''[[https://www.youtube.com/user/TheSw1tcher Two Best Friends Play]]'' was a WebOriginal comedy series found on the Machinima [=YouTube=] channel.

The series was an {{MST}} of sorts; two friends named Matt and Pat play video games, argue, and mock the game they are playing and each other. The series does not focus on the two friends; they weren't even named until the second season. According to the show's Platform/{{Facebook}} page, it started when The Switcher (Matt) invited his friend Snapshot King (Pat) over to play ''VideoGame/KirbysEpicYarn'' and record themselves taking their playthrough way too seriously.

The videos are edited so the audience only sees highlights of their gaming session; they are around ten to fifteen minutes long. The friends also have a spin-off show called TBF: Funtime Adventures, an animated show about discussions the two have about games when not playing them.

Since its inception, the concept of "Two Best Friends" has expanded to the "Super Best Friends Zaibatsu", with the inclusion of additional friends Woolie and Liam. More content can be found on their website: [[http://superbestfriendsplay.com Super Best Friends Play,]] which contains several mini-episodes, full-length LetsPlays, and a multitude of themed series, all centered around playing video games hilariously. The show's Facebook page can be found [[http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Two-Best-Friends-Play/193373957342411 here.]]

A recap of all their episodes can be found on the series' [[Recap/TwoBestFriendsPlay Recap]] page. All the pop cultural references are documented on the series' [[ShoutOut/TwoBestFriendsPlay Shout-Out]] page. Their numerous in jokes and running gags can be found on this [[RunningGag/TwoBestFriendsPlay page]].

On December 23, 2016, Liam revealed he would be leaving permanently for mental health reasons (a week earlier, Matt also announced a hiatus due to severe overstress and other real-life complications, but he returned to the channel a month later).

On December 16, 2018, it was revealed that [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8foDBekOYM Super Best Friends would be officially ending,]] with each member going on to focus on their solo projects:

* [[WebVideo/MattMcMuscles Matt]]: His channel [[https://www.youtube.com/@MattMcMuscles/featured Matt McMuscles]] focuses less on full-on Let's Plays (although those and traditional one-offs still remain) and more pre-planned recorded content, such as examining major gaming flops and bugs.
* [[WebVideo/PatStaresAt Pat]]: Streams on Twitch as [[https://www.twitch.tv/patstaresat Pat Stares At.]] On occasion, he also joins his fiancée Paige's streams at her channel, [[https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMaikIXU5cF6nS2YgJPYQsQ Peach]][[https://www.twitch.tv/peachsaliva Saliva.]] Archives from their streams are re-posted on [=YouTube=].
* [[WebVideo/WoolieVersus Woolie]]: Established [[https://www.youtube.com/@WoolieVersus/featured WoolieVersus]] as both a [=YouTube=] and [[https://www.twitch.tv/woolieversus Twitch]] channel. Has a mix of normal Let's Plays, streams, and pre-planned content, usually co-hosted with [[https://www.twitch.tv/SoushinSen Minh]]/"Billy" and fellow fighting-game commentator [[https://twitter.com/chesterr01 Reggie.]] Considered to be the SpiritualSuccessor of the original channel.
* Liam: He still streams on his own channel, [[https://www.twitch.tv/risingsuperstream Rising Superstream]], and continued to occasionally collaborate with the remaining members of the Zaibatsu.

Pat and Woolie still work together on the ''Podcast/CastleSuperBeast'' podcast, a SpiritualSuccessor to the original Super Best Friends Podcast. They also collaborate on occasion with Let's Plays much like their Zaibatsu-era content, beginning with the ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil2Remake'' and continuing onto ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry5''.
----
!!Tropes this series has:

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:# - C]]
* AccidentalMisnaming: In the Salty Bet episodes of Friday Night Fisticuffs, the guys mistakenly identify ''Franchise/TouhouProject'' characters as coming from ''VideoGame/EternalFighterZero''[[note]]This is somewhat understandable as the ''Touhou'' sprites come from ''Scarlet Weather Rhapsody'', which was made by the same creator (Creator/TwilightFrontier) and has a similar art style[[/note]]; however, on two separate occasions they correctly recognize Sakuya as "The girl who fought [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure DIO]]" in ''WebAnimation/OneMinuteMelee''.
* ActorAllusion: In the ''VideoGame/CaptainAmericaSuperSoldier'' video Matt and Pat stop in front of a portrait of Johann Schmidt and take turns wondering why [[Film/TheLordOfTheRings Elrond]], [[Franchise/TheMatrix Agent Smith]], [[Film/TransformersFilmSeries Megatron]], and [[Film/VForVendetta V]] ([[ComicallyMissingThePoint and Red Skull]]) would have portraits in a German castle before running out of Creator/HugoWeaving movies they can remember.
** They also spend the majority of the ''Series/PrisonBreak'' video referring to Michael and Lincoln as [[Film/ResidentEvilAfterlife Chris Redfield]] and [[Film/{{Blade}} Dracula]], respectively.
** In Beyond: Two Souls, anytime Nathan Dawkins (played by Willem Dafoe) appears, the group often jokes about him needing to catch ''Film/SpiderMan1''.
*** Or [[Film/AntiChrist getting nails hammered into his dick]]. [[BreadEggsBreadedEggs Or both simultaneously]].
*** Before the game even starts, when Woolie says that Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe are the only ones that can potentially save this game, Pat quips, "Yeah, you love those [[Film/{{Juno}} hamburger phones]] that [[Film/TheBoondockSaints go crazy and crossdress!]]"
** Their playthrough of the ''[[VideoGame/HarryPotter Harry Potter Kinect]]'' game had the guys making several allusions to ''Film/DieHard'' whenever [[Creator/AlanRickman Snape]] showed up.
--->'''Pat''': (''While viewing a Loading Screen with Snape on it'') Guys, you gotta do potions or else Nakatomi Plaza will go up in flames!
* AIIsACrapshoot: Commented on in the full playthrough of ''Metroid Fusion''.
-->'''Samus:''' I wonder if I can trust this computer, too...\
'''Matt:''' You can't. Don't. When was the last time anyone was better off for trusting a computer?
** Throughly discussed during the ''Mechaweek''. Automated defense systems ALWAYS backfire.
* AlternativeCharacterInterpretation: [[invoked]] Pat and Woolie believe that [[VideoGame/DevilMayCry Dante]] has a massive Oedipus complex towards Trish (who is a clone of his mother), but is otherwise clueless about sex.
* AnachronicOrder: Their videos aren't uploaded in the order they were recorded. [[note]]The episodes on their Machinima channel seem to require more lead time than their full length Lets Plays, owing to the Machinima episodes requiring much more editing. For full LP's, they'll record several hours of a single game at a time and divide those into 20 to 40 minute videos. When it comes time to upload, they almost always have two or more different games (therefore, different recording sessions) updating concurrently.[[/note]] So, when watching videos in the order they're uploaded, it's not uncommon to hear them reference events from other videos that went up later.
* AnalogyBackfire: Matt enjoys deliberately invoking this.
** Matt calls ''VideoGame/HeavyRain'' "the ''VideoGame/GodOfWar'' of video games".
** In the ''Series/PrisonBreak'' video, Matt called Tom Paxton "the [[VideoGame/SplinterCell Sam Fisher]] of video games".
** "Snakes are the locusts of the animal kingdom", according to Matt in the Man Vs Wild LP.
** ''VideoGame/MarioParty9'' is the TabletopGame/{{Risk}} of board games.
** "Doves are the pigeons of the bird world", Matt says of John Woo's movies in ''Yakuza 4''.
* {{Angrish}}:
** In TBFP: ''VideoGame/AmnesiaTheDarkDescent'', [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jWsiyXoTz0 around 10:19,]] Matt encounters a monster and "Wazz-a-BA-jivuh...Kmm-PAT!!"
** When Pat reveals that ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'' is even harder than ''VideoGame/DemonsSouls'', Matt's reaction is an anguished wail.
* AntiClimax:
** During the final round of the [[VideoGame/{{Worms}} Worms 2: Armageddon]] video, Woolie finds a [[StuffBlowingUp Banana Bomb]], an item that provokes a BigYes from the now-spectating Pat and an OhCrap from the surviving Matt. Come the final turn of the video, Woolie has ten seconds to damage Matt enough to put him in the lead, and Pat urges him to use the Banana Bomb. He gets into position, throws it... [[spoiler: ...and it flies across the map, [[OhCrap hits a curve]], [[EpicFail flies back towards Woolie]], and detonates over his head, all to the hysterical laughter of Matt and Pat.]]
** TBFP meets the ''WebVideo/GameGrumps'' had a lot of fans wondering what a GG/TBFP crossover would look like considering the comparisons that have often been drawn. [[spoiler: It's literally just Matt walking by Arin in a hallway and saying "Hey" with no indication that either of them recognizes the other.]]
* ArchEnemy:
** [[Creator/QuanticDream David Cage]].
** [[VideoGame/DefJamSeries Bless]] for Matt.
** For a more controversial example, [[VideoGame/TheWalkingDead Kenny]].
** [[VideoGame/LifeIsStrange Warren]] is this for Liam, though Matt (and most of the audience) believe this is because of [[OtherMeAnnoysMe the surprising similarities between them.]]
** Quint in the [[VideoGame/DeadlyPremonition Deadly Premonition]] playthrough.
* AreYouPonderingWhatImPondering: Matt's description of the final boss from ''No More Heroes 2''.
-->'''Matt:''' He's a billionaire, who owns his own company, his parents were killed, and he shoots ''bats'' at you. ''[...]'' So he's basically a giant Spider-Man!
* ArsonMurderAndJaywalking: At the beginning of the ''VideoGame/EternalDarkness'' playthrough, while Matt's description of the blue artifact undersells it a bit[[labelnote:*;]]It actually turns most enemies into [[TakingYouWithMe suicide bombers]] if they aren't headshotted (which winds up being moot since Pat goes for headshots anyway).[[/labelnote]], Matt's explanation of the Ancient's artifacts and what they do for gameplay definitely comes off this way:
-->'''Matt:''' So, Red: all enemies will [[MadeOfIron be tougher to kill]]...\
'''Pat:''' [[SarcasmMode Great!]]\
'''Matt:''' Green: all enemies will [[GoMadFromTheRevelation drive you more insane]]...\
'''Pat:''' ''Great!''\
'''Matt:''' Blue: all enemies will... explode in a puff of [[ShapedLikeItself blue]].\
'''Pat:''' ...that's it?
** Needless to say, Pat goes with the blue one.
* ArtEvolution: The cartoons used in the title cards and intro animations have gotten more detailed over the seasons, with better proportions and coloring, mainly because Matt did all of the titles before he hired actual animators.
* ArtifactTitle: As the series has progressed, Woolie and Liam have made more and more appearances to the point of being as regular as Matt and Pat. Though some videos featuring them are referred to as "Super Best Friends Play," the series is still called "Two Best Friends Play"
** With the start of their new site, calling them "Super Best Friends", it seems to have gotten more official, where only the Machinima episodes really refer to them as "Two Best Friends Play"
** And finally fully subverted with the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJLUwLafvDg reveal of their new Machinima intro]], which also has Woolie and Liam PromotedToOpeningTitles.
* ArtisticLicenseSpace: Pat remarks that he has "so many problems" with the premise of the first level of ''Mass Effect: Andromeda'', where the heroes have to physically visit the surface of a new planet to determine if it's habitable, and the presence of this trope drives Pat to almost BerserkButton levels of anger.
-->'''Pat:''' You can tell whether or not a planet is habitable FROM SIGHT!
* AscendedFanboy:
** Plague of Gripes and 2Snacks were originally just people who made animations out of audio from Two Best Friends videos. Now they do animations with direct help from the Best Friends.
** Matt lied about meeting Creator/JessicaNigri in his Bomb-Ass Review of Lollipop Chainsaw, Photoshopping a picture with her. By E3 2013, he not only met her, but absolutely made sure it was caught on camera.
** [[DiscussedTrope Discussed]] in the second Christmascast:
---> '''Woolie:''' I can ''hear'' the sound of Indonesianbob's Wacom. I can ''hear it.''
---> '''Pat:''' You came up to me and were like, "Should we hire him or ''stop him?''"
--->'''Woolie:''' I don't know!
--->'''Matt:''' And I said, "You should ''promote'' him. Give him money ''to'' stop."
---> '''Woolie:''' We enabled, and now it's too late.
* AudienceParticipation:
** A week before the ''VideoGame/StreetFighterIII'' video went up the friends put a message on their Facebook page telling them at what time on Friday they would be playing and inviting everyone to join. The online matches make up the middle part of the video. Ditto for ''VideoGame/SoulCalibur V''.
** During the ''Indie Games II'' vid, Pat tells everyone to put pictures of Basking Sharks on the Facebook fan page. In the next week's video, ''VideoGame/MassEffect3'' he urged the fans to stop because they did it far too much.
** A Facebook poll helped fans pick which game would be featured in a TBFP. ''VideoGame/{{Slender}}'' was chosen, much to Pat's [[PaperTiger rage]].
** After the success of the SBFW of ''VideoGame/MetroidOtherM'', they put up a Facebook poll with other possible games to watch, including ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid3SnakeEater'' and ''VideoGame/DeadlyPremonition''. Also in the poll was ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid4GunsOfThePatriots'', which was apparently put in as a joke. Sure enough, it won, much to the chagrin of Matt, Pat, & Woolie.
** After they teased ''VideoGame/AliensColonialMarines'' as their next game in one video, many posts were made telling them they didn't need to play it. They acknowledged this and then played the game ''because'' people said not to play it.
** When Matt got a new cat, he decided to let the fans put it to a vote what they should name him.
** The video for ''VideoGame/SuperMarioMaker'' has the guys playing through levels submitted by fans and verified by Liam.
* BaitAndSwitch
** Matt and Pat play the Platform/{{PS4}}! [[spoiler: They didn't get a [=PS4=] at launch, so instead they played a bunch of NES games instead.]]
** Woolie and Liam play ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII'', [[spoiler: and spend the entire video [[SidetrackedByTheGoldSaucer playing Triple Triad]].]]
** The Best Friends play ''Wu Tang Shaolin Style'' for Saturday Morning Scrublords!... [[spoiler:but give up trying to make the game work 17 minutes in and start playing ''Third Strike'' instead.]]
** The Best Friends play ''VideoGame/BlazBlueCalamityTrigger'' for Friday Night Fisticuffs! [[spoiler: They spend the entire video going through the first 30 minutes of the story mode.]]
** The Best Friends play ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry2''!... [[spoiler:only to learn of its faults (one, for instance, lets you indefinitely juggle enemies with ''just your pistols''), so they skip over it to play ''VideoGame/DevilMayCry3DantesAwakening'' instead.]]
* BeCarefulWhatYouWishFor:
** Pat is a big fan of old-school SurvivalHorror games, with complicated puzzles and tank controls. When playing ''VideoGame/DinoCrisis'' he at one point bemoans that it's "too much" survival horror as he tries to figure out how to do the [[ScrappyMechanic DDK Lock Puzzles]].
** After being disappointed with the lack of weapons in ''VideoGame/DukeNukemForever''.
--> '''Pat''': Give me a gun already!
--> [He immediately gets a gun and test fires it]
--> '''Pat''': ...This gun feels ''terrible''!
* BeardOfSorrow: In the ending cutscene of ''Heavy Rain'', Matt notes that Ethan has shaved his "mourning beard".
* BearsAreBadNews: Matt and Pat learn this the hard way after encountering two bears in the woods in ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedIII''.
* BerserkButton:
** One of the zombie files in VideoGame/LollipopChainsaw mentioned a teacher who flunked a student for being ginger. This pissed [[FieryRedhead Pat]] off to no end.
** Don't mention Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII around Pat either...
** We also now know a little more about Pat's education and background, which makes his anger at certain sequences in ''[[VideoGame/{{Fahrenheit}} Indigo Prophecy]]'' all the more understandable.
** Within the ''Walking Dead'' playthrough, Matt becomes agitated at Pat's repeated insistence that he's doing things too slowly, or making immoral choices. He takes particular umbrage with [[spoiler: The Stranger]] for his ReasonYouSuckSpeech at the end of the game, deeming it unjustified.
