''[[https://www.deviantart.com/mirroredknight/gallery/8327257/white-dark-life White Dark Life]]'' is an amateur webcomic by a Website/DeviantArt user dubbed "[[@/PrinnyOverlord pommyman]]". The medium was originally fan fiction, but then progressed to MS paint and from there to more elaborate hand drawings, with the story occasionally changing as the cartoonist changed their approach to story telling. The story itself is a fan fiction, but an overarching story is unfortunately missing in favor of shenanigans that don't follow much of a sense of time. The actual plot itself is about Matthew Mokaray, who unfortunately fell off a building during a field trip before the whole thing even started. Due to being lackluster all in all, he is split into two parts: one going to heaven, the other to hell. What follows is his training to become the guardian angel of an alternate [[Anime/SonicX Cosmo]] and keep the demonic half of him and his girlfriend Artemis from terrorizing the poor plant girl. HilarityEnsues between fighting the "evil" Dark Matt and dealing with the resident fool, Collin.

Similar to Anime/{{Naruto}} Shippuden, there is a {{time skip}}ped storyline set 23 years after the original story with many of the previous characters having gotten married and becoming parents. There are also new characters not related to the normal series, but the base plot is relatively similar to the last, with Matt having to become a guardian angel again and protect [[GenerationXerox Ivy and Sky]] from what is possibly the laziest villain ever.

A new part simply referred to as "Gen 3" is currently in the works wherein Ivy, Sky, and the rest have grown up and become parents themselves and both of Matt's halves relationships inadvertently cause angels and demons to take interest in living with the living. Even though they have been accepted into the world, some aren't as willing to share with beings with such supernatural abilities and plan to seal away not only angels and demons, but also those that carry their blood. Such as Sol and Luna Mokary...

Many of the comics have ongoing play-by-post games between pommyman and another user, [[Tropers/{{Luigifan}} Luigifan18]], which add extra characters to the mix, new plot lines, and expand upon plotline elements in the comic itself.

The comic also has another side, viewed from Ben's point of view and maintained by Altairen Draconis -AD for short- in the form of Data Log journals. These can be found [[http://altairendraconis.deviantart.com/ here]]. Mind you they do get a bit wordy with upwards of a thousand plus words in each. The plots of these also tend to run parallel rather than with the comic.

----
!!''White Dark Life'' contains examples of:

* TwentyMinutesIntoTheFuture: The post-TimeSkip comics and roleplays are ''supposed'' to take place in the 2030s, but still end up looking more like they take place when they were written.
* AbsurdlySharpBlade:
** Inverted. Matt finds blood gross, so his swords, while able to slice through people, don't cut things. Justified in that his powers are implied to be on a mental level. [[spoiler:The same is true of Dark Matt.]]
** [[spoiler:Played straight in the case of Ben's regular main melee weapon of choice, which has the power to rend space (though it rarely sees use here).]]
* AdoringThePests: One of the many reasons no one likes Gloria is that she keeps parasitic cockroaches as pets. Bear in mind that these are demonic roaches that cause agonizing pain to other gluttony demons if they get into the demons' bodies.
* AerithAndBob: Synder, Artemis, Esther, Cosmo, Matt, and Ben.
* AllThereInTheManual: The roleplays tend to give the spotlight to some of the characters who don't get seen often in the comics and usually contain both amusing jokes and actual facts about the characters.
* AllYourPowersCombined:
** Matt's main ability is mimicking various characters and gaining their powers (and weaknesses), and he can even combine two skill sets at once. Unfortunately, this can eat up his stamina pretty fast. Dark Matt has this ability too, [[spoiler:at least before the time skip]].
** Several of Luigifan's characters have this power, too. Of particular note is Miriam, who proves capable of '''TRIPLE''' mimicry (though it's a DangerousForbiddenTechnique).
* AloofBigBrother: Ben. He is superior to Matt in everything but screen time and occasionally sanity, but hardly helps his dead brother. [[spoiler:Though this is likely due to Ben's deadened (read: completely) sense of reality, having seen a long line of combat campaigns under the banner of one of Orbis's residential leaders, Queen Sephise, '''before''' returning back to where the comic takes place.]]
* AprilFoolsDay: The day before April Fools of 2016, pommyman said that he'd post critical character information in the next post. It was obviously a joke with Ne supplanting his own facts after stealing pommyman's comic.
* ArtEvolution: Looking back at the older comics, you'd think they'd be a different series entirely.
* AscendedExtra: Galaxina, who only appeared in a few episodes of ''Anime/SonicX'' (and only in flashbacks, no less), is Matthew's sensei and employer, making her one of the more important characters in the plot.
* AwesomeButImpractical:
** Mimicry sometimes falls into this category depending on what is being mimicked, where the impractical part goes from "drains stamina like mad" to "kills the user in minutes". Especially when double and triple mimicry are involved.
** Of all things, and from all people, Artemis claims BreastExpansion to be this. Sure, it gives you an incredibly alluring figure, but it's very easy for it to result in you coming out deformed or [[PopGoesTheHuman dead]].
