''Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's Portable: The Battle of Aces'' is a FightingGame, developed by Witchcraft -- composed of the people who made ''VideoGame/WildArms'' -- and released for the Platform/PlaystationPortable by [[Creator/BandaiNamcoEntertainment Namco Bandai]] in 2010.

As the name suggests, it's based on the ''Franchise/LyricalNanoha'' franchise, specifically the second season ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaAs''. It is set in an AlternateTimeline where Reinforce was not deleted at the end of the series. Because of this, the corrupted defence program of the Book of Darkness soon returns, shedding "Dark Pieces" that take the form of {{Evil Knockoff}}s of the main cast. At the head of this clone army are the "Materials" -- three super-powerful clones of Nanoha, Fate and Hayate who have gained sentience.

A sequel, ''Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's Portable: The Gears of Destiny'', was released for PSP on December 22, 2011. It takes place three months after ''The Battle of Aces'', starting when [[OriginalGeneration two mysterious warriors]] arrive from the future. One of them is searching for the revived Materials, while the other is trying to stop her.

Meanwhile, the Materials [[DivergentCharacterEvolution have grown]] from the one-dimensional {{Omnicidal Maniac}}s they were in the first game and are searching for something called the "Unbreakable Dark", which seems to be linked to a whole new outbreak of Dark Pieces. Not only are these new Dark Pieces twisting time and space, pulling people from the past and future to the present age, but they are capable of copying long-dead people from the memories of the mages involved.

The Materials have become {{Breakout Character}}s, appearing as major ''and/or'' main characters in other media. They also get their own [[http://nanoha.wikia.com/wiki/Material_Girls.#Supplemental_materials manga]] ''Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A's Potable -- The Gears of Destiny -- Material Musume,'' a {{Yonkoma}} which takes place before the events of ''The Gears of Destiny''.

The Materials, Florian Sisters, and U-D, also appear in the third and fourth ''Lyrical Nanoha'' movies, titled ''Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaReflection'' and ''[[Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaDetonation Detonation]]'' respectively, which are loose adaptations of the ''Gears of Destiny'' storyline.

NOTE: Only general tropes for the series are listed here. For character-specific ones, check out the character sheets.

!!!''The Battle of Aces'' provides examples of:

* AdaptationalBadass: Zafira in his route. If you include the extra stages, he manages to defeat the Dark Pieces of Signum, Vita, Reinforce and himself, and all three Materials by his own. Don't forget that Zafira is the lowest ranked mage of the Wolkenritter, he lacks any devices and long-range spells.
* AlternateTimeline
* AutobotsRockOut: One of the possible final battle music is an electric guitar version of ''[[Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaAs A's]]'' OP [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpu-KCI5yKE Eternal Blaze.]]
* BeamSpam:
** Hayate and her counterpart Material-D have ranged attacks like this.
** Fate, her counterpart Material-L, and in particular Chrono have a faster rate of fire for their weakest range attacks then any other character.
** Let's not forget about Nanoha and her counterpart Material-S as well.
** Reinforce has one attack like this as well, but she can fire three beams at once.
* BigDamnHeroes: In Hayate's route, after Unison Hayate defeats Material-D, the Wolkenritter save the former from the latter and Signum kills Material-D in the process. This event is revealed to be canon in ''G.o.D.''.
* BreakingOut: Minigame available for DLC. A {{NSFW}} minigame.
* BreakMeter: Doubles as your ManaMeter. Be careful while {{Beam Spam}}ming.
* BreastAttack: Signum appears to elbow Reinforce right on her tits (complete with a spring sound) as an odd version of a DopeSlap while chewing her out for attempting a HeroicSacrifice.
* TheCameo: [=NachtWal=] appears in one of the first [=CGIs=].
* ChargedAttack: Several ranged attacks come with a slower, stronger form when you hold down their respective button.
* CounterAttack: Everyone has one at melee range. Zafira has one in ranged combat too.
* DemotedToExtra: Yuuno and Arf are not playable characters in this game, despite their more or less importance in ''A's'' -- they are not even in the shot that shows the other characters fighting [=NachtWal=]. While Arf is lucky enough to appear in four routes[[note]](Nanoha, Fate, Chrono, and Zafira, respectively)[[/note]], Yuuno only appears in Nanoha's route and has no CGI appearances.
