%% This page has been alphabetized, please put your example in the appropriate spot.
* In ''VideoGame/AnimalCrossing'', if a villager isn't classically cute, it's ugly cute. [[SugarBowl It's that kind of game.]]
* ''VideoGame/ArkSurvivalEvolved: Aberration'' and ''Genesis II'' have the Bulbdog, a mutant creature which visually resembles a boggle-eyed and drooly cross between a toad, anglerfish, and pug, and acts like an excitable puppy.
* The ''VideoGame/{{Avernum}}'' series has the GIFTS, a race of cheerful, childlike [[TheDitz ditzes]] who all talk in squeaky voices and think you're really neat. And happen to be giant spiders.
* ''VideoGame/BaldursGateIII'' introduces Us the intellect devourer. Us is basically a brain on four terrifyingly clawed legs with tentacles sticking out of it, the voice of a child and the personality of a particularly friendly and eager puppy.
* ''VideoGame/BanjoKazooie'' series:
** The Jinjos, as well as King Jingaling's "cool pet thing."
** If you can get past the frightening way he's introduced in, Clanker can come off as this. Being a cyborg [[SomewhereAMammalogistIsCrying shark-whale thing]] with rusty metallic skin, a wide sharp-toothed smile, and a pair of bulging eyes makes him look either terrifying or adorable, or both. It also helps that the guy is harmless ([[WombLevel though not on the inside, literally]]) [[TheWoobie and you can't help but to feel sorry for him, as his demise is to be a living garbage disposal, tethered in a dock way too small for him to even swim around in]].
* In ''VideoGame/BeyondGoodAndEvil'', heroine Jade's sidekicks are an obese, middle-aged PigMan with dark, truly ''animal'' eyes, tusks, a hairy chest, and a [[{{Gasshole}} propensity toward flatulence]], and an [[{{Cloudcuckoolander}} out-of-it]] TopHeavyGuy with a lumpy nose, strange, sideways mouth, and BigOlEyebrows. They're also ''incredibly'' kind, sincere, and loving, and thus get a lot of love.
* ''VideoGame/BioShock1'':
** It helps that despite being one of the most dangerous common enemies, Big Daddies are also the only ones that ''don't'' actively attack you on sight.
** The Little Sisters count too. Their eyes might be a solid, sickly, glowing yellow, but they're still cute.
--->"Come on, Mr. Bubbles!"
* Arakune from ''VideoGame/BlazBlue''. He's basically a human-sized EldritchAbomination / BlobMonster. Still, his little "face" (which has a more than passing resemblance to the [[Anime/GhostInTheShellStandAloneComplex Tachikomas']]) makes him [[https://daiphyer.com/forum/uploads/monthly_10_2009/post-283586-1254904522.jpg eerily adorable]].
* ''VideoGame/{{Bloodborne}}'': Over the course of the game, you find items that serve no purpose other than to play dress-up with the [[BenevolentAbomination Messengers, ugly but benevolent little monsters]] that display messages and work as shopkeepers.
* Tiny Tina from ''VideoGame/Borderlands2'' can be seen as this. Dirty, psychotic, and topped off with the series' signature, grungey [[StylisticSuck stylistic suck]]; yet many find her darkly funny, charming and ultimately a traumatized {{woobie}} at heart.
* Kouri in ''VideoGame/BrassRestoration'' finds the Ill-pin stuffed... ''characters'' adorable. They are based on ''viruses''. Ryo, the main character, just doesn't see it.
* ''VideoGame/BrutalLegend'':
** The Ground Urchins and Raptor Elks. Also the Metal Beasts, which happen to be giant Aztec panthers that can breathe fire.
** The headbangers with their short, muscular bodies are at most comical. But in watching them interact and sometimes show off their own unique personalities, the player may start to grow a soft spot for them.
* ''VideoGame/ChicoryAColorfulTale'': Basically every bug living in Grub Meadows, especially once Prunus joins you to help translate their screeches. Queen Drosera in particular is a giant centipede who looks like she would be a terrifying boss battle in any other action game, but instead she's a big softie who gushes about how adorable you are.
* ''VideoGame/CityOfHeroes'': The demons that can be [[SummonMagic summoned]] in the [[ExactlyWhatItSaysOnTheTin Demon Summoning]] power set have no skin, various skulls for faces, and are wreathed in fire (or ice). And yet, there is something undeniably cute about them. The demonlings especially, whose IdleAnimation is to sit there ''[[AllAnimalsAreDogs wagging their tails]]''.
* The cutscene at the beginning of the first level of ''VideoGame/CliveBarkersJericho'' features a prophetic dream in which the leader of an occult group speaks with a [[CreepyChild strange, blackened child like creature]] that speaks in [[VoiceOfTheLegion a voice that wavers between a guttural growl and a pleasant child's voice]]. CreepyCute as much as Ugly Cute. [[spoiler:It also turns out to be the game's BigBad.]]
* The Ettins and Grendels from the ''VideoGame/{{Creatures}}'' series. The main Creatures, the Norns, are ''supposed'' to be cute. But the Ettins have lumpy, monkey-like bodies and strange red eyes, while the Grendels are nasty little reptilian critters with diseases and angry expressions. But when they display the same sort of helplessness as the Norns, well, it's hard ''not'' to love them.
** Grorns too, with some of the adorable features of norns and the not so adorable features of grendels, are generally adorable anyway.
* Some fans see ''VisualNovel/DanganronpaV3KillingHarmony'''s Ryoma Hoshi as this. Sure, he has a strange, {{gonk}}-ish design, but despite his initial gruff demeanor, he's a very kind person and wants to find a reason to live and escape with the rest of his classmates. It helps that his [[DrearyHalfLiddedEyes eyes]] and cat-eared hat remind some fans of ComicStrip/{{Garfield}}.
* The loot bugs of ''VideoGame/DeepRockGalactic''. They're fat, six-eyed maggot/slug creatures that crawl around the caves of Hoxxes. And yet, with no natural predators, they are entirely passive, and they make "sad puppy" noises when the dwarves are nearby. A shame [[MetalMuncher they eat nitra and gold]], and [[PinataEnemy drop a lot of it when killed]], though the dwarves ''do'' admit to feeling bad about killing them to loot it.
* ''VideoGame/DonkeyKongCountry'' series:
** Donkey Kong himself. He is a huge brawny gorilla who likes to showcase his strength, often sports a wide smile with large teeth, and has an arched forehead that gives his small eyes a perpetually angry look. Nevertheless, [[BewareTheNiceOnes when not provoked]], he is a sweet and fun-loving guy who greatly loves his friends, and has kept conquering the hearts of gamers for years.
** Some of the baddies also qualify, particularly the Klaptraps with their [[CuteLittleFangs cute little snaggle-teeth]].