* BigEater:
** Damien, Dark Matt's son. Natural given that he's a demon symbolizing gluttony.
** His daughter, Ophelia, is more of a big drinker (no, she's not an alcoholic).
%%* BigFun: Post-time-skip Tori is certainly seen as such by her children.
* BlindWithoutThem: Tori can't see well without her [[OpaqueNerdGlasses giant glasses]]. Averted with Matt.
* BodyHorror: Damien can form mouths almost anywhere on his body. Let that sink in. [[spoiler:Dark Matt's true form is stitched together to keep it from falling apart.]]
* BoobBasedGag: The Head Maid is often the butt of this type of physical humor.
* BrainyBaby: Priscilla is only a year old and can talk, but that pales in comparison to Inu and Uma, who started math at that same age.
* BrainwashedAndCrazy: Blake is the result of Damien's [[EnemyWithin shadow]] taking over his mind.
* BrattyHalfpint: Damien and Priscilla are very rude at times. Only natural, considering their [[OurDemonsAreDifferent parents]].
* BreastExpansion:
** At one point, Esther is forced to wear an inflatable bra from Artemis. It actually proves to be somewhat helpful.
** [[spoiler:A young Rosa once tried this. Unfortunately, they exploded from getting too big. Somehow, [[MadeOfIron she survived this]].]]
%%* ButtMonkey: Caroline, though it's mostly because of the crowd she ends up being in.
* BuxomBeautyStandard: Rosa and Caroline, as foils to [[DCupDistress The Maid and Eloria]], are [[BigBreastPride proud of their large breasts]], though Caroline is mostly indifferent to the matter. Momoko's breasts are large enough that they override Damien's BlackHoleBelly. This is because she has the power of growth and fertility, which also applies to herself.
* CasanovaWannabe:
** Collin. Good ''lord'', Collin. The only thing that keeps him from being a rapist is lacking the physical strength to subdue the average (or even below-average) woman. [[spoiler:He loses this entirely after the time skip.]]
** Unfortunately, Kris takes up this role for the post-timeskip comics. Of course, this is because his main traits as a demon are lust and pride, so he's at his strongest as long as he fulfills this trope.
* ChaosArchitecture: While Artemis' house is simply BiggerOnTheInside, Luke's castle is as chaotic as Franchise/{{Castlevania}}.
%%* ChessWithDeath: Bowling, actually.
%%* ChubbyMamaSkinnyPapa: Tori and Matt fit this to a T.
%%* {{Cloudcuckoolander}}: Devin [[spoiler:pre-time skip]].
* ComicallyInvincibleHero: Part of the reason Ben gets little screen time is because the cartoonist is bad at science jokes and he is the strongest character in the series.
* ComicTrio: Actually made up of four characters: Damien, Priscilla, Nessie, and the Head Maid. The first three will change roles if need be, with Damien acting as either the leader or fool, Priscilla as the leader or complainer, and Nessie as the complainer or fool. The Head Maid always complains.
* ComplainingAboutRescuesTheyDontLike: Inu and Uma constantly give snarky or outright hurtful comments to whoever rescues them. About the nicest reaction was [[http://comments.deviantart.com/1/586779249/4145498522 Inu's actual surprise that Annie and Anastasia healed him from near-death.]]
* CrossDresser: Matt has mimicked female characters at times at times in the roleplays. He is almost always called out on it.
* CrossOver: One arc in progress has Matt, Anya, Galaxina, and Collin having to pay off a huge debt to [[VideoGame/KidIcarusUprising Palutena]] when an attempt to send Collin into space has him crash into Angel Land.
** A cancelled arc was the cast telling an edited version of ''VideoGame/TheBindingOfIsaac'' as a ghost story on Halloween, with Cosmo replacing Isaac. It was canned when the cartoonist decided that the helpful zombie cast ruined the horror theme. That, and it deviated too much from the plot.
* CrushFilter:
** This is actually how Matt and Tori started dating. After being cured of sin poisoning, Matt's memories of the past few days get a little blurred together and exaggerated Tori's niceness towards him. Surprisingly, it works out.
** Damien is hit hard with this when he starts to understand Dream's feelings towards him. It actually gets him to stop his more perverse interactions with the Head Maid simply because the filter ''lowers his perception on women that aren't Dream''. Possibly Justified in that demons strictly follow monogamy like swans.
* CuteMonsterGirl: Most of the female characters are at least part monster. This trope applies specifically to [[OurDemonsAreDifferent Artemis and Priscilla]], [[Anime/SonicX Cosmo and Ivy]], [[CatGirl Tori]], [[SnakePeople Saru]], and [[HarpingOnAboutHarpies Uma]]. Inu and Damien can qualify for Cute Monster Boys.
* DamselInDistress: Cosmo is periodically captured by Dark Matt. However, [[DidntThinkThisThrough he never actually plans out]] keeping her kidnapped, and on some occasions [[DamselOutOfDistress she just walks out]] because she'd rather be doing something.
* DarkIsNotEvil: Despite all their dark powers, demons have their own sense of morality, and given their stable economy, they have little reason to do evil.
* DCupDistress:
** The Head Maid really hates being as large-chested as she is.
** Eloria is implied to harbor similar feelings, to the point that she tapes them down enough to come off as flat-chested.
