* ''WebAnimation/BecomeJehovahsFriend'':
** The target audience is children being raised as Jehovah's Witnesses. As such, viewers outside of that denomination, including many other Christians, are likely to be put off by some of the moral values being taught.
** The episode where Sophia and her mom morally grandstand over Carrie for having two mommies, with the conclusion being that she should preach to her about the ills of homosexuality. That episode cemented her mother as TheScrappy. Thankfully, the rest of the school is implied to supportive of her (since she felt confident enough to draw them and pin the drawing in a public board), so they have her back in case Sophia actually goes through with it.
* ''WebAnimation/{{RWBY}}'': The different cultural norms between the US and Japan means that Japanese fans sometimes struggle with events, character behaviours and decisions made within the show, often mentioning that the show or characters come across as "very American" to them. Examples include:
** It is common for some of the female characters like Ruby and Nora to take a "crab stance" when excited or battle-ready; their knees and toes splay outwards, which is regarded as inappropriate by Japanese fans. In Japanese media, girls will instead splay their feet, while keeping their knees locked together.
** Ozpin's Volume 2 diversity speech generated comment among Japanese viewers because Japanese society tends to value conformity and not standing out from your peers.
** In Volume 3, Nora belches loudly after eating ramen. While this is considered bad etiquette in general, it doesn't work as a joke in Japan, so the dub changed it to a modest "Guhhh".
** At the end of Volume 3, Japanese viewers observed that Ruby telling Yang she loved her wouldn't commonly occur in Japanese society as such expressions are rarely used.
** During dinner in Volume 5, Ruby gestures and points at Ren with her chopsticks; this is extremely rude behaviour in Japan, so many Japanese fans found the scene uncomfortable to watch.
** Blake's Volume 6 DeclarationOfProtection to Yang comes across as very romantic to Japanese viewers. Western reactions tend to regard Yang's offence as being about the implication she can't protect herself whereas Japanese reactions tend to be confused about why Yang would be offended at all.

* Most readers of Creator/RalphHayesJr's ''Webcomic/GoblinHollow'' webcomic felt he hit this pretty badly when Penny's upbraiding an obnoxious, bigoted JerkAss preacher who had singled her out as a target for his bullying for no apparent reason, something that was perceived as her SugarWiki/MomentOfAwesome and a fine example of her CharacterDevelopment from being a BrattyTeenageDaughter to a grumpy DeadpanSnarker with MamaBear traits, was met in-universe by Lily demanding she apologize for causing such a scene in church and promptly slapping her in the face and grounding her for a week when she refused to do so. The author was deeply shocked, even outraged, when the readers were themselves outraged by this and revolted against Lily and Ben being treated as being the ones in the right.
** Penny in general being regarded as a "troubled teen", as most of the things she actually does don't come off as being anywhere near that unusual or anarchic for a teenage girl in the eyes of most readers. Her biggest signs of "being troubled" are that she's surly, not too shy about sexual matters (though still a virgin) and always wears black clothes.
* In the Thai webcomic ''Webcomic/LilyLove'', Donut is concerned that she is ugly because she is supposedly dark-skinned. While this is normal in UsefulNotes/{{Thailand}}, where skin whitening is common, it would be considered odd in western societies, where tanned skin is seen as more desirable. Also in the comic, everyone is called by a nickname, which is normal in Thailand, but quite strange in other places.
* ''Webcomic/KevinAndKell'' contains a lot of DeliberateValuesDissonance, but as it is almost as old as the internet itself, also shows how attitudes to the internet and online culture have changed. For example, in early strips all the web design of one of the biggest corporations on the planet is done by a single in-house employee. Also, their first webmaster is entirely self-taught, when nowadays he would be expected to have some kind of formal training or qualification.
* In ''Velamma'', the [[BigBeautifulWoman titular]] [[MrsRobinson character's]] [[HairyGirl body hair]] is seen as no big deal, as is typical for a South Asian audience, but from a Western perspective, it may be a fetish or, worse, a turn-off.
* Most English-language webcomics are made for free and are viewable for free. In contrast, a lot of KoreanWebtoons, such as ''Webcomic/WhatDoesTheFoxSay'', can only be seen if you pay, or at minimum sign up for a website. This upsets many westerners who don't see why they can't just read the comic for free.
* ''Webcomic/StandStillStaySilent'', being a Finnish webcomic written in English, has run into this a few times:
** Chapter 11 of Adventure I has a scene in which the Nordic main characters run into a book written in Chinese and everyone save for the most bookish of them ranges from not recognizing the language at all to not remembering its correct name. One of the characters struggling with the name came up with "Ching-Chong" (changed to "Kung fu" due to the ensuing backlash). While not completely innocent, but tolerated, in Finland, is even more problematic in many English-speaking place, resulting in many extremely negative comments. In addition to this, there were some readers who took issue with the very idea of making a gag out of the fact that the characters don't know the right name for Chinese, while the author simply saw it as a light-hearted way to get the main cast wondering if there could be ZombieApocalypse survivors outside of the Nordics.