** Squitter the Spider, one of the animal friends from the original trilogy. [[SpidersAreScary Spiders aren’t normally depicted as cute in media]], but Squitter [[FriendlyNeighborhoodSpider averts this]] by being pretty goofy-looking and adorable with his bulging eyes, buck teeth, and for wearing sneakers on all of his eight feet.
* Webber from ''VideoGame/DontStarve''. He's a HalfHumanHybrid with a GiantSpider for a head and an EnemyToAllLivingThings other than spiders. However, this seems to be only because all other living things [[AnimalsHateHim try to kill him]], and personality-wise he's a sweet and innocent little boy.
* ''VideoGame/{{Doom}}'' has some demons who look grotesque and cute at the same time.
** In ''VideoGame/DoomEternal'', the [[https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Zombie_(Doom_Eternal)?file=Zombie_Eternal.png standard Zombies]]' vacant expressions, the way they gawk at oncoming objects and having a lot of the most comedic Glory Kills almost override the inherent horror of what they are. [[spoiler:The one featured in the post-credits scene that starts messing with the Slayer's toy collection in the Fortress of Doom is a particular example, making noises like a child with action figures would.]]
** In the same game, the [[https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Demon/Doom_Eternal?so=search&file=Pinky_Eternal.png Pinkies' design]] is somewhat chubby and as annoying as it can be, their habit of charging directly ahead to the point of faceplanting into walls is always worth a chuckle.
** The [[https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Cacodemon/Doom?file=Cacodemon_sprite.png Caco]][[https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Cacodemon/Doom_64?file=Cacodemon_64_sprite.png demons]] and the [[https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Pain_Elemental/Doom_II?file=Painelemental_sprite.png Pain]] [[https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Pain_Elemental/Doom_Eternal?file=20200928140031_1.jpg Elementals]] are essentially big [[{{Cyclops}} one-eyed]] [[https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Cacodemon/Doom_(2016)?file=CACODEMON.png floating]] [[https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Cacodemon/Doom_Eternal?file=Cacodemon_Eternal.png heads]] with goofy faces. ''VideoGame/DoomEternal'' seems to [[LeaningOnTheFourthWall lean of the fourth wall]] for that, as Cacodemons now catch grenades like a dog would catch a sweet from their owner, and Pain Elementals float in the air by walking on non-existant legs. There's a reason why the former are the mascot of [[https://doomwiki.org/wiki/Entryway the original [=DoomWiki=]]].
** While [[https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Pain_Elemental/Doom_64?file=Painelemental64_sprite.png Pain Elementals]] look like {{Eldritch Abomination}}s in ''VideoGame/Doom64'', they still produce [[https://doomwiki.org/wiki/File:Doom64LostSoul-D64ex.jpg Lost Souls]] whose big nostrils make look goofy, despite them being floating {{Flaming Skulls}}.
** In ''Doom II'', the [[https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Arachnotron/Doom_II?so=search&file=Spiderdemon_sprite.png Arachnotrons]] are [[BrainMonster giant brains in]] [[SpiderTank cybernetic platform weapons]], but still look goofy enough to be considered cute by some players. Even if their ''Doom Eternal'' [[https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Arachnotron/Doom_Eternal?file=Arachnotron_DE.png design takes a lot from]] [[https://doom.fandom.com/wiki/Arachnotron/Doom_64?file=Arachnotron64_sprite.png the creepy looks they had in]] ''Doom 64'', [[https://youtu.be/3ilo6MaD_io?si=7ml14OTj8g8xx16D&t=427 their death animations]] [[AintTooProudToBeg manage to make them sympathetic]].
* From the world of ''Franchise/DragonAge'':
** Nugs look like the subterranean hybrid of rabbits and pigs. Although they're a tasty delicacy to the dwarves, some people apparently domesticate them; in fact, you can acquire a nug for [[ActionGirl Leliana]], which she will name Schmooples. They are actually kind of cute, though their constant squeaking is a bit annoying to the point that Oghren will threaten to eat Schmooples.
** Deepstalkers are also cute despite their horrible lamphrey-like mouths and their tendency to spit poison.
** Ghasts from ''VideoGame/DragonAgeII'' seem to have been designed with this trope in mind. They're vile little gremlins with MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily, but they tumble out of their holes when they attack, make goofy noises during combat, and wear funny hats. They even flop over in a comical way when they die.
* The entire ''VideoGame/DragonQuest'' series of games is loaded with monsters like this thanks to Creator/AkiraToriyama doing the designs. If a monster isn't a RidiculouslyCuteCritter, it's invariably one of these instead.
* King Trode from ''VideoGame/DragonQuestVIII'', who is cursed into a chubby green orc.
* The good ending of ''VideoGame/{{Eversion}}''. [[spoiler:Two {{Eldritch Abomination}}s, together at last]]!
* The Mr. Saturns in ''VideoGame/EarthBound1994'' and ''VideoGame/Mother3'' are comical big-nosed creatures with massive eyebrows and a single hair on their head, tied up with a red bow, and yet, their {{Wingdinglish}} and the [[VerbalTic "Boing"s, "Zoom"s and "Ding"s]] littered in their speech are both endearing.
* ''Franchise/TheElderScrolls'':
** ''[[VideoGame/TheElderScrollsIIIMorrowind Morrowind]]'':
*** Guars are a [[DomesticatedDinosaurs bi-pedal reptilian]] used by the native Dunmer as beasts of burden as well as for their hides, which are a valuable alchemical ingredient. They are also super cute looking.
*** Scamps are the [[TheGoomba weakest]] known form of [[OurDemonsAreDifferent lesser Daedra]], and also [[FunSize the smallest]], standing just over half the height of an average man. That said, they have gained some fans due to their "cuteness", particularly the [[LethalJokeCharacter Scamp merchant]] Creeper.
*** Rieklings, a blue-skinned race of humanoids native to [[GrimUpNorth Solstheim]], stand only about half the height of an average man. Their diminutive size and gibberish language tends to get them the UglyCute treatment.
** ''[[VideoGame/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim Skyrim]]'':
*** Netch family from the ''Dragonborn'' DLC.
*** Rieklings return and are once again this. Despite their [[ArtEvolution much more bestial appearance]] here than in ''Morrowind'', they're referenced by some players as "[[Franchise/StarWars ewoks]] of Skyrim".
* The bogs from ''VideoGame/ElementalStory''. They make good plushies (a pair of them were seen during the live battle stream event) and their sleeping looks during maintenance periods are adorable, but when they open their sharp mouths they look terrifying.
* Some of the [[TheHeartless Blotlings]] from ''VideoGame/EpicMickey'', particularly the [[https://images.wikia.com/epicmickey/images/d/db/Spatter_image.jpg Spatters]] who get a neat little costume depending on what area you're in, and the chubby Spladooshes, who (as long as stay a safe distance or have befriended them) are perfectly content to sit there and sleep.
