!!Movie
* AwesomeDearBoy: Creator/RyanReynolds took a bit part in the movie solely so he could play [[ComicBook/{{Deadpool}} Wade Wilson]]. Thankfully, large amounts of backlash to the InNameOnly interpretation of this movie allowed him to take on [[Film/Deadpool2016 a much more authentic take]] on the character some time later.
* BTeamSequel: Neither Creator/BryanSinger (who directed the first two ''X-Men'' films) or Creator/BrettRatner (who directed the third one) were involved in the production of the film, although both were interested in returning to the franchise.
* CaliforniaDoubling: The film was mostly shot in New Zealand.
* CastTheRunnerUp: Creator/LievSchreiber was originally considered for the role of Colonel William Stryker, but he requested to take the role of Victor Creed, as he found that role more interesting.
* ContentLeak: An unfinished version of the film was leaked online about a month before the completed film released.
* ContractualImmortality: It ''is'' a prequel, after all. For that matter, ForegoneConclusion and SavedByCanon.
* CowboyBebopAtHisComputer: A review in ''The Straits Times'' states that Logan is American, when he is really Canadian. (It's even a minor plot point in the movie: "Your country needs you." "... I'm Canadian.")
* CreatorBacklash:
** Creator/HughJackman himself [[http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/06/01/hugh-jackman-first-wolverine/ expressed regret over this film]], admitting it fell short of his expectations. Subsequently he and the rest of the crew sought to do a better job with ''Film/TheWolverine'' and ''Film/{{Logan}}''.
** Creator/RyanReynolds [[https://twitter.com/VancityReynolds/status/593754770113835008 is in on the hate against this film's version of Deadpool as well]], even using the hashtag "[=#barakapool=]". His ''Deadpool'' movies are particularly ruthless in poking fun at this version of the character.
** Director Creator/GavinHood [[http://www.indiewire.com/article/gavin-hood-x-men-origins-wolverine-eye-in-the-sky-20160308 has even more regrets]], given ExecutiveMeddling neutered what he and Jackman wanted and took control from his hands. [[http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Why-Deadpool-Worked-Better-Time-According-Guy-Who-Directed-Him-Last-Time-122707.html Deadpool is also in his criticisms]], particularly as the character is tailor-made for an R-rating.
** Creator/TwentiethCenturyFox seems to regret the movie too, given that it allowed the many, ''many'' potshots against it in ''Film/Deadpool2016'' and the mid-credits scene of ''Film/Deadpool2''.
** Creator/LievSchreiber also expressed dissatisfaction with how Deadpool was depicted in this film, calling the character "antithetical" to how he was supposed to be portrayed, especially when compared to Creator/RyanReynolds' later work with the character. That said, he did enjoy working on this movie overall, and expressed eagerness in playing Sabretooth again if asked.
* DeletedRole: A young Storm, played by April Elleston-Enahoro, originally appeared in a couple scenes of the film, but it was all cut and relegated to the DVD. She can be still seen in a MissingTrailerScene.
* DeletedScene: [[DeletedScene/XMenFilmSeries See here]].
* DisownedAdaptation: Creator/RobLiefeld says he and Creator/JimLee went to watch the film just to see the portrayal of Deadpool (which Liefeld created) and Gambit (which Lee created) and both of them were unhappy with what the movie did to their characters and Liefeld says he wrote a note to one of Fox's executives and wanted to reshoot the film with Deadpool having a mask but Fox executives unsurprisingly scoffed him off.
* DyeingForYourArt: Creator/LievSchreiber gained a lot of muscle to play Sabretooth, enough so that he had to buy new clothes because his regular wardrobe wouldn't fit anymore.
* ExecutiveMeddling:
** The Fox executives decided to take ComicBook/{{Deadpool}}, the Merc with the Mouth and possibly one of the most popular characters appearing in the movie, introduce him and then remove him quickly, and then ''sew his mouth shut''. Because he would be too entertaining and take attention away from Wolverine or something (no-one knows the exact reason).
