* ActorInspiredElement: Rob Lowe's use of "LITERALLY" was thrown in by him due to his natural propensity for the word. [[Series/ParksAndRecreation This apparently never ended]].
* ApprovalOfGod: According to Brian May, Music/FreddieMercury [[https://www.guitarworld.com/artists/brian-may-wayne-s-world-bohemian-rhapsody-scene-hit-close-home watched a rough cut of the film]], including the "Bohemian Rhapsody" scene, shortly before dying of AIDS. However, Penelope Spheeris doubts this story, noting that the film was being actively edited until right before its release, so it's highly unlikely anyone could have gotten hold of a VHS copy to bring to Mercury.
* BTeamSequel: Penelope Spheeris, who directed the first film, was approached by Paramount to direct the sequel. Spheeris immediately declined the offer due to the fact that Creator/MikeMyers had been so difficult to work with during the making of the first film. Instead veteran TV director Stephen Surjik was chosen to direct ''Wayne's World 2'', his first and only feature film. Spheeris would not make peace with Mike Myers until after the release of ''Film/AustinPowersInternationalManOfMystery''.
* BoxOfficeBomb: The sequel has a budget of $40 million, but only made back $48.2 million domestically in the box office.
* CaliforniaDoubling: Both films are set in Illinois, but mountains and palm trees seen in some scenes reveal that it was shot in California.
* CareerResurrection: The film revived Creator/RobLowe's career following his sex-tape scandal.
* TheCastShowoff:
** Creator/DanaCarvey really did play Garth's incredible drum solo.
** Creator/TiaCarrere really does her own singing in the first film.
** Music/AliceCooper really is a BadassBookworm in real life.
** Mike Myers speaks fluent Cantonese. Wayne's dialogue in the language is 100% authentic, if ''profoundly'' accented.
* CreatorBacklash: Carvey has expressed embarrassment over the sequel, which was rushed into production after the surprise success of the first film, though most of what he dislikes about the film is how unconvincing he looks as Garth, who is supposed to be much younger than him.
* CreativeDifferences: Creator/MikeMyers and Penelope Spheeris argued over the final cut of the film. Myers then blocked Spheeris from directing the sequel.
* DawsonCasting: The film never directly states Wayne and Garth's ages, but they're supposed to be in their early 20s. Myers was 29 and Carvey was 37 when the first film was released. Carvey has talked about how embarrassed he is about how old he looks in the sequel.
* {{Defictionalization}}: As of the film's 25th anniversary, you can visit Noah's Arcade in the real life town of Aurora, Illinois, [[http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/aurora-beacon-news/opinion/ct-abn-crosby-waynes-world-st-0206-20170206-column.html inside local restaurant Luigi's Pizza and Fun Center.]]
** Back when Paramount owned a chain of regional theme parks, they added ''Wayne's World'' themed rollercoasters called "the Hurler" to some of the park and this included actual Stan Mikita's Donuts restaurants; when CBS (successor to the old Viacom) sold the parks to Cedar Fair, the Paramount theming was removed and the Stan Mikita's became other restaurants.
* DeletedRole: Creator/JoeyLaurenAdams filmed a scene for the sequel, but her scene was later deleted during editing.
* EnforcedMethodActing: Wayne laughing while he and Garth talk about cartoons was a real and unscripted reaction from Myers due to being delirious from exhaustion.
* ExecutiveMeddling: Mike Myers wanted the original sketch to take place in his native Toronto. However SNL Producers made him use a suburban American setting. Nevertheless Wayne speaks with a strong Canadian accent, uses Stan Makita’s Doughnuts as a thinly veiled {{Expy}} of Canada’s beloved Tim Horton’s, and plays street hockey as a recreational activity while wearing Blackhawks attire instead of Maple Leafs (although hockey is popular in Chicago as well). The Gasworks Club is also a real location in Toronto.
* FakeNationality:
** Cassandra, who comes from UsefulNotes/HongKong, is played by Creator/TiaCarrere, an American actress (born and raised in UsefulNotes/{{Hawaii}}) of Filipino, Chinese, and Spanish descent. She was not fluent in Cantonese, so this complicated some scenes.
** Jeff Wong, Cassandra's father, is played by Creator/JamesHong, an American actor (born in [[UsefulNotes/TwinCities Minneapolis, Minnesota]]).
* FollowTheLeader: The first movie's success inspired the productions of all succeeding ''Series/SaturdayNightLive'' movies.