** Esther starts off in this boat once she gets hit with a late growth spurt, but eventually moves out when she [[BigBreastPride gains a positive body image]].
* DeathByIrony: Attempted by Matt. [[Videogame/{{Bomberman64}} Regulus]] (known as Bulzeeb at the time) was a boss with TWO InstantKill attacks in ''Bomberman 64: The Second Attack'', and gets attacked with an instant kill. It doesn't work, however, because it's Matt.
* DeathIsCheap: Matt and Dark Matt are technically already dead, and therefore [[ResurrectiveImmortality are able to respawn shortly after being killed]]. The same technically applies to Galaxina (at least in the comics), but she never dies on-screen. [[spoiler:Artemis' death also doesn't do much outside of taking her to heaven.]]
** Matt and Annie have potent healing powers that also tend to impose this on everyone else. Annie's powers do have fairly well-defined limits beyond which someone would be DeaderThanDead, but Matt has been shown to be able to surpass those limits when necessary.
** [[spoiler:Inverted by the time of Generation 3; Ben does die a dramatic death, due to the resonance crystal running out, only after using all of its energy up and stays dead. However, he does not ascend or descend; he just gets sent to a blank white void of a box, in which he will watch the world. Yet he can still be found there by pulling people into it.]]
* DealWithTheDevil: Persons of interest to Dark Matt often get bargains from him. Naturally, the cost is a HUGE drop in karma at [[HumiliationConga BEST]].
* DisproportionateRetribution:
** [[spoiler:Altair plans complete and total [[FinalSolution genocide]] and CessationOfExistence for the inhabitants of hell, both present and future, for the sole fact that Artemis fell in love with him.]]
** [[spoiler:After being pushed ''well'' beyond her RageBreakingPoint, '''[[OnlySaneMan Tori]]''' [[BewareTheNiceOnes of all people]] decides to make enemies with the entire Heroes' League, simply to deny Miriam from being with Ne, to spite Mordred.]]
* DistractedByTheSexy: [[http://comments.deviantart.com/1/577188445/4017747102 A hilarious example]] occurs in the "Growing Pains in the Neck" roleplay. Maxmillian Schneider, who, due to a… ''strange'' childhood, has no understanding of his libido, nonetheless gets distracted enough to walk into a pole upon noticing Esther Mokary's [[http://pommyman.deviantart.com/art/Growing-Pains-In-the-Neck-577188445 recent]] [[BuxomBeautyStandard growth spurt]].
* DistressedDude: Dark Matt's final attempt at antagonizing Cosmo has him kidnap Matt so that Cosmo comes to him. [[spoiler:This is mostly in hopes that she dies in a death trap where he can't see her die.]]
* DoggedNiceGuy:
** B.I.L.L. ([[FunWithAcronyms Boyfriend Invented for Lonely Ladies]]) is programmed to be ludicrously nice to women, being advertised as the perfect boyfriend. Unfortunately, this annoys the Head Maid, since she can't return him without the receipt and he was a gift.
** In the roleplays, Matthew also acts like this, eventually becoming a LoveMartyr once Uma starts attacking him and he ''still'' tries to win her favor. [[spoiler:He does eventually back off once he can no longer hide from the realization that [[ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies him pursuing Uma would most likely end in her grisly demise]].]]
* TheDreaded:
** Out of the Demon Lords, Gloria, the Demon Lord to be of Gluttony, is considered the worst even by her peers, as she sees the world entirely as "food" and "not food". (Annie, who has had several traumatic experiences with {{Super Persistent Predator}}s, [[TraumaButton has a nervous breakdown]] when Artemis tells her about Gloria.)
** Rosa is considered very dangerous by most of the cast because they'd prefer ''not'' to be hit with potions brewed by a genius witch.
%%** Demon Lord rank demons tend to be this, with the Astartes being the main exception (Most of the time). On the other hand, Luke is this to the Demon Lords for simply being that powerful.
* DrunkOnMilk: Caroline gets plastered when she has caffeine, like real spiders.
* DudeNotFunny: In-universe example with ''VideoGame/KatamariDamacy''. [[http://comments.deviantart.com/1/288077380/3240987749 Sort of.]] Lucy has a nerve struck by Collin saying getting [[ItRunsOnNonsensoleum rolled up by a Katamari and turned into a star before poofing back into existence]] is weird, as she was in a [[VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy much less goofy and comedic version of the same incident]]. She seems fine with letting The Prince go about his star-making business, though.
* EveryoneCallsHimBarkeep: The Head Maid does have a name, but outside of the roleplays, this is typically unused. [[spoiler:It's Devin Whidoe.]]
* EveryoneHasStandards: Even Artemis finds the idea of enchanting underwear to be too ludicrous.
* EvilCounterpart: Dark Matt sees himself as this to Matt, and most of his shenanigans are aimed at reinforcing this image. [[spoiler:However, much like Matt, his fear of blood prevents him from actually committing murder or even inflicting lasting harm on others. Due to this, as well as numerous other circumstances, Dark Matt [[HeelFaceTurn drops the charade entirely]] after the time skip.]]
