''Mari'''[[color:#0066ff:0]]''''' (2012) is a fan-made {{crossover}} between ''[[VideoGame/SuperMarioBros1 Super Mario Bros.]]'' and ''VideoGame/{{Portal}}'' created by German developer Maurice Guégan. The premise is simple: you're Mario, and you have a portal gun. You can play through the classic levels from the original {{UsefulNotes/NES}} game (but with portals!), try and solve the Aperture Science-themed puzzles based on ''Portal'' and ''Portal 2'', or even [[LevelEditor make your own levels]]. There's a CoOpMultiplayer mode too--up to four players can play simultaneously, much like in ''VideoGame/NewSuperMarioBrosWii''.

The game is available as a [[FreewareGames free download]] at [[http://stabyourself.net/mari0/ its homepage on Stabyourself.net]]. An updated version known as the SpecialEdition was in the works, but due to years of DevelopmentHell, it was cancelled with only a public beta in 2014 ever being released. In early 2018, development of a sequel based on ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros3'' was streamed on Website/{{Twitch}}, but with little news since then, [[{{Vaporware}} don't hold your breath]].
----
!!This game contains examples of:

* AscendedGlitch: The exit pipe the brings the player to the flagpole in 1-2 has an intentional non-solid tile in the upper left of the vertical pipe, in which the player can portal themselves up to it while big, slide through, and go down the first pipe in the WarpZone[[note]] In the game's coding, any Warp Zone pipe marked to transport the player to World 4 will instead send the player to the Minus World if the "Welcome to Warp Zone" text isn't on-screen[[/note]] to enter the MinusWorld. The player can also use the editor to clear a wall through the exit pipe and get to the Minus World easier.
* CoOpMultiplayer: 4-player simultaneous, and each player gets his/her own portal gun.
* {{Crossover}}: Not just ''Mario'' and ''Portal'', but it also has a ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'' mode and ''[[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Sonic Rainbooms]]'' too.
%% * DifficultButAwesome: Proper use of the Portal Gun is easy to screw up. That said, [[GameBreaker it's a Portal Gun in a game not designed for the Portal Gun]].
* DownloadableContent: A handful of mappacks are available, including ''[[VideoGame/SuperMarioBrosTheLostLevels The Lost Levels]]''. Thankfully you have the Portal Gun this time. Subverted in the 1.6 version since they are actually pre-packaged rather than downloaded (but the menu still lists them as DLC).
* DungeonBypass: In addition to the ones present in the original game, the portal gun allows you to creatively get around some obstacles. Use portals for a perfect 5000 flag catch every time, portal behind Bowser to hit the axe, portal ''Bowser behind you'' to do the same, and many more.
* EasyLevelTrick: [[InstantWinCondition Only one player needs to reach the goal to complete the level in a co-op game.]] This can be used to bypass several companion cube puzzles.
* GameMod: These appear from time to time on the forums, taking the form of additional map packs and major mods that add more items/enemies/objects to the game. Alesan's Entities is one of the more notable ones.
* HoistByHisOwnPetard: Hammer Bros. can be killed by their own hammers sent through portals. Humorously, this used to extend to the hammers of other Hammer Bros. as well; a pair of them often thinned themselves out when the one in back started throwing. This was patched in version 1.4.
* {{Knockback}}: An unlockable cheat has Mario ricochet behind himself whenever he shoots with the portal gun. Potential abuse of this can allow players to soar across levels, made much easier if combined with the cheat that allows slowing down time by using the mousewheel.
* KonamiCode: [[spoiler:Entering it at the title screen unlocks the cheats without having to complete the ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros1'' levels first.]]
%% * LevelEditor
* {{Medley}}: The map pack [[http://forum.stabyourself.net/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2923 ''SMB Extended'']], which combines both ''Super Mario Bros'' and ''The Lost Levels'' into one mappack. A mod only compatible with 1.6 must be used to run it.
%% * NintendoHard: Subverted for the original and ''The Lost Levels'', since the portal gun is pretty much a GameBreaker, though a few downloadable map packs play this trope straight.
* NostalgiaLevel:
** The entirety of the original ''Super Mario Bros.'' and its follow-up, ''[[VideoGame/SuperMarioBrosTheLostLevels The Lost Levels]]'', are available as default map packs (the latter in the "DLC" map pack).
** ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBrosSpecial'' was given a community-driven [[http://forum.stabyourself.net/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1364 port]] one month after ''[=Mari0=]'' officially launched.
%% * RatchetScrolling: Averted, even for the levels that otherwise look and act very much like ''VideoGame/SuperMarioBros1''.
* {{Retraux}}: 8-bit graphics, obviously, to duplicate the style of the original ''Super Mario Bros.'' Averted with the ''Portal'' objects and tiles, as they're more detailed.
* ShoutOut:
** The hats available include [[WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic Rainbow Dash's mane]] (it's possible to perform the Sonic Rainboom with one of the cheats enabled) and the eponymous striped top hat of ''Literature/TheCatInTheHat''. Many hats from ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2'' are also available.
** The six additional background colors in SE following the standard three (Sky, Water, and Black) are based on the coat colors of the Mane Six.
%% * SpecialEdition: Until it was canceled. Thankfully, it had a mostly-complete public beta.
%% * SuspendSave
* UntitledTitle: "The Untitled Game" mappack.
* VirtualPaperDoll: Mario's sprite is customizable and can be recolored however you like, and you can even give him a variety of silly hats, mostly from ''VideoGame/TeamFortress2''.