* DisappearsIntoLight: The Dark Pieces after defeating them.
* DreamPeople: The non-Material Dark Pieces, which are copies of Nanoha and crew based on their memories, thoughts, and wishes during ''[[Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaAs A's]]''. They fade away upon losing.
* EvilTwin / PaletteSwap: The three Aces each get one.
** Hayate is opposed by Material-D, the Ruler of Darkness, whose Barrier Jacket has [[PaintItBlack dark grey]] where Hayate's is white, along with purple for the inner layer and shoes, as well as being platinum blonde-ish. She also lacks the original's hat.
** Nanoha is opposed by Material-S, the Starlight Destroyer, whose Barrier Jacket is mainly [[PaintItBlack black/dark purple]] and crimson, with Luciferion, her version of Raising Heart, being red with a blue crystal.
** Fate is opposed by Material-L, the Thunderblade Assailant, who has light blue hair instead of blonde, her Barrier Jacket has blue where Fate's was red and her version of Bardiche has a blue crystal.
* FightingGame
* FinalBoss: There is always a different FinalBoss in each character's story. Some of them are in the aftermath of the "Dark Piece Incident", but they are definitely {{Final Boss}}es, because they appear in the Final Stage.
** Material-S in Nanoha's route.
** Dark Piece Fate in Fate's route.
** Nanoha in Hayate's route.
** Fate in Signum's route.
** Reinforce in Vita's route.
** Dark Piece Vita in Shamal's route.
** Dark Piece Reinforce in Zafira's route.
** Material-D in Reinforce's route.
** Dark Piece Hayate in Chrono's route.
* GottaKillThemAll: The Dark Pieces.
* GratuitousEnglish: Raising Heart again. At one point, she says "Perhaps she is also Dark '''Peace'''" instead of "Perhaps she is also a Dark '''Piece'''".
* InSpiteOfANail: In the original Reinforce's ending in ''Battle of Aces'', [[spoiler:she and Hayate discuss how she can't maintain Hayate's magic anymore, and they'd have to create a new Unison Device. I.e. Zwei will exist in this AlternateContinuity too. The Wolkenritter also note late in Hayate's story mode that Hayate and Reinforce both know (but won't admit to each other) that Reinforce will fade away relatively soon]].
* InvulnerableAttack: Using Full Drive makes you invulnerable to any attack during its initial activation.
* LawOfChromaticSuperiority: Material-S's Barrier Jacket is mainly black and crimson compared to Nanoha's white and [[RhymesOnADime blue, and she's the stronger of the two.]]
* LastEpisodeThemeReprise: See AutobotsRockOut.
* LetsYouAndHimFight: Mostly instigated by Vita accidentally mistaking someone for a Dark Piece (the reason why Fate fights her in her route).
* LimitBreak: Full Drive Burst. It's also the only attack with its own animation.
** Nanoha's ''Starlight Breaker''.
** Fate's ''Jet Zanber''.
** Hayate's ''Ragnarök''.
** Signum's ''Sturmfalken''.
** Vita's ''Gigantschlag''.
** Shamal's Linker Core Removal technique.
** Zafira's ''Hagane no Kubiki''.
** Reinforce's ''Yaten no Ikazuchi''.
** Chrono's ''Eternal Coffin''.
** Stern's ''Luciferion Breaker''.
** Levi's ''Raijin Messatsu Kyokkōzan''.
** Dearche's ''Excalibur''.
* ManaMeter
* MatryoshkaObject: The Book of Darkness was really a smaller program written on an older [[LostTechnology Logia]] called The Book of Purple Sky. And the Book of Purple Sky was written on an OLDER program called the Examia/Eternal Ring; which was hosted by the Unbreakable Dark.
* MirrorMatch: Justified in Story Mode by the existence of the Dark Pieces, which are copies from the heroes based on their memories and wishes during the time of ''[[Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaAs A's]]''.
* [[MrExposition Ms. Exposition]]: Amy and Reinforce.
* [[SeanConneryIsAboutToShootYou Nanoha Is About To Shoot You]]: Look at the boxart.
* OriginalGeneration: The Materials, "Lord" Dearche, Stern the Destructor, and Levi the Slasher.
* OverlyLongName: "The Book of Darkness's Darkness Dark Piece Incident" was shortened into the "Dark Piece incident".