--->'''[[spoiler: The Stranger]]''': You're a monster.
--->'''Matt''': No, I'm not.
--->'''[[spoiler: The Stranger]]''': You're a murderer and a thief...
--->'''Matt''': NO, I'M NOT!
--->'''[[spoiler: The Stranger]]''': ... and I'm going to hurt you so bad.
--->'''Matt''': What?!
* BewareTheNiceOnes:
** Despite Matt's preference for LighterAndSofter games, he's quick to dismiss FirstPersonShooter games that don't include shotguns. And then there's [[VideoGameCrueltyPotential his behavior]] while playing ''VideoGame/DeusExHumanRevolution'', his body-stomping behavior in ''VideoGame/DeadSpace2'', and his apparent delight in mutilating dead bodies in general.
** In season 4, Matt shows a tendency to teabag.
** Their ''VideoGame/TheWalkingDead'' play through also reveals that Matt's zombie survival plan is [[MercyKill shockingly pragmatic]].
-->'''Matt:''' Pat, if you turned into a zombie, I would shoot you with no hesitation.
* BehindTheBlack: In the intro segment to ''Predator: Concrete Jungle'', Woolie doesn't notice the game being on Matt's TV until the camera pans over, despite sitting on the couch directly opposite it.
* BigBallOfViolence: Featured in the third version of the opening theme (introduced midway through season 2).
* BigNo:
** Pat does ''not'' want to chip in to buy the full version of ''Vampire Rain''.
** Matt's response to having to play ''VideoGame/ShaqFu''.
** Both Pat and Matt give one at the end of the ''Star Trek'' video when their next destination is revealed to be ''VideoGame/AliensColonialMarines''
* BigWhat: Their reaction to Ocelot's meowing in ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid3SnakeEater''.
* BigWordShout: [[spoiler:At the end of the ''ComicBook/CaptainAmerica'' video, Matt screams '''''"AMERICAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"''''' as he makes Captain America jump at a Nazi robot.]]
* BittersweetEnding:
** 2016 was this for the channel: They managed to beat ''VideoGame/OmikronTheNomadSoul'', but in the process Matt had to take a months-long vacation due to stress, and Liam left the channel to pursue streaming.
** 2018 has becoming the final year for the Zaibatsu, as Matt and Pat couldn't keep enjoying doing stuff together, so due to a mutual decision they and Woolie decided to go their separate ways and focus on their solo endeavors.
* BlackDudeDiesFirst:
** In the beginning of ''VideoGame/DeadSpace2'' Isaac is being treated by a black doctor. Pat talks about how helpful this new best friend will be right before he's killed and mutated by a necromorph. Then humorously lampshaded a few minutes later.
-->'''Matt:''' Not a good day, my super best friend black guy, just totally--\
'''Pat:''' Yeah, Franco really bought it.
** There's also their black best friend Woolie. Who 'died' first when fighting Daigo at EVO.
*** Subverted when playing against Matt and Pat though; he tends to beat them more often than not.
*** Subverted in the Dark Souls 2 video, wherein Matt dies far more often, and sooner, than Woolie does.
** Joked about in ''VideoGame/UntilDawn''. They said there was no black members of the cast as they knew they would die first.
* BlackComedy: As time has gone on, they have gotten A LOT more open about their black humor.
-->'''Matt:''' (As a horse) If you don't think I'm tough, ask Christopher Reeves!
* BlackComedyRape: The discussion of Catherine raping Vincent in the ''VideoGame/{{Catherine}}'' video.
* BlindIdiotTranslation: The "English" version of one of the Xbox Indie games they play, ''Legend of the Dragonflame Highschool''.
-->'''Matt:''' *reading aloud* YOU DO NOT HAVE THE VETO BECAUSE I HAVE KIDNAPPED MIYUKI OF YOUR YOUNGER SISTER.
* BondOneLiner:
** ''VideoGame/RiseOfNightmares'' is full of them doing these, in response to nearly every single NPC's death.
** Everything that isn't skeeving on Creator/EmmaStone or doing insane vehicle stunts in their ''VideoGame/{{Sleeping Dogs|2012}}'' is basically making bad puns to go with the environment-related damage.
** In ''Survival'', after killing a bear, Matt quips "Man, we '''barely''' got away from that encounter!"
** After the news breaks that the much hated Vic van Lier has died in a car crash in ''Livin' Da Dream'', they quip, "Well, he’s not bringing that car back spick and span!"
* BoomHeadshot: In the introduction for the Tomb Raider (2013) video, Matt attempts to score a date with Lara by absorbing a hail of arrows with his body. Pat tries to one-up him by taking a shotgun blast to the head for her. The ground abruptly opens and swallows Lara up (who explodes), leaving Pat upset and with his skull split in half.
* BookEnds: At the beginning of the ''Predator: Concrete Jungle'' [=LP=], Matt tricks Woolie into participating by telling him that they would be playing ''VideoGame/Persona4Arena'' instead, then ambushing him with ''Predator'' when he arrived. At the very end of the LP, Woolie asks if they can finally play ''Persona'' now.
** In ''Super Best Friends VS: Dark Souls II'' Woolie defeats the very first enemy he encounters by shooting magic through a hole where he can't be touched. All the while Pat yells to cheat if you can't beat the enemy regularly. Then in the ''Dark Souls II'' LP, the very last enemy they engage, [[spoiler:Darklurker gets stuck in a wall and is unable to retaliate while Woolie wails on it.]] So both the very first and the very last enemy Woolie fights were defeated through some form of cheating.
** A rather grim example, but the channel started with Matt and Pat not being friends, and then ended with them not being friends.
* BootstrappedTheme: "Green Greens" was only used as the opening music for the pilot episode because they were playing a VideoGame/{{Kirby}} game, but it was used as their opening theme from then on out. Their other works sometimes have various remixes of the theme, like their Friendcasts, Super Best Friends Play series, and ''Bloodborne'' and ''Deus Ex: Human Revolution'' let's plays.
* BoringButPractical: Whenever they play this way, it's usually accompanied by one or both saying "Just lame it out like it's [[VideoGame/StreetFighterXTekken Cross Tekken]]".
* BorrowedCatchPhrase: During the ''VideoGame/LollipopChainsaw'' video, Matt and Pat have invited several friends to hang out while they record, and they don't always stay quiet:
-->'''Matt:''' I love how the town has a farm, a stadium, a gigantic arcade machine as a building, and one school.
-->'''Girl:''' AMERICA!
-->'''Matt:''' *laughs* Nice.
* BreadEggsBreadedEggs: During the ''VideoGame/ManVsWild'' LetsPlay, the ground begins shaking while they're on the deserted island.
-->'''Matt:''' I hope it's a dinosaur.
-->'''Pat:''' I hope it's a volcano.
-->'''Matt:''' I hope it's a volcanic dinosaur.
* BrickJoke:
** Early on in the ''VideoGame/MortalKombatShaolinMonks'' video, they established that unlike some of the other games they have played co-op, they actually are working together and can't kill each other. Matt points out that they'll probably find a way to kill each other later. Sure enough, they did.
** In the Funtime Adventures episode ''Draw or Die'', Pat mentions that anything could be in the void him and Matt fall into, including "mummified lobsters." [[spoiler: Three guesses as to what ambushes them at the end of the video.]]
** In ''VideoGame/CabelasDangerousHunts 2013'', Matt and Pat argue over whether hippos are rad or not. [[spoiler: Guess what kills them when Pat decides to run through a marsh near the end of the video...]]
** In part 34 of their Dark Souls II LP, Pat tells Woolie the "Dark Souls way" to play is to kill every NPC to [[OneHundredPercentCompletion get their drop items]] when you finish the game and start New Game+. Right after finishing the game, Woolie murders every NPC in Majula.
** In the second episode of the ''VideoGame/{{Bloodborne}}'' playthrough, Pat and Woolie get killed by the lone Executioner in Yharnam. Three episodes later, the boys decide to get revenge by testing out their newly acquired Kirkhammer on it. They kill the Executioner successfully and, because they hadn't died again up to that point, end up getting ''all'' their stolen Blood Echoes back that they previously forgot about.
* BrokenRecord: [[VideoGame/MetroidOtherM The Baby The Baby The Baby The Baby The Baby]]...
* BuffySpeak:
** Matt does a light version of this on occasion.
-->'''Pat:''' You don't know what incognito means.\
'''Matt:''' It means that no one can see me...with...their eyeballs.
** And later in that same game they discuss going into "sneaky-stab mode".
** In ''VideoGame/{{Portal 2}}'', the word science gets abused. "Science it up. You're science-ing right now!"
* ButHeSoundsHandsome: In any game where your character is undercover and their profession is being insulted, Matt always says "Oh yeah, I hate X. With their devilish good looks and large penises!"
* ButtMonkey:
** Woolie. Anytime they talk about Woolie, it's to make fun of something he said or did.
** Though it should be noted, when Woolie and Matt do videos on their own, they have no problem with making fun of Pat.
** The one person all three of them can agree on making fun of is their friend James Small, who is apparently British and loves weird Japanese games like ''VideoGame/WayOfTheSamurai4''. They also poke fun at him for liking ComicBook/{{Cyclops}} as a character and the Dreamcast as a video game console.
* CallBack:
** Pat makes Matt play ''VideoGame/SilentHillShatteredMemories'' because Matt made Pat play ''[[VideoGame/KirbysEpicYarn Epic Yarn]]''.
** Pat makes Matt play ''VideoGame/DeadRising2'' so they can fight some monsters that are actually monstrous, unlike the crappy vampires in ''Vampire Rain''.
** In the ''Dead Rising 2: Off The Record'' video, Matt brings up the fact that unicorns can be called ponies and says that Pat would know all about that, bringing up the fact that he had a WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic desktop at the end of the ''VideoGame/AmnesiaTheDarkDescent'' video.
*** And in Funtime Adventures episode 1, you can see Celestia and Luna toys in a shelf behind Pat, also the colours of the ice cream is the same as the princesses' manes. Also, during the scene where Matt picks up a muffin, Derpy Hooves makes a brief cameo.
** In ''VideoGame/{{Sleeping Dogs|2012}}'', they punch through a bus. In ''VideoGame/TheAmazingSpiderMan'', they encounter a glitchy bus that appears to be quivering in fear of them.
** In their Shitstorm of Scariness videos, the logo features a distorted image of a Basking Shark, presumably a callback to their audience participation.
** They harass the villagers with money in the ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedIII'' video like they did in the ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedRevelations'' video.
** Practically anytime now when they get a fire ax as a weapon, they makes references to their ''Silent Hill: Downpour'' Let's Play. Also to a lesser extent they sometimes use the "Tour Guide Richard Nixon" voice as well.
** In their brawl for ''VideoGame/AnarchyReigns'', they show a character select screen. Along with Matt, Woolie, and Pat, the other characters were all callbacks to previous videos.[[note]]The other characters were a Basking Shark, Zubaz from Fighterpedia, Bear Grylls drinking his own urine, the Baby Metroid, the Fire Ax Matt threw in ''Downpour'', the Mummy Lobster, and Hitomi J-Cup. In their ''Mario Kart'' Brawl, Bear Grylls was replaced by Rising Superstar Liam[[/note]]
** In the beginning of the second ''Funtime Adventures'' episode, Matt is searching through a box labeled '''PORN''' written in black marker and looking at box art for ''Weaponlord'', a call back to their '''Fighterpedia''' episode, ''Play Weaponlord Immediately''.
** The final match in their ''WWE 13'' brawl has Matt, Pat and Woolie reprising their custom characters from ''WWF No Mercy'' (The Shockmaster, Reptile and Zubaz respectively.)
** In their ''Dead Rising 3'' episode, taking the fact that Dick kinda looks like [[VideoGame/FatalFury Terry Bogard]], Matt inserts some of Terry's Engrish quotes, referencing a video he did a LONG time ago for the King of Fighters live-action film on his original deleted channel.
** In the ''Fighter Within'' episode, Pat [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere immediately tries to bail]] when he realizes the game uses Kinect, but is convinced to tough it out when Matt offers him a sixpack of Mountain Dew. Later, Liam pulls the same tactic with Matt in the ''Galgun'' episode of Anime Bullshit (this time with a megapack of Kraft Mac and Cheese), complete with Matt giving the same groan of defeat Pat did.
** When they try the hang-glider in ''VideoGame/FarCry4'', Pat notices that there's a 'bail' button for dropping out of the glider mid-flight. Matt immediately recalls when Pat tricked him into committing suicide with the parachute in ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedBrotherhood'' through a similar mechanic.
* TheCameo: [[spoiler:[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Derpy Hooves]]]] makes a quick appearance in the first episode of Two Best Friends Funtime Adventures.
** Most all of the Rustlemania 2 videos are opened by a guest intro. These have included LetsPlay/{{Slowbeef}}, [[Creator/TeamFourStar Takahata101]], [[Characters/TwoBestFriendsPlay Plague of Gripes]], ZONE-tan, and even [[spoiler: ''[[Creator/SteveBlum Steve freakin' Blum]]'']].
* CareerEndingInjury: Liam's departure from the show was reported due to Carpal Tunnel damage in addition to mental fatigue.
* CatchPhrase:
** Probably the most famous of Matt's is "[[PatrioticFervor America!]]" when he sees something patriotic or sometimes just at random. This has actually been toned down since the early days of the show, but references to the concept still pop up, and Matt's character background will forever be red, white and blue, despite the boys being Canadian.
** "What a mysterious game."
** The only other catchphrase that has kept up with them over the years seems to be "It's fine! It's fine!" for token reassurance when facing their many trials.
** "It's more than you'd think, but less than you'd hope."
*** When they both find out that [[VideoGame/DeadlyPremonition Harry]] says that exact same line, the two couldn't believe it.
** "GOD-FUCKING-DAMMIT!!" seems to be a favourite of Pat's.
** "It's not 100% clear."
** "There's no time!" has become popular, probably based off the final chapter of ''[[Videogame/TheWalkingDead The Walking Dead]]'' called ''No Time Left'' which they both agreed was an awesome name. "It's unpatchable" also comes from their ''Walking Dead'' play through.
** From their recent ''[[VideoGame/{{Fahrenheit}} Indigo Prophecy]]'' playthrough, "X is the failure of the game designer."
** "Gotta get the cash, gotta get the dough", which is from a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXmTtumpKG8 song]] in ''VideoGame/AnarchyReigns''
** Whenever James Small is mentioned the phrase "You can fuck off the edge of my dick" or variations of it is almost always used.
** "You LOVE it!" used by either when the other complains about an aspect of the game.
*** "He loves it!" - a variation usually said by Matt when an enemy in a video game doesn't react at all to whatever weapon or tactic is being used on them.
** "I made ze bad game." It was first used by Pat in [[VideoGame/{{Fahrenheit}} Indigo Prophecy]] and was picked up by Matt later in the same LP and which he carried over into VideoGame/BeyondTwoSouls.
** "This game is for babies!" Said mockingly by Matt when someone's having trouble with an E-rated game.
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpJ-RqjimUc "Excuse me, sir."]] said by Pat in their ''VideoGame/TheEvilWithin'' playthrough whenever an enemy interrupts him in the middle of doing something. Lampshaded later in the LP when Pat realises just how often he says it.
** "Girls are watching" Said by Matt whenever a member of the Zaibatsu is engaged in difficult gameplay or messing up.
** Pat has another phrase he tends to say at random moments: "[[Franchise/ScoobyDoo Ruh-roh]]".
** Ever since encountering [[VideoGame/{{Undertale}} Onionsan,]] Matt has actively picked up the monster's use of the phrase "Big Favorite." He eventually has taken to adding "Big" to any word for emphasis. The other best friends have occasionally adopted this.
* CelebCrush:
** In ''VideoGame/{{Sleeping Dogs|2012}}'', Matt is appropriately starstruck when he finds out Creator/EmmaStone is in the game.
---> ''During the opening credits''
---> '''Pat''': (referring to Jackie) Oh, he's that skeez-ball that you use.
---> '''Matt''': '''''EMMA STONE!?!'''''
---> '''Pat''': Calm down.
