A collaboration project between multiple users of the 2ch ImageBoards, Yume 2kki is one of the first ''VideoGame/YumeNikki'' fangames out there. It stars a girl named Urotsuki who, much like Madotsuki, has really, really messed up dreams. Notable for being outright huge in comparison to even the first ''Yume Nikki'', and there's still lots and lots planned.

The game can be downloaded [[https://www.yume.wiki/2kki/Downloads here]] and updates very frequently. Additionally, the game may be played [[https://ynoproject.net/2kki/ online]] with added social functionality and progression systems.
----
!!This game provides examples of:

* AbsurdlySpaciousSewer:
** The [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Sewers]] mainly consists of a small maze of interconnected pathways on the water, with the tall pipes in the background and the long flight of stairs to the area hinting at its large size.
** The Abandoned Factory is an even more massive sewer with sewer gates and other sights aplenty.
* AcidTripDimension: Because the game is all about dreams, and anything can occur in them, you're bound to encounter one of these soon enough. One example is Lovesick World, an area with radiant objects and creatures in extraordinarily weird shapes, all set against a pitch-black background.
* AmazingTechnicolorPopulation: A lot of the characters in the game are vibrantly colored, especially in already colorful worlds such as Saturated Eyeball Zone and Neon City.
* AmbiguousGenderIdentity: Urotsuki's Dream Apartments has a blue boy in one of the rooms. If you use the Invisible effect, the boy looks around and then transforms into a girl with orange hair. If you use the Glasses effect, the kid turns into the girl and runs away in fright.
* AmusementParkOfDoom: The Underwater Amusement Park is a large theme park with various strange attractions such as a room full of smilingfaces, but most of it is just somewhat ''off'' more than being directly threatening - save for the Clown Dungeon - due to the lack of characters around.
* AndYourRewardIsClothes: Completing Plated Snow Country and Wavy Up will unlock clothes in the Dressing Room.
* ArcNumber: Certain worlds made by map author Kontentsu have the arc number of 28.
* ArtCourse: The Graffiti Maze, most of which seems to come out of drawings and paintings.
* ArtEvolution: While many of the older worlds are pleasant to look at (except when being disturbing), they are much more simple in design compared to the more detailed worlds that gave rise circa 2013, which often border on SceneryPorn.
* ArtificialLimbs: Like with Yume Nikki, a number of effects replace Urotsuki's head with various objects. For Urotsuki, these are the Telephone, Eyeball Bomb, Grave, Crossing and Tissue Box effects.
* AttackOfThe50FootWhatever:
** By eating one of the cheeses in the Block Zone (specifically the one in the TabletopGame/TicTacToe area), Urotsuki will then appear as a ginormous version (large enough to kick over/trample larger buildings) of herself in a "miniature" city, where she then can (and will) trample buildings and wreak massive havoc within said city, plus it even gives you a [[http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/yume2kki/images/0/08/Pc_yumegamen_03-80.png wallpaper]] for doing so.
** There is also an event in Square-Square World where you may encounter a giant (nicknamed "The Colossus of Rhomb"), who will wake you up if you manage to see it.
* BadGuyBar: In the world where you get the Trombone Effect. The bar is practically filled with every chaser from the game and pulling the chainsaw on any of them will bring you to a secluded area. It's only accessible if you equip the Stretch Effect.
* BearsAreBadNews: Teddy Bear Land, which is full of cardboard teddy bears either covered in blood, mutated or both.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: In some worlds, there are fair-skinned women with black hats and dresses who look like the Shadow Lady chasers that appear in many areas. They appear to be harmless at first, as they don't attack or interact with you as with most non-Chaser [=NPCs=]. However, if you [[VideoGameCrueltyPotential chainsaw one of them]], she'll instantly [[VideoGameCrueltyPunishment turn into a Shadow Lady]] and force you to run away.
* BlackoutBasement: Relatively common. Examples include the Dark Museum, an area normally in total darkness (unless you equip the Lantern effect, producing a flashlight) where you find the Glasses Effect, and the Dark Warehouse, a [[ProceduralGeneration procedurally-generated]] dark maze.
* BlobMonster: Several instances:
** The most notable one is in the hotel in Japan Town, where you may turn into a sluggish blob-like creature resembling [[VideoGame/YumeNikki Uboa]] if you pass too much time in the hot springs.
** There is also a Chaser with this design that can be found in some areas.
* BodyHorror: Expected in this type of game. Some notable examples include:
** The Marginal Vivid Worker, which can grant you an effect that makes you resemble the creature, becoming pale, bow-legged, and bleeding.
** If you stay in the hotel hot springs too long, you'll turn into a hideous black, white, and red blob-like creature that can barely move.
* BoringButPractical: The [[http://yume2kki.wikia.com/wiki/Gray_Road Gray Road]] is far from the most interesting location in the game, but it serves as a useful hub area for many deeper locations with wallpapers and Effects.
* BuildLikeAnEgyptian: There is a pyramid in the Hourglass Desert, which features long and winding stairs that connect to create a sort of maze.