* This was an [[IntendedAudienceReaction intentional goal]] in the design of ''VideoGame/{{Factorio}}'''s insectoid aliens. As the game's primary threat, they need to look sufficiently creepy and menacing, but at the same time their large, expressive eyes are a reminder that they're not evil, just [[NonMaliciousMonster animals instinctively responding to what they perceive as a threat]].
* In ''VideoGame/{{Fallout 3}}'', the bartender of Moriarty's Saloon, Gob.
** His mother Carol, too. Despite being what are essentially sentient zombies, they're just so sweet and endearing!
** There's also the Mole Rats. Especially Pumpkin.
** Charon, also a ghoul, [[EnsembleDarkhorse has quite the share of fangirls]].
* ''VideoGame/FalloutNewVegas''
** The [[LivingWeapon K9000 Cyberdog Gun]] and the Cyber K9s from ''Old World Blues''.
** Doesn't matter if they're trying to burn the player alive, Fire Geckos are ''cute''.
** Mole rats return with the addition of Snuffles, an injured tamed mole rat, in Sloan.
** Baby Deathclaws. Look at those tiny horns! Who's a good murder lizard? You are! Yes, you-- [[KilledMidSentence aaaaargh]]!
** Spike from ''Old World Blues'' is a Deathclaw the size of a chihuahua and is as cute as one too!
** "Animal Friend" makes many of the worst creatures the wasteland has to offer and tames them. Now you can walk right up to a pack of Nightstalkers and coo at how cute they are. [[BearsAreBadNews Yao Guai]], not so much...
* Ghouls in ''VideoGame/Fallout4'' are now this, as opposed to their ghastly, zombie-like design in the previous games. Rather than looking necrotic and decayed, they are covered in scars caused by radiation burns but still resemble living humans, have no noses, and many of them have dark sclerae and irises that give their eyes a puppy-dog effect. It helps that most of the named ghouls you meet are also friendly and have endearing personalities, like Daisy and Kent in Goodneighbor, or the settlers living at the Slog.
* [[https://mysims.wikia.com/wiki/File:Zombie_Carl.jpg Zombie Carl]] from ''VideoGame/MySims''.
* Many ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'' monsters may qualify, but the Tonberry most of all; he may be one of the most dangerous random encounters around, but a diminutive fish-lizard-thing with a lantern somehow winds up being cute enough to sell plush toys.
* The Vath in ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyXIV'' a race of what appears to be a mix of a beetle and horseshoe crabs. They aren't pretty to look at, but their child-like curiosity and mannerisms make them very endearing, making them a race of bugs that are in awe at new things.
* Megalo from ''VideoGame/FossilFighters''. It was deliberately designed to look like people ''thought'' dinosaurs used to look, so it's big, lumpy, gray, and dopey-faced. But it's that derpy expression that makes it so incredibly endearing.
* ''VideoGame/{{Gish}}'' has this as its dominant aesthetic. The player and enemy characters have stylized round shapes and big eyes, which makes them oddly charming despite being neither brightly colored nor innocuous-looking.
* The World Serpent in ''VideoGame/GodOfWarPS4'' can dip into UnintentionalUncannyValley with an odd-looking nose and human-like features but many find it endearing to see him relaxing and sleeping in the distant skyline.
* ''VideoGame/GoldenSunDarkDawn'' gave the collectable [[{{Mons}} Djinn]] more individual features, ranging from varied crests to bloated bellies to [[GrotesqueCute gaping black holes in various parts of their body that they suck enemies into]]. Because of their helpful nature when in speaking roles and [[ClassAndLevelSystem many]] [[{{Familiar}} benefits]] [[DefeatMeansFriendship once allied with you]], they're widely considered endearing and adorable, and this at the worst.
* ''VideoGame/GrimFandango'' has Glottis. He's a massive demon with a jaw full of razor-sharp teeth, but he's so [[GentleGiant energetic and friendly]] that he manages to be adorable despite/because of it.
* The headcrabs in ''VideoGame/HalfLife''. Illustrated with [[https://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/File:Kleiner_holding_lamarr.jpg Lamarr]], the pet headcrab of Doctor Kleiner, who while de-beaked and harmless, will nonetheless try to swallow your skull. Valve even makes plushes of them, though the original version was decidedly cuter and less accurate than [[https://store.valvesoftware.com/product.php?i=H0301 the current model]].
** The [[https://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Spore_Launcher spore launcher]] weapon from ''[[VideoGame/HalfLifeOpposingForce Opposing Force]]'' also counts. It's an infant version of the shock trooper enemies, and is basically a giant alien tadpole. What makes it cute though, is the fact that you reload it by hand-feeding it as it eagerly chomps down the ammo you give it. One of its idle animations has Adrian Shepherd pat it as it happily pushes its head into your stroking palm.
* ''Franchise/{{Halo}}'':
** The short and stubby little Grunts. After awhile you just feel sorry for them, while admiring their pluck, and smiling at their silly dialogue, squeaky voices, and little dog-like huffs and growls.
** The Engineers. They are essentially floating gas bladders with a long-necked head and tentacles sticking out, but they coo like small whales and shiver and recoil in fear from danger. They aren't the most attractive creatures, but they're {{Actual Pacifist}}s who are the only passive enemies in the series and eventually you will start to feel bad for killing them.
* ''VideoGame/HellgateLondon'' had pets, originally available to multiplayer subscribers only, that were intended this trope, and some players find them this way.
* The creatures of ''VideoGame/JadeCocoon 2'' quickly grow on you.
* The Dream Eaters in ''VideoGame/{{Kingdom Hearts 3D|DreamDropDistance}}'' are either this or the standard sort of cute (The [[TheGoomba Meow Wow]] being the prime example of the former). If their appearance doesn't get you to find them cute, then their downright adorable reactions to being pet and fed most likely will.
* ''Franchise/{{Kirby}}'':
** Marx plays with this trope. His standard form averts the trope entirely due to being more traditionally cute, but once he enters his true form, he plays it straight with his cross-eyed expression, fangs, and radiant wings. This form's later appearances in ''VideoGame/KirbyStarAllies'' and [[spoiler:''VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate'']] downplay the trope in two different ways: in the former, the "cute" is played up, but in the latter, [[spoiler:the "ugly" is played up]]. [[spoiler:Interestingly, Marx Soul from ''Ultra'' averts the trope [[NightmareFuel by being far scarier than before]], especially with his death scream]].
** Sillydillo from ''VideoGame/KirbyAndTheForgottenLand'' looks a little like {{WesternAnimation/Pinky|AndTheBrain}} with more than a few screws loose, but he manages to look oddly adorable despite it. Especially when he pulls out [[CompanionCube his papier-mâché armadillo dance partner]] and makes googly eyes at it. [[spoiler:Phantom Sillydillo averts this trope, however.]]
