''Waterworks'' is an InteractiveComic, created by [=LuFa=] as a [[Webcomic/MSPaintAdventures MSPA Forum Adventure]]; apart from normal and animated panels, it also makes use of Flash animations accompanied by music, ''Webcomic/{{Homestuck}}''-style.\

It follows the adventures of Connie Cohen, a "concerned citizen" who arrives at the local waterworks to investigate the mysterious lack of water in her household. As it turns out, the facility has been taken over by a gang of thugs who apparently wish to steal the water for reasons unknown, and it is up to Connie to stop them. And, of course, then it turns out that there is far more at stake than that...\

Combat and action abound throughout.\

It can be read [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=1 here]].

!!This comic displays the following tropes:
%% * AbandonedArea: Derelix. [[spoiler:Actually another planet.]]
* AllThereInTheManual: Information not revealed in the comic is posted on the [[http://shakks.tumblr.com/tagged/lore/chrono author's]] [[http://shakks.tumblr.com/tagged/world+building+june/chrono blog]], along with [[https://shakks.tumblr.com/tagged/extras/chrono various extras]].
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: The thugs are blue. [[spoiler:Well, Slick is white, and only his suit is blue.]]
--> '''Connie:''' [[LampshadeHanging So, why are you guys all blue?]]
--> '''Slick:''' THAT'S RACIST
%% * BadassCape: Acquired by Connie later on, made from a towel.
%% * BattleDiscretionShot: [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=413 This page,]] complete with [[ScreenShake the entire image shaking]].
* BattleInTheCenterOfTheMind:
** [[spoiler:Connie and her Id wage war against an alien hivemind threatening to consume her.]]
** [[spoiler:Later on, Connie and Laze's Egos battle in the center of the HiveMind.]]
* BerserkButton: Connie goes for an off-screen ExtremeMeleeRevenge after being splashed with what she thinks could be toilet water.
%% * BigOlEyebrows: Tubs. "Tubs' brow is too furrowed for the mace to get into his eyes!"
* BladeBelowTheShoulder: [[spoiler:Everyone in [=Slick/Rheo Wasser's=] underground civillization get four of these, on the arms and legs, at birth and are supposed to care for them until the end of their life.]]
* BoldInflation: Pretty much every other word is bolded! Only in the original forum thread though; the mirror eschews all of this boldage.
%% * BrickJoke: The worker who "Spins on his head like a [[Franchise/{{Pokemon}} Hitmontop]]." [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=124 here]].
%% * BridalCarry: [[spoiler:Slick [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=506 carries Connie this way]] when they're heading to the elevator.]]
%% * BucketHelmet: [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=423 Kitchen pot.]]
%% * ByWallThatIsHoley: [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=568 Slick's repair module.]]
%% * TheCameo: At one point in the comic, [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=1968 Matchsticks and Sawbuck make a quick appearance.]] (Spoilers!)
%% * CantBatheWithoutAWeapon:
%% ** [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=181 Connie fantasizes about it.]]
%% ---> ''Oh man, that totally would've been cool. You'd be in the shower, and the guy would pull back the curtain and have his knife out, but then you'd have your axe and he'd be all oh shit and you'd be all like [[{{Pun}} can i axe you a question]]''
%% ** And she actually [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=160 takes a shower with her axe handy.]]
%% * CapeSwish: [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=223 Mwa ha ha.]]
%% * CarryABigStick: A mace (transformed from a [[IncrediblyLamePun CAN OF MACE]]).
* ChandlersLaw: The plot stalls... suddenly, [[spoiler:[[https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/57523586/mspa/Waterworks/Adventure%20Images/animation14.swf forklift mecha crashing through the door! Followed by Tubs.]]]].
%% * CrowdPanic: [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=406 This page.]] Though it's more of a mass jawdrop.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: The factory employees are referred to simply by their job titles. Connie herself is just a "concerned citizen" and doesn't get named until a few hundred pages in.
