[[WMG: Tom and Jerry do talk.]]
It's just that their chases don't give them time for that.
* Tom canonically talks at least once (Million Dollar Cat, I believe). I think it's a mix of them generally chasing, and they simply don't want to. They just seem to "get" each other. Depending on how dark you interpret their "game," it could also be neither want to "humanize" the enemy.

[[WMG: Spike knows Jerry is responsible for hurting him (and Tyke). He pretends not to know to torment Tom.]]
Well, just how oblivious and gullible he can be? Somehow, while sleeping, he one-eye peaks to realize Jerry is plotting to get Tom into trouble. For example, when Jerry puts dynamite on his stomach, he peaks on him to find that out but instead makes it look like Tom caused it. In later shorts, where his son Tyke appears, Spike orders Jerry to hurt Tyke while he watches it happen. But being a PapaWolf, he will rescue Tyke at the right time. An example would be when Jerry gets Tyke dirty. Spike will rescue him when he is dressed like a chicken. All these have cases have in common is that Jerry and Spike are not looking in the eye after Tom gets into trouble. This is to prevent him from discovering Spike plotted all this with Jerry. If you think about it, it makes sense.

[[WMG: The animals are Mammy Two-Shoes' parts of her mind.]]
* Tom = Id
* Jerry = Super Ego
* Spike = Ego

[[WMG: Jerry only watches Nibbles part-time or on weekends, the rest of the time Nibbles stays at an orphanage.]]
Jerry is only prevented from adopting Nibbles full time [[ItsNotYouItsMyEnemies because of the dangers posed by Tom.]]
* I could guess Spike has this kind of setting to Tyke.
** Perhaps he has joint custody with Tyke's mother. They were divorced which is why we never see her.

[[WMG: Edited versions of their cartoons winding up on the Spotlight Collections was no accident.]]
Warner Bros. had a gambit going on. They knew only hardcore cartoon buffs were going to complain about it, so they made a replacement program for them, while giving the general public the edited versions, and everyone's happy.
** {{Jossed}}: It was an accident. The upcoming Golden Collections are going to be presented completely uncut, hence why "Mouse Cleaning" (which was deliberately left out of the Spotlight sets) is already planned for the future release of Vol. 2.
** , now that it's confirmed the banned shorts will not be on the Golden Collections, after all, this guess may well have been reopened.

[[WMG: Jasper and Tom are two different cats.]]
* After Mammy threw Jasper out at the end of ''WesternAnimation/PussGetsTheBoot'', she bought a new cat; Tom. This explains why they look so different.
** Alternatively: Tom and Jerry are the children of Jasper and Jinx (the mouse in that short.) Both Tom and Jerry learned their craft from their parents. However, since Tom and Jerry grew up in the same household, they sometimes met as very young children and developed a minor friendship that they had to abandon. This is why Tom can never actually bring himself to kill Jerry. They know their relationship would be frowned upon by both, so channel their frustrations into increasingly violent, but never (kind of) fatal games of chase.

[[WMG: Spike is an [[AbusiveParents abusive father]] to Tyke.]]
But not directly. As a result, he indirectly abuses him by using Jerry. Although he knows Jerry is responsible, he pins the blame on Tom.

[[WMG: The League Of Cats is the [[Webcomic/{{Homestuck}} Midnight Crew.]] if they were written by Nepeta.]]
In an episode of ''WesternAnimation/TomAndJerryTales'', Tom joins a group of three cats to catch Jerry. All of them wear different ties which hold different symbols. Three of them wear Spades (Tom), Hearts (The Long, Orange One), And Clubs (The Small, Yellow One). The fourth one, while not wearing a suit, does indeed act like Diamonds Droog, who acts through manipulation and treachery.
* This. Makes. So. Much. SENSE.

[[WMG: Tuffy and Nibbles are two different mice]]

Watch ''Two Little Indians'' and you see two different mice. They act differently in different shorts too.

[[WMG: The later episodes without Mammy take place after she finally kicked Tom out for good.]]
Tom spent the next few years being taken in by various owners. And of course, as seen in ''The Lonesome Mouse'', Jerry followed Tom because he can't stand the boredom of not having Tom around.

[[WMG: Ms. Two-Shoes of ''WesternAnimation/TomAndJerryTales'' is Mammy Two-Shoe's daughter.]]
She's the product of an inter-racial marriage.

[[WMG: Tom survived "The Two Mousketeers".]]
Come on, it's a cartoon. It ''seems'' final, but even if you survived the decapitation, it would probably be smart like a motherfucker.
* Not to mention, he got his entire body sliced in half earlier in the episode. If he could survive that, he can probably survive anything.
* In truth, we hear the guillotine fall, and watch the mice nod their heads a moment in sorrow, but you never actually see firsthand Tom lose his head. Maybe Tom escaped or was pardoned and someone else was executed; the mice had assumed it was Tom.
* Which one of Tom's lives was that one?
* He just picked up his lobbed-off head, screwed it back on, and went off grumbling.

