Context Trivia / TheNostalgiaChick

Go To

* ActingForTwo: In the [=NChick=] labs, Nella is in the same room with her MadScientist self while Elisa plays both The Makeover Fairy and Dr. Tease. Elisa has lampshaded this in a formspring question, saying that the Makeover Fairy [[VanityIsFeminine was too obsessed with looking good]] to notice a woman looking almost exactly like her.
* AuthorsSavingThrow:
** The Chick said she regretted the episode she did with the Critic about ''Film/MoulinRouge'', as she's actually a fan of the film. In her analysis of the 2004 film version of ''[[Film/ThePhantomOfTheOpera2004 Phantom of the Opera]]'', she uses ''Moulin Rouge'' as a comparison.
** The team were getting a lot of flack over the "Nella abuse", which some took way too seriously and thought it was happening in real life. So Lindsay made a "Thanks For Your Feedback", detailing that the Nostalgia Chick had sinfully low self-esteem and was paying Nella to make her look better. This seems to have also influenced "the [[SuperpoweredEvilSide Dark Nella]] Saga," where the [[PowersViaPossession evil entity possessing Nella]] gets revenge on the Chick for all the hell she put her through. (Note that the "Nella abuse" has pretty much stopped since the Saga ended.)
* {{Blooper}}:
** During the ''WesternAnimation/{{Bratz}}'' episode, when the Critic is [[SecretTestOfCharacter reasoning with her about why he made her do the movie]], he pushes the door and she pulls, which should actually open the door but it remains closed.
** As was lampshaded in her review of ''Film/TheCraft'', her hair length will change drastically over the period of an episode.
* BuryYourArt:
** The review of [[Film/Dune1984 the 1984 film adaptation]] of ''Literature/{{Dune}}'' was taken down shortly after its release, as Creator/LindsayEllis felt that most of the plot holes she brought up were actually addressed within the film itself, as unclear as they were.
** Creator/LindsayEllis privated almost all of the series' videos thanks to her CreatorBacklash towards them, believing that they helped foster an overreliance on the CausticCritic reviewing style among content creators. The only videos still publicly available are the reviews for ''Film/FreddyGotFingered'' and ''Film/TheLordOfTheRings'', which were reuploaded to Ellis' main channel.
* TheCastShowoff:
** Lindsay's a trained soprano and she deeply enjoys showing this fact off. She was also studying film at USC, so that's why she sometimes goes into so much detail about the filming techniques (or lack thereof) in the movies she reviews.
** Elisa's almost as good a singer as Lindsay herself, and frequently shows this off.
* ColbertBump: Because of her short episode on ''Minnie The Moocher'', Music/CabCalloway got a lot of new fans.
* {{Corpsing}}: The Chick once did a tribute video to Team [=NChick=]'s tendency to nearly laugh while in a scene. Out of all of them, Lindsay is probably the most guilty of this, particularly in crossovers with the boys (especially with her RL boyfriend WebVideo/ToddInTheShadows). You can see this happen in her video "''Film/SleeplessInSeattle'' vs. ''Film/WhenHarryMetSally''" as well as the outtakes for her ''Film/FreddyGotFingered'' video with [[WebVideo/BrowsHeldHigh Oancitizen]].
* CreatorBacklash:
** In her livestream, Lindsay admitted that she watched "Rapping About Rape" again and could see why it got so much hate. In 2021, she revealed that it had been uploaded without her consent, and she'd made the video primarily as a coping mechanism to deal with her own sexual assault.
** In a weird way, [[http://lindsayetumbls.tumblr.com/post/37955055365/i-was-kind-of-wondering-why-you-took-down-the-tlc the TLC retrospective]]. While she doesn't seem to think it's a ''bad'' episode, it's more that she thinks sincere emotions on the show are too out of place.
