[[WMG:Akira is TheAntiChrist.]]
* More like the AntiAntiChrist.

[[WMG:''Devilman Grimoire'' is the latest incarnation of the Devilman universe.]]
The Devilman universe has gone through many cosmic reboots. First was the world of the original Devilman manga. After it was destroyed, it was rebooted into the world of ''Manga/ViolenceJack''. This was then rebooted into the world of ''Manga/DevilmanLady''. This was then followed by the world of ''Shin Violence Jack''. And then it was rebooted yet again, this time into the world of ''Devilman Grimoire'', which seems to combine elements of all the previous incarnations (so far featuring characters from both the original manga as well as ''Devilman Lady'') as well as elements from the 1970s anime series. In this sense it is similar to Stephen King's Franchise/TheDarkTower series, where time also works in a cyclical pattern. The fact that Grimoire is set in the present day, with characters who originally existed in the 1970s (Devilman) or early 2000s (Devilman Lady), also bears a resemblance to the History Monks of Literature/{{Discworld}} and how history is manipulated by them.

* And it will be the last. Either the main characters will prevent another reboot or God will [[HeelRealization realize his error]] and feels he's punished Satan long enough.
* And it has since been revealed that ''Devilman Saga'' will actually be the final incarnation of the Devilman universe.

[[WMG: Ryo's story of the professor's fate was an inversion of what actually happened.]]

The end of the manga makes it very clear that Professor Asuka never did any research on demons, which calls into question if any of what Ryo said about his father was true. So what really happened to the professor? It's possible that the demons out and out killed him after Satan assumed Ryo's identity for the sake of TheMasquerade and the backstory was another one of Psycho Jenny's implanted memories, but there's no reason why Psycho Jenny couldn't have just hypnotized him like she did Satan. Maybe the BroadStrokes of the story took place, but Ryo's explanation inverted the motivation behind the professor's actions.

Going from this, Professor Asuka did become a devilman, but:
* Instead of killing the family dog out of demonic blood-lust, he killed it because it had been taken over by a demon and tried to kill him.
* Instead of the demon inside the professor trying to kill Ryo, it was the professor himself taking action after realizing that "Ryo" was not really Ryo (possibly learned from the memories of the demon that possessed him). Rather than his human side taking over and committing suicide to protect Ryo, it was the demon sacrificing itself and its host to protect Lord Satan.

Ryo was not consciously aware of his true self until much later, so he would not have known any of this and was only going based on what he observed.

[[WMG: In at least one timeline, Miki and Sirene became a Devilman team like Akira and Amon]]

Because at some point, Siren's going to realize the obvious win-win of becoming one with Miki would allow her to be with Amon, keep Miki alive, and possibly avert the rebooting nature of the universe/

[[WMG: God is dying]]

Satan says that he "won" when he fought against God and then froze himself. Why would he decide to freeze ? Because he landed a killing blow on God, but needed to wait until God ended "bleeding out". God's actions during the bombing are actually his final death and the angels coming to Satan are seeking revenge for the death of their father.

[[WMG: Satan is experiencing moral decay as a result of his eternal punishment.]]

Some fans have noticed that Ryo/Satan is a lot more of a {{Jerkass}} in ''Crybaby'' compared to the rest of the series, even lacking his epiphany that he's just as bad as God. This may be a result of him being forced into an endless loop of lifetimes where he falls in love with Akira and then has to deal with his inevitable death subconsciously wearing down on him, even if he doesn't know it's happening.

[[WMG: The only way to stop the time loop is for Satan to accept that Akira doesn’t reciprocate their feelings and [[IWantMyBelovedToBeHappy allow him to to be with Miki]].]]
God only seems to reset everything after Satan kills Akira, Satan only kills Akira because he’s being relentless during the final battle, Akira is so unrelenting because Miki and her family are dead, Miki and Tare were killed by a lynch mob and her parents were [[PoliceBrutality tortured to death by the Demon Busters]]. The reason these horrible fates befell them was because Ryo exposed Akira as a devilman, and Ryo exposed Akira as a devilman because he was jealous of how close Miki and Akira were. Therefore if Satan respects Akira’s wishes and doesn’t reveal his identity, the Makimuras survive, Akira and Ryo’s friendship is maintained, [[DidntSeeThatComing God is thrown through a loop]], [[VillainousBreakdown attacks the earth]] [[MoralEventHorizon with the intention of destroying both demonkind and humanity]], the Demon Legions and Devilman Corps join forces to drive God back into space, Satan and the angels God abandoned in his retreat chase after him, and some odd years later Akira and Miki are married and have a son they named Ryo.