[[WMG: Tom is really in Hell/Purgatory, and Jerry is the devil enacting his seemingly eternal punishment for the sins that he committed in his mortal life]]
There is something about Tom and Jerry in which there is more focus on Tom rather than Jerry. For a cartoon about a cat and a mouse, we seemingly never see what the strife of life for Jerry is like, and When it focuses on Tom, we often see him getting into different situations that each highlight one of the seven deadly sins.\
\
For example, Tom will want to consume living prey and eat out of the refrigerator or other food stashes without permission indicating Gluttony, he will devise horrible schemes such as building a mousetrap or selling away an escaped animal for money indicating Greed, he will become attracted to any female cat that he sees without paying any attention to what she wants indicating Lust, he will use whatever violent force on both Jerry and anything and anyone around to catch Jerry indicating Wrath, he will often be sleeping around the place when he should be keeping an eye out for Jerry indicating Sloth, he'll get jealous of the fortunes of others around him very quickly (especially Jerry's) indicating Envy and he'll care about himself over others over what he gets and how he looks at himself indicating Pride.\
\
This could also explain why whenever Tom has had a part in harming others around him, he is the one who is always punished instead of Jerry, even when he didn't mean it to them. Even talking and explaining things to them will not change their stance when Jerry is pulling the strings because of who Jerry is.
* And of course, there is the ''Main/NegativeContinuity'' that many of the shorts operate on.
** Then again, There have been a few shorts where bad things have happened to Jerry alone, maybe he's just another lost soul in purgatory who isn't so much different from Tom?

[[WMG: Gene Deitch upped the violence and abuse to get himself fired]]
There are statements that Gene Deitch did hate Tom and Jerry for its violence and racist stereotypes. Not to mention, his run was rather short. So he could've been doing it for the money at the time, but hated it and couldn't take it anymore.

[[WMG: The reason [[WesternAnimation/TheTomAndJerryShow Tom and Jerry Show of 1975]] ever existed is because....]]
Tom got fed up with Mammy Two Shoes and ran away. Jerry ran away with him, and Tom didn't attempt to eat him because Mammy Two Shoes always forced him to chase him down, and so they searched for a good owner and a calm life. Most of the owners were good but the life with them wasn't, and so, by the end of each episode, they continued to search.

[[WMG: Cousin "Muscles" is the son of Uncle Pecos]]
I mean come on! They both have super strength and a violent streak towards cats. Maybe Muscles grew up watching Pecos pull whiskers out of other cats and this influenced his behavior as an adult.

[[WMG: Had Hanna Barbara kept running ''Tom and Jerry'' it would have essentially become ''Pixie and Dixie and Mr. Jinx'']]
It was clear some traits of the show were becoming prominent in the final shorts, the more LimitedAnimation with UPA-inspired backgrounds, the more laid back plotlines, the bumbling cat getting Thrown A Bone ''far'' more often. The clear exception may be the latter's abundance of dialogue, though as the 70s show demonstrates, Hanna Barbara wasn't above implementing that as well. If production notes are reliable, it is suggested even the odd early Pixie and Pixie episode was derived from some of the unfinished Tom and Jerry cartoons.

[[WMG: ''WesternAnimation/HeavenlyPuss'' was not AllJustADream.]]
Tom did die and needed Jerry’s forgiveness to avoid being sent to Hell. Jerry may have been seconds too late signing the Certificate of Forgiveness but the powers that be decided to be lenient, and removed Tom from Hell instead of letting him dwell there. Tom waking up as if it were just a dream was just their way of resetting reality, giving Tom a second chance at life.
** Alternately, tying it in with an above WMG, this was only the start of Tom’s stay in Hell, and every episode after this takes place in his own personal IronicHell.

[[WMG: ''Tuffy is older in later shorts''.]]
While the "Tom and Jerry" shorts have NegativeContinuity (some of the shorts at least) I noticed that Tuffy seemed slightly taller in later appearances and can speak (he even talks more than Tom and Jerry in certain episodes). Him still wearing a diaper might be RuleOfFunny or they might be shorts in later appearances.

[[WMG: Tom's old owners (yes, that includes that horrible owner from the Gene Deitch shorts) are in jail.]]
That's why Tom moved from home to home throughout the years. Their abusive behavior towards him has finally come back to bite them in the butt and they've been arrested and had their pet taken from them. Of course, Jerry also follows Tom to his new home wherever he goes.

[[WMG: The duo is in a sadomasochistic relationship.]]
