''Larry and the Gnomes'' is an adventure-brawler flash game which can be found on Website/{{Newgrounds}}.

The kingdom of Karryon, once a peaceful land, has been plagued by a dark influence, and now hordes of Gnomes from the near Whackapork forest are wreaking havoc in the capital. You play as Larry, the Chosen one, a short, 19-year-old knight with a bad temper, hired with the dangerous task of finding the Gnome King and find out what's the matter. All by slashing his way through hordes of gnomes and monsters ready to tear him apart.

----
!!This game contains examples of:
* AdiposeRex: The Gnome King is quite corpulent, which will not stop him from turning you into a pancake with his maul.
%%* AnimeHair: Larry.
%%* AntiHero: Larry.
* TheArchmage: The first boss seems to be this, as he refers to himself as "''the'' Mage of the Gnomes", implying that he is the most powerful of them all. Indeed all later gnome mages are [[SquishyWizard a lot weaker]].
%% * AuthorityGrantsAsskicking: The Gnome King is also the FinalBoss.
* AwesomeYetImpractical: Some of the cooler-looking heavy weapons, like [[VideoGame/WarcraftIIIReignOfChaos Frostmourne]] for example. Smaller weapons deal less damage per hit, but their speed more than compensates for that, allowing a much better damage output in the end. Good luck getting a high enough damage output to kill the Gnome King with a heavy weapon.
* BadassBoast:
** The Boar Rider does one before his boss fight.
--->''You would never live the fall into the undergrounds. You would not last a second in our great Gnome city. And our king would crush you as powder! You will never get to'' '''try''' ''any of these things, because you will never get past'' '''me'''!
** The Gnome Mage's intro: "Let's get this over with so I can be home for supper!" clearly shows that he's not making a big deal of the fight and fully expects to win easily. Of course, Larry does look tiny and nonthreatening...
%% * BerserkButton: Larry doesn't like being mistaken for a child.
* {{BFS}}: Sometimes giant enemies will drop huge weapons which you can pick up. They can do a lot of damage, but you can barely slash once while using it. Played with in that they're only [=BFSes=] for someone gnome-sized, but regular weapons for a human-sized wielder.
* BossArenaIdiocy: The Gnome King conveniently keeps a bunch of health-restoring items outside his very room, and the Freak's battle happens in an arena where the spectators throw fruits at you of which the Freak is apparently very fond of. While not necessary to beat the boss, the Boar Rider's battle happens next to a pair of trees that can be beaten for powerups.
* BossBanter: Every boss who can speak (that means every boss save the Freak) taunts you. And so do {{Mooks}}.
-->''Get ready to face my magic! Are you enjoying this, boy?''\
''My beast is strong!''\
''DIE, BOY!''
* TheBrute: The Freak, who's only known for being an outright maniac that swings at you with his cleavers.
* BullfightBoss: The Freak is partially this -- it's essential to throw fruits at him to prevent him from cornering you, and jump over his charge when he uses it.
%% ** The Boar Rider is part this, part PuzzleBoss.
* BraggingRightsReward: Cheats, especially Invincibility, which is awarded for beating the game on Hard (that is, after you've proven you don't need it).
* CarryABigStick: The Gnome King's giant golden mace-scepter. If you beat the game on Normal, you unlock [[spoiler:a cheat that lets you use the Scepter of the King. It's the most damaging weapon in the game.]]
* TheChosenZero: As shown in the web series, Larry was actually chosen by the EvilChancellor of the kingdom, who specifically chose the most pathetic-looking person he saw.
* ColorCodedForYourConvenience: White weapons deals a little more damage, green one poisons, blue one freezes and red one deals fire damage.
* CollapsingCeilingBoss: The Gnome King will sometimes smash his fat butt on the ground, causing some rocks to fall (though the stomp itself is a lot deadlier than said rocks).
%%* DamageSpongeBoss: The Wizard and later the Gnome King.
%%* DeadpanSnarker: Larry.
%%* DeathFromAbove: The Gnome Mage's meteor storm.
* DegradedBoss: The Wizard in the end of the first act. You can stumble into gnome wizards as regular mooks later.
* DualWielding: The Freak dual-wields hatchets.
* ElementalWeapon: Comes in four flavors, all wielded by various minions for you to pick up. Normal magical weapons simply have their damage output increased by 20%. Fire weapons (those are usually the best to have) inflict 15 additional damage on each strike. Poison weapons deal 20 additional damage over time, and frost weapons deal no additional damage, but slow enemies down for 2 seconds (refreshed on each strike).
* EquipmentBasedProgression: The game has no leveling system. The player must find projectiles and weapons to get more powerful. Part of the strategy consists in knowing which weapon will be better in the long term, or knowing which will be the most useful for the current stage.
%%* FatBastard: The larger gnomes and the Gnome King.
* FlunkyBoss: the Gnome Mage occasionally summons a large horde of fairly weak shadow gnomes to attack you. This spell can be taken advantage of in three ways: first it provides opportunity to hit him while he's channeling, second the summoned gnomes can and fairly often do drop health pickups, and third, slashing through the swarm is a great way to generate rage, maximizing your damage output on the mage and making you immune to his powerful spells.
* {{Foreshadowing}}:
** Just before reaching the Freak Boss, you're treated with a cutscene where Larry is hit by a fruit, which he eats, claiming that it makes him feeling better. Later, you can use the thrown fruit to feed the monster, distracting him.
** The Boar Rider's BadassBoast foreshadows the dangers that Larry encounters in the fourth act.
* FullBoarAction: The second boss rides a giant boar.
