* BreakawayPopHit: Music/NewOrder's "Here to Stay", written for the film, peaked at No. 15 on the UK Singles chart despite its lack of marketing outside a music video featuring the film's cast, and is generally remembered on its own merits-- often considered one of the band's best post-''Music/{{Republic}}'' singles-- rather than as an element of the movie. The film, meanwhile, has fallen into obscurity outside of Music/JoyDivision and New Order fans, in part due to the 2007 Ian Curtis biopic ''Film/{{Control}}'' eclipsing it.
* DeletedRole: Footage was shot featuring Music/TheStoneRoses as characters, but this was never used. Guitarist John Squire claims the filmmakers "sent me a release form so I could authorise my scenes, but I didn't bother. Which is probably why we didn't appear in it at all."
* HarpoDoesSomethingFunny: Creator/MichaelWinterbottom actively encouraged Creator/SteveCoogan to improvise in his portrayal of Tony Wilson. This was quite easy for Coogan who had actually worked with Wilson in the past.
* ProductionPosse: Creator/SteveCoogan would go on (as of 2015) to appear in four more Creator/MichaelWinterbottom films, ''[[Literature/TristramShandy A Cock and Bull Story]]'', ''Series/TheTrip'', ''The Look Of Love'', and ''The Trip To Italy''. Creator/ShirleyHenderson (who plays Tony Wilson's wife) had appeared previously in ''Wonderland'' and ''The Claim'', and would later appear in ''Shandy'', ''Everyday'', and ''The Look Of Love''. Creator/RobBrydon (who appears briefly as a journalist interviewing Tony) would go on to appear in ''[[Literature/TristramShandy A Cock and Bull Story]]'', ''Series/TheTrip'', and ''The Trip To Italy''.
* ScrewedByTheLawyers: Music/{{Morrissey}} forbade the use of Music/TheSmiths' music in the film due to a dispute with both Tony Wilson and Creator/FactoryRecords that extended back to the band's early days, when they caught the interest of Wilson but were turned down because he didn't like the quality of the demos they sent to Factory.
