''Grojband'' is a [[CanadianSeries Canadian]] animated music/comedy series produced by Creator/FreshTV (of ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'' and ''WesternAnimation/{{Sixteen}}'' fame) and the indie animation company Neptoon Studios. It was created by the founders of Neptoon Studios, the Canadian animation duo Todd Kauffman and Mark Thornton, who were previously known for working on ''Total Drama'''s first two seasons, as well as ''WesternAnimation/{{Sidekick}}'' (with ''Total Drama'' and ''6teen'' creators and Fresh TV founders Jennifer Pertsch and Tom [=McGillis=] serving as executive producers for the show).

Quirky and charismatic 13-year-old Corey Riffin starts a GarageBand with his best friends, the grounded tomboy Laney Penn and zany non-identical twin brothers Kin and Kon Kujira. However, the newly founded [[MyspeldRokband Grojband]] has a problem: Corey's not good at coming up with lyrics. He just can't think of anything songworthy to write... that is until he finds the SecretDiary of his bratty 16-year-old BigSisterBully Trina and realizes that her handwritten teenage angst is a goldmine of songwriting inspiration!

And so begins the series' formula. In nearly every episode, Corey and his band strike a new musical gig and must create the perfect song that will blow the socks off their audience and help them climb up the ladder to RockAndRoll stardom. However, Trina utterly loathes her little brother's garage band and will stop at nothing to crush their dreams of becoming the greatest band in history. But no matter what challenges Grojband encounters, nothing's going to stop Corey and his friends from doing what they always do best OncePerEpisode: A) rile up Trina's emotions enough for her to go into "Diary Mode" so she can write down her thoughts; and B) "secretly" take inspiration from Trina's brand-new diary entry to craft the lyrics for an awesome new tune that will truly rock and roll.

''Grojband'' made its world debut on June 10, 2013 on Creator/CartoonNetwork in the United States, being one of many Canadian imports prominent on the channel at the time. The show then came to Canada on Creator/{{Teletoon}} on September 5, 2013, but by that time, it had already finished airing its first 13 half-hours of episodes in the States. Afterwards, the series suffered from [[ScrewedByTheNetwork some wonky scheduling]], with the second half of the first season being delayed for nearly 2 years. The remaining episodes eventually arrived on February 22, 2015 on Creator/{{Boomerang}} in the States, with Teletoon airing them a month later. Shortly afterwards however, the series' cancellation was announced, and [[ShortRunners at only 26 episodes]], ''Grojband'' stands as Fresh TV's shortest-lived standalone series. While the show never achieved the same levels of success or popularity that ''Total Drama'' or ''6teen'' did during its brief life, this wild and offbeat little show nonetheless maintains an immensely passionate cult following.

[[folder:A-E]]
* AbductionIsLove: Kate and Allie kidnapped Corey and chained him up in their closet in "Group Hug". There, they pampered him by doing this such as feeding him blueberry waffles, brushing his hair, giving him aromatherapy, and "letting all his friends join him."
* AcCENTUponTheWrongSylLABle: G'ORB of The Orb Experience speaks in this manner.
* AccidentalMurder: Statue Steve in "Myme Disease" once the town realized that he really was a statue performer all along.
* {{Acrofatic}}: Despite his burly form, Kon is a pretty nimble guy.
* TheAce: Corey Riffin is a master of coming up with crazy plans and playing music all while keeping his cool. Heck, the only thing he isn't good at is coming up with lyrics.
* ActuallyPrettyFunny: Corey's response to the Blue Star of Rocklympus attacking the Newmans.
-->''(chuckles)'' "Okay, that was fine, only because I hate the Newmans."
* AIIsACrapshoot: "Helmet" has the eponymous device, which Trina sabotages into becoming a rampaging robot obsessed with perfection.
* AirGuitar: Corey plays one in the song featured in the episode "Myme Disease".
* AlmostKiss: A RunningGag that involves Trina and Nick Mallory.
* AllLoveIsUnrequited:
** Nick Mallory seems to know that Trina has a crush on him. He's just not interested.
** Laney is in love with Corey, but not only does [[ObliviousToLove he not notice]], it's often implied that he [[OneOfTheBoys sees Laney is a guy]]. However, as the series progresses, the whole "calling Laney a boy" thing is dropped and it becomes increasingly implied that Corey actually has a mutual crush on Laney.
* AllMythsAreTrue: Whenever Kin and Kon tell a legend from Rock Lore, they will invariably be true. This is subverted in "Love in a Nethervator" though, where the myth of the episode is only partially true.
* TheAllSolvingHammer: Corey's answer to EVERYTHING is music. Laney addresses this in "Rockersize" when the band has to deal with three hulking grannies; she states that this time lyrics wouldn't be any help and [[OnlySaneMan what they needed was a tank]]. However, since this is a series themed around ThePowerOfRock, Corey's answer is almost always the correct one.
* AllThereInTheManual: The show's development blog on [[https://grojband.blogspot.com/ Blogspot]] has official bios that have revealed a lot of major character details never stated in the show.
** Notably, the surnames of Laney, Kin, Kon, Mina, and the Newmans are never actually given in the show; all of them have only ever been mentioned in the characters' official bios. Likewise, the fact that Mina once known as Bernadette until Trina made her change it so their names would rhyme is never mentioned in the show.
** Trina and Corey are both extremely popular in their respective grades, especially with [[ChickMagnet the opposite gender]] in the latter's case.
** Laney's crush on Corey comes from [[SarcasticDevotee her great faith in his ability to reach his dreams of musical stardom]], with her DeadpanSnarker tendencies being [[{{Tsundere}} an attempt to mask her feelings for him]]. However, she secretly believes that Corey will ultimately never return her affections.
*** Although she claims she hates girly things, Laney is a closet GirlyGirl and her bedroom is full of girly things. She forbids her friends from entering her room in fear of being exposed.[[note]]This is actually heavily implied in the show proper, but never touched upon. The few shots we get of Laney's room reveal stuffed animals and a lot of pink; Trina is also seen catching her wearing a unicorn costume in "Grin Reaper".[[/note]]
** Kin and Kon were born ConjoinedTwins via a cesarean.[[note]]This is alluded to in the show when Kon shows Corey his "back nipples" in "Indie Road Rager", which according to Todd Kauffman, were actually Kin's nipples before the twins were separated.[[/note]]
*** Kin and Kon constantly insist to others that they are identical twins (although no one believes them). The two also claim to have a secret twin language and to be able to finish each other's sentences, but they constantly botch any attempts at them.
*** Kin is an expert in pyrotechnics, while Kon's ditzy qualities are actually a case of ObfuscatingStupidity.
** Nick Mallory is the captain of the school football team and a straight-A student. He sits between Mina and Trina in their homeroom at school.
*** Nick Mallory is fully aware of Trina's crush on him, and while he has no romantic interest in her, he does find her mental and emotional instability to be endlessly fascinating.
** Mayor Mellow is also the head of the Peaceville's post office and the chief of the police (in fact, he wields every position of authority in the town). He also has a speaker system built in to Peaceville to address everyone.
*** Mayor Mellow opposes Grojband because he fears that the band achieving musical fame and success will result in Peaceville getting flooded with powerful money-seeking businesses and individuals interested in capitalizing on the town, thus losing Peaceville's peaceful nature.
* AlliterativeName:
** Mina's full name was [[AllThereInTheManual Bernadette Beff]] until Trina demanded she legally change her first name so that their names would rhyme.
** Kin and Kon Kujira and their gender opposites Kim and Konnie Kagami.
** Mayor Mellow, although that's because we never get to know his first name.
* AlphaBitch: Trina is the most popular girl in her grade and poses an authoritarian grip over it, complete with her own spineless follower in Mina. Carrie is also one as well, being the manipulative leader of her own band, The Newmans.
* AmazingFreakingGrace: Whenever Corey makes a motivational speech, he has the rest of the band hum that tune. Lampshaded in "Creepaway Camp".
-->(Blade feels bad about himself and he's crying)\
'''Corey:''' "Aw, come on Blade don't be like that. Guys, motivational humming."\
(Kin, Kon, and Laney start humming as Corey motivated Blade)
* AndKnowingIsHalfTheBattle: {{Spoof|Aesop}}ed with Corey's monologues at the end of every episode.
* AnimateInanimateObject: In "It's in the Card" when Mayor Mellow's framed picture of his mother doesn't like his Valentine's Day card, she disappears offscreen and is then seen getting on a bus.
* AnnoyingYoungerSibling: Corey is this to Trina, as he drives his older sister crazy so that he can acquire the lyrical inspiration he needs from her diary entries. However, more often than not, Trina is the one to antagonize Corey first and is much nastier to him than Corey is to her.
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: In "Space Jammin", Kon mentions that he told The Orb Experience who Trina was, where she was, and gave them his recipe for boysenberry pie.
* AsianAndNerdy: Kin, who is of Japanese descent and is TheSmartGuy of Grojband (albeit of the DitzyGenius variety).
* AssholeVictim: Trina (on more than one occasion with hilarious results) including but not limited to: being trampolined into a trash can, thrown into a cage at the zoo, becoming Mina's personal ButtMonkey for an episode, and even having her face turned into a pig. Not to mention the fact that the whole show is about Grojband ruining her life for their music - which would be a horrible thing if it wasn't for the fact that Trina is an [[HateSink incredibly hateable]] {{Jerkass}} who always deserves what she gets.
* AssumedWin: In "Helmet", when Mayor Mellow announces the winner of the contest, Trina (who had the contest rigged) doesn't even wait for him to say the last name.
* TheAssimilator: Cyborg Trina from "Ahead of Our Own Tone", who has taken over Peaceville using a brain implant.
* AstralFinale: The finale of the show, “Hear us Rock!”, has the band go into space and stop a meteor from hitting earth.
* AuthorAppeal: Why the show exists actually. Todd Kauffman has said that his inspiration for the show was simply that he had always wanted to make a cartoon about a garage band. And while he really liked the idea, for the longest time he had no idea how to make it unique and interesting... until he decided the main character should get the inspiration for their songs from his sister's diary. And when he pitched it to Creator/FreshTV, they absolutely loved that idea, and the rest is history as they say.
* AutoTune: Brutally spoofed in "Helmet", where Kin builds an autotuning helmet to hide Corey's voice cracks, only for everything to go horribly wrong.