** Her crossover review with WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic for ''Film/MoulinRouge''. She legitimately enjoys the film, but since Creator/DougWalker wrote the script for the review, he mapped his own opinions onto her lines, where she says she only considers it a guilty pleasure. Lindsay talked about her regret for agreeing to do the review [[https://twitter.com/thelindsayellis/status/695478000935006208 on her Twitter]]. In her video essay of ''Film/ThePhantomOfTheOpera2004'' she talked about ''Film/MoulinRouge'' positively.
** The ''{{WebVideo/Kickassia}}'' movie was this due to the TroubledProduction, calling it "the first time I felt genuinely disrespected."
** ''WebVideo/ToBoldlyFlee'' - which she has said of:
--->"I was embarrassed then to be part of them and I still am."
** In her 400k subscribers Q&A special from 2018, Lindsay has stated that she is by and large rather ashamed of all her video content made before 2015. She would also announce in the same video that she has removed her Nostalgia Chick videos from her main channel and placed them on their own channel, where the series has been retitled "[[CaptainErsatz Nostalgic Woman]]". The only video from that era that remains on Lindsay's main channel is the one for ''Film/FreddyGotFingered'', which she has said she is still proud of.
** Lindsay has this to the "Nostalgia Chick" title, mostly to do with TGWTG's ugly politics and the title's connection to that (as she was brought on to be a DistaffCounterpart for Critic). [[https://twitter.com/thelindsayellis/status/624288959179419648 There's only about seven episodes she likes]], and she much prefers doing articles under her own name or "Loose Canon".
* CreatorCouple: Lindsay and Todd wrote a lot of the scripts together, including episodes where he doesn't appear. They remain AmicableExes and lived together for a time afterwards, sharing custody of their dog Kali.
* CreatorsApathy: Lindsay admitted that a good portion of her videos were her doing "the bare minimum", and she was nearly let go by the site several times for this.
* DawsonCasting: Lindsay occasionally plays herself (or rather, [[AlterEgoActing the Chick]]) as a mopey teenager in {{flashback}}s.
* {{Defictionalization}}: Based on her idea for a Disneyfied Anne Frank, we have a page for [[JustForFun/DisneysAnneFrank it]]. She's even edited it herself.
* DevelopmentHell:
** There was talk of making a home site (like [[WebVideo/TheAngryJoeShow Angry Joe's]], a place for stuff that they couldn't put on TGWTG), resulting in Chez Apocalypse. It was functional for several months and hosted other shows as well, but after Blip and Maker shuttered their doors, development of the site returned to square one.
** The second book of [=TheViridianSaga=] seems to have dropped completely off her radar.
** The intended final episode of the Nostalgia Chick--stated by Lindsay to be a review of [[{{Series/Animorphs}} the live action Animorphs series]]--appears to have fallen by the wayside.
* DVDCommentary: She's been doing them ever since "[[Series/StarTrekTheOriginalSeries Kirk]] vs. [[Series/StarTrekTheNextGeneration Picard]]".
* ExecutiveMeddling: Claims she faced some resistance from TGWTG when she started to do essay style videos - such as the one on TheSmurfettePrinciple - who wanted her to remain the DistaffCounterpart to The Nostalgia Critic. But eventually they gave in and let her transition.
* FakeNationality: In the ''Grease 2'' review, the Makeover Fairy claims to be {{UsefulNotes/Moldova}}n, though Elisa is American.
* FanCommunityNickname: "Chicklets".
* FandomNod: After fans shipped Mara Wilson with Critic after just her enjoying his humiliation in ''Film/ASimpleWish'', ''Literature/{{Matilda}}'' ups that aspect with her acting like he was a really fun toy to play with.
* KeepCirculatingTheTapes: Despite her [[CreatorBacklash steadfast hatred of this series]], for a time, videos from it remained comprehensively documented as "Nostalgic Woman" on [[https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLdcgni1mCq1OxUE3HIL8QQ the "Vintage ChezLindsay" account]], largely because she knew they'd be reuploaded and monetized by others. However, they were completely privatized in 2020 ([[https://twitter.com/thelindsayellis/status/1294048245593681920?s=20 Lindsay's claim at the time was that it was tentative, done so they wouldn't get highly promoted in recommendation algorithms]]).
