->"''YES!''"

Jirard "Dragonrider" Khalil is [[https://www.youtube.com/user/ThatOneVideoGamer The Completionist]]. Every week, he [[HundredPercentCompletion completes a game 100%]] and then reviews it, detailing the quality of the game overall and whether or not the payoff is worth the hours spent on completing it. Refreshingly, Jirard uses very little (if any) profanity[[labelnote:*]]Except in the [[EarlyInstallmentWeirdness first few episodes]], which use quite a lot of offensive content. Thankfully, a "remastered" version of the first episode (which was the worst offender) has been released, replacing some of the more tasteless/dated humor and censoring the remaining swearing-though his Doom review provided an uncensored F-bomb for the first in a while.[[/labelnote]] in his reviews, making them reasonably family-friendly, as well as informative and entertaining. His videos originally contained ongoing storylines, but those have been phased out after the departure of his co-host, Greg, in 2015. Nowadays his videos are made up of self-contained reviews with occasional skits.

Unlike other reviewers, Jirard doesn't rate a game based on a FourPointScale or numberical/alphabetical grades. Instead, his ratings are as follows:

* Complete It! - The game is relatively easy and/or fun to complete, or the reward for getting 100% completion is worth the struggle.
* Finish It! - The game is still a lot of fun to play and finish whatever Story Mode is in the game, but getting all the collectibles and/or achievements is more trouble than it's worth.
* Play It! - The game is a lot of fun to play, but can get old with extended sessions or the late stages are far too annoying to deal with.
* Look At It! - The game is kind of boring or terrible to play, but interesting enough to check it out via a [=YouTube=] series or something similar.
* Donate It! - The game is horrible and should never be played by anyone sober. Originally titled "Burn It!"

Originally, his reviews were divided into rigid sections: Story[[labelnote:*]]An introduction to the game's plot and characters[[/labelnote]], Presentation[[labelnote:*]]A look at the game's graphics and music[[/labelnote]], Gameplay[[labelnote:*]]A look at the game's gameplay and controls[[/labelnote]], Final Level[[labelnote:*]]Detailing the [[TheVeryDefinitelyFinalDungeon final level]] and [[FinalBoss boss]] in a spoiler-heavy but skippable section[[/labelnote]], The Struggle[[labelnote:*]]A look at how hard the process of completing the game is, added in Season 2[[/labelnote]] and the Completion Bonus[[labelnote:*]]A look at the bonus received for achieving [[OneHundredPercentCompletion 100% Completion]], anything from a [[InfinityPlusOneSword secret weapon]], to a [[NewGamePlus new game mode]][[/labelnote]], before Jirard gives his final Completionist Rating. However, the show went under a massive retool after the ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia'' review in the October of 2016, getting an new interface as well as the new segments: The Legend[[labelnote:*]]Information about the game and ''why'' he's playing it, and also what the game's reputation is in gamer culture: this also includes his gameplan for how to complete it based on what (occasionally little) he knows about it[[/labelnote]], The Quest[[labelnote:*]]His experience with the game and his initial impressions of it[[/labelnote]], The Battle[[labelnote:*]]Usually detailing his journey towards completion and focusing on several challenges in particular on his quest to complete the game[[/labelnote]], and The Reward[[labelnote:*]]The details of completion bonuses, and also his review of the game itself: whether it's worth playing and whether it's worth completing[[/labelnote]]; with only the rating system left from the original system-with each of the new segments merging and mixing previous aspects. While he still uses this format even today, the segment labels have changed to custom ones based on the title being reviewed.

Aside from the main ''The Completionist'' series, Jirard has several side series and is a frequent contributor to other channels.

* ''The Completionist: New Game +'' - Jirard re-completes the first 120 games on his channel, offering up new perspective and analyzing any new content for the games that came out since the original video.
* ''The Completionist DLC'' - A look at any additional DLC for a game that Jirard has already made a video on. Unlike the main series, this one only has two ratings: Download It! or Skip It!
* ''Top Tens'' - ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin. Jirard lists his Top 10 Best or Worst of a specific topic, based on his own experiences.
* ''The Completionist Ranked'' - Jirard makes a tier list of various subjects (such as ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}'' starter trios) based on his own criteria.
* ''If You Liked, You Should Try'' - Jirard focuses on a popular game, then gives a variety of recommendations of other games, particularly lower profile or indie games, that offer up similar gameplay experiences.
