What they didn't know, was that the farmers son survived, the grandson of Cabbage guy, witnessing a group of three benders destroy his home and family. His name is Amon, and he will destroy all benders. |

I theorize that Amon is the one who will offer the temporary alliance, and Korra will accept out of desperation. When he started the Equalist cause, Amon struggled between his feelings for the Lieutenant and his righteous crusade, an inner conflict that probably was the reason for his more insane methods. He only realised his folly when it was too late, and he was forced to pull a Kuvira on Lieutenant, so that his cause wouldn't end. However, he was clearly shaken by it, taking his wrath sadistically on Mako, and eventually being unable to keep his concentration and defeat Korra. |