* AwLookTheyReallyDoLoveEachOther: Subverted between Corey and Trina most of the time. In "Wish Upon a Jug", one of the genies even says they'll eventually remember that they love each other because "they're family" only to be proven wrong shortly after. That said, WordOfGod has it that the trope still holds true, and thus it does get played straight on occasion:
** In "Wish Upon A Jug", Corey wishes they never met the genies, even though at that time the only one who benefited from this wish was Trina. Also, he used a wish to hug her, which, while done to piss her off, one would think out of the question for him if he truly hated her.
** In "Dreamreaver", Katrina obviously loves Corey, and as the personification of Trina's locked away good side, this would mean so does Trina (if not now, then at least at some point before the show). Corey, previously more concerned about his lyrics, shows genuine remorse for putting Trina in the situation she's in now after seeing this and is apologetic when he confesses the truth to her later.
** There are also the few times Corey makes Trina go into Happy Diary Mode, indicating that he doesn't want to enrage her all the time.
** In "Who Are You" when the gang turn Hipster Corey into Caring Corey, he becomes overprotective and concerned with his band's safety so he bubble wraps them and posts them with damage insurance, but later he brings Nick Mallory to Trina actually saying he loved his sister and wanted her to be happy.
** The trope is played dead straight with Trina and Mina on a few occasions, such as in "Math of Kon", where the two display a genuine friendship when Trina is in her Trigonometrina identity.
** Despite Nick Mallory's romantic disinterest in Trina, he occasionally displays genuine care for her. One example of this is in "Who Are You", wherein he admits that he likes her for who she is (even if the hipsters don't).
* BadFuture: In "Ahead of Our Own Tone" where Cell-borgs run amuck, Cyborg Trina is the EvilOverlord, and the reason why Kin grew a beard is because he "went a little nuts!"
* TheBadGuyWins[=/=]KarmaHoudini:
** There are a few times Trina gets what she wants with no comeuppance, like in "Helmet" when she rigged a raffle to win a giant chocolate diamond.
** "Six Strings of Evil" frees Corey from the Blue Star of Rocklympus but [[spoiler:the town ends up flooding, and the Blue Star, now in the form of a music box, plans on continuing its rampage at the end with the aid of Trina.]]
** In "Girl Fest" Laney delivers a Harsh TakeThat in the form of a song to Candy Jams in an attempt to out her as a fake. Unfortunately for Laney, this plan fails, and the people still give Candy their full support.
** The Groupies suffer no consequences at all for kidnapping Grojband and keeping them hostage in "Group Hug". [[spoiler:Unless you count them getting tackled by an angry Mina as comeuppance for kidnapping Trina.]]
** Played completely straight in "Hear Us Rock!" when Trina manages to sabotage Grojband's plan to save the world from the asteroid. Corey even acknowledges it, to the horror of his friends. [[spoiler:However, things turn around when Mina stands up to Trina and gives Grojband what they need to save the day.]]
--> '''Corey''': You win, Trina.
* BadassAdorable: Grojband themselves - a gang of 13-year-old kids with big dreams who deal with all sorts of insane things on a regular basis and overcome their problems with nothing except their collective friendship and ThePowerOfRock.
* BattleOfTheBands: No surprise here that Grojband frequently engage in these, typically against The Newmans, as seen in "Rock the House".
* BeautyIsNeverTarnished:
** A rare male example. In "Smash Up Terby" when Trina barfs on a ride turned up to beyond full speed, Nick is the only one who comes out completely clean.
** Averted with Laney, who gets covered in dirt and has messy hair after an explosion occurs in "Helmet".
** Invoked by Trina in "[[FantasticVoyagePlot Inn Err Face]]". Kin and Kon have to get out of Trina's body before their shrinking wears off. The band tries to make Trina sweat them out and then drool them out, but she adamantly refuses to do either one because they are "for farmers", even making a bead of sweat ''go back into her skin'' with a DeathGlare.
* BeleagueredAssistant: Mina serves as one to Trina, doing all her dirty work due to being too spineless to stand up to [[BadBoss Trina]]'s cruel and abusive personality.
* BerserkButton:
** Trina has way too many to count, all of which make her go into Diary Mode and help Grojband craft the lyrics to their songs.
** Laney really hates that everyone keeps thinking she is a guy. In the episode "No Strings Attached", she gets a male puppet (which is dressed exactly like her but with shorter hair, no hair clip, a five o'clock shadow and a long body) and what do the other members of Grojband do when Laney comments on this? [[ElephantInTheLivingRoom Act like it's normal]]. Kin even says it's the spitting image of her.
*** Another one for Laney: "Sorry Core, [Trina] dissed the band! Nobody disses the band."
** Corey's known for keeping his cool 99% of the time, but he hates elevator music so much that he got VERY angry after listening to it for a long time.
** Another for Corey is having his musical dreams stolen from him, whether it be Trina beating him at music and creating a hit song (as seen in "Duelling Buttons", where he ALMOST went into his own version of Diary Mode) or Trina wishing away his ability to play music (as seen in "Wish Upon a Jug", which led to one of the few times in the show he became outright hostile towards Trina)
* BetterThanABareBulb: The show revels in this type of humor, with characters (and sometimes even the Wicked Cool Transitions) going out of their way to point out how bizarre, unlikely or convenient a situation is.
* BigBad: Trina Riffin is the series' overall antagonist and constantly trying to find ways to ruin Grojband's quest for musical fame or her brother's life.
* BigBadEnsemble: Several episodes feature Trina teaming up with each other major antagonists, such as the Blue Star of Rocklympus in "Six Strings of Evil" (although it happens only at the end of the episode, so nothing comes out of it) and The Orb Experience in "Hear Us Rock!"
* BigDamPlot: "Six Strings of Evil" sees the Blue Star of Rocklympus attempt to burst Peaceville Dam to flood the town.
* TheBigDamnKiss: [[spoiler:Between Corey and Laney, combined with AccidentalKiss, in "Curse of the Metrognome"]].
* BigEater: Kon's large appetite is often highlighted for comedy, although it's not a defining trait of his character.
* BigfootSasquatchAndYeti: A saxophone-playing Bigfoot appears in the episode "Saxsquatch", and joins Grojband in their jamming for the episode's song.
* TheBigGuy: Kon is this for Grojband, being the main source of muscle in their {{Zany Scheme}}s.
* BigLippedAlligatorMoment: Apparently Trina's diary moments are an in-universe example of these to anyone not in Grojband. Mina lampshades this after she had one due to a PersonalitySwap.
-->'''Mina:''' "What was that? I feel so overdramatic."
* BigRedButton: In "Helmet", Kin built the eponymous robotic helmet with one, and he warns Corey not to press it. After hearing a golden opportunity to sabotage the band presenting itself, Trina pushes said button, causing the helmet to go rogue. When Laney asks [[LampshadeHanging why he would even build the helmet with a button that turns it evil]], Kin just [[NonAnswer rolls his eyes in annoyance]].
* BigSisterBully: Trina to Corey. She loathes her brother and does anything she can to ruin his life, even if it means hurting him.
* BlackBeadEyes: Kin, his DistaffCounterpart Kim, and Mina have these under their glasses.
* BlandNameProduct:
** [[Website/{{Twitter}} Bleater]], complete with a bleating goat head logo.
** Parodied in "Rockersize" in a brief exchange between Corey and Barney.
-->'''Corey:''' Barney, you need to play a different kind of music.\
'''Barney:''' I can't! That's the only song on my non-brand name music player.
* BlatantLies: In "No Strings Attached", Mina sees Trina drinking a chocolate milk and asks if she can have one. Trina finishes it and says there are no more. Then she pulls out another one...
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead:
** For Grojband and their allies: Allie (Blonde), Kate (Brunette), and Laney (Redhead).
** For the Newmans: the Kagami sisters (Konnie (Blonde) and Kim (Brunette)), and Lenny (Redhead).
* BottleEpisode: In the episode "Pox and Roll", Grojband, Trina, Mina, and the students of Elementary High all get chicken pox while in the garage, so Mayor Mellow has them all quarantined inside of a giant bubble for eight days. The entire episode is about Corey and Laney trying to entertain the guests and keep them happy there, with a minor side plot about Kin and Kon coming up with escape plans and failing every time.
* BrainsAndBrawn: Although both equally insane, Kin is the Brains to Kon's Brawn in Grojband.
* BrattyTeenageDaughter: Trina has this in spades. Her over-the-top teenage angst is a goldmine of lyrical inspiration for Grojband.
* BreadEggsBreadedEggs:
** In "No Strings Attached".
-->'''Captain Carney:''' They don't look good folks. Of course I've seen worse in the Navy. Sharks, Sailor Guts, Sharks puking up Sailor Guts. [[YouDoNotWantToKnow But you kids don't need that story]].\
'''Kin and Kon:''' Aww.
** Also in "Beep Bop A Loofah" when Kin and Kon are making huge amounts of money selling air fresheners. It was even continued and expanded later in the episode when they sell their profits for magic beans.
-->'''Kon:''' We could buy a bike!\
'''Kin:''' Or a yacht!\
'''Kon:''' Or a bike yacht!\
''(later)''\
'''Kin:''' They [magic beans] could grow anything!\
'''Kon:''' Even A BIKE YACHT PLANT!!!\
(Cut to a yacht with bicycle wheels that is on top of a giant stem growing out of a flower pot)
* BrickJoke: Throughout the episode "Cloudy with a Chance of Malt Balls", Kin and/or Kon, whenever someone asks who (or what) caused something or whenever Corey has a plan, respond with, "Our future selves?" or "Does it involve our future selves?". Guess who fixes the drive-in theater's lighting and projector for them at the end of the episode?
* BorrowedCatchphrase:
** "Zoohouse Rock" has a running gag of Kin stealing everyone's catchphrases, including Corey's "I've got a crazy plan that might work", Laney's "But wherever will find lyrics?" and even Corey's "Thanks for coming out everyone", where he shoves Corey out of the way.
** Lampshaded with one Wicked Cool Transition from the episode being called "Stolen Line Transition" (with the transition itself featuring Corey glaring at a smug Kin).