* CallASmeerpARabbit: The Garden World's daytime area has green things called dogs. They bark like dogs, but otherwise are not dogs at all.
* CartoonCreature: The Marginal Vivid Worker, a multi-headed, multi-armed white creature with bleeding eyes. Many other [=NPCs=] are like this too.
* CatapultNightmare: Exceptionally scary events, including ones that would be fatal in real life, will startle Urotsuki awake.
* ChainsawGood: Urotsuki's weapon of choice. The GALAXY Town area features an NPC with a HockeyMaskAndChainsaw of her own that will attack if Urotsuki pulls out her chainsaw.
* ChristmasEpisode: There's a small Christmas-themed area where you can obtain an extra minigame.
* CircusOfFear: Where the [[spoiler:{{Monster Clown}}s lure children to their deaths.]] There's possibly a few of them depending on what you call a circus, each with their own unique stylings. Some are quite expansive.
* CoolBike: Urotsuki's preferred method of travel is a motorcycle. She can even pop a wheelie on it.
* CosmeticAward:
** Averted in the case of the wallpapers. You might think they're just funny little cosmetic awards, but [[spoiler:Ending #4 is unlocked when you have 95% of them.]]
** Actually averted in the case of the effects, as every single one seems to either serve a purpose, get a reaction from at least one [=NPC=], allow access to otherwise inaccessible areas, and so on. Some can actually directly lead to gaining other effects.
** The later-introduced collectable menu themes as well, since their only purpose is to give your menu a different appearance.
* CrapsaccharineWorld: A few worlds have a cutesy appearance but become more frightening the further you explore.
** Pastel Sky Park is exactly what it seems on the surface-- a cute pastel-colored FluffyCloudHeaven. Equipping the Glasses, Eyeball Bomb or Marginal effects will show the area's true form: [[spoiler:the clouds turn red and the cute [=NPCs=] grow eyeballs on their heads.]] The only hint of this world's true nature beforehand is that the teleporter turns from a cute blob with a face to a red eye when Urotsuki approaches.
** Fantasy Isle is a pastel collection of islands filled with cute smiling satyr [=NPCs.=] When you cross the bridge to get to the next island, [[spoiler:the corpses of the [=NPCs=] are scattered across the ground and you discover that a bunch of weird horse-like creatures have been imprisoning the satyrs for unknown reasons.]]
** Board Game Islands is a lovely ''VideoGame/EarthBound1994''-inspired world with peppy music and cute characters. [[spoiler: If you use the Dice effect and randomly roll the red eye, things ''instantly'' change as the colors turn red and black and eyes appear ''everywhere''. Not to mention that this event can randomly teleport you to an island with the creepy-looking "King Fuun", or that you can trigger an event within the event that involves a creepy FACE-like mask trapping Urotsuki inside itself.]]
* CreepyDoll: There is a small faceless doll inside of the tents in The Circus. It seems conspicious enough at first, but when you interact with it, a door opening sound will be heard as the screen turns black, and there will be a clown that wasn't in the room before...
* CrueltyIsTheOnlyOption: There are some instances in the game where you have to kill [=NPCs=] to get past them, and one case in particular in which it's required for an effect. Also, you can't interact with Aoshiru [[spoiler:without killing him.]]
* DarkerAndEdgier: While for the most part the game is LighterAndSofter than Yume Nikki there are points in the game where it can be scarier than the original game's horror moments.
* DarkReprise: The main theme for the Underwater Amusement Park is a jolly, circus-like tune. If you access the Lonely Urotsuki event in the same area, a darker, more melancholic version of the piece will play as you see a scene of Urotsuki as a child, being completely alone in the center of a path and ignored by shadowy passerby.
* DebugRoom: There is one which can only be entered by accessing Debug Mode to clip through walls and end up in the area.
* DeliberatelyMonochrome: Many, many worlds lack colors besides those that are monochrome, most notably Monochrome Feudal Japan, an absolutely massive world which houses the Gakuran effect. A lot of these worlds are tributes to ''VideoGame/YumeNikki'''s White Desert.
* DenserAndWackier: The bike is replaced by a motorcycle and the knife is replaced with a chainsaw. Many of the [=NPCs=] aren't silent and creepy like the ones in the first game, either. Some will dance if interacted with, one has a pet telephone, and one's a bartender that will serve you drinks[[spoiler: until you actually pass out.]]
* DependingOnTheArtist: The Wallpapers are all made by different artists, so everyone has their own interpretation of the characters they draw.
* DevelopersForesight: Urotsuki cannot place tissues on the ground in the Dark Warehouse because it's procedurally generated.
* DevelopersRoom: You may gain access to a developer room by [[spoiler:unlocking the first four endings, which will cause a present to appear in the real world with a key to the room]]. Inside it, you may change the music that plays inside, change your walking speed, meet {{Author Avatar}}s that represent some developers, and even play a slot machine game.
* DreamLand: A massive amount of worlds are present in Urotsuki's dreams due to the game being updated constantly.
* DreamPeople: Since the game takes place in dreams, practically all of the characters except Urotsuki fall under this.
