''[[http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/Charby_the_Vampirate/ Charby the Vampirate]]'' is a webcomic that has been hosted on the webcomic site Platform/TheDuck since 2004, and Platform/ComicFury since 2021, with a few tweaks and new pages added to smooth out the pacing from the 2006 version, that is intended to be ''the'' definitive version of the story, with the original run of the webcomic still available to read on its original site. Though it preceded the other two "Vampirates" by a year, it wasn't terribly notable until the art improved. It started off as a loosely linear, dark comedy, based on horror movie send ups and a [[TakeThat Take That]] of the [[SpinoffBabies Spinoff Babies]] phenomenon but revealed later that it actually has a plot and detailed setting. [[https://www.patreon.com/Charby Patreon]] supporters of the comic have access to more content and lore.

The title is a bit deceptive because while the titular character is a main character, [[EnsembleCast he's not THE main character]]. The comic revolves around the trials and tribulations, lives and unlives of the various denizens of an isolated tourist town named "Kellwood". The comic typically focuses on the residents of a bizarre cabin in the woods, where Charby and his werewolf best friend Menu have accumulated a crowd of friends that now live there too. It also follows the goings-on of a monster hunting organization that is keeping the evil beasties living in Kellwood's dense, mountainous forests from snacking on the town's residents. Currently the cast amounts to more than 95 named characters, all with their own personalities.

The "Vampirate" bit is addressed within the first few revamped (ha! pun!) pages of the character's origin, and is referred to in some of the character's traits (his weapon of choice is two hooks, and his battle cry is "Yarrr!" and he wears a lot of stripey pirate shirts).

Despite some instances of gratuitous blood spilling (it is paying homage to monster movies after all) the comic is actually pretty tame beyond that, as there's no swearing, nudity, sex or obvious fan service. A few cheeky jokes here, and there but nothing offensive. It's rather more like a hyperviolent children's Saturday morning cartoon, if anything.

!!This comic provides examples of:

[[foldercontrol]]

[[folder:A -- D]]
* AdultsAreUseless: For the most part. The number of unsupervised children that make their way to be killed or maimed in the forest is ridiculously high considering that it is well known to be a place where people disappear. Victor has two parents who don't believe him about the supernatural and those adults which do and are protecting him are trying to get him to ignore it while hiding themselves and their intentions towards him.
* AbusiveParents: So so many. Zeno’s parents behaved as if they didn’t even have a son before abandoning him in a monster filled forest.Victor’s mother is a terrible woman who treats everything that goes even slightly wrong with him or his brother as his fault, jumps to the conclusion that his injuries and illnesses are a sign of a budding serial killer and drug-dealer and refuses to get him any help or properly cooperate with child services in order to ensure her family stays “normal”. Victor’s father supports his wife unconditionally and defends her adamantly to anyone who questions her horrible treatment of her children. Daray’s parents much preferred his elder brother and sent him on his dragon hunt intending he never return before disowning him and [[spoiler: putting a kill on sight bounty on him]].
* AccidentalMurder: Charby accidentally kills a teenager he only intended to frighten in order to teach the rude kid a lesson due to his poor control over his strength combined with relative human fragility.
* AchillesHeel: Vampires have the traditional ones of [[HolyBurnsEvil holy water]], [[WeakenedByTheLight sunlight]], [[VampiresHateGarlic garlic]], and the [[BeatItByCompulsion need to count]]. Alps loose almost all their powers if their [[MagicHat tarnkappe]] is stolen and are also weak to [[ColdIron iron]], [[WeaksauceWeakness lemons]], and must [[TailorMadePrison leave through the same place they entered]]. Werewolves can only be reliably killed with [[SilverHasMysticPowers silver]].
* ActionGirl: The women working in Blaine’s hunter organization are all excellent shots with a crossbow and gun and decent to excellent martial artists as well.
* AdultsAreUseless: Adults in Kellwood are generally useless as children are rarely seen with any sort of adult supervision. On a more specific note Victor was haunted by the supernatural trying to kill him growing up and parents who not only refused to believe anything he said about the attacks but that any attacks were happening at all.
* AffectionateGestureToTheHead: Bert ruffles Blaine's hair after saving a teen aged Blaine from a werewolf. Charby gives Vic a noogie after they reconcile.
* TheAlcoholic: Sadick’s mangled ear and missing eye occurred in bar fights and he eventually had to leave his home in a drunken haze.
* AlienBlood: The Orrotta have violet [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/1039 blood.]]
* AllAnimeIsNaughtyTentacles: Implied for threat:
--> '''Hydrangea Benson:''' What is the meaning of this [[SailorFuku ridiculous school outfit]]?! \
'''Kavonn:''' ''That'' is a warning. You had best leave before I have a [[PowerPerversionPotential bad hair day]]!
* AllGirlsWantBadBoys: Torie claims she always liked bad boys and is interested in Daray to try and get him to drop his guard so she can kill him but he doesn't buy it for a minute.
* AllThereInTheManual: There is a fair amount of information not explicitly in the comic that can be found on the wiki or the author’s posts which explain things about some of the monsters in Kellwood and when things are taking place.
* AllMenArePerverts: A pretty face and a large bust size is all it takes to distract (and get lewd comments from) nearly all the male characters in the comic.
* AllTrollsAreDifferent: Here they are pointy eared, horned and [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/1081 green]].
* AlternateIdentityAmnesia: Werewolves have this, as does [[spoiler:Charby]] after acquiring a [[SuperPoweredEvilSide super-powered evil side]].
* AlternateUniverse: The wraith is from an alternate timeline/earth where among other things [[spoiler:Zeno]] lived to adulthood rather than ending up a child sized zombie, Menu was a teenager rather than child when he was turned into a werewolf, Kavon was worn out much further by magic and his staff badly damaged, and Hex was left catatonic by his and Mye's escape from the Bear King. How he arrived in the verse in which Charby and the others live is unknown.
* AlwaysChaoticEvil: Initially the Skzzldrix, until the first good parent seen in the comic is a very nice one that loves puns and horrible dad jokes. For the most part they're self absorbed greedy murderers and theives.
* AndIMustScream: [[spoiler: Cyril]]’s fate of being pinned [[spoiler: by his own blade]] unable to move or die and reduced to a skeletal appearance.
* AnimalGenderBender Charby's "skeetos", Sanguine and Malaria are male blood drinkers.
* AnxietyDreams: Charby [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/1007 has these.]] After a friend looses control and [[spoiler: blows up Charby’s head]].
* ApologizesALot: Zeno. It starts to really grate on Tony within a month of moving in, though he doesn’t really know Zeno very well yet and they become close friends anyway.
* ArtEvolution: Here's [[http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/Charby_the_Vampirate/4781820/ one of the first pages]] and [[http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/Charby_the_Vampirate/5334041/ a more recent page]].
* ArtShift: This [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/916 dream of Tony’s.]]
** Charby’s imagine spot [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/88 here.]]
** Tony’s [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/870 escape plan.]]
** Kavonn [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/903 recapping events for Yiska.]]
** Kavonn explaining [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/1003 the downside of a manticore as a mount.]]
** Hex summarizing his and Myes' pasts [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/1047 here.]]
** Mannick trying to [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/1067 explain his portals to Tony]] [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/1090 and Charby.]]
** [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/2 The Prologue]] is penciled in greyscale.
* AssholeVictim: Most of Hexavier’s victims are this.
* AteItAll: Menu does this, at least once with a meal all the housemates were looking forward to and has to face consequences.
* TheAtoner: Daray sets out to atone for hunting dragons, and believing the lies about them he was fed as a child after befriending a half-dragon.
* AttractiveZombie: Mye has quite a few admirers among short demons and fay. It helps that in many ways her body is alive if not aging and therefore not rotting.