* ''WebVideo/SuperBeardBros'' - A LetsPlay channel where Jirard is joined by one of his head writers Alex Faciane. Originally, the main draw was Alex providing various trivia and knowledge on the game in question while Jirard played, but that was eventually dropped when people other than Jirard handled the playing. Early episodes often had Greg as a guest, but those videos were lost after the video purge. Eventually, producer Brett Bayonne joined the series officially.
* ''Scary Game Squad'' - A series headed by WebVideo/JesseCox over on his channel, with Jirard and Alex teaming up with him and Davis from WebVideo/TheWarpZone, which specializes in horror games.
* Music/BigBadBosses - A pop group Jirard belongs to, along with Alex and Satchell "[=SatchBag=]" Drakes, with a rotating fourth member each album. Each group member cosplays as a video game villain (Jirard is Bowser) as they sing about the trials and tribulations of being a bad guy.
* Complete Chaos - Another band Jirard is a part of, this one does heavy metal covers of established video game songs.

There are also a variety of shows and formats that Jirard has either paused or ended:

* ''The Mediocre-ist'' - Jirard and Greg switched roles, but since Greg is much less skilled than Jirard, his games don't get anywhere close to 100% completion. Retired completely after Greg left.
* ''Defend It!'' - A skit-based show, heavily based on ''Franchise/AceAttorney'' games, where Jirard acts as the defense attorney, trying to defend a heavily criticized game and shine a light on the positives. Opposing him is prosecutor Andrew Campbell, with Jesse Cox serving as judge. Eventually retired.
* ''Why We Love Games: Stories Through Gaming'' - Rather than a review, this series focuses exclusively on personal experiences Jirard and other guest [=YouTubers=] have had with the subject game in question. Eventually retired and folded into the main ''Completionist'' series.
* ''Insert Coin to Play'' - Jirard and his friends head to an arcade and have fun with the games there.
* ''The Completionist FIRSTS'' - Where Jirard gives a brief first impression of a brand new game, with the explicit intent on not going for 100% completion.
* ''Here Comes a New Challenger!'' - Jirard takes a deep dive at a new game before he's able to 100% it, complete with a unique ratings scale. Due to fan feedback, this series was discontinued and folded into the main show.
* ''The Hype'' - Jirard takes a look at an upcoming game and gives his thoughts on it, usually positive.
* ''God of Work'' - A scripted series made for Creator/G4TV, starring Jirard. Essentially a merging of ''VideoGame/GodOfWar'' and ''Series/TheOfficeUS'', it focuses on Kratos struggling to work an office job in between his released titles. After G4's closure, Jirard successfully gained the IP rights, but does not have the funds to make a Season 2 as of yet.

Originally, Jirard was the owner of a collection of web series called Website/ThatOneVideoGamer, as well as partnered with Creator/{{Polaris}}. However, he eventually left Polaris after some internal strife and That One Video Gamer was eventually dissolved to just being an alternate brand name for Jirard's business ventures.

For the majority of four seasons, the videos heavily featured Jirard's producer and comedic partner, Greg Wilmont (The Mediocre-ist) [[PluckyComicRelief providing much of the comic relief]], and later with Alex Faciane of "The Dex." In early 2015, Greg left the show after a falling out between him and Jirard (alluded to be because of the difficulties in maintaining a friendship while running a business, though neither have said much in regards to the details). In August 2017, Jirard eventually confirmed his falling out with Greg and that sometime after they parted, Greg had requested, and then ''demanded'', that he pull down all the videos featuring the two (that's ''120'' videos from ''The Completionist'' alone and more if you include other videos by TOVG as a whole). In a vlog, Jirard noted that it was a difficult decision and he considered fighting it, but ultimately decided to comply. [[TheDeterminator He then announced that he would]] ''[[TheDeterminator recomplete]]'' [[TheDeterminator all 120 of those games in a new bi-weekly series called "The Completionist: New Game Plus"]], finishing that up in 2023. Jirard encouraged his viewers to [[KeepCirculatingTheTapes upload the old episodes and disseminate them]] before he pulled them, and they can all be viewed [[https://archive.org/details/TheCompletionistArchive here]], for free and without ads.

In 2021, Creator/G4TV was relaunched, and Jirard became one of the first hosts recruited for the new service. He was a constant on both ''Series/XPlay'' and ''Series/AttackOfTheShow''. Due to his responsibilities for G4, he had to scale back ''The Completionist'' to six videos a month (two Wednesdays, four Saturdays), and only appear on ''Super Beard Bros'' on the "'Eff it" videos. Once G4 closed down again, he refocused his energy on ''Completionist'' and ''Beard Bros''.

He frequently streams on Twitch late at night [[http://www.twitch.tv/TheCompletionist here]].