* DualWielding: Not in the conventional sense, but certain effects can be combined. For example, combining the Haniwa and Cake effects turns Urotsuki into a gingerbread cookie, while combining the Twintails and Glasses effects makes Urotsuki do a BadassArmfold.
* EarlyInstallmentWeirdness: In very early versions of the game, you played as a boy in a grey hoodie in a room much different to Urotsuki's, and the dream worlds were much smaller and of lesser quantities. When Urotsuki was finally introduced as the protagonist, the worlds were still sparse, and it took a while for more of them to appear. Theater World also was accessible from the Nexus until it was replaced with the Cipher Keyboard.
* EasterEgg: Holding right and shift while starting a new game unlocks Time Trial Mode, a speedrun mode where you try to beat the game as fast as possible. Saving is disabled while in this mode.
* EverythingsBetterWithRainbows: The Rainbow effect makes Urotsuki rainbow-colored. It can also produce rainbows in rainy areas when used, among other uses.
* ExactProgressBar: You can check your percentages of effects, wallpapers, etc. on Urotsuki's computer.
* EyesAlwaysShut: Much like Madotsuki from ''VideoGame/YumeNikki'', Urotsuki always has her eyes closed. This trope doesn't apply to certain wallpapers or effects where her eyes are open, or at least partially so.
* EyesDoNotBelongThere:
** Megusuriuri's head is filled with eyes in unusual areas, and his hands might have them, too. Unlike many examples of this trope, he is neither scary nor malevolent.
** For a more frightening example, the Marginal Vivid Worker appears to have multiple eyes in places where they shouldn't be.
* FacelessEye: The Eyebomb Effect and the people in the Road Maze only have a single eye.
* FanSequel: It's one to ''VideoGame/YumeNikki'', and a notable one at that, since it's still being updated to this day.
* TheFerryman: You can find a shadowy figure on a boat in The Docks. If you interact with him, he will take you to the Realistic Beach, and vice versa.
* {{Flight}}: The space suit and fairy effects provide this, which allows Urotsuki to cross gaps and other areas marked as unobstructed air.
* FlyingSaucer: A giant UFO randomly appears in a building in the Broken Faces Area. [[spoiler:If you enter it and pick the apple on the control screen, you will find yourself on the path to the Red Riding Hood Effect.]] Sadly, as of version 0.103i, the interior of the UFO cannot be accessed and it will simply drop Urotsuki in 1 of 3 different areas: Fairy Tale Woods, Broken Faces Area, and The Apartments with the Apartments's zebra crossing area replacing the White Fern World. To change between worlds all Urotsuki needs to do is simply to interact with the UFO again.
* FlyingSeafoodSpecial: The area that gives you the Spacesuit Effect has lots of fish floating around in the background.
* FourIsDeath: Two chasers in the Lamp Passage will only appear if your body count is 444 or higher.
* FountainOfYouth: Somewhat. The Child Effect de-ages Urotsuki into a kid.
* FungusHumongous: One of the nexus worlds is a world with lots and lots of mushrooms all about.
* GameWithinAGame: Urotsuki's console contains lots of different games to play.
** Red Blue Yellow, a shooter where you must match colors.
** Wavy Up, a short horror game about a girl trapped in an office building.
** Plated Snow Country, a game where a girl named Itetsuki must collect a bunch of snow-related items to save her friend.
** The Kura Puzzles, a collection of sliding block puzzles that can be unlocked by visiting certain places in the dream world.
** FUJI, a NASU-like game unlocked by giving a present to a girl in Christmas World.
** And finally there's Gimmick Runner, an unfinished ''VideoGame/LodeRunner''-like game.
* GardenOfEvil: In one part of the Graffiti Maze, you will come across a painted garden, with the red textures of the "roots", the slightly ominous music, and especially the hanged girl hinting at something more sinister.
* GenderBender: The boy effect changes Urotsuki's gender.
* GiantSpider: A giant green spider is waiting for Urotsuki in the Fairy Tale Path.
* GigglingVillain: Can be heard in certain places of the game, most (in)famously with the clowns who chase you down and Smile-San, who doesn't do anything outright threatening but is a menacing, constantly laughing figure.
* GirlishPigtails: The Twintail effect makes Urotsuki look more girly. A currently unused sprite sheet suggests it may be used as PrehensileHair in later versions.
* GirlWithPsychoWeapon: Urotsuki looks friendly and, to some, cute - but her weapon is a chainsaw.
* GogglesDoSomethingUnusual: The glasses effect tends to make invisible things visible.
* GoodGuyBar: A few, ranging in style from [[CoolestClubEver the Cyber Bar]] to a low-class dive under Japan Town. Only the Japan Town bar will actually get Urotsuki drunk.
* GottaCatchThemAll:
** Wallpapers. There are 650 in total, each one of them with their own unlock method.
** The 36 effects also serve this purpose, in tradition to ''VideoGame/YumeNikki''. Collecting them all will [[spoiler:grant you access to the endings.]]
** Kura Puzzles can be unlocked in similar methods to wallpapers. You may play a slider puzzle MiniGame with each puzzle you have collected on the Console.