%% * TheFaceless: Slick, [[spoiler:except in his expository flashback]].
%% * FlatWhat: [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=523 Wat.]] (In reaction to [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=520 this]].)
%% * GagEcho: "that's new" -- [[spoiler:When Slick and Connie each see the black goo "tree" for the first time.]]
%% * GeniusBruiser: [[spoiler:[[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=562 Typhoon]]]], apparently.
%% * GISSyndrome: Most of the inventory items, as well as the backgrounds in [[spoiler:José]]'s {{Flashback}}.
* GrievousHarmWithABody: Tubbs throwing severed heads at Juliet, right as she readies grenades.
* HairTriggerTemper: Connie gets angry rather easily... usually with [[YouWouldntLikeMeWhenImAngry destructive results]]; as it turns out, this is pretty much the main reason she has [[IJustWantToHaveFriends barely any friends]], let alone [[IJustWantToBeLoved a boyfriend.]]
* HyperspaceArsenal: The mood ring, where each specific mood is a separate inventory slot that can only be accessed when Connie is in that mood. A source of much frustration.
* IconicItem: [[spoiler:The subjects wearing special suits each has their own unique harpoon. Slick's is a pair of blades attached to a [[SpectacularSpinning spinning pivot]] while Surge's is a GrapplingGun.]]
%% * ImagineSpot: An EasterEgg in the "Ride." animation.
%% * ImprovisedWeapon: [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=411 A laser pointer]].
%% * InformedDeformity: [[spoiler:Mist. Supposedly incredibly ugly, but, as Connie lampshades, [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=560 by media standards she's hot.]] However, it is apparently mostly because of the deformity affecting her wrist/ankle blades.]]
%% * InnocentBystanders: The waterworks workers. At least initially.
* InSpiteOfANail: In an attempt to prevent her date with LL from going wrong like it did the first time, Connie convinces him to go to the Alpha Hall instead of the Skylight, which is where the Mist look-alike crashed their date. Unfortunately, she shows up at the Alpha Hall and manages to lure LL away anyways, much to Connie's frustration.
%% * InstantCostumeChange: [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=182 "Oh yeah. Now you're a hero."]]
%% * {{Jetpack}}: José can use his water hose (made of a toilet tank) as a primitive jetpack.
%% * KnockoutGas: Juliet's specialty.
* LiterallyShatteredLives: In the flashback, José freezes Pvt. Chambers and Caddie with a snowglobe, and shatters the former with the butt of his gun.
* MadeOfIron:
** How Connie manages to survive through everything she does boggles the mind.
** Tubs is unfazed after being suplexed by the forklift mecha and keeps going after a direct hit from Endian.
%% * MistakenNationality: José ''hates'' being called "French".
%% * MostCommonSuperpower: Connie. [[spoiler: And Mist]].
* MustMakeAmends: Connie needs to fix the situation once she [[spoiler:destroys the fish whose smell was the only thing keeping the workers safe from Tubs]].
%% * NeatFreak: Connie's fear of dirty toilets.
%% * TheNoseless: The art style makes everyone into this.
%% * PerpetualFrowner: [[spoiler:Mist]].
%% * ThePlace
* PortalPool: The Spatial Transport ability of Slick's suit allows Slick to use any puddle as a portal to any other puddle. Spatial Transport II is this for any body of water.
%% * PoweredArmor: Slick's suit. Has a lot of funky features.
%% * PresentTenseNarrative: Except for [[spoiler:Slick's backstory exposition break.]]
%% * PunnyName: Some of the green people from the interlude, based on wordplay from their ThemeNaming.
%% * RecordNeedleScratch: When past-Connie's plan to get the Mist-lookalike drunk is derailed by LL taking the strong drink instead.
%% * RedEyesTakeWarning: Flush gets these as soon as he boots up his [[SpinAttack Cyclone Cistern]].
