohara: the scholars on the island successfully protected the books that held the knowledge forbidden by the World Government--books that were then taken to Elbaf. Dragon was inspired by the destruction of Ohara to create the Revolutionaries, and Saul, the Marine vice-admiral that saved Robin from the island's destruction, actually survived the attack. We also finally get to see the real Dr. Vegapunk in the flesh, who was horrified by the World Government destroying Ohara, but still wanted to work under them for the money, much to Dragon’s disgust.
* Chaper 1069: Vegapunk finally explains the nature of the Sun God Nika and the Devil Fruits: Nika was a god from literature from long, long ago. Despite the name having been erased from all known historical records (as well as the ambiguity as to whether Nika ever actually existed), his existence persists due to the wishes of people who seek to be liberated. These wishes coalsced into the Human-Human Fruit: Model Nika, as all Devil Fruits are born of the hopes and desires of people, each representing a possible future and evolution for humanity.
* Chapter 1072: Stussy is revealed to be created by MADS as a clone of Bakkin, or rather, Buckingham Stussy of the Rocks Pirates.
* Chapter 1073: The name of one of the Five Elders has finally been revealed, that being Jaygarcia Saturn, the one who looks like a rabbi. He's also revealed to have encountered Vegapunk a long time ago.
* Chapter 1074: Vivi finally returns after being confirmed to have survived the assassination of Cobra. She is seen on Big News Morgans' ship alongside Wapol, and they seem to be headed straight for Egghead Island.
* Chapter 1078: It's teased that the events on Egghead will have a seismic impact on the world, moreso than the events on Ohara, while the traitor is revealed to be none other than York.
* Chapter 1079: After a few chapters worth of buildup to what seemed to be an epic battle, Shanks singlehandedly takes out both Kid and Killer in a single blow, with Dorry and Broggy destroying their ship, ending the Kid Pirates for good.
* Chapter 1081: Kuzan aka Aokiji is confirmed to be the tenth Titanic Captain of the Blackbeard Pirates due to being offered to join and he did willingly. Not only that, Teach defeats Law along with Bepo and sinks the Heart Pirates' ship along with their crew in the process. While Bepo managed to escape with Law thanks to Chopper offering him a pill that helps him use Sulong form without the full moon to catch Teach by surprise, once again like the Kid Pirates who were Straw Hats' allies... the Heart Pirates as a whole have been utterly defeated.
* Chapter 1082: Buggy reveals that he didn't join Shanks because he was disappointed with him not going after the One Piece despite being more than qualified to lead the crew to become the Pirate King. After finding out Shanks is now going after the One Piece, Buggy takes control away from Mihawk and Crocodile of the Cross Guild by riling up their members into going after the One Piece so he can try to become Pirate King! Sabo is revealed to not only be alive due to contacting Dragon NEAR Lulusia Kingdom instead of being in said island, but also the remaining citizens including Moda who are on the ship with him. Sabo talks with Dragon and Ivankov in private about what he REALLY saw and what happened at the Reverie.
* Chapter 1084: Cobra finally gets to meet with the Five Elders in private, discussing about the World Government's founding by the 20 Kings of each kingdom based on the swords planted around the Empty Throne... only to reveal that there are only 19 swords due to their past Queen Nefertari Lily choosing to serve Alabasta and continue the family line instead of becoming a Celestial Dragon. Only one problem; a small contradiction that Cobra came upon after going through the ancient documents that followed after the Void Century... Lily's name has not been mentioned since then, even though she should have gone back home! That's before Cobra asks his question to the Five Elders about the name of D., which has to do with an 800-year-old letter that has been passed down through the Nefertari Family. But then, the unexpected happens: Imu willingly makes their presence known, despite the Five Elders telling them that Cobra is still present! Cobra is utterly shocked to see the very mysterious person appear and approaching the Empty Throne as if nothing is stopping them! Imu then speaks for the first time by uttering Lily's name before sitting on the Empty Throne in front of King Cobra!
* Chapter 1085: Directly continuing the events of the previous chapter, Imu informs Cobra how people with the name of D. oppose the Celestial Dragons. They then recount how the turmoil of the present is rooted in an incident 800 years ago where Lily scattered the Poneglyphs across the world. Up until now, Imu considered this a mistake on Lily's part, but now they're starting to see that there's more to her actions, and the aforementioned letter is the key. When Imu asks Cobra about the proper name of the one who wrote the letter, Cobra, realizing the fate that's upon him, answers that the writer's identity is Nefeltari D. Lily. Upon that reveal, Cobra is fatally wounded by the Five Elders, leading to Sabo's appearance and the incriminating photo framing him for Cobra's death.
** Retroactively, this meant that there were two D.'s who ended up traveling together from Whiskey Peak all the way to Alabasta as Vivi was a D. but was only revealed decades later.
* Chapter 1086: Hoo boy. The Five Elders are formally named in this chapter with Imu nuking Lulusia Kingdom only because it was the closest one in the region. Imu, theorized by Ivanko, apparently existed 800 years ago by the name "St. Imu of the Nerona Dynasty". And finally, St. Donquixote Myosgard, a Celestial Dragon, was executed by a man named St. Figarland Garling, once a veteran of God Valley and currently the Supreme Commander of the Holy Knights.