* PurposelyOverpowered: [[spoiler:Unison Reinforce (Reinforce with Hayate intentionally [[FusionDance Unisoning into her]])]], who you could only use at the final battle of [[spoiler:Reinforce]]'s story. She comes with all eighteen skills in the game where other characters could only use four, turning the normally powerful BigBad into an AnticlimaxBoss.
* SmokeShield: Used as a gameplay mechanic. Big attacks usually generate one of these on impact, and a canny player can exploit the concealment to pull off a counter-attack.
* SoundTest: Available in the Character Viewer under Archive.
* SprintMeter
* SuperMode: Full Drive, which temporarily gives you infinite mana and unlocks your LimitBreak. If you equip the Drive EX (Critical) skill, it will also increase your attack damage while active.
* SuperTitle64Advance: Gets Portable in the title for being in the PSP.
* TacticalRockPaperScissors: Attack beats Throw. Throw beats Counter. Counter beats Attack.
* TitleDrop: Fate's story path ends with her saying the title of her chapter ("When the cherry blossoms are in bloom") in response to Arf asking her when she will tell Lindy her decision regarding her offer to adopt her.
* VersusCharacterSplash: Not in story mode.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Lindy and Amy don't appear in Zafira's route.
* YouAreBetterThanYouThinkYouAre: Nanoha says this when Arf suggests that Fate might have turned out like [[AxCrazy Material]]-[[EvilCounterpart L]] if she hadn't met Nanoha, saying that Fate is a stronger person than that and with Arf, she is not alone. Both Fate and Arf are quite grateful to hear this.

----
[[folder:The Gears of Destiny]]
!!!''The Gears of Destiny'' additionally provides examples of:

* AIBreaker: Zafira, because his moveset has fortunately become better like some others. The easiest way to win: just keep pushing the Circle Button. His Grab Move has a good range and you can start with it as your first move. His uncharged long range Circle-attack allows him to rush towards the enemy. Regardless if the enemy use their shield or not, the Grab Move ignores the shield. Repeating this and you win a perfect victory. This strategy is very useful against the SNKBoss in ''G.o.D.''
* AdaptationalBadass: While most of the characters are just as badass as they are in canon, Yuuno's surprising combat ability comes as a shock. During his story mode, he manages to not only defeat the Liese Twins, but also Material-S, Vivio and Amita, not bad for someone who was DemotedToExtra in the series proper.
* AndZoidberg: [[Manga/MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce Thoma's reveal for the game]] came off as this, considering how much more of the page Vivio and Einhard took up.
** When Nanoha replies to [[SpellMyNameWithAnS Rynith/Linith]] that Fate and Arf are fine, Nanoha remembers that [[EmpathicWeapon Bardiche]] is fine, too.
* {{Back In The Saddle}}: The Liese Twins got pulled out of Retirement by Letty to deal with the Dark Pieces. However, see TeethClenchedTeamwork
* BigBadEnsemble: [[AvertedTrope Averted]]. First, Dearche, who is introduced as the BigBad, is killed by U-D, the real BigBad, and when Dearche is regenerating, Stern has persuaded her to ally with the TSAB, so the Materials became [[AntiHero Anti-Heroines]] and Dearche was [[BigBadWannabe never really a Big Bad]] to begin with. And later, when the Dark Piece of Presea found out that a TimeMachine existed, she didn't become a second BigBad because she was immediately fought by Linith and both of them disappeared in the end.
* ButNowIMustGo: Everyone returns to their own time period in the end. [[spoiler:And the Materials and U-D come along with the Florian Sisters to future Eltria. AndTheAdventureContinues for them, because they have their hands full helping restore the planet and fighting monsters. (It ''is'' [[VideoGame/WildArms Filgaia, after all.]])]]
* TheCameo:
** In Thoma's imagine shot, the ''[[Manga/MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce Force]]'' versions of Nanoha, Fate, Hayate, Signum and [[Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaStrikers Subaru]], as well as the rest of the Nakajima family, Mariel (who appears as a minor character in the game), Isis, Steed, ''and'' the Hückebein family are seen together.
** The epilogue of the Final Sequence shows the ''[=ViVid=]'' versions of Nanoha and Fate, then Isis and the ''Force'' versions of Hayate and Vita.
* CastHerd: There are two units who fight U-D in the final battle. The first unit fights her in the first round, the second unit fights her in the second round where she has already [[TurnsRed Turned Red]].