[[folder:Tropes A-M]]
* AccidentalMisnaming:
** In "Luigi's Mansion":
--> '''Greg''': [[RunningGag But Beardman!]] And [[WebVideo/PeanutButterGamer Peanut Butter Sandwich]]!
** In the ''VideoGame/GunstarHeroes'' review, Greg kept calling [[LetsPlay/ProtonJon Jon]] "Bruce Willis." When they team up for LetsPlay/TheRunawayGuys ''VideoGame/MarioKartDoubleDash'' tournament, they adopt the team name "Beard Willis".
* AchievementsInIgnorance: After seeing Cranky claim he beat ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry1'' in under an hour with one life, Jirard proceeds to do just that, thinking it's a real challenge.
** When he recompleted the game for ''New Game Plus'', he took advantage of his network of contacts to talk to the original developers of the game, confirmed that it was just a joke, and changed his rating to "Complete It" as a result.
* ADayInTheLimelight: All of the episodes involving The Mediocre-ist ("TMNT", "Pokemon Snap", "Red Dead Redemption") are this for Greg, usually serving to showcase how bad he is at gaming, [[spoiler:except "Red Dead Redemption", in which he fully completed the game 100%, leading to Jirard's HeroicBSOD in the Season 1 finale.]]
* AllMenArePerverts: Greg falls into this more often than Jirard. Though Jirard is far from immune.
-->'''Jirard:''' ... Can I touch your boobs?
* AnachronicOrder:
** Not the show itself, but over the course of the series, Jirard has reviewed the first four ''VideoGame/MegamanX'' games (''X, X2, X3'' and ''X4'') out of order, as Episode 1, 71, 99 and 41 respectively.
** The original ''[[VideoGame/CrashBandicoot1996 Crash Bandicoot]]'' was played long after the [[VideoGame/CrashBandicoot2CortexStrikesBack second]] and [[VideoGame/CrashBandicoot3Warped third]] games.
* AudienceParticipation: In his ''Videogame/BubbleBobble'' episode, various clips are shown of people doing something to the Bubble Bobble theme song.
* BearsAreBadNews: Averted. Greg spurting out "BEARS!" somehow never gets old.
* BeethovenWasAnAlienSpy: According to "Super Mario Brothers 3", Creator/WilliamShakespeare is actually [[spoiler:Greg]].
* BerserkButton: Jirard really doesn't like time trials, especially ones required for 100% completion. When he re-completed Crash Bandicoot 2, this time the remade version, he downgraded it from a "Complete It" to a "Finish It" solely due to the addition of time trials.
* BigNo: Greg lets one out in Megaman X3 when he realises that [[spoiler:Jirard is trapped in his own soul, damned to eternally playing [[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006 Sonic '06]].]]
* BookEnds: The first and last episode of Season 1 begin with the same monologue, [[spoiler:because Jirard thinks it's the first episode of the show again.]]
* BrickJoke: ''Many''.
** In "Pokemon", Jirard and Alex both wear shirts with colours matching the games they are playing (Red and Yellow respectively). Then Greg walks in, wearing a black shirt despite the fact that he is playing Blue Edition. Jirard and Alex get extremely angry at him, since Alex had to buy a yellow shirt specifically for the occasion. At the end of the episode, [[spoiler:Greg can briefly be seen wearing the same shirt with a piece of paper reading "Blue Shirt" taped onto it.]]
** In the review of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkToThePast'', Jirard was unable to pronounce '''Agahnim''', so Greg suggested to call him [[WesternAnimation/{{Aladdin}} Agrabah.]] Fast forward to Jirard's review of [[VideoGame/AladdinCapcom Aladdin's SNES game]], and Jirard desides to call the city of '''Agrabah''' "Agahnim". It returns once more in the review of ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkBetweenWorlds'', with Agahnim referred to offhand, as Agrabah.
** During the ''Videogame/CrashBandicoot2CortexStrikesBack'' episode, after Jirard uses an "Epic Manoeuvre" joke, the guys from ''Continue?'' appear on screen in a Codec Call, á la ''VideoGame/MetalGear''. They mention how Jirard should make an episode on ''Series/BreakingBad''. Skip ahead to episode 48, and...
** In the ''[[VideoGame/SONICTHEHEDGEHOG2006 Sonic The Hedgehog 2006]]'' 100th episode special, the side story involving the office trying to free Jirard from the game case brings them to contact the ''Continue?'' crew; they decide to not help, claiming Jirard owes Josh twenty dollars. Fast-forward to when [[spoiler:Greg tries to convince Jirard to not complete the game's DLC]]...