* [[https://kotaku.com/there-s-a-virtual-last-guardian-at-tgs-1731280723 Trico]] from ''VideoGame/TheLastGuardian'', who is officially designated as a griffin or sea eagle, [[MixAndMatchCritters but has elements of birds, rats, dogs, cats, and hyenas, with horns like that of a giraffe]]. The end result doesn't look like any specific creature in particular, which was intentional- the creators knew pet owners would recognize faults in Trico's behavior or appearance, had they made them a dog or cat.
* ''VideoGame/LeagueOfLegends'':
** Kog'Maw, a little critter from the Void that spews acidic goo at things. Koggy is ''adorable'' in his little mutated way with mannerisms like a puppy, and if official plushies ever hit the merch store Kog'Maw is probably close to the top of the list.
** Twitch as well. There's something oddly adorable about the derpy-eyed, crossbow-wielding, plague rat. Might be due to the resemblance to [[WesternAnimation/IceAge Scratt]].
* So many of the infected in ''VideoGame/Left4Dead'' fall under this category. The hunter falls under this especially when drawn in chibi style. The boomer looks like a chubby kid with bloated puss sacks and looks like he wants a cookie, the smoker even with his facial deformities, the tank with his humongous body and tiny head, and especially the witch who's basically a zombified CuteMonsterGirl. Valve knows the creatures they made are cute. [[https://store.valvesoftware.com/index.php?t=2 They even made plushies!]]
* In some lights, ''VideoGame/Left4Dead2'''s charger and jockey, especially because one looks like deformed hillbilly farmer and the other looks like a mentally-retarded dwarf on crack.
* ''Franchise/TheLegendOfZelda'':
** In the ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaI'' original game, a few of the dungeon bosses qualify for this trope, such as Aquamentus (the unicorn dragon...thing).
** In ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaALinkToThePast'', many of the transformed people dwelling in the Dark World are this in their cursed forms.
** ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaOcarinaOfTime'':
*** There is the Stalchild enemy. They're supposed to look like creepy skeletons, but they look like goofy looking turtles instead.
*** [[BigFun Gorons]] too, especially when they refer to you as "brother" upon befriending you. Their leader, Darunia [[spoiler:even names his future son after the player.]]
** ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTwilightPrincess'' there's Yeto and Yeta.
*** While Yeto is a giant yeti, he also has a goofy face, a friendly personality, and his demonstrations of love to his wife Yeta [[Heartwarming/TheLegendOfZeldaTwilightPrincess are among of the sweetest moments in the game]]. The fact he speaks '''[[NoIndoorVoice VERY LOUD ALL THE TIME]]''' gets less scary and more {{Adorkable}} as time goes by.
*** Despite being weird and rather disturbing in both appearance and manners, Zant still has a very clear {{Bishonen}} aura hanging over him, an aura the fandom definitely have taken note of.
*** Midna refers to herself as a "hideous little imp", but is considered by fans to be UglyCute at worst, or even just plain cute.
** Linebeck in ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaPhantomHourglass''.
** Despite being the [[EldritchAbomination embodiment of evil]], [[SealedEvilInACan The Imprisoned]] from ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaSkywardSword'' came off as this to a lot of people since it ended up looking like a ''Series/SesameStreet'' character (at least until the arms, tail, and halo-thing come out).
*** Taken to another level in ''VideoGame/HyruleWarriors'', where the Imprisoned appears as a Giant Boss... and ''shrunken'' versions of the Imprisoned can appear as enemy captains. When they appear in Legend Mode, Linkle even admits that they look kind of cute (but [[KillerRabbit acknowledges that they're still a threat]]).
*** From the same game, despite the [[BodyHorror formidable way]] the parasite Bilocyte infected poor Levias' body, the monster looks like a giant worm/frilled lizard hybrid with some traits of a puppy. Sounds weird, but it is actually quite adorable.
** ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaBreathOfTheWild'':
*** Patricia, a "sand seal" that basically looks like a walrus with a Mohawk and an intense facial expression. The cute part comes largely from her red hair bow and, according to Padda's translations, her [[PungeonMaster penchant for "painful seal puns."]]
*** The Bokoblins in this game have a more overtly monstrous and inhuman appearance than in previous games. However, their large eyes and pig-like ears and snouts come across as more cute than threatening, not to mention how [[IneffectualSympatheticVillain generally unimposing they are]]. And with the attention to detail given to them in this particular game, observing them simply [[VillainsOutShopping doing their own thing out in the wild]] can be endearing. The in-game description of the Bokoblin Mask even describes it as being "almost charming in a cute, monstrous kind of way". This sentiment was pushed by Nintendo for some promotions; not only were they sold as a plush, they're the only enemy in the game besides the Guardian Stalker to get their own amiibo.
** ''VideoGame/TheLegendOfZeldaTearsOfTheKingdom'':
*** Yona of the [[FishPeople Zora]]. A woman with a very flat, very broad head resembling a manta ray as well as ScaryTeeth wouldn't usually be considered cute. Her design nevertheless manages to pull it off. It helps that she has a sweet personality, coordinating efforts to wash the sludge away from Zora's Domain and using her HealingHands on those poisoned by it.
*** The Horriblins with their {{Gag Nose}}s essentially look like oversized proboscis monkeys, which combined with the chittering noses they make when knocked to the ground make them surprisingly cute considering they're dangerous monsters like their Bokoblin relatives.
* Gizmo, the FinalBoss from ''VideoGame/LilMonster''. It's a fanged, leathery, winged abomination... in an [[FunSize adorable chibi-package!]] (Doesn't hurt that it's an InfinityPlusOneSword-{{mon}}.)
* The little robot in ''VideoGame/{{Machinarium}}'' is made of rusty scrap metal and grunts to communicate, but is still absolutely adorable. The fact that he is a [[TheWoobie Woobie]] definitely aids the cute factor.
* ''Franchise/MassEffect'':
** Urz, a tame varren (a.k.a. "[[FanNickname fishdog]]") in ''VideoGame/MassEffect2''. Unlike most of his species, Urz will allow you to pet him, and if you feed him some pyjak meat, he will happily follow you around Tuchanka, bounding like a puppy.
** Thane manages to look like a rotting fish with the voice of a rusty lawn mower and still being a highly attractive man. Of course, Thane was ''deliberately'' designed to be [[GreenSkinnedSpaceBabe exotically alien]] but [[MrFanservice attractive]] to female players.
** Garrus is a much better example of this trope, especially after his scarring, considering female Shepard can engage in some good-natured teasing of him for being ugly (which doesn't stop you from being able to romance him). He's also considered TheWoobie both in-game and in the fandom.
** The [[TheEeyore elcor]].
** Krogan, particularly [[https://jimhuxter.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/krogan-babies.jpg their infants]].