* EvilIsVisceral: Subverted; Dark Matt uses blood-based magic only after [[spoiler:his HeelFaceTurn]]. [[spoiler:In fact, he used to be even more afraid of blood than his counterpart.]]
* EyelidPullTaunt: Uma uses this on Torch in one roleplay. (Torch somehow mistakes it for [[Franchise/MegaMan Dr. Wily's signature eyebrow taunt]].)
%%* FaceHeelTurn: Damien when he becomes Blake.
* FanBoy: Guess [[VideoGame/Bomberman64TheSecondAttack which character]] the cartoonist got the name ''pommy''man from.
* FanGirl: Mildred is one to [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyI Garland]] of all people. Especially odd in that she's a 90 year old [[SpiderPeople spider person]].
* Fiction500:
** Dark Matt is implied to have a huge check, what with being an actor and all, though it's really the maid who falls into this, as she hoards all of the money she charges for dealing with Damien. It is implied she could run for office with what she has.
** Downplayed with Collin. He might not have to work, but he only has enough money for the bare necessities of himself.
* FluffyCloudHeaven: Seemingly averted. The Heaven we see with Galaxina and her family is a seedrian-built city, with grassy plains all around, though it has been mentioned that there is ''more'' than one Heaven, one of which is presumably this trope.
* TheFourthWallWillNotProtectYou: [[spoiler:Inverted; pommyman uses the author's comments to verbally attack Dark Matt when he's dying. He later [[TheReasonYouSuckSpeech tears Rebecca and Leon apart]] [[https://www.deviantart.com/comments/1/577188445/4915322706 during their final downfall]] in the "Growing Pains in the Neck" roleplay.]]
* FunnyBackgroundEvent:
** These happen from time to time. For example, Nessie opening what looks like a gift-wrapped fish to find a chess set.
** There's also VideoGame/PacMan wandering into the Crystal Palace while some Duplighosts are mimicking him.
** [[spoiler:A similar incident to the above happens when [[VideoGame/BendyAndTheInkMachine Bendy]] stumbles upon Miriam, Ne, and Cassandra using the powers of ''VideoGame/{{Undertale}}''[='=]s final bosses to beat the stuffing out of [[VideoGame/OneNightAtFlumptys Flumpty Bumpty]] and [[ScrewThisImOuttaHere promptly leaves the scene]].]]
* TheFriendNobodyLikes:
** Collin is beyond repulsive, but the most annoying thing about him is that he genuinely believes he is friends with everyone and invincible, so it's impossible to get rid of him should he start hanging out.
** Caroline is an odd example. She has a reasonable (if gloomy) personality and is only in this position because her "friends" are all either jerks or see her as nothing but a tool to use.
* FunnyAnimal: As a Sonic fan comic, this is a given.
* GenericCuteness: The characters all look like VideoGame/{{Bomberman}} characters, so even Nessie, who is supposed to be an anglerfish, looks rather cute.
* GoingCommando: Nessie doesn't wear underwear. This falls into implied FanDisservice if you know how anglerfish reproduce (which goes beyond "implied" for [[https://www.deviantart.com/comments/1/434105887/3386264222 one unfortunate X-Naut]] who Nessie kicks in the face).
* GoodIsDumb: Matt frequently makes mistakes on subjects he doesn't fully understand. One noticeable example was thinking his daughter Uma's name meant "sheep" instead of "Horse".
* GreaterScopeVillain: [[spoiler:As annoying as Dark Matt is, he is upstaged by Altair's villainy. Altair had been going behind the scenes absorbing redeemed sinners, planning to use the power boost from them to destroy hell itself, which would turn it into an [[CessationOfExistence empty void.]]]]
* HandicappedBadass: The Head Maid [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe lost her lower body]], and now has prosthetic legs. Said prosthetics can break kevlar with a quick kick.
* HappilyAdopted: Galaxina legally adopts Matt at the start of the series.
* HardDrinkingPartyGirl: Tora. Justified in that she is an Oni, but exaggerated in the amount she drinks when she is drunk and the [[AlcoholInducedIdiocy idiocy the alcohol causes]].
%%* HeelFaceTurn:
%%** Lucas, the father of Cosmo and Galaxina; if the name seems unfamiliar, his former title -- [[spoiler:Dark Oak]] -- may ring a bell instead.
%%** [[spoiler:Dark Matt and Artemis have undergone this by the time of the time skip.]]
%%** The GUN Commander is shown to be overall less antagonistic, reflecting the events of ''VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog''.
%%* HeroicBSOD: Matt's one response to [[spoiler:Tori divorcing him is to just flat out stop projecting himself in the mortal world]].
* HeelRealization: [[spoiler:A despairing Matt has one when Cosmo says he's like a villain and he realizes he can't counter her point.]]
* HilariousInHindsight: Crops up from time to time in the roleplays, especially the one that take place after the TimeSkip. Viv the electronic poltergeist is the standout example; [[spoiler:her backstory is that Tails accidentally created her while repairing a clock for the Mokarys, due to Mysto magically sabotaging said clock to cause supernatural mayhem. Turns out that [[VideoGame/SonicFrontiers Tails was beaten to the "accidentally creating a quasi-life-form from technology due to unforeseen outside influence" thing by Eggman]] — by roughly ''twelve years'' InUniverse]].