* BackFromTheDead: Many of the characters start out already having done this:
** Charby was killed and came back as a vampire in the 1600s
** Hex and Mye were killed and brought back as zombies in the 1680s
** The Petrucci siblings were killed and came back as vampires in the 1800s
** [[spoiler: Zeno]] was resurrected shortly before the start of the comic.
** Gabby comes back as a vampire after Charby tried to kill the child early on in the comic.
** [[spoiler: Mye]] is brought back by Hex after [[spoiler: Zeno]] accidentally kills her in a fit of rage when she steps between him and his intended target.
* BadassAdorable Sure, they could kill us. But they're so CUTE!
* BadassBoast: When Zeno is freaking out over endangering his newfound friends:
-->'''Charby:''' I don't think we've been properly introduced. I'm Charby. I'm a ''vampire''. I've ''lived in Kellwood for over 300 years''. I survived getting ''stabbed clean through the chest'' with a sword! I pulled it out and cut the ''other guy's'' head off! Whatever is after you it's ''no challenge'' for me and Menulis.
* BadassFamily: The Marlowes, who have been fighting the supernatural and magical evil cults for generations. It unfortunately skipped a generation with Victor’s father.
* BadassLongcoat: Victor, and his boss Blaine. Charby also has a dark long coat, his has the bottom edge torn into pointed strips.
* BarbarianLonghair: K’ale, whose people seem to have kept their hair a bit neater and shorter than he prefers to keep his before they were almost completely wiped out.
* BasementDweller: As the cabin is built over and impressive complex of caves which consist of the basement several characters have their rooms there including Tony, Hex, Crispo and Fay. Hex spends almost all of his time in the Byss Laboratory in the basement.
* BatOutOfHell: One of the forms Charby uses on multiple occasions is that of an albino bat.
* BattleInTheCenterOfTheMind: Tony ends up entering a friend's mind to battle the one possessing them.
* BazaarOfTheBizarre: The demon market in Kellwood Forest.
* BearsAreBadNews: Munchie, who regularly eats other monsters and humans alike. Quixoto used to feed his leftovers to one until that didn’t work out with Charby.
* BeautifulAllAlong: Subverted, Charby removes a girl's glasses to use this to shame some bullies, they feel sorry for her instead.
* BefriendingTheEnemy: Victor ends up with a vampire as his best friend.
* BerserkButton: Charby doesn’t care for pirates or the epithet Little Devil.
* BigEater: Menulis has an insatiable appetite caused by constantly being wolfed out, he can and has eaten a meal intended for all the cabin’s occupants. When there were ''fifteen'' of them. Mannick and Yiska earned their places in the cabin by feeding him.
* BigFriendlyDog: Remote Beast, who is made out of several dogs.
* BigGuyRodeo: Charby hops on the backs of larger opponents during fights on several occasions, like with the monster from the pit that made its way into the cabin.
* BigScrewedUpFamily: The Benson siblings, who will cheerfully try and murder someone for breaking the heart of their equally murderous littlest sister.
* BilingualBonus: For Geman speakers occasionally with Tony and sometimes for Spanish speakers with Zeno.
* BindleStick: When Charby escaped from Captain Blackheart's ship he packed his belongings in a knapsack tied to a stick.
* BirthdayEpisode: Mye guesses at the right time of year for Charby’s birthday as he does not remember when it is and throws him a surprise party.
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Kimberly Marlowe has gone to great lengths to have herself and her family seen as “normal” while abusing one of her sons and giving preferential treatment to the other.
* BlackAndGrayMorality: The cabin contains a couple of mass murderers and several characters who are generally ok with this even if they don’t like killing or only kill under certain circumstances. This gets muddied at the comic progresses with the addition of new characters and character growth for the old.
* BlackComedy: Many deaths and maimings are played for laughs, especially those inflicted by Hex in the old archives.
* BlandNameProduct: Polar Bar, [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/772 Big Suk]] soda and [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/817 Spork spam.]]
* BlatantLies: Darryn’s ex Torie when trying to get [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/958 Daray to drop his guard.]]
* BlindMistake: Victor’s grandmother unknowingly drives into oncoming traffic.
* BloodLust: Vampires are slave to their desire for blood if they aren't full already and smell some, Elites in particular are wont to loose their minds and transform into gigantic beasts to hunt down every human in the vicinity if they are hungry and exposed to blood.
* BlueBlood: While Samrick is the Demon King of Kellwood he had to split his conquests into the Grand Kingdoms and the Alliance in order to manage it all meaning that the fairy, elf, goblin and other royalty is not only still around but still ruling. There are also those who do not bow to Samrick like King Rodericke.
* BodyMotifs: Eyes are a recurring motif,
** Charby [[EyeScream stabbing Captain Blackheart's eyes]]
** "Devil Eyes" Quixoto
** Tony keeping his eyes transformed at all times in remembrance of a friend.
** [[spoiler: John]] being first seen as a close up on his glowing eyes, showing his opponents as reflections in his glasses.
** Victor’s werewolf damaged left eye.
** Sadick’s missing right eye.
** Kavonn’s torn lower lids.
** Mannick’s mismatched red and blue eyes
** Princess Ervaine’s tattoo above and below her right eye.
** [=LaBelle=]’s [[spoiler: torn lower lids]].
** The claps on the cloaks Rodericke and his followers wear look like red eyes.
** '' "No one seems to notice our freakish dead eyes one way or another!" '' --Mye
** The focus on Dr. Hayter's glasses.
** Zeno’s eyes [[EyeColorChange turn red]] when he’s possessed by the wraith.
* BrainlessBeauty: Hydrangea Benson who is easily distracted with the same “Look behind you trick” repeatedly.
* BreakTheCutie: Zeno had this happen to him before the story even started.
* BreakingAndBloodsucking: Charby did this at least once in the old archives, even though those in the house took measures to protect themselves from vampires.
* BullyHunter: Charby and Hex sort of think of themselves as this when in reality they both are bullies and murderers (Charby only towards humans, Hex towards anyone that isn't his sister). However Hex is well aware he is the "evil twin" and does not care and Charby starts to change for the better after befriending Victor.
* CameBackWrong:
** [[spoiler: Victoria]] has a significant personality change for the worse when she returns as a vampire.
** It is implied that [[spoiler: Zeno]]’s resurrection was left incomplete when the Orrotta that raised him were killed.
* CardCarryingVillain: “Devil Eyes” Quixoto, the skirt chasing, child hunting, telepathic ancient vampire with eerie glowing eyes.
* CarryingACake: Zeno has [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/882 trouble]] with a cake for Mye after spending his morning baking it.
* CassandraTruth: Victor’s parents did not believe him about the supernatural things attacking him and thought he was lying and [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/112 acting out as a child.]]
* CatchPhrase: "I like chicken". Quite matter-of-factly indeed.
* CentralTheme: Family is one, most of the main character have terrible or dead birth families but find new ones in each other.
* TheChessmaster: There is a reason Samrick rules over a grand alliance and multiple kingdoms in Kellwood.
* ChildrenAreInnocent: K’ale’s little brother Bojo plays this straight as do flashbacks to Charby’s time as a human where his victim-hood is played up. The little welf children in Leonard's pack are also large eyed innocent kids. Human children in Kellwood [[HarmfulToMinors die all the time]] due to unawareness of the supernatural and often show rather out of control sides in a subversion of the trope, possibly because children in Kellwood seem to be very rarely supervised if at all.
* TheChosenOne: The [[ExcaliburInTheStone demon scythe can only be drawn out of the rock it’s stuck in]] by the Scotodino’s chosen one. The elites are trying to recruit their own to a cause.
* CockFight: A downplayed one between Blaine and Victor when they are vying for Victoria’s hand. [[spoiler: It ends up leading to her death]].
* ColdIron: Tony and other alps have a weakness to it.
* ComeOutComeOutWhereverYouAre: Avonlea when fighting Jozk.
* ComesGreatInsanity: Charby and Zerlocke both have a great deal of trouble controlling themselves while using the magic weapons they acquire.
* CompellingVoice: Vampires can use this to placate prey, or convince people to let them get away with things.