--> '''Greg''': You don't have to do this! You don't owe this game anything! You don't own ANYONE anything, except for ME a party hat... and Josh twenty bucks.
* CatchPhrase: Quite a few, mostly provided by Greg.
* CallBack:
** In "Super Mario Sunshine", Jirard and Greg notice that Mario looks like he's humping Yoshi. Greg asks why [[VideoGame/LuigisMansion1 the]] [[VideoGame/PokemonSnap last]] [[VideoGame/SuperMarioSunshine three]] {{Creator/Nintendo}} games they reviewed have featured the main character humping things.
** In "Megaman X4", Jirard refers to "Spark Mandrill Syndrome", and does a skit similar to the one in "Megaman X".
** In "Gunstar Heroes", Greg brings up the Missiles For Kids campaign from "Diddy Kong Racing".
*** In the same episode, Greg's singing of ''"All by myself!"'' is a CallBack to "Luigi's Mansion".
** In the ''VideoGame/JumpingFlash'' review, Greg returns to find that [[spoiler:Jirard is still on meth from the ''Series/BreakingBad'' episode, having 'completed' {{Creator/Netflix}} again.]]
* {{Cliffhanger}}:
** "Sonic 3 and Knuckles": Jirard is telling viewers to send in suggestions for games as usual, since [[TemptingFate it's not like some developer is going to tell him to to play their game...]] [[spoiler:Then he gets a tweet from Ed [=McMillen=], who tells him that he'll never beat ''VideoGame/SuperMeatBoy'' - a game which Jirard had never played prior to the video...]]
** "Red Dead Redemption": [[spoiler:Jirard goes insane when Greg actually manages to complete VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption, calling himself "The Comportionist".]]
** "Super Mario 64": [[spoiler:A mysterious figure appears behind Jirard and backstabs him, trapping him inside VideoGame/DarkSouls.]]
** "Spyro The Dragon": Jirard storms off, fed up of Greg making fun of the wings he's wearing due to a lost bet. [[spoiler:Then the Xbox 360 that trapped Jirard in VideoGame/DarkSouls appears behind Greg and traps him inside VideoGame/ConkersBadFurDay.]]
** "Hyrule Warriors": [[spoiler:Jirard's arch-nemesis The Internet appears to remind him of his 3-year anniversary and tells him he has put off his long-anticipated review of Skyrim long enough, demanding he review it the following week.]]
* CloudCuckooLander: Greg. [[CrazyIsCool That's why we love him]]
** Jirard has his moments.
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: Blind reviews are indicated by the thumbnail of his videos being purple, whereas games he has played in the past already are blue. Yellow indicates that the review is a special of some kind (so far only used for Halloween specials ''VideoGame/BanjoKazooie'' and ''VideoGame/DeadSpace'', as well as ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII'' Month) and turquoise means the game is part of a collection pack.
* CornerOfWoe: The ''VideoGame/AladdinCapcom'' episode features this. Jirard, Greg and [[WebVideo/PressHeartToContinue Dodger]] all end up walking down a hall in despair multiple times during the review.
* DancePartyEnding: A few times, such as in the ''VideoGame/AladdinCapcom'' episode, with Greg singing [[SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic "Never Had A Friend Like]] [[LastSecondWordSwap Greg"]].
* DisneyDeath: [[spoiler:Jirard's "death"]] in "Super Meat Boy".
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: The first episode is practically a ClusterFBomb compared to later episodes.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: In the "Red Dead Redemption" review, Greg offhandedly remarks, [[spoiler:"Don't be so sure I couldn't complete this game!"]] Guess what happens at the end of the episode.
* GrandFinale: It's confirmed that when Jirard is eventually finished with the show, the final episode will be his favourite game of all time: ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry2DiddysKongQuest''. In his "Top 10 SNES Games" episode, he also indicated that his second-to-last episode would be "VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI''.
* GuestStarPartyMember: In a few episodes, notably WebVideo/PeanutButterGamer for the ''VideoGame/LuigisMansion1'' episode, LetsPlay/ProtonJon for the ''VideoGame/GunstarHeroes'' (and Jirard in turn guest stars in his LetsPlay of the game) and ''[[VideoGame/{{Contra}} Contra 3]]'' episodes, Dodger of ''WebVideo/PressHeartToContinue'' for the ''VideoGame/AladdinCapcom'', and Mat-Pat from ''Game Theory'' for the ''VideoGame/MetroidPrime'' review.
** Collaboration Month, kicking off Season 3, was of course built on this trope, featuring Pat The NES Punk, Caddicarus, WebVideo/ProJared and Jesse Cox for individual reviews.