** Director Gavin Hood and top Fox executive Tom Rothman reportedly had clashes over the film's creative direction. One infamous incident happened while Hood was off-set, at which point Rothman took it upon himself to have one of the sets repainted from Hood's original DarkerAndEdgier theme into something more LighterAndSofter.
** Hood has also stated that the scripting process was a mess, and that portions of the screenplay were hastily rewritten ''as the movie was filming''.
* FranchiseKiller: The film was a brief Franchise Killer for the ''X-Men'' movies, since it was intended to take the franchise in a different direction following the original trilogy, but the terrible reaction to it killed these plans and a different (and much more successful) direction was chosen in the semi-reboot ''Film/XMenFirstClass''.
* NoStuntDouble: The stunt co-ordinator estimated that Creator/HughJackman and Creator/LievSchreiber did about 95/% of their own stunts.
* OldShame: Creator/HughJackman isn't proud of the film, as he felt it did little justice to his character despite the high praise he received for his performance in an otherwise underwhelming movie; he helped make up for it with ''Film/TheWolverine'' and ''Film/{{Logan}}''.
* OnSetInjury: Music/{{WillIAm}} scarred his knuckles after he accidentally punched the camera.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** Tyler Mane played Sabretooth in ''Film/XMen1''. He was replaced by Creator/LievSchreiber for this movie. A tie-in comic had to be released to explain why was he supposed to look so different between the films (apparently, he was mindwiped and experimented on to make him bigger and more feral).
** Also, Stryker was played by Creator/BrianCox in ''Film/X2XMenUnited'', and by TimeshiftedActor Creator/DannyHuston here.
* PromotedFanboy:
** Music/WillIAm was a fan of the X-Men franchise who identified Nightcrawler as his favorite character, and was subsequently cast to play a mutant with similar teleporting powers.
** Similarly, Creator/RyanReynolds was a big fan of Deadpool, and his disappointment in this film's handling of the character led him to campaign for years for a better treatment of him on the big screen. [[Film/Deadpool2016 To the joy of all, he succeeded gloriously.]]
** Creator/KevinDurand was a fan of the movies and contacted the producers for a role as soon as news of a new film came out.
** Creator/DanielHenney was an X-Men fan.
* RecycledSet: The New Orleans set is the same set that was used (though slightly reconfigured) as the fire escape outside Creator/DemiMoore's apartment in ''Film/StElmosFire''.
* ShowAccuracyToyAccuracy: The action figure based on this movie's incarnation of Deadpool doesn't look exactly like how he looks in the film, with the figure having bandages on each arm, the marks oon his body being red instead of black and the blades looking oddly shaped, probably a case of [[{{Bowlderlize}} bowlderization]] due to the toyline being aimed at children. Funko did released in 2020 a more faithful figure part of its Pop! line.
* StillbornFranchise: Played straight, but eventually subverted. This movie was intended to be the first installment of an ''X-Men Origins'' film series [[{{Spinoff}} spun off]] from Fox's ''Film/XMenFilmSeries'', to be followed by ''X-Men Origins: Magneto'', ''X-Men Origins: Deadpool'', and ''X-Men Origins: Gambit''. After disappointing reviews for ''Wolverine'', the ''Magneto'' script was eventually incorporated into the much better-received ''Film/XMenFirstClass'' and the ''X-Men Origins'' series was scrapped. Years later, Fox would put resources into making ''Film/Deadpool2016'' and ''Gambit'' movies (although after countless delays and Fox's merger with Disney, the ''Gambit'' movie was finally shelved in May of 2019), but without any actual connection to this film.