* ConvenientCranny: Menu escapes from the much larger werewolf that turned him by fleeing into a small abandoned mine shaft it can't fit in.
* CoolShades: Hex has a pair of sunglasses with round red lenses that he wears when he goes out during the day.
* CostumePorn: During the party at Samrick’s castle everyone wore very nice clothes.
* CrashingDreams: Tony is licked by Remote Beast while asleep and it is incorporated his dream.
** Thunder while Charby is dreaming brings in some ambiance.
* CrazyJealousGuy: Zeno’s insecurities turn him into this.
* CreatureHunterOrganization: Blaine is running one out of Kellwood City funded by the city after he frightened the mayor with evidence the supernatural predators in Kellwood are real.
* CruelAndUnusualDeath: Mauled to death by shopping carts among others courtesy of Hexavier.
* CrypticBackgroundReference: The author has written up a detailed history of the Kingdoms of Kellwood for herself as reference some of which is referenced in the comic, it’s just none of the main characters care much.
* CultureClash: The cabin contains people from many walks of life including one resident that had never seen a microwave before and on a more serious note a resident that had never met anyone that could be harmed by fire prior to moving in which led to some painful misunderstandings.
* CulturalPosturing: The eleven kingdom of Eldenlon considers itself to be much more civilized than the other kingdoms in the forest.
%%* CuteWitch: Mye, natch.
* DamselInDistress: Mye has this happen a lot, at least once being abducted three times in one night. She was not pleased. Since she’s got her wand back now this is going to be harder for future individuals to accomplish as her magic was extremely limited without it.
* DarkAndTroubledPast: Most cast members whose pasts we know anything about.
** Particularly notable in [[TheWoobie Zeno’s]] case, [[BornUnlucky who was shamed and]] [[ParentalAbandonment abandoned by his parents]], [[TheyWouldCutYouUp picked]] [[PlayingWithSyringes up]] [[HumansAreBastards by]] [[MadScientist mad scientists]], after his escape from [[MadScientistLaboratory their lab]] [[HappilyAdopted he was taken in healed and adopted by]] [[UnreliableNarrator elves]] [[HopeSpot only for his new family to be]] [[YankTheDogsChain killed by monsters]] [[WeirdnessMagnet as his crying now attracts them]] [[DeusAngstMachina before the story]] [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/71 even began.]]
* DarkIsNotEvil: Blaine, one of the most heroic characters in the story, wears a long black coat and is always armed. Charby, when he stops killing humans for sport and then stops killing them altogether, still wears his black cape or a dark coat when he goes out.
* DaywalkingVampire: The elites.
* DecadentCourt: The fairy courts. The Vampire court is this as well for all that they remain hidden and plotting in caves (at least during the day).
* DeadlyGaze: An alp’s evil eye is the only power they are known to keep even without their [[MagicHat tarnkappe]].
* DeadpanSnarker: Charby, Tony, Hex, Glen and Kavonn in spades, and Victor grows into one.
* DeathByIrony: Nameless one-shot humans have this happen to them quite frequently near the start of the comic.
* DeathByOriginStory: Zeno’s adoptive family, Blaine’s parents, Charby’s first [[HorrorHunger girlfriend along with her entire town]], and Tony’s alp friend Olaf.
** Daray’s brother Darryn as well.
* DeathGlare: Several characters have done this, Rosemary Petrucci has had some notable [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/853 ones]].
* DeathOfAChild: Children die at an alarming rate in Kellwood and on the edges of the forest which houses at least one powerful telepathic vampire that prefers human children as prey and a giant floating demon that looks like an oversized blue teddy bear when sitting that has eaten or vaporized at least 8 kids and likes to hang out by the park.
* DefeatByModesty: "Looks like you came out on top after all!" -Adria
** More like "attempted defeat by modesty", as Mye is unwilling to get killed just to preserve her decency.
* DefiantToTheEnd: Jozk, who is incredibly offended by Avonlea’s offer for him to join her.
* DemonicPossession: Zeno has been possessed. Alps like Tony and Yiska have the ability to possess others and look through their memories.
* DeusAngstMachina: Charby recounts the tale of his first girlfriend and the events that lead to him devouring her and her entire village by accident, to a lovelorn Zeno.
* DidNotGetTheGirl: Charby and Victor were both turned down by Victoria, who has no interest in dating and sees Charby as nothing more than a murderous undead 'child' that needs to be killed.
* DisguisedInDrag: K’ale in order to sneak into a party at the Demon King’s palace.
* DismantledMacGuffin: The snathe and scythe of the Demon Scythe were separated before the start of the story.
* DisproportionateRetribution: Hexavier tends to deal out [[CruelAndUnusualDeath cruel and unusual deaths]] to those who make [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/archive/487 him mad, or irritated.]] Charby is fond of this towards humans, murdering even children for annoying him though he starts to behave differently after befriending Victor.
* DistinctionWithoutADifference: Kavonn does this when discussing what Mannick is with Daray.
* DistractedByTheSexy: K’ale refuses to be when a fairy princess tries to propose casual sex to pass the time. He is understandably already very upset with her even before she does so.
* DistressedDude: Zeno has a recurring issue of being possessed and starts out as pretty powerless while also attracting monsters that want to eat him.
** [[spoiler: K’ale]] ends up enslaved.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: When Mye makes sausages for Tony over a misunderstanding Yiska takes advantage of.
* TheDogBitesBack: After awakening as a vampire, Charby killed the pirate crew who'd abused him and treated him as a slave for all his eight years of life.
* DoubleEntendre: Yiska is amused by them, and likes to point them out even when she made them up “Sounds a little Freudian, dont'cha think?”
* TheDreaded: Several:
** Kavonn becomes such for [=LaBelle=], Sadick and K’ale after [=LaBelle=] steals his staff and he tracks them down.
** Charby for the surviving ninjas operating in Kellwood
* DreamLand: Tony notes that the [[MentalWorld mental landscape]] is different if a person is awake or asleep.
* DreamWalker: Alps like Tony and Yiska have this ability.
* DressedToPlunder: The pirates in the prologue.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: K'ale and Zeno have been mistaken for girls
* DumbMuscle: The hunter Mort, especially when paired with his cousin Glen with whom he does nearly everything.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: E -- H]]
* EarlyBirdCameo: Yiska was at the party in King Samrick’s castle and can be spotted in the background.
* EarlyInstallmentCharacterDesignDifference: Charby's horned hairdo didn't show up consistently until later on in the comic, though the few pages in which he didn't have it are part of [=ReVamped=] and have been redrawn.
* EasilyForgiven: After Zeno kills [[spoiler: Mye they don’t break up instead having a teary reunion when she’s brought back and]] surprisingly Hex doesn’t kill him.
* EatingTheEyeCandy: When Mye and Yiska disguise themselves as human adults to go a coffee shop in Kellwood they enjoy the men that happen to pass by the outdoor table they’re sitting at.
* ElaborateUndergroundBase: The Vampire Court operates out of a series of caves and tunnels, King Samrick’s castle is carved into the side of a mountain and the cabin’s basement is surprisingly large an comprised of a network of tunnels and rooms.
* EnchantedForest: Kellwood Forest is home to all sorts of magical creatures, a large number of whom eat humans. It is also much bigger than it looks on human maps or when flown over in a plane and contains kingdoms of demons, dragons, goblins and TheFairFolk.
* EnemyMine: Charby and Victor start out their friendship this way
* EnsembleCast: As mentioned in the description paragraph.
* EvilCounterpart: The Wraith initially appears to be an evil future Zeno, but the truth is far more complicated.
* EvilSorcerer: The Bear Witch, who raised and enslaved Mye and Hex.
* EyeColorChange: A sign of possession, but not all possessions as some leave less obvious outward changes besides personality and other behavioral ones. [[spoiler: Charby and Zerlocke]] both have their eyes change color when they use their magical weapons
* EyeScream: Charby takes out Captain Blackheart's eyes with his hooks.