* HesBack: After the HeroicBSOD below.
* HeroicBSOD: In "Megaman X4", the Season 1 finale, [[spoiler:Greg 100%ing ''VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption'' and doing a competent review breaks Jirard. It takes Greg sucking at ''VideoGame/MegaManX4'' to bring him out of it.]]
** In his 100,000-subscriber special, [[spoiler:Jirard gets invaded and stabbed in the back before he can finish his review of ''VideoGame/SuperMario64'' and ends up inside of ''VideoGame/DarkSouls'', a game that never ends]]. In the next episode, after [[spoiler:Greg stabs Jirard's Xbox]], he comes back to reality to [[spoiler:give his final rating for Super Mario 64]].
* HeroicRROD: Parodied in the ''VideoGame/SuperMeatBoy'' episode. [[spoiler:Jirard beats the game, and collapses, presumably dead. Greg prepares to take over the show and do the outro... When Jirard wakes up, having just taken a nap. Greg carries on regardless.]]
** Played straight in the ''VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006'' episode [[spoiler:Jirard beats the game's DLC, but at a high cost - he is wiped of all of his memories and starts roaming the earth. However, he snaps out of it when Greg and Alex erase his ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry2DiddysKongQuest'' save file.]]
* HeyThatsMyLine: In the ''Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS'' episode, [[TheCameo Xander Mobus]] says [[BorrowedCatchphrase "BUT BEARDMAN!"]] [[DudeNotFunny Greg is not amused.]]
* HundredPercentCompletion: The entire point of the show.
* HypeBacklash: [[invoked]]
** Jirard had a miserable time playing ''Skyrim'', mostly because it's open ended nature completely clashed with his style of 100% completion. Lampshaded, when [[AnthropomorphicPersonification the Internet]] steals his beard in revenge for his blasphemy.
** Upon his dreaded revisit to the first game in the ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys'' series, Jirard admits he cut the game a lot of slack the first time around due the teased lore and how it was the new "it thing" at the moment. However, six games deep into the franchise now he's much less forgiving of the game's flaws and reduces his previous rating of a Finish It to a mere Play It, stating that after the first few nights the game turns into an annoying LuckBasedMission not worth the pain and effort, especially since finishing the five nights doesn't even give you anything (aside from a star on the main menu).
* IHaveManyNames: Jirard, Dragonrider, The Completionist, Beardman, King Baldman, and of course, [[AlterEgoActing Shirraco the Laser Clown]].
* IdiosyncraticRatingsScale: Jirard uses a rating scale based on how much he feels the game in question is worth investing the time to complete it. The scale, from best to worst, is:
** '''Complete it''' (100% completion is worth it)
** '''Finish it''' (Better to just focus on getting to the end rather than getting everything.)
** '''Play it''' (Meant for on-and-off casual play.)
** '''Look at it''' (Not really worth getting, better to just watch videos of others doing it)
** '''Donate it''' (formerly '''Burn it''') (So niche only a rare few would bother with it.)
* ImportantHaircut: In the ''VideoGame/GodOfWarI'' episode, Jirard discovers and opens PandorasBox. Inside is an enchanted razor which shaves his beard into a goatee resembling Kratos'. In addition, when competing in the King of the Web campaign, Jirard shaved his head, causing Greg to refer to him as "King Baldman" for the rest of the month.
* KillItWithFire: The final fate of [[spoiler:''[[Advertising/TheBurgerKing Sneak King]]'']], [[spoiler:''VideoGame/HeartOfDarkness'']], [[spoiler:''VideoGame/MegamanX3'', thanks to Jirard's DemonicPossession]], and [[spoiler:''[[VideoGame/SonicTheHedgehog2006 Sonic '06]]'' through fan videos]].
** This used to be the fate of games so miserable as to be unplayable. However, fan backlash to Jirard ''actually burning'' games, and the allusion to burning ''books'', made him reconsider, and "Burn It" is now "Donate It", because ''someone'' enjoys it.
* LaughingMad: Jirard is reduced to this state by the end of the ''[[Advertising/TheBurgerKing Sneak King]]'' review.
* {{Leitmotif}}: DK Island Swing. Initially, this song was used during the Completionist Bonus section of each video. After the remodeling, DK Island Swing was used for the entirety the final section of the show--the Reward (a combination of the Completion Bonus and Struggle sections from the old model). Specifically, the version of the DK Island Swing used on the show is the shortened version from ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry2DiddysKongQuest'', Jirard's favorite video game of all time. The bonus stages where this song played in was a key factor for the existence of the show.