* BrokenPedestal: In "Girl Fest", Laney is devastated when she finds out supposed punk girl Candy Jams is just a typical girly girl using the punk image to sell cosmetics and channels her rage in the form of the episode's song "You're So Untrue".
* BrokenTears: Trina in "Inn Err Face" when she comes to the realization that she might have to deal with her brother forever.
* BuccaneerBroadcaster: Grojband set up a pirate radio station in "On the Air and Out to Sea" and end up getting shanghaied on to an actual pirate ship.
* BurningWithAnger: Trina Riffin whenever she writes in her diary in anger mode (which is very often). Laney also does this on occasion.
* ButtMonkey:
** Trina to the band [[LaserGuidedKarma (although she has it coming the overwhelming majority of the time)]] while Mina is to Trina (and the show in general).
** Within Grojband, Kon is the main butt monkey of the group as he tends to get hurt the most frequently of them all (especially when Kin's inventions are involved) and is even physically abused by Laney on many occasions.
** [[NobodyLovesTheBassist Laney]] was this in early episodes, with numerous jokes being made about her appearance at her expense and other characters getting on her nerves.
* CainAndAbel: Corey and Trina, though it's mostly on Trina's side.
* CallAndResponseSong: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TxF4GWckElY "Quiet Noise"]] from "Myme Disease" is one of these, with Corey using this to save his friends from a gang of {{Enemy Mime}}s.
* CaptainColorbeard: Parodied. One of Captain Tighty Whitey's pirate crew is the clean shaven Shavenbeard.
* CardboardPal: When the band splits up in "It's In the Card", Corey compensates by making a fake band out of junk he finds in the garage and pretending they're the new Grojband.
* CastingGag: Creator/MeganFahlenbock as the voice of the fraudulent Goth wannabe and faux-feminist Candy Jams in "Girl Fest" is quite ironic given her best known role is [[WesternAnimation/TotalDrama a genuine Goth girl with a fiercely independent demeanor]].
* CatchPhrase: Corey ends each episode with "Thanks for coming out, everyone!" and closing a garage door he pulls out of nowhere. He'll also sometimes talk of "a crazy plan that just might work." He even adds "We have liftoff!" on some of the episodes where Trina writes her diary in anger mode.
* CatsAreMean: Averted with Mina's cat, Dr. Purrs, who is quite harmless. Subverted with Wheelie from "The Snuffles with Snarffles", who only turns mean out of jealousy and becomes nicer in the end.
* CatUpATree: In "Super Zeroes", Trina throws Mina's cat, Dr. Purrs, up one in order to prove that Corey's "Justice Band" are not heroes.
* ChairReveal: Done by Trina and Wheelie the Cat in "The Snuffles with Snarffles".
-->'''Corey:''' Creepiest. Reveal. Ever.
* CharacterDevelopment: While not a series with a heavy overarching plot, there definitely is some from Grojband in the second half of the series. Most prominently:
** Corey doesn't address Laney as a boy as much and treats her more like a lady, complete with a few hints that he is aware of her feelings for him and may even share them.
** Ever since the episode "Girl Fest", Laney has begun lashing out more at Corey and being a bit more rebellious against his plans.
* CheatersNeverProsper: Averted in "Helmet". Trina suffers no repercussions for rigging the contest and her sheer joy from her success becomes the basis for the lyrics of the episode's song.
* ChekhovsGun: Trina's habit of [[OpinionFlipFlop changing her opinion depending on what Nick Mallory thinks]] is used against her in "Hear Us Rock!", helping Grojband craft the song of the episode and helping Trina gain the courage to finally tell Nick Mallory up close and personal that she loves him.
* CherubicChoir: Whenever Corey grabs Trina's diary after Trina completes Diary Mode, or the diary lands somewhere within Corey's reach, it is accompanied by angelic singing.
* ChickMagnet:
** Nick Mallory is always surrounded by girls who find him attractive, Trina most of all.
** Corey is stated to be this by WordOfGod, but in the series proper, the only girls who obsess over him are Laney and the Groupies.
* ChickenpoxEpisode: In the episode "Pox n' Roll", Corey catches the chickenpox and decides to throw a literal pox party (as in a chickenpox-themed party) for his band to play at. However, Trina gets Mayor Mellow to quarantine everyone, leaving Grojband to figure out how to escape and how to keep the trapped guests happy while at it.
* ChildhoodFriends: Trina and Mina have been friends since kindergarten, while Corey and Laney have been friends long before they even had the idea of forming Grojband.
* {{Chupacabra}}: Parodied with the child-eating sewer monster El Chewpoocaca.
* {{Cliffhanger}}:
** "Dreamreaver" ends the first half on such. Lampshaded by Laney.
-->"Continued?! You mean we're stuck in Trina's head [[NoFourthWall for another episode]]?!"
** "Hear Us Rock!" also ends the first half of the episode on such when it turns out the world really is going to come to an end.
* CloseEnoughTimeline: At the end of "Ahead of Our Own Tone", the band decides [[spoiler:not to build a new time machine so Corey, Laney and Kon can go back, since a year isn't that long and they probably don't want to risk messing with time again.]]
* CloudCuckoolander: All members of Grojband, except [[OnlySaneWoman Laney]]. Kin and Kon are both defined by their shared wackiness, while Corey's brain practically runs on InsaneTrollLogic.
* CloudcuckoolandersMinder: Laney is this to Grojband, especially Corey. It's her job to make sure their {{Zany Scheme}}s actually do work and then pull her friends back to earth when they go too far.
* ColourCodedForYourConvenience: The background color for whenever Trina goes diary depends on the emotion she feels:
** Anger/Fear: Red
** Love/Happiness: Pink/Purple
** Sadness: Blue
* ComicallyMissingThePoint:
** In "Smash Up Terby" when Nick is buying a ticket to the carnival, Trina comes along with Mina and says "Make that three!" Nick misunderstands what she meant and [[IllTakeTwoBeersToo buys three tickets for himself, saving the other two for later]].
** In "Space Jammin'", The Orb Experience learn that Corey gets the lyrics to his songs from Trina's diary and try to do the same, but read an entry verbatim instead of adapting it into lyrics like Corey does.
* CompanionCube: Mayor Mellow always carries a picture of his deceased mother with him and sometimes has conversations with it.
* CompanyCrossReferences: The skull on Corey's hat (that also appears as Grojband's symbol in general) is also present in Creator/FreshTV's most famous animated series ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'', where it's visible on Duncan's shirt.
* ConjoinedTwins: Kin and Kon were born as this. In fact, Kon still has Kin's nipples on his back, as Corey finds out in "Indie Road Rager".
* ContrivedCoincidence: Lampshaded in "Wish Upon a Jug" when they happen to find a second genie in the same pile of jugs.
-->'''Corey:''' Finding one genie should have been impossible too. Roll with it, Lanes.
* CoolBigSis: Mina is this to Carrie, and several episodes imply Trina used to be this to Corey.
* CrazyEnoughToWork: As Corey likes to say, "I've got a crazy plan that just might work". And they usually do, surprisingly.
* CreatorCameo: Series co-creator Todd Kauffman cameos in "The Bandidate" as the voice of the anthropomorphic bill featured in Kin and Kon's ''WesternAnimation/SchoolhouseRock'' parody scene.
* CreatorThumbprint: The skull on Corey's beanie appears in several other cartoons that series co-creator Todd Kauffman has worked on, including ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'' (on Duncan's shirt), ''WesternAnimation/{{Sidekick}}'' (on Eric Needles' shirt), and ''WesternAnimation/{{Looped}}'' (on the shirt of Jesse the bully).
* CropCircles: In "Space Jammin'", Grojband accidentally creates one when a malfunctioning crop harvester runs rampant in the corn field that they wanted to clear for a concert. It turns to be a message challenging The Orb Experience to a battle of the bands.
* CrossdressingVoices: [[DistaffCounterpart The Newmans]] are voiced by the same voice actors as Grojband's members.
* CurseCutShort: During the song in "Beep Bop a Loofah", Corey was about to say "Ass" until Laney, Kin, and Kon cut him off, singing another rhyming word that meant the same thing.
-->'''Corey:''' If it's a smell test that you wanna pass, scrub your feet, wash your pits, and don't forget your-\
'''Kin, Kon, and Laney:''' Gluteus Max!
* CutenessProximity:
** Laney's reaction to Blade Stabbington's pet rat Biteface.
** In "A Knight to Remember", she has this reaction to a big dog that licks her face.
** In "The Snuffles with Snarffles", Trina has this reaction to Wheelie while everyone else has this reaction to Snarffles.
* CyberneticsEatYourSoul: As seen in "Ahead of Our Own Tone". It's the result of getting a brain implant, although it has more of a brainwashing effect.
* {{Cyborg}}: Trina gets turned into one after having her brain get an implant for a good chunk of "Ahead of Our Own Tone".
* DartboardOfHate: Trina throws knitting needles at a picture of [[AnnoyingYoungerSibling Corey]] on a dartboard in the episode "Rock the House".
* DelusionsOfDoghood: In "Hair Today, Kon Tomorrow", Kon starts believing he is a dog after [[NeverTrustAHairTonic a hair tonic causes him to be covered in hair]] and he receives a blow to the head.
* DenserAndWackier: Compared to Creator/FreshTV's previous animated shows. Whereas ''WesternAnimation/{{Sixteen}}'', ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'', and ''WesternAnimation/{{Stoked}}'' were relatively grounded teen comedies (although TD less so with each season), ''Grojband'' features much more outlandish plots, NoFourthWall, a lot of SurrealHumor, and much higher energy.
* DetonationMoon: Corey wishes there was no moon so that Trina would never share that "moonlight kiss" with Nick Mallory in "Wish Upon a Jug".
* DidntThinkThisThrough: There are moments in which a solution only worsens the given situation.
* DisneyCreaturesOfTheFarce: In a few episodes like "Smash Up Terby" and "Monster of Rock", some of these surround Corey when he delivers his mock lesson of the day.
* DisguisedInDrag: In "Rockersize", Grojband dresses up as old ladies to convince some [[NiceJobBreakingItHero hulking, violent grannies who they accidentally created]] to calm back down.
* DistaffCounterpart: The Newmans are {{gender flip}}ped versions of Grojband. Kin even lampshades it in their debut episode "Creepaway Camp", calling them "our doppelganger gender opposites".