** Later versions added various menu themes you could collect, which sometimes appear as eggs and change the appearance of your menu.
* GrowsOnTrees: A "farmer" NPC in Farm World will show a speech bubble with one of three plants when you interact with him: a Japanese maple leaf, a chili pepper, or a slice of pizza. These all grow on trees in the same area.
* GuideDangIt: [[MindScrew As not a lot follows logical sense in the dream world]], expect players to mindlessly try every effect on every new NPC they meet in the hopes of getting some response. But it gets worse than that:
** One area can only be accessed by flipping a switch in one room, traveling to another room, and then using the glasses effect to reveal a secret path.
** Another secret path is unlocked by entering the KonamiCode by entering tunnels and interacting with statues.
** A submarine can only be entered by going to a specific point on the map and traveling back and forth until the hatch opens.
** Getting the [[UnusualEars Rabbit Ears]] effect involves performing a fairly long series of tasks in a specific order. Of course, no help is given.
** Voxel Island, one of the deepest locations in the game, has some bizarre conditions to getting to it, one depending on ''Nexus color'', the other dependent on [[Catch22Dilemma not having the Drum effect with you despite needing the Drum effect to get to the Silhouette Complex.]]
** The Red Strings Maze's solution isn't exactly made apparent. [[spoiler:What the game doesn't tell you when navigating is that you must walk around until you loop back to the entrance, then go the opposite of the way you came. One of the doors will unlock, allowing you to proceed to the next area.]]
** The secret to navigating Dream Pool is only given via environmental hints that a player might discard as just extraneous scenery.
* HalfTheManHeUsedToBe: Urotsuki can be cut in half in a room in her dream apartments. Played entirely for humor, as she can still walk around and there's no blood or gore associated with it.
* HeartbeatSoundtrack: You can hear heartbeats in Valentine World and Heart World, the latter of which gradually speeds up before repeating itself.
* {{Hikikomori}}: Urotsuki, in tradition to the original game, lives alone in an apartment. [[spoiler:The endings often avert this, though.]]
* HowlOfSorrow: The [=NPCs=] in the [[WorldOfChaos Graveyard World]] let one out when killed.
* ICantReachIt: Urotsuki would refuse to swim across a body of water, even though she has no problems going underwater or in a hot spring.
* ImprovisedWeapon: Many [=NPCs=] can be killed with the lantern effect. [[BlobMonster In fact, some NPCS can only be killed this way.]]
* IncrediblyObviousBug: One event involves Urotsuki [[ItMakesSenseInContext killing a phone and then replacing it by using the Telephone effect]]. This is even required, as it gets you the Twintail effect.
* InstantBandages: The Cripple Effect, which has Urotsuki's arm put in a sling.
* {{Invisibility}}: An effect with two states: barely visible, and completely invisible except for shoes. This will allow Urotsuki to bypass most chasers with ease.
* JumpScare:
** In one area, there's a pair of pillars that represents a doorway to an area that instantly transports you to an area with much more tense music and things running around extremely fast. There's no danger in this area, but the sudden change is enough to shock.
** There's a chance that if you turn on the TV in Urotsuki's fake room, you will be greeted by basically [[VillainTeamUp all the chasers in the game]] with no place to escape. [[spoiler: Though there's always the Eyeball Bomb Effect to handle that.]]
** If you approach the doll in the circus tent, the screen will turn black, a door will open, and a clown will suddenly appear in the room.
** In the road to the Apartments, there is a girl under some lampposts. In a direct ShoutOut to ''VideoGame/YumeNikki'''s Monoe, interacting with her will cause an image of her to quickly appear on the screen with a noise before she vanishes. In previous versions of the game, this "Lamppost Girl" was instead an eyeless boy who carried out the same action.
* JungleJapes: The Tropical Jungle, located behind the Grand Scientific Museum, contains lush, colorful foliage, towering trees, and even what looks like a dinosaur with a spiral neck.
* KilledOffForReal:
** [[spoiler: In the ending where Urotsuki leaves her house, Aoshiru's not present.]]
** In a straighter example, if you kill Painter-kun, he does not respawn. Same goes for the eyeball Masada and the box girl [[spoiler:although you can't go back to check.]]
*** Subverted for Painter-Kun in an unusual way: Version 0.106c revived him in all existing saves that were created prior to updating to this version. If he was killed after updating then he stayed dead.
* KillerRabbit: A seemingly harmless lamb beheads Urotsuki if you try to kill it.
* KillItWithFire: The Lantern Effect could be used to burn [=NPCs=] that are blocking passageways.
* KonamiCode: [[spoiler:There is a dark room with two statues and four exits, that when interacted with in the Konami Code, leads to a tribal village. (The man represents B, the woman represents A.)]]
* KungFuProofMook: The blobs in the Sky Kingdom can't be chainsawed. They have to be burned with the Lantern instead.
* LetsDuet: If you interact with Elvis Masada while equipping the Trombone Effect, an instrumental duet will follow.
* LevelAte:
** The Chocolate World, which is comprised of chocolate bars, chocolate fountains, and pretty much anything else made of chocolate.