** Sadick accidentally lodges a toothpick in the eye of someone who startled him at a bar.
** What happened to Victor's eye is implied to have been quite painful before being confirmed and shown in the spin-off comic ''Here There be Monsters''.
** Evidently the lower lid tears Kavonn sports are something of a [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/842 habit of his hat.]]
** Sadick is shown in a flashback shortly after the loss of his eye that led to his current use of an EyepatchOfPower.
* FacePalmOfDoom: How Victor lost the vision in his left eye.
* FacialMarkings: The Scotodino have black markings on their faces, with those on women usually being more elaborate.
* TheFairFolk: Kellwood hosts two fairy courts, the Unseelie and the Seelie. It is best to avoid them.
* FakeBand: There a are few including Idol Hanz and Death Conundrum. Charby likes Death Conundrum and wears a shirt with the band name and logo on it.
* {{Familiar}}: Yiska has three, their skulls adorn her [[MagicHat tarnkappe]] and maintain a glamor to make sure the hat's color matches her outfit.
* FamilyOfChoice: How Zeno sees Charby, Menu and Tony. [=LaBelle=]’s pack works like this too.
* FantasticRacism: The onekamari hate and hunt dragons for being uncivilized even though they are still operating like it’s the middle ages and dragons have electricity and modern amenities, they're not the only ones.
* FantasticSlurs: “Rat elves” for the Skzzldrix. “Monkey Boy” seems popular for K’ale, but as his people are largely unknown and now almost extinct it’s more likely a unique term he gets out of people by annoying them.
* FantasyKitchenSink: Alps, witches, necromancers, dragons, elves, a dangerous magical forest that’s bigger on the inside, [[LittleBitBeastly lemuros]], merfolk, bunny demons, evil cults, trolls, jackalopes, manticores, refugees from another dimension, [[OurElvesAreDifferent welves]], fairies, banshees, harpies, a voracious floating blue teddybear with tentacles and laser eyes, [[RidiculouslyCuteCritter vaeltwii]], goblins, changelings, mix-and-match critters, [[AmbiguouslyHuman ambiguously human]] monster hunters, and multiple flavors of vampires, werewolves and zombies.
* FascinatingEyebrow: Victor when realizing [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/787 whose fault it was that he was called into work hours early.]] Charby when questioning Yiska's [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/924 concern.]] King Samrick does [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/1051 this]] when revealing he knows who Sadick is.
* FaunsAndSatyrs: One of those gathered around the man spouting anti-dragon propaganda in the demon market is a [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/986 horned satyr.]]
* FearOfThunder: Daray’s manticore knocks him off and runs to hide in some bushes upon hearing thunder to Kavonn’s amusement.
* FeudingFamilies: Victor’s parents are from families that have been fighting for at least a century. They were both locked out of the loop about this and remain unaware.
* FlashbackNightmare: Zeno has some terrifying ones.
* FlippingTheBird: Charby flips of the council, and Lady Emma in particular, with both hands as he teleports out of their meeting and takes Zeno with him.
* FormallyNamedPet: Mr. Noodle, the vampire dachshund.
* FourLinesAllWaiting: As the story is following the residents of the cabin, each of whom have their own motivations and often have storylines mostly separate from the others, as well as the human Monster hunters in Kellwood, and at least three other characters who are traversing King Samrick’s vast kingdom it can be a while sometimes between seeing some of the characters as the tale shifts to follow a different one or group for a time.
* FreudianSlip: Nikodemus slips when his crush walks by in a low cut red dress, “It's apparent that asking Samrick for the use of his castle was not... in our breast interest.”
* FrustratedOverheadScribble: Tony's got an angry squiggle emanating from his head [[https://www.theduckwebcomics.com/CTV_ReVamped/5526181/ after Menu eats his snacks.]]
* FullBoarAction: The Orycalopes keep Leporids which are very large and fast bloodthirsty boar like monsters with long sharp claws.
* FunetikAksent: Tony speaks with a very obvious accent that's a combination of Germanic and Brooklyn street toughie accents.
* FunnyBackgroundEvent: Daray and Kavonn’s visit to the demon market before their journey coincides with Erivane and [[spoiler: K’ale]]’s visit to buy him more appropriate clothes. While Daray is looking for Kavonn [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/985 Ilex can be seen scolding a beaten fairy that got too close to the princess.]]
* GenocideBackfire: [[VampireMonarch King Rodericke]] has the lemuros hunted to collect their magic pelts and by the time he realizes the magic works better with a live lemuro attached to perform it there are only three left.
* GirlishPigtails: The Pettrucci twins often keep their hair in twintails highlighting their status as undead children. Gabby had her hair in twin tails the night Charby murdered her as an unsupervised fearless mouthy little girl of about seven.
* GirlsHaveCooties: "Eek, you have girl hair!"
* GoodAngelBadAngel: An Alp's good angel isn't that good.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: At least two Anh Keth characters have [[OffWithHisHead lost]] [[YourHeadASplode their]] [[ChunkySalsaRule heads]].
* GrannyClassic: Annebelle Marlowe to her own grandsons, the hunter organization and Charby.
* GratuitousGerman: Tony, especially when drunk.
* GratuitousSpanish: Zeno, especially when [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/110 upset.]]
* GreatOffscreenWar: Samrick conquered the Demon Kingdom and most of the other kingdoms of Kellwood forest before the start of the story, the how of which has been left unaddressed but. His predecessor yet lives and is known to have made an attempt to reclaim his former kingdom.
* GrievousHarmWithABody: Well, now he's unarmed!
* GrotesqueCute: Mye, though a zombie, is technically "alive" but still enjoys eating people if it's offered... Mannick likely qualifies with the portal full of arms and teeth on his belly, which he pulls his hats out of.
* HalfIdenticalTwins: While it is not readily event due to the bizarre impractical way Hex prefers to keep his hair he and Mye look startlingly alike when he puts on a wig with her haircut.
* HappilyMarried: Maro and Rita.
* HateSink: Kimberly Marlowe, terrible mother and gossipy control freak.
* TheHatMakesTheMan: Mannick can pull {{Animal Eared Headband}}s from his stomach portal to communicate with animals and when he borrows another character's hat he starts talking like them, [[spoiler: can read their minds, possibly use their powers, and permanently gains aspects of their personalities]].
* HealingFactor: As a vampire Charby has one. Menu has one as well though it works differently.
* HealingPotion: Mye and Hex make these.
* HeelRealization: Daray after Kavonn teaches him to question his village’s [[FantasticRacism fantastic racism]] of dragons.
* TheHighKing: Samrick is this to many of the other kingdoms in Kellwood.
* HooksAndCrooks: Charby’s preferred weapons are two hooks.
* HopeSpot: Jozk [[spoiler: gets away from Avonlea, but is eventually shown to be fatally wounded. When the Rose sisters happen across him he is able to request that they complete his mission but when he tries to have them get his soul gem out of Avonlea’s reach he ends up immobilized as they walk away and Avonlea gleefully prepares to hunt him down again]].
* HorrorHunger: Charby has eaten [[WarmBloodbagsAreEverywhere some people]] he didn't want to after losing himself to hunger. Menu has had trouble with this during the full moon.
* HorseOfADifferentColor: [[MixAndMatchCritters Horse-bears]] and manticores.
* HowDoIShotWeb: At least they have nearly forever to figure things out.
** It took Charby a few centuries before he accidentally discovered that he was not vulnerable to sunlight.
** Well, a ''good'' vampire should never discover it, as it has tones of GoodThingYouCanHeal.
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: John Marlowe, possibly the tallest human in the series, is married to one of the shortest adult humans in the comic. Mermaids have this to an extreme degree as part of their dimorphism.
* HumansAreWhite: Outside of one grocer with a caramel skin tone seen in a single comic strip the humans seen in this comic are white. One of the hunters has slightly darker skin than most other humans but one of his eyes is blue and his heritage has not been addressed so if he’s not of entirely european ancestry he is at least white passing.