* Chapter 1089: Imu's usage of the Mother Flame caused a massive aftershock around the world, with earthquakes and tsunamis occuring worldwide as a consequence, culminating in the sea level permanently rising by 1 meter.
* Chapter 1092: Luffy's rematch with Admiral Kizaru unfortunately results in the destruction of Vegaforce-01, which was vital to the Straw Hats' plan to escape Egghead. Just as Kizaru reaches Dr. Vegapunk and prepares to kill him without delay, Luffy suddenly goes Gear 5 and intervenes. But the most interesting event in this chapter happens as an effect of Gear 5's Drums of Liberation: after 200 years, the long-dormant Iron Giant -- whose source of energy was a mystery that drove Vegapunk's research of the Void Century -- has finally reactivated!
* Chapter 1094: Saint Jaygarcia Saturn makes landfall on Egghead island, revealing himself to be a Mythical Zoan user in the process, taking the form of a monster that resembles an ushi-oni.
* Chapter 1095: Kuma's race is revealed to be the Buccaneer tribe, a group of people who committed a crime against the world countless years ago. In addition, during Kuma's flashback, it's revealed that he was present on God Valley 38 years ago, implying that he has a connection to the God Valley Incident, and it's shown that Emporio Ivankov was a slave alongside Kuma before they joined the Revolutionary Army.
* Chapter 1096: We finally learn most of what happened during the God Valley Incident. Ginny managed to leak information about the slave-hunting contest to the outside world, which leads to the Rocks Pirates, the Roger Pirates, and the Marines colliding and leading to Garp & Roger teaming up against Rocks. In the process, Kuma and Ivankov escape with the Devil Fruits that would one day be eaten by Kuma and Kaido. It's also revealed that Elder Nyon from Amazon Lily and Streusen were also members of the Rocks Pirates in the past.
* Chapter 1097: While fighting to free Sorbet Kingdom from its tyrannical ruler, Dragon reveals that he was once a Marine who left the organization because of their differing views on justice.
* Chapter 1098: Ginny was abducted by the Celestial Dragons to become their slave and would give birth to Jewelry Bonney. After learning that Ginny was affected with the Sapphire Scales disease, the Celestial Dragons left her to die and Kuma would raise the young Bonney in Ginny's place.
* Chapter 1099: Bonney's Devil Fruit is finally given its name, the Age-Age Fruit, and Kuma takes her to see Dr. Vegapunk to cure her of the Sapphire Scales in exchange for Kuma donating his blood to create what would eventually become the Pacifistas.
* Chapter 1100: It is revealed the reason Kuma became a Warlord and had his free will removed is because Jaygarcia Saturn amended the deal. It is also revealed Kuma's first mission as a Warlord takes him to the East Blue, just right as Luffy is starting his adventure in the very same sea.
* Chapter 1103: Saturn reveals that he was the one behind Ginny's Sapphire Scales disease, just as Kuma arrives at Egghead, blocks an attack meant to kill Bonney and prepares to attack Saturn with Haki.
* 1104: Vegapunk reveals he outplayed Saturn by installing a shutdown mechanism that caused Kuma to run on pure instinct, while Saturn issues a Buster Call on Egghead.
* Chapter 1106: Vegapunk reveals that he was able to sneak an even higher level into the Pacifista command hierarchy than the Five Elders, applicable to all Pacifista that are Kuma, which Saturn failed to discover. The person who actually has ultimate control of them is Bonney, who orders all of the Pacifista to turn on the Marines and help her and the Straw Hats escape. Saturn responds to this by stabbing Vegapunk through the heart. And at the end of the chapter, Dorry and Broggy lead the Giant Warrior Pirates to attack the Marine fleet that was bombarding Egghead, fully aware that Luffy is the Sun God Nika.
* Chapter 1107: As the Giant Warrior Pirates and the Pacifistas continue their rampage, Bonney finally realizes that Luffy is the Sun God Nika, Luffy absolutely clobbers Saturn, and Sanji shows that he's now fast and strong enough to block Kizaru's lasers with a kick. But bigger than all of that, the Blackbeard Pirates make their move. Catarina Devon touches the fallen Saturn after Luffy knocks him through the floor, giving her the ability to copy his appearance (and by extension, to control Pacifistas and Seraphim). And then Caribou runs up to Devon and Van Augur and asks to join their crew...meaning that Blackbeard will learn the locations of 2 of the 3 Ancient Weapons.
* Chapter 1108: Caribou explicitly offers to share what he knows about Poseidon and Pluton. The Stella comes very close to death, starting a recording about the truth about the world.
* Chapter 1109: Saturn summons the other Four Elders on Egghead.
* Chapter 1110: The other four Elders, summoned by Saturn, arrive on Egghead and immediately assume monstrous, colossal beast forms that are unlike any other type of Mythical Zoan we've seen thus far. On top of their gargantuan Kaiju size, they also lack the traditional reveal of their Devil Fruits' full names when introduced, instead showing only their given names and the identity of the creature they have transformed into, implying that they may not even be Devil Fruit users at all, and merely choose to appear in AFormYouAreComfortableWith unless forced to take action.