* HostilityOnTheSet: According to Penelope Spheeris, Creator/MikeMyers was difficult to work with. He arrived on set one day to discover that the snack table only had butter and not margarine for his bagel. Myers reportedly became enraged, flipped the table over, stormed off the set, and did not come out of his trailer for hours. She assigned her daughter to be his assistant. She told Entertainment Weekly: "He (Myers) was emotionally needy and got more difficult as the shoot went along. 'You should have heard him bitching when I was trying to do that "Bohemian Rhapsody" scene: 'I can't move my neck like that! Why do we have to do this so many times? No one is going to laugh at that!' To this day, I have this image of my daughter sitting on this little cooler, looking at me, like, "Mom, I f-ing hate you". Spheeris was not brought back for the sequel, mostly for fighting Myers over the final edit. With that being said, in later interviews Spheeris has been more positive talking about working with Myers and excused some of his behavior to him losing his father during production, and the two have seemingly made up since.
* LifeImitatesArt: Many guitar stores really do have signs telling patrons not to play "Stairway to Heaven," since it's massively overplayed by guitarists who [[DreadfulMusician frankly aren't all that good at guitar]].
* NoStuntDouble: Creator/DanaCarvey performed the stunt in the sequel where Garth drops and hits the carpet when he kisses Honey Horne.
* OrphanedReference: Apparently, the brief scene with Garth and Benjamin where Garth is working on some sort of robotic arm then smashes it with a hammer, is a remnant of an aborted subplot where Garth would've tried to kill Benjamin.
* PlayingAgainstType: Up until this film, Creator/RobLowe was known for appearing in dramas of various flavors. He made such a splash that he began appearing in more comedies afterwards.
* ProductionPosse: Creator/MikeMyers and Creator/DanaCarvey reunited to bring ''Wayne's World'' to the big screen with Creator/LorneMichaels producing. Creator/RobLowe was also brought in by Myers because the two of them got along so well on ''Series/SaturdayNightLive'', with Lowe appearing in many of Myer's subsequent projects. The film also features fellow SNL player Chris Farley in a cameo.
* TheRedStapler: ''Wayne's World'' gave the AMC Pacer the kitsch appeal that makes it a collectible today.
* RevivalByCommercialization:
** Music/{{Queen|Band}}'s [[Music/ANightAtTheOpera "Bohemian Rhapsody"]] returned to the charts after nearly two decades; after the first movie, it was back in the Top 10, helped along by Queen's newfound PosthumousPopularityPotential following Music/FreddieMercury's death just three months prior.
** Music/JoanJett's "I Love Rock and Roll" also received a boost in popularity after it was featured in ''Wayne's World 2''.
* SleeperHit: Nobody expected the first ''Wayne's World'' film to be as successful as it was. Although it was made on a modest $20 million budget, it remained the number 1 film at the box office for five weeks after its release and ended up grossing $121,697,323 in the United States alone. The film also became a pop culture phenomenon, with words like "schwing" and "that's what she said" entering the popular lexicon and the song "Bohemian Rhapsody" becoming a hit with a new generation of young people who had never heard it before. It didn't take Paramount very long to greenlight the sequel.
* StarMakingRole: The first ''Wayne's World'' film was such a hit that it launched Mike Myers's film career. It was also Creator/TiaCarrere's first starring role (though she had done minor film and television roles earlier), and vaulted her to stardom.
* TeasingCreator: Myers and Carvey have reprised their roles to make a few appearances, causing fans to speculate that a third film is underway. Myers has shot down these rumors every time.
* TechnologyMarchesOn: Wayne puts a CD in his dashboard CD player and Cassandra asks him when he got a CD player. He responds "When we got the money!" (that he had gotten from selling the rights to his cable access show). Even though the CD format had already overtaken vinyl records as the dominant format for music listening on a home stereo, ''portable'' CD players were still pricey at the time and were appropriately considered status symbols-- cassette tapes were still big in 1991, with CD sales only overtaking prerecorded cassettes the year the film was released, with cassettes remaining popular for years afterward for home recording until CD burners and [=MP3=] players became affordable in the late '90s. Nowadays, while people will still be amazed at the thought of owning a CD player, now it's less because it's "cool" and more because it's "outdated," with physical media largely overtaken by digital downloads and streaming even in the wake of the vinyl record's ongoing resurgence in popularity.