%% * GiantMook: Larger gnomes, which are also {{Mighty Glacier}}s.
* GrievousHarmWithABody: You can use decapitated gnome heads as weapons.
%% * GrimyWater: Justified, as the water is glowing green and possibly poisonous.
* GroundPound: Both the Boar Rider's mount and the Gnome King can cause earthquakes with their sheer weight. The first's quake has a large area and must be jumped over. The second's is confined to a small area, but deals massive damage, and also causes rocks to collapse all around the arena. Larry himself can also perform one via the sprint-jump-attack combo.
* IFellForHours: The fall into the undergrounds. It lasts about two minutes, but the boulders falling all around you don't make it easy.
$$ * JavelinThrower: The Boar Rider. [[spoiler: You have to pick up said javelins and use them to stun him.]]
* KillerRabbit: Larry himself looks like a cute, tiny kid with a sword. Then watch him butchering hordes of gnomes like nothing. Not to mention the gnomes themselves. They're even smaller than Larry, but they will try their damndest to tear him apart.
* KillItWithFire: Fire weapons are typically the most damaging in the game.
* LargeAndInCharge: The Gnome King in particular is very large. All the other bosses are also noticeably bigger than the minions.
* LoadBearingBoss: [[spoiler: When you kill the Gnome King, his kingdom is consumed by flames.]]
* MagicKnight: The Gnome King, whose primary means of attack is a giant maul, but who also has impressive fire-based powers.
* MagicMissile: The main attack of the Mage boss and the Mage mooks is to rapid-fire magic bolts out of their wands. Like the elemental weapons, this comes in various flavors - magic (deals damage), poison (deals damage and additional damage over time), and frost (deals damage and slows down). Not fire though, oddly enough. The Mage boss can cast every type, while the mooks are limited to one. If Larry picks up a slain mage's wand, he too can fire magic bolts.
%% * MagicWand: Used to fire the aforementioned Magic Missiles.
* TheManBehindTheMan: The "Man of the Flames" who orders around the Gnome King.
* MeaningfulName: Larry Mittenhands has conjoined fingers.
* TheNapoleon: Larry is particularly short. Outside of the games, Larry is known for having a HairTriggerTemper, with his {{berserk button}}s being {{height insult}}s and being [[OlderThanHeLooks mistaken for a kid despite being 19]].
* NoSell: If you picked up an icy weapon in hopes of turning the Gnome King's already slow strikes completely nonthreatening, you'll be unpleasantly surprised when you find out that slowing effects don't even last a second on him.
%% * OlderThanHeLooks: Larry is 19 according to his words.
* OneHitKill: The Freak's attacks and the Gnome King's ground pound come very close. On Hard Mode, they ARE indeed One Hit Kills, while the Freak can kill you in a few hits even on the lowest difficulty.
* PlayingWithFire: The Gnome King can cast fireballs and a flamethrower from his crown.
%% * PuzzleBoss: The Second and Third bosses requires some clever thinking.
* RequisiteRoyalRegalia: The Gnome King's attire. It is notable that his crown contains fire magic, and his golden scepter can squash someone flat.
%% * RushBoss: The purple Freak, which has the least number of health points of all bosses, but if he lands a hit, you're finished.
* SequelHook: [[spoiler: The Gnomes are gone, but the Man of the Flames? Not so much...]]
* ShoutOut: You can find the [[Franchise/KingdomHearts Keyblade]] and [[VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft Frostmourne]] among other weapons. Not to mention [[Franchise/StarWars a lightsaber]], [[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVII Cloud's Buster Sword]], [[Literature/TheLordOfTheRings Sting]], [[Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda the Master Sword]], [[VideoGame/GodOfWar one of Kratos' blades]], plus the sword of Auron the Paladin (from Jazza's own game ''Paladin'').
%% * SufferTheSlings: Larry's default ranged weapon, which is also sometimes wielded by gnomes.
%% * SquishyWizard: Gnome mages play it straight, but the Mage Boss averts it and has quite a lot of health.
* TacticalSuicideBoss:
** The Gnome Mage would be almost impossible to defeat if he didn't [[spoiler:summon those shadow gnomes that drop health pickups and are great for rage farming.]]
** The boar rider would have been undefeatable if not for [[spoiler:the spears he throws.]]
* ThisIsGonnaSuck: After seeing the Gnome King.
-->'''Larry''':"Oh brother...."
* ThrowingYourSwordAlwaysWorks: You can pick up and toss any weapon for massive damage.
%% * TooDumbToLive: The King of Karryon. He also seems to have a rather poor grasp on sarcasm.
* UnstoppableRage: You can go into a berserker rage which allows you to kill almost everything in one hit while sparing you from any damage and knockdown. This is absolutely essential to get past several very hard level sections and to kill bosses one and four (the ones that are not [[PuzzleBoss Puzzle Bosses]]).
* VillainTeleportation: Gnome mages can teleport to escape conflict, although it does not take them too far and they cannot [[TeleportSpam spam]] it.
%%* VoiceOfTheLegion: The Gnome King.
* WeaponsKitchenSink: In a vaguely medieval setting you can pick up tons of weapons including: swords, sabers, sticks, clubs, hammers, axes, hatchets, knives, serrated blades, polearms, sickles, double pikes, ji halbeards, katana-like swords, monk's spades and blunderbusses.
* WouldntHurtAChild: The first two bosses mistake Larry for a child and tell him to run along, only attacking him once they learn that he's the chosen one.
%% * YouHaveFailedMe: The Man of the Flames threatens to pull this on the Gnome King if he keeps failing. [[AvertedTrope He doesn't get to]], since Larry is the one who ends up killing the King.