** The Pancake World, in which pancake platforms are connected by giant forks to form a maze.
* LevelInTheClouds:
** The Sea of Clouds is, as its name suggests, a land of solid clouds in the air.
** Cotton Candy Haven is a combination of this and LevelAte, being an area of clouds made of cotton candy and other sweets.
* LevelsTakeFlight: In a similar vein to ''VideoGame/YumeNikki'''s Witch event, Urotsuki can fly in a plane in the Rooftop area, which brings her to a separate sub-area where you can control the plane.
* LighterAndSofter: It's still as bizarre as ''VideoGame/YumeNikki'', but its atmosphere is generally less creepy and it's not as depressing. [[NightmareFuel/Yume2kki Most of the time.]]
* LockedInTheDungeon: In the AmusementParkOfDoom. The trip down there is one long Fridge Horror moment. And the {{Monster Clown}}s lock the doors behind you. There are already people locked inside before you enter, with children being visible in the dungeon's cages.
* MacroZone: The Toy World becomes this once you eat one of the cheeses in it, which shrinks you and makes the entire area giant. Hilariously enough, another cheese will '''[[InvertedTrope invert]]''' this, and make you a giant in a tiny city.
* TheMaze: Quite a few, most notably a first-person one.
** There is also the [[WombLevel Intestines Maze]], which you need to navigate in order to access certain areas. There are many portals accessible in the maze, as well as a few chasers roaming around.
** Though not in the literal sense, some of the larger worlds, like Monochrome Feudal Japan, can count as a maze, due to being humongous in size and difficult to navigate.
* MiniGame: Urotsuki has several games on her console. She can even unlock an extra one.
* TheMirrorShowsYourTrueSelf: There is a window in the underwater maps that might hint on Urotsuki's life.
* MirrorWorld: There are several examples of worlds, including Dream Mars and Dream Venus (and the Day & Night Towers as a singular world) that are mirror versions of each other which can be traversed from one another.
* MoneyForNothing: Money is somewhat more useful than in Yume Nikki, as it can be used to buy, for example, balloons at the amusement park, or alcohol at the bar.
* MoneySpider: Most of the [=NPCs=] could be killed for money, though they [[RandomlyDrops drop at random]].
* MonsterClown: Some of the enemies in the game take the form of this. They are some of the most recurring foes in the game next to the Shadow Ladies.
* MultipleEndings: Several, most of them highly contradictory and [[GainaxEnding Gainax-y]].
** One has [[spoiler:Urotsuki look like she's about to mirror VideoGame/YumeNikki's ending, only to ditch the mini stairway at the last second, and leave her room. The credits show her peacefully biking]].
** Another has her [[spoiler:actually make the jump....but she turns out to have been a prize in a UFO Catcher (prize grabber) machine....[[GainaxEnding yeah]]. ]]
** The third has her [[spoiler:pinch herself awake while 'awake' in the real world. She wakes up yet again, and is on the floor with a pile of books. Implying the whole thing was a literature-inspired dream-within-a-dream.]] All of these have different ending conditions, of course.
** The fourth has [[spoiler:her setting up the staircase, and then....a train pulls up to her balcony, and a black creature onboard beckons her on to the train, which then departs.]] [[GainaxEnding Ehhh?]]
** Another has [[spoiler:the strange implication that Urotsuki's room is infected with some kind of invisible ''something'' that turns Urotsuki into a monster... [[GainaxEnding maybe?]]]]
** There are also a couple false endings you can encounter through random chance that just make things more complex.
* NightmareFuelColoringBook: One of the images on Urotsuki's dream TV is a picture of Urotsuki standing in a grassy field with two other people. Half a second after seeing the image on TV, the field is set alight and the other two people have been scribbled out.
* NinjaPirateZombieRobot: Some of the stuff in the game can be described in this manner. For example:
** MonsterClown Snake Women.
** Wolf Biker Girl.
* NonHumanHead: Urotsuki can dream her own into the form of a telephone, a box of tissues, and [[EyeScream a bomb with an eye]], each with different effects.
* NoodlePeople: The Tall Effect turns Urotsuki tall and thin, in addition to the [=NPCs=] that display this trope.
* NumberOfTheBeast: The computer (in Urotsuki's dreams) says [[DoubleTake 6:66]].
* OldSaveBonus: If the game detects an older save, it will update it as well as possible to avoid problems with things not existing, being changed, and so on. So no having to get everything again/abusing the debug room.
* OurFairiesAreDifferent: The Fairy effect is of the "Disney" variety.
* PalmTreePanic: There are several beach areas in the game, including the Realistic Beach, which is made of real-life photographs, and the Dream Beach, which actually has a few palm trees.
* PerpetualBeta: ''Yume 2kki'' has been in development for several years now, with updates coming out irregularly every few months, sometimes much faster. There is no sign that it is nearing completion. Given the nature of the gameplay and the number of contributors, there's also no need for it to.
* ThePianoPlayer:
** Elvis Masada, who plays a tune if you interact with him. Interacting with him using the Trombone effect will start a [[LetsDuet smooth jazz duet]].