** After the remodel that began with ''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'', DK Island Swing begins to be remixed into other songs from a few games Jirard completes (such as ''VideoGame/MetroidZeroMission'' and ''VideoGame/PunchOut''), but other ''Donkey Kong Country'' songs are also used (like in ''VideoGame/DuckTalesRemastered'' and ''VideoGame/KingdomHearts3DDreamDropDistance''). Eventually, the DK songs were scrapped during the final segment of each show, instead using songs from the discussed games themselves.
** A secondary leitmotif for Jirard is Critical Hit from ''VideoGame/WildARMS''. Prior to the remodeling, this song plays throught the Struggle section of each video. After the remodeling, however, Critical Hit was removed from the show due to the Reward section combining the Completionist Bonus and Struggle sections of the show. However, it made a return in the New Game Plus series to bring back nostalgia of the old model of the show, beginning to play as Jirard tallies the statstics of each completed game. However, it was eventually phased out and replaced by DK Island Swing, just like the remodeling of the actual show. Unlike the main series, which phased out the song eventually, the song is still used on this show for nostalgic purposes.
** Jirard also has a third leitmotif that is heard only rarely. Whenever there's an insane obstacle in the way of completing a game that Jirard needs to discuss, the song Grand Finale from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVI'' plays as he talks about it. The rare section Grand Finale is in comes between the Battle and the Reward sections of his reviews.
* LuckBasedMission:
** Gives a good rant on his ''[[Advertising/TheBurgerKing Sneak King]]'' review.
** During his second go at the first game in the ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys'' series, he changes his initial rating of a Finish It to a lesser Play It because of this, stating that after the first couple of nights the game becomes painfully luck-based and just isn't worth the anguish for practically no reward for bothering to actually complete all 5/6 nights.
* MadnessMantra: After unleashing some epic ''Angrish'' upon learning the infamously hard 20/20/20/20 mode has been returned to ''VideoGame/FiveNightsAtFreddys4'', Jirard kept repeating "This game is really hard and it makes me cry."
* MillionToOneChance: The LuckBasedMission in ''[[Advertising/TheBurgerKing Sneak King]]''. Jirard's odds of success? [[spoiler:0.000045673(repeating)]]. And he still managed it.
** And then he had to do it again for ''New Game Plus''...and he managed to do it ''again!''. He also mentioned that it was a lot less stressful the second time around, because he was streaming it while he was completing it the second time, and the interaction with his fans was a lot of fun, despite the insanity of the challenge.
* MushroomSamba: Briefly in the VideoGame/YoshisIsland episode.
* MythologyGag: In "Megaman X4", Jirard repeats many of the lines from the "Megaman X" review and many others [[spoiler:due to his insanity.]]
[[/folder]]

[[folder:Tropes N-Z]]
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Jirard, his dog and Greg deliver one to ''[[Advertising/TheBurgerKing Sneak King]]'' before burning it. It involved The People's Elbow.
* OverlyLongGag: Many, thanks to Greg:
** Basically all of the "But Beardman!" sections, but most notably in "Sonic 3 and Knuckles".
--> '''Greg''': But Beardman! Creator/{{SEGA}} stopped making consoles since the Dreamcast. Why are they still a company? Haven't they made like 150 [[Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog Sonic games]]? Why is he blue? Is Tails into dudes? What's an echidna? How old is Sonic? Why is Doctor Robotnik weird? ''What the hell is Team Chaotix?'' What if Sonic and [[Franchise/SuperMarioBros Mario]] fought? [[VideoGame/SuperSmashBros Smash Brothers]]! I didn't know Sonic liked sports-- [[VideoGame/MarioAndSonicAtTheOlympicGames Mario vs Sonic at the Olympics]]. [[VideoGame/SonicUnleashed Sonic is a werewolf?]] [[VideoGame/SonicAndTheSecretRings Why is Sonic in Agrabah?]] [[VideoGame/SonicColors Aliens!]] [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure BIG THE CAT!]]
** In "Sonic Adventure":
--> '''Greg''': But this is America! Home of baseball! Apple pies! Hamburgers! Shoes! ...Backwards hats! Candy necklaces! Post-it notes! Tissue paper! Twist-ties! ...Metronomes! ..Ch--... Cheese! ...And... Ovens! AMERICA!
* OnceAnEpisode: When introducing the game of the week, Greg will say "BUT BEARDMAN!" before asking some silly (but sometimes interesting) questions. He's supposedly predicting what the video's comments section will be saying. Lampshaded in the ''Series/BreakingBad'' episode, which Greg is absent for due to his wedding. Jirard takes this role in the Mediocre-ist episodes by saying to Greg, "But Clean-Shavedman!"