** Of the porn star kind, Matt also has a deep and repeated attraction to Hitomi "J-Cup" Tanaka.
** The Super Best Friends Podcast has revealed Matt's attraction to Creator/AubreyPlaza. Judging by comments during Rustlemania, Pat appears to be slightly into her too.
* ChekhovsGag: At the very end of the ''Detroit: Become Human'' LP, Pat declared [[spoiler:that they should play the whole game again, immediately. Matt and Woolie seemingly talked him out of it... then their second playthrough of ''Detroit'' commenced a week later.]]
* ChekhovsGun: At the beginning of ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedBrotherhood'', Matt has trouble reading the control instructions that appear on the screen. Then at the end of the video, Matt listens to Pat [[ForTheEvulz who tells him to press B to make the parachute glide faster]], instead of reading the instructions on screen that say pressing B will make the parachute collapse.
** During the start of the Friday Night Fisticuffs for ''VideoGame/UnderNightInBirth'', Liam comments that the game is "not American Mortal Kombat swill." Matt later responds that ''VideoGame/MortalKombatArmageddon'' is waiting for them to play it. They eventually play ''Armageddon'' the week after... as a Scrublords.
* ChestMonster: A monster disguised as a missile upgrade (in ''VideoGame/MetroidFusion'') prompts Matt and Woolie to wonder about the evolutionary history of animal species that mimic powerups.
* ChildHater: Matt generally looks at child characters is disdain; just look at the YMMV page for his hated characters. Even with the characters he doesn't hate, it takes a while to warm up to them. Pat is a played-with example, as he takes JerkassWithAHeartOfGold stance toward them and would [[FriendToAllChildren urge Matt to take the choices that doesn't hurt them]].
** Woolie really wants you to kill children when they are video games antagonist.
* ComedicSociopathy:
** After a StunnedSilence as the protagonist of ''VideoGame/HeavyRain'' mourns the death of his son, Matt quips "Man, what a loser."
** In ''Gears of War 3'' Pat complements Dom's [[spoiler:[[BeardOfSorrow "Wife Killing Beard"]]]].
** When Matt runs into the first character in VideoGame/RiseOfNightmares, the first thing both of them think is to try and beat her with a lead pipe.
*** After Matt gets scared after Pat's jump scare, Pat proceeds to mock Matt's terror.
** In ''Walking Dead: Survival Instinct,'' Matt immediately shoots the first NPC he sees. [[NoSell The NPC does not react.]]
* ContinuityNod:
** Matt speculates that [[VideoGame/DukeNukemForever Duke Nukem]] may be a Time Cop, repeating a running gag from the SNES video.
** During their review of ''[[VideoGame/AmnesiaTheDarkDescent Amnesia]]'', an independent PC game, Matt points out that they haven't had the best track record with indie games, referring to their look at Xbox Live Indie Games.
** In the ''ComicBook/CaptainAmerica'' video, Matt thinks he can do the same attacks that Captain America can do in ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3''.
** In the ''VideoGame/DeusExHumanRevolution'' video, Matt sings the "science" song from the ''VideoGame/{{Portal 2}}'' episode and repeats the "WE'RE GOING TO MAKE IT OUT OF THIS!" gag from ''VideoGame/DeadSpace2''.
** During ''VideoGame/{{Catherine}}'', Matt says that he once watched Bear Grylls eat sheep eyes.
** During the VideoGame/DeadIsland mini-episode, they [[VideoGame/ResidentEvil4 call the zombies]] [[NotAZombie "zambamboes" and "zimbies"]] a few times.
*** This gets taken up to running gag status in the Shitstorm of Scariness videos.
** During ''Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon'', Pat goes berserk and starts shooting Matt once the latter says that [[Franchise/MortalKombat invisibility]] is stupid.
** Whenever something resembling a fetus is shown, they immediately assume it's some sort of sequel to ''Baby Maker Extreme''.
** Matt claims Pat will be an expert at ''Off the Record'' when he spots a couple of unicorn and pony heads, a reference to Matt discovering Pat's [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic desktop wallpaper]] in the ''[[VideoGame/AmnesiaTheDarkDescent Amnesia]]'' video.
** Matt and Pat think the SassyBlackWoman they run into in ''Off the Record'' is the same SassyBlackWoman from ''[[VideoGame/DeusExHumanRevolution Human Revolution]]'', or at least talk to her like she is.
** Matt explains the story of ''VideoGame/KaneAndLynch'' to Pat during the ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid'' video like how Pat explained to Matt ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid'' in the ''Kane & Lynch'' video.
** Matt mentions "Mummy-Lobster 2012" in the ''VideoGame/{{Sleeping Dogs|2012}}'' video, a nod to the second Funtime Adventures video, [[spoiler: where at the end Matt and Pat get mauled by a mummified lobster.]]
* CovertPervert:
** Whenever Matt runs into a lady [=NPC=] in ''VideoGame/RiseOfNightmares'', he hovers the hand icon over their chests or butts.
--->'''Pat''': Okay man, I wasn't exactly gonna ask or anything, but why won't you stop touching all the- ''(cut to next clip)''
** Matt tries to be covert in ''VideoGame/LollipopChainsaw'', but Pat easily catches on, especially when the game rewards Matt for being a pervert.
* {{Countrystan}}: {{Discussed|Trope}} by the Super Best Friends Zaibatsu in certain videos, with the name "Fakelandistan". It's brought up again in a podcast episode, when they are discussing an attempt by the president of Kazakhstan to change the name to avert this trope. Pat theorizes that the negative reputation of certain countries with this nomenclature may be the reason.
* CoversAlwaysLie: The thumbnail and intro for the ''Devil May Cry 3'' LP show [[GenderBender Matt as Lady]], despite the fact that only Pat and Woolie are playing the game.
* ClusterFBomb: Both guys swear all the time, usually in frustration, though Pat casually replaces other nouns with "shit". Here's a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SI1UN8S6dQA compilation video]] of all their swearing between ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountryReturns'' and ''VideoGame/DeadlyPremonition''. It's fifteen minutes long.
* {{Crossover}}:
** ''[[https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLmP_kiQtxzkwNoN5V20_5OopM9D7Ml7kc Two Best Sisters Play,]]'' where Princesses Celestia and Luna from ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' play the roles of Matt and Pat. It's a side project by 2snacks (creator of ''TBFP'''s opening animations) and it's [[ApprovalOfGod Matt and Pat approved]].
** In the ''Predator: Concrete Jungle'' playthrough, Matt and Woolie discuss how awesome it would be to stick Predators into other series/genres. They come up with ''[[WackyCollege Predator University]]'', ''[[{{Series/Seinfeld}} Predator Seinfeld]]'', and ''[[Series/MarriedWithChildren Married... with Predators]]''.
** ''[[http://youtu.be/39TUFxSGtYE?t=6m45s Two Best Friends Play E3 2013]]'' finally has the Two Best Friends meet the WebVideo/GameGrumps.
*** Now a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52Gzp8mQms4 reality!]]
** Two on the podcast: SBFC #63, which has the appearance of [[WebOriginal/TheOnlineWarrior Max]] [[WebOriginal/AssistMe Christiansen]] as a guest, and SBFC #81, which has the guys interviewing Guy Cihi, otherwise known as [[VideoGame/SilentHill2 James Sunderland]].
** The Zaibatsu collaborated with Max again... kinda. To explain: the guys did [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UnGL4SMntcY a Saturday Morning Scrublords video on]] VideoGame/BioFreaks, where they play through the game's arcade mode on [[EasierThanEasy Very Easy]] and call out Max and co. for being "too scurred" to play the game for Boss Rage. Max, Steve, and Kenny then did a ''[[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3cAwjjnWiQ seven hour livestream]]'' of the game for Boss Rage ''on [[HarderThanHard Freak difficulty]]'', the last three hours of which were spent on the final boss alone. And they beat him.
* CurbStompBattle:
** When Matt or Pat (they are not sure who) invites their friend Woolie to play ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3'' with them, he brings his own arcade controller and tears Pat to bits. The friends are not amused.
--->'''Woolie (as X-23):''' Yeah it's kind of unblockable when you're jumping in, and you're at level three.\
'''Pat:''' Sh-shut up, shut up. Just get out.\
'''Matt:''' Get out!\
'''Pat:''' Get the fuck out!\
'''Matt:''' Get ouuuuuut!\
''(cut to credits)''
** The winner of ''Super Best Friends Brawl: VideoGame/AnarchyReigns'' should be very clear by the halfway point of the video. Complete with trash talking the other two (more than usual) for the entire video.
** ''VideoGame/PerfectDark'' also had one. Once again, with Pat being the one doing the stomping. It seems that when he does win a brawl, it's through one of these.
** Pat manages this again in the ''VideoGame/ForHonor'' brawl against Woolie and Matt whenever he has the controller.
* CutShort:
** The ''VideoGame/SonicUnleashed'' playthrough with Matt, Woolie and Liam was never completed, due to Liam quitting the channel indefinitely on December 23rd, 2016.
** With the entire group disbanding on December 16th, 2018, their playthroughs of ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsI'' and ''VideoGame/StarTrekTheVideoGame'' are left incomplete.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:D - H]]
* DecapitatedArmy: The end result of [[spoiler: Rage defeating Zubaz in the Hell in a Cell match at the end of the Zaibatsu PPV. Rage dismantles the Order of the Storm Feelers and even gets [=FemBaz=] to turn into [=FemRage=], paving the way for the Rage World Order.]]
* DeadpanSnarker: Both of them are a couple of smartasses. For example, during ''VideoGame/FistOfTheNorthStarKensRage'' when they are reading the move list:
-->'''Matt:''' The moves are probably super complicated.\
''Goes to move list, normal attack is eight x's in a row''\
'''Pat:''' Holy fucking shit are you serious?\
'''Matt:''' Okay, let me write down what normal attack is.\
'''Pat:''' Okay: x, x, x, x, x, x, x, x.\
'''Matt:''' What was after the fifth x?\
'''Pat:''' x, x, x.\
'''Matt:''' Okay.\
'''Pat:''' x.
** Liam, however, possesses the smartest ass in the Zaibatsu by far, so much so that "Stinger Zinger Liam" is one of his nicknames.
--> '''[[VideoGame/LifeIsStrange Chloe]]''': I do feel safer having a nine millimeter in my pants.
--> '''Liam''': I know Pat knows that feeling.
* DistractedByTheSexy: Matt in general. Invoked almost exactly by name during the ''VideoGame/KirbysReturnToDreamland'' playthrough, in which Matt inadvertently kills Pat through the game's IntimateHealing mechanic.
-->'''Matt:''' You got distracted by our makeouts!
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: During the ''VideoGame/DisasterDayOfCrisis'' episode they watch a tower collapse in a manner similar to the World Trade Center. Matt asks Pat flat out if it seems familiar. Pat says it reminds him of ''VideoGame/BionicCommando'', [[MoodWhiplash then drinks a container of orange juice larger than the character's head]].
* TheDogBitesBack: Matt, after being the butt-end of jokes and forced to play ''VideoGame/{{Persona 4}}'' goes to save his game on Pat's memory stick. While Pat is preening over his OneHundredPercentCompletion save file, Matt quickly overwrites it with his own progress.
* DontExplainTheJoke: From the ''VideoGame/DeusExHumanRevolution'' episode on Matt displays a tendency to say "Oh, it's like sex" after any DoubleEntendre joke.
* DontThinkFeel: Matt suggest this during ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountryReturns''. Pat doesn't listen.
-->'''Matt:''' If you think we die.\
'''Pat:''' What is up with you and saying that?\
''Pat dies''\
'''Matt:''' You thought!\
'''Pat:''' Oh, you're right, I totally did! I thought about what a dick you are. ''(dies again)'' Fuck, I guess I was thinking it again!
* {{Doorstopper}}: The VideoGame/KnightsOfTheOldRepublic LP is currently the title holder of the longest LP on the channel at a whopping ''99'' episodes, dethroning previous title holder Dark Souls 2 (83 Episodes). This has contributed to the general sense of ArcFatigue some people feel for the LP.
* DoubleEntendre[=/=]ThatsWhatSheSaid: Pops up often.
** From the ''Donkey Kong Country Returns'' episode:
--->'''Matt:''' Blow him! Blow him.... I mean, blow ''on'' him.
** In the ''VideoGame/FistOfTheNorthStarKensRage'' episode:
--->''Matt's getting his ass handed to him by Kenshiro''\
'''Pat:''' You just took it all up in your face. Bet you're used to that too!
** This early joke from the ''Mortal Kombat Shaolin Monks'' episode:
--->'''Matt:''' It's so long.
--->'''Pat:''' That's what she said. [[DontExplainTheJoke About my dick]]. She said it about my dick.
--->'''Matt:''' I don't-
--->'''Pat:''' When she said that, she was talking about my dick.
** This exchange from the ''VideoGame/{{Sleeping Dogs|2012}}'' episode:
---> '''Pat''': (while betting on a cockfight) I don't know which one to choose!
---> '''NPC''': My cock is the best.
---> '''Pat''': That one. That one's the winner.
---> '''Matt''': His cock will destroy all other cocks.
---> '''Pat''': My cock is supreme. Cannot be beaten.
---> ''Later, after they win the bet''
---> '''Pat''': You won!
---> '''Matt''': I won! I won all of the cocks!
* [[invoked]]DudeNotFunny:
** Averted thanks to the PowerOfFriendship in the Disaster: Day of Crisis. During the chaos in the city when a building is seen collapsing Matt points "Does that remind you of anything? Not really uh." When Pat asks Matt what he thinks Matt quickly takes it back and refuses to comment. Pat then comments it reminds him of ''VideoGame/BionicCommando''.
** Pat has at times expressed his distaste for some games that utilize RapeAsDrama, despite their use of BlackComedyRape.
** They originally planned a ''VideoGame/BioshockInfinite'' episode but didn't do it because they felt that with the game's controversial content, they would have come off as insensitive.
** At the end of the ''VideoGame/BeyondTwoSouls'' playthrough, Woolie hopes that the next David Cage game ends with his suicide note. Pat calls him out on it, saying that it's too much while Matt says the next game should end with a Kickstarter to stop David Cage.
** Their Dragon's Crown video has Liam making a "trigger warning" joke. Woolie actually says that Liam likes to make statements like that where it would be impossible for them to edit out his audio.
* DullSurprise: In the ''Captain America'' video, the two friends make fun of Captain America's default expression, which looks extremely bored.
* DumbassDJ: Chewie and Fuckface, based on Han Solo and Chewbacca's cameo at the end of the Franchise/StarWars Film/TheForceAwakens trailer. Apparently, they can travel through time to interrupt the inventors of the radio.
* DumbStruck:
** What happens to Matt at the end of the ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountryReturns'' video when he wastes their last life jumping over a cliff which he thought might have a token under it.
-->'''Pat:''' Why won't you say anythin-*cut to credits*
** In the ''VideoGame/EternalDarkness'' LetsPlay, Pat ignores Matt's advice to play it safe and dies to a swinging blades trap. Matt is completely silent.
* {{Eagleland}}: Matt likes to invoke Type 1.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Woolie makes his first appearance in the ''Marvel vs Capcom'' video as the nameless friend that kicks Matt and Pat's butts.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness:
** In the original ''VideoGame/KirbysEpicYarn'' video, Matt and Pat's now-traditional roles were reversed, with Pat being the goofball and Matt being the straight man.
** In earlier Machinima episodes, Matt and Pat would enforce their roles as the stupid, childish one and the abusive, angry one, respectively. They would also feign ignorance on certain subjects (evident in the ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3'' episode). When they started doing full playthroughs on their channel, they dropped the acts and started acting more naturally. It can be strange to watch the older episodes and see where they're acting.
* EmptyRoomPsych: Discussed while playing ''The Last of Us''. Matt and Pat refer to the many dead-end rooms with no powerups or enemies as "anti-rooms". Pat is legitimately impressed that the developers went to the trouble of including such a large variety of anti-rooms.
* EnemyMine:
** In the Def Jam Brawl two of the trio ganged up in the pissed-off third one. All of them did and suffered this through the matches.
** [[spoiler: Seems to be setting up as of Episode 3 of Walking Dead Season 2. They despise Kenny, but seem to understand that Carver is a much bigger threat.]]