** Grunt, a teeange (technically newborn) OptionalPartyMember who views [[PlayerCharacter Shepard]] as something of a surrogate parent figure.
* The title character of ''VideoGame/TheMaw''. It's an ExtremeOmnivore MiracleGroMonster with rows of sharp teeth and one eye. As it grows bigger it's happy chuckling become sinister-sounding laughter. Despite it all it's a cowardly creature who follows the alien player character Frank around like a little puppy and is always happy to eat, [[spoiler:and the hug between Frank and Maw's massive eyeball at the end is utterly d'awww-inducing]]. Think of ''VideoGame/ABoyAndHisBlob'' if The Blob was an EldritchAbomination.
* ''VideoGame/{{Medievil}}'' and ''VideoGame/PlaystationAllStarsBattleRoyale'' has Sir Daniel, pictured above.
* The Mars People in ''VideoGame/MetalSlug''. Especially in 6, where they salute the player. Awww...
* ''Franchise/{{Metroid}}'':
** Metroids tend to inspire this reaction. Larval Metroids (the typically encountered Metroid) look like big jellyfish with pincers underneath so they aren't that threatening by themselves (it's [[FaceHugger what they can do]] that makes them chilling). Their first stage evolution, the Alpha form (first seen in ''VideoGame/MetroidIIReturnOfSamus''), also can produce this response as they don't even have a visible way of latching onto anything (looking more like a slug that's cradling a transparent ball).
** Baby Metroids, both the plot-significant one in ''VideoGame/SuperMetroid'' and the bitty little things in ''[[VideoGame/MetroidPrime2Echoes Prime 2]]'' and ''[[VideoGame/MetroidPrime3Corruption 3]]''. Your meeting with the first one in ''VideoGame/MetroidSamusReturns'' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz1cffHJ5EY shows this off rather well]], but then [[spoiler:[[BewareTheNiceOnes Ridley finds out the hard way]] [[KillerRabbit what happens when you touch the baby's mama]]]].
** Little Birdie from ''VideoGame/MetroidOtherM'' is adorable, even when [[KillerRabbit it kills the scientists]]. [[spoiler:Turns out that it's baby Ridley!]]
** [[spoiler:Ridley's]] sleeping-state in VideoGame/SuperSmashBrosUltimate is kinda freakin' adorable.
* ''VideoGame/{{Minecraft}}'''s Creepers. Deformed pig model that's green and aptly-named, but is absolutely adorable. Same goes with the Striders in 1.16
* ''VideoGame/MonsterHunter'':
** ''VideoGame/MonsterHunter2004'':
*** There's a small Wyvern called the Yian Kut-Ku. It has an oversized head, disproportionate ears, and is generally [[https://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Y2LuuSZF6uY/SjSGpKbrtuI/AAAAAAAAAdA/QWmnHELJDf4/s400/jeu_psp_136.png very much non cute]]. However, perhaps due to its [[CuteClumsyGirl clumsy running and falling down]], his cheerful screechings and his beak feeling similar to a smiling face when open, there are few players who haven't ended up feeling some kind of odd fondness for the guy, and he's a prime target of fanart.
*** Similarly, the monster Khezu may look like a cross between an oversized maggot and male genitalia, but that doesn't stop fanartists to draw adorable little chibi versions of it. It doesn't help that some of the cutest female armor sets in the game are made of Khezu material.
** The Mini Uragaan in ''VideoGame/MonsterHunter3Tri'' and ''Ultimate'' has gained special fondness from players because of this. And its unique, cheerful battle theme, too.
* Within the ''VideoGame/MonsterRancher'' universe, the patron saint of this trope is probably the Color Pandora. It is a strange, vaguely caterpillar-esque monster with [[https://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100202010924/monsterrancher/images/a/a5/ColorPandora_3.jpg freaky human faces]] on its separated body segments... that makes high, squeaky noises and does cute acrobatic tricks. In-universe, it's hailed as a shining example of how to cooperate. Out-of-universe, its Ugly Cuteness gives it a surprising number of fans. In [[ArtShift Monster Rancher 3]] however, it's given a more [[GenericCuteness generically cute design]].
* In the ''Series/MortalKombat'' series, fans agree that Mileena [[ButterFace would be smoking hot, if not for her Tarkatan face]] and [[MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily the rows of razor-sharp teeth]] [[FanDisservice lining her maw]]. ''VideoGame/MortalKombatX'' changes things with Mileena's new design: her teeth are still quite prominent, but she now also has a fully functional pair of human lips, similar to how she appeared in ''WebVideo/MortalKombatLegacy''. ''VideoGame/MortalKombat11'' scaled her back to being lipless, though.
* Many of the mushroom people in ''VideoGame/MushroomMen'', especially the hero, Pax. Sure, he's got beady little eyes, a raggedy-looking "lost boy" style tunic, and his mushroom cap ''breaks away to reveal his brain...'' But just ''watch'' the intro, where poor little Pax is wandering all by himself in the [[MouseWorld big scary human world]], glowing eyes looking out innocently.
* [[spoiler:Post-transformation Emil]] from ''VideoGame/NieR'' is a character whose design straddles a surprisingly fine line between being considered vaguely cute and being considered downright horrifying (and for some people succeeds at being both simultaneously). Add in his sunny disposition and penchant for being a bit of a childish romantic and you now have a surprisingly adorable pseudo-mascot... with a grin that will still make people ''deeply'' uncomfortable.
* ''VideoGame/{{Oddworld}}'' is FULL of this trope. [[TheWoobie Protagonists]] Abe and Munch deserve special mention.
** Some of [[VideoGame/OddWorldStrangersWrath Stranger's]] [[AbnormalAmmo living ammo]] and the Grubbs also qualify.
** Paramites are vicious spider-like creatures with a hand for a face. Strangely, they look oddly adorable.
* The minions of ''VideoGame/{{Overlord}}'' were created specifically to evoke this trope. They look like goblins or the Film/{{Gremlins}}, but act like AxCrazy little children, loyal to a fault to their overlord and eager to earn his praise. Watching them run back to give you some of the loot they found is adorable. Or watching them grab an item (such as a pumpkin or a dead rat) and use it as equipment (in this case, a hat). Even more so in ''Overlord II'' when they sing and say adorable stuff to their mounts.
* ''VideoGame/{{Pikmin}}'': A lot of the enemies, like the [[https://pikmin.wikia.com/wiki/Toady_Bloyster toady bloyster]], [[https://pikmin.wikia.com/wiki/Ranging_Bloyster ranging bloyster]], [[https://pikmin.wikia.com/wiki/Dweevil dweevils]], and even the [[https://pikmin.wikia.com/wiki/Emperor_Bulblax emperor bulbax]] with its little eyes and flopping tongue.