** At the end of the episode, Jirard will ask viewers to "[[Website/{{Facebook}} Face]][[Website/{{Twitter}} Twit]][[Website/{{Tumblr}} Tamble]][[Website/{{Instagram}} Gram]]" him before saying "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to do X".
** Nowadays, near the en of his reviews, Jirard says "While I (re-)completed *insert game here*, there were..." Jirard then proceeds to list stats for the game, including total hours of playtime, number of achievements unlocked, and number of collectables collected. The stats always end with a number of something that isn't listed. It can be either a RunningGag or something else relating to the completed game.
* PerverseSexualLust: Jirard and Greg both have it for Catherine with a C in the ''VideoGame/{{Catherine}}'' review.
** Comes to a head in the ''VideoGame/YoshisIsland'' review, where Jirard falls into a depression over her, binging on Chex Mix.
* PrecisionFStrike: The F Word in the middle of the '[[VideoGame/{{Doom}} BFG]]'' is completely uncensored, the first time in the series.
* RecordNeedleScratch: Occurs in the ''VideoGame/GunstarHeroes'' review when LetsPlay/ProtonJon makes a BEARS! joke and Greg takes offense.
* RidiculouslyCuteCritter: Jirard's dog which occasionally makes an appearance.
* RuleOfThree: From the ''VideoGame/ShovelKnight'' episode.
--> '''Greg''': YOU! You measly turnips are no match for my shovel! Onions quiver at the sight of my spade! Also, a third clever vegetable reference!
* RunningGag: Oh so many, though they've fallen out of use since Greg's departure due to Jirard largely playing it solo. A few memorable examples include...
** BUT BEARDMAN![[labelnote:''Appearances'']]''[[OnceAnEpisode Every single episode]]''. Temporarily replaced with "But [[spoiler:King Baldman]]!" for the first four episodes of Season 2.[[/labelnote]]
** It's [[VideoGame/SecretOfMana Neeko]]! The Price-Gouging Cat![[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"The Secret of Mana", "Megaman Legends", "Luigi's Mansion", "Diddy Kong Racing", "God of War"[[/labelnote]]
** Gitches, with Old Man Snitches![[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2", "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past", "Pokemon", "Star Wars: The Force Unleashed", "Aladdin", "Metroid Prime", "Actraiser", "Mega Man 1, 2, and 3"[[/labelnote]]
** [[VideoGame/BanjoKazooie BEARS]]![[labelnote:''Appearances'']] "Banjo-Kazooie", "Luigi's Mansion", "Red Dead Redemption", "God of War", "Banjo-Tooie", "Metroid Prime"[[/labelnote]]
** Shirraco, the Laser Clown![[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Catherine", "Five Nights At Freddy's 2"[[/labelnote]]
** [[VideoGame/SonicAdventure BIG THE CAT]]!, whose existence Jirard desperately tries to gloss over in "Sonic Adventure".[[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Sonic 3 and Knuckles", "Sonic Adventure", "Super Mario Brothers 3", "Sonic Adventure 2"[[/labelnote]]
** [[LargeHamAnnouncer COMMENCE ANGRY (mini) VIDEO GAME JIHAD RANT!]][[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Imagine: Wedding Designers", "Kingdom Hearts 2", "Actraiser", Sneak King", "Heart of Darkness", "Dead Rising", "Assassin's Creed", "Sonic Adventure", "Sonic the Hedgehog 2006", "Shovel Knight", "Earthworm Jim", "Hyrule Warriors"[[/labelnote]]
** Greg’s insanity being fuelled by his addiction to smoothies.[[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Super Metroid", "Sonic Adventure"[[/labelnote]]
** Clean your room, America.[[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Super Mario Sunshine", "Diddy Kong Racing"[[/labelnote]]
** Getting sandwiches has popped each episode since Greg's return in the ''VideoGame/JumpingFlash'' review.[[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Jumping Flash", "Super Mario Brothers 3"[[/labelnote]]
** Time Out (with Greg)![[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Aladdin", "Kingdom Hearts II"[[/labelnote]]
** "So Jirard, you ever going to do the Mario All-Stars pack?"[[labelnote:''Appearances'']]"Super Mario Brothers 3", "Yoshi's Island", "Actraiser", "The Legend of Zelda"[[/labelnote]]
** [[VideoGame/KinectSports KINECT SPORTS 2]]! YOUR BODY IS THE CONTROLLER!
* RunningGagged: All running gags involving Greg were retired following his departure from the show.