%% * SaveTheVillain: Connie, towards José, when she has a [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=87 change of heart]] after almost killing him in a fit of fury.
%% * SecondPersonNarration
* ShoutOut:
** [=Urist McWorkman=] is one walking ''VideoGame/DwarfFortress'' reference.
** Also, there's the aforementioned "Hitmontop" worker. In addition to spinning around on his head, he attempts to use triple-kick on Slick. Later, Slick is told to "mash the B button" to stop [[spoiler:one of the goo creatures]] from evolving.
** The sisters Philia and Phobia are [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros two overall & cap wearing plumber siblings, one red and one green.]] There's also one to ''VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine'' when Connie asks José if he's going to use his pack to fly around collecting blue coins.
** [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=885 This panel]] is a reference to ''WebComic/{{Prequel}}''
** Johnny from the interlude looks like ''WesternAnimation/JohnnyBravo'' especially when you consider his position in the team's ThemeNaming.
** Charlie's pumpkin is a reference to the RunningGag from ''WebComic/MSPaintAdventures''.
%% * SpinAttack: Flush's Cyclone Cistern ability. [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=242 It gets truly spectacular]].
%% * SplitScreenPhoneCall: [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=518 Radio conversation between Urist and the supervisor.]]
* StarterVillain: Tubs, Flush, and Jose are the primary threats for the first part of the comic, but after the story moves to the basement and beyond, they haven't made an appearance in the present since and more pressing and wide-reaching problems (namely the goo) have to be dealt with, though they did later get a flashback interlude of their own.
%% * StreetUrchin: [[spoiler:José]], in his youth.
* SuperStrength: Tubs seems to border on this, at least. Wielding a stone pillar like a normal weapon and lifting the entire [[VisualPun Rifle Tower]] into his bag is no normal feat.
%% * SweatDrop: [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=368 Here.]]
* {{Ultraterrestrials}}: [[spoiler:[=Slick/Rheo's=] civilization.]]
%% * TalkingWeapon: The axe. Despite its ominous red glow, it just wants to cut down trees.
* ThemeNaming:
** Slick, Flush, Tubs, and José (Hose) all have a plumbing theme.
** Philia and Phobia, the heavy plumber sisters.
** [[spoiler:Slick, Mist, Typhoon, Surge, Syphon and Mariner are water-related.]]
** The green antagonists in the interlude are based on the NATO phonetic alphabet.
%% * TinyHeadedBehemoth: Endian from the interlude. [[spoiler:Actually two different people]].
%% * UnstoppableRage: [[spoiler: Connie]]... Has anger issues.
%% * VillainProtagonist: The flashback intermission has the blue boys as protagonists, where they fight a Felt-like gang of green people with powers.
%% * WeaksauceWeakness: Tubs's is [[spoiler:the smell of cheap fish]].
* WhamEpisode:
** Derelix and the revelation that [[spoiler:the black goo is some sort of organism]]. There's also the easter egg during the dance sequence where it turns out that [[spoiler:Connie has been infected by the goo SO BADLY that her skin's turned completely black]].
** [[spoiler:Connie is told by her Superego that she died and didn't wake up from her coma. The goo took over her body, proliferated and ate up the entire planet.]]
%% * WhatsAHenway: [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=527 The "updog" variety]] (warning: spoiler link.)
* WhoForgotTheLights: A rare non-video game example. Whenever there's something happening in the underground, you really should turn your monitor's brightness up to the max if you want to be able to tell what's going on.
* WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes: Connie is pretty germ-phobic, specifically in relation to toilets, and will freak out at the drop of a hat about them.
%% * WingdingEyes: [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=299 "he can't be dead! his eyes aren't X's!"]]
%% * XRayVision: One of the abilities offered by Slick's suit. Though it requires the suit to [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=336 release x-rays]] which are harmful to living beings in the vicinity.
%% * YeahShot: "We're gonna steal the [[https://mspfa.com/?s=43&p=602 water cycle!]]