** Two people in the background of [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/999 this page]] are POC, there is a young MOC in Blaine's backstory, another singing for a Polar Bar, among a few others in backgrounds; not fabulous representation but since more than half of humans that show up in the comic are killed, maimed or otherwise injured, the author erred on the side of caution perhaps a bit too much. Vamp-hunter Lucia from HTBM is Mexican-American, Marcus and Wes (the hunter in question,[[MeaningfulName Weston Easton]] is a deliberate pun/hint) are of mixed heritage.
* HunterOfMonsters: While Victor, Blaine and the others are referred to as vampire hunters their prey is far more varied.
* HypnoticEyes: Some vampires have this ability, Charby has discovered it doesn't work on those with poor eyesight.
[[/folder]]

[[folder:I -- L]]
* IgnorantAboutFire: The fire sprite that ends up living at the cabin with the main characters had never met anyone who could actually be hurt by being set on fire before arriving there so he thinks Menulis is overreacting when he sets him on fire.
* IHateYouVampireDad: The feeling is mutual, vampire son!
* IHaveNoSon: Zeno’s parents treated him this way even before abandoning him in the woods. Victor’s mom certainly felt this way when she kicked him out, and Daray’s dad [[spoiler:has issued a kill on sight bounty on him]].
* IJustWantToHaveFriends: Zeno when we first meet him.
* ILoveYouVampireSon: It is common for vampires in the setting to have a compulsion towards sire attachment even if they detested their sire before being turned. It often shows itself as a romantic attraction regardless of the sexuality of the new vampire and is rarely reciprocated. The strength of this attachment varies and in some cases never manifests at all, Charby for instance hates his sire to the surprise of the Vampire Council.
* ILetGwenStacyDie: Blaine and Victor both feel crushing regret after they part ways with [[spoiler: Victoria]] in the forest and she is killed shortly thereafter.
* ImAHumanitarian: Charby drinks human blood, Menu has eaten humans by accident during the full moon and surprisingly [[spoiler: Mye]] enjoys human flesh as well so long as it is adequately prepared.
* ImDyingPleaseTakeMyMacGuffin: [[spoiler:Jozk]] does this.
* ImplacableMan: The Elites are functionally immortal and several of them get back up and continue attacking in situations where their victims had given them grievous injuries since they regenerate very quickly. The only way to slow them down is to destroy their hearts and even that does not last terribly long.
* ImprovisedZipline: In the prologue Charby escapes from Captain Black’s ship using a rope by slinging his BindleStick over it and sliding down.
* INeedAFreakingDrink: How Sadick reacts after encounters that make him fear for his life or feel helpless.
%%* InsecureLoveInterest: Mye has a number of these, Zeno and Tony stand out.
* InterspeciesRomance: At least three characters are of elvish and dragon heritage.
* {{Invisibility}}: Tony and other alps can pull this off if they've got their [[MagicHat Tarnkappe]].
%%* ItsALongStory
* IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy: Tony for Mye, though he keeps having to remind himself.
* IWillPunishYourFriendForYourFailure: The Master would hurt Mye to punish Hex’s failures.
* JarOfTheBizarre: Mye's shelf of potion ingredients includes jars with a glowing liquid inside and another one full of eyeballs.
%%* JourneyToTheCenterOfTheMind: Alps can do this, Tony has used it to help out friends a couple of times.
* KarmicTransformation: Kavonn’s fond of using [[GenderBender these]] as [[PunishedWithUgly punishment]].
* KillItWithWater: A vampire is tricked into drinking holy water to melt him from the inside.
* KillOnSight: Daray's parents issue a kill on sight bounty on him after he proves a disappointment by not murdering any dragons, which is considered a traditional coming of age right in their village, being mistaken for trans by his homophobic father after a magical mishap temporarily enlarges his chest, for which they disown him, and setting their house on fire as a birthday present to himself.
* KillSteal: Much to Charby’s annoyance Menu [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/58 does this obliviously.]]
* KindRestraints: Charby sticks menu in wristcuffs attached to the wall in one of the basement rooms during the first full moon Charby spends at the cabin.
* KingIncognito: Samrick doesn't mind being unrecognizable to most of his subjects so he can pull this off.
* TheKlutz: Poor [[TheWoobie Zeno]], who spills chocolate milk all over shortly after arriving at the cabin and freaks out overreacting to the mess he made, and then flies up and nearly knocks himself out hitting his head on the ceiling in the same night.
* KnightInSourArmor: Sadick is trying to be a self styled hero for the people but he’s still perpetually grumpy and continuously annoyed by his companions’ antics.
* LargeHam: Oleander Benson is incredibly dramatic in his attempts to punish Kavonn for breaking his power hungry little sister’s heart.
* LargeRunt: Daray’s manticore is the runt of the litter but still much larger than most other mounts for sale in the Demon Market’s stalls including the blue ursequinee Kavonn ends up with.
* LivingHat: Kavonn's hat is a sentient entity that is the source of his power and can communicate with him. She prevented him from growing any taller than he was when he first acquired her and provides him his outfits while trying in vain to also control his haircut.
* LivingMacGuffin: [[spoiler: The Orb of Winter]] has been turned into one.
* LivingShadow: Zeno’s shadow starts behaving differently than him when he is possessed by [[spoiler: the Master]].
%%* LonerTurnedFriend: Sadick for [=LaBelle=] and K’ale.
* LostTheTVRemote: Hex and Zeno build Remote Beast rather than look for it, Tony has found it before they're done.
* LoveAtFirstSight: Mye is [[spoiler: enchanted by the Master]] to cause this and she ends up with a large array of admirers due to it, it is deconstructed though as most of them are in love with what they imagine she should be instead of who she really is.
* LoveMakesYouCrazy: Zerlocke, he even has a dedicated [[RoomFullofCrazy room]].
* LovePotion: Mye makes several when trying for Victor’s attention.
* LovingAShadow: Zerlocke thinks Mye is the love of his (un)life. He also believes her true form to be a tall redheaded bombshell bunny demon despite all evidence to the contrary and has little understanding of her personality.
[[/folder]]

[[folder: M -- P]]
* MadLove: Zerlocke is prone to this, his incredibly abusive relationship with his sire taking the cake.
* MadScientist: Mannick and Zeno had run ins with some in their backstories.
* MadScientistLaboratory: The cabin has one in the basement.
* ManIFeelLikeAWoman: Don't mouth off to the cranky warlock who wants discuss dating troubles.
* MeaningfulName: Menu the werewolf who is constantly hungry, and is shortened from Menulis the moon god which is why Charby [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/45 suggested it for his name.]] There’s also Hexavier is a magic user who goes by Hex, Crispo the dragon, [[MonsterMunch Munchie]] and Biscuits.
* MentalWorld: Alps can enter them, Kavonn likes to make his more [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/780 literal than it needs to be.]]
* MercyLead: Quixote encouraged Charby to try and escape from him but it was only to make the kill more exciting for him and he didn’t let Charby get very far.
* MindOverMatter: Charby has very limited telekinesis.
* MindRape: Quixote is fond of messing around in his victim’s memories before killing them.
* MineralMacGuffin: The Orb of Winter which disgraced elven prince [[spoiler:Sadick]] has been sent to recover.
* MissingMom: Both of Menu’s parents are missing as he was told he had been found as an infant left in the garbage. Charby’s mother is unknown and though Captain Black considered him a son it is unknown if he was his father biologically or if he just found him while pillaging and decided to keep him.
* MissionCreep: Sadick’s journey to find his runaway little sister and return her and Meerse back home led to him accompanying K’ale to help K’ale find ''his'' little brother, acquiring K’ale, Bojo and [=LaBelle=] as companions in traversing King Samrick’s lands in search of his sister and [[spoiler: entering King Samrick’s employ]] to irritate his father and pursue justice.