* DoItYourselfThemeTune: The show's theme song is sung entirely by Corey himself.
* {{Doppelganger}}: Grojband have had several of these over the series, such as [[GenderFlip The Newmans]], [[SimilarSquad The Orb Experience]], and [[EvilKnockoff Mrojband (Mirage Band)]].
* DownerEnding: "Hologroj" ends with Trina losing her sanity and believing nothing is real and the town of Peaceville believes Corey, Laney, Kin and Kon are dead, and the real Grojband is a cover band. [[spoiler:However, this is never brought again, so it seems the writers pressed the ResetButton.]]
-->'''Kate and Allie:''' We love you, Grojband cover band!
* TheDragon: Mina, but of the MinionWithAnFInEvil variety.
* DrivesLikeCrazy: When Trina's behind the wheel, she tends to have some road rage.
* DreadfulMusician: Corey, but only whenever he's trying to come up with lyrics.
* DumbAndDrummer: Kon is the drummer of Grojband and probably its least intelligent member (although he's more of a GeniusDitz than a full-on Ditz).
* DumbBlonde: Konnie, although WordOfGod says that she dyes her hair.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: In "Creepaway Camp" (the third episode of the series produced and the character's debut), Carrie has breasts -- something she lacks in all her appearances afterwards.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: The writers were clearly still trying to figure out some stuff in the beginning, as the pilot ("Smash Up Terby"), as well as many episodes produced early on (like "Monster of Rock", "Creepaway Camp", "Queen Bee", "Zoohouse Rock", and "One-Plant Band"), contain elements that are slowly dropped or downplayed as the series progressed.
** The pilot is the ONLY instance where Trina doesn't immediately go diary after getting upset, as well as having Mina openly crush on Nick Mallory in front of Trina.
** The early episodes have more grossout jokes and ToiletHumor (mainly from Kon) than the later ones.
** Laney's status as the ButtMonkey and NoRespectGuy of the band (because NobodyLovesTheBassist) is much more pronounced in early episodes, as is the RunningGag of people misgendering her (which was almost entirely abandoned in the second half of the show) and Corey's obliviousness to her crush on him (which eventually develops more into WillTheyOrWontThey ShipTease).
** Corey's catchphrase "I have a crazy plan that just might work" and habit of creating overly long names for his {{Zany Scheme}}s are used very prominently in early episodes, but both completely vanish from the show later on.
** There was a RunningGag of Grojband trying to do a unity chant but completely failing it in a few early episodes that never appears again afterwards.
** Similarly, several early episodes had Corey's Final Thoughts being accompanied by DisneyCreaturesOfTheFarce coming to listen to him, but the gag is completely dropped after a few episodes.
** Trina's character is much less evil in the first few episodes of the series compared to the later installments, instead simply being a typically bossy and dramatic teenage girl rather than the psychopathic HateSink she quickly developed into.
** Episode plots early on were usually about Corey and his friends trying to get diary lyrics from Trina for their gig of the week (like "Smash Up Terby", "Queen Bee", and "Creepaway Camp"). As the series developed, these types of plotlines were dropped in favor of a broader range of conflicts, with the lyrics issue typically only being addressed in the final act.
* EasyAmnesia: Corey in the episode "Who Are You", as a result of using an invention from Kin that increases intelligence when one walks forwards to instead walk backwards until his mind's totally empty and he doesn't care about anything.
* ElevatorButtonsMash: Kon does this in the episode "Love in a Nethervator".
-->'''Kon:''' "Hey, if we're riding this thing to our fiery deaths, I wanna have fun."
* EnemyMime: When the town's favorite statue (who was actually a statue performer) is taken down in "Myme Disease", Grojband decides to take the prime performance spot left behind, only for a dispute to erupt between them and a group of mimes over the busking space.
* EpicFail:
** "Helmet" has Kin giving the eponymous autotuning helmet a big red button that turns it evil. The rest of Grojband call him out on how stupid of an idea it was.
** In "Space Jammin", instead of using Trina's diary entries as inspiration for lyrics, The Orb Experience literally sings one of them word for word. This ends up revealing Trina's fears that Nick Mallory likes Mina more than her and causing her to go Diary Mode, which consequently allows Grojband to completely thrash the Orbs with their own song "My Secret is Out".
** In "Queen Bee", after Trina insults the band, Laney uses her rage to fuel her and perfectly destroys her target. Trina tries to one-up her and ends up hitting everything around her EXCEPT the target.
* EpisodeOfTheDead: "Dance of the Dead". When lightning striking a cursed amp combines with Corey's terrible non-diary lyrics on Halloween night, Grojband's music causes zombies to erupt from their graves and attack their school's Halloween dance.
* EvenTheSubtitlerIsStumped: In "All You Need is Cake", when Corey starts to tell the moral of the story like he does at every episode, he starts stuffing his face with cake in the process. Subtitles show up on screen to translate, but quickly just turn all into "Omm nom nom nom omm nom nom."
* EveryEpisodeEnding: Every episode ends with Corey delivering his "[[SpoofAesop Final Thoughts]]" before turning to the viewer and saying "Thanks for coming out, everyone!" and then pulling down a garage door that symbolizes the end of the episode.
* EveryoneHatesMimes: The episode "Myme Disease" features Grojband fighting with a gang of mimes over a new busking space, with Corey getting freaked out by their miming.
* EvilBrit: Blade Stabbington is a monstrous summer camp scare-master who speaks in a light British accent (albeit faked by his voice actor Creator/SeanCullen).
* ExpositoryThemeTune: The theme song explains the basic premise of the show in a quickened manner (although it was originally meant to be much longer).
* EyeGlasses: All of the bespectacled characters: Kin, Mina, Kate, Kim, and Mayor Mellow. Made particularly evident in the ZombieApocalypse episode where Zombie!Kate glasses fall off her eyes are still in her glasses.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:F-K]]
* {{Facepalm}}: In "Pox N' Roll", Laney does one, forgetting that she's wearing electrified mitts.
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: Played with. While the band successfully gets new lyrics every episode, any plans to assume a new band identity gets rejected.
* FakingTheDead: Grojband in the episode "Hologroj", thanks to Corey spreading a rumor for a publicity stunt. It works a little too well however.
* FantasticVoyagePlot: In "Inn Err Face", Kon is accidentally shrunk and swallowed by Trina. Kin gets himself shrunk in a mini-sub to go in and rescue him before the shrinking wears off.
* FatAndSkinny: Kon and Kin respectively, with the same applying to their Newman counterparts Konnie and Kim.
* FictionalHoliday: [[WhenThePlanetsAlign Comet Day]], instated on a [[UsefulNotes/LeapDay leap Saturday]], Julaugust 17th.
* FieryRedhead: Laney Penn is a short girl with short red hair with an ambitious, spunky, and sassy attitude. Bonus points for catching fire every so often.
* {{Flanderization}}: Trina, whose character went from being merely a bossy and overdramatic BrattyTeenageDaughter / AlphaBitch to an evil, vicious, psychopathic, and [[TeensAreMonsters just plain monstrous]] HateSink, as exemplified by how she openly boasts about trying to kill Corey and how she sees Mina as more of a disposable minion than a BFF in later episodes. This culminates in the GrandFinale [[spoiler:where she tries to stop Grojband from saving the world from being destroyed by a giant asteroid so that she and Nick Mallory will get to be together forever.]]
* ForeignerForADay: In "For Hat And Country", Grojband forms their own country - 'The People's Rockpublic of Grojland' - in order to be 'country' enough to buy a cowboy hat owned by famed country musician Earl Rural.
* FormallyNamedPet: Mina's cat is named Dr. Purrs.
* FreeRangeChildren: The kids practically live in Corey's garage, and their parents are only rarely ever mentioned by the show.
* FriendlyPirate: Played with in regards to Captain Tighty Whitey. In his two main appearances, he and his crew have been antagonistic pirates who plundered Peaceville, however they are still quite AffablyEvil and both times are persuaded into {{Heel Face Turn}}s by Grojband.
* FriendToAllLivingThings:
** Nick Mallory, as his laidback personality and good looks endear him to animals as much as it does to the ladies.
** Laney also shows signs of this, such as her gentleness with a bee in "Queen Bee", her fondness for dogs seen in "The Snuffles with Snarffles" and "A Knight to Remember", and her CutenessProximity reactions to Blade Stabbington's pet rat in "Creepaway Camp". However, she seems to make an exception for [[MisterMuffykins "yappy dogs"]].
* FullNameBasis: Nick Mallory, who seems to be a ThirdPersonPerson on this.
* FunWithSubtitles: Near the end of "All You Need is Cake", while the band is eating Barnina Barnley's wedding cake, the mouthfuls of cake cause their voices to become muffled with subtitles to translate what their saying, while you can easily know what they're saying, the subtitles just read "om nom".
* GadgeteerGenius: Kin creates all manner of crazy inventions for Grojband's escapades, from bubble-making machines to highly advanced holograms to shoes that make one smarter by walking forwards in them.
* GameFace: Trina displays this when writing in her diary in anger mode. She also makes the same face when she's just really upset, even as a little kid.
* GarageBand: Grojband itself, obviously!
* GentleGiant: Kon, who is the biggest member of Grojband but also a fun-loving goofball and a cherubic CloudCuckoolander.
* GettingSmiliesPaintedOnYourSoul: In "Grin Reaper", this is Torbo's modus operandi, with Torbo then consuming his victim's joy and reducing them to a pile of ash.
* GilliganCut:
** In "Wish Upon a Jug" when Corey and Trina are battling with wishes.
-->'''Clete:''' This is worse than that time we gave wishes to that dog and cat!\
'''Bessie:''' They’re family; they’ll realize they love each other soo-oon.\
''NO THEY WON'T TRANSITION!''\
'''Corey:''' I wish there was no moon so Trina would never have that moonlight kiss!\
''(Bessie rings her cowbell and the moon explodes just as Corey wished for)''\
'''Bessie:''' ''(To Clete)'' Okay, Yoo-ou were right.
** From "Space Jammin'" when the band finds out The Newmans are going to perform at Sludgefest:
-->'''Laney''': Guys, Core will be okay. It's not like he'll go crazy or anything.\
'''Corey''': ''(after he crazily drives a tractor into the garage)'' Who's ready to mow away their pain?
