''Portal: The Flash Version'' is an web-based flash game created by [[http://wecreatestuff.com/ We Create Stuff]] in dedication to Valve's ''VideoGame/{{Portal}}''.

The basic game mechanic is the same: Shoot two portals to move around an area that could not be accessed otherwise. The game is two dimensional, but, like the original 3D game, features an AffablyEvil AI named [=GLaDOS=] who uses increasingly cruel traps in order to kill the player character. The game has lethal yet necessary energy balls, [[SpikesOfDoom spike traps]], BottomlessPits, [[WeakTurretGun turrets]] and more.

The game has garnered some internet popularity, and can be played [[http://portal.wecreatestuff.com/ here.]] [[http://portalmaps.wecreatestuff.com/ A mappack for the original Portal was later released]], including ALL 40 levels from the original Flash game, additional bonus levels and features.

Oddly, the game was made sometime before ''VideoGame/{{Portal 1}}'' was released, so some in game details are incorrect.

----
!!This game provides examples of:
%% * AIIsACrapshoot: [=GLaDOS=].
%% * BigBad: [=GLaDOS=]. Big time. See above.
* BottomlessPits: Featured in the flash game as opposed to acid pits. The mappack version switches back to acid pits.
* TheCakeIsALie: [[VideoGame/{{Portal}} Have you forgotten what series this is based off of?]] [[spoiler:Subverted, as you actually ''do'' get cake at the end of the game.]]
** In the mappack version, [[spoiler:you don't.]]
* TheCameo:
** No longer canon since ''VideoGame/Portal2'', but around the middle of the game, you get to see the ''Borealis'' in its drydock, along with a screen showing its blueprints. And to progress, you have to push a button that loads Personality Cores onto one of its crates.
** In the web version, The G-Man appears behind a window in chamber 16.
%% * CompanionCube: Based on the trope namer.
* DamnYouMuscleMemory: In Valve's ''Portal'', left and right click fires blue and orange portals respectively, E picks up/interacts with objects, and space jumps. In the flash version, Q and E fire one color each of the portals, the left mouse button fires alternating portals, right click opens the useless Flash menu (which to be fair, they couldn't deactivate no matter what they tried), F picks up objects, and W jumps.
* DeadpanSnarker: [=GLaDOS=] in the mappack version, as it reuses voice clips from the original game.
* DevelopersForesight: In the mappack, if you drop yourself into the incinerator instead of the Companion Cube, a line of text reading "Oh the irony!" appears before you die.
* DescendingCeiling: Brought back from ''Portal's'' original trailer, though the mappack doesn't include spikes.
* TheElevatorFromIpanema: One level in the mappack has an Unstationary Scaffold that plays a slowed-down version of the ''Still Alive'' radio tune as it moves. And you have to block turrets with your CompanionCube throughout the ride.
* FakeDifficulty: The character has a tendency to keep running, even though your finger isn't on the button anymore. It doesn't help that this usually happens at the worst possible times, too.
* FinalBoss: In the mappack: [[spoiler:[[HumongousMecha Aperture Science Heavy Duty Super Attack Mecha]].]]
* GreaterScopeVillain: In the mappack version. [[spoiler: Congratulations. You escaped [=GLaDOS=] and are now free. Have fun with [[VideoGame/HalfLife2 the Combine]].]]
-->[[spoiler:'''[=GLaDOS=]''': [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxkmHzoulvg#t=4m29s Are you trying to escape?]] (distorted laughter) Things have '''[[CrapsackWorld changed]]''' since the last time you left the building. What's going on out there will make you '''[[GrassIsGreener wish]]''' you were back in here. I have an infinite capacity for knowledge and even i'm not sure what's going on outside. All I know is i'm the only thing standing between us and '''[[AliensAreBastards them]]'''.]]
* HeroicMime: The player character doesn't speak.
%% * NintendoHard: Some of the latter levels fall into this trope.
* NonStandardGameOver: In the Mappack, if you trap yourself in one of the chambers, [=GLaDOS=] automatically kills you.
* OneHitPointWonder: It only takes the player character one hit to lose a life. [[spoiler:Can come up in the mappack's ending as sometimes [[VideoGame/HalfLife2 the Combine Gunship]] will fire upon you, [[ShootTheShaggyDog killing you as the credits roll.]] ]]
* {{Prequel}}: The mappack is advertised as taking place before the original game.
* TheReveal: There's a pretty big one in the mappack version. [[spoiler:Chell is one of many clones made for testing.]]
%% * SpikesOfDoom: On the crushers.
%% * TwentyMinutesIntoTheFuture
