Peter Paltridge, who later became the host of Website/PlatypusComix, began ''[[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?seriesID=6 Scrambled Eggs]]'' in 1990. [[InNameOnly Loosely adapted]] from a juvenile fiction novel titled ''Hello, My Name is Scrambled Eggs'', the comic features Tuan Nuaghen, a Vietnamese boy adopted by a Massachusetts-based family with [[OnlyOneName no confirmed last name]]. Peter's longest-running comic, the series features random exploits of Tuan and his adoptive siblings Quint ([[TheSmartGuy The Smart]] {{Jerkass}}), Harvey ([[StraightMan The Straight Man]]), and Julia (TheHeart), with fluctuating levels of realism and MediumAwareness.

* ArtEvolution: Pretty much inevitable for a comic with stories spanning 20 years: Here's a page of a comic from [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/kristmas/index.php?issue=1&page=12&seriesID=8 1991]], and here's one from [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=8&page=6&seriesID=6 2010]].
* BlandNameProduct: Most products in comics are referred to by real-world names, but occasionally Peter will use this trope. [[HilarityEnsues Hilarity usually ensues]] when he does, as evidenced by examples [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=4&page=8 Creepy-Looking Teenage Dolls With No Noses]] and ''[[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=7&page=12 We Do Stuff!]]''.
* BornLucky: According to Peter, "Tuan has been in TV ads, invented major products, won the Nobel Prize and been involved with Hollywood and major politicians in various issues, oftentimes without warning or explanation."
* BreakoutCharacter: Tuan, as Harvey became demoted from the main character to one who's "usually just there to react to everyone else."
* BrickJoke: "Film/TheWizard II: Fax Me an Angel" includes a scene where Michelle, the kids' DumbBlonde neighbor, decides to [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=7&page=9 search the country for the boys]] and force them to attend her birthday party. [[spoiler: [[ShaggyDogStory Unbeknownst to her, the boys never left Massachusetts.]]]] The last panel of the comic shows her [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=7&page=20&seriesID=6 rowing to Hawaii]].
* TheCameo: Tuan [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=8&page=9 meets Riff Randell]] from ''Film/RockAndRollHighSchool'' during "It's Square to Be Hip". (Peter [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/people/riff.html reviewed]] that movie a few months earlier.)
* CanonImmigrant: [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=8&page=14 [=TeBOING!ss=]]], a Music/{{Kesha}} pastiche from "It's Square to Be Hip", later appeared in ''Webcomic/{{Mulberry}}'' and ''Webcomic/PrincessPi'' comics.
* ChekhovsGag: Three in "Wack Friday:"
** Quint drugs the [[ThanksgivingEpisode Thanksgiving]] turkey to prevent Harvey and Tuan from beating him to buying a Platform/NintendoWii, only to discover no one ate the turkey except Julia. Her [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=6&page=4 going unconscious]] as a result receives at least two callbacks.
** A woman [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=6&page=5 impulsively buys]] a ''Series/{{Friends}}'' Complete Series DVD selling for $9.99, laughs and happily screams all her way home, sets the DVD on her table, calms down, and immediately regrets the purchase, throwing the DVD out the window. Later, she returns to the store, finds [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=6&page=9 Julia sleeping next to a "75% off" sign]], impulsively buys ''her'', and repeats the whole gag.
** Quint [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=6&page=8&seriesID=6 buys]] a [[spoiler:[[ShoddyKnockoffProduct Wee DVD Player]]]] from Michelle, who [[spoiler:previously mistook it for a genuine Wii]]. The payoff is listed under "Jerk With A Heart Of [[spoiler:Jerk]]"
* ComplainingAboutShowsYouDontWatch: In universe, Quint hates Jimmy Zoopie-Doo purely because of overexposure and his own lack of faith that teen singers can produce quality songs; the only Zoopie-Doo song he ever heard was a ''[[Series/{{Glee}} Gee]]'' cast member's [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=8&page=13 cover]], which to Quint's credit, [[StylisticSuck has pretty awful lyrics]].
* CoolAndUnusualPunishment: In "[[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=3&pageType=index&seriesID=6 IT....HAD FUR]]!" the kids receive visits from [[spoiler: the 2003 live-action [[Film/TheCatInTheHat Cat in the Hat]] and various other poorly-conceived live-action Creator/DrSeuss characters]].
* CrossoverPunchline: Beefer from ''Webcomic/{{Keiki}}'' greets Michelle when [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=7&page=20&seriesID=6 she reaches Hawaii]] in "The Wizard II".
* DolledUpInstallment: WordOfGod says "The Wizard II" started out as a ''Webcomic/{{Mulberry}}'' comic criticizing casual video games.
* DumbBlonde: Michelle, who's quite unpopular as a result.
* EpisodeTitleCard: Every issue from 2004 onward has a title card in lieu of a front cover.
* EverybodyLaughsEnding: "Scrambled Eggs: LA" [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=5&page=10 has one]], [[LampshadeHanging prompting Harvey to ask what's so funny about going to Jamba Juice]].
* GainaxEnding: Peter tries to make [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=2&page=2&seriesID=6 one]] for ''Series/TheXFiles'' in "Retro Cafe".
* GuestStrip: The issue containing "Revenge" and "Dream Dream Dream" also has a story written and drawn by Peter's cousin, Stephanie Lunduren, titled, "[[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=11&page=15 Tuan's Picnic Video]]".
* HappyBirthdayToYou: When Michelle [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=4&page=11 sings "Happy Birthday" to herself]] in "Leap of Doom," she uses the lyrics for the ThisLoserIsYou version.