* EnforcedPlug: [[ExecutiveMeddling Machinima]] included a 10 second Xbox One ad at the beginning of their ''Fighter Within'' video (a.k.a. "KINECT GO DIE!")
* EpicFail:
** Matt "failing everything" in ''VideoGame/DeadRising2''.
-->'''Pat:''' You failed everything! You have literally failed everything. The whole game is over now, but it'll still let you play it, to let you know how you fucked it up so bad.\
'''Matt:''' [[ComicallyMissingThePoint At least I was wearing sweet cut-offs]].
** Pat's LP of ''VideoGame/TheLastOfUs'' is (in)famous for this. He dies at least once per video, he constantly misses plot critical items, and in general makes a complete fool of himself on more than on occasion. In fact, the questionable quality of the LP quickly became a RunningGag in future videos.
** His LP of ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil4'' also went this way, to the point where the TBFP wiki was keeping a ''running count'' of his deaths and epic fails, everything from missing treasure to accidentally shooting Ashley (twice!).
** Woolie has had a number of these in Dark Souls II, mostly from getting turned around (while they're attempting to head back to Things Betwixt he repeatedly turns around to head back towards Majula for no reason) or, in the case of Part 54, he attempts to fight Royal Sorcerer Navlaan (who has a lot of very powerful Dark spells that can kill you very quickly) ''two handed, without his shield.'' Needless to say he dies multiple times before just saying "Screw it" and doing everything he can to avoid fighting Navlaan again.
** Pat and Liam's full [=LP=] of ''[[VideoGame/SuperMarioRPG Super Mario RPG.]]'' How bad is it? It took them seven episodes to figure out there is a [=RUN=] button.
** Pat running the playthrough of ''VideoGame/XCOM2'' on Commander difficulty, with Ironman enabled. He only succeeds in a single mission (the very first one), and [[FailureIsTheOnlyOption every other mission]] ends with the objectives failed and usually only a single survivor on Pat's squad ([[TotalPartyKill and sometimes not even that]]). He barely has enough resources to sustain his research and replace his losses, and the campaign ultimately ends [[{{Permadeath}} with the completion of the Avatar Project]]. He even had ''zero'' damage dealt to an enemy at one point (he was too weak to complete a vital black site mission, so he tried a crash and grab that failed).
-->'''[=YouTube=] Commentator:''' "If this [=LP=] was a dog, [[MercyKill I'd take it out back and shoot it]]..."
** While Matt manages to do pretty well [[spoiler:and ultimately manages to get Kara and Alice out alive]] in ''VideoGame/DetroitBecomeHuman'', the same cannot be said for Pat and Woolie. Pat constantly ends up getting Connor [[TheyKilledKennyAgain killed]], tanking his affinity with Hank, and his attempts to get into Hank's good graces usually fall flat on their face, [[spoiler:ultimately culminating in Pat ending Connor's story in a literally unwinnable life or death situation due to failing to get enough affinity with Hank to learn about Cole]]. Meanwhile, Woolie's constant cowardice and refusal to take risks leads him to constantly cripple Jericho's power, turn the public against the revolution, and make Markus make an utter fool of himself to the other revolutionaries, ultimately culminating in [[spoiler:getting Markus gunned down during the Freedom March, dooming the revolution]]. This ended up being such a colossal fail that the trio decided to ''replay'' the game entirely (a first for the channel) in the hopes of getting a better ending.
*** Pat's failure is especially noteworthy as [[spoiler:only '''1%''' of all players managed to [[EarnYourBadEnding get the ending he did]].]]
* EveryoneHasStandards: Despite his legendary poor taste in games, even Matt gets fed up with ''VideoGame/DrakeOfThe99Dragons'' quite quickly.
* ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin: It's about two best friends who play video games together.
* ExpospeakGag:
** During the ''VideoGame/PunchOut'' video, when Pat references a [[http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/stole-my-bike certain meme]]:
-->'''Pat:''' I think that black gentleman may have acquired that man's bicycle.\
'''Matt:''' Do you now?\
'''Pat:''' I do.
** When they see a bunch of people running for a helicopter in ''Gears of War 3'':
-->'''Pat''': Ohhhh, I feel like I should say something here.\
'''Matt''': I think you're gonna have to [[Film/{{Predator}} get inside that helicopter with urgency]].
** Upon being attacked by a cougar in ''Cabela's Survival: Shadows of Katmai'':
-->'''Pat:''' Oh, fuck! It's a cougar!
-->'''Matt:''' Get away from me, you sexy older lady!
-->'''Pat:''' I don't have any use for your worn-out charms!
* EverybodyLives: Their [[spoiler: ''VideoGame/UntilDawn'']] playthrough. Especially amazing considering it was their first time playing, and the numerous jokes made about killing off a few of the characters for a laugh.
* EyeScream: In ''VideoGame/MaxPayne3'', Matt dies in the nightclub restaurant by getting shot straight in the eye.
* FaceHeelTurn: Parodied at the end of ''WWF Smackdown 2: Know Your Role!'': They all love the game, and are seconds away from giving it a verdict of "Unrustled". Then Woolie suggests it would be funny if they used the moment to pull a heel turn to the audience instead, and they all proceed to bash the game, citing flaws that are actually the exact opposites of the features they felt made the game good.
* FalseReassurance: At the end of the ''VideoGame/MortalKombatShaolinMonks'', Matt proposes playing another MK game. Pat agrees as long as it isn't ''VideoGame/MortalKombat4''. Matt assures him that it's not. [[spoiler:It's ''VideoGame/MortalKombatSpecialForces''. Cue trippy HeroicBSOD from Pat.]]
* FanPreferredCouple: In-universe example. Near the end of their playthrough for ''VideoGame/TheWolfAmongUs'', Matt suddenly has the desire to pair [[spoiler: Bigby up with Nerissa]], declaring [[spoiler: Snow White]] to be "a cold fish" in comparison.
* FatBastard: During their ''VideoGame/DetroitBecomeHuman'' playthrough they note how often this trope comes up in David Cage games and dub it the "Fat Evil."
* FateWorseThanDeath: Pat says that if he ever finds the guy who made ''Alderman'', one of the Platform/XboxLiveArcade games, he's going to make him play it.
* FlatWhat:
** Pat's reaction to Matt beating the Chun-Li parry mode in ''VideoGame/StreetFighterIII'' when he couldn't.
** Similarly, both of them do this when the final boss of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance declares "I have a dream". More amusing is that right after they do it Raiden also says this.
* FollowTheLeader: This series caused the creation of Creator/TeamFourStar's ''[[https://www.youtube.com/user/TFSTwoSaiyans Two Saiyans Play]]''.
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** During ''VideoGame/EarthDefenseForce2017'' video, the screen says that Matt has finished downloading ''Vampire Rain'', which is what they play the next week.
** Playing RE 4, one of them says, "That badass snake's going to bite your dick." [[spoiler: Guess what happens in the season finale.]]
** During the Dead Rising 2 tutorial, Matt reacts to all of the dying civilians. When he goes "PAT IS DEAD!" you hear Pat groan. It's funnier to watch now that we know their names.
** In the middle of the ''VideoGame/AmnesiaTheDarkDescent'' video [[spoiler: Matt stops playing the game, goes on Ebay, and buys a copy of ''VideoGame/DrakeOfThe99Dragons''.]]
*** And at the end of ''Matt's Bomb-Ass Apartment Tour!'', [[spoiler: Matt gets an unseen original Xbox game in the mail...]]
** In the ''VideoGame/DeusExHumanRevolution'' video, they dub Elena's theme from ''VideoGame/StreetFighterIII'' over Jensen's "dancing". Next video, they play the new Online Edition of said game.
** During their Xbox Live Indie Games II video, after the "Colonies: Neociv" demo ends, Matt replies, "At least it was better than ''Mass Effect 3''", which is what they play next week.
** During ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosU'', Pat excitedly yells out that [[spoiler:he finally won a brawl]] when he managed to cause Matt, Woolie, and the girls to all die. [[spoiler:On the next episode of ''Super Best Friends Brawl'', he gets a shut out against Woolie and Matt, winning for the first time.]]
** The video to Batman: Arkham City starts with footage of ''VideoGame/BatmanDarkTomorrow'' as a joke. In a later season, they do a full episode of ''Dark Tomorrow''.
* FourTemperamentEnsemble: Matt is Melancholic, Pat is Choleric, Woolie is Phlegmatic and Liam is Sanguine. Especially notable in that their temperaments correspond to their individual favorite [[Franchise/TeenageMutantNinjaTurtles Ninja Turtles]] (Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello and Michelangelo, respectively.)
* FreezeFrameBonus:
** In the ''Slender'' video, after they get caught, there are momentary flashes of the PC desktop, each having something silly or weird.
** The tradition continues in the ''Slender: The Arrival'' video, only they appear during the static glitches and each image represents a game played later that season, as well as, curiously, a shot saying "Rustlemania begins this August". Come August 1st, the first video of their "Rustlemania" series (in which they play wrestling games) is uploaded.
*** The faces appear to reveal the upcoming games in the season. The first two faces in the video were Tomb Raider and Injustice, which were the next two videos of the season. The exception was with the third face, from ''VideoGame/TheWalkingDeadSurvivalInstinct''; the video after Injustice was ''VideoGame/FarCry3BloodDragon'', which did not appear in the Slender video. This could be chalked up to the Slender video being released not long after Blood Dragon was announced (and then confirmed not to be an AprilFoolsDay joke).
* FreudianSlip:
** During their Silent Hill: Homecoming Let's Play, as well as some others, when Pat compares the game to Silent Hill Downpour he usually accidentally calls one of them Silent Hill: Downcoming. Which is appropriate because of how he feels those [[JumpedTheShark games did to the series]].
** Pat seems to have a habit for this. In the Deception IV: Blood Ties video, he calls Liam "Matt" whenever he makes a silly mistake. For whatever reason, Liam starts to encourage it.
* FriendshipMoment: Maybe?
-->'''Pat:''' Why do I even come over here?\
'''Matt:''' Um, 'cause you're my friend.\
''Pat groans''
* FunWithAcronyms: Matt and Pat decide that W.V.B.A. from ''VideoGame/PunchOut'' stands for "Women's Vietnam Bitch Army". Or "Battle Army", they can't keep it straight.
* FunWithSubtitles: Matt writes the intro, scorekeeping, and outro texts for the ''Super Best Friends Brawl'' series. As such, he constantly hypes himself up and ridicules Pat and Woolie.
* GenreSavvy:
** During the 'Calling' video, upon seeing a ghostly figure appear and disappear:
-->'''Matt:''' ...it's gonna come up right in my face, isn't it.\
'''Pat:''' It's totally gonna come up right in your face.\
[[spoiler: (The ghost does so, they freak out anyway.)]]
** Very prominent in their ''VideoGame/BeyondTwoSouls'' playthrough. Matt, Pat and Woolie are able to predict set pieces, lines of dialogue and whole plot points and twists, sometimes ''well'' before they come into play. Granted, all this is done with a generous amount of WildMassGuessing, but they tend to arrive at the correct theories more often than not. This is in no small part due to their experience form playing both of David Cages [[VideoGame/{{Fahrenheit}} other]] [[VideoGame/HeavyRain efforts]], and gaining some understanding of how his mind works.
** In ''VideoGame/BarkleyShutUpAndJamGaiden'', Pat realizes that Vinceborg is a CrutchCharacter that will betray the party. Sure enough, he's right.
* TheGhost: "Rising Superstar Liam", another friend of Matt and Pat that is mentioned in a few videos and has only appeared in just as many.
** True to his nickname, Liam has risen out of this status to become what is essentially the fourth musketeer. Nowadays a more fitting Ghost would be the mysterious "Dork Girl"
* GilliganCut:
** During ''VideoGame/{{Portal 2}}'', when Chell is carrying Wheatley through [=GlaDOs=]' old chamber.
-->'''Matt:''' So nothing bad is going to happen?\
'''Pat:''' Nothing bad is going to happen.\
''Cut to [=GlaDOs=] crushing Wheatley''\
'''Matt:''' Oh fuck! You said nothing bad would happen!\
'''Pat:''' To you!\
'''Matt:''' [[WesternAnimation/GodzillaTheSeries Nigel!]]
** And another during the ''VideoGame/PunchOut'' video when they are playing ''Super Punch-Out!!'' and Matt loses to Mr. Sandman:
-->'''Matt:''' Aw fuck, great, terrific! I got the Wii Punch-Out; that shit's got to be-\
'''Pat:''' Everything for the Wii is for babies.\
'''Matt:''' They're for babies! It's so easy it's just gonna-\
''Cut to [[spoiler: Donkey Kong]] kicking Matt's ass''\
'''Pat:''' Oh what the fuck?!
** And ''another'' when the two are picking out armor for ''Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon''.
-->'''Matt:''' What color should I take?\
'''Pat:''' Pink.\
'''Matt:''' ''No.''\
'''Pat:''' Pink. Take the pink one. Take the pink color.\
'''Matt:''' Why would I take pink?\
'''Pat:''' Because it ''suits you.'' Take the pink one.\
'''Matt:''' No, I won't take pink!\
'''Pat:''' Take the little girly color! Take it!\
'''Matt:''' Shut up!\
''Cut to the two dropping into the game. One of them is wearing pinkish armor.''\
'''Pat:''' Yeah, come on, Pinky!\
'''Matt:''' Shut up! It doesn't matter which color I am.
** And [[OverlyLongGag yet another]] when Matt and Liam play the Genesis version of ''TMNT Tournament Fighters'', a game they played the SNES version of on Friday Night Fisticuffs:
-->'''Liam''': Could there be any more of a shitty version of ''Tournament Fighters''?
-->''Immediate cut to the main menu for the'' NES ''version of'' Tournament Fighters
-->'''Liam''': How could there still be a worse version of this game?
* GlamourFailure: The Best Friends initially tried to pass themselves off as living in the US and hid the fact that they're Canadian. However, occasionally they slipped up:
** During their ''VideoGame/SaintsRowTheThird'' episode, Pat's talking about getting food and mentions Pizza Pizza, a pizzeria chain that exists only in Canada.
** During the ''VideoGame/HeavyRain'' Let's Play, Matt lets it slip that he doesn't recognize American currency.
** And later:
-->'''Matt:''' You look up serial killer stuff 'cause you're into that stuff.
-->'''Pat:''' I haven't done that since CEGEP[[note]]Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel, basically the post-secondary education system of Quebec[[/note]]... [[DidIJustSayThatOutLoud I mean college!]] [[BlatantLies I mean college!]]
** In Part 17 of their ''VideoGame/EternalDarkness'' playthrough, it becomes clear that both of them speak (or at least read) French very well.
** Pat slips up in the Shitstorm of Scariness video of ''Doom 3'', where he mentions going into a Future Shop before trying to cover it up as a Best Buy instead. At the time the video was made, Future Shop was the Canadian subsidiary of Best Buy (the stores were converted to actual Best Buys in 2015).
** During the ''Scrublords'' ''Film/FightClub'' episode, Matt and Woolie casually mention going to Loblaws, a Canadian supermarket chain in Ontario and Quebec.
** And during the Blade Wolf DLC playthrough for VideoGame/MetalGearRisingRevengeance, Matt, Pat & Woolie make multiple references to Series/TheLittlestHobo, a TV series that most famously ran during the early 80s in Canada.
** During the VideoGame/DeadlyPremonition Let's Play, Pat tells a story about how James Hetfield of Metallica got burned by pyrotechnics in Montreal and how the city doesn't allow pyrotechnics indoors anymore "...so every wrestling show that showed up ''here'' afterwards was THE WORST!"
** In the Brawl for Def jam: Fight for NY, Matt tells a story about how he actually knew obscure white rapper Bless (who happens to be a playable fighter in the game) back in highschool and how Bless was a total slacker when it came to class. Bless' country and city of origin? Montreal, Canada.
** In the video where they hype up Pacific Rim and encouraged fans to possibly come see it with them, the theater tickets they show on screen clearly mention they are from a theater local to Montreal.
** In part 6 of ''VideoGame/DisasterDayOfCrisis'', in response to the giant tsunami that the protagonist just barely outruns, they state that "[their] city would be totally fine: [they'd] just go up on [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Royal Mount Royal]]."