[[WMG: God began the Time Loops because Satan has inadvertently made it now impossible for Humans and Demons to co-exist when he was meant to do the opposite.]]
It seems odd that when at the beginning of the whole descent into madness for Satan God just told him to simply kill all the demons, not even bothering with what may happen to the humans and other inhabitants of the world. What if instead of just doing as he was told Satan was meant to be a MODERATOR that became TOO sympathetic to the demon's plight or they possessed him and twisted his thoughts to only pity them rather then help them make peace with humanity?
** In the Old Testament and in Jewish thought Satan is thought of more as a "celestial prosecutor" meant to test the moral worthiness of humans. This is showcased pretty clearly in the Book of Job. If you wanted to go with this interpretation Satan was meant to moderate the Earth, but became too complacent with the morality of the demons and started making excuses for them. God of course went Noah's Flood/Sodom and Gomorah on their asses, and Satan wasn't happy about it.

[[WMG: There are minor changes with each Time Loop]]
* In the first version of Devilman, when Akira put on the Demon Mask he saw a moth/butterfly demon named Irufuno being killed by a stag beetle/sauropod demon named Waze, but in the OVA Devilman: the Birth Irufuno Merged with a plant demon and killed Waze.
* In the first edition of Devilman the spider demons invading the school are lead by the Demon General Zann, while in the Delux Edition they were lead by a demon spider web named Rasber.
* In the manga and Anime/Cyborg009VsDevilman, Jinmen used a little girl Akira used to babysit as his shield in his shell, in the OVA, Novel and Anime/DEVILMANCrybaby it was Akira’s mother.
* Likewise in the manga Akira fought Sirene first and then Jinmen, in the OVA and Crybaby he fought Jinmen before Sirene.

[[WMG: God is testing humanity and Satan with the time loops]]
* The real purpose of the time loops is to get humanity and Satan/Ryo to understand the true value of love. The fact that they consistently fuck up and give in to their paranoia and violent, hateful emotions deeply disappoints him -- explaining why he keeps resetting the loop. The one time that they actually pass his test and don't fuck up the planet, God will leave them be and let time pass normally with no further resets.

[[WMG: The OVA series are in one universe and are the second to last timeline]]
* The OVA trilogy, and maybe the crossover Cyborg 009 VS Devilman take place in the same verse, and as per the ending of Amon: Apocalypse of Devilman, Akira simply walks away from Satan/Ryo after realizing he can never defeat him. Ryo's expression at the end indicates remorse, and he seems to come to terms with the idea that he'll never be loved by Akira. Should God reset the Earth once more, the original anime adaptation shows the LighterAndSofter world that emerges where Satan/Ryo is out of the picture, and leads to Akira's and Miki's happier ending.
** Alternatively, it's the last timeline since we have proof of what occurred between Akira and Ryo/Satan since there's no telling if he faced him off in the original anime's future. Thus, Satan's final punishment is to live in an eternity where Akira will only ignore him.

[[WMG: Had the 1973 Anime gone on for longer…]]
* Episode 39 Would have introduced a new Demon General (either a CanonForeigner or possibly General Zann from the manga) who would become the ArcVillain of the next ten episodes.
* Ryo Asuka would be introduced as a [[AdaptationalSpeciesChange human]] demon hunter and childhood friend of Akira and Miki. He’d quickly figure out that Akira is actually Devilman and be very antagonistic towards him, both for having killed Akira and for deceiving Miki before eventually warming up to him, but still pressuring him about Miki needing to know the truth.
* Devilman would eventually defeat Zenon, [[KlingonPromotion possibly becoming the new leader of the Demon Tribe in the process.]]
* Miki would find out Akira is really Devilman, which would become a major source of drama towards the end of the series.
* God would replace Zenon as the main villain for the last arc of the series.
