1* AwesomeDearBoy: As Julius Schwartz enjoyed telling, Creator/AlanMoore grabbed him by the throat and threatened to kill him if he didn't let him write the story. According to Moore himself, he just said "yes" when Schwartz asked him if he wanted to write it.
2* AllStarCast: The story was penned by the legendary Creator/AlanMoore, who wrote some of the most thought-provoking ''Superman'' tales, and iconic [[UsefulNotes/TheSilverAgeOfComicBooks Silver Age]] ''Superman'' 1950's comic book artists Curt Swan and Kurt Schaffenberger. Perhaps the most fitting farewell to the classic Supes you can get.
3* WhatCouldHaveBeen: Jerry Siegel, Superman's co-creator and original writer, was offered the chance to write this story (and wanted to accept), but unfortunately couldn't [[ScrewedByTheLawyers for legal reasons]]. Though, if nothing else, Siegel’s ''ComicBook/TheDeathOfSuperman1961'' story gives us a possible glimpse into how he might’ve ended the story.
4* WordOfSaintPaul: Creator/AlanMoore in interviews clarified that regardless of how DC classifies and manages its continuity, he wrote the story under the intent that it is Superman's last adventure and true ending for the entire mythos.