* HypocriticalHumor: Matt has repeatedly stated that he hates perverts, but he carries around lewd images to activate his weaponized nosebleeds.
%%** Most of the gags involving Rebecca are her being a hypocrite.
* IfYouEverDoAnythingToHurtHer: Memori tries to use this on Damien in a roleplay, only for him to [[ObliviousToLove not understand the threat]].
* ImAHumanitarian: Synder nearly eats Matt in one gag. Entegra and Devin are also prone to consuming Matt, though Devin sometimes eats random mooks.
** Though, for the most part, this is averted by any character with the explicit ability to eat large objects. They usually have a given reason as to why they do not eat people. Damien can't stomach raw meat and fears people killing HIM trying to get out, Saru doesn't want to risk getting sick from cannibalism, Ophelia is Damien's daughter and thus was told not to eat people, and Blake finds the idea disgusting. [[spoiler:Harshly, Damien eventually changes to play this trope straight, though he doesn't always ''digest'' them.]]
* ImTakingHerHomeWithMe: Cosmo brings [[VideoGame/SonicTheFighters Honey the Cat]] home in a one-panel gag.
** Torch tries this with Inu in the roleplays. [[PapaWolf It does]] ''[[BerserkButton not]]'' [[WhyDidItHaveToBeSnakes end well]].
* ImmortalityBeginsAtTwenty: Averted with Artemis, but played straight with Dark Matt and her children.
** [[spoiler:Ben also qualifies, though this is due to having had something done to him to keep him alive and stable after his first walk through the Rift on his first trip to Orbis didn't go quite well. He now has a limitless power source inside his body, which is facilitating his recovery as well as giving him access to powers rather uncharted.]]
** [[spoiler:AD ran the math for Ben's official age. He is 840000 years old, as he has been trying to fix his own problems for that long. This occurs in force, [[StableTimeLoop going back through time some thirty thousand times]] due to [[SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong repeated failures to prevent a world ending calamity]] in 2036.]]
* IncorruptiblePurePureness: This version of Cosmo is pretty sweet for someone who lost her entire family. It's implied she's acting happier than she really is.
* [[spoiler:IneffectualSympatheticVillain: Dark Matt, whose efforts at 'true' villainy are hamstrung by his fear of blood and violence. As a result, he can't bring himself to do anything more than PokeThePoodle.]]
** [[spoiler:He does, however, make one last-ditch attempt at offing Cosmo for real during a VillainousBreakdown. The result is nothing more than a bloody cut before he breaks down completely.]]
* IronButtMonkey: Collin is too stupid to understand concepts such as pain, hunger, or vacuums of space, [[AchievementsInIgnorance effectively making him the most resilient character in the comic]]. Post-time skip Collin loses a good chunk of that iron, though.
* ItOnlyWorksOnce: [[spoiler:Ne's [[VideoGame/{{Undertale}} Dreamer]] Ne ability is borderline godlike to the point that only something that breaks the rules of the world has a chance of outclassing him. However, it requires so much more power than Ne will ever have that it's only because of [[EldritchAbomination what he's fighting]] that it even becomes reality at all.]]
* ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies: Uma constantly tries to point this trope out to Matthew when she learns that Mysto is trying to kill her to spite him. But it's not until the Mogeko Castle arc that he realizes how utterly screwed Uma would be and how no amount of training on his part would help her.
* KickingAssInAllHerFinery: Artemis only ever wears finely styled dresses and is one of the more aggressive characters when fights break out.
* KillItThroughItsStomach: Gluttony demons are noted to be vulnerable in their stomachs.
* KilledOffForReal: Entegra died of natural causes during the timeskip.
* LeanAndMean: Artemis is rail-thin and getting on her bad side is an easy way to ruin your life.
* LegionOfDoom: The main comics don't really have one, but in the roleplays, the League of Villains definitely qualifies. Led by [[Characters/SuperMarioBrosBowser Bowser]], its other members include [[Franchise/SonicTheHedgehog Dr. Eggman]] (who is TheDragon), Grodus, Cackletta, Mysto, Mephiles, [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Ganondorf]], and Andross. Interestingly, while Bowser is officially the leader (having founded the group in the first place), and Bowser's Castle is their main base of operations, in practice, its members take turns being in charge, with the one who came up with the current EvilPlan acting as the figurehead. And the League of Villains is ''not'' the entire RoguesGallery, not by a long shot.
* LethalHarmlessPowers: Collin's power (once "Chase" wakes up) is being able to touch the untouchable and pass through solid objects. Did we mention this power was inspired by [[Manga/DGrayMan Tyki Mikk]] and as such, allows Collin to [[NoSell effortlessly evade attacks and ignore any and all defenses his opponents have]]? He was even able to tear Snake-Jaw out of Maxmillian, a task deemed impossible for even '''[[RealityWarper DARK MATT]]'''!
* {{Leitmotif}}: Each character bio usually has a link to a song the cartoonist thinks characterizes them. Characters also can end up getting more than one, with Dark Matt and Artemis having three in total (Normal, [[OneWingedAngel "Tr]][[ClippedWingAngel ue"]], and Adult).