** Keeping the mourning past the actual funeral private and barely ever talking about someone once they are dead is a standard practice in the Nordics. After one of the main characters died, many readers from cultures in which mourning is more visible and/or collective got the impression that the dead character was getting the ForgottenFallenFriend treatment.
* Creator-admitted example in ''Brigadier Swirl'' whose premise was a group of [[TeenagePregnancy pregnant high school students]] [[PregnantBadass becoming superheroes]]. Gravidtron later admitted to feeling uncomfortable when looking back and toyed with the idea of aging up the main cast to them being in college.
* ''Webcomic/LeastICouldDo'': A LOT of the comic hasn't aged well thanks to its humor now being seen as racist and sexist. This includes:
** Rayne forcing a lesbian employee to out herself to him and then declaring her new name is "Munchie" and she has to watch porn with him
** Rayne dressing in racist Native American garb to mock his boss' new boyfriend who happens to be Native American
** Rayne keeping a Mexican child locked in his trunk
** The fact that 'Street Urchin', a homeless child, isn't allowed to age like every other human character, meaning he is seen as a pet rather than a person.
* ''Webcomic/{{Supermegatopia}}'': One the heroines was She-Male, an {{Expy}} of She-Hulk, whose gimmick was that when she transformed, she'd grow a penis, much to the disgust of her teammates. Nowadays, that would be considered extremely transphobic.
* ''Webcomic/NipAndTuck'': While not common in this strip, it does show up, which makes sense given that R.H. Jr. is a pretty solidly Right Wing Southerner (okay, Midwesterner) kind of person and doesn't shy away from using his comics as a soap box.
** Women who actually call themselves Feminists come in for a lot of abuse... but the female characters in the regular cast are strong-willed, sensible, and able to take care of themselves... which is what a lot of actual feminists think a female character should be like. (The hard part is whether this counts as Values Dissonance for the strip or for Feminism...)
*** Given the author's female characters are generally portrayed very positively -- other examples include a WrenchWench in ''Webcomic/TalesOfTheQuestor'' and a girl genius in his short-lived superhero comic Fellowship Of Heroes -- it's pretty much ValuesDissonance with Feminism, especially radical feminism, which is discussed and deconstructed in the strip.
** Then there's [[http://www.rhjunior.com/nip-and-tuck-58/ this]] [[http://www.rhjunior.com/nip-and-tuck-59/ two-part strip]] condemning transgender people as mental deviants who deserve to be physically abused until they conform to gender norms, with the second featuring not only R.H. Jr. expanding on that belief in the comments, but also making one of several statements across his comics where he condemns homosexuality as a sin.

[[folder: Web Original]]
* The mostly-defunct blog ''Blog/GaijinSmash'' derives most of its comedy from the ValuesDissonance that the writer (an American) experiences while living in Japan.
* WebVideo/BrowsHeldHigh: Oancitizen's review of "Exterminating Angels" starts with him mentioning that the French are "famously blasé when discussing sex", then showing a clip from ''Film/{{Amelie}}'' where Amélie is seen counting couples orgasming at the same time. He is perplexed that the film is rated "R" in the US, but only the equivalent of an "G" rating in France itself.
* Website/ChannelAwesome:
** Most of the reviewers on the site are American and are frequently discussing super hero movies in fullest detail. To people outside the US who are less endeared about super hero movies, this can often come across as being very obsessive over something that is generally children's or in the very least early teenage entertainment. (For that matter, there are plenty of Americans who share that attitude, although they are understandably more inclined to keep their opinions to themselves.) Of course, in the U.S.A. most young people grow up with these types of comics and thus feel very attached to them.
** It says a lot that the TGWTG reviewers literally ignored Creator/StevenSpielberg and Creator/PeterJackson's ''WesternAnimation/TheAdventuresOfTintin2011'' movie, despite reviewing every other major Hollywood release. ''Franchise/{{Tintin}}'', which is an institution in Europe, is an international bestseller across the rest of the world as well, except in the U.S.A. where it remains a cult favorite. This might explain why the only TGWTG reviewer who actually discussed it was WebVideo/FilmBrain, who is British!
** WebVideo/TheCinemaSnob focuses most of his reviews on offensive films, particularly porn and slasher films, but even he occasionally finds movies that are too far outside his values for him to take lightly. ''Film/ChildBride'' and its themes of underage marriage were a struggle for him to watch, and while he could mostly joke about the Christian Fundamentalist anti-rock music flick ''Film/RockItsYourDecision'', he [[OOCIsSeriousBusiness angrily drew the line]] when the film's trump card proof of rock's evil was that some musicians were "admitted homosexuals."
** Viewers from more secular countries, such as Britain, can get confused about the LampshadeHanging of Santa Christ apparently being offensive.
** Noted by WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic in "Film/TrueGrit: Old vs. New", as he understands the original was made in the sixties, but he can't help but feel sorry for the snake getting its skull bashed in.