* ThrowItIn:
** The scene with Wayne and Garth talking on the hood of their car was the last scene filmed. Since everyone was delirious from an exhausting shoot, and just wanted the movie done, they ad-libbed it. Mike Myers hysterical response was genuine.
** The reason Wayne and Garth rarely turn their heads to look at one another, instead turning their entire torsos in one another's direction, was the result of everyone's neck getting sore from doing so many takes of the headbanging scene.
** According to Spheeris, when Wayne is asking the bouncer (Music/MeatLoaf) about the bands playing, the "Jolly Giants and the Shitty Beatles" answer was made up by Meat Loaf on the spot.
* TroubledProduction: While the film was finished on-time and on-budget, it was a grueling experience for all involved.
** Myers' father was dying during the shoot, and he says he barely remembers filming because of the emotional strain. The experience also resulted in him having emotional outbursts that strained his relationship with Director Penelope Spheeris and the crew.
** Myers was also constantly fighting ExecutiveMeddling from producers who didn't "get" the film and wanted to make a number of changes that Myers categorically refused to make (ironically, this is part of the movie's plot as well).
** Spheeris said that she had to shoot each scene three times, once Myers' way, once Carvey's way, and once Creator/LorneMichaels' way. She also fought with Myers over the final cut of the film. Spheeris did not return for the sequel, allegedly due to Myers' influence.
* UnderageCasting: In ''Wayne's World 2'', Ralph Brown plays Del Preston, a retired roadie that worked with many classic rock groups, including Music/{{The Rolling Stones|Band}} and Music/TheDoors, in the 1970s. Brown was 36 at the time the movie was made, too young to have ever met Doors frontman Jim Morrison, who passed away in 1971.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Creator/MikeMyers wanted Creator/FedericoFellini to direct the sequel. Paramount, thinking Myers was joking, quickly squashed that idea.
** The studio wanted to use "Welcome to the Jungle" by Music/GunsNRoses instead of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", but Mike Myers fought for the inclusion of the Queen song. Myers even threatened to quit the production if he didn't get what he wanted, and eventually the studio gave in to his demand.
** Mike Myers originally wanted Music/AliceCooper's "I'm Eighteen" and "School's Out" in the film, but Cooper's manager Shep Gordon convinced him to use "Feed My Frankenstein" instead.
** Mike Myers' original idea for ''Waynes World 2'' was as a remake of the 1949 British comedy ''Film/PassportToPimlico''. He went ahead and wrote the script without checking whether Paramount Studios had obtained the rights first. By the time it went into pre-production it was too late. Buying the rights at that late stage would have delayed the release and cost the studio millions of dollars. Paramount exec Sherry Lansing brought Myers to her office and angrily yelled at him, threatening to sue him and take away his house unless he rewrote the screenplay. A chastened Myers agreed and wrote a new story for ''Waynes World 2''.
** Music/{{Nirvana}} was offered a part in the sequel as one of the performers in Waynestock and they were even shown a rough cut of the film to try to persuade them, but they eventually declined.
** A third movie was offered by the studio after the sequel was released, but Mike Myers turned it down to focus on other projects.
** Rob Lowe was set to come back for the second film, and was even at a table reading for the script, but was reportedly removed from the film by his manager. Bobby, played by Creator/ChristopherWalken, is a rewritten version of what Lowe's part would've been.
** The sequel was set to originally release in the summer of 1994, but Paramount pushed the release up due to a lack of solid Winter 1993 releases, leading it to be heavily rushed.
* WriteWhatYouKnow: Mike Myers, like Wayne, had an obsessive ex-girlfriend who bought him a gun rack (albeit as a joke) in the hopes that it would convince him to get back with her. She was reportedly furious when she saw the finished film.
** Dana Carvey based his entire portrayal of Garth on his similarly geeky brother Brad Carvey. Brad was one of the co-creators of the Platform/{{Amiga}}-based VFX machine Video Toaster, and this resulted in Garth wearing a Video Toaster T-shirt in the sequel.
* WritingByTheSeatOfYourPants: The script for the sequel was still incomplete and several roles were yet to be cast only a month before filming was set to begin. With few other projects scheduled for release that winter, however, Paramount rushed the film into production.
* YouLookFamiliar: Creator/ChrisFarley has a cameo in the first film as a security guard ([[ChekhovsGun who provides a lot of seemingly useless information]]); in the second film, he plays a member of Wayne's crew named Milton.