** Many (but not all) of Luigifan's characters have theme songs as well, which are linked to in the roleplays as appropriate.
* LightIsGood: With about one exception, the angels are portrayed as being quite nice. God is also stated to be benevolent.
** Subverted in Priscilla's case, as her light powers are literally light, not holy.
* LoveCannotOvercome: As much as Matthew tries to reassure Uma that he'd save her from people like Mysto or Wrapsodi, Uma constantly uses them as major reasons why she refuses to be his girlfriend. That, and she's convinced that it wouldn't be just the bad guys getting hit with his [[SquashedFlat go-to strategy]].
* LovedByAll: Silver and Blaze's family have this in the roleplays. The only people to dislike them are either their enemies (for all of them), [[MySisterIsOffLimits Justin]] (for Sunlight), or [[EnragedByIdiocy Inu and Uma]] (for Torch). Of course, it helps that [[AFatherToHisMen they take ensuring the safety and well-being of their subjects]] very, ''[[RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething very]]'' seriously.
* MadnessMantra: [[StarfishLanguage - - = // -/ - -]]. Unfortunately, the cartoonist has yet to reveal the demon alphabet, so exactly what it means is unknown as of this writing.
%%* {{Maid}}: [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin The Head Maid]], though she's more like a babysitter. Mildred serves as this to Blake.
%%* NinjaMaid: The Head Maid does not take kindly to people messing with her.
%%* MasterOfYourDomain: Tulip and Lily Natchralli have this as one of their primary abilities.
* MeaningfulName: Completely and hilariously averted with Tori and her children (and Tora as well). Played straight with Boar and their last name.
* MorphicResonance: Unless a mimic is trying to perfectly copy someone, they'll usually have incredibly obvious hints on who they really are. Sort of justified in that it's typically just the clothes that change.
* NoGuyWantsAnAmazon:
** This is true for Tora, who is one of the few characters to not get a spouse post-time skip, but BILL certainly doesn't see anything wrong with chasing after the [[KickChick Head Maid]].
** A mass aversion happens in the Roleplays where being a badass seems to actually make women more attractive.
* NotQuiteDead: The comic introducing Caroline proper reveals that [[spoiler:Astoria survives her encounter with Ben in the Data Logs]]!
* OnceDoneNeverForgotten: Luigifan will never, ''ever'' live down the time he accidentally hit Uma in the face with a glass bottle and knocked her unconscious. Even worse were the ''contents'' — he ''tried'' to make a LovePotion using assorted pheromones. What he ''actually'' made, due to not being all that much of a chemist, is a stinkbomb.
** Other things that keep getting brought up are Luigifan nearly killing Tulip with his Yveltal, Nikolai handing Leila over to Zharnev, and Matt launching Leila to Bowser's Castle and getting her kidnapped and nearly slaughtered.
* OneWingedAngel: That cutesy-looking human form Artemis has? It's fake, and God help you once she decides to take it off.
** Ironically, Altair has no super-powered form.
* OnlySixFaces: Characters are usually denoted by size, hair, and outfit rather than distinct faces.
* OriginalCharacter: Most of the characters of the webcomic are this.
* OurDemonsAreDifferent: The major difference is that rather than powerful monsters that punish sinners for all eternity, they have monetized the system. Sinners come in, are punished by Punishers [[PunchClockVillain (which is a job title)]], the punisher is paid, the sinner eventually has equal punishment for his crimes and ascends to heaven. Biologically, demons are also categorized into different types based off the SevenDeadlySins, of which there is a demon family that is the strongest of each type. Getting into more bizarre territory, Demons of the same type always produce a child of their sin (ie, Wrath + Wrath will always equal a Wrath demon), ''but'' demons of different types will always have a random type (as seen with Artemis (Lust) and Dark Matt (Envy), whose first two children are Damien (Gluttony) and Priscilla (Pride)); also complicating this is that Demon Nobles that are not the type of their family (like the earlier-mentioned Damien and Priscilla) will be both the family type and their own type. Lastly, the pecking order ends with the Devil, Luke, who writes and enforces the rules. Though [[spoiler:Luke is not the Lucifer of Christianity, he's the replacement picked by Lucifer himself]]!
* OurDragonsAreDifferent: Dragons in this series are a lot more like [[WingedHumanoid winged humanoids]] with horns and tails than giant lizards, and that's just Synder's species. Another example are Gadgyts, AD even has a piece on them located [[http://altairendraconis.deviantart.com/art/On-the-Subject-of-Gadgyts-623781460 here]].
** Of note for the comic and supplemental data logs, there are three to four types in play. They are; Gadgyts, Minaps, Matriarchs, and Yulanns.
* OurMermaidsAreDifferent: Nessie is a mermaid anglerfish. She even lights up in the dark! Also an example of SirensAreMermaids.
** Alen and Elan are Mer-Sharks who remain half fish and half humanoid at all times. Also, they do not have an enthralling voice.