** There is also a white-haired piano player in the Picture Book area. If you kill her, the area will turn dark, and the piano loop in the background will be replaced with a more depressing one. She also appears in the Innocent Dream; interacting with her there will [[spoiler:cause Urotsuki to undergo an out-of-body experience that sends her to the Fantasy Library]].
* PortalPainting: The Art Gallery is filled with paintings, several of which will transport Urotsuki elsewhere if she interacts with them.
* RandomlyDrops: Money is still something you get from randomly killing things. If you have enough, you can allow Urotsuki to go to a bar and get drunk.
* RandomEvent:
** The "Bleak Future" / "Glitch Ending" event has a whopping 1/64 chance of triggering when you sleep in the bed in the replica of Urotsuki's bedroom in the Dream Apartments. Have fun!
** There's a special place you can rarely go when you wake up from the dream - it's a ''1/818'' chance. Yes, ''really''. It used to be easier to activate but the developers wanted it to be more special.
** "It Came From Behind", the huge shadowy creature that floats across the screen in Neon City, has a 1/2500 chance of appearing. This makes its appearance even more [[JumpScare startling]], since the low encounter rate makes it difficult to tell if the creature will appear or not.
* {{Retraux}}: Monochrome GB World takes the appearance of a UsefulNotes/GameBoy game. Even the menus change.
* SceneryGorn: Erratic Pillar Lands is filled with massive, twisted pillars and various debris. The scope is awe-inspiring.
** A hidden subarea in Red Streetlight World has masses of streetlights that have been warped into the shapes of {{EldritchAbomination}}s.
* SceneryPorn: A lot of the worlds in the game, are ''very'' detailed and aesthetically pleasing to look at. Special mention goes to the worlds made by [[https://yume2kki.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Wataru Wataru]] and [[https://yume2kki.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Mosenite Mosenite]], which have lots of lush landscapes to traverse. [[note]]Though a few of Wataru's worlds, like Overgrown City, may fall under SceneryGorn due to having very bleak and abandoned appearances.[[/note]] After those worlds were published, we had creators such as [[https://yume2kki.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Qxy qxy]] and [[https://yume2kki.fandom.com/wiki/Category:R%C3%ADo Río]] making very beautiful maps, too, with many being even more detailed than the maps of the authors above due to them being made later. To list every single map that falls under this trope would take up a large portion of this page.
* SchoolSwimsuit: There's a room that allows you to change into one of these.
* SeaMonster: A massive sea monster obscured by shadows appears in the Neon Sea. It's harmless, though, and it simply floats across the screen without doing much of anything.
* SensoryAbuse: The removed TV channel features flashing lights and loud, garbled static.
* SequelEscalation: While not a "true" sequel per se, Yume 2kki takes all of the content in ''VideoGame/YumeNikki'' and amplifies it to the max.
* ShiftingSandLand: There are quite a few, including the Hourglass Desert, filled with sand dunes and lots of hourglasses as its name implies, and the Tan Desert, a vast expanse of sand with a spiral puzzle.
* ShoutOut:
** There's a room in the Apartment Complex where you can try on outfits belonging to the protagonists of other Yume Nikki fangames.
** Using the Boy effect, Urotsuki can use various bathroom spots. [[Literature/{{It}} Almost always this will spawn a monster clown in the main bathroom.]]
** If you interact with a blank window after moving through the Never-Ending Hallway long enough, you'll encounter a replica of [[VideoGame/YumeNikki Madotsuki's room]] if it were located in [[VideoGame/EarthBound1994 Moonside]].
** The Highway area has the Neon Highway, which has a similar neon aesthetic and surreal atmosphere to Moonside. A shop located nearby also has a [[VideoGame/EarthBound1994 Pencil Statue and Eraser Statue]] in the back.
** There are various Yume Nikki references, lots of characters and environments designed to resemble the original areas. Maybe Urotsuki is a fan?
** Oni Musume looks an awful lot like [[Franchise/TouhouProject Remilia Scarlet]], except with pigtails and bows.
** There's an NPC that is practically Sachiko from ''VideoGame/CorpseParty''.
** Usamimi looks kinda like [[Franchise/{{Digimon}} Koromon]], except with blood from his eyes.
** Supuraito looked like a caged [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda Navi]].
** A [[http://yume2kki.wikia.com/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_World previously removed]] area used sprites from the [[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire GBA Pokémon games]].
** Similarly, the cave in Erratic Pillar Lands seems to have its tileset entirely lifted from the Cave of Origin in VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire.
** Using different effects in Word World will change the words on the ground. Using the Cake effect near the word "Case" will change it to "[[VideoGame/{{Portal}} The Cake is a Lie]]".
** There is a lush forest area in the game called [[VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry2DiddysKongQuest Forest Interlude]].
** The FC Caverns have some ''VideoGame/{{VVVVVV}}''-esque characters inside of it.
* ShrinesAndTemples:
** The Shinto Shrine is, as its name suggests, the typical Japanese Shinto shrine - except it's much larger on the inside. The Maple Shrine, which can be randomly accessed by walking through one of the Torii gates in front of the shrine or teleporting to the area is extremely similar, except for the maple leafs in the area and the large interior being replaced with a smaller maze.