* GirlsWithMoustaches:
** In "Smash Up Terby", Trina gets cotton candy stuck to her face, making it look like she has a beard.
** Laney gets a puppet of herself with one and a five o'clock shadow in "No Strings Attached".
** Janie Penn (Laney's ancestor) in the episode "War and Peaceville" had one. Laney states that she worked in the circus.
* GoneToTheFuture: Corey, Laney, and Kon go one year into the future in "Ahead of Our Own Tone" to find out what next year's music trends will be and then go back to release it before anyone else can. Their one-year absence is seemingly unnoticed by anybody else.
* GoodWithNumbers: Trina loves math and numbers so much that she's willing to hide it as Trigonometrina, as she would never admit it in public.
* {{Goth}}: Candy Jams from the episode "Girl Fest". Also the RecurringExtra Gigi.
* GrandFinale: The two-parter "Hear Us Rock!" is this for the entire series:
** In the first part, [[spoiler:the apocalypse is coming, and Grojband makes the most of it with one last concert while Trina decides to finally confess her feelings to Nick Mallory.]]
** In part 2, [[spoiler:It's revealed that The Orb Experience are the ones bringing the apocalypse as revenge against Grojband. Grojband challenges them to a rematch with the fate of the world at stake. Trina sides with the Orbs and manages to steal Grojband's instruments, but Mina [[MistreatmentEqualsBetrayal finally stands up]] to Trina, saving the band. With ThePowerOfRock, Grojband manages to destroy the meteor with one last song, saving the Earth. Corey is implied to finally recognize his feelings for Laney, and then all of Grojband close off the series with "Thanks for coming out, everyone!".]]
* GrandTheftMe: The Orb Experience do this to The Newmans in "Space Jammin".
* GreaterScopeVillain: The Blue Star of Rocklympus, according to WordOfGod, is this. It is specifically hunting down Corey himself for unclear reasons, and it has a counterpart called the Pink Star of Rocklympus that was apparently responsible for transforming Trina from the sweet and caring CoolBigSis who Corey encountered in [[JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind "Dreamreaver"]] to the evil basket-case BigSisterBully we see in the show.
* HalloweenEpisode: "Dance of the Dead" features Grojband performing at their school's Halloween dance, only for their new haunted amp to start a ZombieApocalypse scenario that they have to thwart.
* HandicappedBadass: Wheelie, due to losing his legs in a fire. He gets around via a rollerskate.
* HappilyAdopted: Both Trina and Corey are this by their dad, according to WordOfGod.
* HarmlessFreezing: Trina gets frozen in a giant block of ice by Nick Mallory's sheer coolness in "Rock the House". She's completely fine afterward, although Mina is seen having to wrap her shivering body in a blanket.
* {{Hellevator}}: In "Love in a Nethervator", an infernal elevator takes the band to the underworld to confront the Button Keeper, a demon said in Rock Lore to be the creator of all elevator music. [[spoiler:It turns out that the Button Keeper is actually a man named Otis (who can turn into a demon if his hat is removed), a former elevator operator who hated elevator music as much as Corey does and moved to the Underworld to trap it.]]
-->[[spoiler:'''Kon:''' Facts are hazy in Rock Lore.]]
* HeyThatsMyLine: In "Zoohouse Rock", Kin manages to steal the catchphrases of the other three band members, ending with him bumping Corey out of the way to close with Corey's usual "Thanks for coming out everyone".
-->'''Kin:''' And Kin gets [[RuleOfThree the hat trick!]]
* HeyYou: In "The Bandidate", Kate and Allie don't seem to know Trina's name and just call her "Corey's sister." Even after Trina becomes mayor, they call her Mayor Corey's Sister.
* HilarityInZoos: In "Zoohouse Rock", Trina persuades Mayor Mellow that Grojband are actually musical bears, and he cages them as the zoo's newest attraction. Their attempts to free themselves result in a riot where the townsfolk release all of the animals to run wild through Peaceville.
* {{Hipster}}: The episode "Who are You" is centered on them, and is also a big TakeThat against them too.
* HiveQueen: Cyborg Trina in "Ahead of our Own Tone", due to melding her mind with everyone in Peaceville save Mina, Nick, and Grojband.
* HuddleShot: Frequently shows up when Grojband groups up to discuss plans and strategies.
* {{Hunk}}: Part of the reason why Trina finds Nick Mallory so dreamy. She even regularly calls him as "Hunky Nick Mallory".
* IAmSpartacus: In "Ahead of Our Own Tone", all of the members of Grojband claim to be Nick Mallory in order to distract Cyborg Trina.
* ICantBelieveItsNotHeroin: Trina's reaction to chocolate.
* IDontKnowMortalKombat: "Duelling Buttons" sees Corey get completely thrashed by Trina at the ''VideoGame/GuitarHero''-style game Solo Shredder, causing him to question his own abilities at the guitar.
* IdenticalGrandson: The episode "War and Peaceville", reveals that all of Grojband's members and Nick Mallory had identical-looking ancestors.
* IdiosyncraticWipes: Known by the show as Wicked Cool Transitions. Many scenes wipe to the next using the, with "X-Y TRANSITION!!!" singing as accompaniment. They're usually themed towards the episode, but there are generic ones like "WICKED COOL TRANSITION!!!"
* IllTakeTwoBeersToo: In "Smash Up Terby" when Nick is buying a ticket to the carnival, Trina comes along with Mina and says "Make that three!" Nick misunderstands what she meant and buys three tickets for himself, saving the other two for later.
* ImaginaryLoveTriangle: Trina is often paranoid about Mina stealing Nick away from her.
* InformedAttribute: According to Corey in "One-Plant Band" (and also stated in their official online bios), he and Trina are the most popular kids in their respective grades, but we hardly ever see their school lives, and when we do, they don't seem to be treated that differently by other students.
* InopportuneVoiceCracking: Corey goes through this in "Helmet", so he wears the titular helmet to make his autotune his voice for the band's gig of the week.
* InsaneProprietor: Parodied with 3-D Dave, whose prices may seem crazy at first but actually result in a modest profit while still offering bargains.
* InsaneTrollLogic: Most of Corey's {{Zany Scheme}}s and {{Spoof Aesop}}s use this; not even his bandmates understand the way he thinks. Lampshaded in one episode when Laney asks him how his brain even works after she accidentally gives Corey inspiration for yet another ridiculous plan.
* InstrumentOfMurder: In "Dreamreaver", Grojband confronts dream versions of themselves called Mrojband inside Trina's mind. Dream-Corey uses his guitar as [[MotorcycleJousting a lance on a dirt bike]], Dream-Kin's keytar fires energy blasts, and Dream-Kon's drums create earthquakes.
* InvisibleParents: None of the characters' parents ever appear. Trina mentions her and Corey's dad in "Smash Up Terby" (and WordOfGod states he's a single adopted father) while Kin and Kon mention their parents on two separate occasions, but that's the most we get on them. On the other hand, no word is ever spoken on the subject of Laney's parents.
* JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind: "Dreamreaver" follows Grojband entering Trina's mind after they accidentally fry her brain by forcing her to watch their new music video non-stop for hours on end. Inside, they encounter evil doppelgangers of themselves, countless Nick Mallories, Mina in the form of a little lapdog, and Trina's original CoolBigSis self named Katrina.
* KarmicButtMonkey: Trina is a colossal {{Jerkass}} and AlphaBitch with [[ItsAllAboutMe a massively self-centered attitude]] and a HairTriggerTemper who abuses her best friend and treats her as a slave while also doing everything she can to ruin her brother Corey's life and crush his dreams. However, the show's very premise is that Corey and his band need to steal her diary for lyrics, which means they put her through constant MuseAbuse and always attempt to drive her nuts so that she'll write in her diary.
* KentBrockmanNews: Buzz Newsworthy and Chance Happening, who visibly hate one another and frequently sling insults towards each other on public television.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:L-O]]
* LadyLooksLikeADude: Laney Penn. In "Pop Goes The Bubble", however, it's confirmed that the rest of the band know her gender. WordOfGod indicates that the band knew this from the beginning, but treat Laney [[OneOfTheBoys as a guy]] to help her fit in. Laney's male counterpart Lenny has the [[DudeLooksLikeALady opposite problem]].
* TheLancer: Laney, who constantly plays OnlySaneWoman and CloudcuckoolandersMinder to the rest of Grojband while nonetheless looking out for them and making sure everything goes according to plan.
* {{LARP}}: Grojband gets a gig as minstrels for such an event in "A Knight to Remember".
* LastSecondWordSwap[=/=]SubvertedRhymeEveryOccasion: In the song featured in the episode "No Strings Attached."
-->"Their noses are plastic but I fear they can smell"\
"Their eyes are like windows..."\
"Straight into HEEEEEEEEE-ck!"
* LaughingMad: Trina in "Space Jammin" when The Orb Experience (who were possessing The Newmans) sing a page of her diary telling about her fears that Nick Mallory likes Mina more than her. She tries to laugh it off (poorly), but she soon breaks down and it quickly cuts to her going into Diary Mode and looking pissed beyond belief.
* TheLeader: Corey is this for Grojband, booking their gigs and coming up with {{Zany Scheme}}s that Kin and Kon carry out and Laney ensures actually do work.
* {{Leitmotif}}: Each of Trina's Diary Modes has a style of music depending on which emotion she's feeling:
** Anger: Heavy metal music with demonic screaming in the background.
** Fear: {{Theremin}}
** Love/Happiness: Romantic music
** Sadness: Same as anger but with a creepy widower choir replacing the demonic screaming.
* LeeroyJenkins: {{Homage}}d in "Space Jammin'" when The Orb Experience take over the bodies of The Newmans.
-->'''T'ORB''': These "The Newmans" seem like suitable husks. We must begin a delicate bodysnatching procedure--\
'''G'ORB:''' G'ORB NOR JENKOR!!!\
'''T'ORB:''' Augh! He has the patience of a tetrahedron!
* LetsDuet: Corey and Laney perform one called "Please Come Back" for a wedding gig in the episode "All You Need is Cake" in order to win back Kin and Kon's friendship.
* LetsSplitUpGang: In the episodes "Pox N Roll" and "Inn Err Face", the band wanted to take care of things faster and so Corey and Laney did one thing while Kin and Kon went off and did something else.