* ''Videogame/Pirate101'' Has several examples among the pets that players can get, but the standout is the [[https://www.pirate101central.com/wiki/Pet:Grimtooth_Reaper Grimtooth Reaper]], a demonic shark [[FlyingSeafoodSpecial that can swim through air]], with a skin pattern that makes it look skeletal, and dark red vapor coming out of it's fins and gills. Yet it still manages to look huggable, as long as you're on it's good side.
* The zombies in ''VideoGame/PlantsVsZombies''. Wall-eyed, lopsided, with snaggle teeth and endearingly {{Narm}}-y voices. They've been very successfully merchandised as a result of this trope, with several sets of plushies and vinyl figures. Standouts include the [[MiniMook Imps]], by virtue of being FunSize with high-pitched voices. Another is the Space Cadet from ''[[VideoGame/PlantsVsZombiesBattleForNeighborville Battle For Neighborville]]'', who has the same googly eyes and {{Gonk}}-y appearance as other zombies, but is a bit smaller, is a girl and has {{Adorkable}} mannerisms.
* A lot of Franchise/{{Pokemon}} are this. Even more so in X/Y, where the Pokemon-Amie feature lets you play with your Pokemon and brings out the cuteness of a lot of species that most wouldn't think of as being cute at a first glance.
** One that comes to mind is Gible. Seriously, just [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:443Gible.png look at it!]]
** Especially [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:209Snubbull.png Snubull]] and [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:210Granbull.png Granbull]], two bulldog-based Pokémon that are said to be popular with women. In the anime, one even started acting like a ClingyJealousGirl with Meowth (or was just obsessed with biting his tail).
** Some of the Pokémon in the ''[[VideoGame/PokemonRubyAndSapphire Ruby]]'' ROM hack, ''VideoGame/PokemonQuartz'', fall under this as well, surprisingly.
** [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:349Feebas.png Feebas]], a shabby little fish Pokémon, has a secret: if you feed it many, many Dry-flavoured (blue) Pokéblocks and level it up, it turns into something that is BeautifulAllAlong, the much-coveted Milotic.
** [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:559Scraggy.png Scraggy]] also counts, since it's a lizard who wears its shed skin as pants. And it's ridiculously lovable.
** Considering that it's basically [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:104Cubone.png a chubby dinosaur]] who ''wears the skull of its dead mother'', [[BadWithTheBone Cubone]] just radiates a [[TheWoobie "hug me" aura.]]
** [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:246Larvitar.png Larvitar]] has rough skin and a blank glare, but still manages to be endearing.
** There's also [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:089Muk.png Muk]]. He's a giant pile of toxic waste, but comes across as a fairly lovable blob.
** There's also the baby Bug-type Pokémon. Most of them are based on squirming larvae that in real life you'd hit with a broom, thinking that an EldritchAbomination was here to feed on your soul. But Game Freak managed to make them cute.
** [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:595Joltik.png Joltik]] - it doesn't help that it's based on the jumping spider. Its evolution Galvantula is pretty cute too despite being a spider, especially looking at adorable artwork such as [[https://tse2.mm.bing.net/th?id=OIP.4si754vQZUhjbxP78mNEZwHaFj&pid=Api&P=0&w=300&h=300 this]]. ''[[PuppyDogEyes D'awwwwwww...]]''
** [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:618Stunfisk.png Stunfisk]], in all of its derpiness, could also qualify, as well as [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:129Magikarp.png Magikarp]].
** [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:167Spinarak.png Spinarak]]. It's a spider[[note]]Four-legged, sure, but still very arachnid[[/note]] the size of a human baby, and it's disarmingly adorable. ''VideoGame/PokemonGo'' even [[https://vignette1.wikia.nocookie.net/pokemon/images/0/09/Spinarak-GO.png/revision/latest?cb=20170223050833 renders it like a plush]].
** There are also plush toys based on chibi versions of many of the Pokémon, many of which can be considered ugly-cute, including [[HumanoidAbomination Darkrai]] and both forms of [[EldritchAbomination Giratina]].
** [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Goomy_(Pokémon) Goomy]], [[https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/goomy to the point of]] MemeticMutation.
** [[https://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:424Ambipom_Dream.png Ambipom]]. Its unusual appearance can be part of its charm.
** You probably wouldn't expect a Pokemon based on volcanic remains to be utterly adorable, but [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Heatran_(Pokémon) Heatran]] certainly fits the bill. With its derpy, bulldog-like face, its surprisingly high-pitched [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sp44T---mUw cry]], and the fact that it was the first legendary to be introduced that can be either male or female, it's hard ''not'' to fall in love with the cute, melty lava guy.
** Trubbish is literally a walking trashbag with trash limbs, but [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:Daniela_Trubbish.png just look at it]]!
** [[https://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:206Dunsparce.png Dunsparce]] is a [[CartoonCreature weird chubby snake with angel wings and a drill tail]] but still has a pretty dedicated fanbase and even plushies.
** ''VideoGame/PokemonSunAndMoon'' introduces [[https://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:0778Mimikyu.png Mimikyu]], a [[OurGhostsAreDifferent Ghost]]-[[OurFairiesAreDifferent Fairy]] type that tries to emulate Pikachu by using [[BedsheetGhost a cloth]] [[PaperThinDisguise poorly fashioned to look like a Pikachu]]. Its drawn-on "face" looks like a child scribbled it on, and its actual eyes peek out of the ''torso'' of its rag-disguise. However, its doll-like appearance and status as TheWoobie make it just as much of a RidiculouslyCuteCritter as the Pokemon it's trying to pass off as.
** The [[https://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:0747Mareanie.png Mareanie]] [[https://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:0748Toxapex.png line]] is also very cute. Even losing the CuteLittleFangs in exchange for a JaggedMouth does not really change that.
** [[https://m.archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:0207Gligar.png Gligar]] is a flying scorpion-bat with a huge stinger and claws. Perhaps these exaggerated features contribute to its charm, as well as its big eyes, its treatment of Ash in the anime, and its expressive tongue.
** Pyukumuku is based on a sea cucumber, and its signature trait is turning its digestive tract inside-out. Its name is even a portmanteau of "cucumber," "puke," and "mucus." However, [[https://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:0771Pyukumuku.png it has curious little eyes and a round, pudgy shape]]. They're also very friendly in-game, turning around to look up at the player character when you talk to them (insomuch as you can talk to a sea cucumber anyway).
** [[https://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:0160Feraligatr.png Feraligatr]] and [[https://archives.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:0260Swampert.png Swampert]] can also count, considering that one of them basically looks like an adult Totodile and the other one is a derpy mudskipper.