* MistakenIdentity: Blaine mistakes Mye for the alp that possessed him, stole a magical item from him and saved his life when in reality that was [[spoiler: Tony]] after she implies they met before while she was in a different form since he notices she has said magical item:
-->''"Don't be a gossip hound, Yiska! He just saved my life once, and I want to get out of here before he remembers I was a bunny demon at the time!"''
* MonochromaticEyes: a LOT of the characters, in fact. It's pretty much the default form though the characters can shift to normal eyes when taking human forms.
* MonsterMash: By design, naturally.
* MonsterMunch: Most of the human characters met by Charby early on, and almost everyone that runs into [[BearsAreBadNews Munchie]]. Subverted at least twice with characters unexpectedly coming back as vampires.
* MonsterSlayerRomance: Played with. The hunter George was dating a human girl who was changed into a vampire by vamps seeking revenge against him, and she retained enough of her personality that they continued dating. Victor was courting a fellow hunter who was changed and who pretended to be into him in order to get close enough to try and kill him. At Samrick's party one of the members of the Vampire council is noticeably interested in Victor and flirts with him, but the chaos that soon unfolds prevents them from interacting again.
* MoralityKitchenSink: Without even leaving the cabin you’ve got: Hex a casual murderer who will do anything to protect his sister; Charby who does not put a high value on human life but will go out of his way to help and protect other sentient monsters he barely knows; Tony whose happy to pull pranks or riffle through memories and is pretty nonchalant about the others killing folks as long as they’re hunters but mostly opposes murder; Zeno who is quick to try and help others but sometimes looses his mind to rage; Mye who likes to help and heal others even at her own expense unless they’ve been rude to her in which case she’ll stand by and let them die at her feet when she could easily prevent it; Daray a regretful former dragon hunter trying to redeem himself and change his ways; Kavonn a powerful warlock that usually prefers non-lethal ways of dealing with annoyances including transforming them into animals and [[spoiler: is spying on the other residents of the cabin for King Samrick]]; Mikko who tries to be Menu’s conscience but mostly just hides from everyone; the power hungry Azelea who is willing to manipulate, lie and murder to get what she wants and thinks she and Zeno are destined to be together; Fay, a runaway child who is noticeably spoiled and does not seem to understand just how much older most of the other cabin residents are; Phineas who is a hormone addled teenager and notorious sneak [[spoiler: who is helping Kavonn spy on the other residents]]; and Crispo a chill half-dragon that tries to avoid conflict who left home after learning his parents had been lying to him about his parentage for his entire life. Basically everyone has different motivations and levels at which they’ll react to things and seeing as there are over 90 such characters it would be difficult to list them all.
* MoralityPet: Mye is a not terribly effective one for her brother, the self professed “evil twin”. After Charby grows fond of Victor and befriends him he starts treating humans better as a whole and Victor eventually gets him to promise to stop killing them altogether.
* MorallyAmbiguousDoctorate: Dr. Hayter and the [[ReligionOfEvil Ixzerite]] doctor at the Walnut Grove Health Center Victor's mom took him to see.
* MurderByMistake: When a furious Zeno tries to kill Zerlocke [[spoiler: Mye]] jumps in the way trying to stop him and ends up killed instead, luckily there’s a necromancer living at the cabin who is able to fix that.
* NaiveNewcomer: Daray had no idea what a TV or microwave was.
* NamedAfterSomebodyFamous: The Marlowe family name is the same as that of playwright [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Marlowe Christopher “Kit” Marlowe.]]
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Devil-Eyes Quixoto, the Bear Witch.
* {{Necromancer}}: Hexavier is a zombie necromancer.
* NeverLearnedToRead: Charby uses food as a motivator to teach Menu how to read after he [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/56 mistakes rat poison for candy.]]
* NeverMessWithGranny: Annebelle Marlowe won’t put up with her grandsons misbehaving, though Victor at least would never fight her he can’t escape her wrath either.
* NeverSayThatAgain: Do not call Charby “Little Devil”
* NewFirstComics: First there was the addition of a prologue and eventually the artist began redrawing the old archive as Revamped to maintain better style consistency and add more plot, the old archive is still on the site.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: When Menu interrupted a Byss Laborites experiment in the cabin it is very heavily implied, with screaming over the radio, there were terrible consequences for the other Byss Labs in the relay.
* NightmareSequence: Courtesy of Zeno’s fractured mind.
* {{Ninja}}: Kellwood ninja Daryl Hu has a mentally scaring run in with Charby, and flips out when he comes across Charby as a civilian though Charby doesn't recognize him without his mask on.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: Vampirate!
* NobleFugitive: Elven princess [[spoiler:Fay]] is being chased after stealing a powerful magical artifact and fleeing the kingdom.
* NoGoodDeedGoesUnpunished: Said word for word by Kavonn.
* NoKillLikeOverkill: When a vampire tries to attack a tourist in front of Victor when he’s unarmed and already pissed he beats and stomps his head into a pulp instead. Chary finds it to be quality entertainment.
* NoRespectGuy: Victor is generally treated as a non-threat and is teased by characters like Tony that are generally terrified of hunters to his annoyance.
* NoSocialSkills: Zeno hasn't had much chance to develop these though he wants to desperately.
* TheNoseKnows: Menu can smell potential food really well, and also some things he’d rather not get a good whiff of.
* NotSoOmniscientCouncilOfBickering: The vampire council, despite having placed people near Charby to inform them of his actions, does not understand his relationships or motivations at all which does not work out in their favor since they have decided they need him for their plans.
* OldMaster: John [[spoiler: Marlowe]] is an excellent hunter.
* OneSteveLimit: Averted. One of The Rose Sisters is named Rosemary, and so is one of Zerlocke's sisters. When they eventually meet, Rose Sister-Rosemary demanded that she other be destroyed. (She isn't.)
* OnlyTheChosenMayWield: The Demon Scythe, the Staff of Oswego and Dinora's Axe.
* OpeningNarration: Charby narrates the first page or so giving an overview of how human eating monsters view Kellwood as a buffet line while glancing over a tourist pamphlet for the city.
* OralFixation: Sadick with a toothpick.
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: Have better access to human technology than many other races in Kellwood and are hated and hunted by the Onekamari.
* OurElvesAreDifferent: The elven royal family has a prince and princess gone rouge.
* OurGodsAreDifferent: Ixzerit, whom Ash Circle worships, is some kind of tree.
* OurHomunculiAreDifferent: An Orrotta is basically a Scotodino designed homunculus.
* OurManticoresAreSpinier: They’re man-eating [[BeastWithAHumanFace beasts with a humanoid face]], red fur and a [[BewareMyStingerTail scorpion tail]], and are unusual mounts for non-humans, though Daray hasn’t had trouble with his.
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: Seem to have SexyDimorphism with fairly traditional mermaid woman and giant {{fish people}} men.
* OurVampiresAreDifferent: Several species of the bloodsuckers, the focus being on the mockingly titled "Elite" (Anh Keth), who are kinda like vampire supermen.
* OurWerewolvesAreDifferent: While all thus shown [[AlternateIdentityAmnesia lose their minds]] during the full moon, Menu is always transformed and at least one was made after being bitten by a vampire ''dachshund''.
* OurZombiesAreDifferent: The twins Mye and Hexavier are [[VoodooZombie voodoo zombies]] sans master. They have full command of their faculties, a [[IntimateHealing healing]] [[MagicKiss kiss]], telepathic touch and [[spoiler:only occasionally]] eat people as they do not crave the flesh of the living.
* PainfulTransformation: Mye says turning into Bunny feels like her body is exploding, Charby picks up one as well.
* ParentalAbandonment: Zeno’s parents left him in the woods. Menu was told he was left in the trash.
* ParentalFavoritism: Hector is definitely his mother’s favorite, worry that Victor would corrupt him was a deciding factor in Vic getting kicked out of the house.
** Daray’s father preferred his older brother Darryn.
* PastExperienceNightmare: Zeno has terrifying [[FlashbackNightmare flashback nightmares]] about his time wandering alone in the woods and being experimented on.