* LighterAndSofter: Compared to Creator/FreshTV's previous cartoons. ''Grojband'' features less of the PG elements seen in ''WesternAnimation/TotalDrama'', ''WesternAnimation/{{Sixteen}}'', and ''WesternAnimation/{{Stoked}}'', such as mild swearing, censored nudity, and light sexual references, due to being aimed at a younger audience.
* LiteralGenie: In "Wish Upon A Jug" when Trina wishes for the Newmans to be the biggest band in the world, they literally become colossal giants capable of crushing buildings.
* {{Loony Fan}}s: The band's groupies, [[ThoseTwoGuys Kate and Allie]].
* LyricalDissonance: In one episode, the band sings a song about running away from creepy puppets who want to kill you... in the style of a song you might find on a preschooler show, for an audience of little kids. The kids seem to love it, though!
* MadLibsCatchphrase: Trina has "Hashtag (Insert word here!)"
* MagicAIsMagicA: According to the genies in "Wish Upon a Jug", a genie can't undo another genie's wish.
* ManEatingPlant: One such creature takes over Grojband in "One-Plant Band" by hypnotizing Corey with its pollen and then using him to reinvent the band as New Age-style hippie musicians.
* MayanDoomsday: The premise of "Hear Us Rock!" is all about this, although the Mayan analogues of the episode are called the Sambans instead.
* MichaelJacksonsThrillerParody: "Dance of the Dead" has this, given that its a ZombieApocalypse scenario in a music-themed series.
* MinimalistCast: There are a few recurring and one-episode characters, but 99% of the show is about Grojband and Trina.
** RecurringExtra: While there are background characters, they tend to always be the same people and sometimes they have lines.
* MisappliedPhlebotinum: In "Space Jammin'", The Orb Experience steal Trina's diary after finding out they can use it for lyrics, but they just read the diary verbatim instead of writing actual lyrics, specifically "Entry 4897 - My Secret Fear, and Junk".
* MissingMom: According to WordOfGod, [[http://neptoonstudios.tumblr.com/post/58429754344 Corey and Trina are raised by a single father]] [[http://neptoonstudios.tumblr.com/post/58599183195 and there never was a mother; he adopted them on his own]].
* MissionImpossibleCableDrop: Grojband's groupies Kate and Allie do this when they break into Trina's room to steal her beloved Mr. Mooseface toy for Corey's ZanyScheme of the episode. There are complications.
* MommasBoy: Mayor Mellow. Even though his mother's been dead for a while, he takes advice from her picture.
* MotorcycleJousting: In "Dreamreaver", Grojband confronts a dream version of themselves inside Trina's mind. Dream-Corey [[InstrumentOfMurder uses his guitar as a lance]] while charging on a dirt bike.
* MotorMouth: Carrie, as she's the member of The Newmans with the most speaking parts. In fact, with the exception of Konnie (who only gets a single line in "Space Jammin'"), none of the other Newmans speak in the first half of the series.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: In "Hear Us Rock!", [[spoiler:Trina finally pushes Mina to her limit when she leaves her to die along with everyone else on Earth, resulting in Mina betraying Trina and helping Grojband save Earth, as well as giving Trina a much-needed piece of her own mind.]]
* MundaneMadeAwesome:
** Trina writing in her diary.
** Corey testing out the autotuning helmet in "Helmet" by reading the contents of a juice box.
* TheMuse: Trina serves as an unwitting one to Grojband.
* MuseAbuse: The series is based around a group of young rock 'n roll musicians driving an AlphaBitch BrattyTeenageDaughter so crazy that she'll get emotional enough to vent in her diary and they can use her writings for lyrical inspiration, so this was pretty much a given.
* MyspeldRokband: The name Grojband is "GarageBand" pronounced as two syllables instead of three.
* NeverTrustAHairTonic: In "Hair Today, Kon Tomorrow", Kon uses a hair tonic (intended for dogs) that causes him to become completely covered in hair. A blow to the head then gives him DelusionsOfDoghood.
* NewJobAsThePlotDemands:
** Grojband changes what type of band they are in nearly every episode. Mostly done just so they can get performance gigs, while also allowing the show to feature more genres of music than just the band's default rock n'roll.
** In a more classic example, there is the character of Barney, who periodically provides plot-related help and runs nearly all the businesses that Grojband plays gigs at. His hat always changes to his Job of the Week. Somewhat justified within the show by the fact that he is extremely rich, allowing him to own multiple businesses.
* NewYearHasCome: "Curse of the Metrognome" is set on New Year's Eve (or rather a second one ordered by Mayor Mellow due to a misprint in the town calendar), with Grojband's gig of the week being at the midnight countdown.
* NewYearsKiss: Trina tries to get one from Nick Mallory in "Curse of the Metrognome". However, the actual kiss that midnight ends up being [[spoiler:Corey and Laney]].
* NiceJobBreakingItHero:
** In "Rockersize", Grojband's high-powered, ultra-fast performance of hardcore exercise music for a trio of extremely crabby old ladies results in the grannies being turned into giant muscular brutes who immediately go on the rampage and destroy anything they deem distasteful.
** In "Helmet", when Kin hits the rogue helmet with a hammer, it flies into a high-tech Ferris wheel and assimilates with it to transform into a giant robot.
* NiceJobFixingItVillain: After the above happens, the helmet, in its effort to make everything "perfect", uses its ray to fix Corey's cracked voice, allowing the band to promptly defeat it with their imperfectible yodelling in the episode's song.
* NightmareFace: Scare-master Blade Stabbington has one of these in "Creepaway Camp"; once Grojband helps him get his scare back, that is.
* NoFourthWall:
** The series is very aware of itself, and the fourth wall is broken in pretty much every episode. Every episode even ends with Corey addressing the audience directly as he turns to the viewers and says "Thanks for coming out, everyone!".
-->'''Trina:''' ''(to Mina)'' You're not in this episode.\
'''Mina:''' Aw...
** The fact that Mina's not in the episode "Cloudy with a Chance of Malt Balls" comes back to bite Trina in the butt near the end.
-->'''Trina:''' ''(on the phone)'' MINA! HERE!! '''NOW!!!'''\
'''Mina:''' ''(on the phone)'' [[BrickJoke B-b-but I'm not in this episode.]]
* NonHumanSidekick: Blade Stabbington's rodent companion, Biteface.
* NotNowKiddo: Trina does this to Mina repeatedly throughout "Rock the House", which prevents her from learning she had been cheering for Grojband during their BattleOfTheBands the whole time until the very end.
-->'''Trina:''' "If cheering for our team raised Nick's spirit, then I'll be the team captain of doing that!"\
'''Mina:''' "Great idea Trina, but that means you'll be cheering for your br-(gets cut off)"\
'''Trina:''' "OTHER WORDS ARE NOT NEEDED!!!"
* ObfuscatingStupidity:
** Kon, according to WordOfGod. This is hinted at a few times in the show however, as he frequently displays BookDumb and GeniusDitz tendencies that suggest he may be intelligent in his own unusual way.
** Also Trina, who really likes math but generally behaves like an airhead. She is also, for some reason, a ''much'' nicer person when she's Trignometrina (her nerd alter-ego).
* ObliviousToLove: Corey is oblivious to the fact that Laney has a crush on him, although as the series progresses, hints are dropped that he isn't and may in fact be also having feelings for Laney as well.
* OcularGushers: Laney does this in "One-Plant Band" after a {{brainwashed}} Corey angrily yells at her for being right all the time.
* OfCorpseHesAlive: In "Soulin' Down the Road", while Trina's soul is trapped in her car, Pinktastic, Mina engages in friendly activities with her unconscious body.
* OncePerEpisode: Trina is overcome with an emotion, causing her to into Diary Mode, and then Grojband uses the new diary entry to perform the episode's song. After that, Corey delivers a SpoofAesop and then says "Thanks for coming out, everyone!" before slamming a garage door to signify the end of the episode.
* TheOneGuy: Lenny Nepp for The Newmans.
* OneOfTheBoys: Laney to Grojband. The male members of Grojband keep endearingly calling her "fella," "guy," "dude," and similar terms, though she seems to dislike it.
* OnlySaneMan: Laney, who acts as TheLancer to Corey and has enough common sense and maturity to realize how ridiculous most of Corey and the Kujira twins' plans are. Also doubles as WomenAreWiser.
* OOCIsSeriousBusiness: Corey is known for being very calm most of the time, so the few times he flips out are always a cause for concern with his friends.
** In "Love in a Nethervator", the gang gets concerned when Corey angrily arrives at the garage. Laney asks what happened, and...
-->'''Corey''': I was stuck in an elevator and [[BerserkButton I had to listen to forty-one and a half minutes OF ELEVATOR MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!]] ''(growls)''
** In "Duelling Buttons", Corey absolutely LOSES IT when Trina defeats him at the rhythm game Solo Shredder, and not even Laney's usual comforting can help calm him down.
-->'''Corey:''' HER song?! Hottest thing in music?! ''(growls)''\
'''Laney:''' ''(pats his head while speaking slowly)'' Breathe.\
'''Corey:''' I've been breathing my whole life, and it's got me nothing! And now TRINA HAS A HIT SONG! '''SHE HAS MY DREAM!!''' '''''AND I CAN'T EVEN MASTER A FAKE GUITAR!!!!'''''
* OrganAutonomy: Laney's own disgruntled heart has leaped out of her mouth for a gag in "Dance of the Dead" after her hopes of Corey confessing his feelings for her are crushed.
* OrSoIHeard: In "Grin Reaper" after Grojband are given happiness-inducing mind control bracelets by Torbo:
-->'''Kin:''' Cool! It matches my glasses!\
'''Kon:''' Huh?\
'''Kin:''' Uh... is what I would say if I knew what accessorizing was.
* OurGeniesAreDifferent: The genies in "Wish Upon a Jug" are hillbillies who live in music jugs. They can't undo the wish of another genie, but there's no rule against wishing for more wishes.
* OurGnomesAreWeirder: The titular being of "Curse of the Metrognome" awakens every New Year's Eve to feed on the timing of bands, absorbing it into his beard. He also has no feet and instead hovers about.
* OurSoulsAreDifferent: Trina's soul was somehow able to grab her pen and diary and also able to write an entry in it so that Corey can use it for lyrics in the episode "Soulin' Down the Road".