* [=YouTube=] singer Fredde Gredde made [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mDOg07gku0g a medley of video game tunes with lyrics]], including the ''VideoGame/PunchOut'' meme "Nigga stole my bike". Being from Sweden, he didn't see it as being offensive, just as a meme.
* Duckyworth:
** Overlapping with AmericansHateTingle, [[http://duckyworth.deviantart.com/journal/DT-Pokemon-Giratina-and-the-Sky-Warrior-2008-383582483 Duckyworth]], while reviewing ''Anime/PokemonGiratinaAndTheSkyWarrior'' had one of his complaints be about Giratina's lack of appearance, appearing in only five of the first 43 minutes of the film, giving more focus to the “annoying green flower rat” [[UngratefulBastard Shaymin]] instead for most of the film. In Japan, there is a bigger focus on the lighter, cuter aspects of a franchise, where in most of the merchandising and the anime, mainly cute Pokémon take up the spotlight, while there is more focus on the “manlier” aspects in western culture. Hence, the cuter Legendary and Mythical Pokémon tend to get a bigger focus in these films.
** Likewise, in the review for ''[[http://duckyworth.deviantart.com/journal/DT-The-Elf-That-Rescued-Christmas-2011-420025994 The Elf That Rescued Christmas]]'', he blames [[BlindIdiotTranslation 'bad dubbing']] from the script about Santa coming from Lapland instead of the North Pole. Those living in Finland (where the film was produced) believe that he actually lives there. To be specific, on a mountain called Korvatunturi, located in Savukoski.
* In {{Creator/Filmcow}}'s ''Bino The Elephant'', the idea of a character's wife having a "hat box" was played for SurrealHumor. Funny thing is, in the south, people do have hat boxes (even though Filmcow Studios is in Florida).
* Since ''Podcast/WhoBackWhen'' reviews ''Doctor Who'' episodes going back to the [=1960's=], the subject of Values Dissonance can come up due to the casual racism and sexism of the time. Examples include use of {{Blackface}} in "The Crusades", or the fact that the "Celestial" in the name of the Celestial Toymaker was a slang term for Chinese in that period.
* WebVideo/WatchMojo's ''Top 10 Movie Tropes That Would Not Fly Today''. Examples including casual attitudes towards rape, non-ironic racial stereotypes, and blackface/yellowface.
* YouTubeKidsChannel:
** Some channels feature UsefulNotes/AdolfHitler in some of their videos. This is probably due to the fact that most of these channels operate in India where Hitler isn't considered as taboo.
** The channel Pingu TV (which later got terminated) received a lot of criticism after they made a video on the story ''Dina and the Prince'' (which has since been deleted). In the story, a prince is attracted to a woman. The woman is later punished by the gods. Her punishment is that she turns black and "ugly". The story itself only mentions the scars on her face, but it's still clear that being black is a part of the curse. A few moments later she regains her beauty and is turned back into a straight-haired white woman. Pingu TV is an Indian channel. There's a lot of colorism against darker skin tones in India.
* CBR's [[https://www.cbr.com/tag/wizard-magazine/ retrospective]] of ''Wizard'' magazine has among the highlighted content "This Ain't [=HuffPo=]", with comments regarding sex appeal, women's bodies, and such that would hardly fly today without [[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_wave_feminism the current feminists]] complaining.
* In ''WebVideo/HistoryOfPowerRangers'': ''Series/PowerRangersCosmicFury'', Linkara suggests that this is why ''Power Rangers'' remained popular as long as it did: the advent of [=VCRs=] and the Internet, the creeping and slowly prevailing idea that you didn’t have to give up childish things as an adult anymore and companies realizing they can continue a series by keeping the core ideas prevalent while adjusting everything else.

[[folder:Memes]]
* Numerous examples of MemeticMutation have come under fire due to their apparent portrayal of mental disabilities:
** "DERP", one of the older Rage Face characters, was originally just a smiley face with eyes that look in opposite directions, and used to make fun of random, nonsensical and/or silly behaviors. However, this has come to become troubled in recent years: most notably, in ''WesternAnimation/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagic", where a cross-eyed pegasus character named "Derpy" in reference to the meme was widely accused of being a negative stereotype to the mentally-handicapped.
** ''"I Can Count to Potato"'', a meme about a young girl with Down's syndrome used to jokingly address characters seen as being dim-witted as going "potato". This ended up becoming more controversial when the parents of said girl complained in a court case about how the meme was defamation and demeaning to their daughter.
** A meme from 2007, ''"Retarded Running Horse"'', depicts a photoshopped [[ArmlessBiped two-legged horse]] running in a loop to the song "Chaccaron", consisting of gibberish babbling. It was widely imitated by many other two-legged animal gifs, collectively known as "Retarded Running Animals". Today, the word "retard" is starting to be considered an offensive slur, so the meme is now better known by its other names, "Lol Horse" or simply "Two-Legged Running Horse".