** During Episode 19 of the podcast, they officially gave up the charade for good after revealing the address of their P.O. Box to be in Montreal, Quebec.
** At one point in their ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedIIILiberation'' video, they actually slide into fluent untranslated French, which wouldn't be very surprising for someone in Quebec.
** Pat's natural (or potentially played up, it's hard to tell sometimes) speaking pattern gave it away to fans when they started doing full let's plays unedited. Believe or not Pat has a habit of ending his sentences with ",Eh?"
* GlassCannon: Woolie acknowledges that he is basically this in the Super Best Friends Brawl of ''VideoGame/PerfectDark'', as the game gave him the titles of "Most Deadly" and "Least Shielded" in the final match.
* GoneHorriblyRight: The mailbag. Previously a way for them to show what they got from the fans, they eventually got ''so much stuff'' that they had to cancel it.
* GotMeDoingIt:
** After getting annoyed at Matt calling Wheatley "Nigel" in the ''VideoGame/{{Portal 2}}'' episode, Pat accidentally calls him by that name and promptly gets more pissed off.
-->'''Matt''': Hey, it's Nigel again!\
'''Pat''': ...His name is not Nigel! Would you fucking just throw the portal behind fucking Nigel or whatever that's... Now your saying that shit's... now I'm fuck... fuck you!
** They also have this quick exchange waiting for a multiplayer game in ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedBrotherhood'' to load.
--->'''Pat:''' We all gotta sneak around, and be sneaky, and then stab.\
'''Matt:''' Sneaky-stab mode?\
'''Pat:''' Sneaky-stab m-...You fucking tricked me into saying that stupid thing.\
'''Matt:''' I didn't trick you you just wanted to say it.\
'''Pat:''' I kinda wanted to.
* GratuitousFrench: Living in Montreal they know a few French words and goes off trail every time someone speak with a French accent. Pat also usually says Grand-maman when he refers to his grandma.
* GratuitousJapanese: Matt and Woolie do this sometimes, most notably in their Scrublords videos of ''Kabuki Warriors'' and the ''Anime/SailorMoon'' game. During their playthrough of ''Metroid: Fusion'', Liam also goes "Yatta!" after beating a boss.
* GraveHumor:
** During their playthrough of ''VideoGame/EternalDarkness'', Matt finds a few blocks of text that he wants worked into epitaphs.
--> '''Matt:''' I need that as an epitaph on my gravestone: ''Matt was a man that no one could understand except for monsters and corrupt humans.''
** Much later:
--> '''Pat:''' (Reads a page of Maximillian Roivas' journal)[[note]]I sought to love all yet now love causes me pain and suffering. I have learned to fear nothing although it is nothing that I most fear. All that were loyal to me now number among my worst enemies.[[/note]]\
'''Matt:''' I want that on my gravestone, but instead of ''all that were loyal to me'', just put ''Woolie''.
* GroinAttack: As Matt and Pat are quick to point out, the snakes in ''Man Vs Wild'' really do look like they're biting Bear Grylls in the groin.
* HateAtFirstSight: While playing ''VideoGame/TheWalkingDead'', Matt mentions how much he usually hates child [=NPCs=] in video games, and how impressed he is at the writers for making Clementine likable. Then Duck shows up, and Matt's reaction—before Duck even has a chance to speak—is "Oh hell no." For the rest of the playthrough, Matt interacts with Duck as little as possible and laughs at Duck's misfortunes.
* HeroKiller: Machops, in their ''Pokémon [=LeafGreen=]'' Nuzlocke challenge. It kills two of their party members early on, and any future encounters are met [[TheDreaded with appropriate fear]]. [[spoiler: Later on they also lose a Ghastly to a Machop, and ''nearly'' lose their Pidgeot to one in Giovanni's gym.]]
* HeroicComedicSociopath:
** In the first match of ''Super VideoGame/PunchOut'', Matt and Pat decide Mac must be some kind of monster for delivering a NoHoldsBarredBeatdown to Gabby Jay, an old man who hasn't won for 99 fights.
--->'''Matt:''' Shouldn't Mac feel a little bad about-\
'''Pat:''' Just beat the shit out of that old man! He knew what he was getting in for!
** Matt, Pat, and Woolie are having a lot of fun with the Punisher's [[KnightTemplar questionable moral compass]] while playing his titular game. For example, the video description of Episode 1 paints him as someone who'd suplex a jaywalking kid so hard, his head would explode.
* HiddenDepths:
** Despite his constant swearing, Pat is well-read and educated.
** This really shines through for both of them, as well as Woolie, during their commentaries on VideoGame/MetalGearSolid4GunsOfThePatriots and VideoGame/MetroidOtherM. When not making jokes, they discuss themes and writing with a shocking amount of depth and eloquence.
** During him and Woolie's Series/DeadliestWarrior competition, Matt makes a lot of his usual jokes, but offhandedly confirms that he does in fact know who Hannibal is by using his somewhat obscure last name.
** Pat is a certified minister in a number of states. Though by Pat's own admission, that doesn't really mean much as he was offered by chance a form that would certify him if he filled it out, which he did for kicks.
** Matt attended art school and it shows at times.
** Pat also apparently took psychology in college according to their ''Videogame/SilentHillHomecoming'' playthrough.
** All of them are fluent in French, since they noticed a lot of awkward translations in Heavy Rain from the original French script. This was more surprising when Matt and Pat pretended to be American instead of Canadians from Montreal.
** Liam is presented as the guy who likes creepy anime starring little girl protagonists for most of the videos he's in or even by the others when he's not there. It's enough to say that even the other Best Friends were surprised to find out that he's an experienced hunter during the podcast. Strangely enough both of these traits would be the subjects of his spin-off shows with Matt.
** Matt used to be a high-ranking game tester for ''VideoGame/NoMoreHeroes'' and other games. So when he looks at a particularly buggy game and says "I could have done better!", he's talking from experience and probably actually could have.
** When they arrive at the Montreal level in ''VideoGame/DeusExHumanRevolution'', Matt and Pat begin a rather detailed discussion of the city and its history, even pointing out (roughly) where [[ICanSeeMyHouseFromHere their houses are or would be]] in the skybox background.
* HighlyVisibleNinja:
** Matt is the worst assassin ever in ''Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood''.
-->'''Matt:''' Blend! Blend! Blend with me! Someone blend with me!
** Matt also has numerous moments in ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid3SnakeEater'', minor offenses starting with wearing high-profile American flag face paint or hiding in a cardboard box... in the middle of a forest.
-->'''Pat:''' You're gonna get detected, man.
-->'''Matt:''' No way, I never get detected!
-->''Cut to an enemy being alerted to Snake's presence''
-->'''Matt:''' Oh shit! Nothing, it's nothing!
* HilariousOuttakes: [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16MmibMnSFE Though you'll be hard-pressed]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BG373E1_d4 to find a difference between]] [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BszaePI0wi8 the outtake videos and the regular videos.]]
* HoYay: Innuendos, accidental or not, happen fairly often.[[invoked]]
-->'''Pat:''' You're not even on top of my leaderboard!\
'''Matt:''' I don't wanna be on top of anything that has to do with you.\
'''Pat:''' Augh... ''gross!''\
'''Matt:''' Get it, it's like sex...
** And there's them fanboying over Cole Train in ''Gears of War 3''.
*** [[HaveIMentionedIAmHeterosexualToday "No homo."]]
** Directly invoked when playing ''VideoGame/KirbysReturnToDreamland'' upon discovering the ability to heal your companion by kissing.
-->'''Pat:''' [[PiggybackCute Get off]] so we can make out.
** In the ''[[VideoGame/MortalKombatShaolinMonks Shaolin Monks]]'' video:
--> '''Matt:''' Hey dude, come frolic in the blood with me, let's go.
--> '''Pat:''' I thought you'd never ask...
--> '''Matt:''' Oh, this reminds me of that one summer...
** Or this moment during the ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'' LetsPlay:
--> '''Pat''': (after recounting a story about how he got dumped by someone because they argued about love) "Pat, what do you think went wrong?" I think what went wrong was when she was telling me about her feelings, I was like "You're such a dumb bitch." I think that may have been the part where I tripped over my feet at the finish line.
--> '''Matt''': Now you see how perfect we are, because you hurt my feelings all the time, but I still stick around.
--> '''Pat''': Oh geez, oh you're a keeper, Matt.
** In the ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosU'' we get this little exchange:
--> '''Pat''': Sweetie I want to play X-box and Matt's just like 'okay, fine Pat. Let's play X-box.'
--> '''Matt''': Why don't you fucking make me a good meal and then you can play X-box, Pat.
--> '''Pat''': Ab- Says you I can't do both?!
** At the end of the ''VideoGame/EternalDarkness'' playthrough:
--> '''Pat:''' Don't tease me like that!
--> '''Matt:''' I'll tease you all the ways I want!
* HelplessWithLaughter: In part 12 of their ''VideoGame/RideToHellRetribution'' playthrough, Pat makes a ''Franchise/StarWars'' reference that inspires him and Matt to [[https://youtu.be/QbFwcndrv-Q?t=1005 ramble about plot details they disliked from the prequel trilogy.]] Then Pat mixes up Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn with Quan Chi from ''Franchise/MortalKombat''. Matt and Pat pause the game and go silent, as they try and fail to hold back their own laughter.
* HopelessBossFight: Pat invokes this trope (though not by name) during his first fight against Jetstream Sam in ''Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance''. He deliberately makes Raiden hang back in the beginning of the battle, surmising that you can usually tell you're in a boss fight you're destined to lose if [[PerfectPlayAI the boss's walk is slow and confident]]. A few seconds later, [[OhCrap Sam begins to stroll towards Raiden...]]
* HurricaneOfPuns: A good bit of the humor is puns. This is usually done when someone dies in a unique way, like in ''VideoGame/RiseOfNightmares''.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:I - R]]
* IAmNotShazam: [[invoked]] In the ''Playstation All-Stars'' video, Matt initially calls Colonel Radec "The Videogame/{{Killzone}}". He's surprised to learn that The Killzone is not Radec's real name.
* InCharacterLetsPlay: Started out as this in the early years. Their videos involved Matt and Pat playing exaggerated versions of themselves, with lots of scripted jokes and heavy editing. (And for some reason, they pretended to be Americans and tried to hide that they were actually Canadians.) After they started doing multi-episode, full game LP's, they dropped the fictional personas and just played as themselves.
* IDontLikeTheSoundOfThatPlace:
** Castle Rapendorf, from their ''VideoGame/HauntingGround'' Let's Play.
** The Woolie Hole, though it has never been clarified as to what exactly it is (most assume it's just Woolie's apartment, but a lot of the jokes Matt and Pat make imply they're actually talking about Woolie's butthole).
* IJustShotMarvinInTheFace:
** Matt tries to buy a gun from a dealer in ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil4''. It doesn't go well.
** Pat, [[DamnYouMuscleMemory confused with the controls after taking an extended break from the game]], starts one part accidentally wiping out a hallway full of Chinese businessmen with one wrong button press and [[ExplosiveStupidity the Typhoon]].
** During their stream of ''VideoGame/DemonsSouls'', they mention the dangers of standing too close to [=NPCs=] when not interacting with them because of the risk of accidentally attacking--the [=PS3=]'s controller's triggers are very easy to press by accident, including when it's set down, and there's no such thing as pausing (and, inexplicably, ''the player can still attack while in a menu''). Despite his caution, Woolie almost has an incident anyway, leading to this trope being referenced.
* InstantlyProvenWrong: In their ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'' playthrough, Woolie defeats the first boar in the Duke's Archives and Pat reassures him that they won't encounter any more of them. Around the next corner, another boar awaits them.
** This has started happening so much that Pat's declared he has a [[Manga/JoJosBizarreAdventure Stand]] named Crazy Talk that randomly rewrites reality to make the last thing he said wrong.
* IntentionallyAwkwardTitle: With names as morbidly hilarious, absurd, and in-joke heavy as "Buttered Poopers have a lot of Groundswell", "Live from PAX: Nonstop Infinite Ass Dumping", "God Supports Straight Shota", and "Three-fifths of a Podcast", it's safe to say that the Friendcast has more than its fair share of these. Crosses over with ItMakesSenseInContext a lot of the time, too.
* InstantlyProvenWrong: Happens to Pat so many times there is a RunningGag among the fanbase that it's his stand power.
* InstantWinCondition: They suddenly beat the opening level of ''Survival'', and Pat wonders what the hell happened to the wolves that were attacking the protagonist a second ago.
* InsultOfEndearment: Despite constantly referring to Ellie of The Last Of Us as "Garbage" or "Trash", the two do seem fond of her and do compliment her or cheer her on at times, all the while still referring to her as Garbage.
* InsurmountableWaistHighFence: Discussed numerous times when playing ''Captain America''.
-->'''Matt:''' I'm not super enough or soldier enough to go up these one foot tall sandbags! ''50 million dollars well spent!''
* ItAmusedMe:
** In ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedBrotherhood'' Pat informs Matt of a "sweet" achievement which involves scaling a rather large building and safely parachuting off of it. The endeavor takes a few hours and frustration on both sides, but ends with Matt succeeding. Until Pat tricks Matt into letting go of his parachute and killing himself. Also he didn't get the achievement because of the aforementioned death.
** In ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil4'', Pat tells Matt he can get gold and items from shooting the fish in the lake. The fish monster in the lake promptly eats him.
** This is more or less the reason Pat makes Matt play ''VideoGame/DeadSpace2''.
* ItsEasySoItSucks: They have this general reaction to ''Murdered: Soul Suspect''. The "investigations" are just scavenger hunts followed by a simple guessing game that's difficult to get wrong if you've been paying attention. Add that to the sheer amounts of collectibles, the glitches, the plot, and unfair "appear on screen for a split second" button prompts (along with a lack of direction in a lot of places) also gave them plenty of evidence. [[invoked]]
* JokeAndReceive: A few episodes of the ''VideoGame/Yakuza0'' playthrough have Matt jokingly referring to Makoto, Majima's mark, as [[Franchise/GhostInTheShell Motoko Kusanagi]]. [[spoiler: Despite Majima assuming Makoto is a man, his mark ends up being a woman, like Motoko is.]]
* JumpPhysics: Commented on in ''Survival''.
-->'''Pat:''' Dude, look at that jump! That's like a real human being's jump. ... No one in games jumps like this, this is totally legit.\
''[One scene later, the game abandons realism and the character makes a massive leap across a chasm.]''\
'''Matt:''' Whoooooa! ''That's'' a jump!\
'''Matt and Pat, in unison:''' ''Fuck Bear Grylls!''\
''[Even later]''\
'''Pat:''' Man, he's like the mayor of fucking Jump Town with that shit.
* JumpScare:
** They are really fond of evoking these, having done so in ''VideoGame/DeadSpace2'', ''VideoGame/MortalKombat9'', and ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil4''.
** Pat pulls this on Matt during the ''Amnesia'' video, leaving to go get a snack and then waiting for Matt to run into a monster before jumping out and yelling "Boo!"
** This happens a lot during the "Shitstorm of Scariness" series. Pops up all over the place in ''Juon'', and there's an hilarious one during ''Call of Cthulhu'' where they lose it over a police officer finding them.
* JumpingTheShark: Invoked in a rather literal fashion in the ''Donkey Kong Country Returns'' episode, in reference to the series getting greenlit on the Machinima channel:
-->'''Matt:''' Jump the shark! Jump the shark!
-->'''Pat:''' I don't wanna jump the shark! ...Aw, we jumped it.
* KilledOffForReal: [[spoiler: Wyclef, Jigga, Fandango, and Chyna from the [[SelfImposedChallenge Pokemon [=LeafGreen=]]] [[{{Permadeath}} Nuzlocke run]].]]
* LampshadeHanging: While playing ''VideoGame/{{Catherine}}'', the two wonder why somebody would want to be friends with people who treat them like shit all the time.
* LargeHam:
** Sometimes they like to ham up a scene now and then.
---> '''Matt:''' Hey Pat, what's the prognosis here?
---> '''Pat:''' '''''MUUUUUUUUUURDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEER'''''.