** The first group includes Chrono, Signum, Vita, Shamal, Zafira, Einhard and Kyrie.
** The second group includes Nanoha, Fate, Unison Hayate, Vivio, Thoma, Amitie and [[spoiler:"Lord" Dearche TRINITY]].
** Before this gathering, there are several smaller groups. Nanoha with Yuuno; Fate with Arf; Hayate with Reinforce; the Wolkenritter; the Materials; Vivio and Einhard; Thoma and Lily, both of them allying with Vivio and Einhard later.
*** The groups are later mixed up or separated in some parts of the story.
* ChewingTheScenery: '''[[LargeHam VITA]], [[BoisterousBruiser LEVI]], [[NoIndoorVoice DEARCHE]], [[HotBlooded AMITIE]]'''.
* ComboBreaker: Activating a Full Drive Burst stock gives temporary invincibility and knocks the opponent back. In some cases, their airborne state makes them vulnerable to be hit with the actual attack.
* ContinuityNod: This game is good with that.
** The Dark Pieces in this game are not only from the ''A's'' timeline, but also from {{Alternate Timeline}}s from different seasons.
*** Sankt Kaiser Vivio, with the mind of a six years old girl, is looking for her mother in the Cradle.
*** Dark Piece Yuuno is still looking for the Jewel Seeds, but he doesn't know Nanoha.
*** Alternate versions of Thoma and Lily are evil, because they weren't saved by Nanoha and the others.
*** Dark Piece Einhard is still looking for strong guys to battle.
*** Signum's loss by Cypha is picked up by a Dark Piece Thoma.
** The whole Testarossa conflict from season 1 is expanded in this game.
** As well as the conflict between the Yagami family and the Liese Twins.
** The "growth vampire Erio"-joke is extended here.
** The relevances of the Cartridge System and the usage of multiple Devices become important in this game.
** Nanoha and Stern's promise from ''B.o.A.''
** Dearche remembering her death by Signum.
** Yuuno being MistakenForBadass because he's just [[BadassAdorable Nanoha's]] teacher; this issue was already picked up by Subaru, Teana and Vivio in ''The Movie 1st'' DVDCommentary.
* CoolBigSis:
** Amitie.
** Also Thoma referred to Signum as "Signum-neesan".
* {{Crossover}}:
** An DramaCD entitled ''Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha [=GoD=] Sound Stage M'' actually has the OriginalGeneration cast meet the versions of Nanoha and Fate from ''[[Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaAs Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The Movie 2nd A's]]''... despite the movie's own Drama [=CDs=] and in-character DVDCommentary saying it was [[RecursiveCanon an in-universe production in the anime's timeline]].
** In the ''Side A'' disc the Materials show up in Mid-Childa and meet the core members of the former [[Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaStrikers Riot Force 6]] during the events in ''[[Manga/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaViVid ViVid]]''. However, ''Side A'' still takes place in the ''Portable'' timeline. During the Drama CD, Stern tells Nanoha about her meeting with the movie-verse characters from ''Side M''. Nanoha then thinks that [[MythologyGag even if she never met the Materials]] [[InSpiteOfANail things would still turn out the same way for her]].
* DemotedToExtra:
** Yuuno, again. While he fares somewhat better here what with him being a playable character, he's the only character in the game who doesn't have a CG appearance. It's even worse, several characters from ''[[Manga/MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce Force]]'' have a cameo appearance in two CG shots, but Yuuno doesn't.
** Nanoha herself has very few CG appearances. She is first seen in the end of Sequence 10. Justified, she's ''not'' the heroine in this game. The Eltrian Gears and the Materials, particularly Dearche, are.
*** Furthermore, Nanoha has not an own side story. There are the Testarossa story, the "Night Sky vs Liese" story, and the story around the four time travelers. Nanoha is still involved in those stories, but she has not a major role. She and Yuuno have the least significant plot relevances in the entire game. You can avoid her plot relevance even more by choosing Vita as one of the main attacks instead of her, that means Nanoha will not use her MidSeasonUpgrade in the final battle.
** Even the Devices are not immune to this. Raising Heart had many lines in ''B.o.A.'', even outside of the gameplay. In ''G.o.A.'', she, Graf Eisen and Laevatein have no lines in the story at all, not even when they load their [[spoiler:Anti-U-D-Cartridges]]. The only one who still gets a line is Bardiche, when Fate faces Linith[[note]]"Get set."[[/note]].