* ''Videogame/Portal2'': [[spoiler: [=PotatOS=]]]. On one hand, she's really just [[spoiler: an old potato with a few wires and a light that blinks when she speaks]]. On the other hand though, she looks kinda adorable in a very, ''very'' weird way. What also helps is that [=GLaDOS=] starts acting more and more human the longer she's stuck in the potato, losing her [[spoiler:AccentUponTheWrongSyllable and CreepyMonotone and [[NotSoStoic gaining a lot more emotion in her voice]], even when the situation isn't potentially lethal.]]
* ''VideoGame/{{Psychonauts}}'': The art style may look a little off-putting, but the characters make up for it in terms of their personalities.
** Dogen Boole has small, beady eyes and a jaw that juts out of his face, but he's a sweet (if absentminded) boy.
** Sheegor has wild hair, a slightly creepy face and is a hunchback, but she's a sympathetic minion who just wants to be reunited with her pet turtle.
* ''VideoGame/{{Rayman}}'''s Raving Rabbids. As well as Moskito from the first ''VideoGame/Rayman1'' game.
* The art style of ''VideoGame/SamAndMaxFreelancePolice'' produces a lot of these characters. The Soda Poppers are an example GoneHorriblyWrong, but fortunately the game lends opportunities to abuse them every time they appear.
* Amigo from ''VideoGame/SambaDeAmigo'' could count as this. He has a square head, a perpetual smile with crooked teeth[[note]]As in, the lines that divide his teeth are not drawn straight or at the same angle.[[/note]], and an overall goofy cartoon-like appearance that's kind of ridiculous. That being said, he's still a RidiculouslyCuteCritter. There are some people who think he's [[NightmareFuel creepy]], though, possibly since the way his expressions change (or ''don't'' change, in many cases) seems kind of UnintentionalUncannyValley.
* The Colossi from ''VideoGame/ShadowOfTheColossus''. Some of them are hard to kill just because they look so cute and pathetic.
* ''Franchise/SilentHill'' has the Larval Stalkers in the first game, which have no face and are almost entirely invisible. Harry will still aim his gun at them or hold his Pipe at them, and Silent Hill is one of the few games to still follow the "if it moves, kill it" rule. Naturally you just aim and empty a clip into whatever you're aiming at, but the radio still gives off static. Some people stopped in their tracks simply to watch the little child-like manifestation bumble around and fall over a few times, before finally disappearing.
** Also the [[https://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100403012947/silent/images/e/e1/Numbbody0.png Numb Bodies]] from ''VideoGame/SilentHill3'', and (to a large portion of the Japanese fandom, at least,) the [[https://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20100510221531/silent/images/d/d7/Twins01.PNG Twin Victims]] from ''VideoGame/SilentHill4''.
** Dena seems to [[https://thatguywiththeglasses.com/bt/dn/gameden/12503-gdsh302 think so]]. (3:36 minutes in). Look at 'em go!
* The alien spawn from ''VideoGame/TheSims2'' tend to turn out this way. Some players might disagree (and there are hacks out there to have the aliens be more conventionally cute) but the bug-eyed, no nosed green babies are adorable.
** The products of "Breed Ugly Sims" challenge games frequently end up in HollywoodHomely territory, being strange-looking but still very attractive (largely due to averting OnlySixFaces). The truly ugly ones, however, are inevitably this trope, and consequently ''no less popular''.
** Also Nervous Subject, who is extremely gaunt, with a mohawk haircut, almost no upper lip and small, downturned eyes. Players often sympathize with him due to his HilariouslyAbusiveChildhood and the fact that he dreams of having a family of his own despite being trapped in his family's basement.
* Arlo Bunch and Laurel Grisby from ''VideoGame/TheSims3'' (and their families) as well as many of the inhabitants of Twinbrook from ''The Sims 3: Ambitions''.
* Surprisingly, Painwheel from ''VideoGame/{{Skullgirls}}''. Take a look at her [[https://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m1ua2k1Ys21qkjvv3o1_1280.png without her mask on]]. She also appears maskless in the [[spoiler:Story Mode endings of Filia and Valentine]]. When she smiles, she's creepy ''and'' adorable!
* ''VideoGame/SonicAdventure'' has Chaos, who is fought in multiple forms over the course of the game. A few of the forms can count as examples of this trope, but the best example is probably Chaos 6.
** Some breeds of the Chao are also like this.
** Another example from Sonic are the alien slugs in ''VideoGame/ShadowTheHedgehog''. Antennae, a single eye, a goopy slug body. Some fans insist they're adorable; others find them disgusting.
** Froggy and Motobug.
** Classic Eggman. Initially averted outside of Japan, as Western localizations and media adaptations [[AmericanKirbyIsHardcore redesigned him to look less cute and more grotesque.]]
** Some of Dark Gaia's minions in ''VideoGame/SonicUnleashed'' (Spike, Little Rex, Red Rex, Dark Fright, Red Fright, Dark Bat, Dark Bat Sniper, and Thunder Bat) fall into this trope. They may look freakish, but the behavior of both the Little Rex and Red Rex make them especially endearing.
* ''Franchise/{{Splatoon}}:''
** Downplayed with the playable characters. While the BadassAdorable Inklings look mostly normal in their humanoid forms, their CuteLittleFangs include an extra one in the front bottom tooth. While meant to emulate squid beaks, it also makes them appear in dire need of braces. The playable Octolings introduced in ''VideoGame/Splatoon2'' are just as cute and also have fangs meant to invoke real-life octopus beaks, though they're arranged asymmetrically, with their bottom and top fangs on opposite sides of the mouth, making them also look in need of some dental work.
** Most Octarians are tentacles with eyes, mouth, and legs, making them look outright {{Gonk}}-ish. However, basic one-tentacled troops can sometimes be seen covering the ground in front of them in ink with a goofy smile on their faces. It manages to look kind of adorable.
** Pearl from ''VideoGame/Splatoon2''. With her ForeheadOfDoom and snaggleteeth (in addition to the three fangs Inklings normally have), she's definitely a lot uglier than most Inklings[[note]]There's a reason [[GermansLoveDavidHasselhoff international audiences prefer the more conventionally attractive Marina]] over her[[/note]]. For some, though, that's all part of her charm.
** The Salmonid Smallfry have toothy maws, ragged attire, and googly eyes, but there's something about them that makes them look adorable. This may be why you have one as a "little buddy" in ''VideoGame/Splatoon3''.
** C. Q. Cumber from ''Octo Expansion'' is a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotoplanes sea pig]], a type of sea cucumber from the deep sea (home to some of the more frightening sea creatures), and not even an anthropomorphic one like the other Denizens of the Deep. But he looks like a cross between a tiny sea slug and a gummy worm and wears a tiny conductor's hat [[spoiler:that can be worn by your player character]].
* The baby forms of most aliens you can make in ''VideoGame/{{Spore}}'' tend to be like this. Sometimes the adult forms can be, too.
