* ActingForTwo: Tokyo Subaru and Tokyo Kamui are both voiced by Creator/MicahSolusod in the English dub.
* BeamMeUpScotty: Mokona's CatchPhrase "Mokona Modoki Modoki Doki!" is one of the most recognizable quotes of the series, but it was actually created for the anime; in the manga, she doesn't say anything remotely similar.
* BTeamSequel: ''Tokyo Revelations'' and ''Shunraiki'' [=OVAs=] were done by Creator/ProductionIG and written by Nanase Ohkawa herself which [[CanonDiscontinuity ignored the filler episodes after the Rekord arc]] and continued the manga storylines starting with the Acid Tokyo arc. Unlike the other examples of this trope, those were well received by fans.
* ChristmasRushed: Creator/BeeTrain was given six months to complete the anime in time for its premiere. The result speaks for itself.
* CompletelyDifferentTitle: In Spain, the anime was renamed as "Tsubasa: Crónicas de Sakura" ("Tsubasa: Chronicles of Sakura"), not only because the original title would have been almost impossible to translate literally, but also in order to capitalize on the huge national popularly of ''Manga/CardcaptorSakura'', which was distributed by the same company.
* CreatorBacklash: CLAMP was reportedly dissatisfied on how the manga storyline progressed, acknowledging that they had gone too far with the MindScrew.
* CreatorKiller: Although both the manga and its sister series ''Manga/XXXHOLiC'' were hugely successful and critically well received, their MindScrew ending was so unpopular with their readers that it put a permanent stain on CLAMP's perceived ability (or lack thereof) to give their series good conclusions. No CLAMP product since those two (and even older ones put on hiatus like ''Manga/{{X1999}}''!) has avoided being seen with mistrust or alarm due to the possibility that it may end in another weird mess.
* DisownedAdaptation: CLAMP was disgruntled with how the anime adaptation turned out to be due to its TroubledProduction and the [[ChristmasRushed tight deadline]] NHK gave Creator/BeeTrain. It reached the highest point in the first season finale, where a spell caused [[BackFromTheDead dead people to revive]] - which ''nullifies'' all the plot of ''Tsubasa''! The first season finale also created a PlotHole as the characters were fighting with the main villains mooks, as by that point in the story the main characters were unaware there was a villain who had connections to the heroes. The studio undid it the next season, but the damage was already done, and both CLAMP and Bee Train pulled the plug on a potential third season. [[ChannelHop The anime production staff was switched]] from Creator/BeeTrain to its parent company Creator/ProductionIG to produce the ''Tokyo Revelations'' [=OVAs=].
* ExecutiveMeddling: NHK and Creator/BeeTrain produced the ''Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle'' anime akin to the adaptation of ''Manga/CardCaptorSakura'', thus toning down the violence and not going into the darker chapters in the manga. To top it all off, NHK only gave Creator/BeeTrain six months to produce the anime. The second season had a lackluster reception and the studio was changed to Creator/ProductionIG for the OVA.
* FranchiseKiller: The anime's lukewarm reception helped lead to both CLAMP and Creator/BeeTrain pulling the plug on a potential third season. It doesn't help that Bee Train became dormant since 2012 and director Creator/KoichiMashimo retired from the industry.
* HeAlsoDid: The animation director for the movie, Kyoji Asano, would also go on to design the characters for the ''Manga/AttackOnTitan'' adaptation.
* NoExportForYou:
** Neither "Tokyo Revelations" nor "Shunraiki" ever reached Spain, a country where ''Manga/CardCaptorSakura'' (and by extension ''Tsubasa'') was amazingly popular. Casual viewers never learned how the ''Tsubasa'' storyline continued.
** With the exception of Spain, Season 2 was never released ''anywhere'' in Europe. Granted, most of it was filler, but if you want to see the Piffle and Lecourt world arcs animated and don't live in Japan, Spain or America, you're out of luck.
* TheOtherDarrin:
** Creator/MasakiTerasoma voiced Fei Wang Reed in the ''Tokyo Revelations'' OVA instead of Kazuhiro Nakata.
** Kusanagi and Tomoyo got their dub [=VAs=] replaced in the [=OVAs=].
** [[BigBad Fei Wang Reed]] was first voiced by Randy Tallman in the dub but had to be replaced with R. Bruce Elliot for the second season, following Tallman's death.
** The European Spanish dubs of the movie and the anime were respectively done by completely different casts due to a dynastic war of distribution companies. It started when distributor Jonu Media chose to dub the ''Manga/CardcaptorSakura'' movies with their own [=VAs=] instead of those who had voiced the anime, Arait Multimedia's voicecast, which caused a great offense to both Arait and the fandom. In response, after Jonu dubbed the ''Tsubasa'' movie and in turn lost the rights of the anime to Arait, the latter refused to use Jonu's voice actors and instead used their own, which also was the original cast from ''Sakura''. The return of the voices was much better liked by the fans, but the subsequent heat with Jonu pretty much rendered the [=OVAs=] impossible to be distributed in Spain.
* PostScriptSeason: The TV series ended with a filler arc, so the ''Tokyo Revelation'' [=OVAs=] had to begin with a ResetButton.
* RoleReprise: Creator/AyaHisakawa, who voiced Kero from ''Manga/CardcaptorSakura'', reprised her role in one of the filler episodes.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: NHK made the anime adaptation more appealing to younger audiences as with ''Cardcaptor Sakura''; for the second season, Bee Train produced {{filler}} episodes. The lukewarm reception of the series, combined with CLAMP's discontent with the adaptation, resulted in the series being axed altogether.
* SelfAdaptation: Nanase Ohkawa personally wrote the script for the ''Tokyo Revelation'' OVA.
* SheAlsoDid: The series' composer, Music/YukiKajiura, would also go on to compose music for other anime, including ''Manga/PandoraHearts'', the ''Literature/TheGardenOfSinners'' films, ''Literature/SwordArtOnline'', ''Anime/PuellaMagiMadokaMagica'', ''Literature/FateZero'' and ''Manga/{{Erased}}''.
* StudioHop: The TV series was produced by Creator/BeeTrain, while the ''Tokyo Revelation'' [=OVAs=] were produced by Creator/ProductionIG.
* TroubledProduction: NHK jump-started the animated adaptation in late 2004. But then ExecutiveMeddling started to bring the project down. NHK felt that the manga was too DarkerAndEdgier for the series to be broadcast and pushed Creator/BeeTrain for a recreation of a LighterAndSofter anime adaptation similar to ''Cardcaptor Sakura'' within [[ChristmasRushed six months of production time]]. Then Bee Train replaced CLAMP's storyboard for the second opening and created filler episodes for the next season. The series was eventually broadcast to a middling reception. The plans for a third season were ditched, and Creator/ProductionIG continued the series with the ''Tokyo Revelations'' [=OVAs=].
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** CLAMP originally planned for [[spoiler:Fai to die during the Celes arc.]]
** CLAMP originally did a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIO8YQnR5t8 storyboard]] for the second season opening. The concept was dropped, however, when Creator/BeeTrain decided to use a slideshow instead.