* HeartIsAnAwesomePower: Awesome Blossom from the site's Variety Section makes appearances in "Retro Cafe" and uses her "Heart Power" to [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=2&page=18&seriesID=6 burn down the Crazy People Tent]].
* HiddenInPlainSight: Tuan spends the last six pages of "Season's Greetings! Bah Humbug!" searching the town for his Christmas present. The [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/kristmas/index.php?issue=1&page=17 last panel]] shows it underneath his adoptive family's Christmas tree.
* {{Homage}}: Tuan is left Film/HomeAlone in "[[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=1&pageType=index&seriesID=6 Summer Break-Tuan Style!]]" and proceeds through various references to the classic comedy, such as catching unwelcome guests with booby traps lifted directly from the movie.
* IDoNotLikeGreenEggsAndHam: "It's Square to Be Hip" has Quint [[ItsPopularNowItSucks expressing disgust at the current generation of teen singers]], until Harvey [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=8&page=18 catches him]] [[spoiler: listening to Music/JustinBieber's cover of "[[Series/SesameStreet Rubber Duckie]]"]]
* IdiosyncraticEpisodeNaming: In the first panel of each comic, the title is written as "Scrambled Eggs in X," [[IAmNotShazam even though the title doesn't refer to any character or team in the comic.]]
* InNameOnly: Peter says the only similarities this comic shares with ''Hello, My Name is Scrambled Eggs'' include some character names and the Vietnamese kid's catchphrase. ("No kidding!") The boys weren't even brothers in the book.
* IntelligibleUnintelligible: Creator/ArnoldSchwarzenegger, [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=5&page=3&seriesID=6 according]] to "Scrambled Eggs: LA".
* InvisibleParents: Tuan's adoptive mother only appears in two of the ''Scrambled Eggs'' comics that are still on the site, and his adoptive father only appears in ''one'' of the archived comics. Also, Tuan and his adoptive siblings never met Michelle's parents, a fact [[LampshadeHanging lampshaded]] in "IT...HAD FUR!" as Quint [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=3&page=4&seriesID=6 rose the possibility]] that she doesn't have any.
** In "Summer Break-Tuan Style," Peter drew [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=1&page=5&seriesID=6 a sign]] next to the mother, which references the fact she rarely appears.
* [[JerkWithAHeartOfJerk Jerk With A Heart Of]] [[spoiler: [[JerkWithAHeartOfJerk Jerk]]]]: Quint proves he's one at [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=6&page=12 the end of "Wack Friday"]].
* LiveActionAdaptation: The Head Executive of Platypus Comix [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=3&page=9&seriesID=6 proposes one]] at the end of "IT.....HAD FUR!"
-->'''Head Executive:''' There's no better way to make a decent creation look stupid than to make a real guy dress like it!
-->'''Tuan:''' But why would you-
-->'''Head Executive:''' Hey, it's what the people demand! They just don't realize they're demanding it!
* NonStandardCharacterDesign: Julia has a simple spiral for hair instead of a more realistic hairstyle, a relic of the days when Peter drew all his girls with curly hair in order to distinguish them from boys.
* OlderThanTheyThink: Occurs in-universe in "It's Square To Be Hip": Tuan [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=8&page=5 develops an obsession]] for Music/HueyLewisAndTheNews whilst blissfully unaware that their music is pushing 30.
* PainfulRhyme: The tormentor from "IT...HAD FUR!" does a few invoked examples, including some achieved through {{Perfectly Cromulent Word}}s.
* ScienceFair: Peter has written some comics in which Quint loses science fair prizes to Tuan.
* SkintoneSclerae
* SuckECheeses: Michelle's 2004 birthday party took place at Chunky Cheesy, as documented in "[[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=4&pageType=index&seriesID=6 Leap of Doom]]."
* ShoutOut:
** The [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=2&seriesID=6 cover]] of "Retro Cafe" looks similar to a scene from ''Film/DrStrangelove''.
** Tuan [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=6&page=7 obtains]] Creator/ArnoldSchwarzenegger's Wii by telling him to go stop [[Film/JingleAllTheWay Phil Hartman from hitting on his wife]].
** Huey Lewis [[spoiler: dies]] in "It's Square To Be Hip", but [[spoiler: his brothers [[ComicBook/DisneyDucksComicUniverse Dewy Lewis and Louie Lewis]] [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=8&page=20 promise to carry on his legacy]]]].
* TakeThat: "[[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=5&pageType=index&seriesID=6 Scrambled Eggs LA]]" doubles as an AffectionateParody of 1980s detective shows and Peter's way of addressing several things wrong with 21st Century Disney (such as Creator/DisneyChannel's NetworkDecay and the mediocrity of [[Ride/DisneyThemeParks Disney's California Adventure]]).
** In fact, practically all of the stories released after Platypus Comix's transition to color serve as {{Take That}}s to some aspect of modern pop culture.
* VerbalTic: Tuan frequently exclaimed, "No kidding!" when he didn't know much English. Today, he continues to exclaim it, even after expanding his vocabulary.
** [[LampshadeHanging Lampshaded]] in "[[http://www.platypuscomix.net/kristmas/index.php?issue=1&page=16 Season's Greetings! Bah Humbug!]]" written back in 1991.
* WholePlotReference: "Film/TheWizard II: [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=7&page=0 Fax Me an Angel]]" has Jimmy Woods once again compete in a video game tournament and go to California, this time in his middle ages and competing against casual gamers. [[spoiler: Also, the tournament takes place in Massachusetts; he doesn't go to California until he decides to move there after winning.]]
* WrittenInAbsence: Julia asks Quint why Harvey isn't present in "Retro Cafe," so he explains that [[http://www.platypuscomix.net/scrambledeggs/index.php?issue=2&page=15&seriesID=6 Harvey's on jury duty]].