* The Gnorcs from ''VideoGame/SpyroTheDragon1998'' are a race of CartoonCreature monsters that act as the primary {{mooks}} of the game. They are large and vaguely frog-like, the cartoonish-style and limited graphical capabilities of the era making them come across as rather adorable, a design choice they chose to keep for ''VideoGame/SpyroAHerosTail''. Averted in the ''VideoGame/SpyroReignitedTrilogy'' remake, where the [[ArtEvolution improvement in graphics]] make them look more like traditional [[OurOrcsAreDifferent orcs]].
* Many of the Zerg creatures from the original ''VideoGame/StarCraft'' fit this trope. The little Zerglings are quite cute on the screen, and way they pounce on the Terrans like kittens at a ball of yarn only makes them cuter. All of the wild creatures also apply, being horribly proportioned beasts that look cute in spite of it.
** Banelings. Bloated little monstrosities, with the entire back two-thirds of their body devoted to a bunch of pulsating sacs of acidic pus. Before the speed upgrade is evolved, they get around via an ungainly waddle; after the speed upgrade, they tuck themselves into balls and roll around. Their fate is to run or roll into a mass of infantry and explode. They're ''adorable''.
** Remember the Ragnasaur found on Char? Big forlorn orange eyes, irritated groan whenever you poke it...
* Quite a few of the animals in ''VideoGame/StarWarsTheOldRepublic'' both hostile and otherwise. A good example would be the Empire Balmoraa World Boss, which is an Ancient Bormu. Bormu are like Hippo-Caterpillars.
* Blanka in ''Franchise/StreetFighter'' appears frightening and intimidating at first glance (and don't be mistaken: if you're a bad guy, he ''is''), what with being a muscle-bound green-skinned beast man and all, but deep down he's just a sweet guy who loves his mom and his friends Dan and Sakura. Just look at him hugging his mother in his ending in all iterations of ''Street Fighter II''. ''Street Fighter V'' even has a story gag where he gets turned into a mascot character.
* Most of the enemies from the ''Franchise/SuperMarioBros'' series games like [[TheGoomba Goombas]] and [[OurGhostsAreDifferent Boos.]] Yes, even [[BigBad Bowser]].
** The viruses of ''VideoGame/DrMario'' are Ugly Cute, even if they are little disease-spreading creeps.
** Petey Piranha certainly is this. While he is a huge, powerful plant monster with an enormous teeth-filled maw, he has an easy-going and laid-back personality to compensate with. Add a lovable [[TheDitz imbecility]], adorable [[TheKlutz clumsiness]], [[ArsonMurderAndJaywalking and a pair of bright red polka-dot underwear]].
** Many of the bosses from the ''VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy'' games are huge and intimidating, yet rather goofy-looking. For example, the [[VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy first game]] has bosses like the [[ManEatingPlant Dino Piranha]], [[OurGhostsAreDifferent Bouldergeist]], [[GiantSpider Tarantox]] and [[CreepyCockroach Bugaboom]]. The [[VideoGame/SuperMarioGalaxy2 sequel]] has the [[EggshellClothing Peewee Piranha]], [[OurDragonsAreDifferent Gobblegut]], [[AdiposeRex Glamdozer]], and [[DishingOutDirt Squizzard]]. Then, throughout the sub-series, the trope is averted in two very different ways, with the [[RuleOfCute conventionally adorable]] [[RollingAttack Rollodillo]], and the [[NightmareFuel downright terrifying Kingfin]].
** Even Mario and Luigi have elements of this, big, comical noses and bushy mustaches aren't features usually considered cute, after all.
** To an extent Wario and Waluigi aren't exactly cute but their designs are so charming to many, people can't help to love them.
* A lot of the monsters in the 3D ''VideoGame/TalesSeries'' games are of this nature if they aren't just standard cute things.
* ''VideoGame/{{Undertale}}'':
** [[spoiler:Endogeny the amalgamate]]. Made out of innumerous dogs, has a hole for a face and shakes like a madman when pet. [[spoiler: Despite being a BodyHorror monster, it still acts like the other dogs. Playing fetch with it ends the battle immediately, you spare it by petting, and its theme song? ''Dogsong'', altough it starts creepy, it ends up at normal speed. Its outcome at the True Pacifist ending is also no less cuter. ''It turns out to be the parents of the other dogs!'']]
** Sans and Papyrus aren't exactly cute, being [[DemBones skeletons]], but they're both so goofy it's hard not to love them.
* Swampy and his SewerGator buddies from ''VideoGame/WheresMyWater''.
* ''VideoGame/WonderBoyIIITheDragonsTrap'': Book's animals forms are this in the 2017 remake's HD graphisms.
* ''VideoGame/WorldOfWarcraft'':
** One of the non-combat pets available is a baby version of a Beholder-like demon. It's a floating head with one huge eye and small stubby tentacles. It also drools a lot and randomly falls asleep. It's at the same time very ugly and absolutely adorable. Said Beholder-like demon is also named Sleepy Willy, or simply Willy. [[https://wowhead.com/item=32617#screenshots:id=24801 Here's some screenshots of the little fella.]]
** The Disgusting Oozeling, a pet that's essentially a small blob of slime.
** The Core Hound Pup. It's a sort of two-headed baby bargain-basement Cerberus with lava for skin...that plays with a chew toy.
** The Oracles are a race of sort of ugly frog-like creatures that have very cute speech. Now in hideously adorable [[https://www.wowhead.com/?spell=65381 pet]] form.
** Murky in any of his various guises. Or any of the other vanity pets.
** [[TheWoobie Broken draenei]].
** Baby Murlocs. [[https://www.wowhead.com/npc=46257#screenshots:id=197774 All together now]].
** Behold, [[https://www.wowhead.com/npc=45212/gory#comments Gory]], the Abomination. A giant golem made of rotted flesh and organs with bone and metal sticking out of him and an stomach that hangs open and exposes his innards...who only wants to be a farmer and tells you so with an innocent, childlike enthusiasm.
** ''Battle for Azeroth'' gives us crawgs, the corrupted spawn of Krag'wa the frog loa that resemble baby [[Series/StrangerThings demogorgons]]. Even more adorable in companion pet size, called - fittingly enough - [[https://www.wowhead.com/item=156566/dart Dart]].
* Most characters from ''VideoGame/YumeNikki'' are really creepy when you first see them, but when you get used to them, some of 'em are kind of... adorable. Like Uboa. Happiest-looking EldritchAbomination ever.
** And Masada seems to be a strange sort of MrFanservice, judging by parts of the fandom, and is also often seen as a [[TheWoobie Woobie]].
** If you search on Platform/DeviantART, it's easy enough to find quite a few pictures of fan-made Uboa plushies. Yes, that's right, people like to cuddle with Uboa.
** Little Monoko, aka the cutest freak of nature you've ever seen.