** The Haniwa Temple isn't dedicated to any religion as far as it seems - instead, it dedicates itself to Haniwas, specifically those based on the small "dancing" terracotta figures.
* SlippySlideyIceWorld: There are a few ice worlds where ice physics don't apply, though this is [[JustifiedTrope justified]] since anything may occur in a dream:
** The Plated Snow County MiniGame places you in control of Icetsuki, who navigates icy paths surrounded by walls of snow.
** A less conventional example is the Ice Floe World; the ice only appears in large floating chunks, and the rest of the area is more of a starfield.
* SoundTest: The Music Room, accessible from the computer in Urostuki's real bedroom, allows you to listen to music from any world or event you've visited. [[spoiler:Unlike the mostly cosmetic backgrounds and menu themes, unlocking music is necessary for a couple of endings.]]
* SoundtrackDissonance:
** In the brightly colored Mushroom World, there is a warp to an alternate Mushroom World with much a much darker appearance, with bloodstained mushrooms, some of which have an eye for a cap. Both worlds have the same cheery music.
** There's also the [[BlackoutBasement Infinite Library]]. In the bedroom area that you access it from, a music box song starts playing, which sounds soothing at first. However, once you enter the Infinite Library, the mood suddenly changes to suspense with the same song still playing.
** Cheerful circus music plays in the decidedly cryptic High Priestess event, where you must chainsaw 6 closets while avoiding shadowy chasers.
* SouthOfTheBorder: The [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Dream Mexico]] area is a small area with adobe houses, a [[WeirdSun mustachioed sun]], and Mexican food a-plenty. Wandering ghostly {{Calacas}} and a GrimReaper standing ominously give it a Dia de los Muertos flair. [[spoiler: There's a coffin in the house next to the Grim Reaper, and Urotsuki can perform a DueToTheDead event there once per save file.]]
* SpaceZone: The aptly named [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Space.]] You may float around and venture to planets with lunar playgrounds, but you must wear your spacesuit at all times, because you'll fall out of the dream if you don't.
* SpookySilentLibrary:
** The Library, which isn't scary by itself but contains a lot of WordSaladHorror in the books.
** The Infinite Library, a dark and creepy library that has a Shadow Woman chasing after the player.
* SpringCoil: Urotsuki's legs turn into coils if you have the Spring Effect equipped. Bane Jack (the person you get the Spring Effect from) also has this, albeit having only one coil under his torso.
* SquashedFlat: The result of falling into the trap in the AmusementParkOfDoom's dungeon is Urotsuki being crushed by a pillar. Followed by suddenly waking up.
* StealthPun: The title. 2 in Japanese is pronounced "Ni", so in Japanese the title is "Yume '''Ni'''kki", [[VideoGame/YumeNikki which is the game it's based off.]]
* StoryBreadcrumbs: [[spoiler:After you complete Ending #1]], a mysterious door in the Nexus appears that takes you to a bunch of worlds that, when you put them together, seem to tell a story about another dreamer named ???-tsuki and a strange boy dubbed by fans as "The Liar".
* StylisticSuck:
** The Geometry World features crudely-drawn cyan doodles on top of a stock RPG Maker background.
** There is also a crudely-drawn JumpScare of a blonde-haired girl that appears in Channel 9 of the TV Room.
* SuperNotDrowningSkills : There are multiple underwater segments where Urotsuki can wander around without any air. [[AvertedTrope It is just a dream, of course.]]
* SurrealHorror: With all of the content in the game, Yume 2kki takes the amount of Surreal Horror present in ''VideoGame/YumeNikki'' up to eleven.
* SwissArmyWeapon: A number of functional effects serve more than one purpose. The fairy effect grants flight and allows Urotsuki to enter small openings. The lantern provides light and can be used to kill various [=NPCs=]. And of course, all effects cause [=NPCs=] to react in various ways, some more than others.
* TimedMission:
** Snowy Forest can only be explored for two minutes maximum before day breaks and Urotsuki wakes up. [[spoiler:But certain effects can stop or even ''reverse'' the timer.]]
** Spore Forest can only be explored for about 3 minutes and 40 seconds before the miasma gets too intense for Urotsuki to handle.
** Drowsy Forest takes it to the next level with its ''40-second'' time limit. If you fail to find the exit in time, Urotsuki wakes up in a strange version of her own bedroom. [[spoiler:However, there is a way to reset the time limit...]]
* ToyTime: [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Toy World]] features structures made of plastic building blocks, [[SlipperySkid slippery tangram tiles]], a tic-tac-toe game you can play with a Shadow Lady, and a toy train that will take Urotsuki to the very similar Wooden Block World.
* TrailOfBreadCrumbs: The tissue box effect serves this purpose, allowing Urotsuki to pull a tissue out of her head and place it on the ground.
* TrophyRoom: There is one accessible from Urotsuki's Dream Apartments/The Nexus where you may place your effects. Dropping all of the effects in this room is key to [[spoiler:getting some of the endings.]]