** The Forwards from ''[[Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaStrikers StrikerS]]'' don't appear in this game (not including Subaru's cameo). Justified. All battles are in the sky and all of them are ground mages. Even though, Subaru has her Wing Road, Erio has Strada's Düsenform and Caro has Friedrich and Voltaire, they would be odd characters in this game. And Teana has no possibility to fight in air at all. Well, at least Subaru (who has a cameo as mentioned above) and Erio are mentioned in this game. Teana and Caro are main characters with the worst luck.
*** They do appear in ''Sound Stage A'', though. But the ''[=ViVid=]'' versions of them, not the ''[=StrikerS=]'' ones.
** Not only the Forwards, but the other half of Team Nakajima from ''[=ViVid=]'' does not appear here. Well, at least Rio and Corona (and Nove) are mentioned. Isis from ''Force'' is not playable, but she appears in the end of the game.
* DoWellButNotPerfect: Due to an oversight, you automatically win the second round of the Final Sequence if the timer runs out after you whittle down U-D's first life bar so that hers has less HP than yours do but don't reduce it to zero and [[TurnsRed activate her second phase]]. The timer only recognizes her current life bar, so it assumes she has less life than you do even though she still has an untouched second life bar.
* {{Expy}}:
** The Nanoha games are being developed by the people who made ''VideoGame/WildArms''. With that in mind, [[http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/3627/10120102146dca60eba9e85.jpg Amitie Florian]] is practically a mish-mash of ''VideoGame/WildArms'' protagonists [[VideoGame/WildArms1 Rudy]], [[VideoGame/WildArms3 Virginia]], and [[VideoGame/WildArms4 Jude]]. As part of the story she even has the move, Accelerator. This is confirmed by WordOfGod in the guide, where an interview with ''Nanoha'' creator Masaki Tsuzuki confirms that the ''VideoGame/WildArms'' elements were include as a show of respect to ''Wild Arms'' creator Akifumi Kaneko.
** Related to the above, the dying desert world of Eltria is the dying desert world of [[VideoGame/WildArms Filgaia]] in all but name, complete with monsters to kill, dungeons to explore, and unstable LostTechnology to uncover.
* FunWithAcronyms: The name of the LimitedSpecialCollectorsUltimateEdition for ''Gears of Destiny'' is [[http://www.amiami.jp/shop/?set=english&vgForm=ProductInfo&sku=TVG-PSP-2105&template=default/product/e_display.html "[=GoD=] BOX".]]
* FutureBadass: Nanoha, Fate and Hayate, of course. In Thoma's imagine shot, we see the three Aces in the ''[[Manga/MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce Force]]'' timeline. In the epilogue, we see Nanoha and Fate in the ''[[Manga/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaViVid ViVid]]'' timeline, and Hayate in the ''Force'' timeline. And we all know they will be grown up in ''[[Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaStrikers StrikerS]]''.
* GlassCannon: Presea has powerful attacks, but she is also ''very'' vulnerable like Fate and Levi. Though, her armor is already almost as bad as the Sonic/Sprite Form.
* GoodThingYouCanHeal: The Materials [[spoiler:and [[RidiculouslyHumanRobots Amitie Florian]]]].
* HaveWeMetYet: Vivio, Einhart, Thoma, and Lily are all from the future, but the latter two are from two years further down the timeline. Vivio and Einhart thus have no idea who Lily is and Vivio only barely recognizes Thoma due to him suddenly appearing older and with [[PowerDyesYourHair a different hair color]] (Thoma and Lily have no problem telling who Vivio and Einhart are since they're both in their [[OlderAlterEgo Adult Modes]]). It leads to them initially mistaking each other for Dark Pieces. This also causes confusion when Thoma and Lily run into the Wolkenritter, since the Wolkenritter don't age.
* HopeSpringsEternal: [[spoiler:In the end, the Materials and U-D go with the Florian Sisters to Future Eltria. They're able to help a lot through their technical expertise in restoring the land and monster hunting]].
* HypercompetentSidekick: Yuuno to Nanoha, Arf to Fate, and Reinforce to Hayate. Each of the three sidekicks follow their respective partner/master for the majority of the story, and if you play them, they kick asses of characters who are actually much stronger than them.