* OurZombiesAreDifferent: As seen in "Dance of the Dead". Apparently the best way to deal with zombies brought to life and reverting the victims who were bitten by zombies back to normal is with a magical amp, lightning, and good lyrics.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:P-R]]
* PaletteSwap: The beanie that Corey wears to bed is a blue recoloring of the one he wears everywhere.
* ParanormalMundaneItem: In "Six Strings Of Evil", after Trina destroys Corey's guitar with a woodchipper, Corey decides to buy a new one, which just happens to be evil.
* PeripheryDemographic: An InUniverse case. "No Strings Attached" reveals Corey to be a fan of The Bubble Bunch Band, a really kiddy animatronic show targeted towards small children.
* PersonalitySwap: Trina and Mina switch personalities in "A Knight to Remember" as a result of the [[RealityWarper Bonkerton Comet]] flying by. As a result, Mina becomes a snobby princess and Trina becomes her lowly servant. Mina also inherits Trina's OncePerEpisode Diary Mode.
* PinkGirlBlueBoy: Trina and Corey, who are a brother-sister pair with pink hair and blue hair respectively.
* PinPullingTeeth: One of the mimes does this in mime (complete with resulting explosion) in "Myme Disease".
* APirate400YearsTooLate: Captain Tighty Whitey and his crew exemplify this trope.
* PlotAllergy:
** Corey is allergic to cat dander, which Kon uses to get him to sneeze its hypnotic pollen and free him from the mind control of Trina's plant in "One-Plant Band".
** Trina is shown to be allergic to bread crust in the episode "Kon-Fusion", and bubbles in the episode "Pop Goes the Bubble" - both of which, of course, play an important role in helping Grojband get their lyrics.
* PolarOppositeTwins: Kin and Kon, and their gender opposites Kim and Konnie. Kin and Kim are diminutive geniuses, while Kon and Konnie are big fat goofballs. Both however are equally kooky.
* PosthumousCharacter: Mother Mellow. She's never explicitly stated to be dead, but the fact that Mayor Mellow always carries a picture of her with him seems to suggest so.
* ThePowerOfRock: The show lives and breathes on this trope, which is perhaps best exemplified in the series finale where [[spoiler:Grojband saves the world by destroying a meteor using nothing but their own music.]]
* PreciousPuppy: Snarffles in "The Snuffles with Snarffles".
* PreviouslyOn: Parodied in "Dreamreaver". Corey attempts to do this at the start of the second half, but Laney interrupts him to say "We don't have time for that, Core".
* ThePsychoRangers: In "Dreamreaver", Trina's hatred/fear of Grojband after being forced to watch their extremely confusing music video for multiple hours on end manifests itself into their DeliberatelyMonochrome clones, Mrojband.
* PunnyName: The two news reporters, Chance Happening and Buzz Newsworthy.
* QuarantineWithExtremePrejudice: When Corey gets the chicken pox in "Pox N' Roll", Trina alerts Mayor Mellow who seals the garage in an outbreak dome - with Trina still inside. Mayor Mellow even posts tanks outside the bubble to make sure no one tries to escape.
* QuarterHourShort: Creator/CartoonNetwork aired the series this way, while Creator/{{Teletoon}} stuck with the TwoShorts format.
* RageBreakingPoint: Trina writes in her diary in Anger Mode whenever she reaches this.
* RealityWarper:
** Trina is a mild case. Whenever she writes lyrics-worthy entries in her journal, her emotions manifest around her, and strange phenomena takes place depending on the emotion in question.
** In "A Knight To Remember", the Bonkerton Comet messes with reality when it appears every four years.
** Grojband's music is capable of raising the dead, breaking people from their brainwashing, increasing the muscle build of some senior folk, breaking a cybernetic network, banishing an evil knight summoned from imagination, ... and basically every un-normal thing that occurs in the series. And how? With ThePowerOfRock, of course!
** Trina and Nick Mallory also appear to exert power over bodily functions; Trina and Mina can resist sweating and drooling as "it's for farmers" and Nick Mallory is able to stare away his chickenpox because "Nick Mallory doesn't do spots".
** According to the intro video in the website, the "Wicked Cool Transition" can teleport characters.
** Interestingly, Nick once uses his coolness to 'literally cool' the flames that Trina's Diary Mode created.
* TheReasonYouSuckSpeech: After being treated as nothing but a disposable slave and ButtMonkey by her "BFF" Trina for the entire series, Mina finally snaps in "Hear us Rock!" when Trina [[spoiler:leaves her and the rest of the world to die from a meteor strike just so she can be alone with Nick Mallory forever]] and proceeds to tear Trina a new one, telling her off for leaving her best friend and the only one who can stand her to [[spoiler:die in a meteor strike just so she can be with a boy who isn't interested in her.]]
* RecycledAnimation: The pose of Corey leaning forward with the mic in his hands is reused fairly regularly in episode songs, although the animators do make the effort to change his mouthing to match the lyrics as appropriate. Likewise, the intro shot of Laney rocking out on the bass also makes a few quick cameos in the show proper.
* RedEyesTakeWarning:
** Trina's eyes turn red when she gets angry or very afraid.
** Mrojband in "Dreamreaver" all have red eyes.
** Blade Stabbington and his rodent companion Biteface, but only when he's scaring people in Camp Screamly.
** In "Group Hug", [[spoiler:Mina gets red eyes when she threatens Kate and Allie]].
* RedheadInGreen: Laney Penn has red BoyishShortHair and wears a green striped shirt.
* RevengeBeforeReason: In "Super Zeroes", Trina is willing to let herself fall to her death just to discredit the Justice Band as superheroes.
* RhymesOnADime: Mayor Mellow does this quite often, although not consistently.
* RightHandCat: Wheelie to Trina in "The Snuffles with Snarffles".
* TheRival: The Newmans are this for Corey's band.
** SitcomArchNemesis: Just look at [[Series/{{Seinfeld}} their name]].
* RoboticReveal: [[spoiler:Torbo]] turns out to be a robot at the end of "Grin Reaper", to the shock of everyone except Kon.
-->'''Kon:''' ''(deadpan)'' [[NoFourthWall Didn't I call this in, like, Scene 2]]?
* RuleOfCool: About half of the stuff that happens in the show runs on this.
** RuleOfFunny: And the other half runs on this.
* RunningGag:
** This show features quite a few of them.
*** Trina Riffin going into Diary Mode.
*** Corey Riffin giving his end of episode's SpoofAesop, usually followed by Laney pointing out his speech would have made for excellent lyrics for the episode's song.
*** Trina failing to kiss Nick Mallory.
*** Corey saying an excessively long title for an operation, usually having to stop at some point to take a very deep breath before finishing it.
*** Laney getting mistaken for a guy.
*** Wicked Cool Transitions.
*** Kin and Kon's Rock Lore stories.
*** A random donkey inexplicably appearing in crowd scenes.
*** Barney changing jobs and hats every time he appears.
** There are some running gags that only occur in one episode.
*** Kin and Kon's future selves in "Cloudy With a Chance of Malt Balls".
*** In "Dance of the Dead", everyone keeps thinking Laney in her normal look is wearing a scary costume.
*** In "Space Jammin'", characters constantly bring up Z'ORB's pancakes.
*** Kin stealing everyone's catchphrases in "Zoohouse Rock".
*** Kin falling over due to the imbalanced proportions of his hat in "Line of Credit"
*** "Six Strings of Evil" has Trina throwing random objects she hates into a wood chipper inexplicably with her.
*** In "Rock the House", Mina kept trying to tell Trina that the team she was cheering for was Grojband, but in the middle of the keyword, Trina would cut her off, screaming a sentence where the first word, finished that keyword.
*** An eagle randomly swooping down and taking something off the ground (mostly a rat) in "The Snuffles with Snarffles".
*** Kon being convinced that he needs tickets to get into Grojband's concert in "A-Capella-Lips Now".
[[/folder]]

[[folder:S-Z]]
* SandNecktie: Laney does this to Kin and Kon after they interrupt her fake date on the beach with Corey in "All You Need is Cake".
* SarcasticDevotee: Laney Penn often makes snarky remarks about Grojband's ridiculous schemes, but is nonetheless loyal to her friends and passionate about making music with them.
* SayingSoundEffectsOutLoud: In "Monster of Rock", we have someone crying out "Grrglflt!" when they get sucked down in the toilet by the sewer monster El Chewpoocaca.
* SealedGoodInACan: Trina's good side, Katrina, who is the representation of Trina used to be like before she became the evil, psychotic BrattyTeenageDaughter and AlphaBitch we see in the series.
* SecretDiary: Trina has one, and it's where the band gets its song ideas from.
* SecurityBlanket: Mr. Mooseface to Trina during her childhood. She's still viciously protective of it though.
* ShipTease: Corey and Laney get quite a bit of this, especially in the later episodes.
* ShoutOut: [[ShoutOut/{{Grojband}} Now has its own page!]]
* SignatureInstrument: Each of the four members of Grojband are associated with a particular instrument: Corey has a red-and-yellow electric guitar with a red strap, Laney uses a bluish-green electric bass guitar, Kin uses a blue keyboard (sometimes a keytar), and Kon uses a red dumset with the band's skull symbol visible on the bass drum. Notably however, when the band does songs in genres outside their usual pop rock style, they often have different designated instruments; for instance, in both of the show's country songs, Corey uses a banjo, Laney uses a washtub bass, and Kin uses a washboard. Laney also has a violin she uses in a few songs while Kin utilizes the turntable on several occasions.
* SimilarSquad:
** Well aside from the DistaffCounterpart Newmans, there's...
** ...The Orb Experience who all appear to be Grojband's counterparts, with G'ORB and N'ORB (Corey and Laney's Orb counterparts) even having the same colour scheme.
** Also Mrojband (Mirage Band), who appear in Trina's [[JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind mind world]] in "Dreamreaver".
* SkyPirate: Captain Tighty Whitey and his pirate crew have a CoolShip that they sail around in the sky, although it's also perfectly capable of sailing on the sea.
* TheSmartGuy: Kin is the brains of Grojband, providing crazy inventions and wacky science to help the band in their {{Zany Scheme}}s.