* PerceptionFilter: Humans living in Kellwood don’t notice that the monsters walking around town are such unless they [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/784 draw attention to it]], those in Blaine’s hunter group have had this filter broken, or were somehow immune to its effects in the first place.
* PinkElephants: A moonshiner is upset when he thinks [[BearsAreBadNews Munchie]] has replaced his usual [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/25 pink elephant.]]
* PintsizedPowerhouse: Most of the cabin inhabitants as it is overwhelmingly occupied by those who look much younger than they really are, though some characters are just short.
* {{Pirate}}: Charby was raised by a cruel pirate captain and his crew.
* PiratesVersusNinjas: Charby has decimated the local ninjas in Kellwood, though he hasn't properly been a pirate for a few hundred years he does still talk like one during fights and wears a cape reminiscent of the pirate flag he once wore.
* PlayboyBunny: "Bunny", an accidental magic mishap that befell Mye when she tried to help Menu. She turns into an attractive demon when she sneezes.
* PlayingWithSyringes: The [[MadScientist scientists]] who experimented on Zeno.
* PoliceAreUseless: Due to Kellwood's extra strength perception filter, Animal Control on the other hand is made up of monster hunters.
* PoorCommunicationKills: Jozk does this to himself '''''twice''''' when fleeing from Avonlea. First when Kavonn takes his gun after he and Daray understandably mistake Jozk for a highwayman and Jozk says nothing in his own defense. He could answer Kavonn's questions about the Scotodino which are the entire reason Kavonn and Daray are on the road and Daray has a recall portal that will take Jozk ''directly to where he is trying to get to'' but Jozk just keeps running. Second [[spoiler: when he asks the Rose Sisters to take his soul to get it out of Avonlea's grasp, and instead of saying anything like “soul gem” to clue them in, tries to show them despite knowing it’s been knocked loose.]] This works out poorly.
* PosthumousCharacter: Daray’s brother Darryn and Doctor Hayter.
* PowerFloats: Munchie, Charby and other vampires.
* PowerIncontinence: Several characters have trouble with this, some of them [[InvoluntaryShapeshifter develop it]] [[TheMindIsAPlaythingOfTheBody during]] [[TransformationHorror the]] [[PainfulTransformation story]] while others are already dealing with it when introduced.
* PrehensileHair: Kavonn. "Oh gross, he's gonna touch me with his hair!" -[=LaBelle=], about to get ensnared.
* PsychicAssistedSuicide: When a gun carrier draws on him Kavonn responds by having him hold his weapon to his own head.
* PullARabbitOutOfMyHat: Kavonn’s hat is infested with an endless supply of jackalopes.
* PunctuationShaker: K'ale
* PunishedWithUgly: Inflicted on [=LaBelle=] by Kavonn after she attacks him a ''second'' time.
* PuppyDogEyes: Menu is good at begging with these.
** Tony is [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/791 capable as well.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Q -- U]]
* RaincoatOfHorror: It was on a rainy night that Sadick lost his eye and his brother was murdered, so they were wearing rain parkas.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: About everyone in the cabin that looks like a kid but really isn't, save for Phineas who is a teen,(for his species since he's 10 years old) and Tony who is full grown for an Alp, just short like a dwarf as Alps tend to be.
** Fay is another exception, being an actual 12 year old Elf.
* RedemptionQuest: Sadick’s search for his runaway sister is one of these.
* RedRightHand: The artist, who represents the ganglion cyst in her drawing hand as a demonic possession. It gives her bad ideas.
* ReligionOfEvil: Ash Circle and the other Ixzerites.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: The [[http://charbythevampirate.wikia.com/wiki/Vaeltwii vaeltwii]], winged large-eyed gerbil looking traders that like to wear hats and scarves and that shopkeepers cater to as they’ll get a place more business if they like the shop.
* RightHandCat: Hexavier’s zombie cat Masan.
* RoaringRampageOfRescue: It’s a bad idea to kidnap Zeno’s girlfriend.
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Kidnaping Zeno’s girlfriend or getting between Charby and [[IHateYouVampireDad Quixoto]] is going to cut your life short.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: All over the place. There’s King Samrick who is irritated that the vastness of his kingdom has made it nearly impossible to rule over so he organized himself as High King to the other kingdoms. The Prince of Eldenlon is working as a [[spoiler: bounty hunter]] while he secretly seeks an important item that was stolen from his father the king. Rodericke is involved in his attempts to destabilize Samrick’s kingdom, and Princess Erivane is plotting, though to what ends it has not yet been revealed. Subverted with the dragons as their royalty has no real power in their government anymore, though the aforementioned Prince of Eldenlon has royal blood from dragon royalty as well as the elvish royal family.
* SanityHasAdvantages: Charby doesn't mess around.
* SapientFurTrade: The Lemuros have almost been wiped out due to the demand for their pelts, many of those buying the pelts are not even aware they come from a sapient human-like species since they are relatively new to Kellwood and those hunting them are through in disposing of the remains they’re not selling.
* ScarsAreForever: For the human characters anyway, several of the hunters have picked up distinctive scars on their faces.
* SealedEvilInACan: The Master/Bear Witch and the [[spoiler:zombie twins]].
* SexyDimorphism: Mermaids look like their classical depiction (beautiful women with fish tails) while men look like giant FishPeople.
* SettleForSibling: Torie lies that she’s up for this in an attempt to get Daray [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/959 to drop his guard.]]
* TheShadowKnows: Charby says he never trusts anyone who doesn’t match their shadow.
* {{Shapeshifting}}: Charby and Tony can shape shift. Alps can only do so while in contact with their [[MagicHat tarnkappe]].
* ShipperOnDeck: Mye for Yiska and [[spoiler:Hex]], she is incredibly excited by the possibility of them having a relationship.
* ShowSomeLeg: Attempted (and failed) [[http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/Charby_the_Vampirate/4821783/ here]]
* SoulJar: The Orrotta have soul gems.
* SpellMyNameWithAThe: The Master/The Bear Witch
* SpiderPeople: [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/895 Lemrya]] and [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/archive/680 Lezzaria]] both have a different configuration than most.
* StakingTheLovedOne: Victor does this when one of the Quixoto turns one of the hunters.
* StrangeSyntaxSpeaker: Tony can be incredibly hard to understand for other characters thanks to a combination of this and his bizarre accent.
* StrongerThanTheyLook: Most of the cabin inhabitants by virtue of being [[OurZombiesAreDifferent monsters]] [[CuteWitch that]] [[OurDemonsAreDifferent look]] [[OurVampiresAreDifferent like]] [[Really700YearsOld children]], or [[OurWerewolvesAreDifferent puppies]].
* StrongerWithAge: Ancient vampires are stronger than their normal brethren, and Quixoto in particular has become a very [[MindManipulation powerful]] [[MindRape telepath]].
* SuperPoweredEvilSide: [[spoiler:Charby]] if he activates his power amplifying weapon in the wrong mindset.
* SurvivalMantra: Mannick chants [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/874 Happy]] [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/1086 thoughts]] when upset.
* SymbolSwearing: Everyone does this, save Lezzaria who never swears, before the comic developed it's signature blacking out overlaid by {{unusual euphemism}}s or GoshDangItToHeck for swearing.
* TactfulTranslation: When Mye asks Yiska to translate Tony’s drunken German love confession Yiska claims Tony was talking about food.
* TailorMadePrison: Alps can easily have trouble exiting a building as they can only leave the same way they entered.
* TalkingInYourDreams: Alps can do this, Charby has asked Tony to find out how people really feel using it.
* TalkLikeAPirate: Charby slips into this when upset.
* TallDarkAndSnarky: Victor Marlowe grows up into an exceedingly tall snarky hunter with dark hair.
* TapOnTheHead: Charby and Menu both knock out Zeno on separate occasions when the later is having a freak out or not behaving at all like himself.