** The ''VideoGame/HeavyRain'' video is them overreacting to the control introduction.
* LaughingMad:
** Pat breaks down in laughing anguish in ''VideoGame/DukeNukemForever'' when two alien enemies slowly drop down from a hole in the ceiling (with no footing and topped with an industrial fan) from out of nowhere.
** Pat in general seems to alternate between this and Main/TheHyena. There is a compilation video [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ryeRwnFNRs&index=8&list=FL1bcJUHoVSzsLxCwS-5wTJw here]].
* LeftTheBackgroundMusicOn: Matt whistles along to [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OUP_Z3iZPs "Life Is Beautiful"]] during ''VideoGame/DeadlyPremonition'', which drives Pat nuts. Then later the music starts up again, but it's only Matt's ringtone.
-->'''Pat:''' You put that shit as your cellphone ringtone?!
* LemonyNarrator: Matt writes the character profiles for ''Brawl'', which make Pat and Woolie look like cheating losers and him look awesome.
* LikeAnOldMarriedCouple: Sometimes. Acknowledged even:
-->'''Pat:''' (After fighting over which direction to go in ''Eternal Darkness'') This is like a marriage. We can't break up because of the kids. And the kids are the [=YouTube=] people. They'll be so sad.
* LiteralMinded: From ''VideoGame/MaxPayne 3'':
--> '''Matt''': Oh, Fabiana! Oh, I can't save her butt!
--> ({{Beat}})
--> '''Pat''': What if you saved the rest of her and it's just like, no butt?
* LoudnessWar: VideoGame/DeadlyPremonition Part 2 was this as the game's audio started getting really loud in the breakfast scene and nobody could understand what Matt and Pat were saying.
* MaleGaze: The ''Walking Dead: Survival Instinct'' episode starts with Matt carrying a camera while buying the game. When the female clerk turns to get the game, the camera briefly focuses on her butt.
* MemeticBadass: {{Invoked}}. The ''Man Vs. Wild'' episode has interstitials offering facts about Bear Grylls. Apparently, as a child, Bear Grylls learned from electric eels how to channel electricity through his body. He once nursed a family of mountain lions back to health until they were strong enough for him to kill and eat. He once met Franchise/{{Cthulhu|Mythos}}, who ran away in terror.
* MightMakesRight: When this comes up during the VideoGame/MetalGearRisingRevengeance playthrough:
-->'''[[spoiler:Senator Armstrong]]:''' Might makes right!
-->'''Pat:''' ...[[SubvertedTrope no, it doesn't!]] But if I beat you, does that mean you'll shut the fuck up?
* MirrorMatch: ''Scrublords'' episodes will sometimes have the fifth round be one of these; for instance, in ''Shaq Fu'', the last round had both Matt and Woolie choose Shaq. In their ''Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale'' episode, Matt, Pat, Woolie, and Liam all played as Raiden. [[ComplacentGamingSyndrome Twice]].
** Exaggerated with [[spoiler: ''six Wrestling/{{Chris Benoit}}s'']] in ''WWE 2K15''.
* MistakenForProfound: Joked about during the ''Manga/FistOfTheNorthStar'' episode of Friday Night Fisticuffs, as they imagine fighting game commentators being amazed by their esoteric fighting styles when they're actually just fumbling around.
* MistakenForRacist: During their ''VideoGame/TheWalkingDead'', Matt mentions the black protagonist getting a hug from a white woman looks horrible. When Pat calls him out on it, he clarifies he meant the animation, not interracial couples in general.
* MoodWhiplash: Deliberately invoked by Pat during their ''Luigi's Mansion'' episode, and noted by a distressed Matt.
--> '''Liam''': Hey kids, if you're a murderer, you get to become a Boo.
--> '''Pat''': Dude.
--> '''Liam''': With a funny name like "Gameboo."
--> '''Pat''': DUDE. Let's go MURDER PEOPLE.
--> '''Matt''': Yo! Whoa, whoa, whoa, this started off really, like, lighthearted and-
--> '''Pat''': Okay, wait wait wait wait wait, let's get high on CRACK, then let's go murder people.
--> '''Matt''': Why-How come whenever we play Nintendo games it turns out to be the darkest shit?
* MostDefinitelyNotAVillain: During ''VideoGame/{{Sleeping Dogs|2012}}'', they constantly insist they are not playing an undercover cop. In ''VideoGame/BatmanArkhamCity'', Bruce Wayne constantly reminds people that he is not Franchise/{{Batman}}.
* {{MST}}
* MundaneMadeAwesome:
** Spinning toilet paper, drinking from water fountains, and spinning chairs in the ''VideoGame/DukeNukemForever'' episode.
** Also, drinking OJ and carrying groceries in the ''VideoGame/HeavyRain'' episode.
** Pat insists that the single coolest thing in the entire Franchise/DeadSpace franchise is a room early in the first game that has a massive piece of a spaceship drifting lazily back and forth.
* MusicalChores: It's gonna be fun when we solve science.
* MyHeroZero: [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]]. Matt and Pat realize that there are quite a few video game ninjas named Zero, ranging from Zero from ''VideoGame/MegaManX'' and ''VideoGame/MegaManZero'' to Zero from ''VideoGame/AnarchyReigns''.
* NamelessNarrative: The two friends did not call each other by their names in the first season. The Season 2 intro reveals their names are Matt and Pat, which they then call each other at the end of the ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil4'' video.
* NerdHoard: All the members of the channel have their own collections, especially as a result of their mailbag episodes in early 2014. Matt in particular has a large figurine collection on display.
* NoEnding: Due to the channel's breakup at the end of 2018, the Let's Plays they were still doing (the recently-started Star Trek, and Kingdom Hearts, which they were a good ways into, and the ''VideoGame/MinecraftStoryMode'' LP, which was used to fill dead time) never got finished. ''VideoGame/SonicUnleashed'' never got finished either due to Liam, one of the LP's cast, leaving the group.
* NoFlowInCGI: Commented on occasionally. Pat likes to call attention to cutscenes where characters are sleeping on top of their covers, or without any covers at all (because CG animating someone sleeping ''under'' covers is surprisingly hard). The full-length LP of ''Heavy Rain'' actually does have someone sleeping under their covers--Matt and Pat promptly point out how unrealistic it looks, and cite that as why so few games even try. Then they joke that ''Chrono Trigger'' was ahead of its time because Chrono is shown sleeping under his covers.
-->'''Pat:''' They [Ethan and Madison from ''Heavy Rain''] have sex behind the bed so they don't have to get underneath the covers.
* NoIndoorVoice: Shouting seems to be Pat's normal way of communicating with Matt.
* NoNameGiven: The Toads in ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosU'' are being controlled by... someone. All we can tell about them is that they're girls. They show up again for ''{{VideoGame/Scribblenauts}} Unlimited''.
* NoodleIncident:
** Whatever happened between the pair to provoke their rather huge argument on their Facebook page during June 9th. It ''seems'' to have evolved out of the two mocking each other over Animal Crossing, but with Matt and Pat, who can tell? It hasn't been referred to since, either, particularly after the two resolved their differences after and joked about it later.
** Matt and Pat insist that they will never tell the story of the time they almost went to prison. It's later subverted when they explain what happened during an episode of the podcast. [[spoiler: During the filming of the live segments of Colonial Marines, someone saw them outside in the dark with the guns they used and called the cops on them. After they explained what they were doing they were let off with a warning.]]
** When pressed to name one dignified thing he's ever done:
-->'''Pat''': I wore a suit to my high school graduation--
-->'''Matt''': That you had a vicious fight at!
** Matt claims that the reason he hates ''Arkham Origins'' so much is that it almost killed his fiance.
** Keep in mind that Matt met his Fiancee while they were both working as game testers.
** There have been multiple hints at Liam being under house arrest. Exactly why is anyone's guess. [[spoiler:It's nothing, just a RunningGag that they never expected to take off]].
** According to a discussion on the Friendcast, something once occurred that resulted in Woolie and Pat having to form "a deal" involving the bathroom. Pat claims that the situation is ENTIRELY his fault. Matt supposedly urged Woolie to take the deal, as "it wasn't going to get better, and could get a whole lot worse".
* NotTheFallThatKillsYou: Pat finds ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedRevelations''' use of a grappling hook to be slightly unrealistic:
-->'''Pat:''' Can I just point out that, if that was real, he's like falling off a fucking ledge, and sticks out a little hook? His arm's gonna come right the fuck off!
* NumberedSequels:
** Matt and Pat try really hard to figure out how to pronounce ''F.3.A.R.'', but eventually give up, figuring it's not worth their time.
** Pat speculates about the future of the ''Zombi U'' franchise:
-->'''Pat:''' What the fuck are they going to do if they do a sequel? Call it ''Zombi [[Music/{{U2}} U 2]]''?
* NWordPrivileges: So far only Matt hasn't said it (and Pat was just when channeling Vince Mcmahon run with Booker T) and they do make a lot of racist jokes. The thing is their joke match the content of the game such as Cryme Tyme videos, Japanese anime cliché and Afro Samurai 2 so it's not out of place and Woolie, who says nigga the most, is black. One video description even have them referring themselves as casual racist.
** Openly defied during a podcast discussing the Resident Evil 5 LP.
--->'''Woolie:''' Who's Sheva, who's Sheva?\
'''Matt:''' I'm Sheva, why would I be anyone but Sheva?\
'''Woolie:''' Ok then you get to say it.\
'''Matt:''' No I don't.
* OffscreenInertia: Matt and Patt apparently spent an entire ''week'' playing ''T.E.C. 3001''
* OffscreenTeleportation: In ''Survival''.
-->'''Pat:''' How'd Togo get here?\
'''Matt:''' Togo, you were down at the mountain, like at the base camp.\
'''Pat:''' Dude, is that dog, like, [[Series/QuantumLeap quantum leaping]]? Is that dog time-traveling?
* OhCrap: While playing ''Final Fight: Streetwise'', Pat finally beats down [[ThatOneBoss Leo]], then Leo tells [[{{Ninja}} Guy]] to kick his ass. You could feel the fear in Pat's response.
* OutOfOrder: Sometimes the guys will be talking about something in one video that's about a thing that occurred in another video that has yet to be uploaded but was recorded beforehand (or inverted, like when in one VideoGame/ViewtifulJoe video Liam asks Matt if he's going to get VideoGame/GrandTheftAutoV, and said VJ video was uploaded after the GTAV video for Machinima had been online for a few days). This is most noticeable in some of the Shitstorm 2 videos in which you can hear them make small references to some games that they already recorded for, but yet waited to upload the videos of said games a few days later.
** In the case of Shitstorm 2 this is justified by the fact Matt took a trip to New York with his girlfriend in the middle of October, and thus it's clear that some videos had to have been recorded in September. One video even has Pat saying that Plague of Gripe's intro animation wasn't finished at the time of recording.
* OverlyLongGag:
** Matt taking so long to color the picture in ''Shattered Memories'' that Pat angrily storms out only to return to Matt still coloring.
** Trying to kill the invincible prostitutes in ''[[VideoGame/{{Gun}} Red Dead Redemption]]''.
--->'''Matt:''' Old Betsy, the [[ImplacableMan Whore of Steel]].
** Matt spinning the motorcycle around in ''Ken's Rage'' and to make Pat sick from the motion blur.
** Matt and Pat making dumb puns in ''VideoGame/SleepingDogs2012''.
** The continuous firing at the head of a frozen demon in ''VideoGame/DMCDevilMayCry''.
* PaperTiger:
** For all of his bluster and snarkiness, at around [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jWsiyXoTz0 8:55 in the video]], Matt too falls prey to the gnawing horror of [[VideoGame/AmnesiaTheDarkDescent Amnesia]]. And a JumpScare from Pat.
** For all of the strong-willed fun Pat has for playing scary games and scaring Matt by making him play said scary games, Pat finally breaks down through the playthrough of ''VideoGame/{{Slender}}'', which Matt ironically takes in stride and, thus, boredom.
*** And then, it's revealed that the reason that Matt was so blase during Slender was because he hadn't seen any of the [[Franchise/TheSlenderManMythos mythos]]. So naturally, by the time they have to play the full Slender game, Matt HAS seen ''WebVideo/MarbleHornets'' and is just as scared as Pat this time.
* PatrioticFervor: Matt loves him some America. He even named his character in ''VideoGame/DemonsSouls'' "AMERICA".
** Not to mention his BigWordShout at the end of the ''Captain America'' video.
** However, according to their [=YouTube=] and Facebook accounts, they're Canadian.
*** Pat sometimes lets out an "eh" at the end of his sentences. As for why they prefer America, they're [[VideoGame/AssassinsCreedRevelations on record]] for calling Quebec a "shithole".
*** They're actually talking about Quebec City. Being from Montreal, it might be a city rivalry thing.
*** Based on some things he's said during the podcast, Liam seems to have pride in their homeland.
* PercussiveMaintenance:
** Done as a joke in the ''Batman: Arkham City'' video: the video starts with gameplay from ''VideoGame/BatmanDarkTomorrow'' and they hit the TV to change it to ''Arkham City''
** This happens again in their video for Injustice: Gods Among Us. Twice.
* PetTheDog: After spending most of the ''VideoGame/ManVsWild'' let's play trying to kill every animal they came across (and even lamenting that the game doesn't let them kill the cougars), Matt and Pat spare the gray fox in the last level, out of respect for the VideoGame/MetalGear character.
* PingPongNaivete: Matt is married but plays up his manchild attitude or sometime is just that childish, especially evident during his Bible Black and Otaku fantasy LP. When a game states there is always one thing that comes to mind first when you meet [[TwinThreesomeFantasy twins.]]
-->'''Matt:''' Does she get hurts if I shoot you?
* PretentiousPronunciation:
** During their Let's Play of Metroid Fusion, the word target is often pronounced tar-jay.
** They also occasionally pronounce David Cage's name as "David Cah-Jay", either making fun of his French accent or his pretentious nature.
* PreviouslyOn: Pat tries to explain to Matt the backstory for ''F.E.A.R.'' while ''F.3.A.R.'' does its own version, and makes the whole thing sound stupid and overcomplicated. Matt doesn't pay attention.
* PrisonRape: Continuously referenced and joked about in their ''Series/PrisonBreak'' video. They found the showers and walked out instantly.
* PsychoRangers: The Ustabiaz that showed up at magfest.
* RageQuit: Matt and Woolie play ''Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus''. It's supposed to be a best-of-five match. After three matches (of which he won two) Woolie gets so annoyed at the game's controls that he quits. Matt declares himself the winner by default, "[[PyrrhicVictory But at what cost?]]"
* RapidFireNo: Pat's reaction to Matt wanting to play ''Survival'' is this for half a minute, without letting Matt get a word in.
* RealLifeWritesThePlot: Apparently even God doesn't want Matt and Patt (and Woolie) to play ''Game of Thrones'', evidenced by the thunderstorm that occurs around the 17:30 mark. A fire alarm interrupted the ''VideoGame/EternalDarkness'' playthrough, and the video recording software decided to ignore some of ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger''. There's also their entire playthrough of ''VideoGame/TheEvilWithin''. In addition to multiple crashes on PC and [=PS4=], Pat's Playstation 4 literally ''started to die'', forcing them to send it for repairs and use Matt's for the rest of the playthrough.
* ARealManIsAKiller:
** From ''VideoGame/GuildWars2'':
--> '''Matt:''' (after watching Pat kill a moa) Why are you killing it?
--> '''Pat:''' [[TestosteronePoisoning Because I'm a man.]]
--> '''Matt:''' I guess.
** Liam is apparently this because he goes hunting.
* RealMenWearPink:
** [[spoiler:Pat, despite favoring SurvivalHorror and M-Rated games more than Matt, has ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic'' wallpaper on his computer. Matt is weirded out by this.]] Explained by Pat on the Best Friends Reddit account that it was a planned joke that got taken massively out of proportion.
** Another case; Matt, Pat and Woolie are all surprisingly knowledgeable of ''Anime/SailorMoon.''
** Again, Liam and his love of moe animes.
* RealSongThemeTune: The intro and outro song is "Green Greens" from VideoGame/{{Kirby}}, even when the upbeat song [[SoundtrackDissonance does not fit with the game they are playing]].
** WithLyrics: Starting with the first episode of Season 2 until the ''Portal 2'' episode, turning it into an ExpositoryThemeTune. Lyrics are in the page quote.
