* CreatorBacklash:
** Creator/ElizaDushku was incredibly annoyed at how idiotic her character was being written; she had signed on under the belief it would be another super-powered woman show. The scripts constantly wrote Tru as being bewildered, overwhelmed or shocked - but never confident or sure of herself.
** Creator/ZachGalifianakis apparently hated the show to the point that it caused him to be a huge {{Jerkass}} on the set.
* HostilityOnTheSet: Creator/ZachGalifianakis was never fond of the show, even while making it; reports indicated that he would be apathetic during script reading sessions or openly mock the quality of the writing.
* MissingEpisode: The final episode wasn't seen by fans in America until Season 2 was released on DVD, because the season was postponed until spring (the episode was set around {{Christmas|Episode}}).
* PlayingAgainstType: The comedian Creator/ZachGalifianakis in a rare dramatic role.
* ScrewedByTheNetwork: Slotted against ''Series/{{CSI}}'' and ''Series/{{Survivor}}'', cancelled six episodes into the second season, which was then postponed for months - and then the final episode went completely unaired until the Sci-Fi channel picked up the series. One of the worst treatments of a good Spec-Fi show since ''Series/{{Firefly}}''... probably less surprising when you learn they aired about a year or two apart on the same network. Worse, it was initially renewed for a thirteen episode season two. Then the order was cut to about half, and then it was dropped from the schedule. Six months later, they air a couple episodes back to back, then pull the show entirely.
* WagTheDirector: According to her mother, Creator/ElizaDushku refused to do a scene where Tru doesn't know what a map is and needs a man's help.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** Creator/JensenAckles was originally going to play [[TheDanza Jensen]], but had to drop out due to his then-commitment to ''Series/{{Smallville}}''. The character ended up named after him.
** Jensen would have become a SerialKiller if the show had gone on, due to losing his soul when Tru saved his life after he died but didn't ask for help. Which, if Jensen Ackles had been available to play him, wouldn't have been the first time he'd had such a role - he played clone brothers Ben and Alec on ''Series/DarkAngel'' and the former of the two was a SerialKiller. In fact, Doris Egan, writer of the episode that introduced Ben, was now on the staff for ''Tru Calling'' and was the one who recommended Jensen for the part.
** Creator/ElizaDushku had to choose between this show and a spinoff for her Franchise/{{Buffyverse}} character, Faith.
** The original pilot included a male friend for Tru, implied to have an attraction to her. He was mostly cut out of the finished pilot and not part of the series.
* WordOfGod: After the show was canceled, Doris Egan posted [[http://tightropegirl.livejournal.com/8190.html four liveblog journals]] detailing the direction the second season arcs were going. Other storylines included more variations on the standard plot (hinted at in the final episode) such as Tru and Jack being able to take other people with them on their rewinds. We would also see Jack start a relationship with a beautiful female motorcycle cop he meets during a bank siege, Tru saving her half sister after she is killed and the season ending with Jack's corpse on the slab asking Tru to save him.
