* AllThereInTheManual: Some characters and themes are explained and expanded on in character sheets and by [[WordOfGod Vivienne]] herself.
** Due to Vivienne deleting various posts and sources that provided this information, this trope is being increasingly averted.
* CreatorBacklash: In [[http://zoophobia-confessions.tumblr.com/post/155212070205/update this Tumblr post]], Viv admits to being unhappy with the comic, due to her lack of experience and planning when she started and all the negativity she's received made her reflect on it poorly. This is part of the reason why it's being rebooted.
* CreatorBreakdown: Something just sort of... ''happened'' with Vivienne's personal life that made her put the comic on hiatus (and reboot it in sometime in the future). The fact that she's been the target of some rather nasty fan backlash can't have helped.
* InspirationNod:
** Major Styx's bumbling henchmen Bob and Larry are named after [[WesternAnimation/VeggieTales two famous vegetables]]. In fact, both them and Styx's dynamic is inspired by the dynamic between The Monarch, 21, and 24 from WesternAnimation/TheVentureBrothers.
** Styx's outbursts are inspired partially by characters such as [[WesternAnimation/AdventureTime LemonGrab]] and [[WesternAnimation/TheGrimAdventuresOfBillyAndMandy The Raven.]]
** Tentadora is somewhat of a homage to [[Film/WhoFramedRogerRabbit Jessica Rabbit]].
** The Devil Triplets are inspired by [[{{WesternAnimation/Animaniacs}} another zany trio.]]
* InternalHomage: Compare the original comic to the current comic.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen: The comic was initially envisioned as a quirky horror/comedy/zombie comic where there were animal students that killed each other like it was no big deal (which was considered EarlyInstallmentWeirdness). But then the story eventually progressed into being about [[http://fav.me/d2skj52 silly animals in a silly school]], before finally maturing and settling into something a tad [[LighterAndSofter more light-hearted]] though also becoming DarkerAndEdgier at the same time. The characters were also aged up from elementary students to high school students.
* WriteWhatYouKnow: Many of the themes in ''Zoophobia'' come from its creator Vivienne Medrano's own life and personal background. Native American and Hispanic themes are prevalent throughout the storyline and various character designs.