* RealityIsUnrealistic:
** In the full playthrough of ''Man Vs. Wild'', Matt and Pat are very critical of the glacier cave in the Patagonia level, claiming that it looks "unfinished" because the interior is completely blue. Real glacier caves actually are that blue.
** Similarly, while playing VideoGame/ResidentEvil during the Shitstorm of Scariness, they both laugh at the absurdity of the Smith & Wesson 500, which Pat claims doesn't exist. It actually does.
** While making fun of ''VideoGame/{{Tekken}}'''s characters talking to each other in their own language despite some being billingual, Woolie concedes that he did speak only English to his French bosses who only replied in French, living in a country with two official languages.
* RecklessGunUsage: Subverted in the ''VideoGame/UntilDawn'' playthrough. When they finally get to the guest cabin, they find a rifle on a rack, and get the chance to either show it to Jess or mess around with it and point it at her. Pat says ''very'' emphatically "''Do NOT'' point that gun at her!"
** When a character from ''VideoGame/TheWalkingDead'' season 2 nonchalantly points the gun at Clementine, Pat and Matt scream at the same time as Clementine about how dangerous it is. It's especially funny since Pat once said on a podcast that he wished he lived in America so he could own a gun and the survey phone company will just write " crazy dude with a gun" and leave him at peace.
* ReferenceOverdosed: To the MAX, with some being incredibly obscure. Just about every video has some reference to either ''Metal Gear'' or ''The Simpsons''
* ReportsOfMyDeathWereGreatlyExaggerated: Said almost word-for-word by [[spoiler: Woolie]] (he says "rumors" instead of "reports") in ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosU''.
* RoboSpeak: Matt starts doing this to mock the terrible dialogue in the indie game ''Who's Gonna Get the Girl?''
* RuleOfFun: Mentioned in one of their ''VideoGame/{{Bloodborne}}'' videos as the reason for the editing decisions they make, rhetorically asking if anyone really wants to see a week of them trying to beat [[WakeUpCallBoss Father Gascoigne]].
* RunningGag: Now has its own [[RunningGag/TwoBestFriendsPlay page]].
[[/folder]]

[[folder:S - Z]]
* SanitySlippage: The episode descriptions for the ''Omikron'' playthrough started off as parody "David Cage facts", but as the game became increasingly incoherent and the bugs piled up, the descriptions went from baffled statements of disbelief to vanishing altogether, before suddenly coming back as incoherent ramblings. The slippage eventually got to the episode intros, which went from an animated title card to various random, strange and disturbing images, and even got into Matt's Twitter posts.
* SarcasmFailure: In the final episode of the Metal Gear Rising LP, after the final boss' [[MemeticMutation infamous explanation of his powers]] Pat is only able to mutter out "Fuck off".
* SarcasmMode:
-->'''Pat:''' Yay, here we go again. Having so much fun with this ''Vampire Rain''.
** And during ''VideoGame/{{Portal 2}}''
-->'''Pat:''' Alright, I'm sure this will turn out awesome. I'm sure I'll have loads of fun with you, playing this cooperative mode.
* ScreechingStop: When playing ''VideoGame/DeadlyPremonition'', they die laughing whenever they hear the "screeching brakes" sound produced by the fast-travel radio.
* SeinfeldianConversation: Once in a while in the regular videos, all the time in the Let's Play videos.
** Pat explains to Matt the backstory to ''FranchVideoGame/MetalGear'' during ''Kane and Lynch''.
** They chose to discuss the recently released 3DS and what kind of present to get for a friend during two separate cutscenes in ''Resident Evil 4'', neither of which they realized had quicktime events embedded in them.
** Matt's overanalyzation of ''Earth Defense Force 2017'' as Japan's response to the War on Terror.
** Almost the entire ''VideoGame/WWEAllStars'' video is them discussing the wrestlers' careers.
** In ''Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon'', we hear a snippet of a conversation about Greek philosophy while Matt's playing the single-player game. Turns out Pat's a fan of the Socratic method, and thinks that Aristotle held back modern thinking by hundreds of years.
** Much of their ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil2'' playthrough is this, with them discussing various backstory elements of the RE-verse, including disdain for the SD Perry Novels and spin-off games, as well as Arnold Schwarzenegger's filmography, the merits of ''VideoGame/SystemShock'', and other various topics.
*** The ''VideoGame/SilentHillDownpour'' LetsPlay is like this as well, with offhand conversations of past ''Franchise/SilentHill'' games, as well as the usual offtopic discussions, being common.
** This is part of the reason they refuse to Let's Play their favorite games such as ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil4'', because the wouldn't have anything to say about the game besides obvious compliments. {{Subverted}} when they started a playthrough of ''Resident Evil 4 HD''.
** Matt explains the plot of ''Kane and Lynch'' to Pat during the ladder sequence in ''VideoGame/MetalGearSolid3SnakeEater''.
** The beginning of the ''Killer 7'' is them talking about ''Film/QuantumOfSolace'' for almost two minutes.
** In the ''VideoGame/ManVsWild'' let's play, they had one about Seinfeld.
** Pretty common in Two Best Friends Funtime Adventures, like them waxing nostalgic about the golden age of {{First Person Shooter}}s.
* SelfDeprecation: In their ''VideoGame/AnarchyReigns'' episode of ''Brawl'', Matt and Woolie make fun of Fighterpedia; a show they had on Machinima that only lasted one season. Cut to the Fighterpedia intro, with the text replaced with "Nobody Watched".
** Upon hearing a mention of Montreal in ''VideoGame/DeusExHumanRevolution'', Matt remarks "Montreal? That place is a dump."
* SensitiveGuyAndManlyMan: Matt and Pat, respectively. Though calling Matt sensitive is a bit of a stretch.
** As of completing their ''The Walking Dead'' Let's Play, Pat admits he's prone to crying, as opposed to Matt.
** Reversed in ''Shitstorm of Scariness: Haunting Ground''. Matt is a [[AllMenArePerverts pervert]] who makes [[DudeNotFunny jokes of questionable taste,]] while Pat mocks and berates him for being so. He also says that the combination of horror and [[MsFanservice voyeurism]] make ''Haunting Ground'' feel like a creepy rape culture scenario.
* SharedUnusualTrait: Upon noticing that Togo, the sled dog from ''Survival'', has one blue eye and one green eye, Pat speculates that Togo must be [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyX Yuna]] reincarnated.
* ShotgunsAreJustBetter: Both of them seem to think this. In Part 7 of their Let's Play of ''Silent Hill: Homecoming'' Pat notes that he finds weak shotguns in gaming depressing. And then there's this moment from their ''Amnesia: The Dark Descent'' video:
--> '''Matt:''' Yeah, but do any of those notes have a shotgun?
--> '''Pat:''' Nooo...
--> '''Matt:''' Then why should I care?
** Pat notes in Bug Island that if shotguns in video games had the range they do irl, they would be automatically the best weapon and there'd be no reason to use a different gun.
* ShoutOut: [[ShoutOut/TwoBestFriendsPlay There's a separate page for that.]]
* SidetrackedByTheGoldenSaucer:
** Matt really gets into the coloring segments of ''Shattered Memories'', to Pat's annoyance.
-->'''Pat:''' That's it, that's it, I'm outta here.\
'''Matt:''' This is awesome.\
'''Pat:''' Fuck you.\
'''Matt:''' Well, I mean-\
'''Pat:''' *slams door*\
''Later when Matt has almost finished coloring in the entire page''\
'''Pat:''' Okay, dude, I know I blew up. I'm sorry, but- Are you still coloring this? Are you serious? You have been coloring this the entire time I've been gone? What's wrong with you? You're like, the worst person I have known in my entire life.\
'''Matt:''' Well, this is fun.\
'''Pat:''' ''God'', I hate you so m-We're no longer friends.
** Pat pulls this himself in the ''Deadly Premonition'' playthrough. Several videos are devoted to him blowing off the main plot (Anna's murder) in order to do side missions involving the townspeople.
-->'''Pat:''' Time to get on with the investigation!\
'''Matt:''' What investigation? Who got murdered?\
'''Pat:''' I don't even remember.
** Despite explicitly saying they would do sidequests off camera, the ''VideoGame/Yakuza0'' videos are trending this way. Pat spends over an hour and multiple videos [[ItMakesSenseInContext buying drinks for a bunch of hobos]] because he keeps getting sidetracked by random shit. And can't find beer.
* SignatureStyle: The Zaibatsu have a style of humor all their own, characterized by a unique syntax shared between all four members, [[ShoutOut/TwoBestFriendsPlay constant references to works both popular and niche]], and [[RunningGag/TwoBestFriendsPlay a long history of]] RunningGags to draw from, with jokes being invented and dropped on a whim. This is best exemplified by their collaborative episodes with WebVideo/GameGrumps; the difference between the two is night and day.
* SlowPacedBeginning: In-universe. When playing through ''VideoGame/BarkleyShutUpAndJamGaiden'', Pat and Liam at first thinks that it's a horrible game, but from Part 2 and onward, they realize that it's actually a brilliant AffectionateParody.
* SmallNameBigEgo:
** Matt when they play ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3'', because he had been playing it for a while and this was Pat's first time. Pat quickly learns how to kick Matt's ass, and demonstrates that he actually knows who the characters are.
** Matt claims to know all about 1940s history when they play ''VideoGame/LANoire'', but he clearly doesn't.
* SmashCut: Frequently.
* {{Smurfing}}: After discovering that "koopy" is both a type of sandwich and a type of reptile in ''VideoGame/OmikronTheNomadSoul'', they start using it to mean any number of other things.
* SophisticatedAsHell: Pat's insults are normally restricted to "your mom" jokes and telling Matt he sucks, but on one occasion he calls Matt "[[Theatre/RichardIII the winter of his discontent]]". Matt [[InsultBackfire takes it as a compliment]].
* SpaceX:
** All over the place in ''VideoGame/DeadSpace2''. Space raves, space AIDS, space eyes, space future, and space-wikis.
** And in ''VideoGame/{{Catherine}}'' we get '''SPACE CONFESSIONALS'''.
** As well as in the "Duke Nukem Forever" Bloopers/Outtakes video, near the end, Pat refers to the area as "space-man" corridors in frustration.
** Pat introduces us to space badgers in ''VideoGame/MassEffect3''.
** In their ''VideoGame/RiseOfNightmares'' video, Pat refers to a Romani fortuneteller as a "space prostitute."
** ''VideoGame/{{Borderlands 2}}'' brings us "space trucker hicks [[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment in outer space.]]" Led by their leader, [[WebAnimation/HomestarRunner Space Captainface]].
** They describe the plot to ''[[VideoGame/EchoNight Echo Night: Beyond]]'' as the character going on a space honeymoon with his space wife to a space resort where they crash on a moonbase [[DepartmentOfRedundancyDepartment in space.]] Also, they encounter space ghosts in space suits, and even ride on space elevators and space walkways in what they describe is a space airport.
* SpotTheImpostor: While playing ''Guild Wars 2'', Pat creates a male Norn that he claims looks just like him:
-->'''Matt:''' I don't know which one of you to shoot!
-->'''Pat:''' I know! Wait...
* StringyHairedGhostGirl: They gave us the page quote during their play through of the Film/JuOn game.
* StunnedSilence:
** Being that they're offscreen, it's fairly ambiguous, but there was a moment of silence during ''Kane and Lynch'' and ''Disaster: Day of Crisis'' which had both friends completely silent as opposed to their normal behavior, probably to play up how ridiculous the game was at that moment.
** There's another one during ''VideoGame/HeavyRain'', when in contrast to them talking loudly over the prologue, they sit silently and watch Ethan's sad life until Matt calls Ethan a loser.
** Another in ''Shadows of the Damned'': Matt hears a noise, then begins looking around for it. He turns the character to see [[spoiler:dozens of severed heads rolling down the hill toward him.]] Both guys watch in silence before quitting the game.
** In the ''Beatdown Fists of Vengeance'' video, the two encounter an enemy NPC on the street and pick the option to rob him. However, rather than needing to fight the character for the money or having any kind of resistance, the sequence turns into a curious scenerio of their victim saying "''You say you need money? I'll try anything once.''", only for the screen to cut to the player's wallet showing their monetary value slowly increasing. Matt and Pat fall completely silent during the sequence; the screen even cuts to animated versions of themselves watching the screen in confusion.
** There's one in ''VideoGame/{{Borderlands 2}}'' when Pat says something [[ThatCameOutWrong that doesn't sound right]] that's only barely broken by some very suppressed laughter from Pat.
-->'''Matt:''' That's really transparent.\
'''Pat:''' You know what else is really transparent? My dick!\
''14-second silent break''\
'''Matt:''' I should probably-\
'''Pat:''' [[DoubleEntendre You gotta let that hang.]]
* SubvertedCatchphrase:
** Matt spends the entire ''ComicBook/CaptainAmerica'' video avoiding his "AMERICA!" catchphrase (He rarely even uses the character's full name) despite the insistence of Pat. [[spoiler: Until the end when he launches into an ''epic'' "AMERICAAAAAAAAAA!" while Cap does a flying punch on a robot.]]
** Again in ''VideoGame/MetalWolfChaos''. Matt and Pat only say the word "America" three times, and two of those instances were during a conversation about the actual landmass.
* SuspiciousVideoGameGenerosity: Commented on, particularly in the ''Eternal Darkness'' playthrough, where they refer to any pre-boss-fight powerup stash as a "boss fountain". At one point in the Cambodian temple, they encounter a room full of shotgun ammunition and begin panicking about the implied upcoming boss fight--then the entire room turns out to be a [[InterfaceScrew hallucination caused by a low sanity meter]]. Matt and Pat express admiration for how thoroughly this tricked them.
* SuspiciouslySpecificDenial: Pat most certainly didn't die during the course of their ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil2'' Let's Play, and they most certainly didn't edit the video.
* TakeThat:
** From ''Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days'':
--->'''Pat:''' God, this is why ''All Points Bulletin'' isn't a fucking game anymore.\
'''Matt:''' [[InvokedTrope Too soon]].
--->'''Pat:''' ''*chuckle*'' No, no. Making fun of ''All Points Bulletin'' is not too soon.
** From ''Disaster: Day of Crisis'':
--->'''Pat:''' I'm gonna jump on his face. Ohhh, take that Creator/JasonStatham, ''Transporter 3'' was garbage!
** ''VideoGame/FistOfTheNorthStarKensRage'' has multiple take that's directed at KOEI:
--->'''Pat:''' So how's it control?\
'''Matt:''' Uh, controls like a shopping cart, actually.\
'''Pat:''' Oh KOEI! Consistent, at least!
** During the Xbox Live Indie Games video:
--->'''Matt''': We're in a gladiator arena in ''Franchise/{{Halo}}'' armor fighting dinosaurs?
--->'''Pat''': This game is dogshit!
--->'''Matt''': At least it's better than fucking [[VideoGame/Halo3ODST ODST]].
** Upon seeing the LJN Toys logo before playing ''Film/TrueLies'':
--->'''Pat:''' Oh, ''fuck''!
** When Matt says ''VideoGame/{{Catherine}}'' is like ''[[VideoGame/{{Fahrenheit}} Indigo Prophecy]]'' if ''[[VideoGame/{{Fahrenheit}}Indigo Prophecy]]'' [[StoryToGameplayRatio was a game]].
** In ''Rise of Nightmares'':
-->'''Pat:''' Dude, where the fuck did you get a Kinect?
-->'''Matt:''' Uh... I was just kinda, you know, dumpster diving behind the deli, and someone had just thrown one out. So you know, why not?
-->(''later, upon seeing zombies'')
-->'''Pat:''' Oh, awesome, they locked fucking Kinect testers in here.
-->'''Matt:''' (as a Kinect tester) "Oh my god, I wasted so much money!"
** [[Film/Catwoman2004 Halle Berry was the best Catwo]]-*punch*
** In ''Pokemon Snap'', upon seeing a slowpoke:
-->'''Matt:''' Hey, it's Kotaku!
-->''Later, once they're reviewing the pictures they took of it.''
-->'''Pat:''' He's like "Why won't anyone talk to me after we post all these unsubstantiated bullshit rumors constantly, next to reviews of cosplay?".