* SanitySlippage: [[spoiler:Jirard]], during the ''X4'' review, as a direct consequence of [[spoiler:Greg managing to complete VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption]] in the previous episode.
** Jirard goes through this [[spoiler:again]] during "Breaking Bad" when Greg leaves and Jirard is led to believe that all of Netflix is a game, and [[spoiler:successfully]] tries to complete it.
* SellOut: Has admitted that if game companies want to give him copies of their games before their release date, he will gladly play them to completion and use his review to advertise the new game. During his ''[[VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcom3 Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3]]'' review he even says outright if Capcom sends him a copy of ''VideoGame/MarvelVsCapcomInfinite'' before the official release date, he will turn his video review for it into a commercial.
* ShoutOut: Both ''Aladdin'' episodes with [[WebVideo/PressHeartToContinue Dodger]] feature ''Series/ArrestedDevelopment'''s [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHmQGR99XbA slow walk]] as a RunningGag.
** The destruction of ''Sneak King'' is reminiscent of the printer destruction scene from ''Film/OfficeSpace''.
* TheStinger: Occasionally pops up to introduce next week's game. A notable example at the end of the ''[[VideoGame/SonicAdventure2 Sonic Adventure 2 Battle]]'' episode, with Jirard tossing and turning in bed, agonizing over which game to do next for Sequels Month... Then Greg appears behind him, and simply says... [[spoiler:[[CatchPhrase "BEARS!"]], indicating that they've chosen ''VideoGame/BanjoTooie''.]]
* TheCakeIsALie: It appears as a RunningGag for (fittingly) the review of the [[{{VideoGame/Portal}} Trope Namer]].
* ThisIsGonnaSuck: Expresses this when starting his ''VideoGame/TalesOfSymphonia'' review, knowing that the ''Tales'' JRPG series of games are notorious in their sheer amount of content, which is the bane of any 100 percent completionist.
* ThrowTheDogABone: In the review of Crash Bandicoot Warped. Lampshaded, natch.
--> '''Jirard''': Some of these level designs just seem somewhat ripped from Crash 1 and 2. Nevertheless, this game does everything very well, and it should be praised for it.
--> '''Greg''': Here game, here game! That's a good game. Who's a good game? You are!
** In the Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal review, [[ButtMonkey Twobat the Zubat]] earns the favor of the shiny Crobat after she shuns the attention of the cool crew who had been mercilessly mocking him up to that point in the series.
* WhamLine:
** From "Red Dead Redemption", spurring [[spoiler:Jirard's SanitySlippage]]:
--> '''Jirard''': Wait... [[spoiler:''you completed a game''?! But you're the Mediocre-ist... That means if you're the Mediocre-ist, what does that make me?]]\
'''Greg''': [[spoiler:Well, you're still the Completionist.]]\
'''Jirard''': [[spoiler:''Who am I?'' I gotta be someone else... I can't be the Completionist anymore... Means I gotta be the Comportionist... Tell you how to eat... How to eat your two thousand calories worth of daily intake...]]
** "Super Mario 64" has two, both in onscreen text:
-->[[spoiler:''[[VideoGame/DarkSouls Dark spirit]] n00bhunter1138 has invaded!'']]\
[[spoiler:The Completionist died.]]
** From Megaman X3, prompting [[spoiler:Jirard's FaceHeelTurn]]:
--> '''Jirard''': This game should [[spoiler:''BURN IN HELL''.]]
* WhamEpisode: Any of the reviews that are focussed on plot become these compared to the [[BreatherEpisode normal reviews]].
** "Super Meat Boy": Jirard [[spoiler:completes the game at long last, but not without ''dying'' in the process. Greg valiantly takes over the show, declaring himself the Mediocre-ist. Luckily it turns out that [[DisneyDeath Jirard had just passed out]], but this episode still marked the birth of the Mediocre-ist.]]
** "Red Dead Redemption": Greg [[spoiler:actually completes VideoGame/RedDeadRedemption, and Jirard goes [[SanitySlippage completely insane]] as a result, abandoning his "Completionist" persona completely.]]
** "Megaman X4": [[spoiler:As Jirard's review becomes [[SanitySlippage less and less coherent]], he eventually goes into [[HeroicBSOD "Beard Hibernation Mode"]], rendering him completely frozen and unresponsive. However, when Greg attempts (and fails) the first level of Megaman X4, Jirard breaks out of his comatose state and, after regrowing his beard, gets ready for a second season, [[HesBack becoming The Completionist once more]].]]
** Meta example: The "Thank You Greg Wilmont" video, which announced Greg's departure from the show. Suffice to say, fans (especially Jirard) were upset.