* UnderTheSea: Several areas are completely underwater. In these places, the Penguin effect will allow her to swim automatically and dash. A few areas, such as Star Ocean, outright require the Penguin or Spacesuit effects.
* UnexpectedGameplayChange:
** The Mini Maze uses a first-person perspective, and is the only world in the game with a LevelMapDisplay.
** The FC Caverns are a surprisingly sophisticated PlatformGame, in which effects unlock different abilities or alter movement physics. For example, the Twintails effect allows Urostuki to WallJump, while the Bike effect increases her movement speed but decreases her jump height.
* UnexpectedlyRealisticGameplay: Urotsuki cannot use the Eyeball Bomb underwater because it's an explosive.
* UnlockableContent:
** Various wallpapers for Urotsuki's computer as she gets to certain points/activates certain events, among other things.
** The version 0.119c update added a connection to Oil Puddle World from the Nexus, accessible via [[spoiler:getting Ending #1.]] This opens up access to a majority of author Kontentsu's worlds and their lore surrounding ???-tsuki and The Liar.
* VagueAge: Like [[VideoGame/YumeNikki Madotsuki]], Urotsuki's age isn't explicitly stated. However, this is [[DownplayedTrope downplayed]] with [[FountainOfYouth the Child effect]], which makes her noticeably younger. The significant difference between her child and default forms indicates that Urotsuki is at least on the verge of adolescence.
* VideoGameCaringPotential: One of the Snowy Forest's few inhabitants is a suicidal person. If you spend too long in the forest, they'll hang themselves, but if you [[TimedMission reach their location in time]] and use the Telephone effect next to them, they'll call for help and leave safely.
* VideoGameCrueltyPotential: Every single bit as present here as it is in Yume Nikki. There's also a number of events where Urotsuki can do some pretty mean things.
* VideoGameCrueltyPunishment:
** In Fairy Tale Woods, you can cause a person in a well to fall to their death by cutting a rope. Doing so will bar any other way out and get you chased by countless monsters until some come at you from the front, which forces you awake.
** There's also the sheep, who will chainsaw you if you attempt to chainsaw it.
** In the Japanese Ghost Village, if you kill the person who gives you the broken arm effect, the area becomes filled with the shadow ladies.
** In the forest area, if you hurt the sane Shadow Lady there, escape down the hole, and return, the forest will become filled with malevolent Shadow Ladies and will be dark.
** Killing Megusuriuri will cause the EldritchAbomination in one of his cabinets to fester and mutate his office and Box-chan. After seeing this, you can never enter the office or see Hakoko-chan again. [[spoiler:That is, unless you interact with the boy in the Bleak Future.]]
** In an area close to that, stabbing an eyed creature many times can transport you to a place with a giant head with a very hyperactive eye laughing, and you will wake up after a while there.
** If you chainsaw the [[MonsterClown clown]] in the building of the Guts World, it will mug you. If you don't have enough money, it will send you to the creepy head room as mentioned above.
** If you try to chainsaw the man in the fox mask, he will FlashStep behind you; he might counter attack and send you to an isolated area.
** Peeing on the wall in Japan Town will spawn a very fast clown in Marijuana Goddess World and a shadow lady in the already difficult Dark Warehouse.
** A now-removed event involved Urotsuki pulling a chainsaw on someone in the ice cream shop of GALAXY Town, only to be instantly shot and left to die by the citizens. This event was deemed too unnecessarily cruel and was taken out from the game.
*** There is an event that fits this criteria in the current GALAXY Town, though. If you use the chainsaw on the [[ChainsawGood chainsaw girl]], she'll counter attack and teleport you to a sealed-off room.
** If you chainsaw the large white rooted creature in Blood World, the music will grow more frantic and Scary Faces will chase you around, along with some ghosts slowing you down.
** Bothering the Mask Shop Owner too many times with the bell without buying anything will make her send monsters after Urotsuki when you try to leave the area and turn her into a mask.
* ViolationOfCommonSense: In the CircusOfFear dungeon-like area in the AmusementParkOfDoom, you have to first traverse a long corridor that contains hallways with a statue of a chaser in the middle of each. Even if you have no idea what is about to happen, you know it can't be good, [[OhCrap especially when you get to the end]]. Clowns stop you from leaving, though.
* WalkDontSwim: Since it's only a dream, Urotsuki simply walks like normal underwater unless you use the Penguin or Spacesuit effects.
* WeirdMoon: A yellow cycloptic moon appears in the Golden Pyramid Path.
* WeirdSun: At least two, including a red cyclops sun in Pastel Blue World which will remove your chainsaw if you attempt to use it on the lady near it, and another red cyclops sun in Dream Mexico with a mustache.
* WideOpenSandbox: Apart from [[GottaCatchThemAll finding all 36 Effects]], there is no explicit goal.
* WombLevel:
** One area in the game looks mostly organic and has things that vaguely resemble spines floating about.
** The Intestines Maze, as its name suggests, resembles the insides of an intestine.
* YourHeadAsplode: Whenever Urotsuki uses the Eyeball Bomb to return to the Nexus, her head, now taking the form of the bomb, will explode.