** The ''VideoGame/ZombiU'' video starts out with them making fun of [[Literature/TheZombieSurvivalGuide Max Brooks]], namely the quality of the research for his books.
** While playing an Platform/XboxLiveArcade indie game, "Murder for Dinner":
-->'''Pat:''' I can barely stay awake here!
-->'''Matt:''' But we're not playing ''[[VisualNovel/NineHoursNinePersonsNineDoors 999]]''.
** Episode 12 of Walking Dead has Matt and Pat bashing VG Cats creator Scott Ramsoomair.
** Any series in which the Friends play a David Cage title is this through and through.
** The ''Aliens: Colonial Marines'' episode has quite a few towards Creator/GearboxSoftware and Borderlands. Also as it turns out, [[spoiler:the monster in the live-action segments that are stalking Matt, Pat and Woolie turns out to be Gearbox President Randy Pitchford]].
** During the [=XBox=] Live Indie Games 4 video, while playing yet another crappy platformer:
-->'''Matt:''' As far as platformers go, this is better than ''Videogame/{{FEZ}}''
** Episode 3 of the full ''Disaster'' LP has a moment where Pat worries about whether or not if the guys have "become sellouts" because they've started selling merchandise, and Matt stating that they really haven't because they're not doing something like doing a sponsored LP of the VideoGame/DeadSpace3 demo, basically taking a jab at all of the Lets Players who were a part of EA's infamous Dead Space 3 marketing tactic. They also say it'd seem more like they were selling out if they happened to LP every generic military FPS game released on the market, specifically name dropping ''VideoGame/{{Battlefield}}'' (which they already made fun of in their VideoGame/{{Persona 4}} video).
** In part nine of their ''Metal Gear Rising Revengeance'' series, they make more than a few jabs at [=DarkSydePhil=].
-->'''Pat:''' (imitating DSP) Aww, what da fuck is dis shit?! I can't do anything!
** The third Xbox Live Indie Games episode ends with a "scorecard" evaluating all the games they covered. Several have glowing reviews attributed to well-known websites and critics, the implication that they all have terrible judgment.
** In episode 13 of ''Final Fantasy X'':
-->'''Woolie:''' "I could tell you about Lord Mehen and all the cool adventures he went on, but I won't do it, because this is ''{{VideoGame/Destiny}}''."
** In ''VideoGame/MadMax2015'', they drive out to the boarders of the map, which the game calls "The Big Nothing."
-->'''Matt:''' "I thought they called ''Destiny'' that."
** When starting up {{VideoGame/HyperDragonBallZ}}, Matt references a ''Kotaku'' article that calls it "the Dragon Ball Z fighting game we deserve."
-->'''Matt:''' (after playing a bit) "''Kotaku'' was once right!"
** In ''VideoGame/UntilDawn'':
** Part 1:
-->'''Matt:''' (talking about the choice system in the game) It's better than [[Creator/QuanticDream some French asshole]] sitting in front of you, going "Here's the deal."
** Part 12:
-->'''Matt:''' You know what this is better than?
-->'''Pat:''' What?
-->'''Matt''': [[VideoGame/TheOrder1886 The Order]].
** Part 13:
-->'''Matt:''' I'll just run my ass off and hold L1, which gives me a quicker step, I think that-
-->'''Pat:''' -faster than [[VideoGame/EverybodysGoneToTheRapture Everybody Goes to the Rapture]]-
-->'''Matt:''' -I think, pfff, yeah, well I mean like me sleeping is faster than...
-->'''Pat:''' (fake snooty voice) Mmmwah so posh of you to say.
** Part 15:
-->'''Matt:''' Never buy a David Cage game!
* TemptingFate:
** Twice in ''Survival''. Matt wonders what's the point of shooting some birds; almost immediately afterwards, said birds attack him. Later, Pat thinks the game is starting to get boring, then in the next scene a bear starts destroying an entire camp by itself.
** A nice one in ''Chrono Trigger'' that pays off almost immediately, as Pat [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GASwKzlDSbU&t=23m47s attempts to Cyclone a trio of bats]]:
-->'''Pat:''' And Techs, to my knowledge ''*miss*''... never... miss.
** Also, during the ''Videogame/AlienSoldier'' playthrough, Matt sees a planet and immediately says thaty it's gonna explode for no reason. The game complies.
* ThatCameOutWrong: During ''Gears of War 3'':
-->''After some windows that looked on a bunch of tentacles growing out of the ocean close''\
'''Matt''': They say "Hey look at this thing" and the windows close like "Nuh uh".\
'''Pat''': You only get a taste.\
'''Matt''': You only get a taste of the tentacles... that sounded terrible.
* ThereIsNoKillLikeOverkill: Most of their ''Revengeance'' LetsPlay, and otherwise usually commented on by the Best Friends as "that guy died SUPER hard".
* ThisIsGonnaSuck:
** Pat knows playing ''Videogame/{{Portal 2}}'' with Matt is going to be a pain.
-->'''Pat:''' Okay, let's do this, let's get this over with. Come on.\
'''Matt:''' This is gonna be fun, right?\
'''Pat:''' Okay, yeah yeah, the game is awesome. But you're...an idiot.
** Pat isn't impressed by the beginning of ''Survival'', either:
-->'''Pat:''' The first thing I see is a cursor on the screen and a character running towards the camera. [[SarcasmMode What a good sign of things to come!]]
** The beginning of the ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil6'' video is Matt putting off and arguing with himself about putting the disk in.
** The beginning of ''Man Vs Wild: The Game'' has Pat arguing why Matt would own and want him to play a game of such curious quality.
*** The beginning to ''Cabela's Survival: Shadows of Katmai'' has a similar opening, abliet with Pat even more upset and not even giving Matt a chance to justify, most likely because of Cabela's resemblance to ''Man Vs Wild''.
** In their "Let's Play" of VideoGame/ChronoTrigger, Matt does not seem happy of the prospect of watching Pat play a grind-heavy 50+ hour [=JRPG=]. Matt constantly sounds bored throughout most of the videos.
** Matt did not also enjoy VideoGame/HeavyRain, finding the game uninteresting for the most part. It's really obvious now that Matt does not like Heavy Rain.
** When beginning their [[Webcomic/NuzlockeComics Nuzlocke]] run of ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRedAndBlue LeafGreen]]'':
-->''On-screen text reads "Press A to begin your adventure!"''
-->'''Matt''': Press A to let this horrible mistake commence.
** The intro for Saturday Morning Scrublords is basically the gang [[SuckinessIsPainful writhing in pain]] over the quality of the fighting games they'll be playing.
** Part 4 of Matt and Woolie's Old School Playthrough for ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry'' ends on this note, as they consider the next area, [[EternalEngine Kremkroc]] [[BlackoutBasement Industries Inc]].
-->'''Matt''': Yeah, this world's gonna be a clusterfuck.
*** The sentiment is echoed when they actually begin the area in the next video.
-->'''Matt''': This is gonna be bad.
* TimmyInAWell: A brief gag in ''Survival''.
-->'''Matt:''' Togo? What's that? Pat's stuck in a well? Well, I don't care.
* {{Understatement}}:
** When faced with bad (sometimes downright atrocious) graphics, controls or mechanics, their chief comment will usually be "It's not the greatest."
** When a character goes through an incredibly {{Gorn}}tastic or traumatic event, they usually say "That's ''pretty rough''..."
* UltimateShowdownOfUltimateDestiny: Rustlemania II ends with a huge brawl called the [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucnKnB141Fo Best Friends All-Star Royal Rumble Invitational]], featuring the Best Friends' wrestling avatars, their original characters, and a huge slew of guest fighters. In order of appearance: The Punishment, [[VideoGame/DeadlyPremonition Agent York]], El Woolio, Cactus Pat, Zach, [[WesternAnimation/StevenUniverse Tiger Millionaire]], [[WesternAnimation/ConanTheAdventurer Evillak]], Gorilla Munch, [=UnCenable=], Rage, [=PlagueOfGripes=], [[LetsPlay/TheOnlineWarrior MaximillianDood]], [=CrankyConstruct=], [[Creator/TeamFourStar Takahata101]], [[VideoGame/DefJamSeries Bless]], Zubaz, Pat's Mom, Suckles, [[Franchise/MortalKombat Reptile]], The Shockmaster, Wrestling/RicFlair, [[Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog Big the Cat]], [[VideoGame/RideToHellRetribution Jake Conway]], [[VideoGame/TheWalkingDead Boatmaster Extreme Kenny]], [[VideoGames/LifeIsStrange Warren]], Tour Guide Nixon, [[VideoGame/ShovelKnight Grandma Swamp]], [[VideoGame/PredatorConcreteJungle Jerry the Predator]], [[Creator/QuanticDream David Cage]] and the [[VideoGame/LifeIsStrange Hot Dog Man]]. [[spoiler: In the end, Hot Dog Man is victorious.]]
* UnsettlingGenderReveal: Pat attempts to explain to Matt that Poison from ''Franchise/StreetFighter'' isn't as woman as he thinks she is. Matt remains oblivious.
-->'''Pat:''' There's a penis in there!\
'''Matt:''' ... [[ComicallyMissingThePoint Yeah, mine!]]
* VerbalTic:
** Both Matt and Pat have a tendency to end sentences with "even," "already," or "though."
** During the full playthrough of ''VideoGame/DarkSoulsII'', Pat develops a sudden habit of ending every piece of advice with "Know what I mean?" or "Know what I'm sayin'?"
** His "Excuse me"s to the various enemies during ''VideoGame/TheEvilWithin'' arguably count, as he admits later on that it had to be pointed out to him that he was doing it.
* VideogameCaringPotential: When playing The Walking Dead and The Last Of Us, Matt and Pat grew quite attached to Clementine and Ellie respectively, even though they often mock the latter. Most notably, [[spoiler:Pat was ''not'' OK with the idea of cutting up Ellie's brain for a vaccine and later on seemed to seriously contemplate killing off all the surgeons in the ending.]]
* VideogameCrueltyPotential:
** If they can kill someone in a game, it's a safe bet they will. (Though they tend to be much less cruel in their full-length playthroughs, particularly in games with consequences for dickish behavior.)
** Matt goes particularly nuts during ''VideoGame/DeusExHumanRevolution'', and eventually just starts punching out and stabbing everyone, culminating with telling Megan's mother about how her daughter died horribly and painfully followed by punching her in the face. Years later, when they make the game a full LetsPlay, Pat mercilessly executes people he knocks out for their loot. [[note]]This doesn't actually net any more loot.[[/note]] He even does this to civilians for a while, only stopping (mostly) when Matt points out that civilians don't have anything to steal.
** Their video for ''VideoGame/{{The Punisher|THQ}}''; unsurprising, given that's the entire point of the game.
** Late in the ''VideoGame/SleepingDogs2012'' episode, a girl they've been dating in the game [[spoiler: breaks up with them because she found out they've been cheating on her.]] [[CrossesTheLineTwice Cut to them]] [[ComedicSociopathy throwing her down a flight of stairs.]]
** After accidentally killing a cat in ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedIII'', Pat goes nuts and stabs a pig, a lady, and punches a beaver.
** In ''Beyond: Two Souls'', Pat makes a point of choosing what he considers as the worst options in order to see how far the game will let him go.
** In their playthrough of the adventure game ''Tormentum: Dark Sorrows'', the ''second'' Woolie tells Pat the game's morality system is completely binary he immediately kills a prisoner for no reason and proceeds to long-dive into evil dickishness.
* VillainHasAPoint: Will lampshades when this happens. Such as Pat pointing out the team owner's decision to [[spoiler: ban Vic]] in ''VideoGame/{{NBA 2K}}16 Livin' Da Dream'' as totally in his power and super reasonable since [[spoiler: Vic is a troublemaker and he doesn't have to let him in his arena.]]
* VisualPun: The intro for the ''VideoGame/SleepingDogs2012'' video features a pair of sleeping dogs.
* VitriolicBestBuds:
** Even though it says "Best Friends" in the title, they keep insulting each other every time they play together.
-->'''Pat:''' I'm dying again. I'm dying -- Stop calling me friend!
** Another example during ''Gears of War 3'':
-->'''Matt''': Is there any better screen than "Pat has died"?
* TheVoice: There are one, possibly two ladies that have an unexplained acquaintance with Matt and Pat that sometimes help with multiplayer games. They are never named, talked to directly, and their voices are only picked up on Matt and Pat's microphones.
* WallOfText: Pat's reaction to these is "[[PrecisionFStrike Fuck it]], don't care." Alternatively, he might sum it up (usually as "shit's fucked").
* WaxingLyrical: When dealing with the creepy "frogchild" in ''VideoGame/Inside2016'', Woolie speculates that she's had a rough life and "just needs a little TLC." Cue this exchange:
-->'''Woolie:''' She's never had a sleepover, she's never had...
-->'''Matt:''' Like, this frogchild, all she's spent her life doing is chasing waterfalls. You really need to make sure she snaps out of that behavior.
-->'''Woolie:''' At the very least, [[Music/{{TLC}} sticks to the rivers and the lakes that she's used to]].
* WhamLine:
** A pretty funny one.
--->'''Matt:''' Pat?... Pat...? [[spoiler:Why is there [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic ponies]] on your... desktop?]]
** From Friendcast Mailbag:
---> '''Woolie''': [[AffectionateNickname Wolfz]]: An [[spoiler:atomic purple ''[[Platform/GameBoyColor Game Boy Color...?]]'']]
* WhoWillBellTheCat: At the end of The Last of Us, Pat notes that it's awfully easy to talk about "the needs of the many" when it's not you that's making the sacrifice.
* WhyDontYouJustShootHim: Pat talks about this during the playthrough of ''VideoGame/HeavyRain'' when [[spoiler:Shelby and Lauren are stuck instead a sinking car]] to die instead of, well, shot dead.
* WhyWontYouDie: Pat to [[VideoGame/{{Gun}} Betsy, the Whore of Steel]].
* WritersCannotDoMath: Patt has pointed out the number of times Japanese games horribly under weight or under height characters. Such as [[VideoGame/ResidentEvil2 Sherry]] being only two and a half feet.
* YouKeepUsingThatWord: Video 28 of ''VideoGame/{{Nier}}'' reveals that Pat is mildly aggravated by people's misuse of the word "sentient". He notes that while it means having the ability to use the five senses, people often misuse it to mean being able to think and reason about the world around you. The intended word is '"sapient". He adds that even ''Franchise/StarTrek'' misuses "sentient".
* YourAnswerToEverything:
** In the full version of ''VideoGame/HeavyRain''.
--->'''Matt:''' That's my solution for everything! Either pour Coke on people's faces or elbow drop them.
** In their stream of Woolie's playthrough of ''Heavy Rain,'' the guys repeatedly decide that all the characters should just get a dog. Later, when they are making fun of the child characters' [[OohMeAccentsSlipping bad American accents]], Pat says it would be better if they just dubbed dogs barking over the dialogue; something the chat pointed out continued the {{Running Gag}}.
** Shows up in ''VideoGame/ChronoTrigger'':
--->'''Pat:''' I mean, smashing dudes with your sword. Seems pretty good.\
'''Matt:''' Seems like an answer to almost everything this world can throw at you.\
'''Pat:''' Yeah... "Hey, my taxes came back fucked." "Well, just hit 'em with your sword!" "Thanks!"
* YourMom:
** From the ''VideoGame/ResidentEvil4'' video:
--->'''Matt:''' Oh great, caves. I love caves.\
'''Pat:''' Don't you like dark, moist places?\
'''Matt:''' I like your mom's dark moist place.\
'''Pat:''' How about I kill you?\
'''Matt:''' How about no?
** From the ''VideoGame/AssassinsCreedBrotherhood'' episode:
--->(After Pat is poisoned and killed)\
'''Pat:''' Aw, fuck!\
'''Matt:''' Ahaha! Yeah, you're a real combat specialist!\
'''Pat:''' Your mom is a fucking combat specialist.\
'''Matt:''' What?\
'''Pat:''' With my dick.
** Incredibly, according to Pat, it [[http://youtu.be/DFGirY8MqHA?t=17m30s has come to light]] that Pat's mom has watched some videos and finds the digs Matt makes against her [[ActuallyPrettyFunny pretty funny]].