* TroubledProduction: Filming was delayed by weather and Creator/HughJackman's commitments with ''Film/{{Australia}}'', begun with an unfinished screenplay that was rushed due to the then upcoming 2007-2008 writer's strike - director Gavin Hood detailed that during shooting in Australia, script pages would be sent from LA, at times in the night prior to them being filmed; also, characters such as Gambit and Deadpool were late additions, explaining why the former appears so little and the latter wound up [[InNameOnly changed to an unfaithful version]] - and saw Hood entering conflicts with Fox executive and overall bean counter Tom Rothman micromanaging every aspect, right down to repainting sets without telling Hood. Even the movie's title was changed without Hood being informed, with Jackman telling him once he saw it on IMDB. Plus, the second unit didn't match Hood's style, making him feel the action scenes were like ones in an 80s flick. Eventually Creator/RichardDonner (husband of producer Lauren Shuler Donner) was forced to join production in order to mellow out things. And an incomplete version with missing special effects leaked online one month before the film's premiere. The film could have ridden out the bad critical and fan reception like [[Film/XMenTheLastStand the previous film]], if not for the disappointing box office. This caused the series to get a partial reboot with ''Film/XMenFirstClass''.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Creator/MichaelCHall was considered for the role of William Stryker before Creator/DannyHuston was cast. Creator/BrianCox also expressed an interest in reprising the role, using the same de-aging technology that had been utilized in ''Film/XMenTheLastStand'', but Fox considered that casting Huston would be cheaper.
** Creator/GerardButler and Creator/KarlUrban were considered for the part of [[Comicbook/{{Sabretooth}} Victor Creed]] before the casting of Creator/LievSchreiber. Urban would eventually go on to portray [[TheDragon Skurge the Executioner]] in ''Film/ThorRagnarok''.
** Creator/MichelleMonaghan was offered the role of Kayla Silverfox before Creator/LynnCollins was cast. However, Monaghan turned it down due to scheduling conflicts, despite her enthusiasm to work with Creator/HughJackman.
** Creator/ChrisHemsworth, Creator/AldenEhrenreich and Creator/ScottPorter screen-tested for [[Comicbook/{{Gambit}} Remy LeBeau]] before the casting of Creator/TaylorKitsch. Hemsworth would later go on to play [[Comicbook/TheMightyThor Thor]] in the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse.
** Creator/DavidHarbour auditioned for the part of the Blob before Creator/KevinDurand was cast, but ironically lost out due to being too fat for the scenes meant to take place ''before'' the character put on weight. Harbour would eventually portray Red Guardian in ''Film/{{Black Widow|2021}}'' set within the Franchise/MarvelCinematicUniverse.
** Creator/EdgarWright was approached for the role of Chris Bradley before the casting of Creator/DominicMonaghan. However, Wright turned the offer, citing that he wasn't a good enough actor.
** [[Comicbook/{{Gambit}} Remy LeBeau]] and [[Comicbook/{{Cyclops}} Scott Summers]] weren't in previous drafts, and the guy Logan went to see in New Orleans was actually Barbarus, an obscure Savage Land character from the comics.
** [[Comicbook/{{Deadpool}} Wade Wilson]] almost didn't appear in the movie either. The original final battle was going to be against a pack of feral, crazed Sabretooth clones. Presumably, this would've explained why Sabretooth doesn't speak very much and acts like a savage beast in the original ''Film/XMen1'' movie, with the implication that the Sabretooth working for Magneto was actually just [[ActuallyADoombot one of the surviving clones]].
* WordOfGod: Creator/BryanSinger revealed that Kayla's sister Emma is not Emma Frost.
* WritingByTheSeatOfYourPants: Gavin Hood has stated that the scripting process was a mess, and that portions of the screenplay were hastily rewritten as the movie was filming.

!!Video Game
* EarlyDraftTieIn: Some elements of the game draw from an earlier draft of the film's script, most notably the Sabretooth clones in the final level.
* TheOtherDarrin: Ryan Reynolds was going to voice Wade Wilson in the video game but because of his unhappiness with the film, Creator/SteveBlum voiced Wade.
* RoleReprise: When the game adaptations were released, only three actors from the film reprised their roles: Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber and Will.i.am. The other characters have had their designs retweaked to not be exact carbon copies of their actors; Gambit barely looks like Taylor Kitsch, for instance.