* OurWerebeastsAreDifferent: The consistency of werebeasts is pretty flimsy. Adult ones like Boar can change at will, but others change only at nights that have a full moon. A good majority of the werebeast cast aren't even normal creatures, but mythological ones like Oni or harpies.
* PatchworkKids: Downplayed in the case of Ivy and Sky; they are realistically similar to their parents (as in still just being one species and not seedfoxes), but have the colors of the other parent.
* PlantPerson: Cosmo and Galaxina, just like in [[Anime/SonicX the source material]].
* ThePowerOfHate: [[spoiler:It's what keeps sinners from being redeemed, so when it looks like redemption equals a FateWorseThanDeath, Dark Matt begins trying to become the most hated person in existence.]]
** [[spoiler:When Altair stole his innocent brother's wings to go to heaven after he got the both of them killed, his brother proceeded to hate Altair to the point that he became the freaking Devil!]]
* PregnantBadass: Synder is shown in almost every scene as being heavily pregnant, as she is a surrogate mother. She is also [[OurDragonsAreDifferent a dragon, which speaks for itself]].
** Many female characters in the roleplays become this, mostly because the bad guys ''really'' want to make sure they don't give birth.
* PunchClockVillain: The Devil, and by extension, almost every demon in the series. Turns out that punishing sinners can be rather helpful to the economy if you do it right. [[spoiler:It helps that Luke is Altair's non-insane brother.]]
* {{Psychopomp}}: There is no single entity of death in the series; instead, there are several, with varying personalities and appearances.
* PunnyName: Matt's last name is Mokaray. As in, he's a mockery of other heroes.
* RealityWarper: Dark Matt gains this power after the time skip, but can only affect people based on their karmic impact. This usually manifests as giving people the flu.
%%* RecruitmentByRescue: This trope is how the Heroes' League was formed in a nutshell.
* RescueRomance: Being one of Luigifan's favorite tropes, this is common in roleplays. However, things don't always work out when it begins to involve pommyman's characters. The most notable are [[spoiler:the {{Deconstruction}}s with Matthew and Uma, whose relationship crumbles faster and faster because Uma believes Matthew is taking away her freedom with this trope]].
** Of course, Dream and Damien, Justin and Ivy, and Maxmillian and Esther are crossover examples of this being played straight (to varying degrees of straight).
%%* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: [[AccidentalAesop Unintentionally]] deconstructed with Entegra, whose {{Jerkass}} behavior is largely (though not entirely) fueled by the pain of losing her children.
%%* RobotMaid: Mildred is of the MobileSuitHuman kind.
* RoomFullOfCrazy: On a conversation about Dream falling in love with Damien, pommyman immediately began posting - - = // -/ - - repeatedly with at the time random tropes. [[spoiler:In the comics, this is taken as an actual event where Damien sends Luigifan the EXACT same posts as a distress call before finally turning into Blake.]]
* RougeAnglesOfSatin: Slight spelling errors are rather common. This almost happened to Ophelia, who was accidentally written as Ophillia.
* Rule63: The cartoonist has designed a gender-swapped cast with multiple name changes and some gaining new personalities. For example, Maya (Matt) is a cosplay fan, and Artemis has traits of the BrokenBird. It also does not shy away from the UnfortunateImplications of reversing some of the characters' genders.
* RunningGag: The cartoonist regularly appears in a [[VideoGame/BlazBlue Valkenhayn costume]] during roleplays when he needs to give information to Luigifan.
** The roleplays in general have a large number of running gags, including Mysto being called a witch (she's a sorceress and [[UnequalRites insists on being addressed as such]]), Luigifan (the character) being hilariously inappropriate, Garcia acting as the CloudcuckoolandersMinder, (post-time-skip) Matthew's [[AccidentalPervert accidental lewdness]] around Uma, and Ne constantly forgetting who Miriam is.
** Tharja and "Mr. Grimmy" are always hidden somewhere in the VideoGame/FireEmblemAwakening comics when the Tactician or Morgan are involved respectively.
* ScarilyCompetentTracker: Artemis and by extension, most cubi are this. As it was put for Artemis, she's designed to find a specific person in the world and kill them. It doesn't matter where they are, she will find and kill them. [[SuperPersistentPredator She also doesn't allow for anyone who gets out of her prison to live much longer than for one day.]]
* SatelliteCharacter: Lona Schmidt, though that is to be expected given that she's based off of [[spoiler:Mike Schmidt]], who has no known personality at all.
** Rebecca and Leon, similarly, have little characterization outside of being strawmen.
* SenselessSacrifice: [[spoiler:Dark Matt is repeatedly killed and made weaker as his fight with Altair drags on, while Altair is no worse for the wear. Having no alternatives, Dark Matt turns his soul into a bomb in a last-ditch effort to blow up Altair. Altair merely loses some of the souls he absorbed. Though this does drive Artemis into finally attacking Altair.]]
* SevenDeadlySins: Demons embody at least one of these traits and grow stronger the more they indulge in their specific sin.
* SilkHidingSteel: Tori studies this once she becomes a mother.
* SpiderPeople: Driders are a common species, but unlike most portrayals, they are only about six inches tall. This is thrown out the window in the roleplays, where Entegra is scaled up to the size of the other characters, but Mildred is still tiny.