* InSpiteOfANail: According to the DramaCD ''Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha [=GoD=] Sound Stage A''. There are no significant changes between this timeline and the main series timeline up to at least ''Manga/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaVivid''.
* KidFromTheFuture: Vivio during the time of ''Manga/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaVivid'' is one of the playable characters here.
* LaserGuidedAmnesia: [[spoiler:Done by the protagonist on themselves in the end so that they don't acccidentally alter the timeline. They also make sure to do it in a way so that they remember that the events happen, but the all the time travelling bits are hand waved away as something else, so that they don't try to reverse it. They will also remember everything when they meet the Materials or the Gears again.]]
* LastNameBasis:
** Discussed during Signum's encounter with Rynith, when Signum remarks that she's the only one who calls Fate by her surname. Signum states that she does so out of habit, but Fate doesn't dislike it.
** While the Liese twins call Nanoha and Fate by their first names(Aria uses "-chan," Lotte uses yobisute), they both refer to Hayate as "Yagami" without honorifics. Not only does this include Lotte, who's rude to Hayate for most of the story before developing a grudging respect for her, but also Aria, who's somewhat more polite despite everything that has happened.
%%* TheLeader: Chrono.
* LetsYouAndHimFight: Still happens with characters thinking the other one is a Dark Piece. Vita didn't learn the last time.
* LimitBreak: For the old characters, see ''The Battle of Aces'' entry above. The Materials got new Full Drive Bursts.
** Stern's ''Shin Luciferion Breaker''.
** Levi's ''Raijin Fusatsu Bakumetsuken''.
** Dearche's ''Juggernaut''.
** Amitie's ''E.O.D.''
** Kyrie's ''S.R.I.''
** Yuuno's ''Arrester Chain''.
** Arf's ''Lightning Fall''.
** Vivio's ''Sacred Blazer''.
** Einhard's ''Haō Dankū Ken''.
** Thoma's ''Divide Zero "Eclipse"''.
** Lotte & Aria's ''Mirage Assault''.
** Linith's ''Plasma Saber''.
** Presea's ''Crucifixion''.
** U-D's ''Ancient Matrix''.
* LookBehindYou: Used by Vivio to run away from Yuuno after their fight.
* MidSeasonUpgrade: In Sequence 6, Stern gives these to four of the characters for them to use during the final battle against U-D. Hayate and Chrono gets the Waffenträger and [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostwind Ostwind]] respectively. The other two characters who get upgrades depends on who you choose for the third and fourth fights of Sequence 6. If you chose them, Nanoha will get the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nebelwerfer Nebelwerfer,]] Fate will get the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nashorn Hornisse,]] Signum will get the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wirbelwind Wirbelwind,]] and Vita will get the [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brummb%C3%A4r Brummbär.]]
** You can choose either Nanoha/Fate, Nanoha/Signum, Vita/Signum or Vita/Fate.
** If you choose Kyrie in the first round of the FinalBattle and Amitie in the second, Amitie will get a MidSeasonUpgrade, too.
** [[spoiler:"Lord" Dearche]] gets her MidSeasonUpgrade in the end of Sequence 10, becoming [[spoiler:"Lord" Dearche TRINITY]].
* OldSaveBonus: Playing [=GoD=] with an existing save from the previous ''Battle of Aces'' game will instantly [[AndYourRewardIsClothes unlock the]] [[VideoGame/TheLegendOfValkyrie Valkyrie]] costume for Nanoha, the VideoGame/{{Klonoa}} costume for Fate, and the VideoGame/WonderMomo costume for Hayate (as seen [[http://i.imgur.com/7Rmzkg7.png here]]). Those without a ''[=BoA=]'' save will need to unlock them by having the three characters finish Time Attack Mode in 300 seconds.
* OneWomanArmy: Linith, as she [[spoiler:stomps over [[TheAce Nanoha]], [[LadyOfWar Signum]] and [[GorgeousGorgon Reinforce Eins]] in one run]].
* OnlyKnownByTheirNickname: Mariel Atenza is always referred as "Mari", even credited as Mari in the speech box.
* OriginalGeneration:
** The Florian sisters, Amitie and Kyrie.
** Kudakeenu Yami -- The Unbreakable Dark.
* PlayableEpilogue: Chapter X, a DenouementEpisode that could only be accessed after winning all of the pre-climax fights against the Unbreakable Dark in all routes.