** In February 2022, she re-uploaded the videos--Unlisted--to a dedicated "Nostalgic Woman" YT account and released the links to her $2+ Patreon supporters, adding that "They're bad and you shouldn't watch them."
* MeaningfulReleaseDate: Her own co-site, [[http://chezapocalypse.com/ Chez Apocalypse]] came out on the day of the supposed apocalypse. (21/12/2012)
* MilestoneCelebration: To celebrate her three year anniversary of being on the site, she did a DVD commentary on her first episode ''WesternAnimation/{{Pocahontas}}''.
* MoneyDearBoy: After many content creators left Channel Awesome due to disillusionment with the site's management, Lindsay stated that the main reason she joined the site in the first place was because she needed the money after graduating from college in 2008 (right before the economy tanked). She also said she stayed on the site as long as she did because she was financially dependent on ad revenue despite not enjoying her time there.
* PromotedFanboy: Lindsay was initially a fan of Channel Awesome before she was hired on by the site. She also loves [[Series/MysteryScienceTheater3000 MST3K]] and got to interview Mike Nelson with Linkara.
* PropRecycling: Lindsay originally built the robot prop for a student film about a Catholic robot; it was reused for the Nostalgia Chick show.
* ScheduleSlip: She tried to put out one video a month but because of school and large amounts of traveling, can't always.
** Now that her documentary is done, she's assured people that she's back to making regular weekly videos. She seems to have kept her word this time. She's even doing (usually) more than one episode a week now.
** She went on another hiatus in 2013, due to being hired to work on a project pertaining to ''Franchise/{{Pokemon}}''. The hiatus ended in January 2014.
** She went on another hiatus in 2017 so she can complete her Master's Degree. She says whenever she has the time during, she'll try to put a video out, but her main focus for the year is finishing her degree.
* ThrowItIn: In the "Kirk vs. Picard" video, the Chick does an impersonation of Picard while Nella acted like Shatner. According to the commentary, neither of those were scripted.
* WhatCouldHaveBeen:
** In her commentary for ''X-Men'', Lindsay said she was going to follow the TGWTG trend of having more than one character and play Dr. Tease herself. The same went for Dr. Block, but because Lindsay hates acting so much, Nella took the role herself.
** WebVideo/TheNostalgiaCritic was going to review ''Film/{{Newsies}}'', but Lindsay told Doug she expressed interest in reviewing it, so he let her do it instead.
** In the ''Theatre/LesMiserables'' big group song, Ed Glazer or Doug could have played Marius instead of Paw, it could have been a chorus of Lindsays (recorded to set everyone's place, as described in the commentary), or the review might not have happened at all due to Lindsay and Elisa having a car accident on the way to Chicago. (A hurricane just made them swerve into a ditch, they were fine.)
** In an example that made [[{{Shipping}} shippers']] hearts soar, the first "Thanks For The Feedback" was going to see the Chick and Critic have sex, and then realize [[BrotherSisterIncest they were related]].
** As charmingly goofy as it was, the Dark Nella Saga was going to be much sillier and originally consisted of the eponymous quasi-demonic force of evil giving everyone [[PokeThePoodle evil noogies]].
** The Chick taping Todd to a chair in "''Film/SleeplessInSeattle'' vs. ''Film/WhenHarryMetSally''" was originally going to be a ''{{Film/Misery}}'' parody instead, but was cut for being considered far too creepy.
** Her last Nostalgia Chick review would've been on ''Animorphs''. However, she chose not to release it, as it did not match her standards.
** The other two women seriously considered for the role of Nostalgia Chick were Kaylyn Saucedo and Krissy Diggs. Given that the other two were picked up anyway and took up the characters of WebVideo/MarzGurl and That Chick With the Goggles, it's likely that Lindsay would have been picked up and started doing something akin to her later video essay content anyway.