** The future Arc introduces Caroline, a TARANTULA drider whose subspecies seems to be more human-sized.
* SpringtimeForHitler: Part of Adult!Collin's backstory has him in a casino. Unable to resist the urge to play just one round of slots, he puts in a coin he found and wins the jackpot. He then tries to lose the money through more gambling but somehow ends up winning each time.
* StarfishLanguage: The demon alphabet is composed of lines, dashes, and dots. Their speech is described as more like a screeching noise than actual talking.
* SurprisinglyRealisticOutcome:
** During the VideoGame/MogekoCastle RP arc, Dream theorizes that King mogeko might be tormenting Ne's mind directly [[spoiler:just like the way he does to Yonaka in the "good" ending of ''VideoGame/MogekoCastle'']], and suspects that Miriam might try killing the king to fix Ne's mind. When confronted, King mogeko states that [[spoiler:he'd never "play" with another guy; Ne's fear is purely from the events in the castle. King mogeko ''is'', however, artificially sustaining that fear in order to use Ne as bait in order to get Miriam]].
** As it turns out, trying to make an (albeit pretty mature) five-year-old horny is a very good way to creep them out and make them harbor an '''intense''' dislike for a person. [[http://comments.deviantart.com/1/434098632/3864545486 Leila can only say "oops" to that idea.]]
** After Snake-Jaw utterly destroys Esther's [[ClothingDamage shirt and bra]] while trying to kill her, Artemis supplies her with a new pair, to which Esther immediately questions if the underwear has a perverted enchantment. Artemis quickly points out that it's just an [[BreastExpansion inflatable bra]] and calls the idea of magic underwear stupid.
* SweetTooth: Damien always has chocolate somewhere on him. Or at least in him.
* SymbolSwearing: Curse words are bleeped out with a string of asterisks. Except "wanker" for some reason.
* TakeThat: Megyn Kelly is mocked for claiming Santa and Jesus are white.
** Another strip tears [[Literature/TheTwilightSaga Twilight]] in general, and Edward Cullen in particular, a massive new asshole.
** Rebecca and Leon's feud is a not at all subtle attack on the recent gender wars.
** Not even the cartoonist's brother is immune! Comics that were come up with by him usually tend to have noticeably less quality and work put into them.
* TautologicalTemplar: '''Altair'''. Good ''lord'', Altair. [[spoiler:Even '''[[{{God}} GOD]]''' tells him he's wrong and he '''still''' thinks he's right.]]
* TechnicalPacifist: Cosmo learns to fight just in time for Dark Matt's final attack.
** She was always capable of fighting in the roleplays, but has a strong dislike of violence.
* TimeyWimeyBall: Damien travels back in time to learn villainy from his then-teenage parents, but is ultimately sent back with little to no effect on the timeline. Then Blake, an adult Priscilla, Ophelia, and a slightly older Eloria come from further up the time stream into Damien's starting time.
** This is even more confusing in that Synder might be Really700YearsOld because of time shenanigans.
** [[spoiler:Ben also qualifies, seeing 2000 years of combat and other political problems and the many number of '''''WORLD''''' Wars on Orbis.]]
* TooDumbToLive: Collin's entire point. He loses this trait after the timeskip.
** Leon proves to be even DUMBER!
* TookALevelInBadass: ''Everyone'' after the timeskip. [[spoiler:Except for Altair, who '''loses ''all''''' of his levels in badass due to Dark Matt's SuicideAttack.]]
* TookALevelInJerkass: [[spoiler:Damien upon becoming Blake; in fact, it's a full FaceHeelTurn. Also Devin after the timeskip; she and Dark Matt's maid are one and the same. Devin, however, has a good excuse -- she went through a ''massive'' TraumaCongaLine.]]
* TookALevelInKindness: Collin after the timeskip is a lot nicer now that he understands the repercussions of his actions. This doesn't quite apply to most women, however, as he also takes a level in gynophobia. Not gynophobia as in hatred of women, he's literally ''terrified'' of them, to the point where he'll run away screaming when one so much as ''approaches'' him.
* TheUnreveal: When asked about his parents, Matt simply says they were average people and that he doesn't remember their address. Cosmo proceeds to yell about [[LampshadeHanging how annoying it is that they didn't learn anything]].
* WhatIf?: One of the categories of the comic. Ranging from GenderSwap, to switching Cosmo and Matt's roles as Guardian and protected, to even a version where Altair isn't a huge jerk.
* {{Yakuza}}: Boar used to be the head of a Yakuza group, but they became a community service group once Boar was forced to leave.
* {{Youkai}}: Rather than turn into normal creatures, Tori and Tora turn into a {{Nekomata}} and an Oni respectively.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: The "3rd Gen/Ophelia timeline" of the roleplays turns Damien and Ophelia into this, as it takes place eight years after the 2031 roleplays. This means that Damien is only ''15'' and already a father, while Ophelia's age is vague but most likely around 2 to 4-years-old. Both are supposed to look like an adult and 8-year-old just like they look in the comic.
* YouNoTakeCandle: Devin and Nessie speak like this. Devin because she has no schooling, and Nessie because her voice makes men go crazy.