* PosthumousCharacter: Clyde Harlaown, Chrono's late father, is mentioned a few times in the story. Ditto for Alicia.
** Presea and Linith. Only Dark Pieces of them appear in the story.
* PowerCreepPowerSeep:
** The travel through time is causing Thoma's Bible of the Silver Cross to malfunction, which conveniently shuts down the AntiMagic and other abilities that would make him broken in the ''[[Anime/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaAs A's]]'' timeline.
** Reinforce returns, but is slowly dying, which explains the {{nerf}}ing she got here.
** On the other end of the spectrum, Sacred Heart and Asteion turned out to be capable of helping Vivio and Einhard gain limited flight capabilities, explaining why they're able to fight in mid-air here when they couldn't in ''Manga/MagicalGirlLyricalNanohaVivid''.
* PutOnABus: Yuuno, Arf and the Liese Twins don't fight in the GrandFinale. Considering how strong the FinalBoss is, it's maybe the best.
* RobotWizard: The Florian sisters (in this game) in are RidiculouslyHumanRobots who are just as capable of using magic as the rest of the cast.
* SayMyName: When Arf goes KO, she screams Fate's name.
* SeanConneryIsAboutToShootYou: Nanoha and the Florian sisters on the [=GoD=] BOX cover.
* SeparatedByACommonLanguage: On Eltria, Lost Logia are called [=OOPArt=] (Out of Place Artifacts).
* ShoutOut: Levi's special FDB line, "Eternal Thunder Sword! Opponent dies instantly!" is a reference to the "Eternal Force Blizzard" meme on 2ch.
* SlidingScaleOfAlternateHistoryPlausibility: Even if this is a WhatIf AlternateHistory to the main Timeline, some are still declaring that information that come from this as Non-canon to the main timeline. Examples includes U-D's involvement with the Book of Darkness, and the strength and history of already established characters minus [[ForWantOfANail Hayate]].
* SpinningPiledriver: Arf's LimitBreak.
* SuperMovePortraitAttack: And it's always the same portray for the same character, even if the costume doesn't match at all. There are three exceptions: Hayate, Dearche and U-D's have extra portraits for their respective {{Super Mode}}s.
* TeethClenchedTeamwork: With the Liese Twins and the Wolkenritter due to what happened in the series. They still get along with everyone else.
** They can't believe how nice Hayate is to the point they suspect her of being a Dark Piece. However they seem to get along later. Lotte says she doesn't like Hayate's ideals, but she respects her persistence.
** With Vita -- really bad to the point you expect them to start ripping each other's hair.
** With Signum -- very professionally to the point of awkwardness.
** They blame Reinforce for the lives that were lost and how bad their lives had became.
* TimeMachine: Naturally, it's identified as a [[LostTechnology Lost Logia]].
* TimeTravel: First, Kyrie travels to this AlternateContinuity where the Examia exist. Then she's followed by Amitie who tries to stop her. The TimeMachine had a side effect that it brings Vivio, Einhard, Thoma and Lily to this timeline, too. In the end, all of them go back to their respective timelines, [[spoiler:the Florian sisters being accompanied by the Purple Sky Family]].
* TrailersAlwaysSpoil: Kurokishi Mode Thoma was revealed in the second trailer before it happened in ''[[Manga/MagicalRecordLyricalNanohaForce Force]]''.
* UnskilledButStrong: The Dark Pieces have some boosts, but InUniverse they are stated to be not as skilled as their original counterparts. The most blatant examples are the Dark Pieces of Vivio, who are in their [[SuperMode Sankt Kaiser Mode]]. They actually must be the among the most powerful characters in this game, yet they are defeated by Einhard and Shamal like any other {{Mook}}.
* VersusCharacterSplash: Unlike the previous game, it also appears in the Story Mode.
** During the Story Mode, the character sprites of certain characters change at some point. U-D in her Combat Mode, Amitie with Kyrie's Variant Zapper, Unison Hayate and [[spoiler:Dearche Trinity]].
* VillainShoes:
** Averted with the Materials, who have became [[AntiHero Anti-Heroines]], and Dark Piece Linith in Sequence 07-R, who even cannot be called an AntiVillain.
** Played straight with Dark Piece Presea in Sequence 07-P.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Just where are Lindy and Amy during this entire incident?