* {{Telepathy}}: Alps can do this, normally using it to enter and alter dreams. Vampires have a very weak telepathic ability, except Quixoto who is the strongest telepath in the series. Mye and Hex wear gloves because of their tactile post cognition and have weak [[TwinTelepathy twin telepathy]].
* {{Teleportation}}: The [[OurVampiresAreDifferent Elites]] have this ability, Charby is the only one able to bring someone along.
%%* TheManIsStickingItToTheMan: Hector lives and breathes this trope.
* ThirdLineSomeWaiting: Considering the hugeness of the cast, most of the plot threads (especially those which only relate to a single character) progress at a snail's pace.
* ThirdPersonPerson: Mannick refers to himself in the third person.
* ThoseTwoGuys: Hunter cousins Glen and Mort.
* TitleDrop: Yiska when looking for a nickname for Charby [[http://www.charbythevampirate.com/comic/817 that doesn't set him off.]]
* TookALevelInBadass: Victor starts out the comic as a preteen and grows into one of the most competent hunters in Kellwood. Charby started to figure out how to teleport without using up his strength and then received a [[spoiler: magic weapon. Zeno]] started to get incredible power-ups and finally started to grow a spine.
* TownWithADarkSecret: Subverted with the human city of Kellwood which has a magically enhanced WeirdnessCensor and a city-wide {{Glamour}} to prevent the humans from noticing anything off with their monster infested city which rests on the edge of a forest that is much, ''much'' BiggerOnTheInside and filled with kingdoms of demons and TheFairFolk. It doesn't work on everyone and seeing something shocking enough can break the glamour for an individual permanently. The city's Animal Control is actually a city funded CreatureHunterOrganization.
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Chicken for Charby, gummy bears for Mye, nachos for Crispo, cheese puffs for Tony, sausages and her favorite spork brand for Yiska, biscuits for Biscuit and muffins for Breck.
* TranshumanTreachery: Humans that get turned to vampires also realize their inner jerk.
** There has been at least one who didn't.
** The Elites (Anh Keth) who deal w/ Quixoto, particularly the chick.
* TrashOfTheTitans: What the cabin looked like with Menu as the sole occupant, Charby initially suspected Menu was giving him room free of rent in exchange for cleaning it up.
* TheTrickster: Tony and Yiska, since she moved in the cabin has two flavors of trickster living therein.
* TwinTelepathy: Mye and Hex are aware of each others emotional states.
* TheUnfavourite: [[WhyCouldntYouBeDifferent Victor]], [[IHaveNoSon Zeno]] and [[YouShouldHaveDiedInstead Daray]] were/are this to their parents.
* UngratefulBastard: Most people Victor saves, especially since they tend to think he’s just murdered someone who was just annoying them instead of a monster that was trying to eat them.
* UnfinishedBusiness: The local psychopomp Vidor is sick of this excuse after only two days on the job, though spirits that bring it up are allowed to contact a single person to leave a final message.
* {{Unicorn}}: Ervaine’s guard Ilex has a unicorn with a multicolored horn as a mount. There was also a single-horned alpaca-like mount for sale in Kellwood’s demon market.
* UnusualEuphemism: Stronger swear words are blacked out and overlaid with creative terms that rarely mask the original and some of the cultures in Kellwood forest have their own swears that are not censored.
* UnwantedHarem: Mye suffers from this, though it's later revealed there's a reason for it.
* UrbanFantasy: The bits that take place in the city anyway. The cabin Charby and the others live in is equipped with modern tech for the time period (1994-2004).

[[folder:V -- Z]]
* VampireBitesSuck: It ain't no dainty pin prick, and definitely not sexy!
%%* VampireFiction
* VampiresHateGarlic: Even Elites like Charby can't stand the stuff.
%%* VampireMonarch: King Rodericke Robinson.
* VampireRefugee: Diana tries to hold onto her humanity and subsists on blood provided by her boyfriend after she is turned, she does not join up with any of the vampire groups and spends most of her time hiding.
* VampireVarietyPack: Elites, Purebloods, Ancients and the standard type turned by the bite.
* VillainProtagonist: They have soft sides, but let's just say these are ''not'' {{Friendly Neighborhood Vampire}}s.
* VitriolicBestBuds: In fact a few of the relationships here are like that...
* WainscotSociety: Vampires and other supernatural beings run a society of sorts in parallel to the humans on whom they prey, mostly preserving a {{Masquerade}}. Dragons are able to pass as humans and like to enjoy human amenities without seeming to prey on them.
* WalkingShirtlessScene: K’ale doesn't care for shirts and Daray when he’s lounging around the house, implied to be to show off his [[PowerTattoo tattoos]].
* WantedPoster: Daray is wanted for arson, theft, and debauchery.
* WardrobeWound: Mannick is most disappointed when trouble with his portal housing stomach mouth leaves a shirt he likes torn almost in two.
* WarriorMonk: Jozk is faithful to Orzzoren and an excelent fighter.
* WeakenedByTheLight: Sunlight causes the traditional vampires to [[ManOnFire burn]].
* WeirdnessCensor: Kellwood City is under an extra strength one to keep the humans from noticing the oddities in their town.
* WeirdnessMagnet: Victor’s childhood was haunted by this. Zeno attracts hungry monsters.
* WhamEpisode: The night Zeno is possessed by the master, Tony [[spoiler: nearly dies]] trying to protect Mye [[spoiler: and Zeno]], and the twins' backstory is dragged to light by Charby and Kavonn.
** The discovery of who the wraith is and why Zeno has been behaving so oddly to his housemates.
* WhamLine: When Hex apologetically informs Mannick, the most innocent and openly friendly cabin resident, that if his "father -- friend" Doctor Hayter was one of the cabin scientists Menu ate him, unless Mannick can read that Hayter survived using his psychometry Mannick responds with [[spoiler: "I didn't need to. Mannick killed him in ''another'' Byss laboratory."]]
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Charby starts out with almost endless patience for sentient monsters of any age while quickly jumping to murder if ''humans'' of any age annoyed him.
* WhatTheHellHero: Mye allows Charby to [[spoiler: accidentally kill a rude teenager after he's promised Victor he'll stop killing humans even while he begs her to heal them, and then sends the body into the refrigerator to be used as food ensuring that the poor girl's family will never have closure or know what happened to her, just because she knocked into Mye while riding her bike]]. Charby calls her on it but doesn't push it since [[spoiler: “last time a friend was acting funny [his] head exploded.”]]
* WingedHumanoid: Fairies, the [[OurDemonsAreDifferent scotodino]], some of the [[OurVampiresAreDifferent Anh Keth]], and [[PlayboyBunny Bunny]] all have wings.
* WorkingClassWerewolves: Menu was homeless even before being inflicted with lycanthropy. Seeing as it takes rare potions to temporarily turn him human again at any time and he spends the night of the full moon frothing at the mouth, he won't be gainfully employed anytime soon. He does currently "own" a cabin, by virtue of accidentally eating its previous inhabitants.
* WorkingWithTheEx: Zerlocke is furious when he’s required to work in the same vicinity as Adria without attacking her, and finds he’s not quite capable of it to her amusement.
* WouldHarmAChild: Quixoto prefers them to adults as his prey. Charby and Hex have no problem permanently maiming or killing children that they find rude or annoying or consider to be bullies, Charby only towards humans and Hex towards anyone. Charby eventually changes his views on this.
* WoundThatWillNotHeal: Victor has an unhealing cut on his right cheek.
* YouCantGoHomeAgain: John Marlowe leaves Kellwood and his wife to [[spoiler: protect Victor]]. Breck has been banished from the Elvish Kingdom of Eldenlon.
* YourHeadASplode: Zeno favors the "Scanners Special"
* YourVampiresSuck: Elites are outrageously more powerful than the traditional vampires that also exist in the comic. Neither like each other as can be expected.
* ZergRush: King Rodericke's subjects stream out of the caves in which the Vampire Kingdom resides in waves to take on Zerlocke. Unfortunately for them he is functionally immortal, luckily for Rodericke he's not actually trying to defeat the Kingdom.