* SmellyFeetGag: In "Group Hug", Katie and Allie chain Laney, Kin, and Kon by their shoes. Laney is able easily escape by simply taking her feet out of her boots, but the accompanying stench revolts Kin and Kon so much they beg for her to put her feet back in.
* SmokeOut: Mina does this along with Trina in "Indie Road Rager".
* TheSmurfettePrinciple: Laney Penn is the sole girl for Grojband. [[LadyLooksLikeADude Not that most other people seem to realize this]].
* SodaCandySplosion: After getting locked in a zoo in "[[Recap/GrojbandS1E7CreepawayCampZoohouseRock Zoohouse Rock]]", Kin attempts to break the band out by sticking soda and candy in their cage's lock. [[SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome It does nothing]].
-->'''Kin:''' Nothing? Last time I combined Chuggers Cola and Blastymouth Candy, I lost three teeth.
* SoreLoser: Trina does not take her defeats very well, as seen in the episode "Queen Bee".
* SpoofAesop: Corey delivers one at the end of [[OncePerEpisode every episode]]. Subverted in that while some of the Aesops actually are worth taking into consideration (albeit very lightly), but it's also played straight in other episodes. "Dance of the Dead" ended with an Aesop about how people shouldn't treat zombies the way they're often portrayed in the media.
* StarfishAliens: The members of The Orb Experience, who resemble floating, glowing balls of energy with lines on their bodies that zigzag whenever they speak.
* StarringSmurfette: "Girl Fest" sees Corey appoint Laney as the band's leader for the episode so Grojband can get the opening gig at the concert of feminist rock star Candy Jams. Laney turns out to be really good at it, and even gets to sing solo for the episode's song.
* StatingTheSimpleSolution:
** In "Dreamreaver", after Grojband's new music video ends up putting Trina into a catatonic state, the following exchange ensues regarding what to do with the unconscious Trina.
-->'''Kin:''' There's only one thing we can do!\
'''Laney:''' Get her to a doctor?\
'''Kin & Kon:''' Connect our minds using science helmets and enter her dream!\
'''Corey:''' Whew! Glad there's a simple logical solution.
** In "Ahead of Our Own Tone", Corey learns from Kin and Kon about the electronic music band D-Keizer Zaps and how they were considered "ahead of their own time" for their futuristic-sounding music, leading to this exchange.
-->'''Corey:''' Guys, we should totally be ahead of our time too!\
'''Laney:''' By creating a new and innovative sound?\
'''Corey:''' Pfft, that's way too hard. We'll just go one year into the future and see what music's like, then come back to unleash the trend before anyone else!
* StrictlyFormula: Most episodes follow a certain pattern -- Grojband learns of a new music gig opportunity that Corey announces the band will be playing at, only for a problem to come up (usually Trina's doing). To resolve the problem, Corey and the gang make Trina enter Diary Mode, and then steal the diary to use it as inspiration for the lyrics in the episode's song. Afterwards, Corey delivers a SpoofAesop and then says "Thanks for coming out everyone!" before closing a garage door to symbolize the end of the episode.
* StylishProtectionGear: In "Hear Us Rock!", Trina somehow gets a pink spacesuit when everyone else's is white.
* SuperheroEpisode: Subverted in "Super Zeroes". Corey remakes Grojband into a superhero costume band called The Justice Band, but get mistaken for real crimefighting superheroes by the people of Peaceville. So while they do a lot of heroic deeds around the town, they never actually get any music gigs as they planned for.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: When Grojband's groupies ask where the band finds inspiration for lyrics in "Group Hug".
--> '''Corey''': We ''DO NOT'' steal them from my sister's diary, that's for sure!
* SwappedRoles: In "A Knight to Remember", thanks to Bonkerton Comet, Mina becomes an AlphaBitch and Trina becomes her ButtMonkey.
* SweetTooth: Trina loves chocolate.
* SycophanticServant: Mina for Trina. She takes her abuse in stride to loyally assist Trina in her anti-Grojband, Nick-attracting schemes. WordOfGod is that she still sees Trina as the nice girl she used to be and believes the old Trina is still somewhere inside of her.
* TakeOurWordForIt: In "Myme Disease" Nick Mallory paints an apparently beautiful portrait of Trina that [[TheUnreveal neither Trina nor the audience gets to see]].
* TakeThat:
** "Who Are You" is one delivered to {{Hipster}} culture in a big way, depicting them as snobbish, apathetic idiots who are simply too afraid to express themselves and live life to the fullest.
** An InUniverse example: Laney is devastated to find out Singer Candy Jams is using the punk image to sell cosmetics. She later delivers a harsh song to her calling her out.
* TalkingAnimal: Sentient beavers appear in "Six Strings of Evil" as dam construction workers. Also, an intelligent donkey appears as a background character on multiple occasions.
* TeensAreMonsters: Trina Riffin is a prime example of this, as well as being the series BigBad. She exemplifies many of the worst characteristics stereotypically associated with teenage girls but taken to the point of making her a vicious, psychopathic HateSink who would do anything to get what she wants with no regard for others.
* ThankingTheViewer: Every episode ends with Corey saying "Thanks for coming out, everyone!" to the audience. In the finale, the rest of Grojband join him in saying it and waves goodbye before Corey closes the door.
* {{Theremin}}: Used for Trina's Diary Mode music for fear in the episode "No Strings Attached".
* ThirdPersonPerson: Nick Mallory speaks in this manner.
* ThrowingTheFight: Grojband's initial plan was to have Laney to do in the episode "Queen Bee". However, the plan falls apart because of [[SpringtimeForHitler Trina's competitive nature causing her to lose]], and the fact that Trina crossed the line by dissing the band when she asked Laney "[[TemptingFate What part of 'Your band stinks!' didn't I say?]]". For the latter, [[BerserkButton Laney was not happy about this]].
* ThoseTwoGirls: Corey's fangirls, Kate and Allie, AKA the Groupies.
* TimeTravelEpisode: "Ahead of Our Own Tone" sees Grojband (sans Kin) go one year into the future to see what music is like so they can return to the past and unleash the trend before it started, only for their plans to be derailed by the discovery that future Peaceville is now ruled by a cyborg version of Trina who has mind controlled nearly everyone in town.
* TomboyWithAGirlyStreak: Laney Penn. While most characters think she's a boy [[OneOfTheBoys (and she often acts the part)]], she has shown a hidden girly side on occasions and is confirmed in her official online bio to be a massive closet Girly Girl.
* TorchesAndPitchforks: In "Myme Disease", when the citizens of Peaceville discover that their favorite statue performer is actually a statue, they riot and are shown carrying torches and pitchforks.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: All four members of Grojband have one.
** Corey: Blueberry Waffles and chocolate milk.
** Laney: Ketchup flavored potato chips
** Kin and Kon: Cheese
* TrueBeautyIsOnTheInside: The premise of the beauty pageant in "Queen Bee". Laney won because she was kinder than Trina.
* TrueCompanions: Grojband themselves. As highlighted in episodes like "All You Need is Cake" and "It's in the Card", Corey, Laney, and the Kujira twins value their collective friendship, their shared love of music and playing tunes together, and the unity of their band more than anything else. Pretty much any time in the series Grojband splits up from a fallout between its members, the show treats it as an extremely grave situation.
* TwoPartEpisode: "Dreamreaver" and "Hear Us Rock!", due to both being full half-hour episodes instead of the show's traditional TwoShorts format.
* UltimateAuthorityMayor: Mayor Mellow. WordOFGod states that the mayoral office in Peaceville also includes every other position of authority in the town (including chief of police and head of post office), and as a result, Mayor Mellow is ridiculously powerful for a municipal official.
* UltimateGamer386: Savage Fred, holder of the highest score in the video game Solo Shredder in the episode "Dueling Buttons".
* UncannyFamilyResemblance: Nick Mallory has a little brother named Mick who is basically a smaller version of him (right down to the way he talks), but with an inverted colors for his shirt and jacket.
* UnsportsmanlikeGloating: In "Queen Bee", Laney intentionally threw one of the rounds in the pageant but won the round by default when Trina was disqualified for doing this.
* ValentinesDayEpisode: "It's in the Card" is set on Valentine's Day, with Grojband creating a Valentine's Day card song, only to cause every couple in Peaceville to break up after Trina sabotages the cards.
* VillainTeamUp:
** Trina with any of the villains in the show, including Captain Tighty Whitey (where she even manages to [[DemotedToDragon take over his crew]] and order him around), the Blue Star of Rocklympus (albeit very briefly due to the ResetButton being pressed immediately after), [[spoiler:and The Orb Experience in the finale.]]
** Also The Orb Experience and the Newmans in "Space Jammin'", although the latter did not do so willingly.
* TheVoiceless: Every band member of The Newmans in the first half of season one, save for Carrie and Konnie (with the latter only having a single line in "Space Jammin'"). Lenny gets his first lines in "Rock the House" while Kim only speaks in "Kon-Fusion".
* WalkThePlank: The result of a "Plankable Offense" in "On the Air and Out to Sea".
* WeirdnessCensor: In "Dance of the Dead", Trina is oblivious to the fact that Nick has turned into a zombie and can only see her own fantasies of him, even when he's trying to bite Mina's head.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse:
** In the finale, Trina, Mina, and Nick are last seen in The Orb Experience's spaceship. They are presumably still there by the end of the episode.
** In "Helmet" after fulfilling their role in the episode, Trina and Mina just disappear with no explanation.
** Despite successfully flooding Peaceville and teaming up with Trina at the end of "Six Strings of Evil", the Blue Star of Rocklympus vanishes with no explanation in the following episode and is never brought up again.
* WhereTheHellIsSpringfield: WordOfGod even says Peaceville is right next to [[WesternAnimation/TheSimpsons Springfield]]. Presumably they were joking, but the point is evident. That said, it is typically believed that the series is set somewhere in Ontario.
* WhiteHairBlackHeart: Scare-master Blade Stabbington, although he actually proves to be pretty affable when not terrifying children.
* WishingForMoreWishes: In "Wish Upon a Jug", Trina uses her third wish to wish for a million wishes from her genie. When Corey says that she can't do that, the genie says that she can and he always wondered why more people didn't do that. Corey then responds by wishing for the same thing from his own genie.
* WrittenSoundEffect: Lots of onomatopoeias, as well as other visual sound effects.
